Numerous jazz releases are called the last date or the final concert, to underline that they document the end of a musical career. Biographies, documentaries, and liner notes tend to zoom in on these moments, which accrue new meaning in light of the impending death of the musician. This chapter looks at how such performances are fetishized and mythologized. It introduces a number of case studies: Miles Davis’s revisiting of earlier work at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Chet Baker’s fatal fall from an Amsterdam hotel window, Clifford Brown’s supposed final concert, and Ben Webster’s last recording and “prophetic words” in public.

The article deals with the problems of creativity and myth making in the Moscow texts by A. Dolmatov. The research is aimed at studying the authors ideas about his lyrical hero and the formation of the narrators self-portrait. A. Dolmatovs texts are dedicated to Moscow and the urban way of life, since it is the Moscow theme that is the sense-making component in the writers work. The article presents a brief history of rap poetry formation in Russia in the XXI century. The main features of problematics and poetics of A. Dolmatovs texts are analyzed. The task is to trace the evolution of the authors ideas on poetics and the meaning of rap as a genre of literature. The relationship of Dolmatovs lyrical hero with the city of roads, Moscow, defines the development of the authors work in alternative poetry of the 21 century.

The article focuses on the reception of Meliadus’ identity in the printed edition of Meliadus de Leonnoys by Galliot du Pré (1528). It compares the prologue and the denouement of the edition to the 13th century Roman de Meliadus, to the Roman de Guiron, as well as to the incunabulum of Tristan published by Jehan le Bourgoys (1489). The prologue links Meliadus to two forms of lineage : a symbolic lineage of historical figures, and a carnal lineage of kings and ancessors. As for the denouement, it weaves around the hero a web of revenge relations that distort the meaning of Tristan legend’s past. Both the prologue and the denouement emphasize Meliadus’ aristocratic identity. The appendix contains a transcription of the end of Meliadus de Leonnoys, next to the text of Tristan given both by the Paris manuscript, BnF, fr. 103 and by the incunabulum of 1489. L’article porte sur la réception de l’identité de Meliadus dans l’imprimé Meliadus de Leonnoys de Galliot du Pré (1528). Il étudie le prologue et le dénouement de l’imprimé à la fois par rapport au Roman de Meliadus et au Roman de Guiron du XIIIe siècle, et par rapport à l’incunable du Tristan paru chez Jehan le Bourgoys (1489). Le prologue rattache Meliadus à deux types de lignées : une lignée symbolique de figures historiques, une lignée charnelle d’ancêtres et de rois. Quant au dénouement, il inscrit le héros dans un système vindicatoire rudimentaire qui infléchit le sens du passé de la légende tristanienne. Prologue et dénouement mettent l’accent sur l’identité proprement aristocratique de Meliadus. Une transcription de la fin de Meliadus de Leonnoys est donnée en annexe, en regard du texte du Tristan que donnent le manuscrit de Paris, BnF, fr. 103 et l’incunable de 1489.

Every country has its own culture. Japan has a close culture of art, both modern and traditional. One of the Japanese arts in literature is poetry. Poetry in Japanese literature is called haiku. To find out the differences and similarities in the meanings contained in the autumn-themed haiku by Masaoka Shiki and Takarai Kikaku, the writer intends to analyze the comparison of the two-autumn haiku by Masaoka Shiki and Takarai Kikaku. Comparative analysis of meaning is studied using Ronald Barthes's semiotic study to find its meaning. The semiotic study used is Ronald Barthes's semiotics which uses two stages of study through denotation and connotation, then its relationship with myth or culture. The result of this research produces a comparison of the similarities and differences between Masaoka Shiki's autumn haiku and Takarai Kikaku's. The similarity of autumn haiku by Masaoka Shiki and Takarai Kikaku is the theme raised, namely the beauty of nature and the environment. While the difference between the autumn haiku by Masaoka Shiki and Takarai Kikaku is the philosophical meaning of the discussion, and in the background of time and atmosphere mentioned.

