Double parking has many negative effects on traffic indicators such as traffic congestion, traffic flow conditions, and traffic safety. Double parking includes parameters that affect drivers' behavioral and traffic habits. Various inspection activities and penal sanctions are implemented to prevent parking violations. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to detect double parking with the YOLOv8 model, one of the deep learning algorithms. In this direction, a data set consisting of a total of 891 images was created, taking into account the streets with high traffic density in İzmit and Erzurum. As a result of the YOLO model, the measurement parameter F1 score value was obtained as 0.83. The mAP@0.5 values of the model for double parking, normal parking and the entire data set were obtained as 0.851, 0.922 and 0.886, respectively. When other performance parameters were examined, it was concluded that the model successfully detected the double parking situation. According to the model performance results, 89% of double and normal parking situations were detected correctly. A data set infrastructure has been created for studies on the detection of double parking. Macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD)-based perimeter control has a potential to improve traffic throughput and relieve the overall congestion. In practice, not only the MFD but also the traffic demand suffers from a variety of inherent uncertainties. Hence, this paper aims to contrive a robust control technique to address the perimeter traffic flow control issue in the oversaturated region. To this end, an integral sliding mode control is proposed to drive the traffic state to the desirable condition. The developed strategy deals with practical issues such as finite time stability and range of uncertainty in both MFD and traffic demand. Theoretical analysis verifies that the developed integral sliding mode control approach can guarantee the finite time convergence of the traffic state to the desired one. The performance of the developed scheme is attested by considering various traffic scenarios with uncertain MFDs and traffic demand, in which a comparative performance study with the proportional and integral control method is conducted. It is indicated that the developed scheme can alleviate the congestion in the urban network and improve the throughput of the urban network. Practical Applications: The research presented in this article proposes a novel perimeter control technique designed to enhance traffic flow management in densely populated urban road networks, particularly during peak congestion times. By leveraging the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) and integral sliding mode control theory, the method significantly boosts traffic throughput and alleviates the impact of congestion. This advancement can be seamlessly integrated into current urban traffic management systems, leading to more efficient and convenient urban commutes. The stability of the transportation system refers to the structural stability of the system. When the system structure is unstable, local or global bifurcation phenomena will occur, which is one of the main reasons for nonlinear traffic phenomena such as congestion. To truly understand the internal mechanism of the formation of these phenomena, it is necessary to analyze the bifurcation of traffic flow. In this paper, the Hopf bifurcation control of a modified viscous macroscopic traffic flow model is studied by using the linear state feedback method, which changes the characteristics of the bifurcation phenomenon of the dynamic system and obtains the required dynamic behavior of the system. First, we can convert the original traffic model into the nonlinear ordinary differential form suitable for bifurcation analysis, solve the equilibrium point of the system, and carry out phase plane analysis. Then, the linear state feedback term is added and the corresponding controlled system is generated, the existence and type of Hopf bifurcation and the existence of saddle node bifurcation are proved. The traffic environment in tunnel entrance area is complex, with prominent issues related to safety and efficiency. However, existing models find it difficult to accurately capture the traffic situation in this area. Therefore, this paper establishes a vehicle dynamics model for the entrance area of a tunnel based on the social force model and artificial potential field. This model can characterize the deceleration behavior of vehicles at the entrance of the tunnel and the interaction between vehicles. By considering the special effects of the tunnel environment, the simulation experiments successfully reproduce the congestion phenomenon in the entrance of the tunnel. Based on this model, this paper proposes a coordinated driving model under vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication environment, and the simulation results show that this model can effectively alleviate the congestion in the entrance area of the tunnel and improve traffic efficiency. Emissions from internal combustion engine vehicles on highways are the major contributors to global warming in the United States. Transportation sector pavement-related emissions come from gasolines and diesel use in vehicles from pavement-vehicle interaction, which is affected by pavement conditions, and by the trucking of new pavement materials and demolition. The objective of this study was to develop a framework for determining the fuel use resulting in environmental impacts caused by construction work zones (CWZs) on a range of vehicles and to produce initial calculations of these impacts by modeling traffic closure conditions for highway maintenance and rehabilitation activities. The study included two common highway categories—freeways/multi-lane highways and two-lane highways. The framework was demonstrated using three CWZ operations under different traffic congestion levels. In the simulation results for a freeway with a CWZ and heavy congestion, fuel consumption increased by 85% and the carbon-dioxide equivalent emissions increased by 86%. Changing CWZ traffic congestion from heavy (average speed 5 mph) to medium (average speed 25 mph for a freeway section) reduced fuel consumption by 40% on a freeway. This study also included use of a pilot car in a CWZ on a two-lane road typical of lower traffic volume state highways and county roads to compare with the drive cycles in MOVES used for the scenarios. The pilot-car operation scenario results indicate that a one-lane closure with pilot-car operation on a two-lane road might consume 13% excess fuel because of idling time and the slow movement of vehicles following the pilot car. With the rapid growth of