What remains of a national day after it has passed? Weeks after it has ended banners celebrating China's 'birthday' on October first can still be seen all over Hong Kong. As government and pro‐China organizations hang up banners and flags all around Hong Kong, celebrating the birthday of the nation. These flags remind the people in Hong Kong that they are part of China, despite some thinking otherwise. I argue that these banners serve to 1. Remind people of Hong Kong's subordinate position within the nation state of China, 2. Show how the nation is performed, and 3. force the nation onto people as a forceful rather than a banal gesture. Drawing on theories of affect and space, ethnography, and photos taken by the author, this study adds to the theory and process of everyday nation‐making. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Open-pit coal mine landslides are a common hazard, and a major mine landslide disaster occurred on February 22, 2023, at the Xinjing mine in Alxa Left Banner, China. In this study, multi-source remote sensing techniques, combined with actual environmental conditions, were used to conduct a preliminary investigation of the pre-deformation and driving factors of this mine landslide. Sentinel-1A radar remote sensing imagery was utilized to monitor the pre-deformation of the landslide disaster using time-series InSAR techniques. Based on the results of the field survey, it was found that the actual engineering slope angle exceeded the standard, emerging as the main factor triggering the landslide in the Xinjing mine. Additionally, high temporal and spatial resolution PlanetScope optical remote sensing imagery identified the infiltration of snowmelt into the rock mass as a potential factor increasing the susceptibility of the slope. The responses of grassland net primary productivity (NPP) to climate change (CC) and human activities (HA) have received much attention and are inconsistent on different spatial scales. The accurate and quantitative evaluation of the impacts of CC and HA on grassland NPP at a county scale is very important to reveal the external driving factors on grassland NPP and guide the protection of the grassland ecosystem in the arid sandy area of China. In this study, the improved CASA model was adopted to quantify the grassland NPP in Otog Banner, China from 2001 to 2020. The spatiotemporal dynamics of grassland NPP and the relationships between grassland NPP and climate factors in space were analyzed using the methods of simple linear regression and relative sensitivity coefficient. Furthermore, the relative contributions to grassland NPP dynamics caused by CC and HA were explored using the quantitative method based on partial derivative. The results revealed that the mean value of grassland NPP was 175.17 g C m−2 yr−1, and exhibited a significant decrease trend periodically at a rate of 2.14 g C m−2 yr−1 from 2001 to 2020. The spatial distribution of grassland NPP increased from west to east gradually and ranged in 17.48–498.09 g C m−2 yr−1. Grassland NPP exhibited significant linear patterns along the gradients of climate factors, and was the most sensitive to sunshine duration (SSD). Approximately 86.83% of the grassland showed a degradation trend and 39.71% showed a serious degradation trend. The CC contribution to grassland NPP dynamics was 0.593 g C m−2 yr−1, and precipitation was the key driving climate factor, while the contribution of HA was −2.733 g C m−2 yr−1, which was the primary factor leading to large-scale degradation of grassland in Otog banner. This study indicates that the status of the grassland ecosystem in Otog Banner is not optimistic, and measures for grassland ecosystem restoration and improvement need to be further strengthened. Objectives: To retrospectively analyze the vitamin D (VD) status of residents in northeastern Inner Mongolia and its relationship with the average monthly sunshine hours. Methods: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D[s-25(OH)D] samples from 4982 outpatients (2092 males) in Moli Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner People's Hospital, Hulunbuir, China from July 2018 to January 2022 were included in this study. Results: The overall median s-25(OH)D was 53.3 nmol/L, VD deficiency (<30 nmol/L), deficiency (30-50 nmol/L), sufficient (>50-250 nmol/L) and excess (>250 nmol/L) were 16% (796/4982), 30% (1495/4982), 53.4% (2658/4982) and 0.7% (33/4982). There were statistically significant differences in median s-25(OH)D by month, age- groups and gender (p<0.001). Low VD status (LVDS, including VD deficiency and insufficiency) in females was 54.6% and males was 33.9%, and the LVDS composition differed significantly by age-group and month (p<0.05). The changing trend of the median s-25(OH)D level was similar to the monthly average sunshine hours, with a slight lag. Conclusion: Nearly half of residents live in LVDS. Qixiang is a unique sacrificial culture created by the Han army eight banners in northeast China. This culture not only has elements such as shamanism and Han people burning incense, but also has military sacrificial elements. This paper argues that Qixiang is the evolution and legacy of Maji, a military sacrificial ritual in ancient China. The Han military banner people in the Qing Dynasty took Maji as the main body, combined the Manchu Shamanism with the Han incense burning, and created a cultural symbol representing their own ethnic group. At present, the study of Qixiang not only helps to understand the complexity of the development and evolution of Manchu shamanism, but also helps to reveal the ethnic identity of Han bannermen under the Eight Banners system