Abstract: We present a search for new physics in events with two high pT leptons of the same electric charge, using data with an integrated luminosity of 6.1 fb(-1). The observed data are consistent with standard model predictions. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on the mass of doubly charged scalars decaying to like-sign dileptons, m(H±±) > 190-245 GeV/c(2), assuming 100% BR to ee, μμ or eμ.

2. Bosonization, mass generation, and the pseudo Chern-Simons action

Abstract: We discuss several aspects of a generalization of the Chern-Simons action containing the pseudodifferential operator −□, which we shall call pseudo-Chern-Simons (PCS). First, we derive the PCS from the bosonization of free massive Dirac particles in (2+1)D in the limit when m2≪p2, where m is the fermion mass and p is its momentum. In this regime, the whole bosonized action also has a modified Maxwell term, involving the same pseudodifferential operator. Furthermore, the large-mass m2≫p2 regime is also considered. We also investigate the main effects of the PCS term into the pseudo-quantum electrodynamics (PQED), which describes the electromagnetic interactions between charged particles in (2+1)D. We show that the massless gauge field of PQED becomes massive in the presence of a PCS term, without the need of a Higgs mechanism. In the nonrelativistic limit, we show that the static potential has a repulsive term (given by the Coulomb potential) and an attractive part (given by a sum of special functions), whose competition generates bound states of particles with the same charge. Having in mind two-dimensional materials, we also conclude that the presence of a PCS term does not affect the renormalization either of the Fermi velocity or of the band gap in a Dirac-like material.

Abstract: Starting from a recently proposed comprehensive theory for the high-Tc superconductivity in cuprates, we derive a general analytic expression for the planar resistivity, in the presence of an applied external magnetic field $\textbf{H}$ and explore its consequences in the different phases of these materials. As an initial probe of our result, we show it compares very well with experimental data for the resistivity of LSCO at different values of the applied field. We also apply our result to Bi2201 and show that the magnetoresistivity in the strange metal phase of this material, exhibits the $H^2$ to $H$ crossover, as we move from the weak to the strong field regime. Yet, despite of that, the magnetoresistivity does not present a quadrature scaling. Remarkably, the resistivity H-field derivative does scale as a function of $\frac{H}{T}$, in complete agreement with recent magneto-transport measurements made in the strange metal phase of cuprates \cite{Hussey2020}. We, finally, address the issue of the $T$-power-law dependence of the resistivity of overdoped cuprates and compare our results with experimental data for Tl2201. We show that this provides a simple method to determine whether the quantum critical point associated to the pseudogap temperature $T^*(x)$ belongs to the SC dome or not., 11 pages. 4. Competing effective interactions of Dirac electrons in the Spin-Fermion system

Abstract: Recently discovered advanced materials, such as heavy fermions, frequently exhibit a rich phase diagram suggesting the presence of different competing interactions. A unified description of the origin of these multiple interactions, albeit very important for the comprehension of such materials is, in general not available. It would be therefore very useful to have a simple model where the common source of different interactions could be possibly traced back. In this work we consider a system consisting in a set of localized spins on a square lattice with antiferromagnetic nearest neighbors interactions and itinerant electrons, which are assumed to be Dirac-like and interact with the localized spins through a Kondo magnetic interaction. This system is conveniently described by the Spin-Fermion model, which we use in order to determine the effective interactions among the itinerant electrons. By integrating out the localized degrees of freedom we obtain a set of different interactions, which includes: a BCS-like superconducting term, a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio-like, excitonic term and a spin-spin magnetic term. The resulting phase diagram is investigated by evaluation of the mean-field free-energy as a function of the relevant order parameters. 5. Renormalization of the band gap in 2D materials through the competition between electromagnetic and four-fermion interactions in largeNexpansion

