Purpose: Sarcopenia is a pathological change characterized by muscle loss in older people. According to the reports, there is controversy on the relationship between dyslipidemia and sarcopenia. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to explore the association between sarcopenia and dyslipidemia. Methods: We searched the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan Fang, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP Database) for case‒control studies to extract data on the odds ratio (OR) between sarcopenia and dyslipidemia and the MD(mean difference) of TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and TG/HDL-C between sarcopenia and nonsarcopenia. The JBI(Joanna Briggs) guidelines were used to evaluate the quality. Excel 2021, Review Manager 5.3 and Stata 16.0 were used for the statistical analysis. Results: Twenty studies were included in the meta-analysis, 19 of which were evaluated as good quality. The overall OR of the relationship between sarcopenia and dyslipidemia was 1.47, and the MD values of TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and TG/HDL-C were 1.10, 1.95, 1.27, 30.13, and 0.16 respectively. In female, compared with the non-sarcopnia, the MD of TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TG of sarcopenia were − 1.67,2.21,1.02,-3.18 respectively. In male, the MD of TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TG between sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia were − 0.51, 1.41, 5.77, -0.67. The OR between sarcopenia and dyslipidemia of the non-China region was 4.38, and it was 0.9 in China. In the group(> 60), MD of TC between sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia was 2.63, while it was 1.54 in the group(20–60). During their first year of medical residency (internship), 35% of training physicians in the United States suffer at least one depression episode. We assessed whether there is a similar increase of depression among first year residents in China, and identified predictors of depression in the two systems. 1006 residents across three cohorts (2016–2017, 2017–2018 and 2018–2019) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Peking Union Medical College were assessed in parallel with three cohorts of 7028 residents at 100 + US institutions. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) depressive symptoms were measured at baseline and quarterly. Demographic, personal and residency factors were assessed as potential predictors of PHQ-9 depression scores. Similar to training interns in the US, the proportion of participants in China who met depression criteria at least once during the first year of residency increased substantially, from 9.1 to 35.1%. History of depression and symptoms at baseline were common factors significantly associated with depression during residency. By contrast, neuroticism, early family environment, female gender and not being coupled were associated with depression risk only in the US, while young age was a predictor of depression only in China. Fear of workplace violence also was a predictor in China. Long duty hours and reduced sleep duration emerged as training predictors of depression in both countries. The magnitude of depression increase and work-related drivers of depression were similar between China and the US, suggesting a need for effective system reforms in both systems. In this study, we used acute pneumonia model and lethal sepsis model to investigate the efficacy of antibiotic combined with epitope-specific mAb cocktail in treating MRSA252 infection. Methods: MRSA252 was challenged by tail vein injection or tracheal intubation to establish sepsis model or pneumonia model. One hour after infection, the mice received a single intravenous injection of normal saline, vancomycin, and vancomycin combined monoclonal antibody, linezolid alone or linezolid combined monoclonal antibody. Daily record survival rate (total 7 days), bacterial load, histology, cytokine analysis of serum and alveolar lavage fluid, and in vitro determination of the neutralizing ability of antibodies to SEB toxin and Hla toxin explained the mechanism of antibody action. Results: The mAb cocktail combined with low doses of vancomycin or linezolid improved survival rates in acute pneumonia model (70%, 80%) and lethal sepsis model (80%, 80%). Epitope-specific monoclonal antibodies reduced bacterial colonization in the kidneys and lungs of mice and inhibited the biological functions of the toxins Hla and SEB in vitro. Compared to the antibiotic alone or PBS groups, the combination group had higher levels of IL-1α, IL-1β and IFN-γ and lower levels of IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α. Further, the combination of antibiotic and mAb cocktail improved infection survival against the clinical MRSA isolates in a lethal sepsis model. HAdV-56 is a new recombinant type isolated from epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) patients and has been sporadically isolated in Japan several times. Here, an