The article discusses the implications of the proposed strip mine that would destroy the Bristol Bay watershed in Alaska. John Shivery, chief executive officer of the Pebble Ltd. Partnership is planning to mine copper, gold and molybdenum in the pebble deposit under the headwaters of the Kvichak and the Nushagak salmon rivers. Audubon Alaska executive director Nils Warnock says that the mines will put at risk 27 globally Important Bird Areas.