Abstract: Recently the renormalization of the band gap m, in both tungsten diselenide (WSe2) and molybdenumm disulfide (MoS2), has been experimentally measured as a function of the carrier concentration n. The main result establishes a decreasing of hundreds of meV, in comparison with the bare band gap, as the carrier concentration increases. These materials are known as transition metal dichalcogenides and their low-energy excitations are, approximately, described by the massive Dirac equation. Using pseudo–quantum electrodynamics (PQED) to describe the electromagnetic interaction between these quasiparticles and from renormalization group analysis at the large-N limit, we obtain that the renormalized mass describes the band gap renormalization with a function given by m(n)/m0=(n/n0)Cλ/2, where m0=m(n0) and Cλ is a function of the coupling constant λ=πα/4, where α is the fine-structure constant. We compare our theoretical results with the experimental findings for WSe2 and MoS2, and we conclude that our approach is in agreement with these experimental results for reasonable values of λ. Thereafter, we consider the coupling of massless Dirac particles with the Gross-Neveu interaction, which generates a mass for the Dirac field through the gap equation, and PQED. In this case, we show that there exists a critical coupling constant, namely, λc≈0, 66 in which the beta function of the mass vanishes, providing a stable fixed point in the ultraviolet limit. For λ>λc, the renormalized mass decreases while for λ<λc it increases with the carrier concentration.

Abstract: We study the effects of an external magnetic field on thensuperconducting phase diagram of a quasi-two-dimensional system of Dirac electrons at an arbitrary temperature. At zero temperature, there is a quantum phase transition connecting a normal and a superconducting phase, occurring at a critical line that corresponds to a magnetic field dependent critical coupling parameter, which should be observed in planar materials containing Dirac electrons, such as $Cu_xTiSe_2$. Moreover, the superconducting gap is obtained as a function of temperature, magnetic field and coupling parameter ($\lambda_{\rm R}$). From this, we extract the critical magnetic field $ B_{ c } $ as a function of the temperature. For small values of $ B_{ c } $, we obtain a linear decay of the critical field, which is similar to the behavior observed experimentally in the copper doped dichalcogenide $Cu_xTiSe_2$ and also in intercalated graphite., Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:cond-mat/0703184

Abstract: We use the spin-fermion model to describe the CuO 2 planes of the high- T c superconductors. Using a large wavelength approach, we show that the ferromagnetic component of the Cu spin fluctuations couple to the oxygen holes producing a pairing interaction that leads to a superconducting gap whose symmetry is determined by the anisotropy of the Kondo interaction. We calculate T c as a function of the hole concentration in a mean-field approximation and our numerical results are in good agreement with the experiments.

Abstract: We present a theory describing the superconducting (SC) interaction of Dirac electrons in a quasi-two-dimensional system consisting of a stack of N planes. The occurrence of a SC phase is investigated both at T = 0 and T 5 0. At T = 0, we find a quantum phase transition connecting the normal and SC phases. Our theory qualitatively reproduces the SC phase transition occurring in the underdoped regime of the high-Tc cuprates. Abstract: Dirac fermions were originally proposed by Dirac as the solutions of his relativistic wave-function equation. From then on they played a crucial role in the relativistic description of quarks and leptons. In the recent years it has been realized that several condensed matter systems contain electrons that, due to the presence of the lattice, behave precisely like Dirac electrons. We explore here the consequences of this fact in materials such as Graphene, Transition Metal Dichalcogenides and in Topological Quantum Computation.

Abstract: We investigate the renormalization of the Fermi velocity in a plane graphene sheet in the presence of a parallel conducting plate. We use the pseudo-quantum electrodynamics to describe the Coulombian interaction between the electrons, but taking into account that this interaction is changed by the conducting plate. Incorporating the influence of the plate into the gauge field, we obtain the correspondent photon propagator and electron self-energy, showing that the logarithmic renormalization of the Fermi velocity is inhibited by the presence of the plate. Our result may be useful as an alternative way to control the electronic properties of graphene.

Abstract: Pseudo-Quantum Electrodynamics (PQED) provides an excellent description of the interaction between charged particles confined to a plane. When we couple pseudo-gauge field with a bosonic matter field, we obtain the so-called Scalar Pseudo-Quantum Electrodynamics (SPQED). In this work, we make a perturbative analysis of SPQED via Feynman diagrams. We compute the one loop Green functions: bosonic field self-energy, electromagnetic field self-energy, and vertex corrections. Finally, we consider the non-relativistic interaction potential between two bosonic particles. We compute the radiative corrections to the usual Coulomb potential and comment on the analogies and the differences with the fermionic case.

