This paper proposes a low-complexity model predictive current control (MPCC) strategy based on extended voltage vectors to enhance the computational efficiency and steady-state performance of three-phase series-winding permanent magnet synchronous motors (TPSW-PMSMs). Compared to conventional MPCC methods, this approach increases the number of candidate voltage vectors in the alpha–beta plane from 8 to 38, thereby achieving better steady-state performance. Specifically, the proposed method reduces the total harmonic distortion (THD) by 59%. To improve computational efficiency, a two-stage filtering strategy is employed, significantly reducing the computational burden. The number of voltage vectors traversed in one control period is reduced from 38 to a maximum of 4, achieving an 89% reduction in traversals. Additionally, to mitigate the impact of zero-sequence currents, zero-sequence current suppression is implemented within the control system for effective compensation. By combining low computational complexity, reliable steady-state performance, and real-time control capabilities, this strategy provides an efficient solution for TPSW-PMSM systems. Symmetry is widely present in science and daily life. And the internal structure of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) has good symmetry. This article is dedicated to studying the tracking problem of PMSMs with adaptive and backstepping control methods. The research objective of this study is to design new adaptive controllers U q and U d , which enable the state of the motor position servo system to asymptotically and stably track the given signals of the system. They can suppress the impact of changes in B, J, and T L and can also enhance the robustness of the system. (i) The strongly coupled current and speed, variation of parameters over time, and nonlinearity of motor torque objectively pose significant challenges in the design of adaptive tracking controllers for PMSMs. (ii) Adaptive control technology and backstepping control methods are used for designing controllers for the PMSMs. (iii) After rigorous reasoning, an intelligent adaptive tracking control strategy for the PMSMs has been derived, which is for the direct axis current and the angle. (iv) The new adaptive tracking controllers are superior to existing controllers in that they can strongly suppress the disturbance of system parameters J, T L , and B, make the system state asymptotically stable, and achieve good tracking performance for the given signals. Speed of convergence and robustness against disturbances affecting a dynamical system are of great importance in real-life applications. To satisfy these requirements, another approach called predefined time control has been developed in the last decade, which ensures the convergence of the states of a class of dynamical systems to the desired reference value in a time set by the control designer at will. However, previously proposed predefined time control algorithms have drawbacks that need to be tackled. For this reason, the authors present another form of predefined time control algorithm that can be coupled with any observer (in the case where not all the states of the system can be measured) or any other robust controller to robustify the system against matched disturbances. The development shows that the necessary form of the control law can be obtained using basic integration and backstepping. The performance of the control law is demonstrated through a series of numerical simulations utilizing the mathematical model of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The results show that the proposed control algorithm is, indeed, robust against any matched disturbance, and the convergence of the system states is ensured independently of any initial condition in the time set by the control designer at will. The automotive market is very competitive and demands consistently improving the technologies used and reducing the product cost and dimensions with each product model iteration. Hence, it is important to have access to well-defined reference designs of high-quality products to evaluate new ideas and technologies. This paper provides readers with a numerical model of such a high-quality product, i.e., the IPMSM-type traction motor from the fourth generation of the Toyota Prius hybrid transaxle. The presented results also serve for a discussion regarding the design decisions of the Toyota engineers and the applicability of the linearized machine model for the approximated torque calculations. In the introductory section, a brief history of the Prius model and references to the reverse engineering reports are given. Afterward, the machine dimensions, material properties, and winding configuration are described. Then, the model is validated with the torque measurements at constant speed. The simulation results are presented in the next chapters, and the numerical source data are supplied to the reader. Since robustness is only maintained on the sliding-mode surface, sliding mode control is inherently non-globally stable. Therefore, reducing the time to reach the sliding mode is crucial for enhancing sliding mode robustness. To improve the performance of conventional super-twisting reaching law (CSTRL) further, we propose a fast-terminal super-twisting reaching law (FTSTRL) designed to improve the quality of sliding mode control. This approach incorporates a terminal term and an exponential term with the CSTRL to ensure rapid convergence. The effectiveness of the designed FTSTRL is validated by comparing it to the CSTRL and a new sliding mode reaching law, demonstrating