Healthcare, which is a semi-public good in many countries, has a significant tourism potential today. Citizens of the country; Due to many reasons such as economic conditions, quality and delivery of health services, they may go to different countries to receive health care instead of their own country. This situation further highlights the macroeconomic dimension of health expenditures made by states and private entrepreneurs. Although tourism means visitors coming to the country for holiday purposes, visitors coming for health purposes are also considered tourists and contribute to the development of the tourism sector. In this study, the general view of health tourism in Turkey is given, primarily by taking into account the revenues obtained from health tourism and the number of visitors entering the country for health tourism purposes. Afterwards, the impact of visitors coming to Türkiye to receive health services between the first quarter of 2002 and the fourth quarter of 2022 (2002Q1-2022Q4) on gross domestic product (growth) was examined. Toda-Yamamoto causality test was used to measure this effect. The findings revealed that there is no causality relationship from health tourism revenues to economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3. Does tourism source market structure affect international tourism demand for Antalya? A panel generalized method of moments analysis.

This paper calculates tourism source market structure indicators and investigates their impact on the international tourism demand for Antalya of Turkey. Tourism source market structure may influence tourism demand depending on its consequences regarding competitiveness and risk structure. To determine this influence, this paper estimates tourism demand functions within the framework of the two-stage system generalized method of moments (GMM). The tourism source market structure variables were calculated by considering the number of tourists by nationality and the estimations are based on the datasets of 37 source countries for 2001–2019 years. According to the calculated market structure indicators, the tourism source market concentrated in the early 2000s and diversified in the last years of the research period. Findings of the system GMM indicated that the tourism source market concentration boosts and diversification weakens the tourism demand for Antalya. In other words, tourism demand, which comes predominantly or intensively from a small number of countries, increases this demand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the five-year development plans implemented during the republican period on the tourism sector in Turkey. Although tourism revenues and the number of tourists in the five-year development plans implemented during the Republican Era have been in a continuous upward trend, Turkey has not fully achieved the targets set in the five-year development plans. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the development plans of Turkey during the Republican Era and to identify the frequently emphasized and under-emphasized targets. A mixed methodology was used in this study. Within the scope of the research, secondary data were collected from official institutions. These data were subjected to trend analysis, and the average number of tourists and tourism revenues were calculated for each five-year development plan period. In the second stage of the research, the development plans were analyzed through content analysis, and themes were identified. Create network maps and word clouds created. Finally, Chat GPT, an artificial intelligence modeling system, was asked questions about the future of the tourism sector in the Republic of Turkey. As a result, it was found that Turkey emphasizes "sustainability" the most in its fiveyear development plans. In addition, infrastructure, transportation and diversification of tourism opportunities are other themes emphasized in five-year development plans. However, it has been determined that targets such as technology, digitalization and artificial intelligence should be sufficiently emphasized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wars between nations have taken on a new dimension with the imposition of political and economic sanctions. Unlike the First and Second World Wars, as portrayed by political figures, the Third World War attempts to neutralize each other through economic sanctions. The most recent examples are the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States, the European Union, and other countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on Turkish imports of cereals from Ukraine and Russia. The conflict will have the greatest impact on Turkey in this chapter. This study examines the impact of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine on the Turkish economy using data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. According to the report, despite Turkey's reliance on Russia and Ukraine, the country's most significant advantage is that it is not dependent on raw material exports and has a broad product infrastructure. Established in 1946, and consisting of 191 member countries including Türkiye, UNESCO has recorded Emine Karadayı, from the Sarıkeçili Yoruks, in the "Living Human Treasures National Inventory of Turkey" prepared by the General Directorate of Research and Education of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in the field of natural dyeing and weaving. Emine Karadayı, born in 1965 in Mersin/Gülnar, is an illiterate but award-winning weaving and natural dyeing master who weaves sacks reflecting the cultural values of traditional Yoruk life. This study examined the sack weavings