of the Qing Dynasty. This paper explores the religious function and meaning of long banner paintings from Cave 17 of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, in conjunction with material culture in Northwestern China in the ninth and tenth centuries CE. The so-called forty-nine-chi banners have peculiar traits such as extremely long lengths, an optional triangular headpiece, and a paired or single strip of textile on which a series of standing bodhisattvas are painted. The author focuses on the large number of textiles used for such banners and questions how the extraordinary length and material used contributed to fulfilling the donor's wishes. By examining both the banners' physical characteristics, such as the type of textiles, pigments, and configurations, and the theological background based on the Buddhist and Daoist scriptures about longevity, repentance, and healing, the author suggests that the long banners are a materialized form of longevity and prosperity by physically lengthening the banner with multiple bolts of silk. This paper further argues that depicting multiple bodhisattvas in a pictorial form on a long strip of textile was regarded equally as a powerful means for obtaining good health, prolonging life, eliminating sins, and thus being reborn in the Pure Land. The Zhunsujihua porphyry Mo-Cu deposit is located in the Erenhot–East Ujimqin metallogenic belt in northeastern China. Granodioritic intrusions in the mining area are dominated by granodiorite and granodiorite porphyry, but the Mo mineralization is limited within the granodiorite. Zircon LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating yields crystallization ages of 301.5 ± 3.0 Ma for granodiorite and 296.0 ± 3.0 Ma for granodiorite porphyry. These ages constrain the magmatic activity at the Zhunsujihua deposit that took place during the subduction of the Paleo-Asian oceanic plate. Whole-rock geochemical data suggest that the granodioritic intrusions belong to calc-alkaline and high-K calc-alkaline series, and are characterized by enrichment in K, Rb, U, Th, and Pb, and depletion in Nb, Ta, Ti, and P. The negative Eu, Ba, and Sr anomalies suggest that they have experienced extensive fractionation of plagioclase. Trace element compositions of zircons from the Zhunsujihua deposit provide constraints on the oxygen fugacity (ƒO2) of the magma, which is shown to high values with ∆FMQ = +0.5 to +5.6. The wide range of zircon εHf (t) (+1.3~+9.4) values, positive whole-rock εNd (t) (+2.5~+3.9) values, and relatively low initial (87Sr/86Sr)i (0.70367~0.70561) ratios indicate that the magmas mainly originated from a juvenile lower crust source derived from depleted mantle, but mixed with pre-existing crustal components. Moreover, the juvenile lower crust represents the main source of Mo for the Zhunsujihua deposit. This article examines the multimodalities of banner ads in pervasive marketing and advertising. Departing from the "Double 11 shopping carnival" spectacle on Tmall, this paper conducts a social semiotic and multimodal analysis of banner ads in the Chinese context. As the investigation of the discursive construction process shows, banner ads on Tmall take advantage of human interactivity, intentionality, persuasion and value creation to increase online sales as part of a gamification process while such modalities enhance consumers' shopping experience and sociality. This article provides a synthesis of social semiotics, multimodal analysis and interactivity to guide our analysis of advertising in e-commerce. We argue that apart from traditional marketing strategies, Tmall has extended and obscured the rebellious notion of carnival and used it as a corporation-led strategy to create new cultural forms that encourage spending. This is in line with the rising consumerism in the Chinese society. Our findings will be useful for researchers conducting interdisciplinary studies of multimodal analysis and social semiotics, media and communications as well as advertising and marketing, with a focus on an increasingly globalised China. Potassic-hastingsite (IMA2018–160), ideally KCa2(Fe2+4Fe3+)(Si6Al2)O22(OH)2,was discovered in Danailingou, Inner Mongolia, China. Potassic-hastingsite is black to dark green with a vitreous luster, brittle with conchoidal fracture. The {110} cleavage is perfect and the calculated density is 3.541 g·cm−3. It is biaxial negative with α = 1.708 (2), β = 1.716 (3) and γ = 1.718 (3). Combined electron probe,icro-analyser (EPMA) and Mössbauer spectroscopy data yielded 35.02 wt% SiO2, 0.35 wt% TiO2, 10.69 wt% Al2O3, 0.03 wt% Cr2O3, 7.33 wt% Fe2O3, 26.08 wt% FeO, 11.35 wt% CaO, 0.43 wt% MnO, 0.23 wt% MgO, 0.061 wt% Na2O, 2.79 wt% K2O, F 0.00 wt%, Cl 2.79 wt%, Cl ≡ O − 0.67 wt%, and H2O+ 1.43 wt%, resulting in an analytical total of 98.66 wt%. The empirical structural formula, calculated based of the assumption of a total of 24 anions per formula unit and OH + F + Cl = 2 atoms per formula unit (apfu) at the W site is A(K0.61Na0.20Ca0.07)0.88BCa2.00C(Fe2+3.72Fe3+0.94Al0.12Mn0.06Mg0.06Ti0.04Ni0.01)4.96T(Si5.97Al2.03)O22(OH1.14Cl0.86). The derived simplified formula is (K,Na,□)Ca2(Fe2+,Fe3+)5[(Si,Al)6Al2]O22(OH,Cl)2. Potassic-hastingsite is monoclinic, space group C2/m, with the unit-cell parameters a = 9.9405(7) Å; b = 18.2561(19) Å; c = 5.3501(3) Å; β = 105.117(5)°; V = 937.304(11) Å3; Z = 2. The structure was solved (R1 0.044) using all measured independent data and the reflections with I>2σ (I). The strongest six X-ray powder-diffraction lines [d in Å; (I/I0); (hkl)] are 8.504 (100) (110), 3.417 (35) (131), 3.155 (60) (310), 2.735 (70) (151), 2.623 (35) (061) and 2.570 (35) ( 2 ¯ 02).