population and vehicles, issues such as traffic congestion are becoming increasingly apparent. Parking guidance and information (PGI) systems are becoming more critical, with one of the most important tasks being the prediction of traffic flow in parking lots. Predicting parking traffic can effectively improve parking efficiency and alleviate traffic congestion, traffic accidents, and other problems. However, due to the complex characteristics of parking spatio-temporal data, high levels of noise, and the intricate influence of external factors, there are three challenges to predicting parking traffic in a city effectively: (1) how to better model the nonlinear, asymmetric, and complex spatial relationships among parking lots; (2) how to model the temporal autocorrelation of parking flow more accurately for each parking lot, whether periodic or aperiodic; and (3) how to model the correlation between external influences, such as holiday weekends, POIs (points of interest), and weather factors. In this context, this paper proposes a parking lot traffic prediction model based on the fusion of multifaceted spatio-temporal features (MFF-STGCN). The model consists of a feature embedding module, a spatio-temporal attention mechanism module, and a spatio-temporal convolution module. The feature embedding module embeds external features such as weekend holidays, geographic POIs, and weather features into the time series, the spatio-temporal attention mechanism module captures the dynamic spatio-temporal correlation of parking traffic, and the spatio-temporal convolution module captures the spatio-temporal features by using graph convolution and gated recursion units. Finally, the outputs of adjacent time series, daily series, and weekly series are weighted and fused to obtain the final prediction results, thus predicting the parking lot traffic flow more accurately and effectively. Traffic flow prediction is one of the challenges in the development of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Accurate traffic flow prediction helps to alleviate urban traffic congestion and improve urban traffic efficiency, which is crucial for promoting the synergistic development of smart transportation and smart cities. With the development of deep learning, many deep neural networks have been proposed to address this problem. However, due to the complexity of traffic maps and external factors, such as sports events, these models cannot perform well in long-term prediction. In order to enhance the accuracy and robustness of the model on long-term time series prediction, a Graph Attention Informer (GAT-Informer) structure is proposed by combining the graph attention layer and informer layer to capture the intrinsic features and external factors in spatial–temporal correlation. The external factors are represented as sports events impact factors. The GAT-Informer model was tested on real-world data collected in London, and the experimental results showed that our model has better performance in long-term traffic flow prediction compared to other baseline models. The rapid growth of urban traffic has intensified daily congestion, affecting both traffic flow and parking. Accurate parking prediction plays a vital role in effectively managing limited parking resources and is essential for the successful implementation of advanced intelligent systems. In an effort to comprehensively assess the latest developments in parking prediction, we curated a dataset of 639 articles spanning from 2010 to the present, using the Scopus database. Initially, we performed a bibliometric analysis utilizing VOSviewer software. These findings not only illuminate emerging trends within the parking prediction field but also provide strategic guidance for its progression. Subsequently, we categorized advancements in three focal areas: behavior prediction, demand prediction, and parking space prediction. A comprehensive overview of the present research status and future directions was then provided. The findings underscore the substantial progress achieved in current parking prediction models, achieved through diverse avenues like multi-source data integration, multi-variable feature extraction, nonlinear relationship modeling, deep learning techniques application, and ensemble model utilization. These innovative endeavors have not only pushed the theoretical boundaries of parking prediction but also significantly heightened the precision and applicability of predictive models in practical scenarios. Prospective research should explore avenues such as processing unstructured parking datasets, developing predictive models for small-scale data, mitigating noise interference in parking data, and harnessing potent platform fusion techniques. Taxila intersection is facing severe traffic issues includingcongestion, delays, increased travel times and inadequate infrastructure. The aim of the study is to highlight the real problems at Taxila intersection related to road users, vehicles and road infrastructure. Traffic data was collected during peak hours through traffic observing video cameras at the unsignalized intersection. Subsequently, traffic violation measurements and their comparisons between morning and evening peak hours, as well as between weekend and week days were developed. The study also identifies the involvement in traffic violations by different drivers, age groups and vehicle types. Comparing morning and evening peak hours reveals variations in traffic patterns and congestion levels throughout the day, helping to create customized plans. Similarly, investigating disparities between weekends and weekdays uncovers unique factors influencing traffic conditions on different days. Results showed that highest percentage of violations at the intersection resulted from 'illegal crossing of road by pedestrian' followed by 'illegal parking' at the intersection. While the lowest percentage of violation observed was 'wrong way driving' at the intersection. In conclusion, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of the traffic issues at the Taxila intersection and offers evidence-based strategies to improve traffic flow, mitigate congestion, and enhance road safety in the area. Traffic flow is a result of the connection between the derived demand and land use. The derived demand varies in space and time, this study explores how traffic congestion is correlated with land use patterns. Historically, statistical models were used to predict and analyze these patterns. The methodology of this study is to investigate this interaction by statistical methods such as linear regression modeling. This analysis was performed using various land use types that could influence the demand. From the regression