Preservice teachers' self-regulation skills are key to being role models to their students in gaining this affective skill. The study aims to develop a structural equation model (SEM) that shows the relationship between preservice science teachers' perceived role modeling and self-regulation skills. This study has been conducted using the predictive correlational design, a quantitative research method. The sample of the study consists of 242 volunteer preservice science teachers from two state universities in Türkiye. Data were collected using the Perceived Role Models Scale and the Self-Regulation Scale for Science. The study used the SEM's model development strategy to determine whether a relationship exists between preservice science teachers' perceptions of role modeling and their self-regulation levels regarding science and whether the relationship if any is significant or not. As a result, a model was developed that shows preservice science teachers' perceived role modeling to predict their self-regulation skills in science significantly. This result shows role modeling to be important in developing preservice teachers' self-regulation skills. Therefore, we have concluded that self-regulation is an ongoing process at early ages and adulthood.

Ecological migration can be defined as the forced abandonment of the place where people live in order to continue their lives after the deterioration of the ecological balance for various reasons as a result of the negativities they have experienced. In this study, it was tried to determine the views of social studies teachers about migrations due to ecological reasons. There search was carried out with the voluntary participation of teachers working in Ankara, Istanbul, Eskisehir, Isparta, Kocaeli, Mersin, Ordu, Yozgat and Sinop. Descriptive analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. Interview questions were sent to teachers over the internet. Interview questions consist of open-ended questions. As a result of the data obtained, teachers found the subject of ecological migration inadequate in the social studies textbooks, that the subject was not directly mentioned in the program, that the knowledge, skills and behaviors that students would gain by teaching this subject would reduce environmental problems, and there were also reasons why people would have to leave their place of residence due to ecological reasons will be disappeared. When the related field is examined in the literature, a suggestion has been made to fill the gap in the field due to the lack of any study in the field of education on this subject.

This study aims to develop guidance materials on the topic of evaporation and boiling within the Science course, to use the materials with 5th grade students, and to find out the students' opinions about the implementation of these materials. The participants consist of 10 students studying in a public middle school in the 2020-2021 academic year. The development and implementation processes of the guidance materials are described in detail in the article. A semi-structured interview consisting of 5 questions was conducted with 5 students to get their opinions about the implementation process. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the interviews. The students expressed the view that the guidance materials were helpful in learning the topic, associating it with daily life, and increasing the teacher-student and student-student relationships. The researchers suggest that similar materials should be developed to teach different science topics.

Background/purpose: Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems seen in children and adolescents. Based on this general framework, the first aim of the study is to reveal the prevalence of trait anxiety among adolescents and to determine whether this prevalence differs according to their gender. The second aim is to reveal whether adolescents' ineffective coping styles with stress, friend loyalty, and gender predict trait anxiety. Materials/methods: Data were collected from a total of 531 adolescents (318 females; 213 males). State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Coping Strategies Scale in Stress Experiences, and the Friend Attachment Scale were used as data collection tools. Results: According to the findings, 18.3% of adolescents had a low level of anxiety, 65.2% were moderate, and 16.0% had a high level of anxiety. In terms of gender, 17.6% of females had a low level of anxiety, 62.3% were moderate, and 20.1% had a high level of anxiety. For the males, 18.3% had a low level of anxiety, 69.5% were moderate, and 11.3% had a high level of anxiety. This gender-based difference was shown to be significant. Another finding showed the adolescents' trait anxiety scores to be negatively correlated with friend attachment, and positive significant relationships revealed between ineffective coping styles. These variables and gender together explain 31.0% of the trait anxiety variance. Conclusion: The findings showed the trait anxiety of female adolescents to be higher than male adolescents. In addition, attention should be paid as to whether attachment to friends and ineffective coping methods with stress are used in research and treatment processes related to trait anxiety.

The aim of this research is to adapt the Delay of Gratification Inventory to a Turkish adult sample. The data for the study was obtained from adults over the age of 18 between April and May 2021. The "Personal Information Form," the "Delay of Gratification Inventory," the "Psychological Well-Being Scale," and the "Barratt Impulsivity Scale Short Form" were used to collect research data. In addition to construct validity and criterion-related validity in the validity assessment of the inventor, in the reliability evaluation, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency, test-retest, and lower-upper 27% group difference values were examined. In exploratory factor analysis, the measurement tool consists of five sub-dimensions, and these sub-dimensions explain 52% of the variance. The conclusion of the CFA show that the five sub-dimension structure obtained has a good fit (X[superscript 2] = 352.97 N = 265, sd = 184, p = 0.00; X[superscript 2] / df = 1.92, RMSEA = 0.059, CFI = 0.90, IFI = 0.90, GFI = 0.89 and AGFI = 0.86). In another validity study, it was found that delaying gratification was positively related to psychological wellbeing and negatively related to impulsivity. Within the framework of reliability, the Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficient of the whole inventory was found to be 0.78. The test-retest coefficient for the whole inventory was found to be 0.84. Findings at the end of the research indicate that the Turkish form of the measurement tool is at a level that can measure the delaying gratification variable in adults.

