Recent open-vocabulary detectors achieve promising performance with abundant region-level annotated data. In this work, we show that an open-vocabulary detector co-training with a large language model by generating image-level detailed captions for each image can further improve performance. To achieve the goal, we first collect a dataset, GroundingCap-1M, wherein each image is accompanied by associated grounding labels and an image-level detailed caption. With this dataset, we finetune an open-vocabulary detector with training objectives including a standard grounding loss and a caption generation loss. We take advantage of a large language model to generate both region-level short captions for each region of interest and image-level long captions for the whole image. Under the supervision of the large language model, the resulting detector, LLMDet, outperforms the baseline by a clear margin, enjoying superior open-vocabulary ability. Further, we show that the improved LLMDet can in turn build a stronger large multi-modal model, achieving mutual benefits. Atmospheric muons are important probes for studying primary cosmic rays and extensive air showers. Additionally, they constitute a significant background for many underground and deep-sea neutrino experiments, such as TRopIcal DEep-sea Neutrino Telescope (TRIDENT). Understanding the muon flux at various depths in the deep sea is essential for validating TRIDENT simulations and guiding the development of optimized trigger strategies. This paper introduces a novel device based on plastic scintillalors and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) named MuonSLab, which is designed to measure muon flux in the deep sea and has the potential to be extended to other atmospheric muon property measurements. We discuss the design and instrumentation of MuonSLab and present results from several muon flux measurements, demonstrating its sensitivity to muon detection and its stability during operations across multiple locations.

Over-the-air computation (AirComp) integrates analog communication with task-oriented computation, serving as a key enabling technique for communication-efficient federated learning (FL) over wireless networks. However, owing to its analog characteristics, AirComp-enabled FL (AirFL) is vulnerable to both unintentional and intentional interference. In this paper, we aim to attain robustness in AirComp aggregation against interference via reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technology to artificially reconstruct wireless environments. Concretely, we establish performance objectives tailored for interference suppression in wireless FL systems, aiming to achieve unbiased gradient estimation and reduce its mean square error (MSE). Oriented at these objectives, we introduce the concept of phase-manipulated favorable propagation and channel hardening for AirFL, which relies on the adjustment of RIS phase shifts to realize statistical interference elimination and reduce the error variance of gradient estimation. Building upon this concept, we propose two robust aggregation schemes of power control and RIS phase shifts design, both ensuring unbiased gradient estimation in the presence of interference. Theoretical analysis of the MSE and FL convergence affirms the anti-interference capability of the proposed schemes. It is observed that computation and interference errors diminish by an order of $\mathcal{O}\left(\frac{1}{N}\right)$ where $N$ is the number of RIS elements, and the ideal convergence rate without interference can be asymptotically achieved by increasing $N$. In this paper, we investigate the singularities of potential energy functionals \(\phi(\cdot)\) associated with semiconcave functions \(\phi\) in the Borel probability measure space and their propagation properties. Our study covers two cases: when \(\phi\) is a semiconcave function and when \(u\) is a weak KAM solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation \(H(x, Du(x)) = c[0]\) on a smooth closed manifold. By applying previous work on Hamilton-Jacobi equations in the Wasserstein space, we prove that the singularities of \(u(\cdot)\) will propagate globally when \(u\) is a weak KAM solution, and the dynamical cost function \(C^t\) is the associated fundamental solution. We also demonstrate the existence of solutions evolving along the cut locus, governed by an irregular Lagrangian semiflow on the cut locus of \(u\).

In this paper, we consider a probabilistic set covering problem (PSCP) in which each 0-1 row of the constraint matrix is random with a finite discrete distribution, and the objective is to minimize the total cost of the selected columns such that each row is covered with a prespecified probability. We develop an effective decomposition algorithm for the PSCP based on the Benders reformulation of a standard mixed integer programming (MIP) formulation. The proposed Benders decomposition (BD) algorithm enjoys two key advantages: (i) the number of variables in the underlying Benders reformulation is equal to the number of columns but independent of the number of scenarios of the random data; and (ii) the Benders feasibility cuts can be separated by an efficient polynomial-time algorithm, which makes it particularly suitable for solving large-scale PSCPs. We enhance the BD algorithm by using initial cuts to strengthen the relaxed master problem, implementing an effective heuristic procedure to find high-quality feasible solutions, and adding mixed integer rounding enhanced Benders feasibility cuts to tighten the problem formulation. Numerical results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed BD algorithm over a state-of-the-art MIP solver. Recent advances in radar automatic target recognition (RATR) techniques utilizing deep neural networks have demonstrated remarkable performance, largely due to their robust generalization capabilities. To address the challenge for applications with polarimetric HRRP sequences, a dual-polarization feature fusion network (DPFFN) is proposed along with a novel two-stage feature fusion strategy. Moreover, a specific fusion loss function is developed, which enables the adaptive generation of comprehensive multi-modal representations from polarimetric HRRP sequences. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed network significantly improves performance in radar target recognition tasks, thus validating its effectiveness. Image restoration aims to recover content from inputs degraded by various factors, such as adverse weather, blur, and noise. Perceptual Image Restoration (PIR) methods improve visual quality but often do not support downstream tasks effectively. On the other hand, Task-oriented Image Restoration (TIR) methods focus on enhancing image utility for high-level vision tasks, sometimes compromising visual quality. This paper introduces UniRestore, a unified image restoration model that bridges the gap between PIR and TIR by using a diffusion prior. The diffusion prior is designed to generate images that align with human visual quality preferences, but these images are often unsuitable for TIR scenarios. To solve this limitation, UniRestore utilizes encoder features from an autoencoder to adapt the diffusion prior to specific tasks. We propose a Complementary Feature Restoration Module (CFRM) to reconstruct degraded encoder features and a Task Feature Adapter (TFA) module to facilitate adaptive feature fusion in the decoder. This design allows UniRestore to optimize images for both human perception and downstream task requirements, addressing discrepancies between visual quality and functional needs. Integrating these modules also enhances UniRestore's adapability and efficiency across diverse tasks. We introduce our first-generation reasoning models, DeepSeek-R1-Zero and DeepSeek-R1. DeepSeek-R1-Zero, a model trained via large-scale reinforcement learning (RL) without supervised fine-tuning (SFT) as a preliminary step, demonstrates remarkable reasoning capabilities. Through RL, DeepSeek-R1-Zero naturally emerges with numerous powerful and intriguing reasoning behaviors. However, it encounters challenges such as poor readability, and language mixing. To address these issues and further enhance reasoning performance, we introduce DeepSeek-R1, which incorporates multi-stage training and cold-start data before RL. DeepSeek-R1 achieves performance comparable to OpenAI-o1-1217 on reasoning tasks. To support the research community, we open-source DeepSeek-R1-Zero, DeepSeek-R1, and six dense models (1.5B, 7B, 8B, 14B, 32B, 70B) distilled from DeepSeek-R1 based on Qwen and Llama.

