With the aggregation of renewable energy in the power system, the uncertainty caused by the renewable energy affects the planning and operation of power systems. Meanwhile, the existing planning models fail to consider renewable energy uncertainty methods, specifically concerning renewable energy confidence and future possible scenarios; thus, a confidence-based scenario cluster method is presented. A novel generator, network, load, and energy storage (GNLS) co-planning model is proposed in the paper. First, a confidence-based scenario cluster is built, which can reflect uncertainties by clustering and analyzing wind, solar, and load. Second, the proposed model focuses on load and energy storage co-planning, and in addition, relevant flexible indices are used to assess the model. Finally, the GNLS co-planning model is built as a bi-level stochastic model on continuous time scales. The model is solved using the Benders decomposition algorithm. The method in this paper is validated using an IEEE RTS 24-bus and a real test system in China to demonstrate the reduction in renewable energy curtailment and optimization of economic factors in power system planning. Technological innovation is the key to develop wind power and photovoltaic power industries. The feed-in tariff (FIT) policy, as a demand-pull policy, is important to support renewable energy technological innovation. Using the "difference-in-differences" method, this paper investigates the impact of FIT policy of wind power and the impact of the FIT policy designed according to differences in the distribution of resources on wind power technological innovation. The findings show that the FIT policy can drive patenting in wind power technologies during the implementation period, but may play a relatively weak promoting role in technological innovation in the latter term, and the FIT policy designed according to differences in the distribution of resources also stimulates more patent counts. Finally, based on the fixed effect negative binomial regression model, this paper finds that the higher feed-in tariffs can increase the patent counts in photovoltaic power technologies. How to effectively utilize renewable energy and improve the economic efficiency of microgrid system and its ability to consume renewable energy has become one of the main problems facing China at present. In response to this challenge, this paper establishes a multiobjective capacity optimization model with the minimum levelized cost of energy, the maximum proportion of renewable energy consumption, and the minimum comprehensive system cost. Based on this model, a new improved beluga whale optimization algorithm is proposed to solve the multiobjective optimization problem in the capacity allocation process of wind–solar–storage microgrid system with the goal of ensuring that the microgrid can meet the maximum load demand at different moments throughout the year. In this paper, opposition‐based learning, artificial bee colony, dynamic opposite, and beluga whale optimization are combined to improve the population diversity and convergence accuracy, thereby enhancing the optimization performance of the algorithm. Finally, after finding the optimal Pareto front solution, the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution is used to help decision‐makers select the optimal solution. Using real load data and meteorological data, the results of this paper show that the multiobjective capacity allocation optimization method of grid‐connected scenic storage microgrid system based on the improved beluga whale optimization algorithm can improve the economics of the wind–solar–storage microgrid system and promote the photovoltaic consumption simultaneously, providing a solution for the realization of low‐carbon power and regional economic development. Power systems with a high proportion of inverter-based sources like photovoltaics require a substantial short-circuit current ratio to ensure strong voltage support capabilities. However, this also increases the system's short-circuit current capacity and levels, which may potentially affect the safe operation of system equipment and current-carrying conductors. To evaluate the operational risks, this paper proposes a quantitative calculation model for the critical integration proportion of grid-connected inverter-interfaced power sources based on short-circuit current over-limit probability. Firstly, according to the verification criterion about short-circuit current during the selection of the switching equipment and conductors in the power system, the short-circuit current over-limit probability evaluation system with five indices is established. Secondly, considering the impact of the increased grid integration proportion of inverter-based power sources on short-circuit currents, an evaluation process for operational risk probabilities is proposed. Based on this, the critical access proportion for inverter-based power source integration in the power grid can be calculated. Finally, the proposed model is used to assess the operational risk probability for a 220 kV system which includes a high proportion of inverter-based power sources in the Anhui area, China. Through the analysis of cumulative probability distribution curves, the critical grid integration proportion interval for the transition from normal to high proportion stages of inverter-based power sources is determined. This paper investigates the evolving landscape of blockchain technology in renewable energy. The study, based on a Scopus database search on 21 February 2024, reveals a growing trend in scholarly output, predominantly in engineering, energy, and computer science. The diverse range of source types and global contributions, led by China, reflects the interdisciplinary nature of this field. This comprehensive review delves into 33 research papers, examining the integration of blockchain in renewable energy systems, encompassing decentralized power dispatching, certificate trading, alternative energy selection, and management in applications like intelligent transportation systems and microgrids. The papers employ theoretical concepts such as decentralized power dispatching models and permissioned blockchains, utilizing methodologies involving advanced algorithms, consensus mechanisms, and smart contracts to enhance efficiency, security, and transparency. The findings suggest that blockchain integration can reduce costs, increase renewable source utilization, and optimize energy management. Despite these advantages, challenges including uncertainties, privacy concerns, scalability issues, and energy consumption are identified, alongside legal and regulatory compliance and market acceptance hurdles. Overcoming resistance to change and building trust in blockchain-based systems are crucial for successful adoption, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts among industry stakeholders, regulators, and technology developers to unlock the full potential of blockchains in renewable energy integration. With the increasing penetration of renewable energy resources, their variable, intermittent and unpredictable characteristics bring new challenges to the power system. These challenges require micro-meteorological data and techniques to provide more support for the power systems, including planning, dispatching, operation, and so on. This paper aims to provide readers with insights into the effects of micro-meteorology on power systems, as well as the actual improvement brought by micro-meteorology in some power system scenarios. This paper provides a review including the relevant micro-meteorological techniques such as observation, assimilation and numerical techniques, as well as artificial intelligence, presenting a relatively complete overview of the most recent and relevant micro-meteorology-related literature associated with power systems. The impact of micro-meteorology on power systems is analyzed in six different forms of power generation and three typical scenarios of different stages in the power system, as