It was aimed to reveal whether there is a statistically significant relationship between the gender, age, sportive activity status and duration of the students studying at xxx University in the 2020-2021 academic year on their life skills levels. In this study descriptive survey method was used. A personal information form was used to obtain information about the demographic characteristics of 215 students, 71 male and 144 female and "Life Skills Scale" which was developed by Bolat and Balaman (2017) was used to determine the life skills levels, who participated in the study. Independent sample T test was used to determine the significant difference between two independent variables and life skills. Anowa Analysis of Variance techniques were used to determine the difference between more than two variables and life skills. Pearson correlation analysis was made to determine the relationship between Life Skills Scale and ages of students and duration of sports activities. The results were evaluated according to the p<0.05 significance level. It has been determined there is a significant difference in the sub-dimensions of coping with stress and emotions, empathy and self-awareness, decision making and problem solving about students gender and life skills scale according to the data obtained. It has been determined there is a significant difference in all sub-dimensions of the students' sportive activities and life skills scale. It has been determined there is a positive significant relationship in students' weekly sporting activity time and life skills scale on the sub-dimension of decision making and problem solving.

Background/purpose: Attitude towards the teaching profession functions as an important factor in the successful continuation of the education and training process. In this context, the first aim of the study is to examine teachers' attitudes towards teaching according to gender, education level, experience, and location of the school. Second, it is to reveal whether or not empathic tendency, teaching competence belief, and job satisfaction predict attitudes towards the teaching profession. Materials/methods: In this research, correlational research model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used. For these purposes, data were collected from 316 teachers with an average age of 40.34 (SD = 3.15) years old, of which 189 are female (59.8%) and 127 (40.2%) male. The Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession, Empathic Tendency Scale, Ohio Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Job Satisfaction Scale were used as the study's data collection tools. Results: According to the first findings obtained from the research, while teachers' attitudes towards teaching did not differ according to gender, education level (primary/secondary school), or school location (urban or rural); they were found to differ according to their length of experience. Accordingly, the attitudes of teachers with a seniority of more than 20 years were shown to be more positive than those with less experience. Second, empathic tendency, belief in teaching self-efficacy, and also job satisfaction were found to positively and significantly predict attitude towards the teaching profession. Conclusion: Within the framework of these findings, it can be said that gender, education level and school location are not determining variables in teachers' attitudes towards the teaching profession. On the other hand, it has been seen that work experience is important in the attitude towards the profession. Finally, it can be said that self-efficacy belief towards the teaching profession and job satisfaction are important variables in the attitude towards teaching. The obtained findings are then discussed, interpreted, and recommendations put forwards in light of the current literature.

Children are sensitive to their own and others' epistemic states and use these to guide their learning and communication. Here, we systematically examined children's use of epistemic states to make diagnostic social inferences. Specifically, we investigated children's group membership inferences based on what others do and do not know and what role children's own knowledge states and the type of knowledge play in these inferences. Across two preregistered studies, 7- and 8-year-old children (N = 100) were shown targets who were knowledgeable (Study 1) or ignorant (Study 2) of familiar and unfamiliar knowledge items that were either general or culture-specific and asked to guess whether the targets would be linguistic ingroup or outgroup members. Children inferred that the targets would speak their native language if they shared targets' epistemic states and a foreign language if they did not. Importantly, these patterns were particularly evident when epistemic states involved cultural knowledge. Further, children's inferences became more nuanced with age. These findings suggest that others' knowledge states are socially meaningful in childhood and children use their own and others' epistemic states in flexible ways to guide their diagnostic social judgments.

This article draws on a one-semester online programming course to determine the relationships between the types of feedback that students received and their programming performances. An explorative study was designed including both quantitative and qualitative data. Participants were 15 second-year students enrolled at an Information Technology department of a public university who received weekly programming problems as projects. The instructor provided various types of feedback (corrective, confirmatory, explanatory, diagnostic and expanded feedback) to the students via GitHub. The results showed that when the students who received corrective and explanatory feedback more, the programming performance scores were high. A strong positive relationship existed between a total amount of feedback with programming performance scores, also a number of times that students received explanatory feedback and programming performance scores. In addition, while the positive correlations existed between programming performance scores and the amount of all types of feedback, there was a weak correlation between the number of times that students received expanded feedback and programming performance scores. The difficulty of the programming projects, the needs of the participants and the affordances of the online learning environment played key role in the students' preference for receiving feedback type. Recommendations for future research and practice are included.

We developed and validated the Family Reminiscence Scale (FARS) in which adults rate their frequency of reminiscing with their parents about childhood experiences. In three studies, we characterized how FARS was related to adults' recollections of their earliest memories in different cultural contexts. First, we examined the factorial structure of FARS and obtained two factors of reminiscing: first-time events and general-recurrent events. In the second study, confirmatory factor analyses were conducted, in which we established measurement invariance across gender and age groups. In Study 3, we tested the factorial structure of FARS in an American sample to ensure cross-cultural invariance. We also showed that the two factors were differentially related to the phenomenology of earliest memories in samples from Turkey and United States (Study 2 & Study 3). Overall, FARS was found to be reliable and valid to measure for adult samples to assess the quality of the linguistic input during childhood. Predictive value of FARS has been shown across different gender, age, and culture groups, underlining the organizational role of the early communicative context in the phenomenology and linguistic style of adults' early memories.