analysis, the best influence variables that affect the model are land use variables. The strong statistical parameter is commercial land use, which affects traffic volume, and causes the highest traffic congestion. In addition, correlation values are negative, meaning that as commercial land use increases, traffic flow increases and road capacity decreases. When modeling with the commercial land use variable, we conclude the value of R-Squared = 0.87 and that the relationship is an inverse strong relationship between traffic volumes and commercial land use. Despite the needs of assessing the time-varying queue length for incident traffic management, such imperative information has not yet been available in practice, due partly to the lack of reliable sensor data on many highways plagued by nonrecurrent congestion. Hence, this study first presents an incident queue impact assessment system that allows highway agencies to perform reliable estimate of the queue distance during the incident clearance period with available detector data, and then discusses two alternative models for supporting approximating such impacts on roadway networks without traffic sensors. The proposed system’s major model, grounded in the classical shockwave theory, has augmented the formulations for queue propagation dynamics with the impacts from incoming drivers’ perceptions and responses to the progressively constrained traffic conditions. To cope with the lack of real-time traffic flow information, the first alternative model integrates the increasing available speed data from probe vehicles or other sources with lane blockage patterns to approximate the discharge flow rate of the incident. The second alternative model centers on the methodology and calibration methods for constructing a set of speed– flow rate relationships for different times of day with archived traffic data to approximate the arriving flow rate. With such information, responsible agencies can then proceed the approximation of incident queue variation length and take necessary actions. Performance evaluation of the proposed system with both field incident data and simulated scenarios has confirmed its promising properties, especially for highway networks without reliable traffic surveillance systems. Under the context of rapid development of the Internet of vehicles and vehicle-road collaboration system, active traffic management (ATM) becoming the mainstream means of road traffic control and developing toward refinement. In this paper, to study the high-precision lane-level dynamic induction control strategy in different scenarios, based on the NaSch model of cellular automata and combined with the characteristics of the failure section area, a fuzzy lane-changing bypass vehicle-following model considering lane-changing pressure in multi-lane failure scenarios was built. The simulation results show that (i) if the lane failure occurs on the middle lane, the lane should be induced in advance, and the induced lane change effect is the best at about 100 m. When the lane failure occurs in the left lane and right lane, the prompt is best at about 250 m. (ii) The induced distance should be based on actual traffic conditions, free combination of different early warning distances between 100 and 300 m can save about 20–30 s congestion time. (iii) The lane-level dynamic coordinated guidance control measures can effectively improve the road traffic efficiency compared with the static unified control measures, improve the traffic efficiency of road performance, and alleviate traffic congestion time. The current traffic signal light timing scheme cannot effectively solve the problem of traffic congestion. This paper studied the intelligent control of signal lights based on infrared sensors. Firstly, the traffic flow was detected by infrared sensors; then, the future traffic flow was predicted using a back-propagation neural network; an intelligent control algorithm was designed based on the prediction results, and data were collected at the actual intersection for simulation experiments. It was found that the maximum and minimum root-mean-square error (RMSE) value of the BPNN prediction were 72.33 and 45.77, respectively, i.e., BPNN could predict the traffic flow accurately. Then, in the comparison of timing schemes, the maximum average queuing delay time of the BPNN was 0.55 s, and the maximum average queuing length was 92 m in the case of large traffic flow, both of which were better than the traditional fixed timing scheme. During the construction of concrete bridges, vehicle traffic capacity frequently experiences significant disruptions. To assess this impact, this article conducts a new comprehensive evaluation method. Initially, we calculate the equivalent speed and density of traffic on the construction section, subsequently analyze the functional relationship between these two parameters. By categorizing traffic into three distinct flow states, we compute the traffic congestion index. Furthermore, we establish a multi-lane traffic capacity model to estimate the vehicle traffic capacity during concrete bridge construction. This estimated capacity is then compared with pre-construction traffic capacity data. Experimental results reveal that the traffic capacity reduction rate and traffic flow change rate calculated using new methodology align well with actual values, thereby validating the high accuracy of new evaluation approach in assessing the impact of construction on vehicle traffic capacity. Traffic management is a critical activity, the population is increasing day by day and so the traffic on the road is also increasing. Traffic jams and long waiting queues of vehicles at the road crossing are now part of everyone's life. The traffic lights used at the crossing to regulate the traffic play a vital role in the smooth functioning of traffic movement. At a crossing of four roads, it has been observed that giving an equal amount of green light to all roads is meaningless since the arrival of traffic on different paths is different. Importantly, the arrival rate is responsible for all traffic jams, long queues, and increased waiting time. Therefore, this paper suggests a green light allocation scheme for all paths i depending on the arrival rate of the vehicles. Thus, the allocation of green light will be dynamic. Further, weight is also computed, where more arrival rate means more weight, thereby assigning more time to the green signal. This will help in reducing the long queue length, residual traffic, and long waiting times. On simulating the traffic with the traffic data, the proposed optimized green light allocation scheme to path i reduces the residue traffic to negligible, allowing smooth traffic flow even during