Human societies are going through a historical process whereby the politics and economy of the diverse local territories are being increasingly integrated into the global system through transnational media and information technologies. Based on either sheer opportunism or compulsion, the global and local cultural systems have long been going through a process of co-modification and co-adaptation called "glocalization." Focused on the period 1990-2023, this study aims to divulge the multiple facets of glocalization as a market-led cultural phenomenon in India and the key questions and dialogues related to them. A review of literature on media, consumerism, Indian culture, and business adaptations in India is undertaken in seven segments. Considering glocalization as a dynamic cultural-economic force, this paper offers a critical understanding of the television, marketing, and advertising practices in post-global India. Purpose: Wine tourism is spreading from the "old world" wine countries to Asia. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the GLOW framework capturing the tension of homogenization and globalization of touristic experiences, the tourists' rising environmental concerns and their conflict of searching for authentic experience with new sensations. Design/methodology/approach: In a mixed-method procedure, evidence describing the wine tourists' perceptions and motivations is assessed using a quantitative survey and fitting a structural equation model using the PLS algorithm. Complementing evidence through qualitative interviews with Indian entrepreneurs on designing a glocalized experience is analyzed. Findings: Spillover from international travel is the most relevant driver of wine tourism in India. However, types of wines and the experiences are adjusted to the local conditions. The winemakers are remarkably advanced in implementing environmentally sustainable production and avoiding over tourism which perfectly meets their clients' expectations. Research limitations/implications: Entrepreneurial creation theory as described by Alvarez and Barney (2007) is illustrated in the Asian glocalisation context giving special attention to the entrepreneur's individual capabilities as called by Helfat and Peteraf (2015) and Liñán et al. (2020). Practical implications: Conservation of biodiversity and the aesthetics of the local landscape are essential for the vividness of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the attractiveness for the guests. Social implications: Local adaptation of the touristic experience in terms of entertainment, indigenous cuisines and local specialty supports sustainable development of all the stakeholders. Originality/value: Novelty arises from the projection of the visitors considering the wine cellar experience as an alternative to international travels in combination with analyzing how the entrepreneurs create entrepreneurial opportunities by carving out an authentic experience for their guests. Although mobile brands from various countries have taken to the global market, some brands are left to be GLOCALised (local to global). The nonGLOCALisation of these brands are due to some unseen hindrances. This paper is unique in its aim to analyze the challenges faced by local mobile phone supply chains (MPSC) from entering the global market in an Indian context. We analyze the barriers' entry by combining the IVIFs-DEMATEL method with Choquet Integral; also, we compare the obtained results to those from the IVIFs-DEMATEL methodology. The differentiated analysis reveals that 'Equipment Vendor Restrictions' and 'Lack of Awareness about Reverse Logistics' are the main hindrances preventing local manufacturers from reaching the global space. Furthermore, the findings of this study suggest that 'Carrier Aggregation Complexity', 'Equipment Vendor Restrictions', and 'Challenge to Recycling of Plastics' are vital factors nonconducive towards the smooth working of local mobile makers across the country. Since the process of economic liberalization began in India in the 1990s, globalization opened channels for the circulation of Western popular literature and culture in India, which led to their localized adaptation. An illustrative example of this phenomenon is Indian chick lit, which features plots that have a lot in common with Western chick lit but are adapted to reflect urban Indian popular culture, complete with popular Indian stereotypes like the arranged marriage to make it more relatable to the target Indian audience. Through an analysis of Swati Kaushal's Piece of Cake (2004) and Advaita Kala's Almost Single (2009), this essay will illustrate how Indian chick lit represents a newer version of Rupal Oza's post-liberalization 'new liberal Indian woman' and glocalizes the influences of Western culture. The study presents a historical and sociological interpretation of the events that marked the gradual integration of the Bata Company into the Indian economy and society from the mid-1920s to the early 1960s. Within this context, in addition to the general economic, political and cultural developments, particular attention has been devoted to the everyday life of Indian and Czech workers in the Bata company town of Batanagar. The study is based on a comparative-historical analysis of available archival sources and a secondary analysis of the relevant academic literature. The results of the research indicate that during this period, Bata was forced to adapt continuously to the cultural specifics of Indian society, that is, the process of its integration into the Indian economy and society had pronounced glocal characteristics. This paper examines how Subway, the US fast food restaurant franchise, has adapted to Indian culture. Glocalization theory will be the guiding framework used in this analysis. Glocalization rests on the premise that a universal concept must change to fit and function in a local culture. ‘Interlocalization’ has been witnessed as a new praxis in international communication which is all about horizontal flow of knowledge, culture, tradition, know-how and so on, among countries of the world, free from any form of hegemony and domination as against what has been observed in the case of ‘globalization’ and also in ‘glocalization’. This study is an attempt to understand and analyse this phenomenon in the Indian context, and it revolves around two possible broad catalysts of the interlocalization process: (1) India’s communication business alliances and (2) transnational networking among Indian diaspora communities. The article finds that India’s communication business alliances around the world have not yet reached a level to provide the desired impetus to the interlocalization process, although it is gaining momentum. This debate revolves around the argument that people live within a traditional core cultures and that these cultures affect communication messages and people's perceptions toward those messages. Therefore, a globally designed website might reduce the cultural acceptability of a website. Practically, more than often the globalisation of content might reduce a company's target audience to a much smaller group in terms of its way of life, customs and religious beliefs. Literature indicates that another significant element in making mebsites effective is to realise the importance of content and its understanding the users. One of the important issue is the relationship between culture and "feature and content" of a corporate website. Evidence from the emerging body of literature on the cultural dimensions of website design and content attributes cuts both ways on the assumption of culturally-neutral, web-based communication. The present study was undertaken with an objective to examine cultural differences and similarities between the content of existing corporate websites from the three countries i.e. India, China, and Denmark, across Hofstede Cultural Dimensions. This study examined the corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies of 38 multinational corporations with operations in India. Seventy-six global and Indian corporate websites were cross-examined to determine the prominence and extent of CSR reporting as well as the dimensions most salient in the CSR content to determine whether these corporations follow a global, local, or glocal CSR strategy. The findings revealed that most of the companies follow a global approach to CSR management and communication in India. This context-specific examination of CSR strategies expands the knowledge of global CSR practices. Also, it exemplifies how cultural, political, and economic environments can inform strategic communication's understanding of transnational CSR programs, and contribute to theory building in an emerging area of glocalization in a transnational context. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current glocal (global and local) environment to answer the following research questions: How does the glocal environment influence software exporting industries in India? How is the evolving "sticky" knowledge from individuals and teams assimilated into organizational knowledge repositories? What management practices have been learnt and applied for advancement of knowledge portfolios in the offshore software business market? Design/methodology/approach – An interpretivist research design is used to gain insights into organizational learning processes adopted by offshore software vendors for assimilating evolving knowledge into knowledge repositories. Findings – This paper describes the influence of the current glocal environment on software exporting industries in India and presents a model for organizational learning to assimilate knowledge and build effective representations of emerging knowledge artifacts. The authors employ the concept of meta-learning (or "learning about learning") to analyze the recursive nature of organizational learning processes. Practical Implications – The proposed model of meta-learning explains how software organizations build on individual and team competencies to build core competencies. The model helps us to understand how organizations advance their learning processes and upgrade their knowledge repositories. Originality/value – The paper offers new perspectives on how organizations reflexively monitor their knowledge processes to advance their knowledge portfolios. The contemporary global consumptionscape is characterized by a vast array of global economic, technological and cultural flows. These flows connect different consumer cultures in complex ways. One outcome of global cultural flows is the re-appropriation of cultural practices in their places of origin after a process of sanctioning in (most often) the western hotbed of consumer culture production. In this paper we explore how the crossing and re-crossing of boundaries has fundamentally transformed the practices and ideas behind local consumption practices in the Indian marketplace; specifically, yoga. We uncover six ways in which middle class yoga consumers in India interpret glocal yoga as it becomes a fashionable practice: yoga as a resource management technique, yoga as a health practice, market oriented yoga, global yoga, global yoga as cultural domination, and yoga as national heritage. In the wake of "tearing down" the Berlin Wall, the process of neo-liberal economic globalization entered into a new phase provoking discussions on the meaning of globalization that contains stark value judgments. The incipient liberalization created considerable interest among the Indian urban middle classes and confident industrialists. However, a contrasting trend soon became evident in the emergence of movements protesting against economic globalization and giving new momentum to the defense of local uniqueness and perceived threat to national identity. The Indian intellectual movement introducing "glocalization" (though not necessarily) provides an example in "hybridity" to testify that economic globalization has always been influenced by an amicable cultural norm that has, throughout ages, been an important mechanism in universalizing particularism as well as the particularization of universalism. Today, economic globalization takes a standardized consumer culture in contrast to both the Hindu scriptural ill-defined economic value systems and neo-Marxist stoic view, which opposes international trade, commerce, and multinational finance. Whereas for the neo-Marxists in India, anti-globalization is a war on wealth, for the nationalists and religious Hindu revivalists, globalization is an attack on swadeshi economic self-reliance, believed to be a spiritual corrective. My study raises and verifies three interconnected issues: First, what have been the cultural urges in ancient and medieval eras in promoting globalization? How do they differ from the current trends? Second, what has been the extent and direction of culture in accelerating global trade links? This article examines the audience demand that Bollywood films, in order to be popular among Indians, have “an Indian touch” even while exhibiting global influences. Audience responses to the use of English, Western clothing, musical styles, and settings range from anxiety to pleasure and vary from subject to subject, but audience members expressed an almost universal expectation that Bollywood films contain traditional clothing and music, that they retain the emphasis on familial emotion, and that they reinforce Indian values. Such reciprocal adaptation between the symptoms of globalization and the retention of “an Indian touch” is discussed using the theoretical framework of glocalization in international communication. This article explores glocalization, a theoretical framework advanced by Ronald Robertson, as a way to understand the changes taking place in Indian journalism practices and news content. The impact of globalization on news in India, when understood as glocalization, can be interpreted as a set of practices in which the local media have absorbed the global, rejuvenated the local, and given audiences possibilities of strengthening democratic discourses. While journalism practices such as integration of new information technologies, increased audience feedback, and increased professional training of journalism students have become globalized, news content continues to be highly localized in its purpose and scope. Purpose - The purpose of the paper is to examine the kind of HRM practices being implemented by overseas firms in their Indian subsidiaries and also to analyze the linkage between HRM practices and organizational performance. Design/methodology/approach - The paper utilizes a mixture of both quantitative and qualitative techniques via personal interviews in 76 subsidiaries. Findings - The results show that while the introduction of HRM practices from the foreign parent organization is negatively associated with performance, local adaption of HRM practices is positively related with the performance of foreign firms operating in India. Research limitations/implications - The main limitations include data being collected by only one respondent from each firm, and the relatively small sample size. Practical implications - The key message for practitioners is that HRM systems do improve organizational performance in the Indian subsidiaries of foreign firms, and an emphasis on the localization of HRM practices can further contribute in this regard.
