This article sheds light on the efforts of intellectuals and women’s circles in the struggle for equal inheritance rights in modern China. By analyzing various social campaigns for women’s equal rights during this period, specifically in relation to daughters’ access to inheritance rights, this article explores the complexities and contradictions surrounding daughters’ inheritance rights in twentieth-century China. The argument put forth is that the interaction between the new state-building process and the influence of social campaigns enabled female to explore new rights holder. However, local practices often adhered to traditional customs that marginalized daughters without inheritance rights. Nevertheless, with the assistance of feminist movements, daughters’ inheritance rights have gradually gained acceptance as an essential component of social claims in modern China. The Qinghai–Tibet Plateau is the main permafrost area in China. Concrete structures constructed on permafrost are affected by the early negative-temperature environment. In particular, the negative-temperature environment seriously affects the strength growth process and the frost resistance of concrete (FRC). Therefore, this study considered the influence of the gas content, water–binder ratio (w/b), age, and other factors on the strength variation law and FRC under −3 °C curing conditions. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to analyze the pore structure of concrete before and after freeze–thaw cycles (FTCs). The results showed that the compressive strength of the concrete (CSC) under −3 °C curing was only 57.8–86.4% of that cured under standard conditions. The CSC under −3 °C curing showed an obvious age-lag phenomenon. The FRC under −3 °C curing was much lower than that under standard curing. The porosity of the concrete under −3 °C curing was greater, with a higher percentage of harmful and multi-harmful pores than that under standard curing. The concrete properties deteriorated primarily because curing at −3 °C hindered the hydration reaction compared with standard methods. This hindrance resulted in diminished hydration development, weakening the concrete's structural integrity. Under both curing conditions, when the gas content was between 3.2% and 3.8%, the frost resistance was the best. This is because a gas content within this range effectively enhances the internal pore structure, therefore relieving the swelling pressure caused by FTCs. Based on the freeze–thaw damage (FTD) model proposed by previous authors, a new model for the CSC under −3 °C curing reaching that of the concrete under standard curing for 28 d was established in this study. This advanced model was capable of accurately assessing the FTD of concrete structures in permafrost regions. Finally, the life expectancy of concrete in Northwest China was predicted. The life of the concrete reached 46.9 years under standard curing, while the longest life of the concrete under −3 °C curing was only 12.9 years. The planform rotation of river basins has been used as a marker of crustal strain and been used to assess the style and rates of on‐fault deformation. We use the geometry of river basins to evaluate horizontal deformation associated with the South China–North China relative block motion in the east Qinling mountains. The long‐time average slip rates of the Luonan fault and Shangdan fault are constrained as 0.31 mm/year and 0.3–0.6 mm/year, respectively. According to the latest GPS, we believe that a minor portion of the crustal strain of relative block motion between North China and South China was partitioned into the east Qinling strike‐slip fault system, leaving a major portion of deformation to be accommodated by southern North China (SNC). We conclude that the eastward extrusion of South China cannot explain the present deformation of the entire eastern China, and more attention should be paid into the SNC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The association of hypokalemia (LK) with peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis (PDAP) risk remains uncertain. Here, we calculated LK duration in the first PD year and evaluated its association with PDAP. Methods: A multicenter, retrospective, incident cohort study of 1633 participants was conducted from January 2008 to October 2020 in China. The duration of LK and severe hypokalemia (SLK) was calculated as the total number of months that a patient's serum potassium (SK) level was less than 3.5 or 3.0 mEq/L during the first PD year. The study outcome was the risk of subsequent PDAP started in the second year and later. Cox proportional hazards models and competing risk models were used to assess the association. Results: The subsequent PDAP occurred in 420 (25.7%) participants during a median of 28 months of follow-up. Overall, LK duration in the first year was positively associated with a subsequent PDAP risk (per 3-month increments, adjusted HR, 1.13; 95%CI: 1.05–1.23). After categorization, patients with LK duration longer than 6 months had the highest adjusted HR of 1.53 (p = 0.005 vs. those without LK) for subsequent PDAP risk. A similar trend was also found for SLK duration. In a competing risk model, a similar trend was also observed. None of the variables, including demographic and PD characteristics, diabetes history, and several clinical measurements, significantly modified this association. The causative organisms of PDAP were similar to those previously reported. Conclusions: PD patients with longer LK duration in the first year had a higher subsequent PDAP risk. Semantic image segmentation in computer networks is designed to determine the category to which each pixel in an image belongs. It is a basic computer vision task and has a very wide range of applications in practice. In recent years, semantic image segmentation algorithms in computer networks based on deep learning have attracted widespread attention due to their fast speed and high accuracy. However, due to the large number of downsampling layers in a deep learning model, the segmentation results are usually poor at the edge of an object, and there is currently no universal quantitative evaluation index to measure the performance of segmentation at the edge of an object. Solving these two problems is of great significance to semantic image segmentation algorithms in China. Based on traditional evaluation indicators, this paper proposes a region-based evaluation index to quantitatively measure the performance of segmentation at the edge of an object and proposes an improved loss function to improve model performance. The existing semantic image segmentation methods are summarized. This paper proposes regional-based evaluation indicators. Taking advantage of the particularity of semantic image segmentation tasks, this paper presents an efficient and accurate method for extracting the edges of objects. By defining the distance from pixels to the edges of objects, this paper proposes a fast algorithm for calculating the edge area. Based on this, three methods are proposed as well as an area-based evaluation indicator. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the loss function proposed in this paper, compared with that of the current mainstream cross-entropy loss function, is improved by 1% on the DeepLab model. Following the rapid development and urbanization in China over recent decades, sustainable renovation of urban residences has become an important issue. This study aimed to develop an architectural teaching program integrating the study of local climate, vernacular buildings, climate-responsive design strategies, and simulation tools. A local house in a high-density neighborhood in Guangzhou, China, in a hot-humid climate area was selected for renovation in this teaching program. Investigations of the urban neighborhood development, the construction and climate-responsive characteristics of the vernacular houses, long-term thermal environment characteristics, and sustainable design strategies were conducted before the design project began. The guidelines of Active House combining passive strategies and active technologies were incorporated into the concept design. The students' works represented their understanding of the characteristics of a hot-humid climate, responsive strategies for the local buildings, preliminary methodologies of micro-climate analysis, and technologies supporting sustainable building design. Thus, this program provided a valuable approach to the appropriate pedagogy for a research-integrated design studio within the context of sustainable architectural education development. Background: Local complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) significantly affect the patient's prognosis. Nomograms can be a useful tool for predicting such complications. Purpose: To compare the preoperative and intraoperative factors of patients who underwent TKA with and without complications and to construct and validate a nomogram based on selective predictors of local complications within 90 days postoperatively. Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: The nomogram was developed in a primary cohort that consisted of 410 patients who underwent primary TKA at the authors' institution between January 2015 and September 2018. Predictor variables included 4 major local complications that can occur within 90 days: reoperation (including implant revision or removal for any reason and manipulation under anesthesia), infection, bleeding requiring ≥4 unit transfusion of red blood cells within 72 hours of surgery, and peripheral nerve injury. The authors used least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis for data dimension reduction and feature selection. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to develop the nomogram. Performance of the nomogram was assessed using C-index, calibration plot, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and decision curve analysis (DCA). The model was subjected to bootstrap validation and external validation using a prospective cohort of 249 patients. Results: Four significantly prognostic factors were incorporated into the nomogram: age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, tourniquet time, and estimated intraoperative blood loss. The model displayed good discrimination, with a C-index of 0.819 and an AUC of 0.819. The calibration curves showed optimal agreement between nomogram prediction and actual observation. A high C-index value of 0.801 could still be reached in bootstrap validation. Application of the nomogram in the validation cohort showed good discrimination (C-index, 0.731) and good calibration. DCA demonstrated that the nomogram was clinically useful. Conclusion: The authors developed and validated a novel nomogram that can provide individual prediction of local complications within 90 days for patients after TKA. The human-animal hybrid, or the transformation between humans and animals, has a long root in Chinese culture, and has recurred throughout Chinese literature. As a burgeoning genre in current China, contemporary Chinese animal fictions have increasingly featured the human-animal hybrid to disclose environmental degradations and the interdependence between humans and nonhuman animals. This article aims at investigating the human-animal hybrid represented in contemporary Chinese animal fictions in the context of the anti-modernity narrative and realistic ecological crises in China. Through referencing ancient Chinese philosophy and literature that are related to the human-animal hybrid, this article takes Ye Guangqin's »The Snake Erchan« and Jia Pingwa's Remembering Wolves as two case studies to argue that contemporary Chinese animal fiction writers employ the mythical human-animal hybrid as both a reminder of the inseparability between humans and animals, and a warning to critique detrimental effects brought by the idea of modernity. The traditional holistic and non-binary Chinese belief towards the human-animal relationship embedded in these animal fictions opens up an intercultural thinking about modernity as such. Purpose: Doublet combination chemotherapy is commonly considered a second-line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in China. This multi-institutional retrospective analysis evaluated and compared the efficacy between combination and mono-therapy after platinum-based first-line chemotherapy in Chinese patients with advanced NSCLC. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 335 patients who received second-line chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and the secondary endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS), response rate (RR) and toxicity. Treatment-free interval (TFI) was used for further stratification analysis. The Cox proportional hazards model was used for multivariate analysis. Results: Two hundred and fifty-three patients received doublet combination chemotherapy and 82 received single-agent chemotherapy. PFS was significantly prolonged in combination group compared to single-agent group (median 5.70 vs 3.70 months; HR 0.62; 95% CI 0.45–0.85; p < 0.001). The RR was significantly higher in the combination group than in the single-agent group (29.25% vs. 10.98%; p = 0.001). OS was also prolonged in combination group versus single-agent group (median 13.30 vs. 11.45 months, respectively; HR 0.70; 95% CI 0.52–0.95; p = 0.023). Among patients with TFI of ≥ 6 months, PFS and OS of the combination group were significantly increased than the single-agent group (median PFS, 6.67 vs. 3.80 months, p = 0.002; median OS, 13.60 vs. 11.45 months, p = 0.013). Grade III/IV toxicity was similar between the two groups (p = 0.113). Through multivariate analyses, we found that Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score (p < 0.001), further-line treatment (p < 0.001) and combination chemotherapy (p = 0.024) were the independent prognostic factors. Conclusion: Compared with mono-therapy, combination chemotherapy was a better second-line option for Chinese patients with good performance status, especially in those with TFI of ≥ 6 months. Background: Since the National Malaria Elimination Action Plan was launched in China in 2010, local malaria transmission has decreased rapidly. Zero indigenous cases were reported since 2017. However, after 2010, the proportion of imported cases in China increased from 45.7% in 2010 to 99.9% in 2016, and almost all provinces of China have reported imported cases in recent years. Prevention of the reintroduction of malaria into China is crucial for the maintenance of its malaria-free status. Hence, it is of utmost importance to correctly identify the source of malaria infections within the country. Case introduction and response: In 2016 and 2017, three laboratory-confirmed cases of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum were identified in patients with no previous travel history to endemic areas were reported in Jiangsu Province, China, where malaria due to P. falciparum was eliminated about 30 years ago. These were diagnosed after 41, 31 and 39 days of seeking treatment, respectively, and all of them had received blood transfusions. Further investigations indicated that two of the cases had received blood from foreign students (from Indonesia and Ghana), and the other had received blood from an individual who had worked in Equatorial Guinea. All three blood donors were traced, and found to be carrying asymptomatic P. falciparum infections by microscopic examination and PCR. Furthermore, five polymorphic microsatellite markers (C1M4, C4M62, C13M13, C14M17, and C13M63) were typed and used to link parasites from the donors with those of the transfusion-receiving patients. Conclusions: Three transfusion-transmitted malaria cases were identified in China, all of which were due to the transfusion of blood donated by individuals who had contracted malaria outside the country. These cases can provide a reference for those faced with similar challenges in malaria case identification and classification in other regions. In addition, a stricter screening policy including the use of appropriate detection methods for malaria parasites should be developed and adopted for blood donation in regions undergoing malaria elimination. The flow of cement-based slurry within concentric annular geometry is a major problem of study in the field of engineering, especially regarding the prevention of water ingress in an annulus formed during shaft construction utilizing the artificial freezing technique in China. In this study, an analytical governing equation of motion for the axial flow of an incompressible Newtonian fluid in a long concentric annulus is derived under the condition of high groundwater pressure. A stepwise calculation method is proposed to describe the grouting process based on two injection modes, namely, flow rate control and pressure control. The injection time is divided into a series of time segments; correspondingly, the grouted zone is subdivided into infinitesimal elements. Some key parameters, such as the location, dimension, slurry viscosity, and pressure gradient of each element, can be obtained using the developed MATLAB program. On this basis, the distribution of pressure and slurry viscosity in the grouted zone and the variations in injection pressure at the grouting point and grouting flow rate are determined. Two injection mode cases are investigated to reveal the grout propagation in the concentric annulus. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted and employed to validate and calibrate the calculated results. Objectives: Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) poise significant risk to human health and the poultry industry. We evaluated the transmission risk along the poultry supply chain.Methods: During October 2015 and July 2016, four rounds of cross-sectional surveys were performed to characterize AIV spread in farms, transport vehicles, slaughterhouses, wholesale and retail live poultry markets (LPMs). Poultry cloacal and oral swabs, environmental swabs, bioaerosol samples and human sera were collected. Poultry and environmental samples were tested for AIVs by rRT-PCR, further subtyped by next generation sequencing. Previous human H9N2 infections were identified by hemagglutination inhibition and microneutralization tests. Logistic regression was fitted to compare AIV transmission risk in different settings.Results: AIVs was detected in 23.9% (424/1771) of the poultry and environmental samples. AIV detection rates in farms, transport vehicles, wholesale and retail LPMs were 4.5%, 11.1%, 30.3% and 51.2%, respectively. 5.2%, 8.3% and 12.8% of the poultry workers were seropositive in farms, wholesale and retail LPMs, respectively. The regression analysis showed that virus detection and transmission risk to human increased progressively along the poultry supply chain.Conclusions: Strengthening control measures at every level along the poultry supply chain, using a one health approach, is crucial to control AIV circulation. We present our new investigation into the depositional environment and provenance of the Yingshuiquan Formation in the central Qiangtang region of northern Tibet, in order to further our understanding of the environment of the Longmu Co-Shuanghu Palaeo-Tethys during the Early Triassic. The Yingshuiquan Formation is composed of oolitic limestone, calcareous sandstone, calcarenite, thin-bedded ribbon limestone, bioclastic limestone, and coarse oolite limestone that were deposited in a shallow-marine basin and contain abundant Lower Triassic conodont fossils (e.g. Hadrodontina anceps, Pachycladina sp., gen. et sp, Pachyclaina oblique, Hibbardelloides sp). We selected detrital zircons from four calcareous sandstone samples for U-Pb dating, yielding minimum age peaks of 263, 269, 275, and 280 Ma, respectively, and a minimum age of 249 Ma, based on several zircons around the same age. Analysis of the conodont biofacies and zircon LA-ICP-MS dating of calcareous sandstone indicates that the data is consistent with deposition in the Early Triassic. The Yingshuiquan Formation records Early Triassic shallow-water sediment in the Longmu Co-Shuanghu Palaeo-Tethys, and has a Southern Qiangtang and Northern Qiangtang terranes provenance. During the Early Triassic, the carbonate sediments of the Yingshuiquan Formation were deposited in an active environment around the Longmu Co-Shuanghu Palaeo-Tethys, which has became a residual sea basin. Zircon U-Pb dating of two samples of metagabbro from the Riwanchaka ophiolite yielded early Carboniferous ages of 354.4 ± 2.3 Ma and 356.7 ± 1.9 Ma. Their positive zircon εHf(t) values (+7.9 to +9.9) indicate that these rocks were derived from a relatively depleted mantle. The metagabbros can be considered as two types: R1 and R2. Both types are tholeiitic, with depletion of highfield- strength elements (HFSE) and enrichment of large-ion lithophile elements (LILE) similar to those of typical back-arc basin basalts (BABB), such as Mariana BABB and East Scotia Ridge BABB. Geochemical and isotopic characteristics indicate that the R1 metagabbro originated from a backarc basin spreading ridge with addition of slab-derived fluids, whereas the R2 metagabbro was derived from a back-arc basin mantle source, with involvement of melts and fluids from subducted ocean crust. The Riwanchaka ophiolite exhibits both mid-ocean ridge basalts- and arc-like geochemical affinities, consistent with coeval ophiolites from central Qiangtang. Observations indicate that the Qiangtang ophiolites developed during the Late Devonian-early Carboniferous (D3-C1) in a back-arc spreading ridge above an intra-oceanic subduction zone. Based on our data and previous studies, we propose that an oceanic back-arc basin system existed in the Longmuco-Shuanghu-Lancang Palaeo-Tethys Ocean during the D3-C1 period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reports the depositional environment and provenance for the Tianquanshan Formation in the Longmuco–Shuanghu–Lancangjiang suture zone, and uses these to better understand the tectonic evolution of this region. Zircons in the andesite of the Tianquanshan Formation yielded concordia ages of 246, 247, and 254 Ma, indicating that the Tianquanshan Formation formed during the late Permian–Early Triassic. The Tianquanshan Formation consists of flysch and ocean island rock assemblages, indicating that the Longmuco–Shuanghu–Lancangjiang Palaeo-Tethys Ocean continued to exist as a mature ocean in the late Permian–Early Triassic. The detrital zircons in the greywackes of the Tianquanshan Formation yielded peak ages of 470–620, 710–830, 910–1080, 1450–1660, and 2400–2650 Ma, indicating the provenance of the Tianquanshan Formation was either Indian Gondwana or terranes that have an affinity with Indian Gondwana in the Tibetan Plateau (i.e. the Southern Qiangtang, Lhasa, and Himalayan terranes). The Ordovician quartzites, Carboniferous sandstones, Carboniferous–Permian diamictites, and the Upper Permian–Lower Triassic greywackes in the Southern Qiangtang, Lhasa, and Himalayan terranes all contain detrital zircons with youngest ages of ca. 470 Ma, indicating their source areas have been in a stable tectonic environment since the Ordovician, and this inference is supported by the continuous deposition in a littoral–neritic passive margin in these regions from the Ordovician to the lower Permian. Combining the present results with regional geological data, we infer that the Southern Qiangtang, Lhasa, and Himalayan terranes were all in a stable passive continental margin along the northern part of Indian Gondwana during the long period from the Ordovician to the early Permian. Following the 2008 Wenchuan M8 earthquake, the seismic risk of the northeastern section of the Longmenshan fault zone and the adjacent Hanzhong basin has become an issue that receives much concern. It is facing, however, the problem of a lack of sufficient data because of little previous work in these regions. The northeastern section of the Longmenshan fault zone includes three major faults: the Qingchuan fault, Chaba-Lin'ansi fault, and Liangshan south margin fault, with the Hanzhong basin at the northern end. This paper presents investigations of the geometry, motion nature, and activity ages of these three faults, and reveals that they are strike slip with normal faulting, with latest activity in the Late Pleistocene. It implies that this section of the Longmenshan fault zone has been in an extensional setting, probably associated with the influence of the Hanzhong basin. Through analysis of the tectonic relationship between the Longmenshan fault zone and the Hanzhong basin, this work verifies that the Qingchuan fault played an important role in the evolution of the Hanzhong basin, and further studies the evolution model of this basin. Finally, with consideration of the tectonic setting of the Longmenshan fault zone and the Hanzhong basin as well as seismicity of surrounding areas, this work suggests that this region has no tectonic conditions for great earthquakes and only potential strong events in the future. Distributions of the rare-earth elements (REE) in omphacite and garnet and REE