well as integrated energy systems and disaster prevention and reduction. Finally, a case study in China is provided. This case takes wind power prediction as an example in a power system to compare the performance when applying micro-meteorological data or not. The experimental results demonstrated that using the micro-meteorological reanalysis dataset with high spatial--temporal resolution for wind power prediction performed better, verifying the improvement of micro-meteorology to the power system to some extent. Wind power generation is a renewable energy source, and its power output is influenced by multiple factors such as wind speed, direction, meteorological conditions, and the characteristics of wind turbines. Therefore, accurately predicting wind power is crucial for the grid operation and maintenance management of wind power plants. This paper proposes a hybrid model to improve the accuracy of wind power prediction. Accurate wind power forecasting is critical for the safe operation of power systems. To improve the accuracy of wind power prediction, this paper proposes a hybrid model incorporating variational modal decomposition (VMD), a Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), and a temporal-convolutional-network-based bi-directional gated recurrent unit (TCN-BiGRU). The model first uses VMD to break down the raw power data into several modal components, and then it builds an SSA-TCN-BIGRU model for each component for prediction, and finally, it accumulates all the predicted components to obtain the wind power prediction results. The proposed short-term wind power prediction model was validated using measured data from a wind farm in China. The proposed VMD-SSA-TCN-BiGRU forecasting framework is compared with benchmark models to verify its practicability and reliability. Compared with the TCN-BiGRU, the symmetric mean absolute percentage error, the mean absolute error, and the root mean square error of the VMD-SSA-TCN-BiGRU model reduced by 34.36%, 49.14%, and 55.94%. Purpose: With a growing demand for safe, clean and affordable energy, emerging economies (EEs) across the globe are now seeking to create and rapidly develop renewable energy (RE) businesses. The success of these businesses often hinges on their ability to translate RE into sustainable value for energy consumers and the multiple stakeholders in this industry. Such value includes low production costs due to an abundance of natural resources (e.g. wind, water and sunlight) and public health benefits from reduced environmental pollution. With that in mind, this paper aims to gauge RE's potential for sustainable value creation and then develop an effective RE business strategy. Design/methodology/approach: This paper develops a structural equation model, conducts an exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analyses with and without common latent factors and proposes a moderated mediation analysis to identify a host of factors that influence the success of RE businesses. Findings: This paper discovers that RE business performance is significantly affected by integrated vision, intellectual capital and social capital. In the case of China, there is a need of green energy system to boost growth and environment. However, the current growth of urbanization is putting high pressure on energy system through financial capital. Hence, it is a need to develop such path through renewable energy consumption, capital development, and urbanization to enhance the performance of development and environment. Therefore, this paper contributes to the literature by adding the asymmetries between renewable energy, urbanization, economic growth, and capital investment by covering the period from 1970 to 2021. For this purpose, we apply the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model to find the nonlinearities between the variables under study. The findings confirm the asymmetric short- and long-term relationships between the variables. In this sense, capitalization shows the short- and long-term asymmetric impacts on renewable energy consumption. In addition, urbanization and economic growth have long-term asymmetric and positive impacts on renewable energy consumption. Based on the background of carbon neutrality targets, panel data of 30 Chinese provinces during 2000–2019 were selected in this paper to explore the nonlinear correlation mechanism among transportation, tourism development, renewable and non-renewable energy consumption and economic growth. Firstly, by employing a fixed effects model as the base model, we confirmed the existence of correlations among these variables. And the nonlinear moderating effects were also verified by setting interaction terms in the model. Secondly, we further discussed the characteristics of the nonlinear relationship among the variables by employing a threshold effects model. Our results demonstrated that the effect of transportation on economic growth is positive and significant if and only if renewable energy consumption surpasses a certain threshold. Meanwhile, we also found that the effect of tourism development on economic growth is positive when non-renewable energy consumption is under a certain threshold. Finally, our study indicated that transportation maintains a positive and significant effect on economic growth within any threshold of tourism development, and the positive effect gradually increases as the threshold rises. The findings of this paper suggested that for China, the contribution of transportation and tourism to economic growth can be expanded by further expanding the substitution of renewable energy for non-renewable energy. The renewable energy+energy storage model has an important role to play in achieving China's proposal of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goal. In order to study the development mechanism of renewable energy+storage cooperation with government participation, this paper constructs a three-party evolutionary game model among government, renewable energy generators, and energy storage service suppliers, based on the data of a renewable energy+storage project in a Chinese province. In this paper, we analyze the game process and the factors affecting the behavioral strategies of the three parties through numerical simulation. The study shows that the government regulation has a positive effect on the cooperative development of renewable energy+energy storage, and it can effectively restrain the wasteful phenomenon of renewable energy generation by means of punishment and improve the operating income of cooperative projects by means of subsidies, which can help the enterprises to broaden the application scenarios of energy storage. The government can effectively promote the improvement of renewable energy+energy storage cooperation mechanism by formulating regulatory mechanism, controlling the cost of supervision, and dynamically adjusting the intensity of supervision. Therefore, the research in this paper not only enriches the research related to renewable energy+energy storage mode but also provides valuable reference for the government to formulate regulatory policies related to renewable energy+energy storage. • A simple, large-scale fabrication of cooling paper via pulping and papermaking technology. • The cooling paper is facilely deconstructed and regenerated to architect the secondary cooler. • The cooling paper features a high solar reflectance of 94% and emissivity of 0.95. • The cooling paper shows the sub-ambient temperature drop of 6 ∼ 8.8 °C under directly solar radiation at daytime. Passive radiative cooling materials provide coldness without energy consumption for all-day thermal comfort by reflecting solar irradiation and emitting heat into the 3 K universe. However, the conventional radiative cooling materials involve complex multilayer structures and unsustainable polymers, showing the non-recyclable disadvantage, which induces resource waste and environmental issues. Herein, we reported a low-cost, scalable, and eco-friendly radiative cooling material (namely