In this study, a novel “on-off-enhanced on” approach to highly sensitive rapid sensing of biothiols was developed, based on competitive modulation of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) and Hg2+ ions. In our approach, the AuNCs were encapsulated into a zeolite imidazole framework (ZIF) for predesigned competitive aggregation-induced luminescence (AIE) emission. To readily operate this approach, the Hg2+ ions were selected as mediators to quench the fluorescence of AuNCs. Then, due to the stronger affinities between the interactions of Hg2+ ions with -SH groups in comparison to the AuNCs with -SH groups, the quenched probe of AuNCs@ZIF-8/Hg2+ displayed enhanced fluorescence after the Hg2+ ions were competitively interacted with -SH groups. Based on enhanced fluorescence, the probe for AuNCs@ZIF-8/Hg2+ had a sensitive and specific response to trace amounts of biothiols. The developed fluorescence strategy had limit of quantification (LOQ) values of 1.0 μM and 1.5 μM for Cys and GSH molecules in serum, respectively. This competitive AIE strategy provided a new direction for developing biological probes and a promising method for quantifying trace amounts of biothiols in serum. It could promote progress in disease diagnosis.

The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is one of the most remarkable structural features of the Earth's magnetic field. The region is characterized by weak magnetic field intensity. Because of this weakening, particles within the inner radiation belt can mirror at lower altitudes, consequently increasing the local particle flux. Over centuries, the SAA has displayed notable secular variation (SV) characteristics, with a consistent decline in strength, expansion in area, and an overall westward drift. Both paleomagnetic and modern magnetic data indicate that SAA is currently undergoing rapid changes, with a rapid expansion in area and a rapid decreasing in intensity. These changes are coinciding with an increasing field asymmetry. Recent observations suggest that the evolution of SAA has become increasingly anisotropic, showing two magnetic intensity minima. This may indicate that the evolution of SAA has entered a new stage, which has aroused people's attention and discussion on the long-term evolution and future of SAA. The manifestation of the SAA on the Earth’s surface corresponds to the response of an inverse flux path at the core-mantle boundary (CMB) to the radial component of the geomagnetic field, positioned approximately beneath the South Atlantic Ocean. Consequently, studying the SV of SAA can understand the details of the Earth's internal dynamics. Moreover, these SV scenarios provide some speculative predictions for the SAA. The evolutionary details of SAA not only serve as a reference for future trends but also imposes additional constraints on Earth's core dynamic model, rendering it a compelling subject for scholarly inquiry. In this paper, we review the results of paleomagnetic and modern geomagnetic models concerning the past, present, and future evolution of the SAA, while also summarizing advancements in understanding the origin of this anomaly.

A majority of the planets in the Solar System are characterized by intrinsic magnetic fields that co-rotate with these celestial bodies. With ongoing advances in human deep-space exploration, magnetic field models have been established for all known Solar System bodies with intrinsic magnetic fields. Planetary magnetic field modeling serves as a fundamental basis for a diverse range of research objectives, including investigations of planetary internal dynamical processes, examinations of planetary evolutionary histories, determinations of the interactions between planetary magnetic fields and the solar wind, and estimations of the shielding effects of planetary magnetic fields against high-energy charged particles. Furthermore, the modeling of planetary magnetic fields represents an interdisciplinary research endeavor, encompassing aspects such as the theories of magnetic field modeling, separation of internal and external magnetic field sources, parameter inversion methods, and equation optimization. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of the progress in magnetic field modeling for the Earth, other planets in the Solar System, and also the Moon and Ganymede, one of Jupiter’s moon. We describe the characteristics of the intrinsic magnetic fields of planets and present details of the most accurate global magnetic field models for Solar System planets. Starting with mathematical modeling methods for planetary magnetic fields, we outline the development of magnetic field modeling techniques since the era of Gauss and identify the current hot topics in this field. The review concludes with a forward-looking perspective on the trends in magnetic field modeling research and the potential contributions of China’s future deep-space exploration to the study of planetary magnetic fields.

