Oscar-winner Hilary Swank and her husband, Chad Lowe signed a $7,000 a month lease, in December 2000, on a 2,500 square foot New York City duplex, with the understanding that significant improvements would be made. Soon after, the landlord set to work, renovating the kitchen, removing a skylight and adding a rooftop gazebo-style room. Yet when kitchen fixtures did not arrive until 2002 and delays in the gazebo's construction left a gaping hole in the roof for more than a year, the exasperated couple moved out. Having just left a party Curtis, a drama student at New York University, was on a street corner wearing a tuxedo jacket and kilt when police spotted him allegedly buying a small bag of pot. The next day Curtis appeared in court, where his case was adjourned.

'Today' weatherman Al Roker installed insulation in a new home for low-income families in a Brooklyn, New York neighborhood as part of a Habitat for Humanity project to build 20 houses.