of Karadayı, an award-winner in the categories of weaving and natural dyeing within the scope of intangible cultural heritage, and the Sarıkeçili Yoruk life, which are at risk of disappearing. The motif, pattern, and composition applications of the weavings carry traces of Yoruk life and culture. The Yoruk lifestyle, culture, and handcrafts are at risk of extinction in recent years. In this study, sacks still in use in Yoruk life were examined in terms of pattern, color, and composition characteristics. The Sarıkeçili Yoruk have named a large portion of the sacks they use as Alaçuval. The sack weavings examined in this study have been grouped by names such as Topakyanışlı, kirmenli, koçboynuzlu, sandıklı, alaca, pıtraklı according to their patterns; flour sack, clothes sack, food sack according to their usage areas; and Wool, Coarse, and Black sack according to the materials used. This study aims to investigate the relationship between local host-tourist interaction, perceived service quality (PSQ), relationship quality (RQ), memorable tourism experience (MTE), and revisit intention in ecotourism based on social exchange theory. A questionnaire was sent through an online survey to the Iranian tourists who had chosen local accommodations in Iran, Iraq, and Turkey during the 2019–2020 and included both domestic and international destinations. A total of 406 valid questionnaires were obtained, and the proposed research model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that hedonic and functional interactions have a positive impact on RQ and PSQ. On the other hand, RQ and PSQ contribute significantly to memorable experiences and revisit intention. Drawing on a large sample of eco lodging guests, this paper sheds light on the relationships between host-tourist interaction and RQ and PSQ for motivating behavioral intentions like visiting again and memorable experience. This research aims to investigate the mission and vision statements published on the websites of five-star hotel businesses within the scope of impression management strategies. To achieve this, manual content analysis, which is a qualitative research method, was used to investigate the mission and vision statements shared on the websites of five-star hotels that hold a tourism operation certificate from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey. Document analysis was preferred as the data collection method in the research. The research universe consists of five-star hotels operating in Turkey. According to the research results, it can be stated that while 50.19% of the five-star hotels' vision statements reflect the strategy of "self-promotion," 47.50% of the mission statements reflect the strategy of "ingratiation." When evaluated in terms of illustrative and demonstrative strategies, it has been determined that the demonstrative strategy is more specific for both mission and vision statements. Recently, mobile applications have become an important tool in the development of products and services in tourism, as in other fields, and the number of studies on mobile applications is increasing. Camping and caravan tourism, which is in high demand, especially after the Covid 19 epidemic, offers a different experience to changing consumer preferences. The digitalization of camping and caravan tourism, which is a developing market, will be beneficial in terms of the sustainability of the market and its response to consumer demands. This study aims to reveal the current status of camping and caravan tourism mobile applications in Turkey and the expectations of visitors from mobile applications. First of all, user comments on camping caravan mobile applications were examined, and then interviews were conducted with 21 visitors staying in camp caravan facilities. The results of the study revealed that mobile applications for camping and caravan tourism should be developed within the framework of certain criteria, considering the local people and the environment in terms of content. 10. Financial analysis of Indonesian and Turkish tourism listed firms in Covid-19 outbreak.

COVID-19 outbreak is global disease that impact most of industries in the world. Tourism is one of industry shocked by COVID-19. Curfew policy and social distance caused most of tourism sector such as tourism, hotel, and restaurant were closed. The purpose of this study is to analyze financial statement of tourism industries in Indonesia and Türkiye using financial ratio analysis. We employ financial analysis of credit (risk) analysis and profitability analysis during lockdown. We employ 27 financial statements of tourism firms in both countries in 2020. Based on the result, we found that profitability ratio that have significant differences in both countries such as ROA, ROE, and net margin. Although other measurement such as, current asset ratio, quick ratio, asset turn over, debt to equity ratio, and short term debt to equity ratio have no significant. The result informs that tourism of listed firms in Indonesia and Türkiye have significantly difference in profitability ratio. However, capability of managing liquidity, utilizing asset and managing capital structure and solvency has no significant difference. The result implies that tourism industries both in Indonesia and Türkiye have similar issues in liquidity, utilizing asset, and solvency, because they have to face diminishing income during COVID-19. In this study, information will be explored that will contribute to increasing tourism income in destinations with low tourist expenditure per person. For this purpose, the souvenir expenditure of tourists in Turkey is examined. Souvenir stores in Sultanahmet and the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul were investigated using a qualitative case study research design. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 souvenir sellers and 778 online comments of tourists shopping in souvenir stores were analyzed by netnography. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the efforts made to transform products based on the natural, historical and cultural richness of Turkey into brands, and thus increase local product diversity, play a critical role in increasing souvenir expenditure. On the other hand, the importance of the selection of high spending tourists as the target market and increasing the employment of qualified workers in the tourism sector has emerged. In this research, competition and positioning strategies of accommodation enterprises in winter tourism destinations are examined. In the research, it is aimed to contribute to the enterprises in terms of determining the competition and positioning strategies implemented by the enterprises against their competitors and increasing their competitiveness. The development of winter tourism in Turkey and the development of competition and positioning strategies of enterprises in order to take place in the international market constitute the importance of the study. Semi-structured interview questions were directed to 21 senior accommodation business managers engaged in winter tourism activities in Turkey. In the analysis part of the study, descriptive analysis method was used. The codes and themes of the texts, which were pre-read for data analysis, were created with the MAXQDDA 2020 program and then analysed. As a data collection tool an interview form is composed and by using Michael E. Porter's "Diamond model" and "three genetic strategies". It is among the results obtained that infrastructure and superstructure investments are insufficient in winter tourism destinations, strategies are not developed to expand the market share and open to the foreign market, and the use of information resources is insufficient in small accommodation enterprises. The obtained results reveal the necessity of giving importance to the positioning strategies of the enterprises, going the way of product/service differentiation, developing market segmentation strategies and choosing the target customer group correctly. In this research, it is aimed to compare the accessibility of the information on the web sites and learning outcomes subject to accreditation on the websites of Tourism Management Departments that were not accredited by the Tourism Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council (TURAK) in 2022 in Turkey, but had the highest score in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS).. In this context, the "Program Learning Outcomes" criterion, which is the third criterion among the determined to be accredited within the research dates, was taken into consideration when evaluating the curricula of tourism management departments of 7 tourism faculties affiliated to 7 different universities (February-June 2022) TURAK's criteria for evaluating higher education tourism programs. The top three non-accredited state colleges, which are the ones that students like most based on criteria with the highest scores, were identified in order to allow for comparison. Ten departments of tourist management in all were examined. Within the scope of the study, document analysis approach, one of the qualitative research designs, was used to conduct situation analysis. In this context, when the curricula and learning outcomes of accredited programs are examined, it is seen that the education/training and research/development infrastructure has been improved and has become more productive and more professional. However, it has been understood that accredited tourism management programs do not change the preference rates. Finally, when the web pages of accredited programs and non-accredited programs are compared, it has been concluded that the web pages of accredited programs are designed in a simple and accessible way, and that the relevant information is found where it should be, compared to non-accredited programs. Along with the development of technology in recent years, artificial intelligence (machine learning) techniques that perform operations, such as learning, classification, association, optimization, and prediction, have started to be used on data on real estate according to the criteria affecting the value. Using artificial intelligence (machine learning) techniques, valuation processes are performed objectively and scientifically. In this study, machine learning techniques were employed to balance the real estate market, affected by the tourism sector in Alanya district of Antalya province, Turkey, and examine changes in value objectively and scientifically. First, the criteria affecting the real estate value were determined as structural and spatial, and data on real estate were obtained from the online real estate website. Then, the values of the real estate in the selected application area were predicted using machine learning algorithms (k-nearest neighbors, random forest, and support vector machines). Unlike studies in the literature, algorithm-based valuation using machine learning algorithms was performed instead of mathematical modeling. When analyzed for performance metrics, the best result was achieved with the support vector machines algorithm (0.73). Objective methods should be used to balance the exorbitant differences between real estate values, to regulate market conditions and to carry out a real estate valuation process free from speculative effects in coastal areas where tourism factor is