After 50 years of research on the correlation between the geomagnetic field and climate, we have gained a deeper understanding that the regulation of climate by geomagnetic field changes is far more complex than previously imagined. In this paper, we comprehensively review the research connecting the geomagnetic field and climate over the past 50 years, examining different spatial and temporal scales. Our results demonstrate a significant correlation between geomagnetic field changes and climate at various scales, including millennial-scale geomagnetic reversals, thousand-year-scale geomagnetic shifts, centennial-scale geomagnetic abrupt, and even decadal-scale variations in geomagnetic activity. The Matuyama–Brunhes geomagnetic reversal is associated with the cold climate. The increase in galactic cosmic rays (GCR) during this period gave rise to the formation of low-altitude cloud "umbrella effects", subsequently weakening the East Asian summer monsoon and intensifying the East Asian winter monsoon. Archaeomagnetic data from Mesopotamia remarkably illustrates a consistent correlation between four cold periods in the last three thousand years and a sudden increase in geomagnetic anomalies. Exploring the possibility that these geomagnetic anomalies correspond to extreme tilts of the Earth's dipole, it is hypothesized that auroral ovals and sub-auroral regions may have expanded to lower latitudes. In these regions, cosmic rays potentially interacted with a more humid troposphere, resulting in increased cloud cover and, consequently, observed atmospheric cooling. Changes in GCR flux, induced by solar activity and variations in the geomagnetic field, are proposed to have significant implications for alterations in temperate pressure systems, precipitation patterns, and atmospheric electric fields. These effects play diverse roles within the intricately coupled system of the Earth's atmosphere and the near-Earth space environment. However, it's important to note that correlation does not imply causation, and the potential mechanisms by which the geomagnetic field influences climate change are still a subject of debate. The cosmic ray-cloud mechanism is the most promising avenue for understanding how the geomagnetic field regulates climate, operating effectively across different time scales, but its exact physical mechanisms and relative importance remain unresolved issues. We propose that understanding the correlation between the geomagnetic field and climate from the perspective of solar-terrestrial multisphere coupling is crucial, with a specific focus on the response of regional climate systems to changes in regional magnetic fields. By integrating knowledge from ancient times to the present, from regional to global perspectives, we aim to form a comprehensive understanding of the correlation between the geomagnetic field and climate change. The recent successful launch of Aoke-1, which can delicately characterize magnetic field changes in the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA), the first discovery of the centennial-scale western Pacific anomaly (WPA), and the rapid development of paleomagnetic/archaeomagnetic and paleoclimate data reconstruction have provided new historical opportunities for research on the geomagnetic field and climate. This progress indicates that the study of the impact of geomagnetic field changes on climate will be propelled to new heights.

The internal structure and dynamics of different planets are different, so some planets have an intrinsic magnetic field, and some have not yet found an intrinsic magnetic field. A planet's intrinsic magnetic field or atmosphere interacts with the solar wind forming a magnetosphere or induced magnetosphere, respectively. Different magnetic fields, atmospheres and moons in planetary systems will form different space environments around the planets, which will have different effects on the evolution of the planets. The detection of planetary magnetic field is of great significance for understanding the internal structure and dynamics, space environment and evolution process of planets, so the planetary magnetic field is often one of the main physical quantities concerned by planetary exploration. In the detection of Jupiter's magnetic field, it was found that Jupiter has the largest magnetic moment and magnetosphere among the planetary systems in the solar system, and the magnetic field of Jupiter shows obvious hemispherical difference, magnetic anomaly areas (the Great Blue Spot) and other non-dipole features. Besides, the internal structure of Jupiter is significantly different from the Earth, which makes the structure and dynamics of Jupiter's dynamo difficult to confirm. This paper reviews the research history of Jupiter's magnetic field, introduces the current cognition of Jupiter's magnetic field mainly based on the research in the Juno era, and prospects the future research and exploration of Jupiter's magnetic field. It is suggested that the probe into Jupiter's atmosphere should be carried in the future Jupiter exploration, and the magnetic field detection instrument should be loaded on the probe. This enabled the first in-situ detection of Jupiter's magnetic field in the atmosphere.