outbreak of EKC in the city of Dalian, China involving a large number of workers in two factories was reported; this was the first outbreak of EKC associated with HAdV-56 worldwide. Background: Acute lower respiratory infections (ALRIs) are an important cause of acute illnesses and mortality worldwide and in China. However, a large-scale study on the prevalence of viral infections across multiple provinces and seasons has not been previously reported from China. Here, we aimed to identify the viral etiologies associated with ALRIs from 22 Chinese provinces. Methods and Findings: Active surveillance for hospitalized ALRI patients in 108 sentinel hospitals in 24 provinces of China was conducted from January 2009-September 2013. We enrolled hospitalized all-age patients with ALRI, and collected respiratory specimens, blood or serum collected for diagnostic testing for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human influenza virus, adenoviruses (ADV), human parainfluenza virus (PIV), human metapneumovirus (hMPV), human coronavirus (hCoV) and human bocavirus (hBoV). We included 28,369 ALRI patients from 81 (of the 108) sentinel hospitals in 22 (of the 24) provinces, and 10,387 (36.6%) were positive for at least one etiology. The most frequently detected virus was RSV (9.9%), followed by influenza (6.6%), PIV (4.8%), ADV (3.4%), hBoV (1.9), hMPV (1.5%) and hCoV (1.4%). Co-detections were found in 7.2% of patients. RSV was the most common etiology (17.0%) in young children aged <2 years. Influenza viruses were the main cause of the ALRIs in adults and elderly. PIV, hBoV, hMPV and ADV infections were more frequent in children, while hCoV infection was distributed evenly in all-age. There were clear seasonal peaks for RSV, influenza, PIV, hBoV and hMPV infections. Conclusions: Our findings could serve as robust evidence for public health authorities in drawing up further plans to prevent and control ALRIs associated with viral pathogens. RSV is common in young children and prevention measures could have large public health impact. OBJECTIVE -- To evaluate the association between body iron stores, dietary iron intake, and risk of diabetes in northern China. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS -- The data of a cross-sectional household survey in 2002 in Liaoning Province in northern China was used. The final sample in our study contained 2,997 subjects aged ≥18 years. Fasting plasma glucose and serum ferritin were measured. Dietary information was collected by 3-day food records. RESULTS -- Serum ferritin was associated with elevated risk of diabetes even adjusted for age, sex, nondietary factors, and dietary factors. No association among total iron intake, nonheme iron intake, and diabetes risk was found. However, higher heme iron intake was significantly associated with elevated risk of diabetes after adjusting for known factors. CONCLUSIONS -- In Chinese, associations among higher serum ferritin level, higher heme iron intake, and elevated risk of diabetes were found. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: The present study investigated the iodine status of breast milk and breast-fed infants during the first 12 weeks postpartum in Tianjin, China.Methods and Study Design: A total of 175 pregnant women were recruited before delivery. Their breastmilk and 24-h urine samples were collected at 4, 8, and 12 weeks postpartum; spot urine samples were simultaneously collected from their infants. The iodine content of the samples was measured.Results: The mean breast milk iodine concentrations (BMICs) at 4, 8, and 12 weeks were 221.7±103.5 μg/L, 175.2±76.2 μg/L, and 148.1±66.2 μg/L, respectively. Significant differences existed between the mean BMICs of the three sampling times (F=12.449, p<0.001). The BMIC showed a decreasing trend during the first 12 weeks postpartum. The median urinary iodine concentrations (UICs) of the mothers were 152, 112, and 109 μg/L at the different sampling times. The BMIC and UIC were not correlated in the mothers. The median UICs in the infants were 251, 183, and 164 μg/L. The infant UICs were statistically different at the three sampling times (p=0.001). Moreover, the infant UICs correlated with the BMICs (Rs=0.205, p=0.010) but not with the maternal UICs (Rs=0.131, p=0.067).Conclusion: The BMIC in and infant iodine intake from breast milk decreased in the first 12 weeks. Waste classification management is effective in addressing the increasing waste output and continuous deterioration of environmental conditions. The waste classification behaviour of resident is an important basis for managers to collect and allocate resources. Traditional analysis methods, such as questionnaire, have limitations considering the complexity of individual behaviour. An intelligent waste classification system (IWCS) was applied and studied in a community for 1 year. Time-based data analysis framework was constructed to describe the residents' waste sorting behaviour and evaluate the IWCS. The results showed that residents preferred to use