effective. Along with other international players such as China, India, or Russia, Turkey decided to increase its economic engagement with Africa starting more than a decade ago, around the time when the current ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) came to power. At the same time, it has been enhancing its soft power by building infrastructure, increasing its military presence, becoming visible in humanitarian aid, and exporting cultural products. This country’s penetration and involvement in local African life have been controversial in terms of international politics, and its media products could be one of the essential strategies to change the dominant Western narratives. This research is based on the assertion that, through Turkish TV series, Turkish soft power creates a perception of Turkey in African countries and argues that those that have been aired on that continent have a political effect on people. To achieve the objectives proposed in this study, an in-depth interview method was used to collect data, taking into consideration information, cultural characteristics, and experiences within an ethnographic approach. In this context, we interviewed people who live in Mozambique, Kenya, and Senegal, where relations with Turkey have especially strengthened in the last 10 years, and who regularly watch Turkish TV series. This study asserts that Turkish TV series play an important role in the way Turkey is perceived in the African countries in which they are consumed but also serve, in a positive way, as a key information source regarding the country’s image. Gastronomy and gastronomic products have been used more widely in the marketing of destinations in recent years. Local cuisine, food culture and gastronomic identity of a city can attract local and foreign visitors to the city. Thus, destinations are recognized, differentiated and on the way to branding. Turkey is a country where different cultures live together and each city has its own unique cuisine. The city of Izmir, as a result of hosting different cultures throughout its history, has had a unique cuisine and is the third largest city in Turkey in terms of population. It is a very convenient and attractive destination in terms of gastronomy and gastronomy tourism. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of gastronomy tourism on destination branding with the case of Izmir. For this purpose, in this study, a supply-side stakeholder analysis was carried out with semi-structured interviews, which is one of the qualitative research techniques. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis. As a result of the research, the effect of gastronomy tourism on the branding of İzmir destination has been proven, but it has been revealed that this effect is not sufficient and strong in İzmir today. Today, it is seen that there is an increase in the elderly population, which is defined as the third age, in developed countries, especially in many countries in the European continent, and all over the world. It is estimated that the elderly population will reach 2 billion in 2050. The reasons such as the availability of leisure time and the appropriateness of their economic welfare level of these people over the age of 65, who have terminated their active working life, enable them to participate more in tourism activities. Understanding the importance of many activities such as spa-wellness and thermal activities, which are important for human health in tourism, increases the interest of people in the third age group to these activities. Aware of this situation, many countries regulate their insurance systems and implement policies that support the participation of the elderly population in tourism. This situation causes the growth of the third age tourism market. This situation creates an important opportunity especially for countries with thermal tourism opportunities. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to evaluate the potential situation of third age tourism in the world and to evaluate what Turkey should do to benefit from this tourism market in terms of thermal tourism. For this purpose, the statistical data of the tourists participating in thermal tourism to Turkey have been reached and it has been observed that especially from Northern European countries. Online tourist reviews are widely used to identify and evaluate a wide variety of tourism-related products and services. Sustainable products and green services for all industries and workplaces; with the increasing environmental awareness, it has started to be applied in the most beneficial way for the society. The aim of this research is to determine how tourists evaluate green practices by examining the user comments on the TripAdvisor web site of the accommodation establishments in Turkey, which are evaluated by applying for the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certificate issued by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The basis of the study is to investigate the effect of LEED certification criteria and the perception of quality rather than determining tourist satisfaction. Content analysis and document review techniques were used in the research. 25 accommodation businesses that have applied for LEED certificate until April 2, 2022 constitute the universe of the research. 