behaviors during metamorphic processes were discussed. The REE concentrations of garnet and omphacite in six eclogite samples from the Dabie Mountain, central China, were measured by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The correlation of δEu ratios between garnet and omphacite indicated that chemical equilibrium of REE distribution between garnet and omphacite could be achieved during ultra-high pressure (UHP) metamorphism. Most of the partition coefficients ( K=C/C) of light rare-earth elements (LREE) are higher than 1. However the partition coefficients of heavy rare-earth elements (HREE) are lower than 1. This indicated that the LREE inclined to occupy site M2 in omphacite, but the HREEs tended to occupy eightfold coordinated site in garnet during the eclogite formation. The REE geochemistry of the eclogites indicated that LREE could be partially lost during the prograde metamorphic process of protolith, but be introduced into the rocks during the symplectite formation. LREE are more active than HREE during the UHP metamorphism. The results are favorable to highlighting the REE behavior and evolution of UHP metamorphic rocks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: When COVID-19 emerged in China in late 2019, most citizens were home-quarantined to prevent the spread of the virus. This study explored the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression in a sample of home-quarantined college students to identify the psychological distress risk factors.Method: The PTSD and depressive symptoms in the 2485 participants from 6 universities were investigated using online survey versions of the PTSD Checklist Civilian Version and the 9-question Patient Health Questionnaires (PHQ-9), and data on sleep durations, exposure, home-quarantine time and socio-demographic variables were also collected.Results: The PTSD and depression prevalence were found to be 2.7% and 9.0%. Subjectively, feeling extreme fear was the most significant risk factor for psychological distress, followed by short sleep durations, being in their graduating year (4th year) and living in severely afflicted areas. Sleep durations was a mediator between exposures and mental health problems.Conclusions: The results suggested that the psychological consequences of the COVID-19 could be serious. Psychological interventions that reduce fear and improve sleep durations need to be made available to the home-quarantined university students, and graduating students and those in the worst-hit areas should be given priority focus. • Quality factor of the Namche Barwa area (NB) is as low as other areas in the eastern Tibetan plateau (ETP). • Stress drop of NB is one of the largest among other seismic active areas of ETP. • The canyon's local site effect of NB is significantly amplified at frequencies below 2.34 Hz. In this study, 427 seismic data for 42 aftershocks (2.5 ≤ M L ≤ 3.6) of the 2017 M S 6.9 Mainling earthquake recorded at 14 temporary seismic stations were used to study the source parameters, quality factor, and local site effects of the Namche Barwa area. We calculated the regionally averaged site- and distance-related components of high-frequency attenuation parameter for the area as 0.0294 ± 0.0094 s and 0.0001930 s/km, respectively. The generalized inversion technique was applied to determine the source spectrum of the aftershocks, the quality factor of the area, and the site amplification of the selected stations. The inverted stress drops (Δ σ) of the aftershocks ranged between 1.58 and 10.44 MPa, with an average of 5.0 MPa and a logarithmic standard deviation of log 10 0.21. The average Δ σ of the Mainling aftershocks is considerably larger than those of several large earthquakes that occurred in adjacent areas along the South-North Seismic Belt, including the 2008 Wenchuan aftershocks (0.52 MPa), 2013 Lushan aftershocks (3.13 MPa), and 2021 Yangbi aftershocks (1.02 MPa). The inverted quality factor of the Namche Barwa area was found to be Q (f) = 112.32 f 0.712, which is similar to those of adjacent areas. The calculated resonant frequencies of the 14 selected stations ranged from 0.5 to 2.3 Hz, and the corresponding amplifications ranged from 2.5 to 16.2. Macroalgae aquaculture faces grand challenges from extreme temperature events in the context of global warming. For mapping aquaculture areas and assessing potential risks, it is urgent to evaluate the thermal sensitivity of commercially and ecologically important macroalgae. In the present study, thermal tolerance of commercial macroalgae species in China and sea surface temperature (SST) under current conditions and three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP1–2.6, SSP3–7.0, SSP5–8.5) scenarios in 2050 were collected for calculating thermal safety margin (TSM), an index of thermal sensitivity, for each species in the aquaculture area. Our results indicated that a few species were particularly sensitive to current conditions, and the kelp Saccharina japonica and Ulva pertusa were the most sensitive species to heat and cold stress, respectively. As indicated by the regional thermal sensitivity (RTS) (i.e., the mean of TSMs for all species in each grid cell), the commercial macroalgae located in southern China (20–25°N) were more sensitive to heat stress, while the commercial macroalgae located in the regions of 27–40°N was more sensitive to cold stress. Commercial macroalgae nearby the Yangtze River Estuary (~30°N) were sensitive to both heat and cold stress. Under the three SSP scenarios, macroalgae aquaculture would be more sensitive to heat stress, and the impacts from cold stress would relatively weaken in 2050. In the desert region of northwest China, the frequency of wind-sand disasters is high. All types of concrete buildings built in this area face severe wind erosion due to high wind speed, resulting in varying degrees of wind-erosion damage to concrete. To accomplish intelligent identification of concrete wind-erosion damage, a concrete wind erosion experiment was conducted in the laboratory, and a concrete wind-erosion damage dataset was generated under the interference of water stains, scratches, shooting distance, and background noise. This paper combined with transformer theory to improve YOLO-v4 and proposed an object detection algorithm called MHSA-YOLOv4 suitable for wind-erosion damage of concrete. The results demonstrate that MHSA-YOLOv4 exhibits improved object detection performance than YOLO-v3, improved YOLO-v3, and YOLO-v4. On the test set, ACC, Precision, Recall, and mAP of MHSA-YOLOv4 are 91.30%, 91.52%, 92.31%, and 0.89, respectively. MHSA-YOLOv4 can accurately identify wind-erosion damage of concrete images under different test conditions, which reflects strong robustness. • Long-term service performance of pile foundation concrete structure in the saline soil environment. • The reduction of porosity is an essential factor in increasing the strength of concrete. • During the service period, the formation of hydration and carbonization products and secondary ettringite improves the strength of concrete. • The 30 mm thickness of the reinforcement protection layer ensures that the steel bar will not be corroded. • Using concrete with a lower water-binder ratio(0.35) and corrosion inhibitor should be considered for long-term service in saline soil. This paper investigates the strength evolution of pile foundation concrete structures in saline soil areas of inland China after 15 years of service using field exposure field tests. NMR, XRD, SEM, and other test methods investigate the mechanism. According to research findings, the strength of concrete with different mix ratios has increased after 15 years compared to the strength of the pouring period (56 days). The continuous hydration of cementitious materials can continuously refine the pore structure of concrete and reduce the porosity of concrete, which is the main reason for the improvement of concrete strength. In saline soil, pile foundation concrete is susceptible to erosion by SO 4 2– and CO 3 2–. With sufficient space, a large amount of C-(A)-S-H gel generated during concrete hydration, calcite and other products produced during carbonization, and secondary ettringite generated during sulfate attack on concrete can effectively fill the pores in the concrete. These properties confer improved strength to concrete. The reinforcement corrosion tests reveal