Textbooks are one of the main components in teaching learning activities. It is very important that textbooks should be adjusted to the children’s cognitive development at specific age. Semiotics is one of the aspects that can be evaluated in a textbook because the illustration of semiotics is very specific element that has great influence on children’s visual perception. Specifically, the aim of this study is to analyze Semiotics on the students’ English textbook in Elementary school. This study investigated the meaning of semiotics on students’ English textbook in the second grade Elementary school and how semiotics realized on students’ English textbook in the second grade Elementary School. This study applied qualitative research in terms of library research to collect the data from the students’ English textbook in the second grade Elementary school. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed by applying semiotic analysis based on the Pierce’s semiotic theory namely representaman (signifier), object (referent) and interpretan (signified). The results of this study indicated that this book is very suitable for learning for the second grade students of Elementary school at SDIT Al-Hijrah 2 because the exercises contain symbols, pictures and signs that are very interesting for the second grade students of Elementary school who have high imagination. The researchers had analyzed the main pictures related to the theme of the material in the exercises. In addition, the relationship between the pictures of the exercises and the meaning is interconnected each other.

From Sagracao do alfabeto, 2009, by Leonor Scliar-Cabral, to A verdadeira historia do alfabeto e alguns verbetes de um dicionario, 2012, by Noemi Jaffe, the letter constitutes a collection of poetic and narrative possibilities. By conceiving the letter as a minimal unit of meaning, the writers are inscribed in a tradition of authors who see in the micro, the magnitudes of the multiple. Scliar-Cabral extracts from the Hebrew alphabet numerous lyrical reverberations, transforming letters into poetry, eclipsing the sense of the unique by expanding the connotations of the letters. Jaffe, in turn, in prose, redefines the meaning of the notion of history by proposing an unusual linearity for each letter of the Latin alphabet. This communication will analyze these two literary paths of Brazilian Literature in the context of contemporary Jewish texts.

El presente texto analiza un álbum fotográfico con un sentido religioso muy particular. A las fotografías contenidas en dicho conjunto se les atribuyó un sentido devocional en tanto que consisten en representaciones de José de León Toral —fanático católico que asesinó al presidente mexicano Álvaro Obregón en 1928—. De acuerdo con lo anterior, las fotografías son consideradas como reliquias por los creyentes, aspecto que nos permite cuestionar el valor de la fotografía como una extensión del cuerpo. El álbum no sólo reconstruye la memoria del personaje, sino que recupera la larga tradición de las vidas de los santos cristianos para presentarnos una vida modélica que, desde la materialidad del álbum y las fotografías, confecciona un cuerpo-objeto, el cual es posible considerar como una fotohagiografía de uno de los personajes más polémicos de la historia del siglo XX mexicano.

In September 2019 Indonesia was busy discussing the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law which was passed, in this condition Tempo magazine depicts the symbol of President Jokowi with the silhouette of Pinocchio on the cover of the 16-22 September 2019 edition of Tempo magazine. Bacterial chemotaxis is often considered to be a textbook example of the rudimentary semiotic process. As such, it gives an excellent opportunity to better understand both semiosis and biology. Our study reviews this phenomenon in the light of up-to-date scientific knowledge to answer the most basic semiotic questions: what is the sign? What types of signs are there? What is the meaning understood on the molecular level, and by what means can it grow with time? As a case study, the bacterial chemotaxis toward glucose in E. coli species is chosen, and the semiotic framework of Charles Sanders Peirce applied. The analyses provide us with the following results: the sign, in its ultimate nature, is a general process. Bacterial chemotaxis can be understood in terms of Peircean type, symbol, and argument. The meaning on the molecular level is entirely pragmatic and, in this case, reduced to a bacterial response to glucose. A sign can grow through sign generalization, the emergence of different sign categories, the integration of these categories in functional cycles, and the introduction of contextuality. The sign of bacterial chemotaxis extends from the cell signaling pathways up to the population level. The presented results advance our knowledge of sign processing in the context of semiotic evolution.

Semiotics is the study of symbols and the creation of their meaning through social interactions. In this paper, we explore more deeply the socially situated nature of semiotics by extending current semiotics theories and frameworks from the perspective of emergent modeling. The first expansion is to replace the interpretant (meaning associated with symbols) with a construct that comes from social constructivism, namely taken-as-shared mathematical ideas. The second involves integrating purpose into semiotic frameworks. Finally, we broaden the time span that is typical for semiotic analyses to account for 5 weeks of collective activity and describe an argumentation analytic technique for doing so. We do all of this from the point of view of instructional designers who use realistic mathematics education and consider emergent modeling as a lynchpin of instruction.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode Analisis Semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce untuk melihat konstruksi makna cantik pada iklan Clean and Clear tersebut. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa makna cantik ditunjukkan melalui warna kulit model pada iklan. Iklan ini membentuk makna cantik dengan warna kulit yang beraneka ragam, namun dapat memancarkan kecantikannya dengan merawat kulit wajah dengan baik. Juga memberikan motivasi agar wanita Indonesia membentuk kepercayaan diri dengan berfikir kepada hal yang positif.