Abstract Although deep convolution neural network (DCNN) has achieved great success in computer vision field, such models are considered to lack interpretability in decision‐making. One of fundamental issues is that its decision mechanism is considered to be a “black‐box” operation. The authors design the binary tree structure convolution (BTSC) module and control the activation level of particular neurons to build the interpretable DCNN model. First, the authors design a BTSC module, in which each parent node generates two independent child layers, and then integrate them into a normal DCNN model. The main advantages of the BTSC are as follows: 1) child nodes of the different parent nodes do not interfere with each other; 2) parent and child nodes can inherit knowledge. Second, considering the activation level of neurons, the authors design an information coding objective to guide neural nodes to learn the particular information coding that is expected. Through the experiments, the authors can verify that: 1) the decision‐making made by both the ResNet and DenseNet models can be explained well based on the "decision information flow path" (known as the decision‐path) formed in the BTSC module; 2) the decision‐path can reasonably interpret the decision reversal mechanism (Robustness mechanism) of the DCNN model; 3) the credibility of decision‐making can be measured by the matching degree between the actual and expected decision‐path.

Abstract Diet and inflammation are crucial in the incidence and progression of coronary heart disease (CHD). This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the Dietary inflammatory index (DII) and all-cause mortality in CHD patients. A total of 1,303 CHD patients from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2003 and 2018 were included. Multivariate Cox regression was used to explore the correlation between the DII and the risk of all-cause mortality in these patients. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was also utilized to examine the relationship between the DII and all-cause mortality risk in CHD patients. Additionally, subgroup analyses were conducted to determine how the correlation between the DII and all-cause mortality varied across different demographics. During a median follow-up period of 77 months among 1,303 CHD patients, 536 died from all causes. The DII scores were significantly higher in deceased patients compared to survivors. After adjusting for confounding factors, the multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated a strong positive correlation between the DII and all-cause mortality in CHD patients. RCS analysis suggested a non-linear relationship between the DII and all-cause mortality among CHD patients. Additionally, an increase in DII was more pronounced in its impact on female patients. The DII is strongly correlated with the risk of all-cause mortality among CHD patients, particularly among females. Thus, managing dietary inflammation is vital for the prevention and treatment of CHD, especially in female patients.

Gastric cancer (GC) ranks fifth in cancer incidence and fourth in cancer-related mortality worldwide. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are highly oxidative oxygen-derived products that have crucial roles in cell signaling regulation and maintaining internal balance. ROS are closely associated with the occurrence, development, and treatment of GC. This review summarizes recent findings on the sources of ROS and the bidirectional regulatory effects on GC and discusses various treatment modalities for GC that are related to ROS induction. In addition, the regulation of ROS by natural small molecule compounds with the highest potential for development and applications in anti-GC research is summarized. The aim of the review is to accelerate the clinical application of modulating ROS levels as a therapeutic strategy for GC.

Abstract Insulin resistance causes multiple epidemic metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and fatty liver, but is not routinely measured in epidemiological studies. To discover novel insulin resistance genes in the general population, we conducted genome-wide association studies in 382,129 individuals for triglyceride to HDL-cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL), a surrogate marker of insulin resistance calculable from commonly measured serum lipid profiles. We identified 251 independent loci, of which 62 were more strongly associated with TG/HDL compared to TG or HDL alone, suggesting them as insulin resistance loci. Candidate causal genes at these loci were prioritized by fine mapping with directions-of-effect and tissue specificity annotated through analysis of protein coding and expression quantitative trait variation. Directions-of-effect were corroborated in an independent cohort of individuals with directly measured insulin resistance. We highlight two phospholipase encoding genes, PLA2G12A and PLA2G6, which liberate arachidonic acid and improve insulin sensitivity, and VGLL3, a transcriptional co-factor that increases insulin resistance partially through enhanced adiposity. Finally, we implicate the anti-apoptotic gene TNFAIP8 as a sex-dimorphic insulin resistance factor, which acts by increasing visceral adiposity, specifically in females. In summary, our study identifies several candidate modulators of insulin resistance that have the potential to serve as biomarkers and pharmacological targets.

Abstract The integration of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in life-course epidemiology offers remarkable opportunities to advance our understanding of the complex interplay between biological, social, and environmental factors that shape health trajectories across the lifespan. This perspective summarizes the current applications, discusses future potential and challenges, and provides recommendations for harnessing ML and AI technologies to develop innovative public health solutions. ML and AI have been increasingly applied in epidemiological studies, demonstrating their ability to handle large, complex datasets, identify intricate patterns and associations, integrate multiple and multimodal data types, improve predictive accuracy, and enhance causal inference methods. In life-course epidemiology, these techniques can help identify sensitive periods and critical windows for intervention, model complex interactions between risk factors, predict individual and population-level disease risk trajectories, and strengthen causal inference in observational studies. By leveraging the five principles of life-course research proposed by Elder and Shanahan—lifespan development, agency, time and place, timing, and linked lives—we discuss a framework for applying ML and AI to uncover novel insights and inform targeted interventions. However, the successful integration of these technologies faces challenges related to data quality, model interpretability, bias, privacy, and equity. To fully realize the potential of ML and AI in life-course epidemiology, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, developing standardized guidelines, advocating for their integration in public health decision-making, prioritizing fairness, and investing in training and capacity building are essential. By responsibly harnessing the power of ML and AI, we can take significant steps towards creating healthier and more equitable futures across the life course.

