Proper bonding to dentin depends on efficient infiltration of resin into the demineralized microporous collagen and formation of hybrid layer. Grape Seed Extract (GSE) has up to 97% PA and can potentially stimulate collagen cross linking and increase the stiffness of dentin. This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of GSE on composite-dentin bond strength in different times and concentrations. In this experimental study, 60 freshly sound extracted teeth selected. The dentin surface of each specimen was acid-etched with 37% Phosphoric acid gel for 15 seconds and then they were rinsed for 10 s with distilled water. All teeth were divided to five groups (each group consists of 12 teeth). In control group GSE was not applied and in other groups different concentrations of GSE were applied for different times. The micro-shear bond strength of composite-dentin interface was evaluated using universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA test by SPSS software ver.15 ( α=0.05). The highest bond strength of one-day group was 17.28 MPa and the lowest bond strength in one-hour and one-minute group was 3.70 MPa. The difference between control group and one-day group, one-hour group and oneminute group was significant (p values 0.002, 0.024 and 0.012 respectively). Mann-Whitney revealed also that there was no significant difference between the experimental groups. We concluded that the produced GSE material could not improve the bond strength between adhesive and dentin.

Objectives: To evaluate the shear bond strength of composite resin to deep dentin, bonded using a self-etch adhesive, after treatment with two collagen cross-linkers at varying time intervals. Materials and Methods: Thirty extracted human incisors were sectioned longitudinally into equal mesial and distal halves ( n = 60). The proximal deep dentin was exposed and the specimens were divided based on the surface treatment of dentin prior to bonding as follows: Group I ( n = 12, control): No prior dentin surface treatment; group II ( n = 24): Dentin surface pretreated with 10% sodium ascorbate; and group III ( n = 24): Dentin surface pretreated with 6.5% proanthocyanidin. Groups II and III were further divided into two subgroups based on the pre-treatment time of five and 10 min. Shear bond strength of the specimens was tested using universal testing machine and the data were statistically analyzed. Results: Significantly higher shear bond strength to deep dentin was observed in teeth treated with 10% sodium ascorbate and 6.5% proanthocyanidin compared to control group. No significant difference was observed between 5 min and 10 min pre-treatment times. Conclusion: Dentin surface pre-treatment with both 10% sodium ascorbate and 6.5% proanthocyanidin resulted in significant improvement in bond strength of self-etch adhesive to deep dentin.

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of nanocomposite resin to superficial dentin and deep dentin using two different dentin bonding systems. Materials and Methods: All teeth were sectioned at various levels (superficial dentin: Dentin within 0.5-1 mm of dentinoenamel junction; deep dentin: Dentin within 0.5 mm of the highest pulp horn) using a Carborundum Disc and embedded in acrylic block of specific size. Selected specimens (60 premolar teeth) were grouped randomly into three groups, the groups were differentiated into superficial dentin, deep dentin, and control group which were further divided into sub Group A and Subgroup B containing 10 teeth each, depending on the bonding agents used. In Subgroup A, Tetric N Bond, and in Subgroup B Single Bond Universal were used. In the control group no bonding agent was used. The specimens were thermocycled for 500 cycles between 5°C and 55°C water bath for 40 s. Finally, the specimens were subjected to shear bond strength study under INSTRON machine (Universal Testing Machine). The maximum shear bond strengths were noted at the time of fracture (de-bonding) of the restorative material. Results were analyzed using ANOVA test, Bonferroni test, and paired t-test. Results: Bond strength values of fifth generation bonding system (Tetric N Bond) showed higher mean shear bond strength compared to seventh generation bonding system (Single Bond Universal). There was a significant fall in bond strength values as one reaches deeper levels of dentin from superficial to deep dentin. Conclusion: There was a significant difference between the bond strength of fifth generation bonding system (Tetric N Bond) and seventh generation bonding system (Single Bond Universal). Decrease in the bond strength values is seen for the deeper level of dentin as compared to superficial dentin.

Background: Improvement in dentistry shows some progresses, due to patients awareness on the importance of dental care. Cervical lesion is the most common phenomenon which oftenly found 46.36% in man and 38.13% in woman. Cervical lesions need composite restoration for treatment to stop the process of tissue damage. The process of adhesion of composite restoration material to the structure of the tooth is not easily separated and it needs optimal function in the oral cavity. Application of dentin bonding agents to attach the composite is needed. Selection of HEMA-based bonding material and Hema free-based bonding material which have a different solvent in their composition, as applied to the dentin superficial and deep dentin, affect the results of debonding test. Debonding test is done to measure the adhesion strength of a bonding material. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze differences in tensile bond strength of dentine bonding HEMA-based and HEMA-free based after application in superficial and deep dentine surfaces. Method: The tooth of the bovine was as samples. A superficial dentine sample was taken from 0.5-1 mm of dentino enamel junction and a deep dentine sample was taken from 0.5 mm culmination of pulp horn. Dentine surface area was equal to p x r 2 = (3.14 x 2 2 ) = 12.56 mm 2 . Six samples of HEMA-based bonding was applied to the dentine superficial. Six samples of HEMAfree based bonding was applied to the superficial dentine. Six samples of HEMA-based bonding was applied to the deep dentine. Six samples of HEMA-free based bonding was applied to the deep dentine. Tensile strength was measured using an Autograph AG-10TE. Result: There were differences tensile bond strength of dentine bonding HEMA-based and HEMA-free based after the application on superficial (p=0.000) and deep dentine surfaces (p=0.000). Conclusion: There were differences tensile bond strength of dentine bonding HEMA-based and HEMA-free based after the application on superficial and deep dentine surfaces. The use of dentine bonding materials HEMA-free based were better than HEMA-based after application on different dentine depths.

The purpose of this study was to determine, through the shear bond strength of in vitro tests, that the type of glass-ionomer cements (conventional or hybrid) and dentin depth (superficial or deep) are factors that may influence the adhesion of these materials to the dentin structure. Specimens of two conventional glass-ionomer cements (Vidrion R® - SS White and Chelon Fil®- Espe) and a hybrid-glass ionomer cement (Vitremer® - 3M) were separated in groups and prepared for the shear bond strength test. The results submitted to statistical analysis were (all values are in MPa): Group I - Vidrion R - superficial dentin 1.97 (± 0.56); deep dentin 3.15 (± 1.51); Group II - Chelon Fil - superficial dentin 2.43 (± 1.43); deep dentin 3.21 (± 0.89); and Group III - Vitremer - superficial dentin 7.04 (± 2.04); deep dentin 10.30 (± 1.99). Espécimes de dois cimentos convencionais (Vidrion R® - SSWhite e Chelon Fil®- Espe) e um cimento de ionômero de vidro híbrido (Vitremer®- 3M) foram divididos em grupos. Os resultados (todos os valores em MPa) submetidos à análise estatística foram: Grupo I - Vidrion R - dentina superficial, 1,97 (± 0,56); dentina profunda, 3,15 (± 1,51); Grupo II - Chelon Fil - dentina superficial, 2,43 (± 1,43); dentina profunda, 3,21 (± 0,89); e Grupo III - Vitremer - dentina superficial, 7,04 (± 2,04); dentina profunda, 10,30(± 1,99). Houve diferenças significantes entre a profundidade de dentina e o tipo de ativação do material