peak hours. The work also provides a proficient optimization of the waiting time of vehicles accumulated during the red light. According to the simulation, the maximum time assigned for the green signal during the peak hour of 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM for paths i , where 1 ≤ i ≤ 4 is 39.96, 33.36, 26.64, and 20.04 seconds respectively. Similarly, during the second rush hour of 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the simulation assigns a green signal time of 41.4, 37.2, 24.84, and 16.56 seconds for corresponding paths 1–4. The effect of on street parking in urban commercial areas can cause a degradation of road performance. Therefore, the development of an integrated parking system is crucial to be carried out in commercial areas so that the performance of road sections does not degrade and does not cause heavy congestion. This study aims to provide recommendations for integrated parking locations based on existing parking conditions in the study area, so that they can be integrated and combined in one location. The method used is a primary survey that refers to the guidelines of the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (IRCM) 1997 in analyzing traffic performance, and refer to the Guidelines for the Implementation of Parking Facilities 1997 in analyzing parking conditions. Meanwhile, for recommendations in determining alternative parking locations using SWOT analysis. The result of this research is the proposed location for integrated parking at Pasar Balong with the recommendation of a 4-floor building. The SWOT analysis showed that its strengths are its strategic location and high parking demand, its weaknesses are land limitations and lack of integrated parking management, its opportunities are potential for revenue and increased traffic flow, and its threats are resistance from local businesses and significant investment needs. The implication of this study is to provide a solution to the problem of roadside parking in commercial areas that interfere with traffic flow, improve the efficiency and accessibility of parking facilities for the community, and become a reference for further research on integrated parking management in other commercial areas. With the escalating density of vehicles converging at road intersections, the surge in road accidents, traffic conflicts, and traffic congestion has emerged as a pressing concern. This research paper addresses these challenges by employing MC (manual control) techniques to mitigate encroachment issues at three selected intersections. These intersections were identified through a comprehensive analysis of the Ranking-based Instance Selection (RIS), enabling the design of suitable measures to facilitate smooth traffic flow and minimize the occurrence of crashes. In order to gather pertinent data, the study incorporates various parameters such as traffic volume, peak flow rate (PFR), traffic conflicts, accidents, and intersection inventory. Through the implementation of our proposed approaches, which involve both MC techniques and signalized operation, a supreme level of service (LOS) is attainable. Notably, our findings demonstrate a remarkable reduction in the volume-to-capacity ratio (v/c ratio) of up to 0.62. Urban traffic problems are one of the major challenges in the development of smart cities. To effectively alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban traffic management, a distributed big data analytics platform based on the MapReduce computing framework is investigated to process urban traffic data containing millions of traffic flow, speed and timestamp records. The study proposes an improved Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network algorithm and describes the network structure, training process and parameter tuning in detail. The effectiveness of the improved algorithm was verified through comparative analysis with the traditional ARIMA, linear regression and support vector regression algorithms. The results showed that the improved LSTM algorithm achieved an accuracy of 97.62% in traffic flow prediction, which was significantly better than other algorithms. Traffic congestion is one of the most common problems in the transportation system. In urban planning and construction, traffic congestion increases the difficulty of control and scheduling, hindering the pace of urban modernization development. The development of intelligent transportation systems has to some extent solved these problems, among which traffic flow prediction is particularly crucial. A period processing layer containing concatenation, dimension amplification, and diffusion convolution was studied and designed. On the grounds of this, a graph neural network prediction model combining spatiotemporal period characteristics was designed. And it further introduced a traffic flow prediction method on the grounds of dynamic topology maps. This model combined adaptive topology generation and parameter learning mechanisms, synchronously processing the complex correlation of traffic data and the heterogeneity between nodes through gated recurrent neural networks. The outcomes indicated that the research model is more excellent than other graph learning methods in three evaluation indicators: mean square error, mean absolute percentage error, and root mean square error. Their values were 15.63%, 9.87%, and 25.08%, respectively. The evaluation on all four datasets showed excellent performance of the research model, confirming the effectiveness of its adaptive topology and parameter learning strategy. As the core of reproducing the real nonlinear phenomena of traffic congestion, the investigation of car-following models, which take into account human factors, has consistently assumed a central role within the domain of transportation science. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that prior studies have invariably employed a fixed value for driver reaction time to stimuli, whereas it is imperative to recognize the dynamic nature of this parameter, closely associated with the instantaneous vehicle speed. To address this issue, this paper constructs a dynamic sensitivity coefficient (DSC), and further develops a nonlinear human factoring car-following model to reveal the relation between the reaction time and the current speed. Firstly, the linear critical stability condition and the mKdV equation of the model are derived by the linear stability analysis and kink–antikink solution analytic method, respectively. Then, the numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate that the proposed model is more practical and can reproduce the real driving behavior and phenomena. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on traffic congestion prediction using machine learning (ML) techniques. By evaluating multiple classifiers and selecting the most appropriate one for predicting traffic congestion, this research provides valuable insights for urban planners and policymakers seeking to optimize traffic flow and reduce jamming and. Traffic jamming is a global issue that wastes time, pollutes the environment, and increases fuel usage. The purpose of this project is to forecast traffic congestion at One of the most congested areas in Amman city using multiple ML classifiers. The Naïve Bayes (NB), stochastic gradient descent (SGD) fuzzy unordered rule induction algorithm (FURIA), logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) classifiers have been chosen to predict traffic congestion at each street linked with our study area. These will be assessed by accuracy, F-measure, sensitivity, and precision evaluation metrics. The results obtained from all experiments show that FURIA is the classifier that presents the highest predictions of traffic congestion where By 100% achieved Accuracy, Precision, Sensitivity and F-measure. This paper proposes a convolutional neural network (CNN) model of the signal distribution control algorithm (SDCA) to maximize the dynamic vehicular traffic signal flow for each junction phase. The aim of the proposed algorithm is to determine the reward value and new state. It deconstructs the routing components of the current multi-directional queuing system (MDQS) architecture to identify optimal policies for every traffic scenario. Initially, the state value is divided into a function value and a parameter value. Combining these two scenarios updates the resulting optimized state value. Ultimately, an analogous criterion is developed for the current dataset. Next, the error or loss value for the present scenario is computed. Furthermore, utilizing the Deep Q-learning methodology with a quad agent enhances previous study discoveries. In this article, we advance a model for the traction power supply of a medium-capacity railway system along the major Pham Van Dong (PVD) arterial route situated in the northeastern sector of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam. This study simulates an in-depth analysis of the carrying capacity and feasibility of traction power supply for this scenario based on a safe moving-block system utilizing Communications-based Train Control (CBTC). The research results show that the 750 V DC traction system uses a rigid overhead conductor rail system (ROCS) with distances between traction power stations of up to 6 km with double feeding. The system provides a service frequency of 36 trains per hour per direction, and has a transport capacity of up to 47,520 passengers per hour per direction. The implementation of this solution, as proposed, has the potential to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, reduce environmental pollution, and provide a complete and modern urban railway network for HCMC. The system could also be implemented in other similar global scenarios. In recent years, the problem of traffic congestion has become increasingly serious, and research on traffic system control has become a new hotspot. Studying the bifurcation characteristics of traffic flow systems and designing control schemes for unstable support points can alleviate traffic congestion from a new perspective. This article improves the full speed differential model considering strong wind models from the perspective of bifurcation control to adjust traffic flow. This article theoretically proves the existence conditions of Hopf bifurcation and saddle node bifurcation in the model and finds the stability mutation point of the transportation system stability. A nonlinear system feedback controller was designed for unstable bifurcation points using Chebyshev polynomial approximation and random feedback control methods. Without changing the system equilibrium point, the advance, delay, and elimination of Hopf bifurcation were achieved, and the abrupt behavior of the transportation system was controlled, thereby alleviating traffic congestion. This article explains the changes in the stability of complex transportation systems from the perspective of bifurcation analysis, which can better capture the characteristics of traffic flow. By adjusting the control parameters in the feedback controller, the influence of boundary conditions on the stability of the transportation system is fully described, and the influence of unstable focal points and saddle points on the system is suppressed, thereby slowing down the traffic flow. This study explored whether a policy with maximum velocity limitation prior to each jam point in a traffic flow system can mitigate jam situations in a highway. To quantify this question, a new cellular automata traffic model based on the Revised S-NFS model was established. We perused two specific scenarios: a jam naturally brought by a high traffic density, and one brought by a lane-closed section placed as an explicit bottleneck. In this work, the connected vehicle's messages are used to create an enhanced adaptive traffic signal control (ATSC) system for improved traffic flow. Few existing studies use connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) to develop traffic signal control algorithms under hybrid connected and autonomous conditions. The proposed approach focuses on a four‐phase traffic intersection with both CAVs and human‐driven vehicles (HVs). CAVs share real‐time state information, and a model called Roads Dynamic Segmentation estimates queuing procedures and vehicle fleet numbers on dynamic road sections. This information is used in the Store and Forward Model (SFM) to predict intersection queuing length. The ATSC system, based on model predictive control (MPC), aims to minimize intersection queue length while considering traffic constraints (undersaturated, saturated, and oversaturated) and avoiding free‐flow problems due to queue overflow. To reduce computational complexity, a linear‐quadratic‐regulator (LQR) is used. Real‐world vehicle trajectories and the SUMO tool are used for experimental purposes. Results show that the proposed method reduces average delay by 38.50% and 33.42% compared to fixed timing and traditional MPC in cases of oversaturated traffic flow with 100% CAV penetration. Even with a penetration rate of only 20%, average delay decreases by 13.65% and 6.50%, respectively. This study showcases not only the potential benefits of CAV in enhancing traffic, but also enables the optimal utilization of green duration in signalized intersection control systems. Traffic flow prediction is crucial in intelligent transportation systems. Considering the severe disruptions caused