Background: Increasing attention to liver-bone crosstalk has spurred interest in targeted interventions for various forms of osteoporosis. Liver injury induced by different liver diseases can cause an imbalance in bone metabolism, indicating a novel regulatory paradigm between the liver and bone. However, the role of the liver-bone axis in both primary and secondary osteoporosis remains inadequately elucidated. Therefore, exploring the exact regulatory mechanisms of the liver-bone axis may offer innovative clinical approaches for treating diseases associated with the liver and bone. Methods: Here, we summarize the latest research on the liver-bone axis by searching the PubMed and Web of Science databases and discuss the possible mechanism of the liver-bone axis in different types of osteoporosis. The literature directly reporting the regulatory role of the liver-bone axis in different types of osteoporosis from the PubMed and Web of Science databases has been included in the discussion of this review (including but not limited to the definition of the liver-bone axis, clinical studies, and basic research). In addition, articles discussing changes in bone metabolism caused by different etiologies of liver injury have also been included in the discussion of this review (including but not limited to clinical studies and basic research). Results: Several endocrine factors (IGF-1, FGF21, hepcidin, vitamin D, osteocalcin, OPN, LCAT, Fetuin-A, PGs, BMP2/9, IL-1/6/17, and TNF-α) and key genes (SIRT2, ABCB4, ALDH2, TFR2, SPTBN1, ZNF687 and SREBP2) might be involved in the regulation of the liver-bone axis. In addition to the classic metabolic pathways involved in inflammation and oxidative stress, iron metabolism, cholesterol metabolism, lipid metabolism and immunometabolism mediated by the liver-bone axis require more research to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms involved in osteoporosis. Conclusion: During primary and secondary osteoporosis, the liver-bone axis is responsible for liver and bone homeostasis via several hepatokines and osteokines as well as biochemical signaling. Combining multiomics technology and data mining technology could further advance our understanding of the liver-bone axis, providing new clinical strategies for managing liver and bone-related diseases.The translational potential of this article is as follows: Abnormal metabolism in the liver could seriously affect the metabolic imbalance of bone. This review summarizes the indispensable role of several endocrine factors and biochemical signaling pathways involved in the liver-bone axis and emphasizes the important role of liver metabolic homeostasis in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis, which provides novel potential directions for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of liver and bone-related diseases.

Abstract Background Cis-regulatory elements (CREs) are crucial for regulating gene expression, and G-quadruplexes (G4s), as prototypal non-canonical DNA structures, may play a role in this regulation. However, the relationship between G4s and CREs, especially with non-promoter-like functional elements, requires further systematic investigation. We aimed to investigate the associations between G4s and human cCREs (candidate CREs) inferred from the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) data. Results We found that G4s are prominently enriched in most types of cCREs, especially those with promoter-like signatures (PLS). The co-occurrence of CTCF signals with H3K4me3 or H3K27ac signals strengthens the association between cCREs and G4s. Genetic variants in G4s, particularly within their G-runs, exhibit higher regulatory potential and deleterious effects compared to cCREs. The G-runs within G4s near transcriptional start sites (TSSs) are more evolutionarily constrained compared to G-runs in cCREs, while those far from the TSS are relatively less conserved. The presence of G4s is often linked to a more favorable local chromatin environment for the activation and execution of regulatory function of cCREs, potentially attributable to the formation of G4 secondary structures. Finally, we discovered that G4-associated cCREs exhibit widespread activation in a variety of cancers. Conclusions Our study suggests that G4s are integral components of human cis-regulatory elements, extending beyond their potential role in promoters. The G4 primary sequences are associated with the localization of CREs, while the G4 structures are linked to the activation of these elements. Therefore, we propose defining G4s as pivotal regulatory elements in the human genome.

