Summary: Excessive patulin contamination in fruit juice products pose a significant risk to human health. However, there is a notable absence of a comprehensive and long‐term survey regarding the contamination of patulin in fruit juices within the Chinese market. The present study revealed a discernible decline in the patulin contamination levels, which were as follows: 60% (33/55), 18.28% (17/93), 0% (0/122), 15.58% (12/77), and 0% (0/63) at various survey time dates (2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022). Among them, 18.18% (in 2014), 6.45% (in 2016), and 3.90% (in 2020) of samples exceeded the maximum limit concentration of 50 μg/L, respectively. Despite the presence of varying levels of patulin contamination, the average daily intake of patulin across all years did not present a discernible risk to human health. This investigation offers valuable insights for evaluating the extent of human exposure to patulin and establishing regulatory measures to ensure the safety of juice products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The modern equity incentive system, which takes shareholders' interests first as the logic of governance, is based on material reward and short-term behavior, making it difficult to fundamentally build an economic interest community between enterprises and employees. How to avoid opportunistic behavior in equity incentive and stimulate employees' prolonged sense of organizational identity for enterprise sustainability is an important governance problem of modern enterprises. Based on the theory of social embeddedness, this study uses constructing grounded theory to explore the incentive theory of Qiaojiazihao, which means an exceptional family business owned and run in Shanxi Province but well known throughout China by a family surnamed Qiao in the Qing Dynasty. Qiaojiazihao takes the Confucian community thought as its foundation of social values, the Confucian concept of righteousness and interests as its business ethics, and the social factors, such as emotion and trust, are embedded in its economic organization. The labor sharing incentive thus forms the pathway to Geo-cultural community-social identity community-economic interests community. On this basis, it abstracts the internal mechanism of value generation-system coupling-interest strengthening as the logic of the communitybased labor sharing incentive of Chinese classical enterprises. This study deepens the understanding of the equity incentive system of Chinese classical enterprises, and is enlightening for revising the institutional logic of rational calculation of equity incentive based on material interests and improving corporate governance and employee shareholding methods from the perspective of social embeddedness. The equine herpesvirus type 8 (EHV-8) can cause significant economic losses in the global horses and donkey industry. The disease has been associated with abortion and respiratory symptoms. However, it is rare for a study to be reported about donkeys with neurological diseases induced by EHV-8 infection. In the present study, one 2-year-old male donkey, from a large-scale donkey farm in China, died with a severe neurological disorder. The causative agent, donkey/Shandong/10/2021 (GenBank accession: OL856098), was identified and isolated from the brain tissue of the dead donkey. Meanwhile, BALB/c mice were used as an animal model to evaluate the pathogenicity of the EHV-8 isolate. Our data showed that EHV-8 was positive in brains by PCR and immunohistochemistry, which induced typical viral encephalitis lesions in both donkey and mice consistent with clinical signs. For the first time, we reported that EHV-8 had been isolated from donkeys with a neurological illness in China, which is helpful to reveal the pathogenicity of EHV-8 in the donkey. Background: China is the birthplace of the deer family and the country with the most abundant deer resources. However, at present, China's deer industry faces the problem that pure sika deer and hybrid deer cannot be easily distinguished. Therefore, the development of a SNP identification chip is urgently required. Results: In this study, 250 sika deer, 206 red deer, 23 first-generation hybrid deer (F1), 20 s-generation hybrid deer (F2), and 20 third-generation hybrid deer (F3) were resequenced. Using the chromosome-level sika deer genome as the reference sequence, mutation detection was performed on all individuals, and a total of 130,306,923 SNP loci were generated. After quality control filtering was performed, the remaining 31,140,900 loci were confirmed. From molecular-level and morphological analyses, the sika deer reference population and the red deer reference population were established. The Fst values of all SNPs in the two reference populations were calculated. According to customized algorithms and strict screening principles, 1000 red deer-specific SNP sites were finally selected for chip design, and 63 hybrid individuals were determined to contain red deer-specific SNP loci. The results showed that the gene content of red deer gradually decreased in subsequent hybrid generations, and this decrease roughly conformed to the law of statistical genetics. Reaction probes were designed according to the screening