The purpose of this research was to compare mental and physical practice on acquisition of basketball free shot. Forty inexperienced boys were selected randomly by a revised questionnaire of motor imagery-making of Hall and Martin (1977). They were divided into 2 groups; an experimental group and a control one. Group one carried out the whole practice sessions practically. Group two carried out the whole sessions regarding to the mental practice being achieved as internal imagery. The results showed that the mental practices have significant impact on acquisition of basketball free shot.

The main aim of this research was to reveal relationship between distress tolerance levels of university students according to different variables. The study sample consisted of 600 students in 2017-2018 academic years at Ataturk University in Erzurum, Turkey. In the study the "Distress Tolerance" Scale was conducted. It was developed by Simons et al. (2005) and its verification and validation in Turkish was conducted by Sargin et al (2012). SPSS 21 package program was used to analyze the data. In the analysis of data; frequency distribution was used in determination of demographic characteristics, the Independent Samples T test was used in examination of relationship between two independent variables and distress tolerance level, the one way ANOVA analysis test was used in examination of relationship between more than two variables and the distress tolerance levels. All these tests were analyzed in SPSS 21 package program and the significance was evaluated at p <0.05 level. According to the findings, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the students' distress tolerance levels and sports activity. It was observed that the students who were doing sports activities have higher distress tolerance level than those were not doing sportive activities. No significant difference was found between the distress tolerance level and gender, grade level and family structure. As a result of the fact that sports activities have a positive effect on the distress tolerance level, it is recommended that students be given opportunity to make different sports activities, by raising their awareness about the sports activity in order to increase the distress tolerance in learning process or the course of life However, it is also recommended to carry out studies to identify different variables that may have an impact on distress tolerance.

Curriculum adaptation portrays the way teachers 'tweak' the curriculum. The findings of related studies are based solely on qualitative data, and there is no instrument that can determine curriculum adaptation patterns. Based on this gap, the aim of this study is to develop the Curriculum Adaptation Patterns Scale (CAPS). After examining the qualitative studies, 113 draft items were created in eight adaptation patterns. Drawing on the experts and discussions, the dimensions and number of items were reduced. In the first pilot study (n = 322), a three-dimensional structure explaining 52% of the total variance was obtained. CAPS was re-applied on 361 teachers for confirmatory factor analysis and the fit indices corresponded to sufficient. The three emerging factors are named as 'omitting', 'extending' and 'replacing or revising'. The reliability coefficients for these factors are also adequate (0.87, 0.72 and 0.85, respectively). The analyses indicate that the CAPS can be used for examining teachers' curriculum adaptation patterns. Today, students are expected to access, analyse and synthesise information, and work cooperatively. Their learning environment, therefore, should be equipped with appropriate tools and materials, and teachers should have instructional abilities to use them effectively. This study aims to propose a model to improve teachers' instructional abilities through technology integration. To this end, data on variables that affect technology integration were collected from 600 teachers and analysed by using path analysis. The results revealed an acceptable fit between the model and the data. Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, attitude towards technology use in education, gender, frequency of computer use, seniority, duration of computer use, technical support, and individual innovativeness have direct or indirect effects on technology integration. The developed model can be considered original because it includes the variable of individual innovativeness. Based on the developed path model, some suggestions were presented to support the instructional abilities of teachers.

Museums are the most effective settings for life-wide learning used in arts education. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of use of museums for educational purposes on a Studio Art-painting-course. In this study designed according to case studies technique, one of the qualitative research methods, a semi-structured interview form was used to determine students' opinions on the learning process. The study group of the research was composed of sophomore students from the Division of Painting Education of the Department of Fine Arts Education at Bartin University. A museum trip took place in this four-week study, after which students were requested to draw some oil painting. Following the hands-on work, students were interviewed, and their drawings were collected. Data obtained from student interviews were put into a descriptive analysis, and they were arranged according to the specific theme of each. Oil paintings created by students as part of the study were interpreted descriptively by consulting experts, too. The results showed that students were really enjoyed attending a course in a museum, drawing right there. Students stated that they were attracted and got excited by different activities and learning environments in general and by attending a course in the museum, in particular. Considering data obtained from the interviews, the positive contribution reported by students was also reflected on their oil paint drawings, which were the practical component of the study.

The purpose of this study was to determine the overall effectiveness of conceptual change texts (CCTs) on academic achievement and to find out if effectiveness was related to some characteristics of the study. It followed up a Meta-analysis research approach. 42 published and unpublished studies, published between 1995 and 2010, and 42 experiment groups' effect sizes were tested in this study. The overall effect size for CCTs was calculated as 1.18. This is a large effect size according to Cohen's criteria. It was found that CCTs have been quite successful in promoting the students' academic success. However results showed that there was no publication bias in respect to publication status. Moreover, no statistically significant difference was found on the nature of assessment instrument, study origin, subject matter, type of instruction, school level, sample size, type of instrument, publication date and duration of treatment. Moreover statistically significant difference was found for instruction effect. The effects of the research results are discussed.

