The objective was to validate the "Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) - Attitude Scale" for the Portuguese university population, allowing the evaluation of the attitude of young people to oral emergency contraception (OEC). Translation, adaptation, and validation of the same for the Portuguese population. A study was carried out using a sample of 457 university students, and their psychometric characteristics were evaluated by developing studies of reliability and validity. The sample consisted mostly of female youth (61.71%), with a mean age of 21.14 years. After performing the psychometric studies, it was possible to obtain values of Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.820, for the Scale of Attitudes towards the use of Emergency Oral Contraception (EACOE) and for factor 1 (Fear of misuse) - 0.83; Factor 2 (Easy Access) - 0.826 and Factor 3 (Health Concerns) - 0.691. The scale was adequate and easy to use to assess young people's attitudes about EOC, which is fundamental to the perception of young people's predisposition to their use, which may prove to be harmful to the adoption of protective behaviors within the scope of the experience of their sexuality. OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the content validity of the Self-perception of Family Health Status scale. METHOD: A validation study of an instrument with an online Delphi panel using the consensus technique. Eighteen experts in the subject were intentionally selected, with a multidisciplinary origin and representing different professional fields. Each of the proposed items was assessed using a five-point scale, and open-ended questions, to modify or propose items. Descriptive analysis was performed of the sample and the items, applying criteria of validation/elimination. RESULTS: The first round had a response rate of 83.3% and validated 75 of the 96 proposed items; the second had a response rate of 80%, and validated the 21 newly created items, concluding the panel of experts. CONCLUSIONS: We present an instrument to measure self-perception of family health status, from a nursing perspective. This may be an advance in scientific knowledge, to facilitate the assessment of the state of health of the family unit, enabling detection of alterations, and to facilitate interventions to prevent consequences to the family unit and its members. It can be used in clinical care, research or teaching. The simple translation of a questionnaire may lead to misinterpretation due to language and cultural differences. When using questionnaires developed in other countries and languages in scientific studies it is necessary, besides the translation, to carry out a cross-cultural adaptation and validation. Our objective was to review the literature on cross-cultural adaptation and validation (CCAV) of health questionnaires, and to synthesize and propose recommendations based on the scientific literature to facilitate this process. The CCAV should follow a systematic process. Two steps are recommended: 1) cross-cultural adaptation: direct translation, synthesis, back translation, expert committee consolidation and pre-testing, and 2) validation (with up to seven steps): assessment of internal consistency, reliability, intra- and inter-observer reliability, face, content, criterion and construct validity. Lack of equivalence between questionnaires limits the comparability of results among populations with different cultures and languages and the exchange of information in the scientific community.

Objectives To determine the reliability and the content and construct validity of the Mackey Childbirth Satisfaction Rating Scale to measure women's satisfaction with labor and delivery. Methods The translation-back translation method was used to obtain an adapted version of the scale. For the validation study, a sample of 325 women who had delivered a healthy neonate through the vaginal route was selected. Data collection was performed using a self-administered questionnaire that included the modified scale, childbirth expectations, obstetric variables and sociodemographic characteristics. Reliability was assessed in a subsample of 45 women who completed the scale for the second time 15-30 days later. The factorial structure and internal consistency of the scale were analyzed. Construct validity was evaluated by analyzing the relationship between satisfaction with the experience, fulfillment of expectations and preferences regarding pain management. Results: In the test-retest study, an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.93 was obtained for the total scale. Factor analysis identified six factors that explained 69.42% of the variance. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.94 for the total scale, ranging from 0.72 to 0.96 for the subscales. Satisfaction with the experience of childbirth was higher among women whose expectations were met and among those who accessed the pain relief method chosen. Conclusions: This scale is a useful instrument to measure women's satisfaction with the experience of childbirth, adapted to our context and with good psychometric properties.

