Background: Seasonal agricultural workers working and living in inappropriate sanitary conditions are at great risk for public health. This study aimed to determine the relationships between the sociodemographic variables and life satisfaction of seasonal agricultural workers, and their knowledge, risk perception, and protective behaviors about the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, that included agricultural workers who are 18 years of age or older and worked seasonally in Yozgat, Turkey, during the period between August 2020 and October 2020. The well-being level was measured using the Personal Wellbeing Index-Adult form (PWIA). The data were collected using the face-to-face survey method and with 739 workers who voluntarily participated in the research. Results: All participants disclosed having insufficient information about Covid-19 and indicated their peers and television as their sources of information. The vast majority of the workers stated that they complied with the mask mandates, social distancing, and hand hygiene. No correlations were found between knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about Covid-19 and the level of wellbeing. The mean PWIA score of the workers was low (53.7) while they were mostly satisfied with their personal relationships (96.6) and health (76.1). The multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that being male (β = 0.245) and not having an ongoing health issue (β = 0.689) were associated with more PWIA; on the other hand, having more children (β = -0.52) was related to less PWIA. Conclusions: The well-being level of seasonal workers was lower while it was not associated with knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about Covid-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MOBILE genetic elements , *VANCOMYCIN resistance , *DRUG resistance in microorganisms , *ENTEROCOCCUS faecium , *SCIENCE databases , *HAND care & hygiene , *BACTERIOCINS - Abstract
Morbidity and mortality associated with antimicrobial resistance is a global public health problem. Vancomycinresistant Enterococcus faecium, which is frequently seen in healthcare-associated infections, is a Gram-positive cocci that the he World Health Organization has given high priority on its list of priority pathogens with antimicrobial resistance. Recently, the rate of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolation in invasive infections has been reported as 15.8% in Turkey. The main mechanism of resistance to vancomycin is alteration of the D-alanyl-D-alanine terminal molecule in the target region, and decreased affinity for the antibiotic. The van gene responsible for vancomycin resistance is either chromosomally encoded or acquired by mobile genetic elements such as plasmid and transposon. The main mechanism of its spread is that mobile genetic elements can be transferred within the same species or between different bacteria like Staphylococcus aereus. In this review, data, extracted by PubMed and Web of Science Databases searching with the terms "Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium", "Vancomycin resistance mechanisms", "vancomycin resistance in Gram-positive cocci" is summarized and briefly discussed with recommendations. Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of people towards COVID-19 and to evaluate compliance with practices such as social isolation, curfews, mask use and hand hygiene. Methodology: A month after the COVID-19 infection was observed in Turkey, a standard questionnaire link was sent to participants via the online questionnaire platform to determine the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of the public. The survey results of 503 people were evaluated. Results: During the COVID-19 pandemic 81.2% of the participants stayed at home, 79.1% of the participants wore a mask, 74% of the participants expressed to be following social distancing rules, 54.1% confirmed the use of hand sanitizers and 43.9% confirmed the use of gloves (43.9%), which are considered to be personal protective measures. The knowledge of terms such as 'quarantine' and 'isolation' was 94% and 97.4% respectively and 37.2% of the participants were of the opinion that the COVID-19 virus was produced in a laboratory environment. Within the research group, a rate of 65.6% of the participants found their own knowledge of COVID-19 to be sufficient. The participants found the announcements of official institutions more reliable than the announcements on television programs, the internet and social media. Conclusions: The public information on COVID-19 was found to be sufficient. In order to prevent the spreading of the pandemic, participants were partially compliant to rules such as staying at home, using masks, maintaining hand hygiene and social isolation. Compared to men, women's use of protective equipment was higher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Methods: In this study 270 of the 348 medical staff working in a 61-bed private hospital was observed. The informed observation was performed by the infection control committee in the entire hospital using "Five Moments for Hand Hygiene" for a period of one year. After the first six months, an improvement study was conducted together with the hospital's quality department using the plan-do-check-act cycle. The study was conducted in a private hospital in Istanbul/Turkey; Kadıkoy Florence Nightingale Hospital in 2014. Results: In the first six months of the year, 153 actions were observed at 316 proper situations. The compliance rate was 35%, 54% and 64% for the physicians, nurses and, other healthcare staff, respectively. The overall compliance rate was 48%. One hundred eighty-three actions were observed for 306 situations after the improvement and education studies. The compliance rate was 29%, 72% and 86%. The overall mean compliance rate was 60%. Conclusion: The promotion of hand hygiene requires the cooperation of the hospital administrators, infection control committee, and quality departments for better hand hygiene practices among the healthcare providers. FOOD safety , *HAND care & hygiene , *SECONDARY education , *FROZEN meat , *MALE employees , *PREPARED foods - Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate food handlers' knowledge regarding personal hygiene and food safety. A total of 200 food handlers from 30 independent food businesses in Kars, Turkey has been questioned in this survey. One (1) point was given for each correct response and zero (0) point for the false and "Do not know" answers. The questionnaires having 29 points were scored with 5. The knowledge of the respondents who got =3 was considered as adequate. Most of the participants were male (66.5%) and mainly under the age of 24 (42.5%) or between the age of 25-34 (33.5%). Nearly half of the participants (46.5%) had high school education (11 years). Only 25% of the workers who were mainly cooks declared that they had attended to a food safety training course. Seventy six percent of the respondents were waitress/waiter. Almost half (43%) of the food handlers got =2.9 (out of 5 points) point which indicated that they did not have adequate knowledge about personal hygiene and food safety. Male workers were more successful at the questionnaire while age had not a significant effect. Personal hygiene, cross-contamination, thawing frozen meat and reheating of foods were the sections in which the respondents gave false answers frequently. The knowledge of participants neither about food safety nor personal hygiene is enough to prepare or serve safe food. But it was observed that education level and attending training courses had a positive effect on responding questions correctly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