Language model pretraining with next token prediction has proved effective for scaling compute but is limited to the amount of available training data. Scaling reinforcement learning (RL) unlocks a new axis for the continued improvement of artificial intelligence, with the promise that large language models (LLMs) can scale their training data by learning to explore with rewards. However, prior published work has not produced competitive results. In light of this, we report on the training practice of Kimi k1.5, our latest multi-modal LLM trained with RL, including its RL training techniques, multi-modal data recipes, and infrastructure optimization. Long context scaling and improved policy optimization methods are key ingredients of our approach, which establishes a simplistic, effective RL framework without relying on more complex techniques such as Monte Carlo tree search, value functions, and process reward models. Notably, our system achieves state-of-the-art reasoning performance across multiple benchmarks and modalities -- e.g., 77.5 on AIME, 96.2 on MATH 500, 94-th percentile on Codeforces, 74.9 on MathVista -- matching OpenAI's o1. Moreover, we present effective long2short methods that use long-CoT techniques to improve short-CoT models, yielding state-of-the-art short-CoT reasoning results -- e.g., 60.8 on AIME, 94.6 on MATH500, 47.3 on LiveCodeBench -- outperforming existing short-CoT models such as GPT-4o and Claude Sonnet 3.5 by a large margin (up to +550%)., Comment: 25 pages

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is a two-dimensional periodic structure integrated with a large number of reflective elements, which can manipulate electromagnetic waves in a digital way, offering great potentials for wireless communication and radar detection applications. However, conventional RIS designs highly rely on extensive full-wave EM simulations that are extremely time-consuming. To address this challenge, we propose a machine-learning-assisted approach for efficient RIS design. An accurate and fast model to predict the reflection coefficient of RIS element is developed by combining a multi-layer perceptron neural network (MLP) and a dual-port network, which can significantly reduce tedious EM simulations in the network training. A RIS has been practically designed based on the proposed method. To verify the proposed method, the RIS has also been fabricated and measured. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results, which validates the efficacy of the proposed method in RIS design.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the large deviations for a class of slow-fast mean-field diffusions, which extends some existing results to the case where the laws of fast process are also involved in the slow component. Due to the perturbations of fast process and its time marginal law, one cannot prove the large deviations based on verifying the powerful weak convergence criterion directly. To overcome this problem, we employ the functional occupation measure, which combined with the notion of the viable pair and the controls of feedback form to characterize the limits of controlled sequences and justify the upper and lower bounds of Laplace principle. The application of large language models (LLMs) has achieved remarkable success in various fields, but their effectiveness in specialized domains like the Chinese insurance industry remains underexplored. The complexity of insurance knowledge, encompassing specialized terminology and diverse data types, poses significant challenges for both models and users. To address this, we introduce InsQABench, a benchmark dataset for the Chinese insurance sector, structured into three categories: Insurance Commonsense Knowledge, Insurance Structured Database, and Insurance Unstructured Documents, reflecting real-world insurance question-answering tasks.We also propose two methods, SQL-ReAct and RAG-ReAct, to tackle challenges in structured and unstructured data tasks. Evaluations show that while LLMs struggle with domain-specific terminology and nuanced clause texts, fine-tuning on InsQABench significantly improves performance. Large language models (LLMs) demonstrate remarkable capabilities but face deployment challenges due to their massive parameter counts. While existing compression techniques like pruning can reduce model size, it leads to significant accuracy degradation under high compression ratios. We present a novel perspective inspired by constant folding in compiler optimization. Our approach enables parameter reduction by treating activation functions in LLMs as linear functions. However, recent LLMs use complex non-linear activations like GELU that prevent direct application of this technique. We propose TARDIS, which enables optimization of LLMs with non-linear activations by partially approximating them with linear functions in frequently occurring input ranges. For outlier inputs, TARDIS employs an online predictor to dynamically fall back to original computations. Our experiments demonstrate that TARDIS achieves 80% parameter reduction in feed-forward networks, while significantly outperforming state-of-the-art pruning methods Wanda and RIA with up to 65% higher accuracy. In practical deployments for a 7B model, TARDIS achieves 1.6x end-to-end inference speedup when integrated with the vLLM serving system, and 1.4x speedup with the widely adopted HuggingFace implementation, while incurring only a 10.9% accuracy trade-off.

The neutron-neutron ($nn$) correlation function has been measured in 25 MeV/u $^{124}$Sn+$^{124}$Sn reactions. Using the Lednick\'y-Lyuboshitz approach, the $nn$ scattering length and effective range ($f_{0}^{nn}$, $d_{0}^{nn}$), as well as the reduced space-time size $R^{(0)}$ of the neutron emission source are simultaneously extracted as ($18.9^{+1.3}_{-1.2}$ fm, $1.9^{+1.3}_{-1.0}$ fm) and $4.12 \pm 0.12$ fm, respectively. The measured $nn$ scattering length is consistent with the results obtained in the low-energy scattering $^{2}{\rm H}(\pi^{-},\gamma)2n$, indicating heavy-ion collisions can serve as an effective approach for measuring $nn$ interactions and further investigating the charge symmetry breaking of nuclear force. The space-time size extracted from momentum-gated correlation functions exhibits clear dependence on the pair momentum, with $R^{(0)}=2.8 \pm 0.1 $ fm and $4.9 \pm 0.2$ fm being determined for the high and low momentum neutrons, respectively.