that most steel bars have not corroded. Only a small portion of the steel bars near the bottom of the pile foundation has eroded due to the thin reinforcement protection layer. After fifteen years, the concrete with a high water-binder ratio (0.59) mixed with corrosion inhibitors deteriorated in pore structure and suffered mild thaumasite sulfate attack. The concrete has low porosity and a high proportion of tiny pores due to its low water-to-binder ratio (0.35) and corrosive inhibitor. These characteristics effectively prevent external corrosive ions from corroding the concrete while protecting the internal steel bars, making them suitable for long-term use in inland saline soil areas of China. Pseudomonas can lead to peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis, which is characterized by a poor prognosis, such as a substantial failure rate and a high death rate. This study aimed to provide an overview of Pseudomonas peritonitis's clinical features, the regimens of antibiotic, antibiotic resistance, and outcomes in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. This study observed patients with Pseudomonas peritonitis in two large PD centers in South China from January 2008 to December 2022. The demographics, symptomatology, antibiotics regimens, resistance to common antibiotics, and clinical outcomes of all included patients were reviewed. A total of 3,459 PD patients were included, among them 57 cases of peritonitis caused by Pseudomonas , including 48 cases (84.2%) of Pseudomonas aeruginosa . The incidence rate of Pseudomonas peritonitis was 0.0041 episode per patient-year. Of them, 28.1% (16 cases) of the patients were accompanied by exit site infection (ESI), and all had abdominal pain and turbid ascites at the time of onset. The most commonly used antibiotic combination was ceftazidime combined with amikacin. Approximately 89% of Pseudomonas species were sensitive to ceftazidime, and 88% were sensitive to amikacin. The overall primary response rate was 28.1% (16 patients), and the complete cure rate was 40.4% (23 patients). There was no significant difference in the complete cure rate of peritonitis using three and other antibiotic treatment regimens (44.8% vs 46.4%; P = 0.9). The successful treatment group had higher baseline albumin level (35.9 ± 6.2; P = 0.008) and residual urine volume (650.7 ± 375.5; P = 0.04). Although the incidence of peritonitis caused by Pseudomonas was low, the symptoms were serious, and prognosis was very poor. Pseudomonas was still highly susceptible to first-line antibiotics currently in use against Gram-negative bacteria. Patients with successful treatment had higher albumin levels and higher urine output., Importance: Although the incidence of peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis caused by Pseudomonas is very low, it seriously affects the technique survival of peritoneal dialysis patients. However, there are few studies and reports on Pseudomonas peritonitis in the Chinese mainland area. Introduction: There was limited research on the epidemiology of hyperphosphatemia in early-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. We aimed to explore the clinical characteristics and prognostic value of hyperphosphatemia in patients with CKD stages 1-2., Methods: We enrolled adult patients with CKD stages 1-2 from 24 regional central hospitals across China. Hyperphosphatemia was defined as a serum phosphate level exceeding 1.45 mmol/L. The study outcomes included all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality. Cox proportional hazard models were used to investigate the association of hyperphosphatemia with all-cause and CV mortality., Results: Among 99,266 patients with CKD stages 1-2 across China, the prevalence of hyperphosphatemia was 8.3%. The prevalence of hyperphosphatemia was increased with the level of urinary protein and was higher in younger and female patients. Among 63,121 patients with survival information, during a median of 5.2 years follow-up period, there were 436 (8.0%) and 4,695 (8.1%) deaths in those with and without hyperphosphatemia, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, compared with patients without hyperphosphatemia, patients with hyperphosphatemia were associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio: 1.28, 95% CI: 1.16-1.41). Although nearly 60.3% of hyperphosphatemia could be relieved without phosphate-lowering drug therapy among patients with CKD stages 1-2, transient hyperphosphatemia was also associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (p = 0.048)., Conclusions: Hyperphosphatemia was not rare in patients with CKD stages 1-2 and was associated with an increased risk of mortality. Background: Post-traumatic related limb osteomyelitis (PTRLO) is a complex bone infection. Currently, there are no available microbial data on a national scale that can guide appropriate antibiotic selection, and explore the dynamic changes in dominant pathogens over time. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive epidemiological analysis of PTRLO in China., Methods: The study was approved by the Institutional Research Board (IRB), and 3526 PTRLO patients were identified from 212 394 traumatic limb fracture patients at 21 hospitals between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2017. A retrospective analysis was conducted to investigate the epidemiology of PTRLO, including changes in infection rate (IR), pathogens, infection risk factors and antibiotic resistance and sensitivity., Results: The IR of PTRLO increased gradually from 0.93 to 2.16% (Z=14.392, P <0.001). Monomicrobial infection (82.6%) was significantly higher than polymicrobial infection (17.4%) ( P <0.001). The IR of Gram-positive (GP) and Gram-negative (GN) pathogens showed a significant increase from the lowest 0.41% to the highest 1.15% (GP) or 1.62% (GN), respectively. However, the longitudinal trend of GP vs. GN's composition did not show any significance (Z=±1.1918, P >0.05). The most prevalent GP strains were Methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) (17.03%), Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (10.46%), E. faecalis (5.19%) and S. epidermidis (4.87%). In contrast, the dominant strains GN strains were Pseudomonas Aeruginosa (10.92%), E. cloacae (10.34%), E. coli (9.47%), Acinetobacter Baumannii (7.92%) and Klebsiella Pneumoniae (3.33%). In general, the high-risk factors for polymicrobial infection include opened-fracture (odds ratio, 2.223), hypoproteinemia (odds ratio, 2.328), and multiple fractures (odds ratio, 1.465). It is important to note that the antibiotics resistance and sensitivity analysis of the pathogens may be influenced by complications or comorbidities., Conclusions: This study provides the latest data of PTRLO in China and offers trustworthy guidelines for clinical practice. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the current status of disease-related knowledge and to analyze the relationship among the general condition, illness perception, and psychological status of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)., Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 118 patients using convenience sampling. The general questionnaire, disease-related knowledge questionnaire of COVID-19, Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ), and Profile of Mood States (POMS) were used to measure the current status of participants., Results: The overall average score of the disease-related knowledge of patients with COVID-19 was (79.19 ± 14.25), the self-care situation was positively correlated with knowledge of prevention and control ( r = 0.265; P = 0.004) and total score of disease-related knowledge ( r = 0.206; P = 0.025); the degree of anxiety was negatively correlated with the knowledge of diagnosis and treatment ( r = -0.182; P = 0.049). The score of disease-related knowledge was negatively correlated with negative cognition (volatility, consequences, emotional statements) and negative emotions (tension, fatigue, depression) ( P < 0.05); positively correlated with positive cognition (disease coherence) and positive emotion (self-esteem) ( P < 0.05)., Conclusions: It was recommended that we should pay more attention to the elderly and low-income groups, and increase the knowledge about diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 and self-care in the future health education for patients.