El artículo estudia los orígenes de esta expresión, su disposición en el Documento Q, su función literaria y su significación teológica.

There are two competing approaches to the change of lexical meaning: the individualizing approach, which focuses on the emergence of each particular meaning in a vocable, and the holistic one, which aims to account for the fluctuations, i.e. the expansion, stabilization and contraction of the range of its meanings. The individualizing approach remains dominant until today, although Arsène Darmesteter paved the way for the holistic approach as early as 1887. The purpose of this article is to extract part of the content of the TLF(i)’s historical records in order to build a diachronic semasiological database that can be converted into a series of trees symbolizing the fluctuations of the polysemy of an item century by century. The study is illustrated by exploring the evolutionary polysemy of the verb prévenir and the nouns terre and monde and results in highlighting the period of “coincidence” between the respective polysemies of these two nouns.

The purpose of the article is to reveal the influence of the semantic-symbolic system of traditional women's clothing on the formation and development of trends in a modern design using the example of a scarf. Methodology. Comparative-historical and historical-typological methods have been applied in order to identify the tendency in the development of a headscarf as an element of a woman's costume; the hermeneutic method, which helped to understand and interpret signs and symbols as components of traditional culture; systemic method (for considering the system of symbols of a woman's headscarf as a cultural and artistic phenomenon); the method of art history analysis (according to M. Bakhtin and A. Losev); a method of a functional nature (for identifying the main functions of the elements of a semantically sign system and revealing their significance for expressing aesthetic, sacred and ethical motives), etc. Scientific novelty. The semantics of the headscarf as an element of the female national costume, the peculiarities of the coloristic and compositional solutions of the decorative design of the female headscarf are investigated, the main ornamental motifs and forms are analyzed in the context of their use in modern design; revealed and substantiated the influence of the semantic-symbolic system of the traditional women's headscarf on the development of modern clothing design; the semantisation of the elements of the system of symbols of the traditional women's headscarf has been carried out; the features of the integration of the elements of the ornament of the traditional national headscarf into the designer clothes of the 20th century are characterized; analyzed the problems of meaning and its expression by means of pictorial and colored symbols in a modern woman's headscarf. Conclusions. Preserving the ancient sacred symbolism of the canvas, characteristic of the mythological consciousness, as well as mastering the centuries-old experience of Christian understanding, the headscarf has remained an integral part of the traditional female costume for many centuries. In the design of the 21st-century women's scarf. semiotics of color is actively used, which acts as a symbolic guideline for associations that have developed in history, culture, and philosophy. Floral images are the aesthetic value of the subject environment and are realized in the process of artistic creativity of designers, enriching the aesthetics of human ecological space. At the present stage, the appeal of domestic clothing designers to the ethnic style makes it expedient to deepen the understanding of its semantical sign system. Revealing the peculiarities of the semiotics of the color of a traditional Ukrainian women's headscarf, research and analysis of its symbolism provide a modern designer with an almost unlimited dimension for creativity and contribute to the strengthening of national self-awareness.

El artículo analiza el proceso de construcción de una memoria compartida sobre la llamada Guerra de Independencia a partir de los debates en la prensa y los discursos conmemorativos del 16 y el 27 de septiembre sobre el sentido y significado de lo ocurrido entre 1810 y 1821. La hipótesis es que las disensiones no tuvieron que ver tanto con la historia como con la memoria, expresión de dos proyectos de nación, cuyo enfrentamiento fue una de las claves de la vida política del primer México independiente.

