Abstract

The redox-active centers of cytochrome c oxidase from P. denitrificans together with key amino acids, W164, E278, R473 and R474 are discussed. The DELTA-propionate of heme a(sub 3) is stabilized by hydrogen bonds from W164 and R473 and by charge interactions with R473 and R474.