Background: The first community transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Delta variant of concern (VOC) in Guangzhou, China occurred between May and June 2021. Herein, we describe the epidemiological characteristics of this outbreak and evaluate the implemented containment measures against this outbreak., Methodology/principal Findings: Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention provided the data on SARS-CoV-2 infections reported between 21 May and 24 June 2021. We estimated the incubation period distribution by fitting a gamma distribution to the data, while the serial interval distribution was estimated by fitting a normal distribution. The instantaneous effective reproductive number (Rt) was estimated to reflect the transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2. Clinical severity was compared for cases with different vaccination statuses using an ordinal regression model after controlling for age. Of the reported local cases, 7/153 (4.6%) were asymptomatic. The median incubation period was 6.02 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 5.42-6.71) days and the means of serial intervals decreased from 5.19 (95% CI: 4.29-6.11) to 3.78 (95% CI: 2.74-4.81) days. The incubation period increased with age (P<0.001). A hierarchical prevention and control strategy against COVID-19 was implemented in Guangzhou, with Rt decreasing from 6.83 (95% credible interval [CrI]: 3.98-10.44) for the 7-day time window ending on 27 May 2021 to below 1 for the time window ending on 8 June and thereafter. Individuals with partial or full vaccination schedules with BBIBP-CorV or CoronaVac accounted for 15.3% of the COVID-19 cases. Clinical symptoms were milder in partially or fully vaccinated cases than in unvaccinated cases (odds ratio [OR] = 0.26 [95% CI: 0.07-0.94])., Conclusions/significance: The hierarchical prevention and control strategy against COVID-19 in Guangzhou was timely and effective. Authorised inactivated vaccines are likely to contribute to reducing the probability of developing severe disease. Large-scale population movements can turn local diseases into widespread epidemics. Grasping the characteristic of the population flow in the context of the COVID-19 is of great significance for providing information to epidemiology and formulating scientific and reasonable prevention and control policies. Especially in the post-COVID-19 phase, it is essential to maintain the achievement of the fight against the epidemic. Previous research focuses on flight and railway passenger travel behavior and patterns, but China also has numerous suburban residents with a not-high economic level; investigating their travel behaviors is significant for national stability. However, estimating the impacts of the COVID-19 for suburban residents' travel behaviors remains challenging because of lacking apposite data. Here we submit bus ticketing data including approximately 26,000,000 records from April 2020-August 2020 for 2705 stations. Our results indicate that Suburban residents in Chinese Southern regions are more likely to travel by bus, and travel frequency is higher. Associated with the economic level, we find that residents in the economically developed region more likely to travel or carry out various social activities. Considering from the perspective of the traveling crowd, we find that men and young people are easier to travel by bus; however, they are exactly the main workforce. The indication of our findings is that suburban residents' travel behavior is affected profoundly by economy and consistent with the inherent behavior patterns before the COVID-19 outbreak. We use typical regions as verification and it is indeed the case.

The major limitations of clinical outcome predictions of osteomyelitis mediated by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) are not specific and definitive. To this end, current studies aim to investigate host immune responses of trend changes of the iron-regulated surface determinant (Isd) of IsdA, IsdB, IsdH, cell wall-modifying proteins of amidase (Amd) and glucosaminidase (Gmd), and secreted virulence factor of chemotaxis inhibitory protein S. aureus (CHIPS) and staphylococcal complement inhibitor (SCIN) longitudinally to discover their correlationship with clinical outcomes. A total of 55 patients with confirmed S. aureus infection of the long bone by clinical and laboratory methods were recruited for the study. Whole blood was collected at 0, 6, 12 months for the serum that was used to test IsdA, IsdB, IsdH, Gmd, Amd, CHIPS, and SCIN using a customized Luminex assay after clinical standard care parameters were collected. The patients were then divided into two groups: (1) infection controlled versus (2) adverse outcome based on clinical criteria for statistical analysis. We found that standard clinical parameters were unable to distinguish therapeutic outcomes. Significant overexpression of all antigens was confirmed in infection patients at 0-, 6-, and 12-month time points. A distinct expression trend and dynamic changes of IsdB, Amd, Gmd, and CHIPS were observed between infection controlled and adverse outcome patients, while the IsdA, IsdH, SCIN remained demonstrated no statistical significance. We conclude that dynamic changes of specific antigens could predict clinical outcomes of S. aureus osteomyelitis. Clinical Relevance: The trend changes of host immune responses to S. aureus specific antigens of IsdB, Gmd, Amd, and CHIPS could predict clinical outcomes of S. aureus osteomyelitis., (© 2020 Orthopaedic Research Society. Background: More surgeons have known the importance of parathyroid grand and recurrent laryngeal nerve protection in the surgery, but there is still plenty of scope to improve the surgical techniques. This study aims at investigating whether the improved method of finding recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) can protect parathyroid grand and RLN., Methods: One hundred fifty-eight patients were enrolled and divided randomly into the test and control group according to different methods of finding RLN in the surgery. In the experimental group the author could quickly find the laryngeal recurrent nerve in the lower part of the neck and separate along the surface of the recurrent laryngeal nerve to the point where the recurrent laryngeal nerve gets into the larynx close to the thyroid gland named lateral approach, while in the control group the author severed the middle and lower thyroid vein and raised the lower thyroid pole to look for the RLN near the trachea by the blunt separation., Results: The author identified 152 and 159 parathyroid glands in the test and control group, respectively and there were a lower ratio of auto-transplantation and less operative time in the test group compared with that in the control group. The author also found that the parathyroid hormone level (1 day and 2 months) in the test group was higher than that in the control group. There were no differences in metastatic LN and recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy in the 2 groups., Conclusion: The improved method of finding RLN is a simple, efficient and safe way, and easy to implement.

CYP27A1, CYP2R1 and CYP27B1 hydroxylases are involved in the synthesis of 1, 25-hydroxyvitamin D 3 , which plays a role in the immune regulation and pathogenesis of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships between polymorphisms in vitamin D pathway genes and HCV infection outcomes in a Chinese population. Nine single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of CYP27A1, CYP2R1 and CYP27B1 were genotyped in a high-risk Chinese population. The distributions of these SNPs were compared among groups with different outcomes of HCV infection, including 863 cases of persistent HCV infection, 524 cases of spontaneous clearance, and 1079 uninfected controls. The results showed that the CYP2R1 rs12794714-G, rs10741657-A, rs1562902-C, and rs10766197-G alleles were significantly associated with increased susceptibility to HCV infection (all P FDR  < 0.05, in additive/dominant models), and the combined effect of the four unfavorable alleles was related to an elevated risk of HCV infection in a locus-dosage manner (P trend  = 0.008). Moreover, haplotype analysis suggested that, compared with the most frequent haplotype (A rs12794714 G rs10741657 T rs1562902 A rs10766197) , the haplotype containing four unfavorable alleles, GACG, was associated with a higher risk of HCV infection. The results of our study suggest that genetic variants in CYP2R1 may be biomarkers for predicting the susceptibility to HCV infection in the Chinese population.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a common autosomal dominant tumor-predisposition disorder that mainly impacts the nervous system and skin. Since the full clinical presentation of NF1 depends on age, it can be difficult to make an early and definite diagnosis in paediatric patients without family history who only exhibited multiple cafè-au-lait spots, highlighting the need for mutational analysis. A combination of techniques was conducted in 30 families with NF1, including multi-gene panels, direct sequencing, cDNA sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification. Thirty variants were identified in 36 patients from the 30 families, among which ten variants were novel. As a result, we confirmed that the combination of techniques were highly accurate and sensitive for identifying pathogenic variants in patients clinically suspected of having NF1, in particular, for patients who only present with multiple cafè-au-lait spots.