In this paper, we are interested in finding the global minimizer of a nonsmooth nonconvex unconstrained optimization problem. By combining the discrete consensus-based optimization (CBO) algorithm and the gradient descent method, we develop a novel CBO algorithm with an extra gradient descent scheme evaluated by the forward-difference technique on the function values, where only the objective function values are used in the proposed algorithm. First, we prove that the proposed algorithm can exhibit global consensus in an exponential rate in two senses and possess a unique global consensus point. Second, we evaluate the error estimate between the objective function value on the global consensus point and its global minimum. In particular, as the parameter $\beta$ tends to $\infty$, the error converges to zero and the convergence rate is $\mathcal{O}\left(\frac{\log\beta}{\beta}\right)$. Third, under some suitable assumptions on the objective function, we provide the number of iterations required for the mean square error in expectation to reach the desired accuracy. It is worth underlining that the theoretical analysis in this paper does not use the mean-field limit. Finally, we illustrate the improved efficiency and promising performance of our novel CBO method through some experiments on several nonconvex benchmark problems and the application to train deep neural networks.

In recent years, remarkable advancements in artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) have been achieved in the fields of image synthesis and text generation, generating content comparable to that produced by humans. However, the quality of AI-generated music has not yet reached this standard, primarily due to the challenge of effectively controlling musical emotions and ensuring high-quality outputs. This paper presents a generalized symbolic music generation framework, XMusic, which supports flexible prompts (i.e., images, videos, texts, tags, and humming) to generate emotionally controllable and high-quality symbolic music. XMusic consists of two core components, XProjector and XComposer. XProjector parses the prompts of various modalities into symbolic music elements (i.e., emotions, genres, rhythms and notes) within the projection space to generate matching music. XComposer contains a Generator and a Selector. The Generator generates emotionally controllable and melodious music based on our innovative symbolic music representation, whereas the Selector identifies high-quality symbolic music by constructing a multi-task learning scheme involving quality assessment, emotion recognition, and genre recognition tasks. In addition, we build XMIDI, a large-scale symbolic music dataset that contains 108,023 MIDI files annotated with precise emotion and genre labels. Objective and subjective evaluations show that XMusic significantly outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods with impressive music quality. For a class of sparse optimization problems with the penalty function of $\|(\cdot)_+\|_0$, we first characterize its local minimizers and then propose an extrapolated hard thresholding algorithm to solve such problems. We show that the iterates generated by the proposed algorithm with $\epsilon>0$ (where $\epsilon$ is the dry friction coefficient) have finite length, without relying on the Kurdyka-{\L}ojasiewicz inequality. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the algorithm converges to an $\epsilon$-local minimizer of this problem. For the special case that $\epsilon=0$, we establish that any accumulation point of the iterates is a local minimizer of the problem. Additionally, we analyze the convergence when an error term is present in the algorithm, showing that the algorithm still converges in the same manner as before, provided that the errors asymptotically approach zero. Finally, we conduct numerical experiments to verify the theoretical results of the proposed algorithm.

Many active galaxies harbor powerful relativistic jets, however, the detailed mechanisms of their formation and acceleration remain poorly understood. To investigate the area of jet acceleration and collimation with the highest available angular resolution, we study the innermost region of the bipolar jet in the nearby low-ionization nuclear emission-line region (LINER) galaxy NGC 1052. We combined observations of NGC 1052 taken with VLBA, GMVA, and EHT over one week in the spring of 2017. For the first time, NGC 1052 was detected with the EHT, providing a size of the central region in-between both jet bases of 250 RS (Schwarzschild radii) perpendicular to the jet axes. This size estimate supports previous studies of the jets expansion profile which suggest two breaks of the profile at around 300 RS and 10000 RS distances to the core. Furthermore, we estimated the magnetic field to be 1.25 Gauss at a distance of 22 {\mu}as from the central engine by fitting a synchrotron-self absorption spectrum to the innermost emission feature, which shows a spectral turn-over at about 130 GHz. Assuming a purely poloidal magnetic field, this implies an upper limit on the magnetic field strength at the event horizon of 26000 Gauss, which is consistent with previous measurements. The complex, low-brightness, double-sided jet structure in NGC 1052 makes it a challenge to detect the source at millimeter (mm) wavelengths. However, our first EHT observations have demonstrated that detection is possible up to at least 230 GHz. This study offers a glimpse through the dense surrounding torus and into the innermost central region, where the jets are formed. Based on a data sample of $(10087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/\psi$ events taken with the BESIII detector, we search for the flavor-changing neutral current charmonium decay $J/\psi \to D^{0} \mu^{+} \mu^{-} + \text{c.c.}$. No significant signal above the background is observed, and the upper limit on its branching fraction is set to be $\mathcal{B}(J/\psi \to D^{0}\mu^{+}\mu^{-} + \text{c.c.} ) < 1.1 \times 10^{-7}$ at the 90% confidence level. The search for axions sits at the intersection of solving critical problems in fundamental physics, including the strong CP problem in QCD, uncovering the nature of dark matter, and understanding the origin of the universe's matter-antimatter asymmetry. The measurement of axion-mediated spin-dependent interactions offers a powerful approach for axion detection. However, it has long been restricted to regions outside the 'axion window' due to a significant trade-off: the need to effectively suppress the magnetic leakage from highly polarized spin sources while simultaneously detecting sub-femtotesla level exotic physics signals at sub-decimeter-scale distances. In this work, we report new experimental results on axion-mediated exotic spin-spin interactions using an iron-shielded SmCo$_5$ spin source in combination with a specially designed self-compensation comagnetometer. Employing a composite shielding structure, we achieved a suppression of the magnetic field by up to $10^{11}$. This enabled us to establish new constraints on the coupling between electrons and neutrons, surpassing previous experimental limits by more than 10000 times within the axion window. Furthermore, we also set strongest constraints on the coupling between electrons and protons. The proposed method holds substantial potential not only for advancing the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model but also for enabling transformative applications in biological and chemical research.