Este trabalho objetiva realizar uma leitura crítica do filme Mãe!, dirigido por Darren Aronofsky e lançado nos Estados Unidos no ano de 2017. De maneira específica, visa problematizar como a narrativa fílmica reencena uma série de mitos da literatura universal, que se desenrolam na versão cinematográfica considerando o simbolismo do território da casa, a qual é compreendida como um universo particular que se relaciona com uma significação cósmica, por meio da qual passa a representar o próprio mundo. No desenvolvimento das nossas reflexões, recorremos aos estudos no campo da mitologia, a partir da leitura de teóricos como Mircea Eliade (2007) e Philip Freund (2008), e a respeito do simbolismo do centro, através das pesquisas de Raissa Cavalcanti (2008) e Chevalier e Gheerbrant (2009), para destacar as relações dialógicas entre o enredo de Mãe! e determinados arquétipos literários. Particularmente, aprofundamos, ainda, a abordagem em torno das imagens da casa, realizando uma análise fenomenológica de seus lugares vitais com o auxílio teórico de Gaston Bachelard (2000), para demonstrar como no filme a arquitetura da morada se erige a partir de uma polaridade entre os espaços do alto e do subterrâneo.

Special attention is paid to the Rudolphine art and to the distinctive transformation of the theme of Cupid and Psyche at the court of the emperor. It deals with various changes in meaning of the iconography as it traveled through time, space, and different media and suggests diverse possible readings of works inspired by Apuleius's Golden Ass.

Este artículo examina las representaciones coloniales elaboradas por el escritor tradicionista chileno Enrique del Solar en su obra «El ermitaño de Potosí» (1875) para determinar cómo su proyecto converge y a la vez diverge del modelo palmista. Para ello, se describirán el contexto editorial de su escritura y sus relaciones intertextuales, y se analizarán las estrategias narrativas que distinguen su aproximación al pasado colonial frente al modelo palmista. Se concluye que la ficcionalización del pasado colonial se configura como un proceso de selección y conexión del pasado con el presente, cuyo sentido se vincula a proyectos político-culturales específicos.

En este artículo, que tiene como objetivo presentar el número (su sentido y su contenido), nos hacemos eco de la importancia de reivindicar el conocimiento teórico de la educación, apostando por reconectar con la obra de Freire como un autor clásico cuyo valor anida en la potencia de sus ideas, aún hoy.

In this paper, I present an argument that quantitative behavioural analysis can be used in zoosemiotic studies to advance the field of biosemiotics. The premise is that signs and signals form patterns in space and time, which can be measured and analysed mathematically. Whole organism sign processing is an important component of the semiosphere, with individual organisms in their Umwelten deriving signs from, and contributing to, the semiosphere, and vice versa. Moreover, there is a wealth of data available in the traditional ethology literature which can be reinterpreted semiotically and drawn together to make a cohesive biosemiotic whole. For example, isolated signals, such as structural elements of birdsong, are attributed meaning by an interpreter, thus generating new ideas and hypotheses in both biology and semiotics. Furthermore, animal behaviour science has developed numerous test paradigms that with careful adaptation, could be suitable for use within a Peircean tripartite model, and thus give valuable insights into Umwelten of other species. In my conclusion, I suggest that by bringing together traditional ethology and biosemiotics, it is possible to use the Modern Synthesis to provide context to biosemiosis, thus pragmatic meaning to animal signals. On this basis, I propose updating the Modern Synthesis to a Semiotic Modern Synthesis, which focuses on whole-organism signals and their contexts, the latter being derived from neo-Darwinian theory and the ‘Umwelt’. Thus, there need be no dichotomy; the Modern Synthesis can successfully be integrated with biosemiotics.

The Temple of Solomon, in the city of Sao Paulo, surprises for its giant size and pharaonic luxury. It is also surprising for the large number of believers it attracts to its rituals. This article aims to place this architectural sign, its temporality, its references, its discourses, and its symbols under the scrutiny of C. S. Peirce’s semiotics. This theory works here as a cognitive cartography capable of guiding the understanding of the complexity involved by the sign Temple of Solomon. The most important, however, is that the complexity of this sign derives from the hypercomplexity of its field of millenary historical references, a kind of field that semiotically functions as the object of the sign. To that extent, this article proceeds on a historic journey towards collecting the density of this field, namely, what, in semiotics, is called collateral experience with the object of the sign. As a result, this analysis aims to be able to guide the reader towards the understanding of the layers of meaning that overlap in the constitution of this complex sign Temple of Solomon.