CONCLUSÕES: A presente versão da ERPFM exibe identidade cultural e confiabilidade teste-reteste satisfatórias, podendo ser de utilidade no tratamento e na avaliação de tabagistas em nosso meio.OBJECTIVE: To translate the Modified Reasons for Smoking Scale (MRSS) to Portuguese, to submit it to cross-cultural adaptation for use in Brazil and to evaluate the test-retest reliability of the translated version. METHODS: An English-language version of the MRSS was translated to Portuguese by Brazilian doctors who have thorough knowledge of the English language. A consensus version was produced by a multidisciplinary group including two pulmonologists, a psychiatrist and a psychologist. This version was back-translated to English by an American translator. Cross-cultural adaptation of the final version was evaluated in a sample of 20 healthy smokers. Test-retest reliability was evaluated by applying the translated version of the scale in 54 healthy smokers on two distinct occasions, 15 days apart. RESULTS: This translated version of the MRSS was well understood by 95% of the smokers, indicating excellent cross-cultural equivalence. The degree of reliability of the answers in two different occasions was almost perfect for two questions, substantial for ten questions, moderate for eight questions, and low for one question. The intraclass correlation coefficients of the motivational factors obtained on the two different occasions, calculated according to previously published theoretical models, were higher than 0.7 for six of the seven subscales. CONCLUSIONS: The Portuguese-language version of the MRSS shows satisfactory cross-cultural equivalence and test-retest reliability. It can be a useful tool in the evaluation and treatment of smokers in Brazil.

Objectives: To adapt the «health belief model» on breast cancer screening to Spanish, and to asses its validity and reliability. Methods: We assessed validation of a scale with 3 dimensions (susceptibility, benefits and barriers) with Likert responses in a case-control study. Cases were women not participating in a breast cancer screening program and controls consisted of participating women. A process of translation and back-translation was carried out and a technical committee analyzed discrepancies. Comprehension was tested in 17 women. Two hundred seventy-four women participated in the study. In 32 of these women, the questionnaire was administered twice after a 1-month interval to estimate its reliability. Results: The intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.89, 0.70 and 0.90, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.71, 0.48 and 0.57 for susceptibility, benefits and barriers, respectively. Construct validity: from the factorial analysis, 3 factors were obtained explaining 34% of the variance. The confirmatory factorial analysis indicated acceptable goodness-of-fit of the data to the theoretical model. Older women perceived less susceptibility to breast cancer as well as greater barriers to attending screening. Women with a lower educational level perceived greater barriers. The scale did not seem to predict adherence to the program. Conclusions: The adapted scale presents problems of validity and internal consistency. The dimensions of benefits and barriers require thorough adaptation and validation before the scale is used in Spanish women.

The Personal Health Scale is a concise instrument for comprehensive culture-informed and self-rated assessment of general health status and well-being. It is composed of 10 questions that appraise different health dimensions collated from the international literature, including aspects ranging from somatic and psychological domains to social functioning and insight. PURPOSE: In this investigation, results of a study conducted in Southern Brazil to test and validate the Portuguese version of the Personal Health Scale (PHS-Pt) are presented. Method: This study analyzes data from a sample of 120 Brazilian volunteers (90 patients and 30 health care professionals). All patients completed the Portuguese version of the Personal Health Scale under a minimal guidance by trained examiners, who followed standardized instructional procedures. RESULTS: The internal consistency of the PHS-Pt attained a Cronbach's a of 0.75 among patients and of 0.69 among health care professionals. The test-retest reliability correlation coefficient yielded a score of 0.82. Furthermore, the PHS-Pt was able to detect a significant discriminating validity between the 2 evaluated samples (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: The original English version of the Personal Health Scale was successfully adapted to Portuguese as methodologically demonstrated herein. The PHS-Pt constitutes a reliable and trustworthy research instrument for evaluating health status in Brazil, since it is appropriately designed to distinguish different groups of volunteers regarding their health status. Objective: To adapt the Graded Chronic Pain Scale for use in Primary care patients in Spain, and to assess its psychometric properties. Methods: Clinical measures observational study investigating the severity of chronic pain. The methodology included a process of translation and back-translation following the international guidelines. Study participants were 75 patients who experienced lower back pain for more than six months and were sent to Primary Care physiotherapy units. Internal consistency, construct validity, test-retest reliability, floor and ceiling effects, and answering capacity were analysed. Results: The Spanish version of the Graded Chronic Pain Scale had a high internal