Abstract

Introduction. This article analyses the representation and relevance of family models in Spanish television comedy. Methods. The study is based on the qualitative analysis of 46 family comedy series produced and broadcast by mainstream television channels from the opening of the Spanish television market (in 1990) to the digital switchover (in 2010). Conclusions and discussion. The results offer a chronological description of the evolution of family representations in Spanish television comedy and confirm that the construction of the family within this genre alternates hyperrealism with conservatism.