sites. All candidate sites met the requirements of the Illumina chip scoring system. The average score was 0.99, and the MAF was in the range of 0.3277 to 0.3621. Furthermore, 266 deer (125 sika deer, 39 red deer, 56 F1, 29 F2,17 F3) were randomly selected for 1 K SNP chip verification. The results showed that among the 1000 SNP sites, 995 probes were synthesized, 4 of which could not be typed, while 973 loci were polymorphic. PCA, random forest and ADMIXTURE results showed that the 1 K sika deer SNP chip was able to clearly distinguish sika deer, red deer, and hybrid deer and that this 1 K SNP chip technology may provide technical support for the protection and utilization of pure sika deer species resources. Conclusion: We successfully developed a low-density identification chip that can quickly and accurately distinguish sika deer from their hybrid offspring, thereby providing technical support for the protection and utilization of pure sika deer germplasm resources. Environmental corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been a popular practice among corporations. However, the mechanism and effectiveness of environmental CSR in affecting corporate–public communication are still unclear. Against the theoretical backdrop of the ‘halo effect’ and through a controlled experiment with 742 participants from Hong Kong and mainland China, we find that: if a company’s environmental CSR activity receives higher support from the consumers, it is less likely for consumers to avoid advertisements endorsed by the company. The CSR green halo effect therefore exists. Moreover, consumers’ nationality and their three preexisting attitudes (general environmental CSR support, environmental beliefs, and favorability of products’ country of origin) are important moderators of the green halo effect and need to be considered in practice. Red deer (Cervus elaphus/hanglu/canadensis) are a group of closely-related species that survived through the Last Glacial period in Eurasia and expanded into North America. The evolutionary modes of red deer in Europe through glacial and interglacial cycles have been established relatively well based on both modern and ancient genomes, while the evolutionary and migratory history of red deer in Asia are not so clear. Northern China, as the southern border of their current distribution, is a significant area for exploring the evolution of wapitoids (Cervus canadensis). Here, we constructed six mitochondrial genomes (lengths of 13,282–16,306 bp) from Late Pleistocene fossil cervid materials in Northeastern China, and four modern complete mitochondrial DNA sequences (16,798–16943 bp) from Northern China. Phylogenetic analyses suggest four clades in wapitoids, with our new individuals clustered into three out of the four clades. BEAST analysis indicates that the divergence between elaphoids (including Cervus elaphus and Cervus hanglu) and the complex of 'wapitoids + sika deer (Cervus nippon)' occurred at approximately 1.37 million years ago (Ma, 95%Cl: 1.64–1.15 Ma). Bayesian skyline plots (BSPs) show that the effective maternal population size of wapitoids had a slight and stable expansion between Marine isotope stages (MIS) 7–3, and then shrank from the beginning of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Combined with the divergence dates, population dynamics, and fossil findings in Northern China, we infer that after wapitoids migrated eastward from Central Asia to Northeastern Asia, they had multiple migrations southward into Northern China. The current distribution of wapitoids in Northern China was likely shaped by these migrations as well as habitat fragmentation. Meanwhile, the radiocarbon dates of ancient individuals indicate that the Northeast China Plain, located at the same latitude as European refugia, may have provided a refugium for megafaunal species such as red deer to survive the LGM. • First combined sampling of both ancient and extant mitogenomes of wapitoids in China. • Demonstrating habitat fragmentation or multiple migratory events of wapitoids in Northern China. • Indicating a possible refuge for megafauna species in Northeastern China in LGM. Gansu wapiti (Cervus elaphus kansuensis) is one of eight subspecies of wapiti in China, which has been placed under the second-ranked protected animals by Chinese government. No complete mitochondrial genomes of Gansu wapiti was determined until now, so the phylogenetic relationships among the subspecies of wapiti and other species of the genus Cervus have not been well studied. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. e. kansuensis was first sequenced and characterized. The genome is 16,430 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and one noncoding control region (CR). Maximum-Likelihood (ML) and Bayesian Inference (BI) trees based on the 13 PCGs show that C. e. kansuensis is clustered with other wapiti subspecies in China except for C. e. yarkandensis. It is also shown that Cervus elaphus is not a monophyletic group. This study provides important molecular evidence for the phylogenetic relationship among species in the genus Cervus. This study extends the spiral silence theory and investigates the influence of perceived incongruence in opinion climate on individuals' intentions to express their true thoughts. Three intervening variables were examined to explain the process by which perceived incongruence in opinion climate leads to self-censorship: ambivalence, perceived opinion support, and internet political efficacy. Using data collected in telephone interviews with a random sample of 1020 Chinese residents in Shanghai and Guangzhou, we found that individual perceptions of the opinion climate varied considerably, and they were based on different media outlets. The Chinese audience is able to tell the difference between traditional media and the internet in terms of the features of their content. Moreover, among the Guangzhou residents, we found that the perceived incongruence in opinion climate was negatively related to the individual's willingness to express his or her true thoughts. • This study responds to a call for rediscovering the role of socioeconomic status (SES) in studies of misinformation exposure and susceptibility. • Poisson regression models were fitted with the data coming from an online survey with 955 Chinese respondents. • Alternative sources use in mainland China is found to be positively related to misinformation exposure and susceptibility, respectively. • Socioeconomic status (SES), indicated by income levels, is found to quadratically moderate the relationship between alternative sources use and misinformation exposure/susceptibility. In contrast, educational attainment, another usual indicator of SES, does not show support for a quadratic moderation effect hypothesis. In an era of post-truth, the rise of alternative information sources is often blamed for the spread of misinformation. This study responds to a call for rediscovering the role of socioeconomic status (SES) by investigating the quadratic moderation effects of SES on associations between the use of alternative sources and misinformation exposure and susceptibility. Poisson regression models were fitted with the data coming from an online survey with 955 Chinese respondents. Findings show that the moderation effects are quadratic when income, rather than educational attainment, serves as the measurement of SES. The implications of the findings with respect to overeducation, income's cognitive effects, and the non-equivalence of SES's common measures in studies of media effects are discussed. • In this study, we identified the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of sika deer. • Based on CYTB gene, the sika deer was divided into four lineages. • Our research would provide scientific data for the evaluation, protection, and utilization of sika deer resources. The genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of sika deer of different subspecies are uncertain. In order to explore the phylogenetic relationship of different sika deer subspecies, this study used a wider sample collection to analyze mitochondrial sequences and nuclear microsatellites of sika deer. The full lengths of cytochrome-b gene of 134 sika deer were sequenced, and 16 haplotypes were obtained. Based on phylogenetic and haplotype networks analysis, the sika deer was not clustered according to subspecies but was divided into four lineages. Lineage I includes individuals from C.n.kopschi, C.n.sichuanicus , and C.n.hortulorum subspecies; Lineage II includes individuals from C.n.hortulorum subspecies; Lineage III includes individuals from C.n.centralis , C.n.yakushime , C.n.mageshimae , and C.n.keramae subspecies, namely southern Japanese population; Lineage IV includes individuals from C.n.centralis and C.n.yesoensis subspecies, namely northern Japanese population. The microsatellite analysis showed that the sika deer in China and Japan originated independently. The three subspecies of China have significant genetic differentiation, while the three subspecies of Japan have no significant differentiation. This study provides reference for the research of genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship of sika deer, and also provides scientific data for the evaluation, protection, and utilization of sika deer resources. Background: Worldwide, the volume and availability of digestive endoscopy have undergone dramatic development in recent years, with increasing attention on quality assurance. We investigated the utilization and quality of digestive endoscopy in China from 2015 to 2019 and developed a quantitative quality evaluation tool for medical institutions., Methods: We invited all tertiary/secondary hospitals in Chinese mainland to participate in the survey annually. The questionnaires included the personnel, annual volume, and quality indicators of endoscopy. An endoscopy quality index (EQI) was developed based on recorded quality indicators using principal component analysis to determine the relative weight., Results: From 2015 to 2019, 806, 1412, 2644, 2468, and 2541 hospitals were respectively enrolled in this study. The average annual volume of endoscopy increased from 12,445 to 16,206 (1.30-fold) and from 2938 to 4255 (1.45-fold) in tertiary and secondary hospitals, respectively. The most obvious growth was observed in diagnostic colonoscopy (1.44-fold for all hospitals after standardization). The proportion of early cancer among all esophageal and gastric cancers during