Objectives: To evaluate the incidence and severity of depression in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Materials and Methods: The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was administered to 74 patients with RP and 60 healthy controls. Biomicroscopic anterior segment and fundus examination, visual field, optical coherence tomography, and full-field electroretinography tests were performed in all cases. Variables were evaluated with bivariate, multiple linear, and ordinal logistic regression analyses. Results: The RP group included 40 (54%) male and 34 (46%) female patients, while the control group included 23 (38%) male and 37 (62%) female subjects. The patient group had a mean age of 39.20±12.4 years, median best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 0.10 decimal (1.0 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution [logMAR]; range, 1.3-0.7 logMAR), and median visual field mean deviation (MD) score of -28.00 decibels (dB) (range, -1.00 to -34.00 dB). The median BDI score was statistically significantly higher in the patient group (19 points) than in the control group (12 points) (p<0.001). Moderate to severe depression (BDI ≥20) was detected in 61% of patients, while this rate was 25% in healthy controls. BCVA and visual field MD values were identified as predictors of depression score and severity level. The patients' age and gender did not affect total depression score or severity. Conclusion: The prevalence and severity of depression were found to be higher in RP patients than in healthy controls. There was a significant relationship between the patient's functional vision tests and the frequency and severity of depression. Depression reduces the reliability of visual function tests and impairs patients' quality of life. Therefore, assessing mental health as well as functional tests is important in patients with RP. The present study investigated the relationship between pre-service science teachers' epistemological beliefs and perceptions of a constructivist learning environment. The Turkish version of Constructivist Learning Environment Survey and Schommer's Epistemological Belief Questionnaire were administered to 531 pre-service science teachers attending seven public universities in Turkey. For data analysis, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 20 program was used and correlation analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between the participants' epistemological beliefs and perceptions of a constructivist learning environment. Also, descriptive analysis was conducted to determine their epistemological beliefs and perceptions of a constructivist learning environment. The results showed that the more sophisticated epistemological beliefs the participants have, the more constructivist learning environments they prefer, and positive/negative relationships were found among subscales of the two scales. Moreover, the results revealed that pre-service science teachers have relatively sophisticated epistemological beliefs, and generally prefer more constructivist learning environments. The implications were discussed.

The study aims to examine the relationship between perceived self-efficacy in science teaching and disposition towards reflective thinking in pre-service science teachers based on different variables. For this purpose, the Perceived Self-efficacy Scale for Science Teaching and Disposition Towards Reflective Thinking Scale were conducted in 619 preservice science teachers attending four public universities in Turkey. The research results suggest a positive significant relationship between perceived self-efficacy in science teaching and disposition towards reflective thinking at medium-level. While perceived self-efficacy in science teaching did not have any significant difference in respect to gender, grade level, type of education, status of giving private lessons or type of high school, the difference based on the universities and sense of academic success of pre-service science teachers was found to be significant. Disposition towards reflective thinking is not significantly different based on grade, type of education, type of high school or status of giving private lesson, whereas significant differences are observed in respect to gender, universities and sense of academic success. A regression equation was devised for the variables that predict disposition towards reflective thinking. The implications were discussed.

The science teaching program in Turkey is restated with the effect of constructivist approach and science textbooks are prepared in accordance with this new program. Furthermore, reflective diaries using many techniques have started to be used in the teaching process. Reflective diaries have also started to be used in science education. The basic purpose of this research was to determine whether the use of reflective diaries changes eighth grade secondary school students' views towards the science course or not. The method used in this study was that of qualitative research. Also, phenomenology was used as the design of the study. Thirty eight students from a secondary school in Kayseri participated in this study. Data were collected by using document analysis and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed by using content analysis. Codes, themes, and categories were used during data analysis. The results were discussed by means of codes, themes, and categories. According to our findings, reflective diaries have changed participants' views towards the science course positively. It was observed that all participants achieved meaningful learning on the stages of mitotic division and the importance of this division for organisms. The implications were discussed.

The purpose of this study is to research the effects of traditional and web-assisted conceptual change texts for the subject of water chemistry on the success, conceptual errors and permanent learning of students. A total of 37 8th graders in a secondary school of Samsun participated in this study which had a random experimental design with pre-test and post-test groups. With the three-stage conceptual success test developed by the researchers, a pilot scheme was conducted with 103 participants (9th graders). As a result of this scheme, the test's validity and reliability was completed and traditional conceptual change texts based on the determinated conceptual errors were prepared. In addition, this test was applied to students as pre-test at the beginning of the study. Classical conceptual change texts that were prepared were taught with traditional methods in control group's lessons. On the other hand, traditional conceptual change texts were prepared web-assisted and the experimental group was taught by using web-assisted conceptual change texts. At the end of the study, three-stage conceptual success test was conducted on the sample again as post-test. The data collected was analyzed by using SPSS and Microsoft Office Excel 2007 package program. As a result of the study, it was found that conceptual change texts caused a decrease in the conceptual errors of students on the subject of water chemistry. This improvement was 65% for the experimental group and 14% for the control group. In addition, even after three months, this rate was 61% for the experimental group and 3,8 % for the control group. Web-assisted conceptual change texts were found to be more effective in the permanence of what is learned.

