The aim was to explore the literature for instruments that assess school well-being, identifying their design features and construct appropriateness. A systematic review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020, and the PICO strategy to formulate the research questions. Fifty-two articles on instruments to assess pupils' school well-being were analysed using an interpretive approach. The results showed that school well-being is a topic of global interest, with China standing out, with non-uniform growth since 2007, being most notable in 2018 and 2019. Longitudinal and qualitative studies have appeared more frequently in recent years. The presence of multidimensional instruments stood out, with no consensus on the identification of the items to be assessed from a holistic perspective. This study paves the way for the design of a questionnaire that operationalise school well-being, considering not only the literature, but also the direct perceptions of pupils.

Autistic individuals experience higher rates of externalising and internalising symptoms that may vary with environmental factors. However, there is limited research on variation across settings that may highlight common factors with globally generalisable effects. Data were taken from two cohorts: a multinational European sample (n = 764; 453 autistic; 311 non-autistic; 6-30 years), and a South African sample (n = 100 non-autistic; 3-11 years). An exploratory factor analysis aggregated clinical (Verbal Comprehension and Perceptual Index), adaptive traits (Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scale) and socio-economic variables (parental employment and education, home and family characteristics) in each cohort separately. With regression, we investigated the effect of these factors and autistic traits on internalising and externalising scores (measured with the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire). Cohorts showed similar four-factor structures (Person Characteristics, Family System, Parental and Material Resources). The 'Family System' factor captured family size and maternal factors and was associated with lower internalising and externalising symptoms in both cohorts. In the European cohort, high autistic traits reduced this effect; the opposite was found in the South Africa cohort. Our exploratory findings from two separate analyses represent consistent evidence that Family System is associated with internalising and externalising symptoms, with a context-specific impact in persons with high autism traits. In this study, we review institutional and psychological predictors of university students' mental health help-seeking intentions, depression, anxiety, resilience, and perceived university support and structure. An online survey was completed by a convenience sample of 199 university students from the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe (age 18-56 years). A multiple regression analysis identified only depression and perceived university support and structure to be significant predictors of student help-seeking. Organisational structure and support facilities that may benefit student help-seeking and wellbeing are discussed.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused unique challenges to international students. Student Affairs and Services (SAS) across the higher education sector played a key role in supporting students and institutions during the pandemic. This article reports the findings of an exploratory survey with SAS practitioners from around the globe on the ways in which SAS responded to the pandemic and sought to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on students, in general, and international students specifically. The results demonstrate that international students were among the primary groups of students impacted by the pandemic. Specific challenges identified include mental well-being, inability to return home, financial hardships, fear, and uncertainty. Discrimination of certain groups was also noted. SAS intervened to assist international students in navigating these challenges across world regions, including services declared essential for international student support. Finally, financial implications and the future of international student support are explored.

Background: Adolescents often experience discomfort due to individual experiences and the influence of their environment. This discomfort sometimes leads to mental health problems. Education is pivotal in promoting adolescents' mental health through dedicated prevention interventions and through everyday educational practice, both at school and in the community. Objective: To develop an overview of the types of educational interventions aimed at promoting the mental health of adolescents and young adults, providing helpful guidance and insights to teachers/educators. Methods: We conducted a scoping review developed through searches in the CINAHL, Eric, PsycINFO and PubMed databases. We summarised data using descriptive analysis, grouping educational interventions category according to their goals and purposes. Results: Of the initial 704 articles identified, 19 met the study inclusion criteria. Consistent with Dewey's educational theory, most of the interventions reported in the selected studies can be viewed as genuine 'educational' interventions, in that they involved experiential and interactive activities such as discussion groups, role-play and art-based activities. Fewer interventions involved less participatory and more 'information-based' activities, such as lessons. However, in many interventions, the role of teachers/educators in promoting young people's mental health was underestimated; indeed, in only a few cases were they the providers/co-providers of the activities described, and rarely was there continuity/alignment between the interventions and everyday school activities. Conclusions: Conducting a greater number of formal/informal educational interventions to promote adolescents' mental health is imperative, especially in the current socio-historical context, but this enterprise must acknowledge, value and support the important role of teachers/educators as leaders and participants in this endeavour.