diagnostic esophagogastroduodenoscopy increased from 12.3% (55,210/448,861) to 17.7% (85,429/482,647) and from 11.4% (69,411/608,866) to 16.9% (107,192/634,235), respectively. The adenoma detection rate of diagnostic colonoscopy increased from 14.9% (2,118,123/14,215,592) to 19.3% (3,943,203/20,431,104). The EQI model included 12 quality indicators, incorporating 64.9% (7.792/12) of the total variance into one comprehensive index. According to the EQI measurements, the quality of endoscopy was higher in tertiary hospitals and hospitals in developed areas with higher volume or more endoscopists than that in other hospitals., Conclusions: Digestive endoscopy in China has developed considerably in recent years in terms of both volume and quality. We aimed to clarify the relationship between Chinese adolescents' physical activity and academic achievement, the mediating role of physical and mental health, and provide a scientific reference for the integration of sports and education. Based on baseline data from the China Education Panel Survey, we conducted a nationwide study of 12,960 adolescents. We used nonlinear models, mediation effect analysis, and other measurement methods. Three significant findings emerged: (1) adolescent physical activity duration and academic achievement showed an inverted U-shaped relationship. Moderate physical activity improves academic achievement. The inverted U-shaped inflection point is about 3.549 h/week; (2) physical activity among the male group has a stronger effect on promoting academic achievement, while the positive effect of physical activity among females is not significant. The difference in effectiveness between urban and rural youth groups is relatively small, but the inflection point of rural youth groups is higher, and (3) the level of physical and mental health effectively mediates the inverted U-shaped influence of youth physical activity on academic achievement. We recommend that governments and schools should implement physical activity appropriately and suggest the feasibility of using physical activity to narrow the growth gap between urban and rural youth.

Background: Abnormal construction of the extracellular matrix (ECM) is intimately linked with carcinogenesis and the development of solid tumours, especially hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). As the major component of the ECM, collagen plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis. P4HA2, the essential enzyme during collagen formation, becomes an important target in HCC treatment. Here, we tried to decipher whether aspirin (ASA), a classic anti-inflammatory drug, could improve the prognosis of HCC through targeting P4HA2., Methods: Western blotting, qRT-PCR assay, immunofluorescence staining, luciferase reporter gene assay, and ChIP assay were applied to demonstrate the molecular mechanism of the regulation of P4HA2 expression by aspirin. A mouse xenograft model, cell viability assay, colony formation assay, and immunohistochemistry analysis were used to evaluate the anti-fibrosis effect of aspirin through targeting the NF-κB/P4HA2 axis and LMCD1-AS1/let-7g/P4HA2 axis in vitro and in vivo. The TCGA database was used to evaluate the correlation among P4HA2, let-7g, LMCD1-AS1 and overall survival of HCC patients., Findings: In xenograft mice, aspirin was capable of targeting P4HA2 to decrease collagen deposition, resulting in the inhibition of liver tumour growth. TCGA database analysis revealed the close association between a higher P4HA2 concentration in HCC patients and shorter overall survival or a higher cancer stage and the pathological grade. Mechanistically, NF-κB can bind to the promoter of P4HA2 to activate its transcription. Purpose: Oral leukoplakia (OL) is the well-known disorder of oral mucosa, which has potential to be malignant and can lead to squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). In the following study, we developed a comprehensive nomogram for predicting the malignant progression of OL, based on analysis of clinicopathological variables., Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with OL was performed between 1998 and 2017 at the Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology. OL was confirmed by pre-treatment biopsy. The candidate risk factors for OL malignant transformation were screened from clinicopathological variables using the Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. The nomogram model was generated based on the COX regression results and was validated through Harrell concordance index (c-index) and calibration plots RESULTS: The incidence of OL malignant transformation (MT) was 12.2% (107/875), and the mean follow-up time was 4.5 years. The risk factors (age, histologic grade, site of lesion and smoking habit) derived from Cox proportional hazard regression analysis were incorporated in a novel nomogram model for prediction of MT severity. The c-index value of the nomogram model was 0.752, which confirmed the prediction ability; and was further confirmed by calibration plots results., Conclusion: Our data suggest that patients with OL who are over 50 years old, non-smokers with dysplasia, and OL lesions involving the lip, the floor of mouth, and tongue have an enhanced risk of MT.