its superior performance. Finally, integrated square error (ISE), integrated time square error (ITSE), integrated absolute error (IAE), and integrated time absolute error (ITAE) are employed for detailed comparative and quantitative analyses of the simulation results. To improve the Solar Array Drive Assembly (SADA) system, a servo control method known as Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control (LADRC) is introduced, utilizing a speed loop for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). This method serves as an alternative to the conventional proportional–integral (PI) controller, which exhibits a limited stability margin. The use of the LADRC controller leads to decreased overshoot and enhances the system's robustness against disturbances. First, the mathematical representation of the PMSM alongside the dynamic model of the solar wing is established. Following that, the application of the Lyapunov stability theory is employed to illustrate the stability of the drive system utilizing LADRC, thereby validating the stability of the SADA. Lastly, simulation experiments are performed using the MATLAB2021a/Simulink digital environment. The simulation results under various operational conditions indicate the significant improvement in stability compared to the PI controller, achieving the stability level of 9.603 × 10 − 5 , demonstrates enhanced performance in terms of speed and resistance to disturbances. Intersecting disciplines, as an important trend in the development of modern academic research and education, have exerted a profound and positive influence on scientific research activities. Based on control theory and fractional-order theory, this paper presents a novel approach for the speed regulation of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in the presence of uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed method is a composite control based on a model-free sliding mode and a fractional-order ultra-local model. The model-free sliding mode is a control strategy that utilizes the sliding mode control methodology without explicitly relying on a mathematical model of the system being controlled. The fractional-order ultra-local model is a mathematical representation of a dynamic system that incorporates the concept of fractional-order derivatives. The core of the controller is a new type of fractional-order fast nonsingular terminal sliding mode surface, which ensures high robustness, quick convergence, while preventing singularity. Moreover, a novel fractional-order nonlinear extended state observer is proposed to estimate both internal and external disturbances of the fractional-order ultra-local model. The stability of the system is analyzed using both the Lyapunov stability theory and the Mittag–Leffler stability theory. The analysis confirms the convergence stability of the closed-loop system under the proposed control scheme. The comparison results indicate that the proposed composite control based on the fractional-order ultra-local model is a promising solution for regulating the speed of PMSMs in the presence of uncertainties and disturbances. To improve the accuracy of the sensorless control system for permanent magnet synchronous motors, this paper proposes the based on fractional order integral sliding mode theory in the model reference adaptive system observer. The purpose of this approach is to enhance the robustness of the system. Furthermore, this paper introduces the second-order sliding mode reaching law to suppress chattering phenomena and improve the control accuracy of the observer. As control algorithms evolve, their enhanced performance is often accompanied by increased complexity, reaching a point where practical experimentation becomes unfeasible. This situation has led to many theoretical studies relying solely on simulations without experimental verification. To address this gap, this study introduces a rapid experimentation protocol (REP) for applying field-oriented control (FOC) strategies to permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) based on model-based design (MBD) and automated code generation. REP is designed to be user-friendly and straightforward, offering a less complex and more accessible alternative to DSP toolboxes. Its excellent hardware compatibility is conducive to code porting and development. With this protocol, users can quickly conduct FOC strategy experiments with reduced dependency on the complex automated code generation tools often associated with toolboxes. Centered around the PMSM model, this method utilizes only the fundamental modules of MATLAB2023b/Simulink, greatly simplifying the user experience. To demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of the protocol, models for both sensor-based and sensorless control are developed. Presented in this article is a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control under open-circuit fault (OCF) operation using field-oriented control (FOC) with independent speed and flux controllers. The independent control allows the motor to operate efficiently under varying conditions. A simplified control approach is employed to control the PMSM under the OCF situation; the actual flux and torque of the PMSM are directly measured by the stator currents, eliminating the need for estimators or phase-locked-loop (PLL) systems. Matlab/Simulink is employed for the simulation, while hardware experiments are conducted using a dSPACE DS1104. The simulation and the hardware results demonstrate the control method's effectiveness in maintaining continuous motor operation during OCF, its