Objective: The aim of the study was to study the prevalence and characteristics of sinistral portal hypertension (SPH) in acute pancreatitis (AP) and its correlation with the severity of AP., Methods: Retrospectively studied 633 patients with AP admitted to our institution and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Diagnosis of SPH was based on clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, and MRI. The venous system and pancreatitis were evaluated on T1 weighted imaging, T2 weighted imaging, and dynamic-enhancement MRI. Data on patients' demographics, etiology, organ failure, MR severity index, and clinical outcomes were all collected., Results: The SPH was detected in 21 patients (3.3%, 21/633). There was no statistical difference in organ failure between patients with SPH and without SPH (P > 0.05). The prevalence of SPH in males and females was 5.1% (17/336) versus 1.3% (4/297) (χ(2) = 6.775, P = 0.009), in edematous and necrotizing AP was 0.4% (2/510) versus 15.5% (19/123) (χ(2) = 65.413, P = 0.000), and in mild, moderate, and severe AP, based on MR severity index, were 0.6% (2/334) versus 2.9% (8/276) versus 47.8% (11/23) (χ(2) = 55.977, P = 0.000), respectively., Conclusions: The SPH rarely occurs in AP, and its risk is higher in males. Its presence is strongly associated with the local conditions of pancreatitis.

Vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) plays an important role in the immune modulation and pathogenesis of hepatitis C viral (HCV) infection by influencing serum vitamin D levels. The present study aims to evaluate the association of VDBP genetic polymorphisms with susceptibility to and chronicity of HCV infection in a high-risk Chinese population. Seven genetic variants in the VDBP gene were genotyped in a case-control study of 886 patients with HCV persistent infection, 539 subjects with spontaneous clearance, and 1081 uninfected controls. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the effects of these variants on HCV infection outcomes. The results showed that two variants rs7041-G and rs3733359-T alleles were significantly associated with increased susceptibility of HCV infection, and the combined effect of the two unfavorable alleles was related to an elevated risk of HCV infection in a locus-dosage manner (P trend  = 8.16 × 10 -4 ). Interaction analysis manifested that rs7041-GT/GG and rs3733359-CT/TT jointly increased risk of HCV infection. Moreover, haplotype analysis suggested that compared with the most frequent TC haplotype, the haplotype carrying GT indicated a risk effect of HCV infection [odds ratio (OR) = 1.464]. However, no significant associations were observed for the other five variants. Objective: To understand the changes of hydrological regime in the Yangtze River and schistosomiasis endemic situation in Nanjing City after the implementation of Three Gorges Project., Methods: The data of hydrological regime of the Yangtze River, schistosomiasis epidemic situation, and Oncomelania hupensis snail status were collected and analyzed in Nanjing City from 2002 to 2012., Results: After the implementation of the Three Gorges Project in 2003, the water level of the Yangtze River slightly rose from January to April, the average water levels in May and August both reduced compared with those in 2002, and the time of water withdrawal was moved up. The water level of the Yangtze River slightly reduced from November to December. The endemic situation of schistosomiasis showed a decline tendency in the areas along the Yangtze River in Nanjing City. In 2012, the rates of human and bovine infected with Schistosoma japonicum both reduced by 100% as compared with those in 2002, and the snail area, infected snail area and snail density were reduced by 48.45%, 100% and 95.76% respectively as compared with those in 2002., Conclusion: After the implementation of the Three Gorges Project, the schistosomiasis endemic situation shows a decline tendency in the areas along the Yangtze River in Nanjing City, but the long-term monitoring still need to be carried out.

Objective: To explore and integrate the key techniques used in the surveillance and forecast of schistosomiasis in the water regions along the Yangtze River, so as to provide technical support for identifying rapidly the risk of schistosomiasis transmission and implementing control measures targeting the risk., Methods: According to the distribution of water systems and water regions along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, the demonstration sites for surveillance and forecast of schistosomiasis were set across the province, where the integration and demonstration of the techniques regarding monitoring of Schistosoma japonicum infection in sentinel mice, human and animal activities, release of forecast information, and emergency treatment of water regions at risk of infection were performed. The pattern of human and animal activities was compared with the S. japonicum infection in sentinel mice in the demonstration sites, and the operability of the release of information and emergency treatment of the risk of S. japonicum infection was evaluated., Results: A total of 50 demonstration sites for surveillance and forecast of schistosomiasis were set in fixed anchor points, opening of the navigation lock to the Yangtze River, freight terminal, agritainment places, ferry, large construction places, and places for guaranteeing the Youth Olympic Games in 23 counties (districts) of 5 cities, Jiangsu Province. During the period between May. and September, 2014, the infectivity of water body was monitored by using 5 batches of sentinel mice, with a 99.06% (4,954/5,001) gross recovery rate of mice. S. japonicum infection was detected in a demonstration site, and an infected mouse was found, with a 0.02% (1/4,933) gross positive rate of sentinel mice. The field survey showed 2 088 person-times contacting water, including 91.95% (1,920/2,088) contacting water due to the production such as capturing fish, harvesting and cultivating crops, and repairing and building boats, and 8.05% (168/2 088) contacting water due to the life activity, such as fishing, washing vegetables and playing with water. The people contacted water predominantly in August and September (49.57%). A total of 859 boats containing 1,877 boatmen were observed, 68.22% (586/859) of which were fishing boats containing 1,306 fishermen (69.58%). There were 32 sheep found in 4 demonstration sites, and 3 sheep were seen in the demonstration site with infected sentinel mouse. Four blue forecasts (emergence of water contact) and one orange forecast (S. japonicum-infected sentinel mouse detected) were released across the province, with one forecast map released which showed 5 sites with fishing and one site with sheep grazing, one emergency response system initiated, mollusciciding implemented in 10 hm2 high-risk regions, 120 sheep grazed in fence, and 35 fishermen given health-education materials, schistosomiasis examination and preventive therapy. In addition, no acute schistosomiasis occurred in the demonstration site with S. japonicum-infected sentinel mice., Conclusions: The integration and demonstration of the techniques regarding monitoring of S. japonicum infection in sentinel mice, human and animal activities, release of forecast information, and emergency treatment of water regions at risk of infection provides an effective approach for the large-scale surveillance and forecast of schistosomiasis.