Emergencies can cause disruption to education. This study is unique in providing the first empirical systematic review on teacher support for Emergency Remote Education (ERE) from 2010 to 2020. A total of 57 studies emerged from the PRISMA search. This mixed-method study used deductive and inductive iterative methods to examine the data. The data reveal teacher support strategies from across 50 different high and low-income countries. Few studies focused on a teacher's subject and the age range taught. In the examination of professional development provided to prepare K-12 teachers to conduct ERE, eight codes emerged from the grounded coding as: (1) prior preparation, (2) understanding ERE, (3) needs analysis, (4) digital pedagogical strategies, (5) technology tools, (6) frameworks, (7) digital equity, and (8) mental wellness.

This study aimed to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the stress levels and life satisfaction of individuals with disabilities and what role social support plays in mitigating these impacts. Data from individuals with disabilities (n = 600) were extracted from a larger international cross-sectional survey study. Regression analyses were conducted to examine how personal and environmental factors contributed to stress levels and life satisfaction changes during the pandemic. Mediation analyses were used to test whether social support mediated the association between stress level and life satisfaction. The negative impact of the pandemic, having a psychiatric disability, being a female, and being younger significantly predicted stress levels. Moreover, the negative impact of the pandemic and stress levels significantly predicted life satisfaction. The relationship between stress levels and life satisfaction was mediated by social support from significant others and friends. There is an urgent need to provide training and education for healthcare professionals, families, and caregivers on the basic aspects of mental health care, developing time-limited and culturally-sensitive mental health interventions, and strategies for expanding the social support system for the population. Broad dissemination of effective therapeutic strategies is crucial in mitigating the negative psychosocial impact of the pandemic.

Previous studies have reported reduced quality of life in autism. Improving quality of life for autistic people is, therefore, a key priority for clinical research and practice. However, the relative impact of core autism traits (e.g. social-communication difficulties), as compared to associated mental health symptoms (e.g. anxiety, depression) on quality of life remains poorly understood. This is despite at least 20%-50% of autistic individuals experiencing associated anxiety and/or depression symptoms. Hence, we measured subjective quality of life in 573 six to thirty-year-olds (autism spectrum disorder N=344), using two widely validated questionnaires. Adults self-reported on the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief instrument. Parents of children/adolescents completed the Child Health and Illness Profile. We assessed individual variability across both measures and modelled associations between quality of life, core autism traits, anxiety, and depression symptoms. Across both age groups and quality of life measures, autistic individuals scored lower than comparison individuals, on average, particularly for physical health in adults (d=-1.24, 95% confidence interval: [-1.56, -0.93]) and school achievement for children/adolescents (d=-1.06, 95% confidence interval: [-1.29, -0.84]). However, a notable proportion of autistic individuals (36%--71% across quality of life domains) did not have reduced quality of life. Across ages and quality of life measures, severity of associated symptoms was significantly related to reduced quality of life on several domains, after accounting for core autism traits. Most notably, depression symptoms were related to reduced physical/psychological well-being in both adults ([beta][greater than or equal to]-0.34) and children/ adolescents ([beta]=-0.29, 95% confidence interval: [-0.36, -0.14]). For children/adolescents, anxiety symptoms ([beta][greater than or equal to]-0.28) and core social-communication difficulties ([beta][greater than or equal to]-0.22) were also related to subjective quality of life outcomes. Overall, findings indicate that not all autistic individuals experience reduced subjective quality of life. Variability in quality of life is significantly influenced by associated symptoms, across developmental stage. This may provide a tractable target for mental health services to improve quality of life for autistic individuals over the lifespan.

The current agenda for mental health in schools is considered in relation to the concept of mental health and how it has been iterated in schools in the UK. Key contributions from education pioneers are outlined, providing a time line for the first half of the twentieth century particularly informed by psychoanalysis. Mid twentieth century the term mental health begins to be used explicitly and we see the emergence of mental health counselling in schools. Developments culminate in Wall's (1955) landmark book "Education and Mental Health," which set out a whole school approach. In the latter part of the twentieth century we see a move towards a targeted approach, and the curriculum development for Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) and the consolidation of current policy drivers for mental health are set out. It is argued that in the future, in light of COVID-19, we will see new bridges between home and school, with schools acting more as community hubs supporting the mental health of children and their families.

There is little evidence on the association between child and adolescent mental health (CAMH) policies and adolescent mental health. This study examined this association using data on indicators of adolescent mental health--aggressive behavior, life satisfaction, and psychosomatic symptoms--in 172,829 eleven- to fifteen-year-olds from 30 European countries in the 2013-2014 Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) study. Individual records were linked to national-level policies for CAMH, controlling for national-level adult violence, adult well-being, and income inequality. Multilevel analyses revealed lower adolescent aggressive behavior in countries with more CAMH policies, even after controlling for other national-level indicators. Adolescent life satisfaction and psychosomatic symptoms were not associated with CAMH policies. Results may inform policy recommendations regarding investments in adolescent mental health.