The aim of this study is to examine the change in the cognitive structures of elementary school students in respect to the concept of science through word association test in a constructivist approach based project. The study was conducted with 50 students attending to 6th and 7th grades. Students were applied a 90-minute activity in scope of the training on science, scientist and scientific knowledge under the project that lasted for 5 days. A word association test that included the concepts of science, scientific knowledge, scientific method, scientist, research, project, experiment and laboratory was applied at the beginning (pre-test) and at the end (post-test) of the project. A frequency table, which consists of concepts of word association test and response words, were prepared in data analysis. According to the obtained frequency table, concept networks that revealed the cognitive structures of students were drawn. Upon reviewing the frequency table of the pre-test and post-test of students, and the concept networks, it was observed that the cognitive structures in the relevant concepts of students changed positively. Accordingly, it was concluded that word association tests prove an effective method for revealing the cognitive structures of students. Study findings were discussed in comparison with the studies in the literature, and recommendations were given.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the professional development program on web based content development (WBCD) designed by the Ministry of National Education (MoNE). Based on the theoretical CIPP model by Stufflebeam and Guskey's levels of evaluation, the study was carried out as a case study. The study group consisted of the courses that opened in Izmir in the spring semester of 2009, in which 37 teachers and four trainers attended. Quantitative data for the study was collected by two separate questionnaire forms, while the qualitative data was gathered from focus group and individual interview forms. The quantitative data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics, while content analysis was applied to the qualitative data. The results of the study showed that the program had been designed without a needs analysis, that teachers were reluctant to implement the program, and that at the end of the program implementation, teachers had not managed to prepare web based instructional materials despite the fact that they had been included in the objectives of the program. In addition, it was found that teachers did not develop web based instructional materials for such reasons as the frequency of changes in curriculum, the ease of use of the existing/ready materials, and the perception of developing web based materials as a challenging task requiring expertise and team work. The study showed that the WBCD program could not meet its objectives, and the program was therefore found to be inadequate in encouraging teachers to integrate their instructions with technology. It was recommended that professional development programs like WBCD should be ongoing in all areas of the profession, rather than at particular periods of time.

