In this essay I reconstruct the good-will flight and 1928 funeral of pilot Emilio Carranza (1905-1928); both, examples of the diplomacy of the times between Mexico and the United States. I point out that flight was part of a strategy by the Plutarco Elías Calles government (1924-1928) to distract citizens, particularly those living in Mexico City, away from the ongoing Cristero Rebellion (1926-1929). I analyze the symbolism behind the funeral of Emilio Carranza in New York, and the funereal trip of his remains through several us cities until their first Mexican destination: Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. I delve into the news in the national and international press as well as documents from the Historical Archive of the Secretary of National Defense. I close this at the moment in which Carranza's casket --covered with a us flag, as way of paying homage to him-- crossed the border and disappeared amid the dusty and desert-like streets of the Mexican border town. Recently, Johannes Neurath's book, titled Subdue the gods, doubt the images (2020) was published, which, among other things, warns that, in the archaeological museums of Mexico, including the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico City, there has been an "ontological mistreatment" of the sacred images of the pre-Hispanic era through their removal from their original locations and indistinct placement in large and cold rooms packed with monoliths, without any consideration for the fact that some were - and continue to be - images bestowed with power and influence by many communities today. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to understand the ritual, roles and symbolic meanings of family grilling consumption experiences in northeast Mexico. Design/methodology/approach: This study adopted a phenomenological approach and conducted 73 in-depth interviews and in situ observations during family grilling experiences. Findings: Based on an examination of the phases, symbolic meanings, and ritual elements of grilling events in Mexico, the results of this study identify a third type of family food consumption ritual, the escape ritual, which has different characteristics than routine and festive family food consumption rituals. Practical implications: The findings indicate the emergence of a more sophisticated family grilling experience that uses new accessories and products. Companies could align their marketing strategies for grilling products and segment their communication messages based on the roles of participants and the symbolic meanings identified in this study. Every January the 2nd since 1927, Mexican police forces celebrated themselves during the date decreed for that aim. It was a secondary ritual due to the dubious support it had beyond the police. This article analyses the Police-Day celebration in Mexico, fundamentally driven by the police department official magazines. Through its pages is possible to understand the construction of an esprit the corpse that blurred the differences within a set of socially heterogeneous corporations marked with inequalities among its members, but also with evident distinctions depending on whether they were municipal or federal, and whether they were focused on security and urban public order or secret surveillance or judicial. This paper discusses how the regional parades of the 'Day of Campecheness'(día de la campechanía) and 'Campechan Rejoicing' (algarabía campechana), held in the city of San Francisco de Campeche, Campeche, Mexico, are discursive constructions and rituals of Cultural Heritage, in turn proposed by government agencies. From the theoretical perspective of ritual, I analyze the symbolic messages that both parades generate. I argue that ritual performances reinforce the social structure of the city and elaborate an imagined community based on community ideals of being "Campechan". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the most important popular religious cults in the City of Puebla is that of the Señor de las Maravillas (Lord of Marvels), who is venerated at the church of Santa Mónica in the historic downtown area of the city. In this text, we will present historic and ethnographic aspects of the religious practices related to this devotion, which range from pilgrimages, processions, a variety of prayers of thanks and petition, to ritual practices including magical elements, such as the "cleansings." This article presents elements of symbolic discourse that contribute to the maintenance of cultural memory in Peninsular Mayan immigrants to Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. I refer to certain (rituals, legends and conceptions) that allow immigrants of this ethnicity to continue reproducing and perpetuating their sense of being Mayan in Cancun, a city which is a magnet for national and international tourism. The testimonies presented are taken from five interviews carried out with women from the eastern part of Yucatan (X-Can, Temax, Espita, Tunkas, Dzitas, Chemax and Valladolid), carried out during research for my doctoral dissertation. The reflections for this article emerged from this research process and later field observations, in which it was possible to explore further the narratives about the chaa chac and hetz-mek rituals, the Xtabay legend, the meaning placed on the heart and the metaphor I have named "deer eyes".