Recent advancements in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have shown promising results, yet existing approaches struggle to effectively handle both temporal and spatial localization simultaneously. This challenge stems from two key issues: first, incorporating spatial-temporal localization introduces a vast number of coordinate combinations, complicating the alignment of linguistic and visual coordinate representations; second, encoding fine-grained temporal and spatial information during video feature compression is inherently difficult. To address these issues, we propose LLaVA-ST, a MLLM for fine-grained spatial-temporal multimodal understanding. In LLaVA-ST, we propose Language-Aligned Positional Embedding, which embeds the textual coordinate special token into the visual space, simplifying the alignment of fine-grained spatial-temporal correspondences. Additionally, we design the Spatial-Temporal Packer, which decouples the feature compression of temporal and spatial resolutions into two distinct point-to-region attention processing streams. Furthermore, we propose ST-Align dataset with 4.3M training samples for fine-grained spatial-temporal multimodal understanding. With ST-align, we present a progressive training pipeline that aligns the visual and textual feature through sequential coarse-to-fine stages.Additionally, we introduce an ST-Align benchmark to evaluate spatial-temporal interleaved fine-grained understanding tasks, which include Spatial-Temporal Video Grounding (STVG) , Event Localization and Captioning (ELC) and Spatial Video Grounding (SVG). LLaVA-ST achieves outstanding performance on 11 benchmarks requiring fine-grained temporal, spatial, or spatial-temporal interleaving multimodal understanding. As the criterion for the applicability of the background subtraction method, not only the finiteness condition of the resulting Hamiltonian but also the condition for the validity of the first law of black hole thermodynamics can be reduced to the form amenable to much simpler analysis at infinity by using the covariant phase space formalism. With this, we further establish that the background subtraction method is as applicable as the covariant counterterm method not only to Einstein's gravity, but also to its higher derivative corrections for black hole thermodynamics in both asymptotically flat and AdS spacetimes. In addition, our framework also provides us with the first derivation of the universal expression of the Gibbs free energy in terms of the Euclidean on-shell action beyond Einstein's gravity. Quantum machine learning (QML), which combines quantum computing with machine learning, is widely believed to hold the potential to outperform traditional machine learning in the era of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ). As one of the most important types of QML, quantum reinforcement learning (QRL) with parameterized quantum circuits as agents has received extensive attention in the past few years. Various algorithms and techniques have been introduced, demonstrating the effectiveness of QRL in solving some popular benchmark environments such as CartPole, FrozenLake, and MountainCar. However, tackling more complex environments with continuous action spaces and high-dimensional state spaces remains challenging within the existing QRL framework. Here we present PPO-Q, which, by integrating hybrid quantum-classical networks into the actor or critic part of the proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm, achieves state-of-the-art performance in a range of complex environments with significantly reduced training parameters. The hybrid quantum-classical networks in the PPO-Q incorporate two additional traditional neural networks to aid the parameterized quantum circuits in managing high-dimensional state encoding and action selection. When evaluated on 8 diverse environments, including four with continuous action space, the PPO-Q achieved comparable performance with the PPO algorithm but with significantly reduced training parameters. Especially, we accomplished the BipedalWalker environment, with a high-dimensional state and continuous action space simultaneously, which has not previously been reported in the QRL. More importantly, the PPO-Q is very friendly to the current NISQ hardware. We successfully trained two representative environments on the real superconducting quantum devices via the Quafu quantum cloud service.

In this paper, we focus on finding the global minimizer of a general unconstrained nonsmooth nonconvex optimization problem. Taking advantage of the smoothing method and the consensus-based optimization (CBO) method, we propose a novel smoothing iterative consensus-based optimization (SICBO) algorithm. First, we prove that the solution process of the proposed algorithm here exponentially converges to a common stochastic consensus point almost surely. Second, we establish a detailed theoretical analysis to ensure the small enough error between the objective function value at the consensus point and the optimal function value, to the best of our knowledge, which provides the first theoretical guarantee to the global optimality of the proposed algorithm for nonconvex optimization problems. Moreover, unlike the previously introduced CBO methods, the theoretical results are valid for the cases that the objective function is nonsmooth, nonconvex and perhaps non-Lipschitz continuous. Finally, several numerical examples are performed to illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm for solving the global minimizer of the nonsmooth and nonconvex optimization problems.