Abstract Accurately assigning standardized diagnosis and procedure codes from clinical text is crucial for healthcare applications. However, this remains challenging due to the complexity of medical language. This paper proposes a novel model that incorporates extreme multi-label classification tasks to enhance International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding. The model utilizes deformable convolutional neural networks to fuse representations from hidden layer outputs of pre-trained language models and external medical knowledge embeddings fused using a multimodal approach to provide rich semantic encodings for each code. A probabilistic label tree is constructed based on the hierarchical structure existing in ICD labels to incorporate ontological relationships between ICD codes and enable structured output prediction. Experiments on medical code prediction on the MIMIC-III database demonstrate competitive performance, highlighting the benefits of this technique for robust clinical code assignment.

Premade meat and poultry dishes refer to the finished or semi-finished products that use meat and poultry materials as the main ingredients, which undergo pretreatments and stored, transported and sold under room temperature or cold chain conditions. Flavor is an important factor that determines consumers' willing for premade dish purchase. However, due to raw material characteristics, microbial metabolism, nutrients oxidation or degradation, inappropriate reheating, the premade meat and poultry dishes might generate some unpleasant off-flavors. The off-flavors might have strong negative impact on the sensory quality of premade dishes, which restricts the further development of the whole industry. The commonly seen off-flavor substances in premade meat and poultry dishes include hexanal with sour note, nonanal, octanal, decanal and (E,E)-2,4-decadienal with waxy and oily note, (E)-2-decenal with greasy fatty note, 3-methylbutyraldehyde and 2-methylbutyraldehyde with musty note, butyric acid with a strong cheesy note, 3-methylbutyric acid with sweaty note, dimethyl trisulfide, dimethyl sulphide with sulphurous note, and 1-octen-3-ol with earthy note etc. This paper reviews the main sources of premade meat and poultry dishes off-flavors, summarizes the off-flavors inhibiting and masking techniques applied in premade dish preparation. This study would provide practical guidance and reference for the innovation and development of the flavor quality control in premade dish industry.

This study aimed to examine the impact of different low-sodium formulations on the quality and oxidative properties of yak meat products. Yak foreleg meat was utilized as the primary raw material, and various proportions of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium pyrophosphate were incorporated to partially replace sodium chloride (NaCl) during the marination process. The objective was to assess the effects of these low-sodium composite salts on yield, edible quality, lipid oxidation, and protein oxidation of yak meat in sauce, while also determining the optimal ratio of composite substitutes for sodium salts. Abstract Terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy (TES) has emerged as a highly effective and versatile technique for investigating the photoelectric properties of diverse materials and nonlinear physical processes in the past few decades. Concurrently, research on two-dimensional (2D) materials has experienced substantial growth due to their atomically thin structures, exceptional mechanical and optoelectronic properties, and the potential for applications in flexible electronics, sensing, and nanoelectronics. Specifically, these materials offer advantages such as tunable bandgap, high carrier mobility, wideband optical absorption, and relatively short carrier lifetime. By applying TES to investigate the 2D materials, their interfaces and heterostructures, rich information about the interplay among photons, charges, phonons and spins can be unfolded, which provides fundamental understanding for future applications. Thus it is timely to review the nonlinear processes underlying THz emission in 2D materials including optical rectification, photon-drag, high-order harmonic generation and spin-to-charge conversion, showcasing the rich diversity of the TES employed to unravel the complex nature of these materials. Typical applications based on THz emissions, such as THz lasers, ultrafast imaging and biosensors, are also discussed. Step further, we analyzed the unique advantages of spintronic terahertz emitters and the future technological advancements in the development of new THz generation mechanisms leading to advanced THz sources characterized by wide bandwidth, high power and integration, suitable for industrial and commercial applications. The continuous advancement and integration of TES with the study of 2D materials and heterostructures promise to revolutionize research in different areas, including basic materials physics, novel optoelectronic devices, and chips for post-Moore’s era.