Objective: To establish the surveillance and risk assessment system of schistosomiasis in Jiangsu Province, so as to provide technical support for timely understanding of the risk of schistosomiasis transmission and implementation of targeted control measures., Methods: The surveillance sites of schistosomiasis were assigned according to the epidemic status and endemic type of schistosomiasis as well as the characteristics of the water system, and the prevalence of Schistosoma japonicum in humans and domestic animals, and snail status were investigated. In addition, the quality control of serum detection of S. japonicum infections was performed. The prevalence of human and animal S. japonicum infections, snail status and missing diagnosis of serum detection were analyzed and compared among regions., Results: A total of 27 surveillance sites of schistosomiasis were set up in 26 counties of 10 cities, Jiangsu Province, including 14 sites in transmission-interrupted villages and 13 sites in transmission-controlled villages, and 15 sites in marshland and lake regions, 9 sites in plain regions with water network and 3 sites in mountainous region. In the 27 surveillance sites, a total of 16 617 residents were screened for S. japonicum infection by using dipstick dye immunoassay (DDIA), and 326 were sero-positive, with a sero-prevalence of 1.96% (2.17% for men and 1.8% for women). Of the 326 individuals undergoing parasitological examination, 2 positive cases were detected in the marshland and lake region, with a S. japonicum human prevalence of 0.01%. Of the 762 floating population detected, 10 were positive for blood test, with a sero-prevalence of 1.31%, and no egg-positive individuals were detected. No infection was found in the 476 domestic animals. Of the 746 settings surveyed, a total of 240.7 hm2 snail area was detected, with a mean snail density of 0.06 snails/0.1 m2, and no infected snails were found. There were 780 quality-control sera detected in 26 surveillance sites of schistosomiasis, and the gross coincidence rate was 95.13%, with misdiagnosis rate of 1.28% and missing diagnosis rate of 19.23%., Conclusion: The surveillance sites of schistosomiasis show reasonable distribution in Jiangsu Province, and the endemic situation of schistosomiasis appears a low level in the whole province.

Hydrogeochemistry of 32 hot springs in the western Sichuan Province after the Wenchuan MS 8.0 earthquake was investigated by analyzing the concentrations of cation and anion and the isotopic compositions of hydrogen and oxygen. The water samples of the hot springs were collected four times from June 2008 to April 2010. Hydrogeochemical data indicated the water samples can be classified into 9 chemical types. Values of δ D and δ(18)O indicated that the spring waters were mainly derived from meteoric precipitation and affected by water-rock interaction and mixture of deep fluids. Concentrations of K(+)and SO4(-) of the samples from the Kangding district exhibited evident increases before the Wenchuan earthquake, indicating more supplement of deep fluids under the increase of tectonic stress. The chemical and isotopic variations of the water samples from the area closer to the epicenter area can be attributed to variation of regional stress field when the aftershock activities became weak.

Objective: To evaluate the ability for serological screening of schistosomiasis among county-level personnel, so as to provide the evidence for establishing the quality control system of field detection of schistosomiasis., Methods: The standard serum panel was prepared for the quality assessment of schistosomiasis diagnostic capability, and detected by county-level personnel in the endemic field simultaneously using single-blind method. The rates of coincidence, misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis were calculated compared with the standard results., Results: Totally 780 samples of standard serum were detected in 26 counties, and showed 134 positive and 646 negative samples. The rates of coincidence, misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis were 95.13%, 1.28% and 19.23%, respectively, and there was a significant difference between the detection results and the standard results (chi2 = 11.6053, P = 0.0007). Among the 26 counties investigated, the misdiagnosis occurred in 5 counties (19.23%) and missed diagnosis occurred in 21 counties (80.77%). The misdiagnosis rate and missed diagnosis rate of serological screening of schistosomiasis were 0-2.08% and 16.67%-33.33% in beach, hilly, water net and marshland endemic areas, respectively, and no significant differences were found in the misdiagnosis rate and the missed diagnosis rate among various types of endemic areas (chi2 = 1.590 and 1.757, P = 0.6671 and 0.6244). The rates of misdiagnosis and the missed diagnosis were 1.14% and 1.39%, and 18.18% and 20.00% in the schistosomiasis transmission-controlled and the schistosomiasis transmission-interrupted areas, respectively, and no significant differences were found in the misdiagnosis rate and missed diagnosis rate between the schistosomiasis transmission-controlled and transmission-interrupted areas (chi2 = 0.008 and 0.001, P = 0.931 and 0.974)., Conclusions: The missed diagnosis is a major cause for the reduction of quality of schistosomiasis detection at the county level in Jiangsu Province, and the coincidental detection of schistosomiasis with standard serum in the field is one of effective approaches for the control of the quality of schistosomiasis detection.

Introduction: Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) in China appear to have many characteristics different from those Western countries, but clinical studies to provide details have been rare so far., Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed the characteristics of clinical and pathological data for the 1248 NHL patients in the Shandong region of China between 2002 and 2010., Results: From 2002 to 2010, the number of clinical cases of NHL increased year by year. Among the total, 64.7% were B-cell NHL, 30.3% were T-cell NHL, including: diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (40.9%), extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (NK/T) (10.0%); peripheral T cell lymphoma, unspecified (PTL) (9.2%); follicular lymphoma (FL) (6.4%); extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphoma (MALT) (5.4%); precursor T lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (T-LBL) (4.5%); and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) (3.2%). The average age of onset was 47.7 ∓ 16.3 (18-85), and the male to female ratio was 1.57:1. Compared with Shanghai and Shanxi in China, the proportion of NK/T cell lymphoma in this region was higher. In comparison with other countries, the FL and CLL/SLL in this region were significantly lower, while the incidence of T-cell lymphoma was significantly higher than that in the United States and Europe., Conclusions: The clinical and pathological distribution of NHL in Shandong region of China is consistent with that of Asian populations, but with significant difference from the Western countries. The NK/T cell lymphoma in this region was significantly higher.

Surveys on intestinal nematode infection were conducted in 65 monitoring sites in Nanjing City during 2004-2008. Eggs in stool samples from 46226 residents were examined by modified Kato-Katz thick smear method in the 5 years. The prevalence was reduced from 3.0% in 2004 to 0.7% in 2008, decreased by 75.3%. The prevalence in rural area (2.9%) was higher than that of city (0.9%) (chi2=1024.63, P<0.01). The highest prevalence was in the group of under 10 years (5.2%) (chi2=331.18, P<0.01).

Objective: To study the first locally identifed A/H1N1 secondary cases outbreak in China., Methods: Interview and field investigation were integrated to describe the whole process of transmission on each case and to illustrate the relationships between the onset of the disease and the retated factors., Results: Two contact persons appearanced fever and whose throat swabs were tested positive to H1N1 viral nucleic acid. The two had a history of contact in a short distance with the initial imported case without any protective measure in the poor air ventilation. The patients clinical situation was slight. The incubation was between 37 hours and 57 hours. No other new case was found after intervention as isolation and antisepsis were taken., Conclusion: This event was proved to be an outbreak of local A/H1N1 secondary cases caused by the imported case. The main mode of transmission was personal contact in a short distance without protection, through air and droplet. The locus with poor air ventilation was high risk place. Contact persons should be observed seven days and tested continuously. Infectivity and pathogenicity of the A/H1N1 virus were limited and appeared weakened by generations. Patient's condition was related with persistence and frequency of contact with the infection sources. Enhancing management of contact persons, health education, early diagnose, early treatment and early insulation were effective measures of controling and prenventing the spread A/H1N1.

Three endemic villages were selected as the national surveillance sites and Schistosoma japonicum infection in residents and livestock was investigated in 2006. The positive rate of serological (IHA) and stool examinations was 10.06% (307/3,053) and 0.13% (4/3,053) for local residents, 10.8% (7/65) and 0 (0/7) for moving people respectively. No infected livestock was found.