cooling paper), consisting of the delignified, fibrillated cellulose fibers and nano-sized hydroxyapatite (HA) via the mature pulping and papermaking process. The resulting cooled paper can be recycled, and it can be easily deconstructed to harvest cellulose fibers and HA, individually. The recovered source materials can be reused to prepare secondary products that show comparable performance to the original cooling paper, including a high solar reflectance of ∼94% and an infrared emissivity of ∼0.95 in the atmospheric transparency window. Such cooling paper enables superior cooling performance with the temperature drop of 6 ∼ 8.8 °C under directly solar radiation. Based on the EnergyPlus simulation, our cooling paper shows a average cooling energy saving of ∼29 % in buildings across China. The recyclable cooling paper with high cooling capability and scalability, as well as environmental friendliness, shows promising potential for sustainable energy-efficient buildings. Currently, both regulated and deregulated power trading exist in China’s power system, which has caused imbalanced funds in the electricity market. In this paper, a simulation analysis of the electricity market with wind energy resources is conducted, and the calculation methods of unbalanced funds are investigated systematically. In detail, the calculation formulas of unbalanced funds are illustrated based on their definition, and a two-track electricity market clearing model is established. Firstly, the concept of the dual-track system is explained, and the specific calculation formulas of various types of unbalanced funds are provided. Next, considering the renewable energy consumption, the market clearing model based on DC power flow is constructed and solved; by combining fitting methods of mid- and long-term curves, the unbalanced funds are calculated based on clearing results and formulas. With the energy structure transition and the development of the green power market, the role of electricity retailers in multi-market green power trading has become more and more important. Particularly in China, where aggressive green energy policies and rapid market transformations provide a distinct context for such studies, the challenges are pronounced. Under demand-side response, electricity retailers face the uncertainty of users' electricity consumption and incentives, which complicates decision-making processes. The purpose of this paper is to explore the optimization decision-making problem of multi-market green power trading for electricity retailers under demand-side response, with a special focus on the Chinese market due to its leadership in implementing substantial green energy initiatives and its potential to set precedents for global practices. We first construct a two-party benefit optimization model, which comprehensively considers the profit objectives for electricity retailers and utility maximization for users. Then, the model is solved by the Lagrange multiplier method and distributed subgradient algorithm to obtain the optimal solution. Finally, the effectiveness of the incentive optimization strategy under the multi-market to promote green power consumption and improve the profit of electricity retailers is verified by arithmetic simulation. The results of this study show that the incentive optimization strategy under multi-market, particularly within the Chinese context, is expected to provide a reference for electricity retailers to develop more flexible and effective trading strategies in the green power market and to contribute to the process of promoting green power consumption globally. China's renewable energy products have an important place in international trade, and the conclusion of the RCEP agreement can create favourable external conditions for China's renewable energy product exports. This paper measures the export potential of China's renewable energy products to other RCEP countries through a trade gravity model. The results show that (1) the GDP of the importing and exporting countries, the energy consumption of the importing countries, and the particulate emissions damage significantly enhance China's renewable energy product exports; (2) among the RCEP countries, China has a greater potential to export renewable energy products to five countries in 2020, which are mainly located in East and Southeast Asia; and (3) from a dynamic perspective, China's renewable energy trade potential is increasing, while in the Oceania region it is weakening, while trade links to Southeast Asian countries are developing in a more mature direction. In recent years, excessive emissions of carbon dioxide have further intensified global warming, which poses a great threat to human society. The best way to reverse this situation is to take action to equalize the "carbon emissions" with the "carbon absorption," i.e., carbon neutrality (CN). To better understand the evolution and display a broad panorama of CN research, this paper provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of publications in the field of CN from 2006 to 2021. We use the Web of Science Core Collection as the data source, and a total of 633 publications have been retrieved. In the paper, we measure the productivity and influence of publications through recognized bibliometric metrics, and visually analyze publications using VOS Viewer and CiteSpace. The analysis results show that China is the most productive country/region. The study illustrates that in order to reach the goal of CN, it is necessary to reduce carbon emissions such as full using renewable energy. Simultaneously, it is also essential to enhance the "negative emissions" of carbon such as taking advantage of carbon sink and carbon capture, utilization, and storage. To cope with global climate change and energy security, the realization of the low-carbon energy transition has become an inevitable choice for international carbon emission reduction requirements and energy structure adjustment. Vigorously developing renewable energy has become an essential part of energy policies in many countries. Under the incentive and guidance of renewable energy industry policy, China's renewable energy has developed rapidly, and energy structure has been optimized. However, many problems have been exposed. Can China's renewable energy industry policy effectively support low-carbon energy transition? This paper uses the method of theoretical analysis, combining literature analysis and data analysis. Based on the analysis of renewable energy policies in countries with relatively mature energy transitions, it analyzes the status quo, implementation effect, and problems of renewable energy policy in China and proposes policy suggestions. According to the research, the existing problems are as follows: (1) diminishing marginal effect of policies, (2) policy adjustment is not timely and lacks details and operability, (3) coordination conflicts between the old and new policies, (4) unreasonable policy supply structure, and (5) the negative impact of subsidy policy is increasing. In power systems with high penetration of renewable energy, traditional physical model-based optimal dispatch methods suffer from modeling difficulties and poor adaptability, while data-driven dispatch methods, represented by reinforcement learning, have the advantage of fast decision making and reflecting long-term benefits. However, the performances of data-driven methods are much limited by the problem of distribution shift under insufficient power system scenario samples in the training. To address this issue, this paper proposes an improved scenario division method by integrating the power system's key physical features and the data-driven variational autoencoder (VAE)-generated features. Next, based on the scenario division results, a multi-scenario data-driven dispatch model is established. Energy transition is a major structural change in the whole social system, and the energy system must be changed globally to replace fossil fuels. Hydropower is one of the largest sources of renewable