OBJECTIVE: Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) screening is strongly recommended in the pre-transplant evaluation of solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients, although it remains inadequate in many transplant centers. We decided to investigate pre-transplant TB risk assessment, LTBI treatment, and registry rates in Türkiye. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Adult SOT recipients who underwent tuberculin skin test (TST) and/or interferon-gamma release test (IGRA) from 14 centers between 2015 and 2019 were included in the study. An induration of ≥5 mm on TST and/or probable/positive IGRA (QuantiFERON-TB) was considered positive for LTBI. Demographic features, LTBI screening and treatment, and pre-/post-transplant TB history were recorded from the electronic database of transplantation units across the country and pooled at a single center for a unified database. RESULTS: TST and/or IGRA were performed in 766 (33.8%) of 2266 screened patients most of whom were kidney transplant recipients (n = 485, 63.4%). LTBI screening test was positive in 359 (46.9%) patients, and isoniazid was given to 203 (56.5%) patients. Of the patients treated for LTBI, 112 (55.2%) were registered in the national registry, and 82 (73.2%) completed the treatment. Tuberculosis developed in 6 (1.06%) of 563 patients who were not offered LTBI treatment. CONCLUSION: We determined that overall, only one-third of SOT recipients in our country were evaluated in terms of TB risk, only 1 of the 2 SOT recipients with LTBI received treatment, and half were registered. Therefore, we want to emphasize the critical importance of pretransplant TB risk stratification and registration, guided by revised national guidelines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia worldwide and is associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism, ischemic stroke, impaired quality of life, and mortality. The latest research that shows the prevalence and incidence of AF patients in Türkiye was the Turkish Adults' Heart Disease and Risk Factors study, which included 3,450 patients and collected data until 2006/07. The Turkish Real Life Atrial Fibrillation in Clinical Practice (TRAFFIC) study is planned to present current prevalence data, reveal the reflection of new treatment and risk approaches in our country, and develop new prediction models in terms of outcomes. Methods: The TRAFFIC study is a national, prospective, multicenter, observational registry. The study aims to collect data from at least 1900 patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, with the participation of 40 centers from Türkiye. The following data will be collected from patients: baseline demographic characteristics, medical history, vital signs, symptoms of AF, ECG and echocardiographic findings, CHADS2-VASC2 and HAS-BLED (1-year risk of major bleeding) risk scores, interventional treatments, antithrombotic and antiarrhythmic medications, or other medications used by the patients. For patients who use warfarin, international normalized ratio levels will be monitored. Follow-up data will be collected at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. Primary endpoints are defined as systemic embolism or major safety endpoints (major bleeding, clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding, and minor bleeding as defined by the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis). The main secondary endpoints include major adverse cardiovascular events (systemic embolism, myocardial infarction, and cardiovascular death), all-cause mortality, and hospitalizations due to all causes or specific reasons. Results: The results of the 12-month follow-up of the study are planned to be shared by the end of 2023. Conclusion: The TRAFFIC study will reveal the prevalence and incidence, demographic characteristics, and risk profiles of AF patients in Türkiye. Additionally, it will provide insights into how current treatments are reflected in this population. Furthermore, risk prediction modeling and risk scoring can be conducted for patients with AF. Flashbulb memories (FBMs) refer to vivid and long-lasting autobiographical memories for the circumstances in which people learned of a shocking and consequential public event. A cross-national study across eleven countries aimed to investigate FBM formation following the first COVID-19 case news in each country and test the effect of pandemic-related variables on FBM. Participants had detailed memories of the date and others present when they heard the news, and had partially detailed memories of the place, activity, and news source. China had the highest FBM specificity. All countries considered the COVID-19 emergency as highly significant at both the individual and global level. The Classification and Regression Tree Analysis revealed that FBM specificity might be influenced by participants' age, subjective severity (assessment of COVID-19 impact in each country and relative to others), residing in an area with stringent COVID-19 protection measures, and expecting the pandemic effects. Hierarchical regression models demonstrated that age and subjective severity negatively predicted FBM specificity, whereas sex, pandemic impact expectedness, and rehearsal showed positive associations in the total sample. Subjective severity negatively affected FBM specificity in Turkey, whereas pandemic impact expectedness positively influenced FBM specificity in China and negatively in Denmark. The coronavirus disease has had a devastating impact on the airline industry worldwide. However, the cancellation of flights has also enormously reduced CO2 emissions in the air. The present study empirically explores the environmental impact of the sectoral lockdown within the EU28 and Turkey by leveraging the wavelet coherence transform (WCT) technique. The results revealed that there is a positive correlation between the number of passengers carried and CO2 emissions. In the short run, during the pandemic, there is a strong positive linkage between the number of passengers carried and CO2 emissions, while in the long run, there are also positive and meaningful relationships between the number of passengers carried and CO2 emissions between 2014 and 2022. The result also indicates that, on a quarterly basis, there was a sharp decline in CO2 emissions caused by the airline industry during the period of 2020–2021. The reverse effect was also detected, which has empirically validated the hypothesis that, during the pandemic, pollution in the atmosphere has declined because of the cancellation of flights. This confirms the hypothesis that there is positive feedback causality between passengers carried and CO2 emissions. This finding has also been supported in the existing energy literature. These outcomes have implications for environmental