consistency, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.87 and intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.81. Regarding construct validity, it was identified that two factors explained 72.37% of the variance. Convergent validity showed a moderate positive correlation with the Visual Analogue Scale, the activity avoidance subscale of the Tampa Scale of Kinesophobia, the Pain Catastrophizing Scale, the Roland-Morris Low Back Pain and Disability Questionnaire, and the FearAvoidance Beliefs Questionnaire. A moderate negative correlation was identified with the Chronic Pain Self-Efficacy Scale. The mean time of questionnaire administration was 2 minutes and 28 seconds. Conclusions: The Spanish version of the Graded Chronic Pain Scale appears to be a valid, reliable, and useful tool for measuring chronic pain at an early stage in Primary Care settings in Spain. Introduction: studies pointed to expressive increases in prevalence of body image dissatisfaction. However, there few information about different components of body image, as the satisfaction with muscle mass, being necessary deeper investigations about, as well as tools for its evaluation. Objective: this study aimed to analyze the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Drive for Muscularity Scale in terms of internal consistency and reproducibility in men and women. Methods: the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Drive for Muscularity Scale was applied in 112 male and female college students. The test-retest was applied in 30 college students also of both sexes. Analyzes of internal consistency and reproducibility comparing men and women were conducted. Results: The scale showed high internal consistency, both when analyzed as a whole (Cronbach's alpha = 0.899), as when analyzed as from its two factors "motivations and desires" (Cronbach's alpha = 0.864) and "attitudes" (alpha Cronbach = 0.857), which is similar for men and women. The scale showed adequate indicators of reproducibility for men (p = 0.887) and women (p = 0.258). Men as expected had higher scores on the scale (p = 0.001), especially in the factor "motivations and desires" (p <0.001). In spite of that, the scores of the two factors showed a significant association for both sexes. Conclusions: the Drive for Muscularity Scale has good internal consistency and reproducibility for both sexes may also be used in the analysis of body image in women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study describes the adaptation of a revised Brazilian version of the Patient Competency Rating Scale (PCRS-R-BR), which focuses on executive, mnemonic, and attention functions. Evidence of content-based and external validity is also reported. The cross-cultural adaptation was conducted in five phases: 1) translations and back translations; 2) item analysis by authors; 3) classification by experts; 4) revisions and reformulations by authors; 5) pilot study with a sample of patients with mild and moderate/severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Data were analyzed descriptively, and the PCRS-R-BR scores of groups with mild vs. moderate/severe TBI were compared using the Mann-Whitney test. Patients and their relatives were divided into groups and compared using repeated-measures analysis. The results of the PCRS-R-BR questionnaire for relatives and discrepancy scores of patients with moderate/severe TBI revealed significantly more impairment than that found in the group of patients with mild TBI. There were significant differences between item and total scores of both groups of patients and relatives. Results indicated a high level of item content agreement between experts. This study found initial evidence of PCRS-R-BR content-based and external validity when the questionnaire was applied to patients with mild and moderate/severe TBI and their relatives. ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the psychometric properties of the Quality of Care Scale instrument applied to Care Network users for the Person with Disabilities. Methods This is an observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study. Interviews with 869 users of the specialized Care Network for the Person with Disabilities component were conducted through instruments of sociodemographic characterization, socioeconomic classification, and self-reported Quality of Care. The Quality of Care Scale research instrument contains 19 questions distributed between the professional and care, access, social needs, and information received axes. It was validated in Brazil in 2014 with a sample composed of people with intellectual and physical disabilities. In this study, the questions were led by researchers to people with intellectual, physical, hearing, visual, or multiple disabilities. For psychometric analysis, we used the item of Response Theory, and factorial analysis and measures of convergent validity and reliability. Results All items were relevant and with acceptable discrimination for the formation of the first order (Quality of Care axes) and second-order (Quality of Care indicator) constructs, except one information received the item, which was removed from the final model for having presented low factorial load. The constructs presented the required levels of reliability, convergent validation, and proper fit. Conclusion The psychometric analysis of the Quality of Care Scale instrument revealed that the final model presented in this paper can be expanded to measure the Quality of Care offered to people with intellectual, hearing, physical, visual, or multiple disabilities, users of Care Network for the Person with Disabilities.

