Objectives: Despite the recognized impact of intrinsic capacity (IC) impairment on healthy aging, international comparisons in different sociocultural contexts are scarce. This study aimed to compare IC impairment among community-dwelling older adults in Japan and Taiwan to explore the context of healthy aging in different countries. Design: Comparative observational study. Setting: National Institute for Longevity Sciences-Longitudinal Study of Aging (NILS-LSA) in Japan and Longitudinal Aging Study of Taipei (LAST) in Taiwan. Participants: 794 individuals (age range, 60.0–86.5 years) from NILS-LSA and 1,358 (60.0–96.7 years) from LAST. Measurements: IC impairment was evaluated across the domains of locomotion, cognition, vitality, sensory capacity, and psychological well-being. Participants were categorized as having impaired IC or healthy. We investigated associations between IC impairment, falls, and all-cause mortality. Results: IC impairment was present in 54.9% and 37.3% of participants in the NILS-LSA and LAST cohorts, respectively. Male NILS-LSA participants with impaired IC (odds ratio [OR]:1.50, 95% confidence interval [CI]:1.03–2.20), with hearing loss (OR:1.98, 95% CI:1.00–3.90) were more likely to fall. In LAST, impaired locomotion (OR:2.14, 95% CI:1.46–3.14) increased the risk of falls. Men with impaired IC (hazard ratio [HR]; 2.14, 95% CI.10–4.15) and visual impairment (HR:2.21, 95% CI:1.15–4.25) and women with impaired psychological well-being (HR:4.94, 95% CI:1.28–18.97) in the NILS-LSA cohort had greater risk for all-cause mortality; however, this was not shown for LAST participants. Conclusion: The prevalence and distribution of IC impairment and associated biomarkers differed significantly between participants in Japan and Taiwan. Purpose To evaluate the impact of an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant for lung cancer screening on multinational clinical workflows. Materials and Methods An AI assistant for lung cancer screening was evaluated on two retrospective randomized multireader multicase studies where 627 (141 cancer-positive cases) low-dose chest CT cases were each read twice (with and without AI assistance) by experienced thoracic radiologists (six U.S.-based or six Japan-based radiologists), resulting in a total of 7524 interpretations. Positive cases were defined as those within 2 years before a pathology-confirmed lung cancer diagnosis. Negative cases were defined as those without any subsequent cancer diagnosis for at least 2 years and were enriched for a spectrum of diverse nodules. The studies measured the readers' level of suspicion (on a 0-100 scale), country-specific screening system scoring categories, and management recommendations. Evaluation metrics included the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for level of suspicion and sensitivity and specificity of recall recommendations. Results With AI assistance, the radiologists' AUC increased by 0.023 (0.70 to 0.72; P = .02) for the U.S. study and by 0.023 (0.93 to 0.96; P = .18) for the Japan study. Scoring system specificity for actionable findings increased 5.5% (57% to 63%; P < .001) for the U.S. study and 6.7% (23% to 30%; P < .001) for the Japan study. There was no evidence of a difference in corresponding sensitivity between unassisted and AI-assisted reads for the U.S. (67.3% to 67.5%; P = .88) and Japan (98% to 100%; P > .99) studies. Corresponding stand-alone AI AUC system performance was 0.75 (95% CI: 0.70, 0.81) and 0.88 (95% CI: 0.78, 0.97) for the U.S.- and Japan-based datasets, respectively. Conclusion The concurrent AI interface improved lung cancer screening specificity in both U.S.- and Japan-based reader studies, meriting further study in additional international screening environments. Adult-onset Still's disease is a nonfamilial, or sporadic, systemic autoinflammatory disorder accompanied by peak fever ≥ 39 °C, arthralgia or arthritis, skin rashes, leukocytosis (≥ 10,000 cells/mm 3 ) with neutrophils ≥ 80%, and other clinical symptoms. This study aimed to analyze the quantity and quality of publications, and to exhibit the current global status and trend of adult-onset Still's disease research. Searched with the search term 'Adult onset Still disease' on the Web of Science for time limited to 2011-2020. Original articles and reviews were selected. A total of 537 articles were retrieved from 44 countries, of which 13 met the criteria of major active countries. High-income countries contributed 378 articles (70.39%). The number of articles annually increased significantly in the 10-year period (P < 0.001). China (n = 90, 16.76%), Japan (n = 79, 14.71%), Italy (n = 59, 10.99%), the United States (n = 52, 9.68%) and South Korea (n = 45, 8.38%) are the five most productive countries. Adjusted by population, Italy led the top list, followed by South Korea and Israel. According to gross domestic product analysis, Italy ranked first, followed by Portugal and Turkey. A significant correlation was detected between average citations and AAS (P = 0.002), MRC (P < 0.001). From 2011 to 2020, the number of global articles was increasing rapidly. Most papers came from high-income countries. The relationship between the bibliometric and altmetric analyses are basically consistent, therefore the two can prove/complement each other., (© 2022. HIV prevalence in Japan continues to increase among men who have sex with men (MSM). We built a mathematical model to describe the HIV epidemic, including acute infection and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and projected the model to 2050. We compared current testing and treatment policies, a scenario where Japan achieves UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets, three PrEP scenarios defined by different coverage levels of 25%, 50%, and 75% among the 20% of MSM with the highest risk behavior, and combinations of these scenarios. With no change in interventions prevalence of HIV among MSM will rise to 9.0% in 2050. If Japan achieves full UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets, 84.9% of these infections would be averted. Under 50% PrEP with no expansion of testing and treatment, prevalence will reach 2.6% and 62.1% of infections would be averted by 2050. If in addition UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals are achieved, 92.7% of HIV infections would be prevented by 2050. All interventions tested in this model were cost-saving relative to the base case. Both PrEP and enhanced ART strategies can be cost-saving, and if Japan enhances its testing program for MSM and introduces PrEP, it has the potential to effectively eliminate new infections in the next 30 years.
