This article explores the evolution of Spanish teen series, broadcast by generalist televisions on VOD platforms from its beginning at 1997 to 2020. The sample includes 24 productions starring teenagers. The analysis carried out reveals the configuration of a subgenre of its own and its concern to address issues of interest to young audiences. A progressive dissociation between romantic love and sex is evidenced, as well as less dependence on the family and an increase in generational conflicts.

Advertising and audiovisual productions market begins to behave like the rest of the economic sectors: It is produced locally and can be consumed globally. This means that sometimes the sale of formats and export of audiovisual programs is another phase of the product development process that is contemplated from the start phase in the life cycle. We focus on a specific case, the Andalusian, where the “Radiotelevisión Andaluza” (RTVA), through outsourcing), has begun to take out programming and productions outside (Andalusia and Spain) by selling its rights to televisions such as “Televisión de Castilla la Mancha” or the German ARD. We study here a specific case: The Afternoon, here and now.

This article collects a comparison of the family’s representation in the TV series of the generalist TV channels between 1990 and 2010, coinciding with the decades before and after the turn of the century. Based on a qualitative methodology that analyses the drama and comedy TV series with the most audience successes, the prevailing family models are compared in order to establish whether gender particularities affect the representation of families in narrative plots. The results show a greater tendency towards the destruction of families in comedies, although it is true that the dramatic series, when they do, impetuously break the established family canon. This work analyzes the representation of maternity on TV fiction, in order to provide a reflection about how they establish narratives that give meaning to women and their roles within different TV series. With this purpose, a qualitative methodology has been carried out, which analyzes six series of TV fiction, three from Spain and three from America, which at the same time are integrated into two border genres: drama and dramedy. The results indicate that, even though TV fiction incorporates new discourses introducing relevant topics for women today, the representation of motherhood continues to be portrayed from a traditional and patriarchal perspective. However, a certain narrative innovation has been observed in the case of American TV series.

From the consolidation of soap operas, the stereotype of the femme fatale, conceived as a seductive and persuasive woman and the causer of the evils of the world, is configured as the antagonistic villain by excellence, directly influencing the social construction of women. This work, using a qualitative methodology based on a documentary analysis with a semiotic approach, analyzes how the telenovela has appropriated the stereotype of the femme fatale, has standardized it and configured it anf has personalized it in the narrative discourses.

This article presents an analysis of the original content of fictional series created by one of the leading companies in the streaming television market, Netflix. This work aims at offering an in-depth study of the original series of the company Netflix, which will allow to classify these contents according to their strategic nature and, secondly, to offer a formal taxonomic overview on them. In addition, their forms, formats, languages, genres and thematic descriptors are analysed in order to establish a taxonomy for the classification of Netflix's original content. To this end, this article is based on a quantitative method with qualitative contributions, adopting a descriptive but also exploratory approach. Its sample is made up of 490 series available on the Spanish version of the platform from its beginning in 2013 to 2019. The results lead to find a commitment to the production of fictional series with a global nature, but also focused on the local through alliances and productive methods with local businesses. Furthermore, the importance of in-house production as a present and mediumterm future strategy is highlighted, together with the commitment to the division of production languages, considering local languages as a resource for the acceptance of the products. As for the predominant formats, a new trend marks how new audiovisual products are created by focusing, among other things, on reducing the duration and longevity of the series broadcast by the company. TV fiction assumes a socializing role that influences the configuration of the collective identity. So that, the influence of fiction on the social construction of women becomes very important thanks to its ability to configure identities, influence behaviors and condition the socialization process. This paper aims to deepen the temporal and historical evolution of woman representation in Spanish fiction and to establish perspectives in this representation. For this, we have worked on a qualitative methodology, with a socio-semiotics focus, that analyzes the longest series with more audience in the history of Spanish TV fiction, from two contexts: Family and profesional, to know the role that has been given to women in different contexts of fiction. The results provide relevant conclusions about the role of women in Spanish TV fiction: the woman in the family context continues assuming the role of mother and wife, while in the work context, she develops her work under the control of man. All this, with reflections of empowerment that, after all, do not eliminate the patriarchal marks of society and, therefore, of TV fiction.

Since the opening of the Spanish TV market in the 1990s, the development of fiction genres, formats and narratives has evolved notoriously, generating a universe of forms and narrations that has configured the history of Spanish TV. The family comedy, in this context, is postulated as one of the most relevant fiction subgenres of Spanish TV, thanks to its easy assimilation, the identification it generates with the audience, its formats and its dissemination strategy, which has contributed to the success of family comedy on television. This article combines quantitative data with documental reflection and discourse analysis to offer a taxonomy of the standards that have guided the configuration of family comedy in Spanish TV. The study is based on the analysis of 47 cases of family comedy, broadcast from 1990 to 2010 in mainstream TV channels, using three different perspectives: format, viewership and production aspects. The results offer relevant data about the family comedy genre that allow us to establish a specific approach to the configuration of a standard of form, reach and production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