HEALTH surveys , *TEST validity , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *CROSS-cultural studies , *STATISTICAL reliability - Abstract
Objectives: to translate and adapt the "Children's Eating Attitude Test" (Cheat) to Portuguese and evaluate the semantic equivalence and verbal comprehension. Methods: the process involved four stages: (1) translation, (2) back-translation, (3) technical review and semantic evaluation, (4) pre-test — evaluation of verbal comprehension by specialists in eating disorders. Results: the 26 questions were translated and adapted for Portuguese. The final version contained the same 26 items presented in a clear and easy-to-understand format (average score higher than 4.5 - maximum 5.0). Conclusions: the tool has been translated and adapted for Portuguese and the transcultural adaptation process was a success. There is still a need for analyses of external validity, measurement equivalence and reproducibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HIRSCHSPRUNG'S disease , *COLON abnormalities , *MEDICAL records , *BARIUM enema , *SEPSIS , *NEONATAL necrotizing enterocolitis , *DOWN syndrome - Abstract
Objectives: to analyze clinical features of patients with Hirschprung's Disease (HD). Methods: a retrospective institutional case study was carried out using the medical records of patients with HD attending the Fernandes Figueira Institute between 1993 and 2003. Results: out of a total of 55 patients, 98% presented symptoms on birth, 47.2% of whom were diagnosed during the neonatal period; in 88.9% of cases the barium enema was conclusive; 69% had short segment HD; 16.3% Down's Syndrome; 15.2% other congenital anomalies; 40% were screened for RET mutations associated with multiple endocrine neoplasias (MEN2A), although none were detected; 63.6% had staged pull-through surgery on the colon or ileum; 12.72% primary transanal endorectal pull-through surgery; the main complications arising from surgery were sepsis, enterocolitis and obstruction of the intestines; abnormal bowel movements were detected years after the surgery; the mortality rate was 9.25%, the causes of death being post-operal enterocolitis and sepsis. Conclusion: although patients presented symptoms on birth, most were diagnosed at a later stage. Enterocolitis was the main cause of death. Abnormal bowel movements frequently occurred, requiring prolonged follow-up. Although rare, the association with MEN2A needs to be investigated owing to the highly aggressive nature of the disease. The clinical and genetic heterogeneity of HD necessitates the involvement of a multidisciplinary team. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MANAGEMENT science , *ASSOCIATION management , *SELF-evaluation - Abstract
To be successful, organizations must institute processes that guarantee self-reflection and self-evaluation. Evaluation of schools must be understood as a process that aims to submit the school to a deep analysis, with the intention of introducing improvements in all aspects of its functioning. The data collected must allow identification of what the school already does well and the weaker areas to be improved. With regard to the importance of quality evaluation in Coimbra's Nursing School (ESEnfC), we have validated some of the opinion scales used to survey the quality teaching-learning process. The results suggest that the scales can be considered satisfactory for gathering that information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Evaluation of patient satisfaction with care received during hospitalization continues to be necessary for healthcare organizations. However, there are still few instruments which allow evaluation of this satisfaction in the Portuguese population. The aim of the current paper is to contribute to the validation and use of the EORTC IN-PATSAT 32 in the Portuguese population. The questionnaire was administered to a consecutive sample 254 cancer patients on the day of hospital discharge from a surgical unit at a national oncology centre. The results confirm the high internal consistency of the total scale and each of its dimensions, and the robustness of its construction, and this allows us to affirm its validity and reliability. We also highlight the fact that patients were satisfied with the care received during hospitalization, and that no relationship was found between patient satisfaction, length of hospitalization and various socio-demographic variables. QUALITY of life , *MULTICULTURALISM , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *FACTOR structure - Abstract
Introduction. Evaluation of innovative instruments is important prior to its use in different settings; particularly, when they involve the assessment of concepts like quality of life (QOL). Objective. To evaluate the internal structure (IS), factorial structure (FE), discriminant validity (DV), and time required for completion and ease of use of the Multicultural Quality of Life (MQLI) in Argentina. Method. The sample included 100 subjects divided into two groups with presumed different levels of QOL. The Cronbach's alpha was calculated for the IC and the FE was analyzed in the total sample. The DV was studied comparing statistically the average score in a group of psychiatric patients (presumed «lower» QOL, n = 50) with a group of heath professionals and students (presumed «higher» QOL, n = 50). Data on the time and ease of use was compiled. Results. A high Cronbach's α (0.88) was documented. The factorial analysis showed two feasible solutions, one extracting one component with an explained variance of 46.7 %, and another one with two components, increasing the explained variance to 57.2 %. A significant difference between mean total scores was found for the groups with different levels of QOL. The time to complete the MQLI was less than 5 minutes and was reported by the majority of subjects (84 %) and the interviewers (90 %) as of easy application. Conclusions. The results showed that the MQLI has a high internal consistency, adequate factorial structure, and is capable of discriminating groups with different QOL levels; it is concise, and easy to use. DIAGNOSIS of delirium , *HOSPITAL patients , *COGNITION disorders , *NEUROLOGIC manifestations of general diseases - Abstract