5 businesses could not be analyzed as they are not yet operational. WebHarvy Web Scraping Software and MAXQDA 2021 programs were used in the data collection process of the research. As a result of the content analysis, the main and sub-themes were formed by examining 10,954 tourist reviews of 20 accommodation businesses that have certificates and whose certificate applications have not been finalized yet. In accommodation establishments that apply LEED certification criteria; how energy saving practices, environmentally friendly designs and green services are perceived by tourists has been revealed. The "green hotel perception" of tourists was investigated by analyzing online tourist reviews about accommodation establishments through content analysis. The results reveal how accommodation businesses should implement a quality, qualified and environmentalist approach. Exploratory Spatial Analysis Techniques (ESDA) have become popular to identify the spatial association of different variables in many fields of natural and social sciences. The application of Global Moran's I statistics enables us to provide visual insights of spatial data. It helps to detect spatial patterns and hotspots of an activity or process, based on spatial autocorrelation. This study aims to investigate the spatial dependence of domestic and inbound tourist arrivals to 123 cities of all eight provinces of the Aegean Region of Turkey. For analysis, city-level data about domestic and inbound tourist arrivals during 2015–2019 is collected from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and is converted to logarithm form to avoid any skewness. The Arc GIS and GeoDa programs are employed for the analysis of spatial autocorrelation and visualization of hotspots of tourist flows in the regions. The results of the study reveal that tourist flows in the region are concentrated in the coastal areas, while inland cities receive an insufficient number of tourists. The hotspots of tourist flow are located mostly in the coastal towns of the provinces of Izmir, Aydın, and Muğla. The study is significant in the provision of useful information regarding resource allocation to the tourism hotspots and the implication of sustainable tourism policy to better utilization of tourism potential. This study has two purposes. Firstly, it aims to identify models that best estimate tourism demand. Secondly, it also aims to estimate the demand of Spanish tourists who visit Cappadocia, by using the identified proper models. As international tourism demand continually grows, the importance and magnitude of the tourism sector for the economies of the countries increase. In order to take into account the tourism demand, countries need to be prepared and therefore they want to know about the future demand. However, it is not always possible to know the actual demand and one can only make forecasts in such cases. This paper deals with forecasting international tourism demand, specifically focusing on the Spanish tourist visits in Cappadocia region of Turkey. In accordance with this aim, eight forecasting models are used. The results of the analyses for each model are obtained and the forecasting accuracy examined. It is seen that the Artificial Neural Networks and the Multiple Regression Model outperforms the other models. Finally, limitations of the study and future resarch directions are discussed. While capitalism seized domination around the world, it divided nations into two separate poles, exploiters and exploited, and transformed almost all resources on earth from exploitation to natural resources into exploitation. According to the Dependency Theory, one of the most important elements of this exploitation emerges as the tourism sector today. Accordingly, Western central countries impose mass tourism, under their hegemony, while imposing mass tourism to underdeveloped and developing neighboring countries to reproduce their dependent positions. In this study, in order to reveal that encouraged what kind of advertising monitors tourism in Turkey, JollyTur and EtsTur travel agency of internet advertising which they have issued during the year 2019 were analyzed by quantitative content analysis method. In the analysis made, it was found that both travel agencies place massive advertising on the theme of mass tourism, they limit their understanding of tourism almost entirely to the sea-sand-sun trio and ignore cultural tourism. It is concluded that the travel agencies mentioned through the visual and textual repetitions of the categories determined for analysis restrict cultural tourism to the main location and activity and encourage the audience to mass tourism. Over the last three decades, we have widely witnessed the peculiar relationship between tourism and incidents of political instability. Responding to the urgent call for additional empirical inquiries, we conducted an econometric study, using the VAR-EGARCH-DCC model, on the regional tourism interdependency (volatility) between four Eastern Mediterranean countries, namely Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Israel. Monthly arrival data from 1987 to 2012, along with a series of political instability variables collected from machine-coded databases, were utilized to model effects and to add empirical substance to contemporary and emerging theories. Our findings are relevant to industry stakeholders in that they explore tourism demand and volatilities. The findings indicate a positive effect on tourism demand in the presence of verbal or material cooperation between a destination country and others. In contrast, when investigating verbal conflict between a destination country and others, our findings reveal a negative impact on tourist arrivals and an increase in volatility in the destination country. Finally, in our investigation of incidents of material conflict, we saw a strong negative impact on tourist arrivals in all four destinations, accompanied by a significant increase in volatility. Purpose of this research is to compare provincial and