Iran is one of the most potent energy exporters and fastest‐growing energy consumers in the world. Its large amount of energy exported can directly impact the economy of importer countries. Iran's energy matrix mostly consists of hydrocarbons, while the remaining portion is compounded by a blend of biofuels, hydropower, wind, solar, and other renewable sources. Even though the country has an excellent potential to reach a large amount of renewable power, it is most likely that Iran will deal with a shortage in its electricity segment during the upcoming years. Besides wind and solar energy, bioenergy appears to be a good alternative for enhancing the country's energy matrix and transit Iran's energy consumption pattern from a high‐level usage of hydrocarbons to a more renewable scenario. Therefore, in the present paper, the role of Iran in global energy production is discussed, and its potential for renewable energy generation is described. The review presents a vast set of data related to environmental, infrastructural, economic, and social aspects to clarify the potential and benefits of Iran's transition to a more renewable energy matrix. The investigations revealed the country's extremely favourable conditions to use bioenergy resources as a key solution to avoiding future energy crises, besides improving quality of life. The context can help researchers, power suppliers, and energy consumers know how renewable energies, especially bioenergy, can modify the energy matrix of a country rich in hydrocarbon resources. Partial shading conditions (PSC) across the solar photovoltaic (PV) array reduce the overall power yield of the PV plant. Therefore, it is essential to decrease mismatch power loss (MPL) incurred under PSC. For this purpose, total‐cross‐tied (TCT)‐based 'hybrid interconnection' schemes of solar PV array are investigated in the present research work. Proposed novel hybrid bridge‐link (BL)‐TCT and honey‐comb (HC)‐TCT interconnection schemes are found to be effective alternatives to achieve increased solar PV array output power. The performance of the proposed 'hybrid interconnection' schemes is studied by subjecting the 9 × 9 sized solar PV array under four different categories of PSC. The efficacy of the proposed 'hybrid interconnection' schemes is justified to be superior by comparing the simulation results obtained from the proposed interconnection schemes with the earlier reported conventional 'S‐P, B‐L, H‐C, and traditional TCT' interconnection schemes. Further, it is observed that output power is additionally enhanced using a bypass diode connected across individual modules of the solar PV array. The simulation results indicate that the proposed 'hybrid interconnection' schemes with values of 17.5%, 21.28%, 54.33%, and 50.4% under four categories of typical PSC have the lowest MPL relatively compared to that of literature‐reported conventional interconnection schemes. In addition, the proposed 'hybrid interconnection' schemes with the performance enhancement (PE) values of 82.5%, 78.7%, 45.66%, and 49.6% under four categories of typical PSC have the highest PE relatively compared to literature‐reported conventional interconnection schemes. Based on the comparative analysis of results obtained upon four typical PSC, it is concluded that the proposed 'hybrid interconnection' schemes provide a relatively superior output performance compared to that of the conventional 'S‐P, B‐L, H‐C, and traditional TCT' interconnection schemes. Enhancement in solar energy (SE) injection into the power system network creates power quality (PQ) issues in the supply. This article presents an approach supported by Stockwell transform ($S$ -transform) for assessment of PQ issues related with the grid interfaced solar photovoltaic (SPV) system under various operating conditions. This will help to enhance the SE integration level into the utility grid. The set up, to perform assessment of the PQ issues includes an emulated SPV system interfaced with the utility at the point of common coupling (PCC). Measurements of voltage and current signals are performed by utilizing power network analyzer. The captured voltage signals are analyzed using $S$ -transform for the detection of a variety of PQ problems associated with the grid interfacing and outage of the SPV system. Effects on PQ due to presence of the various types of loads at PCC have also been investigated under the same operating conditions. Effect of partial shading of SPV plates on the PQ is also investigated. Harmonic analysis is performed for all the investigated events. The proposed algorithm proved to be successful for detecting different PQ disturbances under all the investigated operating conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reliable electrical distribution system is the primary requirement of smart grid. Further, with the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources (RESs), reliability assessment is very vital. Various deterministic and probabilistic methods are utilized to assess the reliability of distribution system. This review study is about distribution system reliability assessment (DSRA) with and without renewable energy generation technologies such as micro grid, distributed generation, solar and wind. For that purpose, DSRA methods such as Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) and other DSRA methods are discussed. The distribution system reliability is considered by using the renewable energy generation techniques. The stochastic features of the parameters in the designing process defined the type of MCS simulation technique. These techniques are utilized to provide reliability assessment of compact system due to huge computational time associated with them. It can be restricted by restricting number of lumped equipments for a given renewable energy source. Further, numerous states can also be used to describe the arbitrariness in the renewable energy generation, because of the stochastic behavior of the resources and the mechanical degradation of the system.