Abstract: Quantum electrodynamics (QED) of electrons confined in a plane and that yet can undergo interactions mediated by an unconstrained photon has been described by the so-called {\it pseudo-QED} (PQED), the (2+1)-dimensional version of the equivalent dimensionally reduced original QED. In this work, we show that PQED with a nonlocal Chern-Simons term is dual to the Chern-Simons Higgs model at the quantum level. We apply the path-integral formalism in the dualization of the Chern-Simons Higgs model to first describe the interaction between quantum vortex particle excitations in the dual model. This interaction is explicitly shown to be in the form of a Bessel-like type of potential in the static limit. This result {\it per se} opens exciting possibilities for investigating topological states of matter generated by interactions, since the main difference between our new model and the PQED is the presence of a nonlocal Chern-Simons action. Indeed, the dual transformation yields an unexpected square root of the d'Alembertian operator, namely, $(\sqrt{-\Box})^{-1}$ multiplied by the well-known Chern-Simons action. Despite the nonlocality, the resulting model is still gauge invariant and preserves the unitarity, as we explicitly prove. {}Finally, when coupling the resulting model to Dirac fermions, we then show that pairs of bounded electrons are expected to appear, with a typical distance between the particles being inversely proportional to the topologically generated mass for the gauge field in the dual model., Comment: 7 pages. Abstract: 7 pages, 4 figures.-- PACS nrs.: 14.70.Fm; 13.38.Be; 13.85.Qk.-- ISI Article Identifier: 000250140600014.-- ArXiv pre-print available at: http://arxiv.org/abs/0707.0085.-- et al., We present a measurement of the W-boson mass using 200 pb(-1) of data collected in p(p)over-bar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at run II of the Fermilab Tevatron. With a sample of 63 964 W --> e(nu) candidates and 51 128 W --> μ(nu) candidates, we measure M(W) = 80413 ± 34(stat) ± 34(syst) = 80 413 ± 48 MeV/c^2. 15. The resistivity of high-Tc cuprates

Abstract: We show that the resistivity in each phase of the high-Tc cuprates is a special case of a general expression derived from the Kubo formula. We obtain, in particular, the T-linear behavior in the strange metal and upper pseudogap phases, the pure T 2 Fermi liquid behavior observed in the strongly overdoped regime as well as in the mid-pseudogap phase. We also describe the T 1 + δ behavior that interpolates the linear and quadratic behaviors in the crossover regime. We calculate the coefficients: (a) of T in the linear regime and show that it is proportional to the pseudogap transition temperature T *(x); (b) of the T 2-term in the Fermi Liquid regime, without adjusting any parameter; and (c) of the T 1.6 term in the crossover regime, all in excellent agreement with the experimental data. From our model, we are able to infer that the resistivity in cuprates is caused by the scattering of holes by excitons, which naturally form as holes are doped into the electron background.

16. Cavity effects on the Fermi velocity renormalization in a graphene sheet

Abstract: Recently, in the literature, it was shown that the logarithmic renormalization of the Fermi velocity in a plane graphene sheet (which, in turn, is related to the Coulombian static potential associated to electrons in the sheet) is inhibited by the presence of a single parallel conducting plate. In the present paper, we investigate the situation of a suspended graphene sheet in a cavity formed by two conducting plates parallel to the sheet. The effect of a cavity on the interaction between electrons in the graphene is not merely the addition of the effects of each plate individually. From this, one can expect that the inhibition of the renormalization of the Fermi velocity generated by a cavity is not a mere addition of the inhibition induced by each single plate. In other words, the simple addition of the result for the inhibition of the renormalization of the Fermi velocity found in the literature for a single plate could not be used to predict the exact behavior of the inhibition for the graphene between two plates. Here, we show that, in fact, this is what happens and calculate how the presence of a cavity formed by two conducting plates parallel to the suspended graphene sheet amplifies, in a non-additive manner, the inhibition of the logarithmic renormalization of the Fermi velocity. Abstract: We derive two versions of an effective model to describe dynamical effects of the Yukawa interaction among Dirac electrons in the plane. Such short-range interaction is obtained by introducing a mass term for the intermediate particle, which may be either scalar or an abelian gauge field, both of them in (3+1) dimensions. Thereafter, we consider that the fermionic matter field propagates only in (2+1) dimensions, whereas the bosonic field is free to propagate out of the plane. Within these assumptions, we apply a mechanism for dimensional reduction, which yields an effective model in (2+1) dimensions. In particular, for the gauge-field case, we use the Stueckelberg mechanism in order to preserve gauge invariance. We refer to this version as nonlocal-Proca quantum electrodynamics (NPQED). For both scalar and gauge cases, the effective models reproduce the usual Yukawa interaction in the static limit. By means of perturbation theory at one loop, we calculate the mass renormalization of the Dirac field. Our model is a generalization of Pseudo quantum electrodynamics (PQED), which is a gauge-field model that provides a Coulomb interaction for two-dimensional electrons. Possibilities of application to Fermi-Bose mixtures in mixed dimensions, using cold atoms, are briefly discussed.