This article examines the media representation of Kobe Bryant’s life in the media and his meaning as a global sign, both in France and the USA. It analyzes the representation of Bryant in French magazine 5 Majeur to highlight the specificities of the French media coverage of the NBA. In doing so, this article reconsiders Kobe Bryant’s story, its meaning to people in the USA and France, but also what it shows about evolving societal communications.

This article analyzes the narrative devices that characterize the plot of Robinson Crusoe, a novel published in 1719 and considered one of the founding texts of modern fiction. The examination of the strategies of authorship dissimulation, which considers the 18th century reception of the three works related to the character, allows to investigate the relations between narration and fictionality in the texts written by Daniel Defoe. The analysis of these constitutive elements of the novel as a literary genre related to books suggests a history of literature interested in the effects produced by editorial devices and in the different strategies of meaning attribution enhanced by the broadening of the scope of criticism from the 18th century on.

Title: Semiotics to Comprehend The Change in The Meaning of An Ornament Semiotics is the science of a sign that consists of the structure of the signifier and the signified. As a medium of communication, a sign serves as a stand of something else or represents an expression message from the maker or owner to another party (interpretant) to be able to read. (Peirce, 1986 as cited in Chandler, 2007). Ornamental architecture is a work of art as a sign that is a medium of communication to viewers or related parties, which contains meaning that is not yet known or understood. The unknown meaning is caused by several types (1. decoration of new creations; 2. historical breakdown; 3. transfer of context; 4. correction of meaning due to discrepancies). Given that ornamental architecture is a sign of a grammatical "text", it is possible to interpret it using the same scientific approach of signs. Presumably, semiotics is deemed appropriate even though the results of the interpretation are not absolute. The accuracy and experience (object, location, specific time) of the sign interpretant greatly determine the result of the meaning of the sign, besides the influence of the possible socio-cultural, economic, political, religious, technological background factors, typical forms, masses and evaluators. The success in interpreting the sign proportionally becomes a reference in behaving or acting or placing ornamental architecture more proportionally. This is where the role of semiotics is very helpful in interpreting the sign of ornamental architecture as a basis for further action. Therefore, all things around that are signs related to our lives can always be treated appropriately.

The aim of the paper is to reconstruct the main premises of the notion of “homeland” as analyzed by Kurt Stavenhagen, the significant Latvian-German philosopher of the first half of the twentieth century. The paper points out the differences in Stavenhagen’s approach to the notion of homeland between the first and second edition of his study, Heimat als Grundlage menschlicher Existenz (Homeland as the Basis of Human Existence) from 1939 and Heimat als Lebenssinn (Homeland as the Meaning of Life) from 1948. The paper informs about the biographical and political background of Stavenhagen’s analysis and argues that his philosophical thought belongs to the so-called phenomenological movement. The thesis of the paper is that Stavenhagen’s definition of the homeland as a kind of community presupposes Ferdinand Tonnies’ distinction between community and society, which was fundamental for German sociology of that time. The author argues that Stavenhagen follows Max Scheler’s ideological misinterpretation of Tonnies’ distinction in his “war writings” in that he contrasts two types of sociality: authentic and unauthentic. These types are characteristic for German and Anglo-American social relations, respectively. In this light, Stavenhagen’s analysis turns out to be not so much a phenomenology but rather a mythology of the homeland. In reference to Leszek Kolakowski’s book The Presence of Myth (1984), the paper presents the need for answering to the “phenomenon of the indifference of the world” as a proper meaning of Stavenhagen’s mythology.

O objetivo deste artigo é o de realizar um balanço crítico das interpretações acerca do significado, do lugar e da função do conceito de democracia racial no pensamento do sociólogo Alberto Guerreiro Ramos. Partindo do levantamento crítico de alguns comentadores (Marcos Chor Maio, Antonio Sérgio Alfredo Guimarães, Muryatan Santana Barbosa e Luiz Augusto Campos), pretendemos mostrar que o conceito de democracia racial foi apropriado da intelectualidade acadêmica pelos intelectuais militantes negros dos anos de 1940 e 1950 e transformado em: a) um projeto político e social de integração das populações negras à estrutura social competitiva em emergência; e b) numa terapêutica das subjetividades colonizadas a partir da estética da negritude. Por fim, faremos uma síntese das continuidades e rupturas entre a democracia racial segundo seus intérpretes tradicionais e conforme os militantes negros dos anos de 1940 e 1950, sobretudo a partir da obra de Guerreiro Ramos.

