Campeche como constructor simbólico del patrimonio cultural: Análisis de dos desfiles regionales.

This paper discusses how the regional parades of the 'Day of Campecheness'(día de la campechanía) and 'Campechan Rejoicing' (algarabía campechana), held in the city of San Francisco de Campeche, Campeche, Mexico, are discursive constructions and rituals of Cultural Heritage, in turn proposed by government agencies. From the theoretical perspective of ritual, I analyze the symbolic messages that both parades generate. I argue that ritual performances reinforce the social structure of the city and elaborate an imagined community based on community ideals of being "Campechan". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