regional tourism master plans prepared by various institutions in Turkey. Tourism master plans prepared under governorates coordinated by provincial directorate of culture and tourism formed the data source. In data analysis, content of master plans was analyzed by using descriptive analysis method according to World Tourism Organization National and Regional Tourism Planning criteria. According to data obtained, it was revealed that national tourism master plans have had some omissions compared with international criteria. In particular, it was determined that there have been many problems in such issues as expert team, destination carrying capacity, economic depressive aspects of the region to be planned, shelter opportunities of tourism sector employees, analysis of global, domestic and regional tourism patterns and trends. The Esendere Customs Gate, which is located on the eastern part of the Eastern Anatolia Region in Turkey, is in an important location not only in geopolitical and geostrategic terms but also in commercial terms. The commercial functions of Esendere Customs Gate directly or indirectly caused changes in the settlements under customs gate sphere of influence. Due to the terror problem, which was also one of the border problems experienced in the past, the commercial activities on the customs gate almost came to a halt. However, today, termination of all these problems played a positive and important role in the revival of social, political, and economic structures in the region. Through qualitative improvements on this international customs gate, which has important economic contributions to both Turkey and Iran, it was attempted to increase its economic income and the quality of the service provided. The research area gains more importance owing to its location that is close to particularly the sites that are attractive in terms of tourism, and since it contributes to the improvement of the relations between the two countries. In this study, it was attempted to evaluate the geographical location of the Esendere Customs Gate, which is of importance for Turkey and Iran, its significance for the Eastern Anatolia Region, and accordingly, its importance in economic, social, and political terms. Gumushane is located on the transition route from Eastern Anatolia Region to Eastern Black Sea Region. Due to its social, cultural and ecological diversity depending on its geographical position, Gumushane allows a wide variety of tourism types to develop. One of these tourism types is eco-tourism. Gumushane, which has a combination of climate and geographical features of Eastern Anatolia and Eastern Black Sea Regions, has a rich ecological diversity. The evaluation of this richness in the scope of eco-tourism is very important in terms of social, cultural and economical development of the province. In this respect in the study; Gumushane's eco-tourism potential has been tried to be exposed based on to the actions and master plans made by the official authorities related to Gumushane, to the research reports, academic studies and also the information provided on the official website of the authorities such as Gumushane Governorate, General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks. As a result; Gumushane has been found to have an important eco-tourism potential with its protected areas, diversity of flora and fauna and geological/geomorphological richness. Today's competitive business sense employees are seen as an important factor in business success. The importance given to human resources in the hotels, which is evaluated within the scope of the service sectors is gradually increasing. One of the important issues that can be assessed in this scope is the perceptions and behavior of the hotel employees toward career. The purpose of this study is to reveal career strategies of employees of 4 and 5 star hotels, operate in Istanbul, and whether or not sectoral career prospects are influenced by these strategies. It is also aimed to present employees' career prospects and strategies are in relation with positive relational management. In this quantitative research, a survey was conducted with a total of 387 employees working in 4 and 5 star hotels operating in various regions of Istanbul which have Tourism Certificate. Results show that employees' career prospects affect their career strategies and these two variables are related with positive relational management. In addition to this, it is determined that demographical variables are related with career strategies. As a result of the survey conducted, it was found that employees had an effect on career strategies of career prospects and these two variables were related to positive relational management. It was also found that the demographic variables of employees are related to career strategies. Further similar researches could be conducted in the hotels which serve different target group reveal the career prospects and strategies of hotel employees in Turkey. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzed tourism resources in Turkish cities. As part of research methodology, a content analysis of official tourism web sites of Turkish cities was conducted. Further, tourism officials in Turkish cities were surveyed to identify their descriptions of the cities they promote. Research results indicate that although Turkey is well-known for its summer destinations, most Turkish cities promote a variety of tourism resources including history, culture, thermal (hot-spa), nature and urban tourism resources. According to the results of content analysis, hot springs are promoted in 51 cities and 12 cities are promoted as thermal tourism destinations.