The Einstein Probe (EP) is an interdisciplinary mission of time-domain and X-ray astronomy. Equipped with a wide-field lobster-eye X-ray focusing imager, EP will discover cosmic X-ray transients and monitor the X-ray variability of known sources in 0.5-4 keV, at a combination of detecting sensitivity and cadence that is not accessible to the previous and current wide-field monitoring missions. EP can perform quick characterisation of transients or outbursts with a Wolter-I X-ray telescope onboard. In this paper, the science objectives of the Einstein Probe mission are presented. EP is expected to enlarge the sample of previously known or predicted but rare types of transients with a wide range of timescales. Among them, fast extragalactic transients will be surveyed systematically in soft X-rays, which include {\gamma}-ray bursts and their variants, supernova shock breakouts, and the predicted X-ray transients associated with binary neutron star mergers. EP will detect X-ray tidal disruption events and outbursts from active galactic nuclei, possibly at an early phase of the flares for some. EP will monitor the variability and outbursts of X-rays from white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes in our and neighbouring galaxies at flux levels fainter than those detectable by the current instruments, and is expected to discover new objects. A large sample of stellar X-ray flares will also be detected and characterised. In the era of multi-messenger astronomy, EP has the potential of detecting the possible X-ray counterparts of gravitational wave events, neutrino sources, and ultra-high energy {\gamma}-ray and cosmic ray sources. The recent discovery of ambient-pressure superconductivity in thin-film bilayer nickelates opens new possibilities for investigating electronic structures in this new class of high-transition temperature $T_C$ superconductors. Here, we construct a realistic multi-orbital Hubbard model for the thin-film system, by integrating ab initio calculations with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) measurements, which reveal a higher-symmetry lattice. The interaction parameters are calculated with the constrained random phase approximation (cRPA). Density functional theory (DFT) plus cluster dynamical mean-field theory (CDMFT) calculations, with cRPA calculated on-site Coulomb repulsive $U$ and experimentally measured electron filling $n$, quantitatively reproduces Fermi surfaces from angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments. The distinct Fermi surface topology from simple DFT+$U$ results features the indispensable role of correlation effects. Based upon the correlated electronic structures, A modified random-phase-approximation (RPA) approach yields a pronounced $s^{\pm}$-wave pairing instability, due to the strong spin fluctuations originated from Fermi surface nesting between bands with predominantly $d_{z^{2}}$ characters. Our findings highlight the quantitative effectiveness of the DFT+cRPA+CDMFT approach that precisely determines correlated electronic structure parameters without fine-tuning. Lately, a novel swarm intelligence model, namely the consensus-based optimization (CBO) algorithm, was introduced to deal with the global optimization problems. Limited by the conditions of Ito's formula, the convergence analysis of the previous CBO finite particle system mainly focuses on the problem with smooth objective function. With the help of smoothing method, this paper achieves a breakthrough by proposing an effective CBO algorithm for solving the global solution of a nonconvex, nonsmooth, and possible non-Lipschitz continuous minimization problem with theoretical analysis, which dose not rely on the mean-field limit. We indicate that the proposed algorithm exhibits a global consensus and converges to a common state with any initial data. Then, we give a more detailed error estimation on the objective function values along the state of the proposed algorithm towards the global minimum. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the appreciable performance of the proposed method on solving the nonsmooth, nonconvex minimization problems.

Data imputation is crucial for addressing challenges posed by missing values in multivariate time series data across various fields, such as healthcare, traffic, and economics, and has garnered significant attention. Among various methods, diffusion model-based approaches show notable performance improvements. However, existing methods often cause disharmonious boundaries between missing and known regions and overlook long-range dependencies in missing data estimation, leading to suboptimal results. To address these issues, we propose a Diffusion-based time Series Data Imputation (DSDI) framework. We develop a weight-reducing injection strategy that incorporates the predicted values of missing points with reducing weights into the reverse diffusion process to mitigate boundary inconsistencies. Further, we introduce a multi-scale S4-based U-Net, which combines hierarchical information from different levels via multi-resolution integration to capture long-term dependencies. With the rapid advancements in large language model (LLM) technology and the emergence of bioinformatics-specific language models (BioLMs), there is a growing need for a comprehensive analysis of the current landscape, computational characteristics, and diverse applications. This survey aims to address this need by providing a thorough review of BioLMs, focusing on their evolution, classification, and distinguishing features, alongside a detailed examination of training methodologies, datasets, and evaluation frameworks. We explore the wide-ranging applications of BioLMs in critical areas such as disease diagnosis, drug discovery, and vaccine development, highlighting their impact and transformative potential in bioinformatics. We identify key challenges and limitations inherent in BioLMs, including data privacy and security concerns, interpretability issues, biases in training data and model outputs, and domain adaptation complexities. The 2017 observing campaign of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) delivered the first very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) images at the observing frequency of 230 GHz, leading to a number of unique studies on black holes and relativistic jets from active galactic nuclei (AGN). In total, eighteen sources were observed: the main science targets, Sgr A* and M87 along with various calibrators. We investigated the morphology of the sixteen AGN in the EHT 2017 data set, focusing on the properties of the VLBI cores: size, flux density, and brightness temperature. We studied their dependence on the observing frequency in order to compare it with the Blandford-K\"onigl (BK) jet model. We modeled the source structure of seven AGN in the EHT 2017 data set using linearly polarized circular Gaussian components and collected results for the other nine AGN from dedicated EHT publications, complemented by lower frequency data in the 2-86 GHz range. Then, we studied the dependences of the VLBI core flux density, size, and brightness temperature on the frequency measured in the AGN host frame. We compared the observations with the BK jet model and estimated the magnetic field strength dependence on the distance from the central black hole. Our results indicate a deviation from the standard BK model, particularly in the decrease of the brightness temperature with the observing frequency. Either bulk acceleration of the jet material, energy transfer from the magnetic field to the particles, or both are required to explain the observations.

The inaccurate translation of numbers can lead to significant security issues, ranging from financial setbacks to medical inaccuracies. While large language models (LLMs) have made significant advancements in machine translation, their capacity for translating numbers has not been thoroughly explored. This study focuses on evaluating the reliability of LLM-based machine translation systems when handling numerical data. In order to systematically test the numerical translation capabilities of currently open source LLMs, we have constructed a numerical translation dataset between Chinese and English based on real business data, encompassing ten types of numerical translation. Experiments on the dataset indicate that errors in numerical translation are a common issue, with most open-source LLMs faltering when faced with our test scenarios. Especially when it comes to numerical types involving large units like ``million", ``billion", and "yi", even the latest llama3.1 8b model can have error rates as high as 20%. Spin-orbit torque-induced perpendicular magnetization switching has attracted much attention due to the advantages of nonvolatility, high density, infinite read/write counts, and low power consumption in spintronic applications. To achieve field-free deterministic switching of perpendicular magnetization, additional magnetic field, magnetic layer assistance, or artificially designed structural symmetry breaking are usually required, which are not conducive to the high-density integration and application of low-power devices. However, 2D Weyl semimetals with low-symmetry structures have recently been found to generate z-spin-polarized currents, which may induce out-of-plane damping-like torques to their neighboring ferromagnetic layers, and realize deterministic perpendicular magnetization switching at zero magnetic field. In this Letter, we report that current-induced field-free magnetization switching at room temperature can be achieved in a perpendicularly magnetized TaIrTe4/Pt/Co/Pt device, and the critical switching current density can be lowered to be about 2.64*105 Acm-2. This study suggests that TaIrTe4 has great potential for the design of room-temperature efficient spintronic devices.