In order to study the interaction and antioxidant effects of the combination of natural extract and complex phosphate on the quality characteristics of yak mince during cold storage. In this study, rosemary, grape seed extract and complex phosphate were mixed at the ratio of 0.015%, 0.02% and 0.10%, and the edible quality, rheological properties, lipid oxidation and protein oxidation of yak meat were measured after the meat was refrigerated at 4 ℃ for 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 h. Abstract Previous studies showed that Australian wheat cultivars Janz and Sunco carry leaf rust and stem rust resistance genes Lr24 and Sr24 derived from Thinopyrum ponticum chromosome arm 3AgL. However, the size of the alien segments carrying Lr24 and Sr24 in the lines were not determined. In this study, we used non-denaturing fluorescence in situ hybridization (ND-FISH), genomic in situ hybridization (GISH), and PCR-based landmark unique gene (PLUG) markers to visualize the alien segments in Janz and Sunco, and further compared them with the segments in US cultivars Agent and Amigo. The fraction length (FL) of the alien translocation in Agent was 0.70–1.00, whereas those in Janz, Sunco, and Amigo were smaller, at FL 0.85–1.00. It was deduced that the alien gene R Ag encoding for red grain color and rust resistance genes Lr24 and Sr24 on chromosome arm 3AgL were in bins of FL 0.70–0.85 and 0.85–1.00, respectively. We retrieved and extracted nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) receptor genes corresponding to the region of Lr24 and Sr24 on chromosomes 3E, and 3J, 3Js and 3St from the reference genome sequences of Th. elongatum and Th. intermedium, respectively. A set of molecular markers developed for Lr24 and Sr24 from those extracted NBS-LRR genes will provide valuable information for fine mapping and cloning of these genes.

Abstract Wheat is one of the major food crops worldwide. Stripe rust can cause a great loss of wheat yield, especially when the disease is prevalent. Chemical control not only causes the loss of resistance to stripe rust but also has a serious impact on the human body and environment. Therefore, the most economical measure to control wheat stripe rust is to cultivate resistant varieties. Rapid variation of stripe rust races often leads to rapid "loss" of resistance to stripe rust disease; therefore, breeders and researchers have to continuously explore new stripe rust resistance genes to provide new resistance sources for the rapid variation of stripe rust races. Previous studies have confirmed that PI660076, a spring wheat line, showed stripe rust resistance under natural conditions at the adult stage, which has great value in breeding programs. In this study, a recombinant inbred lines (RIL) population was constructed by crossing the wheat line PI660076 with the stripe rust-susceptible line AvS. Genotyping of the population was performed using a wheat 15 K SNP array. Three QTLs were identified using phenotypic data over four years across three environments. The resistance type of each QTL was determined by inoculating the RIL lines with single and homozygous QTL during the seedling and adult stages under controlled conditions. The all-stage resistance (ASR) QTL, QYr076.jaas-2A (flanked by SNP marker AX-11048464 and Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR (KASP) marker KASP_4940) explained 7.13–16.58% and 6.95–7.25% of infection type (IT) and disease severity (DS), respectively. The adult-plant resistance (APR) resistance QTL, QYr076.jaas-4D.1 (flanked by KASP marker KASP_0795 and SNP marker AX-111567243,) explained 6.85–12.70% and 7.94–17.26% of IT and DS, respectively. The APR resistance QTL, QYr076.jaas-4D.2 flanked by KASP markers KASP_9130 and KASP_6535, explained 7.97–39.19% and 8.77–20.55% of the phenotypic variation in IT and DS, respectively. All the three QTLs are likely to be new. The obtained results lay a foundation for further utilization of the stripe rust-resistant line PI660076, as well as for fine mapping and molecular marker-assisted selection breeding. Abstract Acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a severe cardiovascular disease that poses a significant threat to the life and health of patients. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of triglyceride glucose index (TyG) combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for in-hospital cardiac adverse event (MACE) after PCI in STEMI patients. From October 2019 to June 2023, 398 STEMI patients underwent emergency PCI in the Second People's Hospital of Hefei. Stepwise regression backward method and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to screen the independent risk factors of MACE in STEMI patients. To construct the prediction model of in-hospital MACE after PCI in STEMI patients: Grace score model is the old model (model A); TyG combined with NLR model (model B); Grace score combined with TyG and NLR model is the new model (model C). We assessed the clinical usefulness of the predictive model by comparing Integrated Discrimination Improvement (IDI), Net Reclassification Index (NRI), Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC), and Decision Curve Analysis (DCA). Stepwise regression and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that TyG and NLR were independent risk factors for in-hospital MACE after PCI in STEMI patients. The constructed Model C was compared to Model A. Results showed NRI 0.5973; NRI + 0.3036, NRI − 0.2937, IDI 0.3583. These results show that the newly developed model C predicts the results better than model A, indicating that the model is more accurate. The ROC analysis results showed that the AUC of Model A for predicting MACE in STEMI was 0.749. Model B predicted MACE in STEMI with an AUC of 0.685. Model C predicted MACE in STEMI with an AUC of 0.839. For DCA, Model C has a better net return between threshold probability 0.1 and 0.78, which is better than Model A and Model B. In this study, by combining TyG, NLR, and Grace score, it was shown that TyG combined with NLR could reasonably predict the occurrence of MACE after PCI in STEMI patients and the clinical utility of the prediction model.