by traffic accidents or congestion, a time series model is developed for traffic flow prediction based on multiple random walks on graphs (MRWG) and the bidirectional spatiotemporal attention mechanism (BSAM), which can adapt to both normal and exceptional situations. The MRWG mechanism is applied to capture spatial features of urban areas during traffic accidents and congestion, especially the spatial dependencies among neighboring regions. Further, a local position attention module is applied to acquire the spatial correlations between different regions to investigate their impact on the global area, while a local temporal attention module is adopted to extract short-term periodic time correlations from traffic flow data. Finally, a spatiotemporal bidirectional attention module is applied to simultaneously extract both the temporal and spatial correlations of the historical traffic flow data in order to generate the output prediction. Experiments have been conducted on NYCTaxi and NYCBike datasets with abnormal events, and the results indicate that the developed model can efficiently predict traffic flow in abnormal events, especially short-term traffic disruptions, outperforming the baseline methods under both abnormal and normal conditions. Variable Speed Limit (VSL) systems aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety performance have been implemented around the world in previous years. However, field studies have shown controversial results regarding traffic performance improvement. This study integrates statistical testing methods and clustering techniques for assessing the effect of a non-mandatory VSL system on traffic flow performances on a 14-km portion of the Padua–Mestre motorway in Italy. Statistical analysis is conducted on the observed speeds, collected for almost one year, to identify any significant differences provided by VSL activation. The changes in global motorway performances induced by the VSL in typical traffic patterns under recurring congestion are assessed using both statistical tests and two specific clustering algorithms, namely K-means and DBSCAN. The results indicate that the VSL system effectively affects the observed speeds and alleviates congested conditions: the observed reduction in mean travel time ranges is around 4% with the VSL system active across various lanes; the standard deviation of vehicular speeds witnessed a decrease of 12% to 20% in the most congested segments, while no notable distinction is observed in traffic flows. Connected and automated vehicles can reduce the traffic congestion level of the entire network through platoon-driving technologies compared to human-driven vehicles. One promising approach to enhancing platoon-driving technology's efficiency is deploying dedicated lanes or roads for connected and automated vehicles. Since asymmetric interactions between different vehicle types increase road congestion, it is necessary to distinguish routes for efficient traffic management. However, the traditional traffic assignment problem, which uses only user equilibrium as a constraint with no difference in travel time between users, could not be proposed as a globally optimal solution because it generates an infinite number of locally optimal solutions. Recent studies have attempted to overcome the limitations by considering the sum of system-wide travel times as an additional constraint. Their research sought to help propose optimal deployment strategies through the lowest total travel time solution (best-case) or design robust transport planning strategies through the highest total travel time solution (worst-case). However, past studies have not focused on the possibility of the best/worst case appearing in reality. This study focused on the relationship between the two solutions pointed out in past studies and traffic patterns likely to appear in reality. This study interprets the Karush–Kun–Tucker condition of the static traffic assignment problem, considering the asymmetric interaction, and proposes a solution algorithm using discrete dynamics. The proposed algorithm extends the most widely used method in transportation planning research, which can overcome the limitations of asymmetric interaction problems through simple variations. The proposed algorithm can reliably derive two solutions, and entropy theory shows that both solutions are unlikely to appear in reality without additional policies such as dedicated lanes or roads. Accurate air traffic flow prediction assists controllers formulate control strategies in advance and alleviate air traffic congestion, which is important to flight safety. While existing works have made significant efforts in exploring the high dynamics and heterogeneous interactions of historical air traffic flow, two key challenges still remain. (1) The transfer patterns of air traffic are intricate, subject to numerous constraints and limitations such as controllers, flight regulations, and other regulatory factors. Relying solely on mining historical traffic evolution patterns makes it difficult to accurately predict the constrained air traffic flow. (2) Weather conditions exert a substantial influence on air traffic, making it exceptionally difficult to simulate the impact of external factors (such as thunderstorms) on the evolution of air traffic flow patterns. To address these two challenges, we propose a Spatiotemporal Knowledge Distillation Network (ST-KDN) for air traffic flow prediction. Firstly, recognizing the inherent future insights embedded within flight plans, we develop a "teacher-student" distillation model. This model leverages the prior knowledge of upstream-downstream migration patterns and future air traffic trends inherent in flight plans. Subsequently, to model the influence of external factors and predict air traffic flow disturbed by thunderstorm weather, we propose a student network based on the "parallel-fusion" structure. Finally, employing a feature-based knowledge distillation approach to integrate prior knowledge from flight plans and extract meteorological features, our method can accurately capture complex and constrained spatiotemporal dependencies in air traffic and explicitly model the impact of weather on air traffic flow. Experimental results on real-world flight data demonstrate that our method can achieve better prediction performance than other state-of-the-art comparison methods, and the advantages of the proposed method are particularly prominent in modeling the complicated transfer pattern of air traffic and inferring nonrecurrent flow patterns. Now-a-days since number of vehicles are growing day by day on the roads in urban and metropolitan area, hence traffic jam is becoming very common problem which everyone is