robustness against OCF conditions, and its ability to adapt under varying conditions, including speed, flux, and load torque change. The accurate identification of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) parameters is the foundation for high-performance driving in predictive control systems. The traditional PMSM multi-parameter identification method suffers from insufficient rank of the identification equation and is prone to getting stuck in local optimal solutions. This article combines the bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (BFOA) to establish a built-in PMSM predictive control parameter compensation model. Firstly, we analyzed the reasons why the distortion of PMSM motor parameters affects the actual speed and calculated the deviation of d-axis and q-axis currents caused by the distortion. Secondly, parameter compensation was applied to the prediction model, and BFOA was combined to optimize the compensation parameters. This algorithm does not use the traditional voltage equation as the fitness function but instead uses a brand-new set of four equations for parameter iteration optimization. The optimized compensation parameters can reduce current deviation and improve the robustness of the PMSM predictive control system. The proposed model can cover four kinds of motor distortion parameters, including stator resistance, D-axis inductance, Q-axis inductance, and permanent magnet flux linkage. Finally, the traditional PMSM predictive control model is compared with the predictive control model combined with BFOA. Maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control of internal permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) has become integral to high-efficiency motor drives. To minimize the influence of the traditional model-based analytical solution method on the MTPA control strategy due to the parameter variations during the motor operation, an online search MTPA method without model-based fractional-order extremum seeking control (FO-ESC) is proposed. Compared with the traditional integer-order ESC method, the Oustaloup approximation-based fractional-order calculus provides additional factors and possibilities for optimizing controller parameters to improve control performance. At the same time, the proposed approach does not require machine parameters and is thus not influenced by machine and drive nonlinearities. Simulation results show that the proposed method can ensure robust MTPA control under different loading conditions in real-time and improve the system's dynamic response speed and steady-state accuracy. Model predictive controllers are widely discussed in the field of dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor control. However, conventional predictive current controllers usually suffer from parameter inaccuracies or model uncertainties, resulting in prediction errors and deterioration of control performance. Therefore, in this paper, an extended state observer-based (ESO) model predictive current controller is proposed to effectively improve the dynamic performance of the motor and its robustness to parameters or disturbances. Parameter inaccuracies or model uncertainties are considered to be lumped disturbances and expressed in the modified mathematical model of the motor. Then, with the designed observer estimating the external disturbances in real time, the prediction error is compensated and corrected periodically. Additionally, the parameter design method of the observer is presented to simplify the controller design. Finally, comparative experiments are implemented to sufficiently demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for dynamic performance improvement as well as for parameter robustness. The results show that the proposed method takes only 17 μ s of computation time with a closed-loop bandwidth of 1839 rad / s . In addition, the maximum d-axis following error of the proposed method is only 0.10 A in the load dynamics experiments, which is a significant improvement compared to the 0.79 A of the traditional proportional-integral controller. Photovoltaic (PV)‐fed motor pump system employs an advanced system that eliminates the need for batteries to reduce maintenance and equipment costs during the day in desert areas. Real‐time adjustment of the motor output speed stops the motor from drawing power from a storage capacitor in the DC link so that sensors and microcontrollers (MCU) do not lose power and restart. This paper proposes an extremum seeking control (ESC) to achieve high accuracy of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm by improving the accuracy of current and voltage measurements. MPPT‐based motor speed vector control rule is proposed. A field‐oriented control (FOC) scheme and sensorless direct torque control (DTC) scheme are introduced for comparison. The control method and interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) are tested on the PV simulator and dynamometer experimental test‐rig. The test results show that the sensorless DTC can regulate the motor speed and torque to the desired value without system power failure. In contrast, the speed fluctuation of FOC control is lower than sensorless DTC. However, the system tuning time of DTC is faster and easy to support the whole system operation. Although a switched reluctance generator (SRG) is not the mainstream wind generator, it possesses the application potential and is worth developing for its many structural merits and high developed power ability. This paper presents a wind SRG-based bipolar DC microgrid having grid-connected and plug-in energy