sustainability targets in the EU and Turkey, as the recovery of international passenger traffic will proceed at a very close pace. Objective: The aim was to evaluate autonomic dysfunction by investigating exercise time, the chronotropic index (CI), and heart rate recovery (HRR) during an exercise stress test (EST) in patients with primary adrenal insufficiency, also called Addison's disease (AD). Methods: Twenty-two patients with adrenal insufficiency and 25 healthy controls were included in this study. The data from the patients who underwent an EST were collected, analyzed, and reported. Results: The mean ages and genders of the patients with AD and the controls were insignificant. The baseline systolic and diastolic blood pressures (SBP and DBP) were significantly lower in the patients with AD compared to the controls before the EST. According to exercise-induced data, the SBP, DBP, and CI were insignificant for females and males between the groups. The exercise time, HRR1, and HRR2 were significantly decreased in the patients with AD compared to the controls. When the patients and controls were evaluated by gender, other than the HRR1 of the females, there were no differences between both genders. Additionally, a multiple logistic regression analysis showed that exercise time was independent and negatively related to the CI, HRR1, and HRR2 in the patients with AD. Conclusion: Exercise time and cardiac autonomic dysfunction in patients with AD may be related to mortality and morbidity. However, further studies and detailed analyses are needed on this subject. Objective: This study aims to investigate the effect of lengthening early postoperative hospitalization on post-tonsillectomy bleeding and retrospectively analyzes patients who were operated on for a recurrent tonsillitis diagnosis. Materials and Methods: The study includes a total of 92 patients who underwent a tonsillectomy for a recurrent tonsillitis diagnosis. The patients were divided into two groups: those discharged on postoperative day 1 (Group A), and those hospitalized for a more extended period (Group B). Both groups were compared in terms of bleeding after the tonsillectomy. Results: In both groups, none of the patients aged 15 or under presented with post-tonsillectomy bleeding. For patients over the age of 15, no re-admission to the hospital with postoperative bleeding occurred in Group B, while 10 patients (10.9%) from Group A presented with complaints of bleeding and were re-hospitalized. Conclusion: Extending the early hospitalization period to at least two days in tonsillectomies to be performed for recurrent tonsillitis, especially for late adolescents and adult patients, may reduce the likelihood of a revisit with post-tonsillectomy bleeding. Objective: Rare factor deficiencies are a group of autosomal recessive bleeding disorders (with the exception of dysfibrinogenemia), which are characterized by the deficiency or dysfunction of one or more coagulation factors (F)I, FII, FV, FV+FVIII, FVII, FX, FXI, FXII, and FXIII. Materials and Methods: 188 patients with a rare factor deficiency from seven distinct pediatric hematology centers in Turkey were obtained for the study. Results: 60 (31.9%) patients had a family history of bleeding. Consanguinity was detected in 85 patients (45.2%). 128 patients (68.1%) were symptomatic; the most common bleeding symptom was epistaxis (34.6%) and followed by the bleeding of skin (19.1%), oral cavity (16.1%), soft tissue (8%), central nervous system (CNS) (6.2%), uterine (4.9%), joint (3.7%), gastrointestinal system (GIS) (3.7%), and urinary system (US) (3.7%). The first bleeding sites consist of nose (39%), CNS (10.9%), oral cavity (10.9%), skin (10.9%), umbilical cord (10.2%), GIS (5.5%), US (5.5%), heel (4.7%), and musculoskeletal system (2.3%). CNS hemorrhage was the most common in fibrinogen (n:4), FVII (n:6), and FX (n:2) deficiency, umbilical cord bleeding was the most common in fibrinogen (n:3) and FXIII (n:7) deficiency, heel bleeding was frequently seen in fibrinogen (n:6) deficiency. The life-threatening bleedings were CNS (n:27, 77.1%), GIS (n:7, 20%), and iliopsoas (n:1, 2.9%), respectively. The reasons leading to the diagnosis were bleeding (57.4%), preoperative screening (15.4%), incidental (15.4%), family history (6.4%), and postoperative bleeding (5.3%). 2/5 FXII deficiency patients had mild bleeding symptoms. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant health problem that affects millions of people worldwide and its end-stage manifestation requires hemodialysis treatment, which can have a considerable impact on patients' mental health and quality of life. This study aims to examine the relationship between spirituality and anxiety, as well as spirituality and psychological resilience among hemodialysis patients using the iterative weighted least squares method. Participants included 91 hemodialysis patients, consisting of 49 females and 42 males, whose ages ranged from 20 to 82 years, with a mean age of 48 (SD = 14). The data were collected using the Beck Anxiety Inventory, Spirituality Scale, and Brief Psychological Resilience Scale. Results indicated a weak positive relationship between spirituality and psychological resilience (t = 1.35, P =.183) and a moderate negative relationship between spirituality and anxiety (t = −2.84, P =.006). Furthermore, spirituality accounted for a 1% variance in psychological resilience and a 5% of the variance in anxiety. Additionally, patients' education level, gender, and whom they live with were relatively stronger correlates of psychological resilience, while the patient's education level, gender, marital status, whom they live with, presence of another patient at home receiving hemodialysis treatment were strong correlates of anxiety. This study evaluates the relationship between academic risk taking and chemistry laboratory anxiety using a relational scanning model. The research sample consisted of 127 undergraduate students (sophomores, juniors and seniors) in the Chemistry Teaching Department at Dicle University. This research was done in the spring semester of the 2012 to 2013 academic year. The Chemistry Laboratory Anxiety Scale, developed by Bowen (1999) and adapted into Turkish by Azizoglu and Uzuntiryaki (2006), was used to measure students' levels of chemistry laboratory anxiety. The Scale of Academic Risk Taking, developed by Clifford (1991) and adapted into Turkish by Korkmaz (2002), was used to measure students' levels of academic risk taking. The relationship between chemistry laboratory anxiety and academic risk taking was examined using a structural regression model. It was found that academic risk taking explained 39% of the total variance in the chemistry laboratory anxiety scores. This study aims to contribute to the chemistry education literature and to guide chemistry teachers.