Abstract: Purpose Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a growing modality of complementary radiodiagnostic. It is applied in a wide range of clinical applications like dentistry, interventional radiology in an operating room and radiotherapy. When a new CBCT is to be installed, a preventive structural shielding design is needed in order to evaluate and limit the dose in the adjacent rooms under the national regulation thresholds. Scatter dose at a specific point is an essential input for a radiation protection project. Unfortunately we did not find in literature any systematic data set for scatter dose from a CBCT; values ranging from 2 to 40 μSv/scan at 1 m distance from the centre of the scattering media are reported in the European Commission Document “Radiation Protection N. 172” [1] and relative to dentistry applications. In the report ICRP 129 [2] the dose to the eye of an operator was reported ranging from 28 to 79 μSv for CBCT hepatic arterial embolisation and biliary tube placement procedures. The purpose of this work was to systematic measure the scatter ambient dose equivalent from a CBCT installed on a linac. Methods Primary kilovoltage beam was generated by a CBCT mounted on a VARIAN TRUEBEAM linear accelerator. The target is composed by tungsten (95%) and rhodium (5%); the permanent source filtration was 2.7 mm Alluminium with an additional filtration made of 0.89 mm Titanium. The primary beam irradiated an anthropomorphic CIRS Atom 701-D phantom (adult male phantom at thorax level) during a single complete gantry rotation. Scatter ambient equivalent dose was measured for 4 energy levels (80 K V p , 100 K V p , 125 K V p and 140 K V p ) and for 3 collimations (approximately 7 cm, 16 cm and 23 cm corresponding to a small, medium and large collimation) along the longitudinal axis (axis around which the X-ray source was rotating). Measurements were performed at a height from the floor equal to the isocentric level and repeated for different angles between the longitudinal axis and the line formed by the center of the irradiated region in the phantom and the measurement point. The used survey meter was the ATOMTEX AT1121. Results The scatter radiation (H*(10) in μSv/mA*min at 1 m distance from the center of the irradiated region in the phantom to the measurement point) was not isotropic at different angles for the same irradiation conditions. For radiation protection purpose only the maximum measured values are reported in the following table. Conclusions The reported H*(10) values give an idea of the scattered radiation from a kilovoltage CBCT installed on a VARIAN TRUEBEAM linac. A new CBCT installation with similar spectral features (e.g. same target and filtration) and outside a radiotherapy environment may benefit from these measurements for radiation protection purposes.