face recognition than other modes of identification. The ratio of waste delivery frequency was 18.34% in the morning and 81.66% in the evening, respectively. The optimal time windows of disposing wastes were from 6:55 to 9:05 in the morning and from 18:05 to 20:55 in the evening which can avoid crowding. The percentage of accuracy of waste disposal increased gradually in a year. The amount of waste disposal was largest on every Sunday. The average accuracy was more than 94% based on monthly data, but the number of participating residents decreased gradually. Therefore, the study demonstrates that IWCS is a potential platform for increasing the accuracy and efficiency of waste disposal and can promote regulations implementation., (© 2023. With rapid urbanization, the increasing building stock, building operation energy consumption and the corresponding carbon emissions have become the important factors restricting the sustainable development of cities. To reduce energy consuming, it is necessary to explore the mechanisms underlying building's operational energy consumption and carbon emission. Although previous studies have analyzed the influencing factors and driving mechanism of urban building carbon emission from different perspectives, a systematical review of the relevant studies which could provide comprehensive guidance for building energy conservation and consumption reduction is fairly scarce. Following the Social-Economic-Natural Complex Ecosystem theory, we comprehensively discussed the driving mechanisms of the building's operational energy consumption and carbon emission. We further analyzed the various single-source driving mechanisms from the perspective of socio-economic, building feature, regional climate and microclimate conditions. Finally, we tackled the weaknesses of current researches and addressed the prospect for future development. The driving mechanism summarized in this work would contribute to the development of related research and support low carbon city construction.

A bacteria strain, designated CFH 90008 T , was isolated from a salt lake sediment sample collected from Yuncheng city, Shanxi Province, PR China. Strain CFH 90008 T was Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, motile with lateral flagella and rod-shaped. Colonies were yellow, circular and smooth. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain CFH 90008 T belonged to the genus Halomonas , showing highest sequence similarity to Halomonas daqingensis DQD2-30 T (98.6 %), Halomonas saliphila LCB169 T (98.5 %), Halomonas desiderata FB2 T (98.1 %) and Halomonas kenyensis AIR-2 T (98.0 %). Good growth was observed at 10-50 °C, pH 6.0-9.0 and with NaCl concentration from 1.0 to 12.0 % (w/v). The predominant quinone was Q9. The major fatty acid (>10 %) was C 18 : 1  ω7 c , C 16 : 0 and C 16 : 1  ω7 c . The genome of strain CFH 90008 T was 4.36 Mbp with a genomic DNA G+C content of 66.7 mol%. Based on low average nucleotide identity and DNA-DNAhybridization results, chemotaxonomic characteristics, and differential physiological properties, strain CFH 90008 T could not be classified into any recognized species of the genus Halomonas . Therefore, a new species, for which the name Halomonas lactosivorans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH 90008 T (=DSM 103220 T =KCTC 52281 T ).

A novel actinobacterium, designated strain CFH S0261 T , was isolated from a sediment sample of the Yellow River. The taxonomic position of the strain was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. Cells of strain CFH S0261 T were Gram-reaction-positive, aerobic, non-motile. Growth occurs at 15-37 °C, pH 6.0-8.0 and with 0-9.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain CFH S0261 T was a member of the genus Amycolatopsis . The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity indicated that strain CFH S0261 T is most closely related to the type strains of Amycolatopsis niigatensis LC11 T (98.95 %), Amycolatopsis echigonensis LC2 T (98.81 %) and Amycolatopsis albidoflavus IMSNU 22139 T (98.73 %). The whole-genome of CFH S0261 T showed a G+C content of 69.5 mol%. The ANI values and in silico DDH values between CFH S0261 T and the other species of the genus Amycolatopsis were found to be low (ANIb <90.61 % and DDH <53.40 %). The cell wall diamino acid in the peptidoglycan of strain CFH S0261 T was meso -diaminopimelic acid and the whole-cell hydrolysate comprised arabinose, galactose, glucose, rhamnose and ribose. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H 4 ). The major cellular fatty acids were C 16 : 0 , iso-C 15 : 0 and iso-C 16 : 0 . The polar lipid profile contained diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannosides and four unidentified glycolipids. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data, strain CFH S0261 T represents a novel species of the genus Amycolatopsis , for which the name Amycolatopsis nivea sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH S0261 T (=KCTC 39515 T =CCTCC AA 2014028 T ).