On August 4, 1958, a moratorium was declared in the Republic of Türkiye. Before the emergence of this fiscal event, initially it was abandoned from the liberalization policies. Then, the Democratic Party had to adopt an interventionist policy. Hence, the investments were realized by the public sector rather than the private sector. While imports became more profitable, this circumstance caused the depletion of foreign exchange reserves. In addition, inflation increased. In other words, the prices of goods and services exhibited a quite high increase. The common trait of such hitches was their expenditure-orientation. The circumstances in question implied a budget deficit. On the other hand, it was resorted to borrowing in order to meet the budget deficit. However, as borrowing couldn't be used efficiently, the phenomenon of bankruptcy arose. And the process in question mainly arose due to compromises made on concepts such as national sovereignty and full independence acquired in the Treaty of Lausanne. Accidental foreign body ingestion is a common health problem seen in childhood and adolescence all over the world. This single-center, retrospective, and descriptive study addressed the phenomenon of foreign body ingestion in the context of a specific patient population, i.e., the convicted patient population. To this end, convicted patients who applied to a tertiary hospital with the complaint of foreign body ingestion were investigated both in terms of health expenses and inappropriate use of limited labor resources. The study population consisted of 1381 patients who were treated for foreign body ingestion in the emergency department of the tertiary hospital where this study was conducted. Patients' data were obtained from the electronic health records system [SARUS]. Patients under 18, patients with a swallowed foreign body outside the gastrointestinal tract, and those who were operated on due to foreign body ingestion by otorhinolaryngology and thoracic surgery were excluded from the study. In the end, the study sample comprised 67 hospitalized patients with a mean age of 41.4 SD16.2 years, 70.2% [n = 47] were men. It was determined that the rate of those who were admitted three times for foreign body ingestion was higher in the convicted patient group [8%], whereas the rate of those who were admitted only once [92.9 %] was higher in the non-convicted patient group; however, the differences were not statistically significant. In conclusion, measures should be taken to reduce the means of convicted patients accessing objects that can be swallowed in the immediate environment, considering that they are subject to psychiatric disorders and recurrent hospitalizations more than non-convicted patients. Background: In this study, candida species isolated from clinical samples of patients treated in intensive care units and other inpatient clinics pre-pandemic period (PPP) (April 1, 2018-March 31, 2020) and patients treated in COVID-19 intensive care units and other inpatient clinics during the pandemic period (PP) (1 April 2020-31 March 2022) were retrospectively examined. It was aimed to describe the variation of candida species and their antifungal susceptibility in PP according to PPP and contribute to our country's epidemiological data. Materials and Methods: Conventional methods and VITEK 2 (Biomerieux, France) automated system were used to identify candida species and determine their antifungal susceptibility. Species identifications of non-Candida albicans isolates were confirmed by the MALDI-TOF MS (Bruker Daltonik GmbH, Bremen, Germany) automated system. Antifungal susceptibilities were evaluated using the VITEK 2 automated system and gradient test strips (BioMerieux E test, France). Results: Fungal strains were detected in 125 (2%) of the clinical samples that came to our laboratory in the pre-pandemic period, and in 157(2.9%) during the PP. The increase in Candida isolates was statistically significant (p=0.007). It was observed that the growth rates in urine culture, blood culture and aspirate cultures increased in PP compared to PPP. The mean age of patients with candida isolated in PP is 70.86±14.53. An increase in the rates of male patients was observed in PP compared to PPP. Compared to PPP, an increase was observed in C.parapsilosis, C.glabrata and C.tropicalis species, and a decrease in C.kefyr species in PP. C.ciferrii, C.dubliniensis, C.sphaerica and C.zeylanoides have been isolated only in PP. It was observed that the susceptibility of C. albicans to amphotericin B, anidulafungin and voriconazole decreased in PP, and the susceptibilities of fluconazole, flucytosine and micafungin were increased. C.albicans, C.glabrata, C.parapsilosis, C.tropicalis isolates were observed to have decreased sensitivity to amphotericin B, anidulafungin and caspofungin in PP compared to PPP. Conclusions: It has been observed that there is an increase in secondary candida infections due to the prolonged hospitalization period and high-level steroid use in COVID-19 patients compared to the PPP. Our data revealed an increase in non-C.albicans species, particularly in C.parapsilosis, C.glabrata and C.tropicalis species, in agreement with other similar studies reported. The decrease in echinocandin and amphotericin B susceptibility in candida species suggests the necessity of rational antifungal use. Updating and presenting the changes in Candida species and their antifungal susceptibility at regular intervals is important for clinicians' empirical antifungal treatment approach. Altitude is an important ecological factor that significantly affects essential oil content, yield and composition. In this study, conducted to examine the effects of altitude on essential oil content and composition of O. majorana, plant samples were collected from the southern region of Türkiye at the beginning of flowering period from seven different altitudes (766 m, 890 m, 968 m, 1079 m, 1180 m, 1261 m and 1387 m) at 100 m intervals. The highest percentage of essential oil (6.50%) obtained by hydro-distillation was determined at 766 m altitudes. The GC–MS analyses revealed that low altitude affected some essential oil components positively. The linalool ratio, which is the major component of the essential oil of O. majorana species, was the highest at 766 m (79.84%) altitudes. Borneol, linalool oxide, trans-linalool oxide, caryophyllene, a-humulene, germacrene-D and bicyclogermacrene components yielded high values at 890 m altitudes. Thymol and α-terpineol, which have an important place in the essential oil composition, increased at 1180 m altitudes; a-terpinene, cis-sabinene hydrate, terpinene-4-ol and carvacrol increased at 1387 m altitudes. Aims: This study aimed to compare the environmental impacts and diet qualities of popular diet models with the recommendations of the Turkish national dietary guidelines. Methods: Seven‐day isocaloric (8368 kJ) diet models were created taking into account the Mediterranean, Atkins (20/40/100), Ornish, Zone diets, and Turkey Dietary Guidelines‐2015 recommendations with different food and nutrient contents. Water footprints were evaluated using the global water footprint standards. Greenhouse gas emissions were evaluated using carbon footprint factors compiled as a result of meta‐analyses of life cycle analysis studies in the literature. In addition, the quality of diets was evaluated with the Diet Quality Index‐International. Results: Atkins20 diet model had the most harmful environmental impact (greenhouse gas emissions 8.74 kg CO2‐eq/per/day and total water footprint 7731 L/per/day), whereas Ornish and Mediterranean diet models (greenhouse gas emissions 2.2/3.07 kg CO2‐eq/per/day and total water footprints 3184/3675 L/per/day, respectively) had less harmful environmental impact. The highest Diet Quality Index‐International score was in the Ornish diet model while the lowest Diet Quality Index‐International was in the Atkins20 diet model. Conclusion: Ornish and Mediterranean diet models had less harmful environmental impacts, which contributed to sustainable nutrition. The importance of diet quality and environmental impacts should be kept in mind when evaluating diet models to ensure sustainable nutrition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