energy in the world. However, owing to the construction of hydropower projects, involuntary resettlers are suffering from being far away from their native land, losing the land cultivated for generations and the houses they live in, and losing the social relationship network based on geography and blood ties. Based on the system evaluation theory of reservoir resettlement and referring to relevant research findings, this paper constructs a comprehensive evaluation index framework for assessing the implementation effect of the Post-Relocation Support (PReS) policy. The research region is located in Zhijin County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, China. Accordingly, a combined method of a structural equation model and a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is used in this paper to analyze the implementation of the PReS policy. The results show that the total score of implementing effects of the PReS policy is 4.4, with dramatic significance. The subindex scores of the resettlers' family income, living conditions, and production conditions; the local economy; and social stability are 4.3, 4.6, 4.4, 4.6, and 4.3, respectively, with dramatic significance. This paper has analyzed and summarized the successful practices of implementing the PReS policy for reservoir resettlers in three dimensions: poverty alleviation, beautiful home construction, and accelerating rural revitalization. China will strive to achieve a 'dual carbon' target: 'carbon peak' by 2030 and 'carbon-neutral' by 2060. In this context, improving the efficiency of renewable energy and reducing the use of thermal power are important ways to achieve the target. Clean, efficient and large-capacity energy-storage technology is the key to improving the utilization rate of renewable energy. First, this paper proposes to use compressed-air energy-storage technology instead of the old energy-storage technology to build an economical and environmentally friendly comprehensive energy park capacity optimization configuration model. Second, this paper uses the newly proposed improved chicken swarm optimization algorithm to solve the model, which is more accurate and faster. Finally, this paper analyzes a comprehensive energy park in north-west China. Through case analysis, it can be seen that the average utilization rate of renewable energy can reach 73.87% through the model proposed in this paper, while the average power-abandonment rate is only 9.32%. As an emerging driving factor, the positive impact of renewable energy technology innovation (RETI) on inclusive low-carbon development (ILCD) may be undervalued or even neglected. This paper develops an evaluation system to measure China's ILCD by using provincial panel data from 2006 to 2020. Based on the combined perspective of spatial spillover effect and threshold effect, this paper examines the spatial spillover effects and the regional boundary of RETI on ILCD in different periods and further analyzes five heterogeneities. The results show that (1) RETI and ILCD are increasing steadily, presenting a spatial pattern of "high in the east and low in the west." (2) Overall, RETI significantly promotes ILCD in local and neighboring areas. RETI in the growth period inhibits local ILCD, which in the mature period promotes local and neighboring ILCD. (3) The spatial spillover boundary of the whole RETI is 1400 km, that of RETI in the growth period is 1000 km, and that of RETI in the mature period is 1600 km. (4) The promotion effect of RETI on ILCD enhances over time and shows a spatial pattern of "eastern > central > south > north > western." It is further found that RETI strongly promotes ILCD in non-resource-based, high marketization, and strong environmental regulation areas. Therefore, it is necessary to break down administrative and market barriers, strengthen inter-regional cooperation and interconnection of resource elements, and establish a dynamic management mechanism of "one province, one policy" according to the regional heterogeneity for providing decision-making reference in promoting global energy transition and climate governance. Our world needs to develop clean energy to reach the target of carbon peak and carbon neutralization. As one of clean energy, wind energy should contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction. Wind power generation is an important field of wind energy application. This paper proposes a prediction model of wind power, and predicts the wind power of two wind farms. For the complex wind speed series, the variational modal decomposition (VMD) method is used to reduce its volatility before prediction. And this paper presents an improved method to improve the prediction efficiency when least square support vector machine (LSSVM) predicts stationary series. The prediction result shows that the proposed model improves the prediction of wind power effectively, provides an effective method for wind farm to predict the wind power, and makes contributions to reducing carbon emissions and environmental protection. Green technology innovation meets the dual expectation of innovative development and green development perspectives. Under the canonical demand-pull and policy-push theories, a long-term mechanism for green technology innovation could be formed through upstream policy push and downstream demand-pull. Leveraging China's regional carbon emission trading scheme pilots as a quasi-natural experiment, this paper examines the policy-push and demand-pull effects on innovation in renewable energy patents. The data pertain to the city-level renewable energy patents from 2000 to 2020. Based upon the triple difference-in-difference method, results suggest that both policy-push and demand-pull factors exert positive effects on innovation. Bearing in mind European Green Deal assumptions regarding a significant reduction of green house emissions, electricity generation from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is more and more important nowadays. Besides this, accurate and reliable electricity generation forecasts from RES are needed for capacity planning, scheduling, managing inertia and frequency response during contingency events. The recent three years have proved that Machine Learning (ML) models are a promising solution for forecasting electricity generation from RES. In this review, the 8-step methodology was used to find and analyze 262 relevant research articles from the Scopus database. Statistic analysis based on eight criteria (ML method used, renewable energy source involved, affiliation location, hybrid model proposed, short term prediction, author name, number of citations, and journal title) was shown. The results indicate that (1) Extreme Learning Machine and ensemble methods were the most popular methods used for electricity generation forecasting from RES in the last three years (2020–2022), (2) most of the research was carried out for wind systems, (3) the hybrid models accounted for about a third of the analyzed works, (4) most of the articles concerned short-term models, (5) the most researchers came from China, (6) and the journal which published the most papers in the analyzed field was Energies. The development of renewable energy in China has made remarkable achievements, but the problem of renewable energy consumption has become increasingly prominent. This paper establishes a power market trading system for renewable energy, with the aim of promoting large-scale renewable energy consumption and increasing the enthusiasm of renewable energy producers and users to participate in market transactions. First, according to the power generation cost, the backup cost of renewable energy power plants and the possible quotation strategies of other renewable energy producers, a quotation model of renewable energy producers is established. In the clearing of the spot market by renewable energy producers, the independent market operator conducts the first-stage clearing of the electricity market with the goal of maximizing social welfare. After the announcement