facing time to time. So it becomes very crucial to forecast traffic to avoid the regular traffic congestion situation in daily life. In today's intelligent traffic system, reliable and precise traffic forecasting in metropolitan road networks is critical. Many models based on classical methods have been presented to address this; however, they lag in certain circumstances, failing to incorporate spatial and temporal dependency in the environment. As a result, this research aims to solve the geographical and temporal dependency problem that plagues most traffic forecasting models. Graph Convolution Network (GCN) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) are employed in conjunction with an attention-based model for more accurate traffic forecasts in cities. A combined model called Spatio-Temporal Attention-based Model with GCN and GRU (ST AGG) is employed to anticipate traffic. ST-AGG model mainly focuses on extracting the relevant information from all the input given to the attention-based model. The spatial dependency is determined by using GCN and the temporal dependency is determined by using GRU, used in the ST-AGG model. It assists in short-term traffic forecasting as well as long-term traffic forecasting. The results demonstrate that the suggested ST AGG has properly predicted the volume of traffic on city roadways in real time with greater accuracy. The model depicts how traffic is influenced by geography and time. The Shen Zhen (SZ) car dataset from China and the Los Angeles (LAS) dataset from California are used to test the suggested model. And the result shows that Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) have reduced by up to 2.7% less, and accuracy has increased by 2.7% more compared to the previous model ST GCN for the SZ vehicle dataset. Similarly, although the accuracy has not changed significantly for the Loss Angeles data set, RMSE and MAE have reduced by 3.71% less as compared to the previous ST GCN model. Accurate traffic prediction is indispensable for relieving traffic congestion and people's daily trips. Nevertheless, accurate traffic flow prediction is still challenging due to the traffic network's complex and dynamic spatial and temporal dependencies. Most existing methods usually ignore the dynamicity of spatial dependencies or have limitations, as using the self-attention mechanism for capturing dynamic spatial dependencies is computation forbidden in large networks. In addition, there are both short- and long-range dynamic temporal dependencies, which are not well captured. To overcome these limitations, we propose an intelligent dynamic spatial and temporal graph convolutional system for traffic flow prediction. First, we propose a dynamic spatial block to capture the complex and dynamic spatial dependencies, which is computation-friendly. Next, we propose a dynamic temporal block to capture the complex and dynamic temporal dependencies, which well balances the short- and long-range dynamic temporal dependencies. We validate and analyze the performance of the proposed method through extensive experiments on two traffic datasets. Analysis of results demonstrates that our proposed model has better prediction performance than the state-of-art baselines. The hydrodynamic model can be used to describe traffic problems in transport. When the speed of the first car is less than the speed behind it, it leads to traffic jams. When the first car's speed is faster than the cars behind it, it leads to traffic evacuation. If we consider the first car to be a piston, then the speed of the piston will cause traffic jams and traffic evacuation. In this paper, we study the piston problem for the hydrodynamic model. The formation and propagation of shock wave, rarefaction wave, delta-shock wave, and vacuum can describe the phenomena of traffic jams, traffic evacuation, severe traffic jams, and traffic evacuation with traffic volume of zero, respectively. Global urbanization and increasing traffic volume have intensified traffic congestion throughout transportation infrastructure, particularly at toll plazas, highlighting the critical need to implement proactive transportation infrastructure solutions. Traditional toll plaza management approaches, often relying on manual interventions, suffer from inefficiencies that fail to adapt to dynamic traffic flow and are unable to produce preemptive control strategies, resulting in prolonged queues, extended travel times, and adverse environmental effects. This study proposes a proactive traffic control strategy using advanced technologies to combat toll plaza congestion and optimize traffic management. The approach involves deep learning convolutional neural network models (YOLOv7–Deep SORT) for vehicle counting and an extended short-term memory model for short-term arrival rate prediction. When projected arrival rates exceed a threshold, the strategy proactively activates variable speed limits (VSLs) and ramp metering (RM) strategies during peak hours. The novelty of this study lies in its predictive and adaptive capabilities, ensuring efficient traffic flow management. Validated through a case study at Ravi Toll Plaza Lahore using PTV VISSIMv7, the proposed method reduces queue length by 57% and vehicle delays by 47% while cutting fuel consumption and pollutant emissions by 28.4% and 34%, respectively. Additionally, by identifying the limitations of conventional approaches, this study presents a novel framework alongside the proposed strategy to bridge the gap between theory and practice, making it easier for toll plaza operators and transportation authorities to adopt and benefit from advanced traffic management techniques. Traffic congestion poses a persistent and escalating problem for major cities in both developed and developing countries, exerting a direct impact on the economic growth and development of these urban areas. Quantifying the extent of traffic congestion is the fundamental initial step in comprehending the severity of traffic congestion in order to devise effective methods for alleviation. The city of Addis Ababa is currently experiencing significant traffic congestion at its main intersections. The primary aim of this research is to assess the current level of traffic congestion at specific intersections. The assessment of traffic congestion was conducted using the travel time method. Data on travel time, traffic volume, and travel speed were gathered at three blocks and two intersections using a combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The travel rate, delay rate, and total travel delay (in vehicle-minutes) were computed. The total vehicle-minute delay for the selected three segments is estimated to be approximately 12,708 vehicle-minutes (or 212 