A novel thermophilic bacterium, designated CFH 72773 T was isolated from the enrichment of a Jinze hot spring sample which was collected from Dientan town, Tengchong county, Yunnan province, south-western PR China. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile, rod-shaped and non-sporulating. The taxonomic position of the strain was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. Growth occurred at 37-75 °C, pH 6.0-8.0 and with 0-2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated the strain represented a member of the genus Thermus and showed close relationships to the type strains Thermus caliditerrae YIM 77925 T (96.3 % similarity) and Thermus igniterrae RF-4 T (96.2 % similarity). The whole genome of CFH 72773 T consisted of 2.25 Mbp and the DNA G+C content was 69.5 mol%. A total of 2262 genes, including a variety of enzymes for chemolithotrophy and anerobic respiration, were predicted. The strain had a unique negative oxidase activity and could hydrolyze starch at high temperature. Furthermore, various genes related to methane, sulfur, fumarate and nitrate metabolism were found, all these indicated that it is worth studying the novel strain. The predominant menaquinone is MK-8. The predominant cellular fatty acids included iso-C 15 : 0 , iso-C 16 : 0 and iso-C 17 : 0 . The major polar lipids were comprised of aminophospholipid, glycolipid and two phospholipids. On the basis of low ANI values, different phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characters and phylogenetic analysis, we made a proposal that strain CFH 72773 T represents a novel member of the genus Thermus , for which the name Thermus thermamylovorans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH 72773 T (=CCTCC AB2018244 T =KCTC 43129 T ).

A novel Gram-negative bacterium, designated CFH 10530 T , was isolated from the intestine of grass carp. The sample was collected from the aquaculture training base at the College of Fisheries, Henan Normal University, Xinxiang, PR China. Cells of strain CFH 10530 T were coccoid, ovoid or short-rod-shaped, aerobic, non-spore-forming and non-motile. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis demonstrated that strain CFH 10530 T was closely related to Paracoccus endophyticus SYSUP0003 T (97.7 % sequence similarity), Paracoccus halophilus HN-182 T (96.5 %) and Paracoccus panacisoli DCY94 T (96.1 %). The strain grew optimally at 25-28 °C, at pH 7.0 and with 0-2 % (w/v) NaCl. Cells were positive for catalase and oxidase, nitrate was reduced and H 2 S was not produced. The isoprenoid quinone was Q-10. Major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 8, C 18 : 0 and C 18 : 0 3-OH. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, one unidentified aminolipid and five unidentified polar lipids. The genome size was 3 331 229 bp with a G+C content of 69.6 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between CFH 10530 T and the other species of the genus Paracoccus were found to be below the recommended levels for species delineation (ANIm <85, ANIb <80 and dDDH <24 %). Based on its physiological properties, chemotaxonomic characteristics and low ANI and dDDH results, strain CFH 10530 T is considered to represent a novel species for which the name Paracoccus luteus sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain is CFH 10530 T (=KCTC 62919 T =CGMCC 1.16597 T ).

A novel Gram-staining negative, aerobic, motile by flagellum, rod-shaped bacterium, designated CFH 70021 T was isolated from a hot spring soil sample collected from Tengchong, Yunnan province, PR China. Growth of CFH 70021 T occurred at 15-50 °C (optimum 50 °C), pH 5.0-7.0 (optimum pH 7.0) and with 0-3.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0 %, w/v). The genome of CFH 70021 T consisted of four complete circular chromosomes and five plasmids, the genomic DNA G+C content was 69.3 mol%. Comparison of the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that CFH 70021 T represented a member of the genus Azospirillum and showed close relationship with the type strains of Azospirillum agricola CC-HIH038 T (97.8 %), Azospirillum rugosum IMMIB AFH-6 T (97.6 %), Azospirillum doebereinerae GSF71 T (97.6 %), Azospirillum thiophilum DSM 21654 T (97.4 %) and Azospirillum picis IMMIB TAR-3 T (97.2 %). The polar lipids of CFH 70021 T contained diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylmehtylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, two aminolipids and an unidentified phospholipid. The predominant cellular fatty acids (>10 %) included C 19:0 cyclo ω 8c (11.4 %), C 16 : 0 (27.6 %) and summed feature 8 (C 18:1 ω7 c /C 18:1 ω6 c , 40.9 %). The major isoprenoid quinone was Q-10. On the basis of the low ANIb result (<78 %) and different phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characters, we conclude that strain CFH 70021 T represents a novel member of the genus Azospirillum , for which the name Azospirillum thermophilum sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH 70021 T (=KCTC 62259 T = CCTCC AB2018121 T ).