Mental health difficulties amongst children and young people increasingly dominate the British government agenda. Despite the 2014 Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice extending statutory provision up to the age of 25, the mental health needs of older young people are often overlooked in educational guidance. For many young people, the impact of depression has wide ranging social and economic implications; therefore it is important to enable early identification and intervention. Understanding self-report processes may be one way of enabling this. From this perspective, the present review aimed to investigate what narratives young people use to communicate depression. Eight studies were identified and assessed using qualitative and quantitative frameworks, and reported using PRISMA guidelines. Findings provide useful information about issues, methods and processes in communicating depression as well as perceptions about effective support. Implications for future research and practice are considered in light of these findings.

The purpose of this article is to review the literature on geography and mental health, report on a case example using new methods for studying this topic, and provide recommendations for future research. Over 25 years ago, Holley (1988) conducted a review of the literature on geography and mental health and astutely stated, "… it is surprising that geographic study designs … have not received greater attention as an important and viable method of assessing population mental health" (p. 535). In 1997, Parr echoed a similar statement, indicating that little has been researched on this topic and suggested this area be termed "geography of mental health". Decades later, these statements still hold true--researchers have given little attention to the intersection of geography and mental health. Yet, there is great potential for this research to expand in a way that may be of great benefit to those studying mental health as well as the many suffering with mental health problems. In this article, a case example is provided to demonstrate the possibilities of utilizing current technologies, Twitter and the ESRI GeoEvent Processor, to expand the methods for research on this topic.

This article draws on theoretical contributions from Michel Foucault, Nikolas Rose and from within the new sociology of childhood to open up for critical analysis and debate contemporary policy and practice initiatives involving the introduction of formal psychotherapeutic education programmes in schools. While the primary focus is the UK, the article also makes reference to wider European and international contexts. A children's rights perspective is taken in considering the potential implications of such initiatives for children and young people. Specifically, the article challenges the assumption that formal psychotherapeutic education programmes are an unequivocal 'good' and it explores the possibility that they may undermine rather than promote children's agency, hence their 'emotional wellbeing'. It is concluded that intensified surveillance of children's emotional lives is both related to, and contributes towards, wider governance practices of the late modern neo-liberal disciplinary state.

Problem: After the Soviet Union dissolved in 1989, it became apparent that there was little recognition of the problems of child abuse and neglect, professionally, legally, or societally. There were no effective systems or laws in place to deal with these problems. Method: Beginning in 1995 the Children's Mental Health Alliance, in conjunction with the Open Society Institute began conducting trainings in Eastern Europe [Journal of the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry 39 (2000) 660]. Originally 18 countries from the Baltics to the Balkans participated. A program was elaborated which would proceed in several stages: (1) training mental health professionals to deal with child abuse and neglect (CAN); (2) teaching multidisciplinary team work and fostering the development of multidisciplinary NGOs focused on CAN; (3) promoting the self-sufficiency of these NGO's which would then facilitate social and legal reform and increase public awareness of the problem. Specific methods included multi-national trainings, assignment of mentors to the developing teams who maintained weekly contact with the teams and made yearly site visits to their countries, and overseeing project grants from OSI. Results: NGO's had been established and registered in 11 countries, many establishing a network of programs within their countries. By 2000, over 3800 mental health professional had been trained, either directly by the program or by the trainees of the program. By the end of 2000, over 17,000 other professionals (lawyers, police, judges, educators, other physicians, etc.) had been trained by the network. Conclusion: While more work needs to be in this region, the teams in 11 countries have made solid starts.