La instauración del Premio Hispanoamericano de Poesía para Niños en 2004; la publicación de Digo de noche un gato de María Baranda (2006), y Hago de voz un cuerpo (2007, antología dirigida por Baranda) marcan el comienzo de una poesía de gran calidad literaria para niños. Actualmente hay una tendencia de libros de poemas para la infancia que cuentan con un hilo narrativo y cuyas voces poéticas y/o protagonistas son niñas. Éstas utilizan “palabras” para empoderarse. “Palabras” que buscan crear una nueva realidad, conjuros o frases conocidas a las que se les cambia una o algunas palabras y se transforma completamente su significado. Este mensaje de protagonistas valientes por supuesto que llega a las niñas lectoras.

Tulisan ini bertujuan menyoroti makna denotasi dan konotasi pada tanda pada dilarang berpacaran yang terdapat di taman kota di Samarinda. Taman kota yang diambil adalah taman kota yangbersifat publik, ikonik dan berada dekat dengan fasilitas umum lainnya. Semiotika pendekatan Roland Barthes digunakan sebagai metode dalam analisis. Data diambil dengan melakukan wawancara ke pengunjung tiga taman kota dan pengamatan serta melalui sumber yang bersifat sekunder, sehingga diperoleh hasil : 1) taman kota sebagai bentuk dari ruang terbuka hijau (RTH) memiliki dua fungsi yaitu ekologis dan sosial 2) tanda dilarang berpacaran merupakan jenis semiotik kultural dan normatif.

En este artículo analizamos la teoría del fin de la historia de Francis Fukuyama y la contrastamos con la teoría del fin de la geografía de Fredric Jameson. Según Fukuyama, la caída de la Unión Soviética inicia el fin de la historia, en el sentido de que el liberalismo ha demostrado ser el «horizonte político insuperable de nuestro tiempo» (por decirlo con la famoso dictum de Jean-Paul Sartre). Esta tesis fue malinterpretada por Jean Baudrillard como si Fukuyama estuviera diciendo que, a partir de 1991, la historia hubiera entrado en una «huelga de acontecimientos». Contra esta malinterpretación, en este artículo argumentamos a favor de la teoría del fin de la historia de Jameson.

Frecuento y lidero grupos de artistas en los que se debatia sobre los ideales vanguardistas y, como miembro del Partido Comunista, organizo actividades culturales en zonas obreras. Estos anos fueron tambien los de su lanzamiento como escritor, tras obtener el prestigioso Premio Akutagawa. Un tema recurrente en sus relatos de entonces era el de la metamorfosis y por ello fue apodado por muchos el Kafka japones, si bien el reconocia otras influencias. En este articulo analizamos uno de estos relatos de metamorfosis para indagar en la significacion de este motivo tematico, que consideramos la sintesis de las dos vanguardias, la artistica y la politica, que Abe entendia como inseparables. EnglishAbe Kōbō was one the most renowned writers of Japanese postwar literature and, like many of his contemporaries, was interested in avant-garde arts and communism. Abe used to frequent and, even led, groups of artists that discussed avant-garde ideals and, as a member of the Communist Party, he organized cultural activities in working class areas. It was also in those years when his career as a writer began after winning the prestigious Akutagawa prize. Metamorphosis was a recurring topic in his short stories of that time and that is the reason why he was called the Japanese Kafka, although he recognized different influences. In this article we analyze one of his metamorphosis short stories to think about the meaning of this topic, that we consider to be the synthesis of both avant-gardes, the artistic and the political, that Abe understood as a whole.

The main purpose of this article is to shed light on the particularly obscure 17th strophe of “Les Collines”, the important poem by Apollinaire which was originally published in Calligrammes (1918). How should the meaning of «…un talisman | Mort et plus subtil que la vie» be interpreted? The hypothesis of an allusion to Christian religion has been proposed (Schleifenbaum, 1972). While such conjecture cannot be completely excluded, other probative arguments based on the specific context of the poem and, more generally, on Apollinaire’s aesthetics suggest that the allusion rather concerns the rhymeless strophic form adopted for “Les Collines” mainly as a “calligrammatic” image: it is the strophic form imitating the quintil d’octosyllabes which is so relevant in the poet’s work. This is further demonstrated and confirmed by the fact that Apollinaire calls “talisman” a quatrain sent to him in 1915 by his “marraine”.