A novel actinomycete strain, designated CFH S0054 T , was isolated from a soil sample collected from Xiaokongshan in Tengchong, Yunnan Province, in south-west PR China. Phylogenetic analysis based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain CFH S0054 T belonged to the genus Nocardia . Based on the results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain CFH S0054 T was most closely related to Nocardia concava IFM 0354 T (98.3 %), Nocardia inohanensis NBRC 100128 T (97.9 %), Nocardia otitidiscaviarum NBRC 14405 T (97.9 %) and Nocardia heshunensis CFH S0067 T (97.8 %). Strain CFH S0054 T contained C 16 : 0 , C 18 : 1  ω9 c , C 18 : 0 10-methyl (TBSA) and summed feature 3 as major cellular fatty acids and MK-8 (H4ω-cycl) as the major respiratory quinone. The polar lipid profile included phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside and unknown phospholipids. The cell wall contained meso -diaminopimelic acid, and the whole-cell hydrolysates were arabinose, galactose, glucose, fructose, ribose and mannose. The genome of strain CFH S0054 T was 7.9 Mbp with a G+C content of 68.4 mol%, the average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between strain CFH S0054 T and N. concava IFM0354 T were low (ANIm<87.7 % and ANIb=84.1 %). On the basis of phylogenetic, physiological and chemotaxonomic data, strain CFHS0054 T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Nocardia , for which the name Nocardiayunnanensis sp. nov. is proposed, The type strain is CFH S0054 T (DSM 46763 T =JCM 30082 T ).

A Gram-stain positive, aerobic, non-motile and short-rod-shaped strain, CFH S00084 T , was isolated from a sediment sample of the Yellow River in Henan Province, China. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain CFH S00084 T clustered within members of Microbacterium and was most closely related to the type strains Microbacterium yannicii JCM 18959 T and Microbacterium arthrosphaerae DSM 22421 T (98.97 % and 98.36 % similarity, respectively). The strain grew optimally at 25-37 °C, at pH 7.0 and in 0-3 % (w/v) NaCl. The major whole-cell sugars were rhamnose and glucose. The cell-wall peptidoglycan mainly contained glycine, alanine and ornithine. The menaquinones of strain CFH S00084 T were MK-13, MK-12 and MK-11. The major fatty acids detected were anteiso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0. The genome of strain CFH S00084 T was 4.03 Mbp with a G+C content of 70.5 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between CFH S00084 T and the other species of the genus Microbacterium were found to be low (ANIm <85 %, ANIb <75 % and dDDH <24 %). The phylogenomic analysis provided evidence for clear phylogenetic divergence between strain CFH S00084 T and its closely related type strains. On the basis of the differential physiological properties, chemotaxonomic characteristics and low ANI and dDDH results, strain CFH S00084 T is considered to represent a novel species for which the name Microbacteriumureisolvens sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH S00084 T (=KCTC 39802 T =DSM 103157 T ).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile, coccus-shaped bacterium, designated CFH 90064 T , was isolated from a salt lake sediment sample collected from Yuncheng city, Shanxi province, PR China. 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons and phylogenetic analyses showed that the strain belonged to the genus Paracoccus and clustered with Paracoccus zeaxanthinifaciens R-1512 T (98.2 % similarity), Paracoccus homiensis DD-R11 T (97.6 % similarity) and Paracoccus fistulariae 22-5 T (96.5 % similarity), respectively. Growth of strain CFH 90064 T was observed at 10-37 °C, pH 6.0-9.0 and with NaCl concentrations of up to 6.0 % (w/v). Strain CFH 90064 T contained Q-10 as the only isoprenoid quinone, and the major fatty acid was C18 : 1ω7c. Polar lipids of strain CFH 90064 T comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, an unidentified glycolipid, an unidentified aminolipid and an unidentified phospholipid. The genome of strain CFH 90008 T was 3.75 Mbp with a DNA G+C content of 65.1 %. Based on the phylogenetic analyses, low average nucleotide identity results, chemotaxonomic characteristics and differential physiological properties, strain CFH 90064 T could not be classified into any recognized species of the genus Paracoccus, suggesting that this strain represents a novel species, for which the name Paracoccushalotolerans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CFH 90064 T (=CCTCC AB 2016131 T =DSM 103234 T ).