of the clearing results, the renewable energy producers that did not win the bid will revise their quotations and carry out the second stage clearing to realize the consumption of renewable energy. In this paper, the particle swarm algorithm combined with the CPLEX solver is used to solve the problem, and finally, different scenarios are analyzed through example analysis. The results show that, compared with the conventional power market trading mechanism, the energy abandonment rate of the power market trading mechanism for renewable energy proposed in this paper drops from 8.2% to 2.1%, and the profit margin of renewable energy producers increase by 6.6%. South Africa possesses extremely rich renewable energy resources, including solar energy and wind energy, in spite of this, South Africa traditionally relies on coal as its primary energy source. Recently, South Africa confronted with severe electricity shortage. With pressure of power shortage and the transition to low- carbon energy, South Africa has been actively promoting the development of renewable energy, aiming to diversify its energy structure. China, as the world's leading country in the development and utilization of renewable energy, has long been committed to helping South Africa achieve renewable energy development. This article reviews the cooperation progress between China and South Africa in renewable energy, and provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges currently faced by both sides. To address such challenges, it is suggested to strengthen the design of top-level cooperation mechanisms, create diverse collaboration platforms, prioritize the exchange and collaboration of scientific talents. The economic operation of hydropower stations has the potential to increase water use efficiency. However, there are some challenges, such as the fixed and unchangeable flow characteristic curve of the hydraulic turbines, and the large number of variables in optimal load distribution, which limit the progress of research. In this paper, we propose a new optimal method of the economic operation of hydropower stations based on improved Long Short-Term Memory neural network (I-LSTM) and Random Forest (RF) algorithm. Firstly, in order to accurately estimate the water consumption, the LSTM model's hyperparameters are optimized using improved particle swarm optimization, and the I-LSTM method is proposed to fit the flow characteristic curve of the hydraulic turbines. Secondly, the Random Forest machine learning algorithm is introduced to establish a load-distribution model with its powerful feature extraction and learning ability. To improve the accuracy of the load-distribution model, we use the K-means algorithm to cluster the historical data and optimize the parameters of the Random Forest model. A Hydropower Station in China is selected for a case study. It is shown that (1) the I-LSTM method fits the operating characteristics under various working conditions and actual operating characteristics of hydraulic turbines, ensuring that they are closest to the actual operating state; (2) the I-LSTM method is compared with Support Vector Machine (SVM), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Long Short-Term Memory neural network (LSTM). The prediction results of SVM have a large error, but compared with ELM and LSTM, MSE is reduced by about 46% and 38% respectively. MAE is reduced by about 25% and 21%, respectively. RMSE is reduced by about 27% and 24%, respectively; (3) the RF algorithm performs better than the traditional dynamic programming algorithm in load distribution. With the passage of time and the increase in training samples, the prediction accuracy of the Random Forest model has steadily improved, which helps to achieve optimal operation of the units, reducing their average total water consumption by 1.24%. This study provides strong support for the application of intelligent low-consumption optimization strategies in hydropower fields, which can bring higher economic benefits and resource savings to renewable energy production. With a significant share of renewable power generation integrated into the power supply, it is crucial to timely adjust the regulating peak load for coal-fired power plants equipped with CO2 capture to ensure the stable operation of the multi-energy supply system. In this paper, the effects of varying boiler loads on the techno-economic performance of the retrofitted power plant were studied. Furthermore, the potential for reducing the cost of CO2 capture was investigated, and early opportunities for demonstration were discussed. Results showed that when the boiler load decreased from 100% turbine heat acceptance condition to 50% turbine heat acceptance condition, the cost of CO2 capture increased from 37.0 $/t CO2 to 57.0 $/t CO2, cost contribution of energy penalty and extra capital investment also increased from 20.6 $/t-CO2 to 25.7 $/t-CO2, and from 16.4 $/t-CO2 to 31.3 $/t-CO2, respectively. Furthermore, by improving separation efficiency from 0.15 to 0.5, a 25% to 30% reduction in CO2 capture cost can be achieved. The cost of CO2 capture could decrease by 42.2–50.5% when the cumulative capacity reaches 250 GW under the high investment learning rate scenario. According to the distribution of coal prices and renewable energy sources in China, the early demonstration projects of multi-energy supply systems should prioritize the northern region. With large-scale grid-connected renewable energy, new power systems require more flexible and reliable energy storage power sources. Pumped storage stations play an important role in peak shaving, valley filling, and promoting renewable energy consumption. This paper presents the reasonable energy-abandonment operation of a combined power generation system (CPGS), in which a pumped storage station is the core control power, with an ultra-high proportion of renewable energy. Firstly, based on the seasonal characteristics of wind, solar, and load demand, typical days are selected through improved clustering analysis algorithms. Then, a daily optimal scheduling model for combined power generation systems (CPGS) is developed with the goals of economy, low-carbon, and stable operation. Finally, the correlation between the energy-abandonment rate and pumped storage station peak shaving and system optimization operation indicators is obtained by a reasonable energy-abandonment calculation method considering source-grid-load coordination. Taking the operation data of an energy base in the western region of China as an example, when the penetration rate of renewable energy is 60–70% in the future, the operating cost on the power side is greatly affected by the construction of the source side. As the adoption of renewable energy sources grows, ensuring a stable power balance across various time frames has become a central challenge for modern power systems. In line with the "dual carbon" objectives and the seamless integration of renewable energy sources, harnessing the advantages of various energy storage resources and coordinating the operation of long-term and short-term storage have become pivotal directions for future energy storage deployment. To address the complexities arising from the coupling of different time scales in optimizing energy storage capacity, this paper proposes a method for energy storage planning that accounts for power imbalance risks across multiple time scales. Initially, the Seasonal and Trend decomposition using the Loess (STL) decomposition method is utilized to temporally decouple actual operational data. Subsequently, power balance computations are performed based on the obtained data at various time scales to optimize the allocation of different types of energy storage capacities and assess the associated imbalance risks. This study presents a bibliometric review focusing on the utilization of water electrolysis as a means of generating hydrogen as an energy carrier. The analysis includes research conducted over the past decade, covering from 2014 to 2023 (till August). Several key