vehicle-hours). With the development of vehicle-road network technologies, the future traffic flow will appear in the form of hybrid network traffic flow for a long time. Due to the change in traffic characteristics, the current hard shoulder running strategy based on traditional traffic characteristics cannot effectively serve the hybrid network traffic flow scenario, and will even lead to the further deterioration of traffic congestion. In order to propose a hard shoulder running strategy suitable for a hybrid network environment, a traffic breakdown prediction method based on a hidden Markov model was established. To address urban traffic congestion, researchers have made various efforts to mitigate issues such as prolonged travel time, fuel wastage, and pollutant emissions. These efforts primarily involve microscopic route selection from the vehicle perspective, multi-vehicle route optimization based on traffic flow information and historical data, and coordinated route optimization that models vehicle interaction as a game behavior. However, existing route selection algorithms suffer from limitations such as a lack of heuristic, low dynamicity, lengthy learning cycles, and vulnerability to multi-vehicle route conflicts. To further alleviate traffic congestion, this paper presents a Period-Stage-Round Route Selection Model (PSRRSM), which utilizes a population game between vehicles at each intersection to solve the Nash equilibrium. Additionally, a Period Learning Algorithm for Route Selection (PLA-RS) is proposed, which is based on a multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient. The algorithm allows the agents to learn from the population game and eventually transition into autonomous learning, adapting to different decision-making roles in different periods. The PSRRSM is experimentally validated using the traffic simulation platform SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) in both artificial and real road networks. The experimental results demonstrate that PSRRSM outperforms several comparative algorithms in terms of network throughput and average travel cost. This is achieved through the coordination of multi vehicle route optimization, facilitated by inter-vehicle population games and communication among road agents during training, enabling the vehicle strategies to reach a Nash equilibrium. The connected and automated car-following model can provide a model reference for the queue control algorithm of connected and automated driving and has become a hot research topic in the field of connected vehicles and intelligent transportation. A queue of fast-moving vehicles on urban roads can cause traffic congestion when forced to slow down and, in serious cases, can cause rear-impact accidents. Therefore, this paper introduces information on the time delay of information reception and processing, a collision risk quantification factor reflecting the speed characteristics of the front vehicle, and the speed limit and proposes an improved intelligent driver collision quantification model that considers drastic changes in the speed of the front vehicle. Additionally, the model parameters are calibrated using real vehicle data from urban roads combined with an improved salp swarm algorithm. Finally, the evolution rule of disturbance in the traffic flow under different states is analyzed using a time-space diagram, and the DIDM-CSCL model is compared with the classical IDM. As autonomous vehicles (AVs) continue to evolve and approach widespread adoption in the near future, the touted benefits of improved fuel efficiency at an individual level come under scrutiny when considering the overall impact on fuel consumption. This research delves into the paradoxical relationship between the promising technology of AVs, their impact on traffic capacities, travel demand, and the subsequent influence on aggregate fuel consumption. While AVs have demonstrated enhanced fuel efficiency when considered as a singular mode of transportation, our study reveals a contrasting trend when scaled to a broader societal context. Through comprehensive analysis of the literature, we discovered that, at lower limits of energy savings achievable by a single AV, the overall fuel consumption increases by a staggering 42% compared to conventional human-driven vehicles. This counterintuitive outcome is a result of the aggregate effect of increased AV usage, leading to higher traffic volumes and travel demands. Conversely, at higher thresholds of energy savings by individual AVs, the percentage of fuel consumption increment diminishes, but remains notable. Even with advanced energy-saving features, the overall fuel quantity still experiences a substantial 30% increase compared to conventional vehicles when scaled up to widespread AV use. Our findings emphasize the importance of considering the holistic impact of AVs on transportation systems and energy consumption. Rapid global urbanization has led to a growing urban population, posing challenges in transportation management. Persistent issues such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and safety risks persist despite attempts to mitigate them, hindering urban progress. Information about spatial distribution (OD flows) is a key element in traffic management systems in urban transport networks that enables efficient traffic control and decisions to redirect traffic to less congested sections of the network in emergencies. With the development of modern techniques of remote sensing, more and more advanced methods are used to measure traffic and determine OD flows. However, they may produce results with different levels of errors caused by various factors. The article examines the impact of traffic volume and its variability on the error values of short-term prediction of the OD matrix in the urban network. The OD flows were determined using a deep learning network based on data obtained from video remote sensing devices. These data were recorded at earlier intervals concerning the forecasting time. The extent to which there is a correlation between the size of OD flows and the prediction error was examined. The most frequently used measure of prediction accuracy, i.e., MAPE (mean absolute percentage error), was considered. The analysis carried out made it possible to determine the ranges of traffic flow rate for which the MAPE stabilizes at the level of approximately 6%. A set of video remote sensing devices was used to collect spatiotemporal data. They were located at the entrances and exits from the study area on important roads of a medium-sized city in Poland. The conclusions obtained may be helpful in further research on improving methods to determine OD matrices and estimate their reliability.