To analyze the genetic characterization of epidemic mumps virus strains in Liaoning Province and provide the basis for mumps control. A total of 32 mumps viruses strains were isolated during 2008-2104. The fragment of SH genes and HN genes were amplified by RT-PCR, the PCR products were sequenced and analyzed. Basing on the 316 nucleotides of SH gene, The phylogenetic analyses were processed with the data of WHO mumps reference strains downloaded from GenBank and 32 mumps viruses strains. It showed that the 31 mumps virus strains belong to F genotype except MuVi/Liaoning. CHN/16.11 which was G genotype . Comparing to the A reference strains (Jeryl-Lynn and S-79), F genotype MuV were mutated on 12 amino acids sites and 27 amino acids siteson on HN gene. F genotype MuV added one N-glycosylation site in 464th-466th amino acids. The antigenic sites on HN were mutated on 121th, 123th, 279th, 287th, 336th, 356th and 442th. Maybe, it will influence the MuV antigenic.

To wished to characterize the hemagglutinin (H) gene of the measles virus epidemic strain H1a in Liaoning Province (China) from 1997-2014 to provide a basis for the control and elimination of measles. All 63 measles virus strains were the H1a genotype. Fragments of the H gene (1854 nucleotides) and nucleoprotein (N) gene (450 nucleotides) were amplified by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the PCR products sequenced and analyzed. Phylogenetic-trees were constructed with reference strains of the genotype-H measles virus downloaded from GenBank, including Chinese measles virus strains isolated in 1993-1994 and the vaccine reference strains S-191 and C-47. Sixty-three strains of the measles virus in 1997-2014 belonged to genotype H1a. The mean evolutionary rate for gene N-450 was higher than that for the H gene. All 63 strains of the measles virus were mutated from: serine (Ser S) to asparagine (Asn N) in the 240th amino acid; arginine (Arg R) to glycine (Gly G) in the 243th; and tyrosine (Tyr Y) to Asn N in the 481th amino acid. All measles virus strains in cluster 2 were mutated from proline (Pro P) to leucine (Leu L) in the 397th amino acid. The other neutralization sites showed no apparent difference when comparing the nucleotides/amino acids of the H gene of S191 vaccine strains.

