Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the third leading cause of death from cancer in the United States. We aimed to disclose the prognostic values of examined (dissected) lymph node (ELN), negative lymph node (NLN), and positive (metastatic) lymph node (PLN) counts and lymph node (LNs) ratio in PCa patients. Methods: We extracted data of PCa patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2015 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program. We included patients with a histologically confirmed diagnosis having at least one ELN and with the PCa as the primary tumor only. Results: We have included 96,064 patients. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression modelsdisclosed that patients having more ELNs were associated with better survival. However, we demonstrated that patients having more PLNs were associated with worse survival. Additionally, older age, unmarried patients, with Gleason's score of 8–10, T4 and M1 stages and those who received chemotherapy and/or radiation but did not receive surgery were significantly associated with worse PCa survival. Conclusions: We have disclosed several independent predictors affecting PCa patients including age, marital status, Gleason's score, T and N stages, having received therapy, surgery, and ELN and PLN counts. Moreover, we demonstrated that patients with lower ELN and higher PLN counts were a high-risk group. Background: We aimed to investigate the prognostic role of examined (dissected) lymph nodes (ELNs), negative LNs (NLNs), and positive (metastatic) LNs (PLNs) counts and LN ratio (LNR = PLNs/ELNs×100) in patients with major salivary gland cancer (SGC). Methods: Data were retrieved for major SGC patients diagnosed between 1988 and 2011 from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program. Results: We have included 5446 patients with major SGC. Most patients had parotid gland cancer (84.61%). Patients having >18 ELNs, >4 PLNs, and >33.33% LNR were associated with a worse survival. Moreover, older age, male patients, grade IV, distant stage, unmarried patients, submandibular gland cancer, and received chemotherapy but not received surgery were significantly associated with a worse survival. Conclusions: We demonstrated that patients with >18 ELNs and >4 PLNs counts, and >33.33% LNR were high‐risk group patients. We strongly suggest adding the ELNs and PLNs counts and/or LNR into the current staging system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: As diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for Hodgkin's Lymphoma (HL) continue to improve, patient‐related factors affecting survival become more difficult to identify. Very little is known about the relationship between the primary site of lymph node (LN) involvement and survival of HL patients. We retrospectively analyzed the United States Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database for 12,658 HL patients reported between 1973 and 2010 using survival analysis and time‐interval multiple logistic regression (MLR) to disclose that relationship. The effect of all primary LN sites on the survival of HL patients was supported. The intra‐abdominal (IAB) primary LN site was significantly associated with the worst survival. The pelvic (P) LN sites were significantly and independently associated with nearly 2 times and 2.5 times the probability of having 1‐year overall mortality (OM) and 1‐year cancer‐specific mortality (CSM), respectively. Head, face and neck (HFN) primary LN sites were significant and independent predictors of better overall and HL‐specific survival. A worse survival with the intra‐abdominal primary LN site was probably related to their association with higher age, or advanced stages of HL. The biological basis behind the aggressiveness of intra‐abdominal and pelvic LN sites is yet to be investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) survivors are at a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Methods: A population-based study was conducted to investigate the cardiovascular mortality trends to identify NHL survivors at the highest risk. Results: The CVDs mortality was the second most common cause of death (13.07%) after NHL. There were more patients ≥ 60 years old in the cardiovascular group (87.2%), P < 0.001. Patients who died from CVDs had the best survival while patients who died from NHL had a significantly lower mean survival. The overall survival rate was 92.4%. Consistently, older age, unmarried, male patients, not recently diagnosed with NHL and not receiving radiation and/or surgery were associated with a worse survival across all models. The black race and stage IV only had a worse cardiovascular specific survival (CVSS). Conclusions: Although the CVSS improved over time, the mortality from the CVDs is still the second most common cause of death after NHL. Older age, not married, black, male patients, not recently diagnosed with NHL, with an advanced stage and not receiving radiation and/or surgery were associated with a worse survival. Risk factor modification along with CVDs screening should be intensified in NHL patients with these mortality predictors. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