Abstract: We describe dynamical symmetry breaking in a system of massless Dirac fermions with both electromagnetic and four-fermion interactions in (2+1) dimensions. The former is described by the Pseudo Quantum Electrodynamics (PQED) and the latter is given by the so-called Gross-Neveu action. We apply the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation and the large$-N_f$ expansion in our model to obtain a Yukawa action. Thereafter, the presence of a symmetry broken phase is inferred from the non-perturbative Schwinger-Dyson equation for the electron propagator. This is the physical solution whenever the fine-structure constant is larger than a critical value $\alpha_c(D N_f)$. In particular, we obtain the critical coupling constant $\alpha_c\approx 0.36$ for $D N_f=8$., where $D=2,4$ corresponds to the SU(2) and SU(4) cases, respectively, and $N_f$ is the flavor number. Our results show a decreasing of the critical coupling constant in comparison with the case of pure electromagnetic interaction, thus yielding a more favorable scenario for the occurrence of dynamical symmetry breaking. Abstract: The gyromagnetic factor is an important physical quantity relating the magnetic-dipole moment of a particle to its spin. The electron spin g-factor in vacuo is one of the best model-based theoretical predictions ever made, showing agreement with the measured value up to ten parts per trillion. However, for electrons in a material the g-factor is modified with respect to its value in vacuo because of environment interactions. Here, we show how interaction effects lead to the spin g-factor correction in graphene by considering the full electromagnetic interaction in the framework of pseudo-QED. We compare our theoretical prediction with experiments performed on graphene deposited on SiO2 and SiC, and we find a very good agreement between them., Improved version of the manuscript; valley g-factor part has been removed

Abstract: We investigate some of the thermodynamic properties of iron based pnictides, using an effective J 1 − J 2 − J ⊥ − K spin-model containing only the local Fe moments. Both the multi-layered structure of the material, as well as the single ion anisotropy, are taken into account through the J ⊥ and K couplings, respectively. We derive a fully analytic expression for the magnetic contribution to the specific heat when J ⊥ = 0 ; the case when J ⊥ ≠ 0 is evaluated numerically. Both solutions (with no adjustable parameters) are found to compare favorably with the reported experimental data for SrFe 2 As 2 . An improvement is, however, noticed for the J ⊥ ≠ 0 case, consistent with the layered character of these weakly coupled magnetic structures. We discuss the applicability of our formalism to other oxy/pnictides, or related magnetic materials.

Abstract: We investigate the effect of superconducting and excitonic interactions, as well as their competition, on Dirac electrons on a bipartite planar lattice. It is shown that, at half-filling, Cooper pairs and excitons coexist if the superconducting and excitonic coupling parameters are equal and above a threshold corresponding to a quantum critical point. In the case where only the excitonic interaction is present, we obtain a critical chemical potential, as a function of the interaction strength. Conversely, if only the superconducting interaction is considered, we show that the superconducting gap displays a characteristic dome as charge carriers are doped into the system. We also show that, as the chemical potential increases, superconductivity tends to suppress the excitonic order parameter.

Abstract: We report the observation and measurement of the mass of the bottom, strange baryon $\Xi^-_b$ through the decay chain $\Xi^-_b \to J/\psi \Xi^-$, where $J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^-$, $\Xi^- \to \Lambda \pi^-$, and $\Lambda \to p \pi^-$. Evidence for observation is based on a signal whose probability of arising from the estimated background is 6.6 x 10^{-15}, or 7.7 Gaussian standard deviations. The $\Xi^-_b$ mass is measured to be $5792.9\pm 2.5$ (stat.) $\pm 1.7$ (syst.) MeV/$c^2$., Comment: Minor text changes for the second version. Accepted by Phys. Rev. Lett

Abstract: Manipulation of intrinsic electron degrees of freedom, such as charge and spin, gives rise to electronics and spintronics, respectively. Electrons in monolayer materials with a honeycomb lattice structure, such as the Transition-Metal Dichalcogenides (TMD's), can be distinguished according to the region (valley) of the Brillouin zone to which they belong. Valleytronics, the manipulation of this electron's property, is expected to set up a new era in the realm of electronic devices. In this work, we accurately determine the energy spectrum and lifetimes of exciton (electron-hole) bound-states for different TMD materials, namely WSe$_2$, WS$_2$ and MoS$_2$. For all of them, we obtain a splitting of the order of 170 meV between the exciton energies from different valleys, corresponding to an effective Zeeman magnetic field of 1400 T. Our approach, which employs quantum-field theory (QFT) techniques based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation and the Schwinger-Dyson formalism, takes into account the full electromagnetic interaction among the electrons. The valley selection mechanism operates through the dynamical breakdown of the time-reversal (TR) symmetry, which originally interconnects the two valleys. This symmetry is spontaneously broken whenever the full electromagnetic interaction vertex is used to probe the response of the system to an external field.