Objectives: Diarrhea is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality for children, although sparse data is available on the etiology of diarrhea in China. This study was conducted to determine main causes that underlie childhood diarrhea and related diseases., Method: Surveillance data for diarrhea was collected from 213 participating hospitals between 2009 and 2013. These stool specimens, from children aged 0-59 months, were then analyzed for a panel of etiological agents consisting of 5 viruses, 8 bacteria and 3 protozoa. The proportion of children who tested positive for each pathogen was calculated and seasonal patterns for major organisms were determined., Results: Pathogens were identified in 44.6% of the 32,189 samples from children with diarrhea. The most commonly detected pathogens were rotavirus (29.7% of cases), norovirus (11.8%), Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC; 5.0%), adenovirus (4.8%), non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS; 4.3%), and Shigella spp. (3.6%). A strong seasonal pattern was observed for these organisms, including rotavirus (winter), norovirus (autumn), and DEC, NTS, and Shigella (summer)., Conclusion: A wide range of enteropathogens were detected in this five-year surveillance study; rotavirus and norovirus were most common among children under the age five. Objective: To investigate the related factors and pathogens of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) after heart surgery so as to provide evidences for clinical prevention and therapy., Methods: In total 1,688 cases were collected from January 2004 to January 2011. Overall 105 patients developed VAP. Retrospectively analyzed these patients after heart surgery to determine the clinical data, pathogens and treatment measures., Results: The frequency of ventilator-associated pneumonia was 6.2% (105/1 688), and mortality was 25.7% (27/105), 198 pathogen strains were isolated by bacterial culture, in which Gram negative bacteria accounted for 69.2% (137/198), Gram positive bacteria 27.8% (55/198), and fungi 3.0% (6/198). The independent risk factors for VAP after cardiac surgery were: age >70 (p < .01), emergent surgery (p < .01), perioperative blood transfusions (p < 0.01), reintubation (p < .01) and days of mechanical ventilation (MV) (p < .01). Median length of stay in the ICU for patients who developed VAP or not was, respectively, (24.7 ± 4.5) days versus (3.2 ± 1.5) days (p < .05), and mortality was, respectively, 25.7% versus 2.9% in both populations (p < .05)., Conclusion: Age >70, emergent surgery, perioperative blood transfusions, reintubation and days of MV are the risk factors for VAP in patients following cardiac surgery. P. aeruginosa, P. klebsiella, S. aureus, and Acinetobacter baumannii were the main pathogens of VAP. According to the cause of VAP, active prevention and treatment measures should be developed and applied to shorten the time of MV and improve chances of survival.

In China, brucellosis is an endemic disease typically caused by Brucella melitensis infection (biovars 1 and 3). Brucella canis infection in dogs has not traditionally recognized as a major problem. In recent years however, brucellosis resulting from Brucella canis infection has also been reported, suggesting that infections from this species may be increasing. Data concerning the epidemiology of brucellosis resulting from Brucella canis infection is limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the diversity among Chinese Brucella canis strains for epidemiological purposes. First, we employed a 16-marker VNTR assay (Brucella MLVA-16) to assess the diversity and epidemiological relationship of 29 Brucella canis isolates from diverse locations throughout China with 38 isolates from other countries. MLVA-16 analysis separated the 67 Brucella canis isolates into 57 genotypes that grouped into five clusters with genetic similarity coefficients ranging from 67.73 to 100%. Moreover, this analysis revealed a new genotype (2-3-9-11-3-1-5-1:118), which was present in two isolates recovered from Guangxi in 1986 and 1987. Second, multiplex PCR and sequencing analysis were used to determine whether the 29 Chinese Brucella canis isolates had the characteristic BMEI1435 gene deletion. Only two isolates had this deletion. Third, amplification of the omp25 gene revealed that 26 isolates from China had a T545C mutation. Collectively, this study reveals that considerable diversity exists among Brucella canis isolates in China and provides resources for studying the genetic variation and microevolution of Brucella.