To understand country-level differences in the population's health and well-being in Europe in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, while also investigating the internal relationships among health and well-being outcomes. Cross-sectional study. We collected representative panel-based samples of 1000 adult respondents per country across 14 Western European countries in early 2023. The survey used standardised instruments to assess health and well-being, including EQ-5D-5L, GHQ-12, PHQ-9, general satisfaction, the Brief Resilience Scale and the ULS-6 (Loneliness) Scale. Summary statistics of the aggregate scores for each country were calculated and ranked. Multidimensional unfolding was used to visualize the rank relationships across countries and the indices, whereby a closer distance between a country and an index indicated a higher/better rank. Additionally, two key objective country-level indices (GDP growth rate and excess mortality rates) were integrated into the analysis. Austria was found to report better status on most of the indices, while Sweden and the UK ranked consistently worse than the other countries. The loneliness, EQ-VAS and satisfaction scores were plotted further from the mental well-being scores and EQ-5D utility scores. Countries that did well in controlling excess mortality and maintaining economic growth tended to exhibit lower performance in self-reported well-being. This study presents the variability in health and well-being across 14 West-European countries. Discrepancies between countries in self-reported outcomes reveal the complex interrelationship among different aspects of well-being. In the past decade, there has been a significant increase in the forced migrant and refugee population in Europe. As the journey to arrive at the country of destination is mostly irregular, research has shown that forced migrants survive a number of traumatic experiences trying to reach safety and ensure the well-being of themselves and their families. Since research shows that exposure to traumatic experiences refugee and migrant families endure on their journey is severe, a systematic literature review was conducted to understand the concept of trauma-informed approaches for migrant and refugee families. A total of seven research databases have been a part of this study, and the search resulted in 45 papers that were analyzed and their results presented. The following inclusion criteria were considered: (a) migrant/refugee families living with their children and (b) migrant/refugee families approaching care (health, social, educational, legal). Inclusion criteria refer to phenomenological studies, consider trauma/resilience of migrant/refugee families, include studies that are published in English language only; published literature only; 2013 onwards, and only full-text studies. The results of this analysis imply that papers are more focused on the experiences of trauma than on the approaches to treat it. However, this analysis did result in identifying approaches, interventions, and tools in working with trauma refugee and migrant families. Trauma-informed approaches for forced migrant families require a culturally adapted response provided across all sectors of family support to refugees and migrants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The unmet need for mental health care is a global concern. There is a lack of cross-cultural studies examining adolescent help-seeking behavior from both formal and informal sources, including both high-and lower-income countries. This study investigates mental health help-seeking behavior in eight Asian and European countries. Data from 13,184 adolescents aged 13–15 (51% girls) was analysed using mixed-effects logistic regression with school-wise random intercepts to compare countries and genders. Although a significant proportion of adolescents considered getting or sought informal help, formal help-seeking remained exceptionally low, especially in middle-income countries (< 1%), while it ranged from 2 to 7% in high-income countries. Among adolescents with high emotional and behavioral problems (scoring above the 90th percentile on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire), 1–2% of those in middle-income countries and 6–25% of those in high-income countries sought formal help. Girls generally seek more help than boys. The study shows the most adolescents do not receive formal help for mental health problems. The unmet need gap is enormous, especially in lower-income countries. Informal sources of support, including relatives, peers, and teachers, play a crucial role, especially in lower-income countries. Mental health of migrant adolescents is a topic that has been widely studied in the past decades. Emotional and behavioural problems are amongst the most explored areas; however, little attention has been paid to the relational sphere, which represents another key aspect of mental health and is paramount during adolescence. This systematic review analysed the available evidence on emotional and relational problems comparing adolescents with and without a migrant background in Europe between 2010 and 2021. The search was conducted in four databases using a common search strategy composed of terms addressing adolescence, migrant population, and emotional and relational problems. Three rounds of screening produced 36 eligible studies. Factors affecting both types of problems were identified and categorised using thematic synthesis, dividing them into factors affecting both types of problems jointly or separately and analysing them according to three systemic levels affecting the adolescents' lives (intrapersonal, interpersonal and external). Critical analysis of the results pointed to mixed findings, with a mild tendency in migrant-background adolescents to portray more emotional problems than their native peers and a stronger tendency for relational problems in the same direction. Several limitations were identified and, along with the conclusions, point to suggestions for future research focusing on studying relational problems as a key component of mental health and its link to emotional problems. Further suggestions entail designing studies that target adolescents with different migrant-background profiles and cultural origins to establish