Abstract: We report on a CDF measurement of the total cross section and rapidity distribution, d{sigma}/dy, for q{bar q} {yields} {gamma}{sup *}/Z {yields} e{sup +} e {sup -} events in the Z boson mass region (66 < M {sub ee} < 116 GeV/c {sub 2}) produced in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV with 2.1 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity. The measured cross section of 257 {+-} 16pb and d{sigma}/dy distribution are compared with Next-to-Leading-Order (NLO) and Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Order (NNLO) QCD theory predictions with CTEQ and MRST/MSTW parton distribution functions (PDFs). There is good agreement between the experimental total cross section and d{sigma}/dy measurements with theoretical calcualtion with the most recent NNLO PDFs.

41. Quantum field theory solution for a short-range interacting SO(3) quantum spin-glass

Abstract: We study the quenched disordered magnetic system, which is obtained from the 2D SO(3) quantum Heisenberg model, on a square lattice, with nearest neighbors interaction, by taking a Gaussian random distribution of couplings centered in an antiferromagnetic coupling, J¯>0 and with a width ΔJ. Using coherent spin states we can integrate over the random variables and map the system onto a field theory, which is a generalization of the SO(3) nonlinear sigma model with different flavors corresponding to the replicas, coupling parameter proportional to J¯ and having a quartic spin interaction proportional to the disorder (ΔJ). After deriving the CP1 version of the system, we perform a calculation of the free energy density in the limit of zero replicas, which fully includes the quantum fluctuations of the CP1 fields zi. We, thereby obtain the phase diagram of the system in terms of (T,J¯,ΔJ). This presents an ordered antiferromagnetic (AF) phase, a paramagnetic (PM) phase and a spin-glass (SG) phase. A critical curve separating the PM and SG phases ends at a quantum critical point located between the AF and SG phases, at T=0. The Edwards–Anderson order parameter, as well as the magnetic susceptibilities are explicitly obtained in each of the three phases as a function of the three control parameters. The magnetic susceptibilities show a Curie-type behavior at high temperatures and exhibit a clear cusp, characteristic of the SG transition, at the transition line. The thermodynamic stability of the phases is investigated by a careful analysis of the Hessian matrix of the free energy. We show that all principal minors of the Hessian are positive in the limit of zero replicas, implying in particular that the SG phase is stable.

42. Magnetic field effects on the superconducting and quantum critical properties of layered systems with Dirac electrons

Abstract: We study the effects of an external magnetic field on the superconducting properties of a quasi-two-dimensional system of Dirac electrons at an arbitrary temperature. An explicit expression for the superconducting gap is obtained as a function of temperature, magnetic field and coupling parameter ($\lambda_{\rm R}$). From this, we extract the $B \times \lambda_{\rm R}$, $T\times \lambda_{\rm R}$ and $B \times T$ phase diagrams. The last one shows a linear decay of the critical field for small values thereof, which is similar to the behavior observed experimentally in the copper doped dichalcogenide $Cu_xTiSe_2$ and also in intercalated graphite. The second one, presents a coupling dependent critical temperature $T_c$ that resembles the one observed in high-$T_c$ cuprates in the underdoped region and also in $Cu_xTiSe_2$. The first one, exhibits a quantum phase transition connecting a normal and a superconducting phase, occurring at a critical line that corresponds to a magnetic field dependent critical coupling parameter. Abstract: We present a search for new particles in an extension to the standard model that includes a heavy Higgs boson (H-0), a lighter charged Higgs boson (H+/-), and an even lighter Higgs boson h(0), with decays leading to a W-boson pair and a bottom-antibottom quark pair in the final state. We use events with exactly one lepton, missing transverse momentum, and at least four jets in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb(-1) collected by the CDF II detector in proton-antiproton collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. We find the data to be consistent with standard model predictions and report the results in terms of a simplified Higgs-cascade-decay model, setting 95% confidence level upper limits on the product of cross section and branching fraction from 1.3 pb to 15 fb as a function of H-0 and H+/- masses for m(h)(0) = 126 GeV/c(2). Abstract: Se evaluó el efecto de la temperatura (12-15 y 22-25 ºC) y el tiempo de almacenamiento (0 y 16 horas) de ovarios de alpacas sobre la tasa de maduración y división posfecundación in vitro. Los ovarios fueron recolectados de alpacas adultas sacrificadas en el camal de Pilpichaca (Huancavelica, Perú) y transportados al laboratorio en solución salina al 0.9% con una temperatura inicial de 35 ºC. Los ovarios fueron distribuidos al azar en los tratamientos Control (0 h), T1 (16 h a 12-15 ºC) y T2 (16 h a 22-25 ºC). Los ovocitos se obtuvieron por disección, seleccionándose aquellos con una o más capas de cúmulos, y madurados en medio TCM 199 por 40 h bajo condiciones de 5% CO y 39 °C. Parte de los ovocitos (172) fueron fijados y teñidos para evaluar el estadio de maduración nuclear y los restantes (440) fueron co-cultivados por 18 h con espermatozoides obtenidos de epidídimos. Posteriormente, los presuntos cigotos fueron colocados en medio de cultivo KSOM por 72 h posfecundación in vitro y luego transferidos a medio SOF. Se obtuvo una tasa de maduración nuclear en metafase II de 47.9, 12.2 y 32.7%, una tasa de división de 46.2, 8.1 y 32.7% y una tasa de blastocistos de 33.3, 14.2 y 20.6% para los grupos Control, T1 y T2, respectivamente (p