Introduction. Delirium is associated with high morbidity and mortality. There are no available instruments validated for evaluation and follow-up of this syndrome in Columbia. Methods. An expert's panel adapted the Spanish DRS-R-98. In 110, randomly selected, medical-surgical hospitalized patients, 17 (15.5 %) of them with delirium diagnosed with DSM-IV-TR criteria, the inter-rater reliability, validity and sensitivity to clinical change of the new adaptation of the scale were measured. Results. Internal consistency (Cronbach's α: 0.956), inter-rater reliability (ICC: 0.95) and validity (94.8 % under the ROC curve area) were very good. For the Cut-off score of 14 for the total scale score, sensitivity was 82.4 % and specificity 97.8 %. The scale was sensitive to clinical change, with a mean difference of 12.9 (t: 4.071; p = 0.007). Conclusions. The Colombian adaptation of the Spanish DRS-R-98 is sensitive, specific and reliable for assessment of delirium in hospitalized adults in medical surgical settings. A partir dos dados encontrados nesta pesquisa, considera-se que o RE Estado neurológico foi validado para paciente com AVC com 14 indicadores, a saber: consciência, controle motor central, função sensorial e motora cranianas, função sensorial e motora da coluna vertebral, comunicação adequada às situações, tamanho das pupilas, reatividade das pupilas, padrão de movimento dos olhos, padrão respiratório, pressão arterial, temperatura corporal, orientação e pressão intracraniana Abstract: Stroke is one of the mainly causes of death and incapability in worldwide on middle age adults and elderly and brings great impact on health by generating high costs for the government. The nurse has fundamental role assisting patients with stroke, since the hospital door until its discharge, rehabilitation or death. They needing knowledge in this area for applying specific care. Some scales can be used by nurses to guide fisical exam and nursing assistance, such as the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) or the nursing outcomes (NO) of Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), which allowed the evaluation of the effect of nursing actions. The aim of this research was to validate the nursing outcome Neurological status for stroke patients. A methodological study was carried out in 5 stages: 1) integrative review on the clinical indicators used for neurological evaluation of stroke patients, 2) construction of constitutive and operational definitions for clinical indicators of NO, 3) validation of content by specialists and 5) convergent clinical validation betwen NO and NIHSS. From the review, 15 indicators with correspondence in the literature were identified. The 22 NOC indicators, identified as those identified in the previous stage, were sent to seven specialists to verify their clinical relevance, seven were excluded, four were suggested and two were grouped, resulting in a final instrument with 14 clinical indicators. For all of them, the conceptual, operational and magnitude definitions were developed, which had the content validated by focus group. At the clinical stage, the final instrument was applied to stroke patients regardless of type, or to cerebral venous thrombosis. It was applied an instrument of sociodemographic characterization and NO and NIHSS by anamnesis and physical examination. The sample consisted of 59 patients, with a male predominance (50.90%), white (62.71%), with a partner (57.62%), with a complete elementary school education (30,50%), with an average family income of R$ 2119.00 and an average age of 58.6 years. Of the 14 clinical indicators of the scale, 13 were validated, only the intracranial pressure indicator was not validated, since no patient in the sample had the measurement catheter at the moment of collection. In the convergent validation of the scales by the Spearman correction coefficient, 7 clinical indicators of RE showed a significant correlation with NIHSS items, as well as a negative correlation between the scales. From the data found in this research, it is considered that the NO Neurological status was validated for stroke patients with 14 indicators, namely: consciousness, central motor control, cranial motor and sensorial function, spinal and motor function of the spine, communication appropriate to situations, pupil size, pupil reactivity, eye movement pattern, respiratory pattern, blood pressure, body temperature, orientation and intracranial pressure Mestrado Cuidado e Inovação Tecnológica em Saúde e Enfermagem Mestra em Ciências da Saúde

ObjectiveTo carry out the cross-cultural adaptation of EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Patient Reported Index (ESSPRI) for Portuguese language and evaluate its psychometric properties.MethodCross-sectional study of patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS). The psychometric properties (intraobserver reproducibility and construct validity) were studied. In construct validity, ESSPRI was compared with the Patient's Global Assessment (PGA), Profile of Fatigue and Discomfort (Profad), Sicca Symptoms Inventory (SSI) and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (Facit-F). Statistical tests used were: Cronbach's alpha, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), Bland–Altman method and Spearman coefficient. A value of p≤0.05 was considered significant.ResultsThere was no difference between versions in both languages; thus, a Brazilian consensual version was obtained. All subjects were women aged 49.4±11.6 years, with onset of symptoms of 7.2±5.4 years, and time of diagnosis of 3.0±3.3 years. The mean ESSPRI was 6.87±1.97. The intraobserver reproducibility was high and significant (0.911) and, with Bland–Altman method, there was no systematic bias in the agreement of measures among evaluations. A moderate correlation of ESSPRI with all tested instruments was observed.ConclusionThe Brazilian Portuguese version of ESSPRI is a valid and reproducible version.