To analyze the genetic characterization of epidemic rubella virus strains isolated in Liaoning from 2007-2012, a total of 145 rubella virus strains were isolated using Vero/Slam cell line from the patients' throat swabs during rubella outbreaks and sporadics cases in Liaoning Province from 2007 to 2012. Fragments of 945 nucleotides containing 1E gene from 145 rubella virus isolates were amplified by RT-PCR, the PCR products were sequenced and analyzed. Based on the 739 nucleotides of 1E gene, the phylogenetic trees were constructed with 32 WHO rubella reference strains of 13 genotypes downloaded from GenBank and 145 rubella virus strains. The results showed that the 145 rubella virus strains in 2007 -2012 belonged to genotype 1E, nucleotide acids and amino acids similarities were 97.2%-100.0% and 97.6%-100.0%, respectively. Compared to the 1E reference strains(Rvi/ Dezhou.CHN/02, RVi/MYS/01), the nucleotide acids and amino acids similarities were 96.6%-99.2% and 98.2%-100.0%, respectively except for one amino acid change (Val246-Ala246) of RVi/Shenyang. Liaoning. CHN/13.11/13, and Asp262-Asn262 of RVi/Shenyang. Liaoning. CHN/13.11/4 and RVi/Liaoyang. Liaoning. CHN/26. 11/2. there had no change found in the important antigenic epitope sites, the hemagglutination inhibition and neutralization epitopes of the other rubella viruses. All the 145 strains isolated had the same amino acid change (Leu338--Phe338) in E1 protein. These findings suggested that genotype 1E of rubella virus was the predominant genotype in Liaoning province. the rubella prevailed in recent six years was mainly caused by rubella viruses genotype 1E with multi-transmission routes.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the association between emergency-room visits for respiratory tract infection (RTI) with diurnal temperature range (DTR), a weather parameter closely associated with urbanization and global climate change., Methods: We conducted a semiparametric time-series analysis to estimate the percentage increase in emergency-room visits for RTI associated with changes in DTR after adjustment for daily weather conditions (temperature and relative humidity) and outdoor air pollution., Results: DTR was significantly associated with daily emergency-room visits for RTI. An increase of 1 °C in the current-day (L0) and in the 2-day moving average (L01) DTR corresponded to a 0.94% [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.34%-1.55%] and 2.08% (95% CI, 1.24%-2.93%) increase in emergency-room visits for RTI, respectively., Conclusion: DTR was associated with increased risk of RTI. Background: Heightened surveillance of acute febrile illness in China since 2009 has led to the identification of a severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) with an unknown cause. Infection with Anaplasma phagocytophilum has been suggested as a cause, but the pathogen has not been detected in most patients on laboratory testing., Methods: We obtained blood samples from patients with the case definition of SFTS in six provinces in China. The blood samples were used to isolate the causal pathogen by inoculation of cell culture and for detection of viral RNA on polymerase-chain-reaction assay. The pathogen was characterized on electron microscopy and nucleic acid sequencing. We used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, indirect immunofluorescence assay, and neutralization testing to analyze the level of virus-specific antibody in patients' serum samples., Results: We isolated a novel virus, designated SFTS bunyavirus, from patients who presented with fever, thrombocytopenia, leukocytopenia, and multiorgan dysfunction. RNA sequence analysis revealed that the virus was a newly identified member of the genus phlebovirus in the Bunyaviridae family. Electron-microscopical examination revealed virions with the morphologic characteristics of a bunyavirus. The presence of the virus was confirmed in 171 patients with SFTS from six provinces by detection of viral RNA, specific antibodies to the virus in blood, or both. Serologic assays showed a virus-specific immune response in all 35 pairs of serum samples collected from patients during the acute and convalescent phases of the illness., Conclusions: A novel phlebovirus was identified in patients with a life-threatening illness associated with fever and thrombocytopenia in China. Objective: To understand the HA1 genetic variation characterization of influenza virus subtype H3N2 circulated from 2001 to 2006 in Liaoning local area., Methods: Viral RNA was extracted and transcribed into cDNA by reverse transcriptase and amplified by PCR. The product of PCR was purified by QIAgen purification kits,and sequenced by ABI 3100avant. The sequence data were analyzed phylogenetically by Sequence software with epidemic records. Finally, the phylogenetic trees were drawn according to deduced amino acid sequences of influenza virus H3N2 from 2000 to 2006 in the NCBI database., Results: The seven HA1domain sequences of H3N2 influenza viruses circulated from 2001 to 2006 in Liaoning local area had been analyzed. Compared with WHO 2004-2006 H3N2 vaccine A/California/7/2004, 12 bases had changed, 4 positions had amino acid substitution in 62 * > E, 182 T > 1,224 S > A,225 C > Y. 224 and 225 are RBS (Receptor binding site). The homology is lower than 98%. Phylogenetic tree showed Liaoning H3N2 2006 strains and Zhejiang 2005 strains were similar to WHO Northern hemisphere winter 2006-2007 Vaccine A/Wisconsin/67/2005 (H3N2)-like virus and grouped together to form an independent cluster even though several bases were still different., Conclusion: The HA1 domain of HA gene of influenza viruses (H3N2) isolated from 2001-2006 in Liaoning local area showed base mutation, amino acid sequence difference compared to A/California/7/2004 (2005-2006 vaccine), suggesting it might be the main cause leading to the spread of influenza. The sequence analysis showed Liaoning 2006 H3N2 strains were similar to those from Southern area which suggested that further surveullance should be conducted to monitor the virus mutation in circulation.