Physical AI needs to be trained digitally first. It needs a digital twin of itself, the policy model, and a digital twin of the world, the world model. In this paper, we present the Cosmos World Foundation Model Platform to help developers build customized world models for their Physical AI setups. We position a world foundation model as a general-purpose world model that can be fine-tuned into customized world models for downstream applications. Our platform covers a video curation pipeline, pre-trained world foundation models, examples of post-training of pre-trained world foundation models, and video tokenizers. To help Physical AI builders solve the most critical problems of our society, we make our platform open-source and our models open-weight with permissive licenses available via https://github.com/NVIDIA/Cosmos.

Nonreciprocal optical devices are key components in photonic integrated circuits for light reflection blocking and routing. Most reported silicon integrated nonreciprocal optical devices to date were unit devices. To allow complex signal routing between multi-ports in photonic networks, multi-port magneto-optical (MO) nonreciprocal photonic devices are desired. In this study, we report experimental demonstration of a silicon integrated 5*5 multiport nonreciprocal photonic device based on magneto-optical waveguides. By introducing different nonreciprocal phase shift effect to planar photonic waveguides, the device focuses light to different ports for both forward and backward propagation. The device shows designable nonreciprocal transmission between 5*5 ports, achieving 16 dB isolation ratio and -18 dB crosstalk., Comment: 14pages, 7figures

Anesthetics are crucial in surgical procedures and therapeutic interventions, but they come with side effects and varying levels of effectiveness, calling for novel anesthetic agents that offer more precise and controllable effects. Targeting Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors, the primary inhibitory receptors in the central nervous system, could enhance their inhibitory action, potentially reducing side effects while improving the potency of anesthetics. In this study, we introduce a proteomic learning of GABA receptor-mediated anesthesia based on 24 GABA receptor subtypes by considering over 4000 proteins in protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks and over 1.5 millions known binding compounds. We develop a corresponding drug-target interaction network to identify potential lead compounds for novel anesthetic design. To ensure robust proteomic learning predictions, we curated a dataset comprising 136 targets from a pool of 980 targets within the PPI networks. We employed three machine learning algorithms, integrating advanced natural language processing (NLP) models such as pretrained transformer and autoencoder embeddings. Through a comprehensive screening process, we evaluated the side effects and repurposing potential of over 180,000 drug candidates targeting the GABRA5 receptor. Additionally, we assessed the ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity) properties of these candidates to identify those with near-optimal characteristics. This approach also involved optimizing the structures of existing anesthetics. Our work presents an innovative strategy for the development of new anesthetic drugs, optimization of anesthetic use, and deeper understanding of potential anesthesia-related side effects.

Through the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect, several hot Jupiters have been found to exhibit spin-orbit misalignment, and even retrograde orbits. The high obliquity observed in these planets can be attributed to two primary formation mechanisms, as summarized in the existing literature. First, the host star's spin becomes misaligned with the planetary disk during the late stages of star formation, primarily due to chaotic accretion and magnetic interactions between the star and the planetary disk. Second, the orbital inclination of an individual planet can be excited by dynamical processes such as planet-planet scattering, the Lidov-Kozai cycle, and secular chaos within the framework of Newtonian mechanics. This study introduces a third mechanism, where, within the framework of general relativity, the post-Newtonian spin-orbit coupling term induces precession of the host star's spin around the orbital angular momentum. The orbital inclination, relative to a reference plane, can expand the range of deviation in the spatial orientation of the bodies' spins from the plane's normal. Reducing computational costs is an important issue for development of embedded systems. Binary-weight Neural Networks (BNNs), in which weights are binarized and activations are quantized, are employed to reduce computational costs of various kinds of applications. In this paper, a design methodology of hardware architecture for inference engines is proposed to handle modern BNNs with two operation modes. Multiply-Accumulate (MAC) operations can be simplified by replacing multiply operations with bitwise operations. The proposed method can effectively reduce the gate count of inference engines by removing a part of computational costs from the hardware system. The architecture of MAC operations can calculate the inference results of BNNs efficiently with only 52% of hardware costs compared with the related works. To show that the inference engine can handle practical applications, two lightweight networks which combine the backbones of SegNeXt and the decoder of SparseInst for instance segmentation are also proposed. The output results of the lightweight networks are computed using only bitwise operations and add operations. The proposed inference engine has lower hardware costs than related works. The experimental results show that the proposed inference engine can handle the proposed instance-segmentation networks and achieves higher accuracy than YOLACT on the "Person" category although the model size is 77.7$\times$ smaller compared with YOLACT., Comment: Camera-ready version for CVPR 2024 workshop (Embedded Vision Workshop)

Reconstructing Hyperspectral Images (HSI) from RGB images can yield high spatial resolution HSI at a lower cost, demonstrating significant application potential. This paper reveals that local correlation and global continuity of the spectral characteristics are crucial for HSI reconstruction tasks. Therefore, we fully explore these inter-spectral relationships and propose a Correlation and Continuity Network (CCNet) for HSI reconstruction from RGB images. For the correlation of local spectrum, we introduce the Group-wise Spectral Correlation Modeling (GrSCM) module, which efficiently establishes spectral band similarity within a localized range. For the continuity of global spectrum, we design the Neighborhood-wise Spectral Continuity Modeling (NeSCM) module, which employs memory units to recursively model the progressive variation characteristics at the global level. In order to explore the inherent complementarity of these two modules, we design the Patch-wise Adaptive Fusion (PAF) module to efficiently integrate global continuity features into the spectral features in a patch-wise adaptive manner. These innovations enhance the quality of reconstructed HSI. We perform comprehensive comparison and ablation experiments on the mainstream datasets NTIRE2022 and NTIRE2020 for the spectral reconstruction task. Compared to the current advanced spectral reconstruction algorithms, our designed algorithm achieves State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) performance.