differences between them and identify additional factors affecting emotional and relational problems during the pre-migration and transit phases of the migratory journey to help prevent the onset of these problems. Dual careers (DCs) are challenging trajectories followed by athletes willing to develop their academic/professional career with their athletic careers. These trajectories usually entail additional stressors, which can decrease athletes' mental health or even increase their risk of mental ill‐health. While existing research has recognized the importance of psychological and social factors in both of these areas separately, we lack systematic knowledge on which factors are associated with European DC athlete mental health outcomes, making evidence‐based practice more challenging. In this regard, to advance the European DC tradition and to provide a strong base for researchers and practitioners working within this field, this systematic review aims to appraise this evidence identifying and categorizing the psychological and social factors associated with the European DC athletes' mental health. We conducted this review according to Preferred Reporting for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analysis guidelines and performed the systematic search in six databases, finding 56 eligible articles. Our analysis identified 35 different psychological and social factors, most showing significant associations with athletes' mental health. Notably, affect, stress, motivational climate, mindfulness, resilience, perfectionism, goal orientation, motivation, and basic psychological need satisfaction showed the strongest evidence associated with mental health. Overall, this review provides a comprehensive synthesis of psychological and social factors, advancing the holistic ecological approach in dual careers and athlete mental health. Yet, our results highlight the need to strengthen the evidence regarding these factors and provide specific research avenues, such as focus on DC‐specific factors and consideration of DC athlete definition and career trajectories. Highlights: Our systematic review analyzed the psychological and social factors affecting European dual career (DC) athletes' mental health, yielding 56 relevant articles.We identified 35 distinct factors, organized into four psychological (Identity, Expectations, and Beliefs; Emotional and Affective Responses; Motivation and Goal‐oriented Behavior; and Competencies and Coping Resources) and three social categories (Sport and Academic Climates; DC‐Specific Demands; and Interactions with DC Agents). We narratively developed each category and synthesized the findings into a DC development environment working model.Our findings illustrate nine factors with the most robust associations with mental health. For future research, we emphasize the need for more detailed characterizations of DC athletes, deeper explorations of DC competencies, and a focus on longitudinal and replication studies to enhance our understanding of DC mental health in Europe. Background The impact of cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) on functional dependency (FD) is well established, but the temporal effect of FD on CMM and its mechanisms remain underexplored. Design A multicohort study pooled data from three international cohorts. Setting Data were sourced from the Health and Retirement Study (USA), the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (China) and the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in 18 European countries. Methods FD was defined as the inability to perform basic activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental ADLs (IADLs) independently. CMM was defined as the co-occurrence of two or three cardiometabolic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Generalised estimating equation models assessed associations between FD and CMM, with mediation analysis using the Karlson, Holm and Breen method to explore the effects of hypertension and depressive symptoms. Sensitivity analyses ensured robustness. Results The final cohort included 157 512 and 190 249 individuals for ADL and IADL analyses, respectively. CMM prevalence was 18.97% and 16.65% in these groups. FD was consistently associated with higher CMM risk, with odds ratios ranging from 1.47 (95% confidence interval: 1.33–1.63) to 1.56 (1.42–1.73). Hypertension and depressive symptoms increased CMM risk, particularly at higher FD levels. Mediation analysis showed hypertension and depressive symptoms accounted for 8.01%–16.43% and 12.04%–18.36% of the adverse effect of FD on CMM, respectively, with more pronounced effects among smokers and heavy drinkers. Conclusions Targeted interventions focusing on hypertension, mental wellness, lifestyle factors, and integrated treatments for FD are crucial to prevent CMM in older adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In current times, we coexist with technology, using it every day. However, in older people, the use and employability of technology on a day-to-day basis is often more complicated or even null due to a lack of knowledge. Background/Objectives: The youngest generation were born surrounded by technology, which has given them superior capabilities when it comes to handling technology compared to elderly people. In short, older people have grown up without technology and only later in life have they crossed paths with it. Therefore, these circumstances can produce what is known as a "digital divide", an unequal distribution in the access, use, or impact of information and communication technologies among social groups. Thus, the aim of this study is to examine whether there is a digital divide among European older adults and to show its effect on the mental health of individuals. In this way, we analyze how technological characteristics (digital divide) cause worsen mental health. Additionally, we examine whether, over time, the digital divide has had a greater impact on the mental health of older adults. Methods: For this purpose, recently published data from the Survey on Health, Aging, and Retirement in Europe are used. Results: Our analysis has revealed that the digital divide, driven by age, negatively affects the mental health of older adults in Europe. Thus, we have analyzed how technological characteristics related to the digital divide lead to poorer mental health among this population. Additionally, we have examined whether the digital divide has increasingly impacted older adults' mental health over time. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need to address the digital divide as a public health issue, promoting greater digital inclusion to improve the psychological well-being of older adults. Background: The integration of sex and gender aspects into the research process has been recognized as crucial to the generation of valid data. During the coronavirus pandemic, a great deal of research addressed the mental state of hospital staff, as they constituted a population at risk for infection and distress. However, it is still unknown how the gender dimension was included. We aimed to appraise and measure qualitatively the extent of gender sensitivity. Methods: In this scoping review, we searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL PsycINFO and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) from database inception to November 11, 2021. All quantitative studies with primary data published in English, German, or Spanish and based in the European Union were selected. Included studies had to have assessed the mental health of hospital staff using validated psychometric scales for depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, distress, suicidal behavior, insomnia, substance abuse or aggressive behavior. Two independent reviewers applied eligibility criteria to each title/abstract reviewed, to the full text of the article, and performed the data extraction. A gender sensitivity assessment tool was developed and validated, consisting of 18 items followed by a final qualitative assessment. Two independent reviewers assessed the gender dimension of each included article. Results: Three thousand one hundred twelve studies were identified, of which 72 were included in the analysis. The most common design was cross-sectional (75.0%) and most of them were conducted in Italy (31.9%). Among the results, only one study assessed suicidal behaviors and none substance abuse disorders or aggressive behaviors. Sex and gender were used erroneously in 83.3% of the studies, and only one study described how the gender of the participants was determined. Most articles (71.8%) did not include sex/gender in the literature review and did not discuss sex/gender-related findings with a gender theoretical background (86.1%). In the analysis, 37.5% provided sex/gender disaggregated data, but only 3 studies performed advanced modeling statistics, such as interaction analysis. In the overall assessment, 3 papers were rated as good in terms of gender sensitivity, and the rest as fair (16.7%) and poor (79.2%). Three papers were identified in which gender stereotypes were present in explaining the results. None of the papers analyzed the results of non-binary individuals. Conclusions: Studies on the mental health of hospital staff during the pandemic did not adequately integrate the gender dimension, despite the institutional commitment of the European Union and the gendered effect of the pandemic. In the development of future mental health interventions for this population, the use and generalizability of current evidence should be done cautiously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Human is an entity that can be completed with the combination of biological, psychological and social factors. The concept of health is defined as being in a state of complete mental, social and physical well-being. The term "community mental health" defines mental health care in relation to the individual and the environment in which the individual interacts. If the factors affecting mental health are known and intervened, it is predicted that community mental health will make positive progress. The aim of this study is to examine and compare the factors affecting community mental health by analysing community mental health data in Türkiye and Europe. The World Health Organisation (WHO) examines these factors in three groups as individual, family and community and structural factors. In order to analyse the degree to which these factors affect mental health, data from Türkiye and Europe were analysed by examining the reports of the World Health Organization, European Commission, European Parliament, OECD, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and Turkish Statistical Institute. It is seen that community mental health is affected by the community's understanding of health and illness, access to mental health services, gender, age, education, the concept of loneliness, unemployment, diseases affecting the world such as pandemics and the economy. As a result of mental health reports and analyses, not much difference was observed between the factors affecting public mental health in Türkiye and Europe. In general, it is seen that there are country-based evaluations in mental health data. Differences between countries are generally interpreted with the development levels of countries. However, cultural differences between countries are not emphasised. Background: Numerous studies have explored the impact of pre- and post-migration factors on the overall health of migrant populations. The objective of this study is to enhance our understanding of additional determinants affecting migrants' health by examining the impact of the migration phase and related journeys in the European context. Methods: We conducted a systematic review of studies published in the MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus databases from 2003 up to January 5, 2024. We included observational studies reporting information on the health status of migrant populations recorded upon arrival in a country situated in Europe, and on the transit phase, including specific risk factors experienced during the journey or its characteristics. Title and abstract screening were performed using active learning techniques provided by ASReview software. The results of the included studies were presented qualitatively, with a focus on publications that formally assessed the association between the journey and the investigated health outcomes. The systematic review was registered on PROSPERO, CRD42024513421. Results: Out of 11,370 records screened, we ultimately