supporting functions. First, a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM)-driven wind turbine emulator (WTE) is established. Next, the wind SRG with an asymmetric bridge converter is developed. Good generating characteristics are obtained through proper designs of power circuit, commutation mechanism, external excitation source, voltage and current controllers. Third, a DC/DC boost interface converter and a bipolar voltage balancer are constructed to establish the 500 V microgrid bipolar DC-bus. To preserve the microgrid power supplying quality, a battery energy storage system (BESS) with bidirectional DC/DC interface converter is equipped. A dump load leg is added across the bus to limit the DC-bus voltage under energy surplus condition. In load side, a three-phase bidirectional load inverter is developed, which can be operated as a single-phase three-wire (1P3W) inverter or a three-phase three-wire (3P3W) inverter. Good sinusoidal voltage waveform and regulation characteristics are obtained using the proportional-resonant (PR) control. The microgrid to load and microgrid to grid operations are conductible. Finally, to further improve the powering reliability of microgrid, a three-phase T-type Vienna switch-mode rectifier (SMR) based plug-in energy supporting scheme is developed. Field-oriented control (FOC) has achieved great success in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control. For the PMSM drive, FOC allows the motor torque and flux to be controlled separately, which means the torque and flux are decoupled from each other. Since the torque control is achieved by the speed controller, it can be considered that the speed and the flux of the PMSM are also decoupled from each other and can be controlled separately. In this paper, we propose a PMSM vector control using decoupled speed and flux controllers based on the proportional-resonant (PR) control method. A flux controller is proposed to control the flux of the PMSM and generate the d-axis reference current, whereas the speed regulator is used to generate the torque as well as the q-axis reference current. The PR controller is proposed to control the dq-axis currents and generate the reference voltages; its design is included.Therefore, decoupled speed and flux controllers are controlled separately using the PR controller. The Matlab/Simulink environment is utilized for the simulation, while the dSPACE DS1104 is used for the experimental work. The proposed control method is simple; there are no flux or torque estimators required, so it can avoid the complexity of estimators in the control scheme. The motor is tested under different scenarios, including flux change, speed change, and load torque change. The simulation and hardware results show the effectiveness of the proposed control method in controlling the the speed and the flux of PMSM with fast motor response and good dynamic performance in the different scenarios. We are concerned with the problem of fast and accurate tracking of currents in the general synchronous drive. The problem becomes complicated with decreasing available voltage, which is common in high-speed and field weakening regimes. The existing time-optimal controllers rely on a simplified model, ignoring stator resistance and differences in inductances. We derive a solution for the general model considering all parameters and show how the parameters affect the current trajectory. One simplifying assumption had to be made, but we show in simulation that it has a negligible impact on accuracy. The simplification allowed for the design of a feed-forward controller that has a low computational cost and can be easily implemented in realtime. We provide experimental validation of the controller on the developed IPMSM drive prototype of the rated power of 4.5 kW using conventional industrial DSP. The controller is compared to conventional PI and deadbeat solutions, demonstrating that the time-optimal controller can reach the required setpoint four times faster than the competitors at the field weakening regime of the drive. In order to optimize the performance of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives, a fractional-order sliding mode (FOSM) control scheme combining generalized proportional integral observer (GPIO) is adopted in this paper. A FOSM controller is firstly employed to reduce the negative effects of the load torque and parameter variations in the PMSM system. However, the FOSM control method mostly needs high control gain to moderate the unfavorable effects of the total disturbance, which will inevitably lead to large chattering phenomenon. Therefore, the unknown lumped disturbance is effectively estimated by using a GPIO, and the estimated value is synchronously compensated to the FOSM speed controller. Even if a smaller control gain is chosen, the robustness of the proposed composite GPIO-based FOSM controller is better than that of the FOSM controller. In the speed control system of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) without a speed sensor, PI controllers using only a fixed set of parameters cannot achieve accurate tracking of the estimated speed in a wide speed domain and also suffer from step response overshoot. This paper proposes a Compound Variable Structure PI (CVSPI) controller to improve the system control performance. It can choose whether to include an integral term according to the size of the system deviation to speed up the response. It also introduces a Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) speed observer in the controller to estimate the speed and adaptively adjust the size of