aspects are highlighted, including publication trends, the leading country in research output, journal rankings, and a citation analysis of papers related to water electrolysis. The findings reveal a notable increase in publication trends, with China emerging as the leading contributor in this research area. Furthermore, the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy is identified as the highest-ranked journal in terms of both publication number and citation impact. Additionally, the top ten most cited research articles and review papers are investigated to determine their influence within the field. To gain a deeper understanding of water electrolysis methods, the three primary approaches: alkaline water electrolysis (AWE), proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis, and solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) is examined. The analysis emphasizes that PEM electrolysis is the most prevalent method for hydrogen generation, particularly when integrated with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power due to its rapid response to electrical input fluctuation. The demand for the power grid system's capacity to undergo peak-shaving is increasing as the proportion of renewable energy rises. In China, nuclear power units usually only provide a base load operation in the view of safety and economic considerations, but they do not provide load adjustment services, which undoubtedly increases the pressure of grid load adjustment. In this paper, a novel flexibility load adjustment strategy of the CHP nuclear unit is studied, which is achieved by introducing the thermal storage tank (TST) into the Rankine cycle without changing the output of the nuclear reactor. The AP1000 pressurized water reactor nuclear power unit for combined heat and power is taken as an example, and the thermodynamic model is established through the water vapor equation. Furthermore, the reference system is simulated for the goal of minimizing the imbalance between power supply and demand, and the flexibility–environment–economy benefits are evaluated. The results show that the heat storage/release of the TST may achieve power output flexible adjustment of the nuclear unit, and the power imbalance of the reference energy system is reduced from 1107.99 MWh to 457.24 MWh, a reduction of 58.73%. The introduction of a 600 MWh TST can enable the reference unit to contribute 335 MWh of peak electricity within the reference day. From the perspective of replacing the power generation output increment of coal-fired power units with equal amounts, it can achieve a reduction of 106.09 tons of coal consumption in the case day, which means that 277.73 tons of CO2 emissions can be reduced. Power systems face adequacy risks because of the high integration of renewable energy. It is urgent to develop efficient methods for power system operational reliability assessment. Conventional power system reliability assessment methods cannot achieve real-time assessment of system risk because of the high computational complexity and long calculation time. The high computational complexity is mainly caused by a large number of optimal power flow (OPF) calculations. To reduce the computational complexity, this paper transfers the optimal power flow model as a multiparameter linear programming model. Then, the optimal power flow can be obtained by linear calculations. Furthermore, this paper proposes a state reduction method considering the importance index of transmission lines for further improving the calculation efficiency. Case studies are carried out on IEEE standard systems and a provincial power grid in China. Compared with the conventional reliability assessment method, the reliability assessment efficiency of the proposed method increases by 10–40 times, and the assessment error is less than 1%. Background: Saudi Arabia (KSA) is a global leader in producing fossil fuels and has primarily relied on this energy source for its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, after the 2014 oil crash, the country established Vision 2030, intending to shift toward a non-oil dependent economy. Through this vision, Saudi Arabia aims to increase generation of electricity from clean energy sources by 30%. This paper examines the effectiveness of strict intellectual property (IP) regulations aiming to develop the renewable energy (RE) sector. Methods: In this paper, the author examines the effectiveness of strict intellectual property rights in-depth to develop innovation in the renewable energy sector as mentioned in Saudi Arabia's 2030 Vision. The paper makes a comparison with countries, such as the EU and China, regarding the extent to which strict intellectual rights have improved innovation. The author uses an inductive research approach that relies on qualitative data since it critically analyses regulations and policies in many countries, such as Saudi Arabia, the EU, and China. Results and conclusions: The author finds that financial incentives are more effective than in developing innovation in the renewable energy sector. Most importantly, developing countries benefit from financial incentives to increase innovation since many developed countries have adopted a strict IP law after their markets developed. Severe disturbances in a power network can cause the system frequency to exceed the safe operating range. As the last defensive line for system emergency control, under frequency load shedding (UFLS) is an important method for preventing a wide range of frequency excursions. This paper proposes a hierarchical UFLS scheme of "centralized real-time decision-making and decentralized real-time control" for inter-connected systems. The centralized decision-layer of the scheme takes into account the importance of the load based on the equivalent transformation of kinetic energy (KE) and potential energy (PE) in the transient energy function (TEF), while the load PE is used to determine the load shedding amount (LSA) allocation in different loads after faults in real-time. At the same time, the influence of inertia loss is considered in the calculation of unbalanced power, and the decentralized control center is used to implement the one-stage UFLS process to compensate for the unbalanced power. Simulations are carried out on the modified New England 10-generator 39-bus system and 197-bus system in China to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show that, compared with other LSA allocation indicators, the proposed allocation indicators can achieve better fnadir and td. At the same time, compared with other multi-stage UFLS schemes, the proposed scheme can obtain the maximum fnadir with a smaller LSA in scenarios with high renewable energy sources (RES) penetration. With China's vigorous implementation of the two-carbon policy. the automotive industry is transitioning from traditional to alternative energy sources. Accurate forecasting of new energy vehicle sales can provide statistical support for policy planning. This paper proposed a grey Lotka-Volterra model based on an HP filter to forecast new energ vehicle sales trends. The proposed model overcomes the limitations of the original model in forecasting cyclical data and improves its applicability in small sample data systems. And the competitive forecasting model allows us lo explore the market competition or cooperation between various vehicle types. Compared to the two existing models, the new model perfbrms better in forecasting vehicle sales. The study further applies the LCA method to assess the scale of energy consuniption and GHG emissions in the automotive sector. The prediction and evaluation results show that new energy vehicle sales will surpass traditional fuel vehicles by 2035 and dominate the vehicle market before 2050. Unfurtunately, vehicle electrification has not significantly reduced the transportation industry's environmental concerns. The large-scale centralized development of wind and PV power resources is the key to China's dual carbon targets and clean energy transition. The