AbstractObjectiveTo assess the following scales’ psychometric characteristics: Perceived Stress (PSS), Family and Friends Support (AFA-R), Depression-Hamilton (HDRS), Depressive Symptomatology (CES-D), Violence and Index of Severity (EV) among Mexican populations, with and without pre-eclampsia.MethodDescriptive and psychometric study. A web search was conducted to decide on which scales use. Nurses applied the scales to 104 hospitalized post-partum women with and without pre-eclampsia. Cronbach alpha was measured to assess reliability. Validity was confirmed by a group of experts and by a pilot study. Principal components, Kaiser, and varimax factor analyses were carried out.ResultsEach scale had internal consistency-acceptable level: PSS .718 and EV .740; good level: AFA-R .911, CES-D .869 and HDRS .806. Content validity was assessed as PSS: 96.42%, EV: 100%, AFA 100%, CES-D: 98.75% and HDRS: 92.64%. The factor structure was well distributed. Each factor had few important weights, and the rest were close to zero. Each variable was not saturated except in one, and barely in two, factors, thus variance was almost not shared. PSS, with 6 factors, had an explicative power of the total variance of 72.23%; AFA-R, with 3 factors and explicative power of 74.19%; HDRS with 6 factors and explicative power of 70.58%; while CES-D, with 6 factors too, had an explicative power of 72.87%. The EV scale had a variance of zero.ConclusionsFindings suggest that the scales PSS, AFA-R, HDRS, and CES-D, due to their reliability, validity, and usefulness, theoretically work well to assess the different variables among the group of studied women. Another factor analysis on the EV scale should be considered for a similar sample.

OBJECTIVE To analyze evidence of the validity and reliability of a Brazilian Portuguese version of the Quality of Care Scale from the perspective of people with physical and intellectual disabilities.METHODS There were 162 people with physical disabilities and 156 with intellectual disabilities from Porto Alegre and metropolitan region, who participated in the study in 2008. Classical psychometrics was used to independently analyze the two samples. Hypotheses for evidence of criterion validity (concurrent type) were tested with the Mann-Whitney test for non-normal distributions. Principal components analysis was used to explore factorial models. Evidence of reliability was calculated with Cronbach alpha for the scales and subscales. Test-retest reliability was analyzed for individuals with intellectual disabilities through intra-class correlation coefficient and the Willcoxon test.RESULTS The principal components in the group with physical disabilities replicated the original model presented as a solution to the international project data. Evidence of discriminant validity and test-retest reliability was found.CONCLUSIONS The transcultural factor model found within the international sample project seems appropriate for the samples investigated in this study, especially the physical disabilities group. Depression, pain, satisfaction with life and disability may play a mediating role in the evaluation of quality of care. Additional research is needed to add to evidence of the validity of the instruments.

This study evaluated the semantic equivalence of the Online Cognition Scale in Brazilian Portuguese. The process included five steps: translation, back-translation, technical review, evaluation of semantic equivalence by trained professionals, and evaluation of the instrument for content understanding by a group of professionals (n = 10) and students (n = 37). The instrument was translated and adapted to Portuguese, showing a high level of verbal comprehension by the target population. The adapted version for use in Brazil resulted in an equivalent instrument from the semantic and content point of view, ready for evaluation of its psychometric qualities in the Brazilian cultural context.