included 25 studies, all conducted since 2017. Most adopted a cross-sectional design and a quantitative approach, with relatively small sample sizes. The majority of the studies were conducted in Serbia and Italy. Only 14 of them formally assessed the association between different exposures in the transit phase and health outcomes, including mental health, well-being and quality of life, infectious and non-communicable diseases. Conclusion: Epidemiological research focusing on the transit phase in Europe remains limited, with few available studies facing challenges related to data collection, study design and analysis, thereby limiting the interpretability and generalisability of their results. These findings underscore the need for action, prompting the development of adequate and feasible strategies to conduct additional studies focusing on migrant populations during migration journeys. Even during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic health professionals were facing mental health challenges. The aim of this study was to examine the mental health of doctors, nurses and other professional groups in Europe and to identify differences between the professional groups. We conducted a cross-sectional online survey in 8 European countries. We asked for demographic data, whether the participants were exposed to COVID-19 at work, for main information sources about the pandemic, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21), and major stressors. A MANCOVA was carried out to find predictors of mental health among health care professionals. The sample (N = 1398) consisted of 237 physicians, 459 nurses, and 351 other healthcare professionals and 351 non-medical professionals with no direct involvement in patient care. The mean mental health of all groups was affected to a mild degree. Major predictors for depression and anxiety were the profession group with higher scores especially in the group of the nurses and working directly with COVID-patients. In the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the psychological burden on health professionals has remained high, with being nurse and working directly with COVID19 patients being particular risk factors for mental distress. Adaptive parent–child interaction plays a major role in healthy child development. Caregiver mental health problems can negatively impact parent–child interaction. In turn, interactional quality is often studied as a predictor of child outcome. However, child characteristics supposedly shape parent–child interactions as well. Given associations between child and caregiver mental health and child temperament, this study aimed at differentiating their effects on dyadic interaction quality in adolescence. Child temperament and character at age 5 were investigated as longitudinal predictors of observed mother–adolescent interactional quality at age 14 in a community sample (N = 76). It was examined whether these effects were independent of maternal and child mental health and earlier dysfunctional interaction. Lower novelty seeking, higher reward dependence, and higher cooperativeness separately predicted higher dyadic interactional quality at age 14. Controlling regressions for dysfunctional interaction at age 5, which was a significant negative predictor of later interactional quality, cancelled out the effects of novelty seeking and cooperativeness. Past or concurrent maternal or child psychopathology did not explain variance in mother–adolescent interaction. Applying backward selection, a model including reward dependence and dysfunctional interaction at age 5 and concurrent maternal stress showed the best fit for explaining dyadic interaction quality. Results suggest that enduring rather than transient child features predict interactional quality in a community sample. Effects of temperament are not better explained by those of psychopathology, but a combination of child, maternal, and dyadic features predicted dyadic behaviour best. The relationship between social isolation, loneliness, and tooth loss and cognition in older people is poorly understood. We examine how social isolation and cognitive performance are associated prospectively among older adults, as well as how tooth loss and loneliness are related to this association. Using data from 26,168 participants aged ≥50 from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), we explored the association between social isolation, loneliness, tooth loss and cognition. We used bootstrapping with resampling strategies for testing a moderated mediating model. Higher social isolation was associated with poorer cognitive performance (B = −0.20, 95% CI = −0.03, −0.01; R2 =0.60), an association mediated by the respondent's number of missing teeth (B = −0.001, 95% CI = −0.002, −0.001). Higher levels of social isolation were associated with a greater number of missing teeth, and a higher number of missing teeth was linked with poorer cognition. We also found that loneliness moderated the relationship between social isolation and both the number of missing teeth (B = −0.11, p = 0.047) and cognitive performance. In later life, social isolation and loneliness are associated with shoddy oral health and poor cognitive status. Clinicians and policymakers should be aware of both the association between social isolation and feelings of loneliness on dentition and oral health and their relationship to the cognitive status of older adults. Objectives: This systematised review aimed to examine European literature reporting data about adaptative skills and global external functioning of unaccompanied minors (UAMs). Methods: We conducted a systematised screening of four databases (APA PsycINFO Ovid, Medline Ovid ALL, Embase.com and Web Of Science Core Collection) using a research strategy including social, scholarly and behavioural abilities as well as externalising problems associated with the target population of UAMs. Thirty articles were included using pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Our review showed that despite high levels of internalising disorders, socio-behavioural and educational adjustment of UAMs remained positive. It demonstrated how this population displays a strong desire for academic success and prosocial behaviours instead of aggressivity in everyday life. Nevertheless, our