Abstract: We examine the unitarity of a class of generalized Maxwell U(1) gauge theories in (2+1) D containing the pseudodifferential operator $\Box^{1-\alpha}$, for $\alpha \in [0,1)$. We show that only Quantum Electrodynamics (QED$_3$) and its generalization known as Pseudo Quantum Electrodynamics (PQED), for which $\alpha =0$ and $\alpha = 1/2$, respectively, satisfy unitarity. Abstract: We study the effects of disorder in two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets on a square lattice, within the nonlinear sigma model approach, by using a random continuum distribution of spin stiffnesses or zero-temperature spin gaps, respectively, in the renormalized classical and quantum disordered phases. The quenched staggered magnetic susceptibility at low temperatures is evaluated in each case, showing that the phase structure of the clean system is preserved. The asymptotic behavior of the quenched static and dynamic spin correlation functions is also obtained in the quantum disordered phase. Disorder is shown to introduce a change from exponential to power-law decay in these functions, indicating that the spin excitations become gapless, in spite of the fact that the system is in a paramagnetic state. The scale determining the change in behavior is related to the variance of the distribution function. A comparison is made with the dual behavior of skyrmion topological excitations in the renormalized classical phase. The effect found here is compared with the one produced by Griffiths singularities occurring in disordered systems.

Abstract: We present an exact derivation for the asymptotic large distance behavior of the spin two-point correlation function in the XY-model. This allows for the exact obtainment of the critical exponent $\eta=1/4$ at the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition that occurs in this model and in the 2D neutral Coulomb gas and which has been previously obtained by scaling arguments. In order to do that, we use the language of sine-Gordon theory to obtain a Coulomb Gas description of the XY-model spin correlation function, which becomes identified with the soliton correlator of that theory. Using a representation in terms of bipolar coordinates we obtain an exact expression for the asymptotic large distance behavior of the relevant correlator at $\beta^2=8\pi$, which corresponds to the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. The result is obtained by approaching this point from the plasma (high-temperature) phase of the gas. Abstract: We study a Ginzburg–Landau theory of two coupled fields describing superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in a metal. A coupling between the two-components superconductor and the antiferromagnetic (AF) field is included in the classical action. The classical results are improved calculating the quantum corrections to one-loop order with the method of the effective potential near the AF phase, but in the paramagnetic side. We discuss the influence of these corrections, including the possibility of fluctuation induced first order transitions. A scaling approach is used to obtain the critical and shift exponents at a quantum bicritical point.

Abstract: Nowadays there are mainly three types of detectors available for measuring radon concentrations: charcoal canisters, alpha-tracks and E-PERMs. We carried out measurements with the three types of detectors and we tested their performances over a wide range of radon concentrations, temperatures and humidities. We compared the results obtained with the different detectors and we critically evaluated the results.