Developing neutron spectrometers with higher counting efficiency has been an essential pursuit in neutron instrumentation. In this work, we present BOYA, a multiplexing cold neutron spectrometers designed and implemented at the China Advanced Research Reactor. Equipped with 34 angular analyzing channels spanning 119{\deg}, each containing 5 inelastic channels and 1 diffraction channel, BOYA enhances the measurement efficiency by two orders of magnitude over a traditional triple-axis spectrometer. To optimize both intensity and energy resolution, innovative double-column Rowland focusing analyzers have been developed. By filling the crystal gaps in the traditional Rowland focusing geometry, our design enhances the neutron beam coverage without introducing appreciable double-scattering. Our commissioning results on vanadium and MnWO4 have confirmed the success of the design, establishing BOYA as a successful multiplexing instrument for neutron spectroscopy.

This Letter reports the precise measurement of reactor antineutrino spectrum and flux based on the full data set of 4.7 million inverse-beta-decay (IBD) candidates collected at Daya Bay near detectors. Expressed in terms of the IBD yield per fission, the antineutrino spectra from all reactor fissile isotopes and the specific $\mathrm{^{235}U}$ and $\mathrm{^{239}Pu}$ isotopes are measured with 1.3$\%$, 3$\%$ and 8$\%$ uncertainties respectively near the 3 MeV spectrum peak in reconstructed energy, reaching the best precision in the world. The total antineutrino flux and isotopic $\mathrm{^{235}U}$ and $\mathrm{^{239}Pu}$ fluxes are precisely measured to be $5.84\pm0.07$, $6.16\pm0.12$ and $4.16\pm0.21$ in units of $10^{-43} \mathrm{cm^2/fission}$. These measurements are compared with the Huber-Mueller (HM) model, the reevaluated conversion model based on the Kurchatov Institute (KI) measurement and the latest Summation Model (SM2023). The Daya Bay flux shows good consistency with KI and SM2023 models, but disagrees with HM model. The Daya Bay spectrum, however, disagrees with all model predictions.

Acoustic Scene Classification (ASC) identifies an environment based on an audio signal. This paper explores ASC in low-resource conditions and proposes a novel model, DS-FlexiNet, which combines depthwise separable convolutions from MobileNetV2 with ResNet-inspired residual connections for a balance of efficiency and accuracy. To address hardware limitations and device heterogeneity, DS-FlexiNet employs Quantization Aware Training (QAT) for model compression and data augmentation methods like Auto Device Impulse Response (ADIR) and Freq-MixStyle (FMS) to improve cross-device generalization. Knowledge Distillation (KD) from twelve teacher models further enhances performance on unseen devices. The architecture includes a custom Residual Normalization layer to handle domain differences across devices, and depthwise separable convolutions reduce computational overhead without sacrificing feature representation. Despite decades of effort, understanding the shape of genome space in biology remains a challenge due to the similarity, variability, diversity, and plasticity of evolutionary relationships among species, genes, or other biological entities. We present a k-mer topology method, the first of its kind, to delineate the shape of the genome space. K-mer topology examines the topological persistence and the evolution of the homotopic shape of the sequences of k nucleotides in species, organisms, and genes using persistent Laplacians, a new multiscale combinatorial approach. We also propose a topological genetic distance between species by their topological invariants and non-harmonic spectra over scales. This new metric defines the topological phylogenetic trees of genomes, facilitating species classification and clustering. K-mer topology substantially outperforms state-of-the-art methods on a variety of benchmark datasets, including mammalian mitochondrial genomes, Rhinovirus, SARS-CoV-2 variants, Ebola virus, Hepatitis E virus, Influenza hemagglutinin genes, and whole bacterial genomes. Microwave-optical entanglement is essential for efficient quantum communication, secure information transfer, and integrating microwave and optical quantum systems to advance hybrid quantum technologies. In this work, we demonstrate how the magnon Kerr effect can be harnessed to generate and control nonreciprocal entanglement in cavity optomagnomechanics (COMM). This effect induces magnon frequency shifts and introduces pair-magnon interactions, both of which are tunable through the magnetic field direction, enabling nonreciprocal behavior. By adjusting system parameters such as magnon frequency detuning, we show that magnon-phonon, microwave-optical photon-photon, and optical photon-magnon entanglement can be nonreciprocally enhanced and rendered more robust against thermal noise. Additionally, the nonreciprocity of entanglement can be selectively controlled, and ideal nonreciprocal entanglement is achievable. We present a novel constraint on light dark matter utilizing $1.54$ tonne$\cdot$year of data acquired from the PandaX-4T dual-phase xenon time projection chamber. This constraint is derived through detecting electronic recoil signals resulting from the interaction with solar-enhanced dark matter flux. Low-mass dark matter particles, lighter than a few MeV/$c^2$, can scatter with the thermal electrons in the Sun. Consequently, with higher kinetic energy, the boosted dark matter component becomes detectable via contact scattering with xenon electrons, resulting in a few keV energy deposition that exceeds the threshold of PandaX-4T. We calculate the expected recoil energy in PandaX-4T considering the Sun's acceleration and the detection capabilities of the xenon detector. The first experimental search results using the xenon detector yield the most stringent cross-section of $3.51 \times 10^{-39}~\mathrm{cm}^2$ at $0.08~\mathrm{MeV}$/$c^2$ for a solar boosted dark matter mass ranging from $0.02$ to $10~ \mathrm{MeV}$/$c^2$, achieving a 23 fold improvement compared with earlier experimental studies.