vast desert–Gobi–wilderness areas in northern and western China will be the best choice for renewable energy development under multiple considerations of resources endowment, land use constraints, technical conditions, and economic level. It is urgent to carry out a quantitative wind and PV resource assessment study in desert–Gobi–wilderness areas. This paper proposed a multi-dimensional assessment method considering the influence of the power grid and transportation infrastructure distributions, which includes three research levels, namely, the technical installed capacity, the development potential, and the development cost. Nine main desert–Gobi–wilderness areas were assessed. The wind and PV technical installed capacities were 0.6 TW and 10.7 TW, and the total development potentials were over 0.12 TW and 1.2 TW, with the full load hours of 2513 and 1759 and the average development costs of 0.28 CNY/kWh and 0.20 CNY/kWh. Finally, this paper proposed the meteorological–electrical division distribution. A case study in the Kubuqi and Qaidam Deserts was carried out on wind–wind and wind–PV collaborative development across different meteorological–electrical divisions, which can reduce by 58% the long-term energy storage capacity and decrease the total system LCOE from 0.488 CNY/kWh to 0.445 CNY/kWh. With the increasing severity of climate change, the power industry, as one of the main sources of carbon emissions, is playing an extremely important role in the process of low-carbon energy transformation. The purpose of this paper is to try to find a general method to solve the optimal path for the low-carbon evolution of the power supply structure so as to meet the challenges faced by the low-carbon transformation of the power industry in the future. This paper first uses the capacity coefficient index (CCI) to represent the power generation ability of different technologies and proposes a forecasting method for the CCI of renewable energy generation. In this paper, a two-layer optimization model considering multiple constraints is established and solved using the MPC method. The results show that China's installed capacity of renewable power could account for more than 50% in 2030, while the carbon emissions will decrease after reaching a peak in 2023. On the premise of ensuring sufficient reserve adjustment capacity of thermal power units, increasing the proportion of renewable energy generation is an important way to realize emission reduction in the power industry. From a spatial perspective, this paper constructs a spatial Durbin model based on the adjacent weight matrix to analyze the impact of environmental regulation on the development of renewable energy in 30 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) in China from 2007 to 2020. The results show that (1) both environmental regulation and renewable energy development have positive spatial autocorrelation and form relatively similar spatial agglomeration areas, specifically showing the characteristics of "high-high" agglomeration in resource-rich areas and "low-low" agglomeration in resource-scarce areas. (2) Environmental regulation significantly promotes the development of local renewable energy and has a significant spatial spillover effect on the development of renewable energy in neighboring provinces. (3) The moderating effect results show that renewable energy installed capacity and electricity demand play an inverse moderating role between environmental regulation and renewable energy development. (4) From the perspective of different regions, the impact of environmental regulation on the development of renewable energy is heterogeneous. With the large-scale development and grid connection of renewable energy, hydropower faces more intense and frequent peak shaving and frequency regulation, giving rise to water level fluctuations and frequently forced sluice adjustments at hydropower stations. This paper proposes a model that combines "offline calculation" and "online search". First, feasible sluice opening combinations for different water levels at each hydropower station are calculated offline, and a sluice operation strategy table is constructed. Subsequently, an optimal sluice operation strategy is searched online according to the real-time water level and various regulatory requirements. As an example, we select three hydropower stations in the middle reach of the Dadu River in China, namely, Pubugou, Shenxigou, and Zhentouba. The results show that the total number of adjustments of the sluices of the cascade hydropower stations was reduced from 1195 to 675, a reduction of 43.5%, and the leading hydropower station, Pubugou, met water level control requirements, whereas the fluctuations in the water level of the two downstream daily regulating hydropower stations, Shenxigou and Zhentouba, were reduced by 1.38 m and 0.55 m, respectively. The construction and development of energy storage are crucial areas in the reform of China's power system. However, one of the key issues hindering energy storage investments is the ambiguity of revenue sources and the inaccurate estimation of returns. In order to facilitate investors' understanding of revenue sources and returns on investment of energy storage in the existing electricity market, this study has established multiple relevant revenue quantification models. The research methodology employed in this paper consists of three main components: Firstly, we established a revenue model and a cost model for energy storage participation in the electricity market. These models focus on arbitrage revenue, subsidy revenue, auxiliary services revenue, investment cost, operational and maintenance cost, and auxiliary service cost of energy storage. Subsequently, we utilized an enhanced Grey Wolf Optimizer algorithm to solve the optimization problem and maximize revenue, thus obtaining the optimal capacity and revenue scale of energy storage in the electricity market. Finally, we compared the whole-lifecycle ROI of different energy storage options in various scenarios. The evaluation results demonstrate that the difference between peak and off-peak loads impacts the investment demand and charging/discharging depth of energy storage. In addition, the discrepancy between peak and off-peak prices affects the arbitrage return of energy storage. These two factors can serve as criteria for energy storage investors to assess their return expectations. When solely considering economic returns and disregarding technical factors, pumped storage energy storage emerges as the most suitable mechanical energy storage option requiring investment. The main contribution of this study lies in the estimation of the lifecycle investment returns for various energy storage technologies in the Chinese electricity market, thus providing valuable insights for the investment and operational practices of market participants. Renewable hydrogen energy has received growing attention due to the energy shortage and increasing CO2 emissions. With these issues in mind, renewable hydrogen has become an important component of future energy systems in many countries, especially in the transportation sector. However, the shortage of hydrogenation station and the risks associated with their construction have become an urgent issue for the development of hydrogen energy transportation. To better implement the hydrogenation station project, a risk management framework is proposed for risk control. First, a comprehensive risk index system is developed, using a weighting method based on the G1 method and the C-OWA operator. Second, a grey fuzzy synthetic assessment method is applied to evaluate the risk based on the 3D risk assessment framework. Finally, risk is assigned to different participants and actionable measures are proposed. This paper summarizes the obstacles to the development of hydrogen energy transportation, highlights the potential of hydrogen energy development, and suggests workable solutions for the use of hydrogen energy in the future transportation industry. Solar hydrogen