The article presents information about benchmark tests of supercomputers. A Los Alamos National Laboratory test in Los Alamos, New Mexico, reveals that a traditional vector machine running faster than parallel machine. The benchmark tests identified interprocesssor communications, memory bandwidth and compilers. Los Alamos team compared Cray research's Y-MP⁄8 vector machine against the parallel computing connection machine-2 from thinking machines. Results emphasized that MP architectures are vital to the future of the high performance computing.