review drew attention to the strong tendency of UAMs to internalise their disorders and display chronic distress and problematic behaviours which increased with time spent in the host country. Conclusion: Our study draws attention to the risk of underestimating the real mental health needs of refugees, due to preserved external functioning combined with significant settlement pressures. Background. Stigmatization dates as far back as ancient times. Nowadays, this term is defined as a public condemnation of individuals and/or excluding them from social groups. This phenomenon may apply to almost all aspects of life. The issue of mental health is one of the most affected. Objectives. This paper aimed to assess the influence of one's religiousness on the process of devaluation and discrimination of psychi- atric patients. An original questionnaire was designed by the authors which was addressed to followers of different religions among Central and Eastern European countries. Material and methods. The questionnaire gathered information regarding socio-demographic data and also used psychometric tools: Religious Involvement Scale (RIS), Spirituality Questionnaire (SQ) and Perceived Devaluation and Discrimination Scale (PDD). A total of 308 respondents took part in the research, the vast majority of whom were women - 232 (75.3%). The mean age of the study group was 26.5 ± 9.6 years. Results. The analysis of the influence of socio-demographic factors showed that women obtained lower values on the SQ scale than men (p = 0.047). No significant difference has been reported in the RIS and SQ scales in relation to GDP/capita and HDI. There was no significant statistical relationship between PDD and RIS totals, while there was an inverse relationship between SQ and PDD. Conclusions. The impact of religiousness and spirituality on the deterioration and stigmatization of individuals with mental illnesses is an important issue as this phenomenon can negatively affect their process of treatment and regression of symptoms. Objectives: The literature is nonexistent on the assessment of overall fractions of diseases attributable to multiple dependent psychosocial work factors. The objectives of the study were to calculate the overall fractions of coronary heart diseases (CHD) and depression attributable to multiple dependent psychosocial work factors in 35 European countries. Methods: We used already published fractions of CHD and depression attributable to each of the following psychosocial work factors: job strain, effort-reward imbalance, job insecurity, long working hours, and workplace bullying. We took all exposures and their correlations into account to calculate overall attributable fractions. Wald tests were performed to test differences in these overall attributable fractions between genders and between countries. Results: The overall fractions of CHD and depression attributable to all studied psychosocial work factors together were found to be 8.1% [95% CI: 2.0-13.9] and 26.3% [95% CI: 16.2–35.5] respectively in the 35 European countries. There was no difference between genders and between countries. Conclusion: Our study showed that the overall fractions attributable to all studied psychosocial work factors were substantial especially for depression. These overall attributable fractions may be particularly useful to evaluate the burden and costs attributable to psychosocial work factors, and also to inform policies makers at European level. In the aftermath of the Germanwings crash in 2015, several regulations have been instituted around pilots' mental health issues and flight safety. One of these (CAT.GEN.MPA.215) stipulates that European operators are to implement a Peer Support Program to encourage pilots' self-referral of mental health issues and identify mental wellbeing issues as early as possible. However, knowledge is scarce regarding how effective these programs are on a range of outcomes. This systematic review aimed to identify articles investigating peer support programs and their effectiveness in preventing and detecting mental health issues, in commercial aviation and other high-risk organizations. A systematic search was performed in three databases, following the structure of the PRISMA guidelines. All articles (2.123) were exported to Rayyan Citation, where the screening process was performed. Four articles met the final inclusion criteria. Overall, the search revealed little empirical evidence of the effectiveness of peer support in detecting and preventing mental health. Although there is limited or no evidence in any direction, the peer support programs seem to be without evident harm and were generally appreciated. The insufficient empirical evidence is nonetheless concerning, with these programs being implemented throughout Europe in such a high-risk context as the aviation industry. Previous research has shown that daily activities are crucial for mental health among older people, and that such activities declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. While previous studies have confirmed a link between stringent restrictions and an increase in mental ill-health, the role of daily activities as a mediator in this relationship remains underexplored. We analyzed whether reductions in daily activities mediated the impact of these COVID-19 restrictions on mental ill-health during the pandemic's initial phase. We used data from Wave 8 SHARE Corona Survey covering 41,409 respondents from 25 European countries and Israel as well as data on COVID-19 restrictions from the Oxford Government Response Tracker (OxCGRT). Multilevel regression and multilevel-mediation analysis were used to examine the relationships between restrictions, daily activities and mental ill-health. Reductions in walking and shopping showed a notably stronger association with increases in mental ill-health compared to social activities. Furthermore, declines in walking could account for about a quarter of the relationship between restrictions and increased mental ill-health, but the mediating effects of the other activates were negligible. The study highlights the essential role of maintaining daily activities, particularly walking, to mitigate the negative psychological effects of pandemic-related restrictions among older populations in Europe.