A través de la identificación y revisión de citas y alusiones a obras y autores de la Antigüedad Clásica grecorromana en el periódico Mercurio Peruano (1791-1795), el artículo parte desde una aproximacióndada por la historia de la lectura y los estudios de Recepción Clásica, para analizar los modos de aproximación y niveles de lectura que la sociedad letrada de Perú, a fines del siglo XVIII, pudo haber desarrollado para entrar en contacto y diálogo con la cultura clásica. El estudio se contextualiza medianteun análisis de los títulos de obras clásicas y sobre el mundo antiguo que pudieron circular en los ámbitos letrados y por el sistema educacional del mundo colonial. Con ello, demuestra que los autores y lectores del Mercurio Peruano tuvieron un conocimiento múltiple, dinámico y complejo de los autores clásicos y de sus obras, a los que se acercaron a través de lecturas directas, indirectas y medidas. De este modo, se apropiaron de ellos como voces de autoridad y como principios productores de sentido e identidad para la formulación y legitimación de sus propios discursos locales e ilustrados, dando cuenta de la vigencia de la cultura clásica antigua, para entonces, en el circuito letrado de la sociedad colonial.

The aim of this study is to observe the semantic values of the word silence in three authors: Giacomo Leopardi, Madame de Stael and Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand. In particular, the focus is on the oscillation of the meaning of the word between an euphoric and a dysphoric sense. This comparative perspective allows us to see if and how it is possible to talk about intertextual references and shows to what extent Leopardi thought of the two French authors while writing his Zibaldone and other works, such as his unfinshed (and not well-known) autobiography Vita abbozzata di Silvio Sarno.

Several novels George Sand wrote during the 1840s – when her political view was progressively becoming more radical – are centred on characters promoting a utopian socialist project without actually belonging to utopian fiction. This article intends to explore semantic scope and fictional use of some recurring narrational themes such as the “park”, the “dream” and the “convivial table”. These themes work as real literary topoi condensing and expressing a utopian meaning. By interweaving with commonplaces belonging to the utopian tradition, they renew them with respect to the emerging spiritual power ascribed to poets and in the light of the new romantic sensibility.

The purpose of this study is to describe the meaning of wabi-sabi that contained in the Tai-an tea room at Myokian Shrine, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The research of data is a video from the television program produced by NHK television station with a duration of five minutes named Hyouge Mono: Meihin Meiseki episode 7. The program features three sections of the tea room, there are nijiriguchi (the door), chashitsu (the tea room) and tokonoma (the alcove). This research used John Fiske's television semiotics theory which consists of three levels, the reality level, the representation level and the ideology level to find the codes that seen in the three sections. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The analysis of the reality and representation levels produces an ideology level in the form of a wabi-sabi philosophy represented by the zen aesthetic by Shinichi Hisamatsu. The results of this study indicate that in the Tai-an tea room contain several zen characteristics, there are kanso (simple), datsuzoku (free), fukinsei (asymmetric) and yugen (subtle). These characteristics represent simplicity, resignation, humility and tranquility in wabi-sabi and help to realize the concept of ichi go ichi e that aimed by Sen no Rikyu

After several mystical visions of the nun, Pelagia, the holy icon of the Annunciation of the Panagia (“the All-Holy One”, or the Virgin Mary) was found on the island of Tinos in 1823. According to tradition, Pelagia repeatedly witnessed the Panagia in her visions and received orders from her to find the icon and also to build her church. The icon was unearthed in the field where it had remained since the church, built on the ruins of a pagan temple, was destroyed in the tenth century. Two years before the icon was found, the Greek War of Independence broke out. The finding of the icon, the construction of the Church of the Annunciation of the Panagia, the enormous crowds of pilgrims, and the miracles worked by the icon, contributed to the outcome that the island was declared a sacred island, and Pelagia became sanctified. The ritual year of the miraculous icon on Tinos starts on 30 January with the festival dedicated to the Finding of the Holy Icon when the finding is ritually re-enacted, before it is carried in a procession repeating the first procession after the finding. After worshipping the tombs of the builders of the church, the celebration terminates with a popular ritual called the Phanarakia (lanterns), in which children are the main participants, running around in the streets of Tinos town while holding multicoloured lighted lamps, and singing hymns commemorating the finding of the holy icon. This article presents the festival and delves into its meaning and importance for the Greek people.