We discuss the landscape of flavor physics at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the nominal luminosity outlined in its Technical Design Report. The CEPC is designed to operate in multiple modes to address a variety of tasks. At the $Z$ pole, the expected production of 4 Tera $Z$ bosons will provide unique and highly precise measurements of $Z$ boson couplings, while the substantial number of boosted heavy-flavored quarks and leptons produced in clean $Z$ decays will facilitate investigations into their flavor physics with unprecedented precision. We investigate the prospects of measuring various physics benchmarks and discuss their implications for particle theories and phenomenological models. Our studies indicate that, with its highlighted advantages and anticipated excellent detector performance, the CEPC can explore beauty and $\tau$ physics in ways that are superior to or complementary with the Belle II and Large-Hadron-Collider-beauty experiments, potentially enabling the detection of new physics at energy scales of 10 TeV and above. This potential also extends to the observation of yet-to-be-discovered rare and exotic processes, as well as testing fundamental principles such as lepton flavor universality, lepton and baryon number conservation, etc., making the CEPC a vibrant platform for flavor physics research. The $WW$ threshold scan, Higgs-factory operation and top-pair productions of the CEPC further enhance its merits in this regard, especially for measuring the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, and Flavor-Changing-Neutral-Current physics of Higgs boson and top quarks. We outline the requirements for detector performance and considerations for future development to achieve the anticipated scientific goals.

We present DeepSeek-V3, a strong Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model with 671B total parameters with 37B activated for each token. To achieve efficient inference and cost-effective training, DeepSeek-V3 adopts Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) and DeepSeekMoE architectures, which were thoroughly validated in DeepSeek-V2. Furthermore, DeepSeek-V3 pioneers an auxiliary-loss-free strategy for load balancing and sets a multi-token prediction training objective for stronger performance. We pre-train DeepSeek-V3 on 14.8 trillion diverse and high-quality tokens, followed by Supervised Fine-Tuning and Reinforcement Learning stages to fully harness its capabilities. Comprehensive evaluations reveal that DeepSeek-V3 outperforms other open-source models and achieves performance comparable to leading closed-source models. Despite its excellent performance, DeepSeek-V3 requires only 2.788M H800 GPU hours for its full training. In addition, its training process is remarkably stable. Throughout the entire training process, we did not experience any irrecoverable loss spikes or perform any rollbacks. Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a common sleep disorder caused by upper airway blockage, leading to oxygen deprivation and disrupted sleep. Traditional diagnosis using polysomnography (PSG) is expensive, time-consuming, and uncomfortable. Existing deep learning methods using facial image analysis lack accuracy due to poor facial feature capture and limited sample sizes. To address this, we propose a multimodal dual encoder model that integrates visual and language inputs for automated OSAHS diagnosis. The model balances data using randomOverSampler, extracts key facial features with attention grids, and converts physiological data into meaningful text. Cross-attention combines image and text data for better feature extraction, and ordered regression loss ensures stable learning. Our approach improves diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, achieving 91.3% top-1 accuracy in a four-class severity classification task, demonstrating state-of-the-art performance. U-Net models with encoder, decoder, and skip-connections components have demonstrated effectiveness in a variety of vision tasks. The skip-connections transmit fine-grained information from the encoder to the decoder. It is necessary to maintain the feature maps used by the skip-connections in memory before the decoding stage. Therefore, they are not friendly to devices with limited resource. In this paper, we propose a universal method and architecture to reduce the memory consumption and meanwhile generate enhanced feature maps to improve network performance. To this end, we design a simple but effective Multi-Scale Information Aggregation Module (MSIAM) in the encoder and an Information Enhancement Module (IEM) in the decoder. The MSIAM aggregates multi-scale feature maps into single-scale with less memory. After that, the aggregated feature maps can be expanded and enhanced to multi-scale feature maps by the IEM. By applying the proposed method on NAFNet, a SOTA model in the field of image restoration, we design a memory-efficient and feature-enhanced network architecture, UNet--. The memory demand by the skip-connections in the UNet-- is reduced by 93.3%, while the performance is improved compared to NAFNet. Furthermore, we show that our proposed method can be generalized to multiple visual tasks, with consistent improvements in both memory consumption and network accuracy compared to the existing efficient architectures., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, accepted by ACCV2024

As part of the BISTRO survey, we present JCMT 850 $\mu$m polarimetric observations towards the Orion Integral-Shaped Filament (ISF) that covers three portions known as OMC-1, OMC-2, and OMC-3. The magnetic field threading the ISF seen in the JCMT POL-2 map appears as a tale of three: pinched for OMC-1, twisted for OMC-2, and nearly uniform for OMC-3. A multi-scale analysis shows that the magnetic field structure in OMC-3 is very consistent at all the scales, whereas the field structure in OMC-2 shows no correlation across different scales. In OMC-1, the field retains its mean orientation from large to small scales, but shows some deviations at small scales. Histograms of relative orientations between the magnetic field and filaments reveal a bimodal distribution for OMC-1, a relatively random distribution for OMC-2, and a distribution with a predominant peak at 90$^\circ$ for OMC-3. Furthermore, the magnetic fields in OMC-1 and OMC-3 both appear to be aligned perpendicular to the fibers, which are denser structures within the filament, but the field in OMC-2 is aligned along with the fibers. All these suggest that gravity, turbulence, and magnetic field are each playing a leading role in OMC-1, 2, and 3, respectively. While OMC-2 and 3 have almost the same gas mass, density, and non-thermal velocity dispersion, there are on average younger and fewer young stellar objects in OMC-3, providing evidence that a stronger magnetic field will induce slower and less efficient star formation in molecular clouds., Comment: published in the ApJ Letters

In harsh environments such as mountainous terrain, dense vegetation areas, or urban landscapes, a single type of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) may encounter challenges like flight restrictions, difficulty in task execution, or increased risk. Therefore, employing multiple types of UAVs, along with satellite assistance, to collaborate becomes essential in such scenarios. In this context, we present a stochastic geometry based approach for modeling the heterogeneous non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) by using the classical binomial point process and introducing a novel point process, called Mat{\'e}rn hard-core cluster process (MHCCP). Our MHCCP possesses both the exclusivity and the clustering properties, thus it can better model the aircraft group composed of multiple clusters. Then, we derive closed-form expressions of the outage probability (OP) for the uplink (aerial-to-satellite) of heterogeneous NTNs. Unlike existing studies, our analysis relies on a more advanced system configuration, where the integration of beamforming and frequency division multiple access, and the shadowed-Rician (SR) fading model for interference power, are considered.