The rhizome of Corydalis decumbens is a traditional Chinese medicine commonly utilized in the clinical treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Numerous phytochemical and biological investigations have demonstrated that protoberberine alkaloids from C. decumbens exhibit diverse pharmaceutical activities against various diseases. Sinometumine E (SE), a protoberberine alkaloid isolated from C. decumbens for the first time, is characterized by a complex 6/6/6/6/6/6 hexacyclic skeleton. In the current study, we investigated the protective effects of SE on endothelial cell injury and its angiogenesis effects in zebrafish. The results suggested that SE showed significant anti-ischemic effects on OGD/R-induced HBEC-5i and HUVECs cell ischemia/reperfusion injury model. Furthermore, it promoted angiogenesis in PTK787-induced, MPTP-induced, and atorvastatin-induced vessel injury models of zebrafish, while also suppressing hypoxia-induced locomotor impairment in zebrafish. Transcriptome sequencing analysis provided a sign that SE likely to promotes angiogenesis through the HIF-1/VEGF signaling pathway to exert anti-ischemic effects. Consistently, SE modulated several genes related to HIF-1/VEGF signal pathway, such as hif-1, vegf, vegfr-2, pi3k, erk, akt and plcγ. Molecular docking analysis revealed that VEGFR-2 exhibited high binding affinity with SE, and western blot analysis confirmed that SE treatment enhanced the expression of VEGFR-2. In conclusion, our study profiled the angiogenic activities of SE in vitro and in vivo. The key targets and related pathways involved in anti-ischemic effects of SE, shedding light on the pharmacodynamic components and mechanisms of Corydalis decumbens, and provides valuable insights for identifying effective substances for the treatment of ischemic stroke.

A contribution to the knowledge of the malachiine genus Intybia Pascoe, 1866 from China is given. Two new species groups: Intybia klapperichi group and Intybia eversi group are defined and described. A new species, Intybia hainanensis Wang & Liu, sp. nov., of the Intybia klapperichi group is described from Hainan Province. Intybia erectodentatus (Wittmer, 1982) and Intybia concha Asano, 2015 are redescribed based on new materials collected in mainland China. A key to species groups of the genus Intybia Pascoe, 1866 in China is provided.

A new genus of malachiine Melyridae, Platyintybia gen. nov., is described based on several male-specific characters, along with description of its type species, Platyintybia zhongshanensis sp. nov., from China. A new combination, Platyintybia sarawakensis (Champion, 1921), comb. nov., is proposed after examining the type specimen; this species is newly recorded from China. A key to the genera of Chinese Apalochrini is provided for the first time.

Arginine (Arg), a safe basic amino acid, modulates interprotein interactions and impacts the processing characteristics of myofibrillar proteins (MP) in meat products, as numerous studies have demonstrated. This study aimed to explore the effects of varying concentrations of Arg (0.025, 0.050, 0.100, 0.200 %) on the physicochemical properties and gel behavior of yak MP. Utilizing yak MP as the substrate, we assessed and analyzed the physicochemical attributes and gel performance of the MP-Arg composite system. The findings revealed that Arg facilitates MP unfolding and internal group exposure, effectively mitigating oxidative tertiary structure alterations. Arg exerts potent antioxidant activity on MP, augmenting their water-holding capacity, which ameliorates gel properties. In this experiment, 0.05 % Arg maximally inhibited oxidative damage to MP, with protection being concentration-dependent. Collectively, these findings suggest that Arg effectively inhibits the oxidative degradation of MP structure and promotes the formation of enhanced gel characteristics.
