Porcine acellular dermal matrix has recently been introduced in dentistry as an alternative to the gold standard connective tissue graft especially for the use in gingival recession treatments and soft tissue augmentation in implant surgery. Connective tissue grafts are inconvenient and require a second surgical site leading to greater morbidity, longer surgical procedures, and a more painful postoperative phase for the patient. Other options such as allografts have ethical concerns and are less available in Europe. Thus, dental professionals have sought other techniques and materials. Porcine acellular dermal matrix results in periodontal recession treatment with a gain in recession coverage as well as increased keratinized tissue and soft tissue augmentation. This leads to more keratinized mucosa and greater tissue thickness. Many studies have been published using collagen matrices, but a few strictly use porcine acellular dermal matrix, which have been studied in prospective randomized clinical trials with a large number of patients and longer follow-up periods (more than 5 years). Nevertheless, more data are needed to confirm that the porcine acellular dermal matrix is a suitable alternative although its favourable results to date suggest a positive future. Chinese economic presence in Europe is primarily discussed as a security threat with its impact on sustainability remaining a rather marginal issue. This article investigates the repercussions of Chinese capital's surge in Europe for environmental protection and analyses the reasons behind its poor performance. We examine five key Chinese projects in Southeast Europe, a sub-region that includes countries with different forms of association with European institutions and with varying levels of development and state capacity. We find that the negative environmental impact of these projects cannot be attributed to the commonly held perception of the Chinese as inherently "bad" investors and of host states as "weak" and dependent. Rather, we identify a synergy of failures between investors, host states and regional institutions that results in poor regulation and compliance. This finding calls for the inclusion of sustainability in foreign investment screening mechanisms and the abandonment of contradictory developmental priorities in the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since the relatively recent regulatory approval for clinical use in both Europe and North America, 7-Tesla (T) MRI has been adopted for clinical practice at our institution. Based on this experience, this article reviews the unique features of 7-T MRI neuroimaging and addresses the challenges of establishing a 7-T MRI clinical practice. The underlying fundamental physics principals of high-field strength MRI are briefly reviewed. Scanner installation, safety considerations, and artifact mitigation techniques are discussed. Seven-tesla MRI case examples of neurologic diseases including epilepsy, vascular abnormalities, and tumor imaging are presented to illustrate specific applications of 7-T MRI. The advantages of 7-T MRI in conjunction with advanced neuroimaging techniques such as functional MRI are presented. Seven-tesla MRI produces more detailed information and, in some cases, results in specific diagnoses where previous 3-T studies were insufficient. Still, persistent technical issues for 7-T scanning present ongoing challenges for radiologists.

Background: Stroke in the young has not been thoroughly investigated with most previous studies based on a small number of patients from single centers. Furthermore, recent reports indicate that Fabry disease may be a significant cause for young stroke. The primary aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of Fabry disease in young stroke patients, while the secondary aim was to describe patterns of stroke in young patients. Methods: We initiated the Stroke in Young Fabry Patients (sifap1) study as a multinational prospective European study of stroke patients aged 18-55 years and collected a broad range of clinical, laboratory, and radiological data using stringent standardized methods. All patients were tested for Fabry disease and blood was stored for future genetic testing. Results: We managed to enroll 5,024 eligible young stroke patients in 15 countries and 47 centers across Europe between April 2007 and January 2010. The median number of patients included per center was 98 with a range between 8 and 315. The average duration of patient recruitment per center was 22 months, ranging between 5 and 33 months. The database was closed in July 2010. This paper describes protocol and methodology of the sifap1 study. Conclusion: The sifap1 study included the largest series of young stroke patients so far and will allow for analyses on a large number of aspects of stroke in the young. Copyright © 2010 S. This contribution argues for extending the public administration turn in EU studies to the civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). First it delineates the research gap with regard to governance networks and sections of the Council Secretariat that fulfil executive and operational management responsibilities for civilian crisis management. Then it highlights the need to look at cognitive factors, such as bounded rationality and learning, in explaining organizational behaviour and change in civilian CSDP. Such a research agenda on the everyday working of the bureaucratic level in EU civilian crisis management would also allow more comparative analyses on administrative processes and reforms in international organizations in the context of multidimensional peace operations.