production technology is a key technology for building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system. At present, the intermittency and volatility of renewable energy have caused a lot of "wind and light". By combining renewable energy with electrolytic water technology to produce high-purity hydrogen and oxygen, which can be converted into electricity, the utilization rate of renewable energy can be effectively improved, while helping to improve the solar hydrogen production system. This paper summarizes and analyzes the research status and development direction of solar hydrogen production technology from three aspects. Energy supply mode: the role of solar PV systems and PT systems in this technology is analyzed. System control: the key technology and system structure of different types of electrolytic cells are introduced in detail. System economy: the economy and improvement measures of electrolytic cells are analyzed from the perspectives of cost, consumption, efficiency, and durability. Finally, the development prospects of solar hydrogen production systems in China are summarized and anticipated. In order to solve the problem of randomness and volatility caused by the rapid growth of renewable energy (RE), energy storage systems (ESSs)—as an important means of regulation—can effectively improve the flexible regulation capacity of power systems utilizing a high proportion of RE. Most of the current ESS capacity configuration procedures are carried out based on the typical scenario method or time series production simulation. This method tends to determine the size of the ESS configuration through multiple trial simulations. Uncertainty of simulation prediction data can result in the existence of an excess capacity or lack of configured capacity. In addition, this method reflects the ESS demand under specific targets, but it fails to fully utilize RE generation characteristics. The configuration process lacks the mathematical mechanism of RE consumption, and the calculation process is too complicated. In view of the shortcomings of traditional ESS optimal configuration methods, this paper examines the mathematical mechanism of RE consumption and proposes the ESS optimal configuration analysis method based on "equal area criterion". First, the principle of RE consumption is analyzed and the "RE consumption characteristic curve" is proposed according to RE characteristics. In addition, a working principle diagram of RE consumption, including ESS, is constructed to visually show the consumption capacity of RE and the working position of ESS. Then, the ESS optimal configuration process, based on the "equal area criterion", is proposed to achieve an accurate match between ESS capacity demand and RE consumption targets. Finally, the power grid of a region in China is taken as an example. We prove that the proposed method can save 1.41 × 103 MWh of ESS capacity and provide a more "mathematical" and "convenient" systematic solution for RE consumption and ESS optimization compared to the production simulation method. Energy forecasting is crucial in scheduling and planning future electric load, so as to improve the reliability and safeness of the power grid. Despite recent developments of forecasting algorithms in the machine learning community, there is a lack of general and advanced algorithms specifically considering requirements from the power industry perspective. In this paper, we present eForecaster, a unified AI platform including robust, flexible, and explainable machine learning algorithms for diversified energy forecasting applications. Since October 2021, multiple commercial bus load, system load, and renewable energy forecasting systems built upon eForecaster have been deployed in seven provinces of China. The deployed systems consistently reduce the average Mean Absolute Error (MAE) by 39.8% to 77.0%, with reduced manual work and explainable guidance. In particular, eForecaster also integrates multiple interpretation methods to uncover the working mechanism of the predictive models, which significantly improves forecasts adoption and user satisfaction. Renewable energy is the fastest growing energy source. China, the world's biggest energy consumer, is also the largest investor in renewable energy. Although it is expected that oil will continue to dominate the energy mix in China and in the world by 2040, a transition towards a renewable model in the energy sector is unfolding, which has also been acknowledged by international oil companies (IOCs). Then, how the Chinese national oil companies (NOCs) approach such a transition becomes important – to what extent their investment transform and what are the pressures and influences behind the transformation. This paper investigates the positions and decisions taken by the Chinese NOCs, through comparing the similarities and differences between these NOCs and IOCs. A neo-Gramscian theoretical framework that considers environmental governance through dynamics at material, organisational, and discursive levels is used to examine the Chinese NOCs' energy transition. We find that the Chinese NOCs' energy transition is determined by: materially, economic profits; organisationally, the administrative environmental governance structure that copes with the market competition against IOCs and other state-owned companies; and discursively, the political concept of ecological civilisation. The purpose of this paper is to determine the spatial spillover effects of renewable energy on carbon emissions in China's less-developed areas. However, few studies have considered this issue from the perspective of less-developed areas. Based on panel data of 21 provinces in China from 2000 to 2017, this paper analyzes the spatial spillover effects of renewable energy on carbon emissions using Moran's I and Spatial Durbin Model (SDM). The results suggest that, first, Moran's I ranges from 0.378 to 0.519, Moran scatter plot presents that provinces are located in the high–high (HH) and low-low (LL) quadrants, indicating provincial carbon emissions in the study area have a significant spatial correlation and agglomeration. Second, under the three matrices, the direct effect coefficients of renewable energy are -0.2522, -0.2639 and -0.2601, this shows that renewable energy is beneficial to local carbon emissions reduction. In contrast, the indirect effect coefficients of renewable energy are 0.0605, 0.1012 and 0.1125, which means higher renewable energy consumption in a single area is conducive to the improvement of carbon emissions to neighbouring areas. Third, urbanization, industrialization, physical capital and other variables have different impacts on local and nearby carbon emissions. The intermittent access of renewable energy sources leads to a significant increase in fault short‐circuit currents in power grid. DC superconducting fault current limiters (SFCL) can limit short‐circuit currents in flexible DC transmission systems, which work in combination with direct current circuit breaker (DCCBs) to protect the grid system effectively. However, for the parameter design of DC superconducting fault current limiter (DCSFCL), it is difficult to balance the economics of the device and its adaptability to different fault situations. In this paper, a cross‐mapping design methodology for the DCSFCL is proposed and applied in the Nan'ao flexible DC transmission project, China. A cross‐mapping method is designed combining the critical parameters of DCSFCL and the system parameters. A three‐terminal simulation model of the flexible DC transmission system is constructed through MATLAB/Simulink and the design process of DCSFCL parameters is introduced. A cyclic calculation approach is proposed for the design of DCSFCL parameters through three fault conditions of the power system. Meanwhile, impact current short‐circuits test and artificial ground short‐circuit test were conducted on the prototype. Test results show that the designed DCSFCL meets the requirements of practical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