The article aims to analyze the use of afrofuturism by the Bahian singer Xenia Franca, through the analysis of her video clip Nave (2019). Trying to understand various meanings that emerge from the meaning of the black and transnational political-aesthetic movement from authors such as Dery and Tate (1994), Corbett (1994) and Eshun (2003), Womack (2013), we try to cross these references as possible continuities and audiovisual interpretations of the song. There is the understanding of Afrofuturism as a critical tool to racism and the perception of its manifestation in black arts as not only something of the contemporary. Also there is a concern about the suggestion that the singer follows a spatio-temporal connection woven by the crossroads of the black Atlantic, especially in the African Diaspora music.

Prevailing studies on silence and democracy, in spite of silence’s inherently ambiguous nature, focus on subscribing meaning(s) to silence. Such attempts of turning silence into speech, point to an adversary relationship between silence and democratic theory. First, this article conducts an onto-epistemological critique of democratic theory’s treatment of silence (as meaning). Second, it suggests that there are self-reflective analytical benefits for scholars of democratic theory should they broaden up their gaze from silence as meaning toward silence-as-doing. This article argues that this can be done by shifting the epistemological focus from interpreting possible meanings behind the nonvoters’ silence into analyzing the context and/of interpretations of silence as ambiguous. Third, to illustrate this, the article uses the 2018 name referendum in North Macedonia which shows how the speech-centered approach of democratic theory is utilized to serve political goals rather than reaching the democratic ideal of “everyone having a vo-ice/te.”

Dentro del canon literario peruano, el único poemario de Carlos Oquendo de Amat, 5 metro de poemas, tiene un lugar de particular importancia. Sin embargo, tal obra se mantuvo al margen durante mucho tiempo hasta que sería redescubierta por Mario Vargas Llosa, otorgándole la relevancia merecida dentro del derrotero lírico peruano. Por ello, en el presente trabajo se realiza un acercamiento a las primeras recepciones críticas a la obra del vate peruano, así como a trabajos mucho más extensos y elaborados. Asimismo, con base en los postulados filosóficos de Gustavo Bueno (1972), analizaremos e interpretaremos el poemario antes referido uniendo los aspectos formales y el contenido para revelar su significado; lo cual, a su vez, será relacionado con una postura crítica hacia la sociedad y el lugar del arte y el sujeto en él.

En esta perspectiva, se comienza por el libro Glas de 1974, donde se anunciaría el duelo por la muerte del sentido. Posteriormente, se profundizará en los fantasmas derridianos y la responsabilidad con los desaparecidos. En tercer lugar, emerge la figura del don, que abre al duelo hacia la espera infinita. Finalmente, y desde la lectura derridiana de los psicoanalistas Abraham y Török, se trabajará la figura de la “cripta” como falso inconsciente. Se concluye con una reflexión sobre Chile y los desaparecidos por la dictadura de Pinochet. This article focus on the event of mourning in the philosophy of Jacques Derrida. It begins, accordingly, with the 1974 book Glas, where Derrida announces his mourning for the death of meaning. The article then focus on the Derridean ghosts and the responsibility towards the missing. Thirdly, the figure of gift emerges, one that opens mourning towards the infinite hold. Endly, from the Derridean lecture of phsychoanalysts Abraham and Török, the figure of “crypt” will be presented as a false inconscious. It concludes with a reflection on Chile and the missing people by Pinochet’s dictatorship.

El presente ensayo toma a su cargo el análisis de dos textos con orígenes muy distintos. El primero, el cuento Los dos reyes y los dos laberintos del escritor argentino Jorge Luis Borges; el segundo, la letra de la canción Dime Store Mystery del cantautor neoyorquino Lou Reed. El análisis emplea instrumentos metodológicos provenientes de la semiótica francesa y, en específico, los aportes de la hipótesis tensiva, los cuales permiten una aproximación metódica a la función de la afectividad en el ámbito de la semiosis. A través de ambos discursos, la dicotomía entre lo divino y lo humano se impone como categoría semántica primigenia del universo de sentido, siendo la creencia el resorte fundamental de las variaciones de las magnitudes tensivas que afectan y transforman el cuerpo del actante.