the anti-integration saturation gain to improve the dynamic response following performance and immunity of the system. A feed-forward link is added for a given input differential to achieve an accurate answer to time-varying inputs. As the linear compensation matrix of the conventional MRAS is a unit matrix, the speed can only be accurately observed in a specific speed range. In this paper, a new linear compensation matrix is designed, and a new speed adaptive law is derived, allowing the improved MRAS to measure speed over a wide range accurately. This paper proposes a novel and robust method of sensorless speed control using a deadbeat observer for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). The proposed sensorless speed control method uses a deadbeat observer to estimate the extended electromotive force (EEMF) in a rotational coordinate system. The estimated EEMF is used in the IPMSM velocity estimation algorithm. The deadbeat EEMF observer (DEEMFO) shows greater robustness compared to the reconstructor, which estimates the EEMF by simply recalculating the voltage equation. Unlike a reconstructor, DEEMFO has a feedback component, so it can compensate for errors due to uncertainty in motor parameters and errors due to parameter fluctuations that may occur during use. By simulating and experimenting with speed, load torque, and parameter fluctuations, it is proved to be more robust and precise than the reconstructor. The simulation is performed with MATLAB/Simulink, and the experiments were carried out using a DSP TMS320F28335 and a motor-generator set (M-G Set). This paper suggests an adaptive funnel dynamic surface control method with a disturbance observer for the permanent magnet synchronous motor with time delays. An improved prescribed performance function is integrated with a modified funnel variable at the beginning of the controller design to coordinate the permanent magnet synchronous motor with the output constrained into an unconstrained one, which has a faster convergence rate than ordinary barrier Lyapunov functions. Then, the specific controller is devised by the dynamic surface control technique with first-order filters to the unconstrained system. Therein, a disturbance-observer and the radial basis function neural networks are introduced to estimate unmatched disturbances and multiple unknown nonlinearities, respectively. Several Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals are constructed to make up for time delays, enhancing control performance. The first-order filters are implemented to overcome the "complexity explosion" caused by general backstepping methods. Additionally, the boundedness and binding ranges of all the signals are ensured through the detailed stability analysis. Aimed at the problems of system chattering and large observation errors in the sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based on a traditional sliding mode observer (SMO), a combined reaching law algorithm based on the exponential reaching law and arcsine saturation function reaching law is proposed to improve the sliding mode observer. An appropriate positive real number is taken and compared with the product of controller gain and stator current observation error to judge the system position in sliding mode motion. In the early stage of sliding mode motion, the exponential reaching law is utilized, and then, in the latter and stable stages of sliding mode motion, the arcsine saturation function reaching law is used. The stability of the observer is proved by Lyapunov theory. The simulation and experimental data show that the speed error of the sliding mode observer based on the combined reaching law is reduced by 80% compared with the traditional sliding mode observer, and the chattering problem is also improved. Demagnetization in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), caused by high temperature or inverse magnetic field, may increase loss and torque ripple, and even degrade the system stability in severe cases. On-line detection can identify the incipient demagnetization of permanent magnets (PMs), as well as providing reference for subsequent fault-tolerant control, so as to avoid further demagnetization. Therefore, an on-line demagnetization detection method is proposed in this paper by using flux observer. First, an observer is established in the three-phase stationary reference frame by taking the stator currents and the amplitudes of the fundamental and harmonic components of flux as state variables. Then, three demagnetization indexes are presented to evaluate the properties of PMs based on the observed flux information. The proposed method can directly track the amplitude of harmonic flux and evaluate the severity of the demagnetization more comprehensively. This paper presents the trajectory tracking control of a flexible-joint manipulator driven by permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Combining the PMSM electrical equation and mechanical equation of robotic manipulators, a novel smooth switching control scheme is proposed. Firstly, the position loop controller of the system is designed, with an improved hierarchical sliding mode control (IHSMC) algorithm proposed to further the response speed of the system, additionally, a robust interconnection and damping assignment passivity-based controller (IDA-PBC) is designed to improve the steady state performance of the system. Then, the IDA-PBC control strategy is leveraged to design the current loop controller of the system, on which basis a hybrid controller with smooth switching is designed. Furthermore, Gaussian function is applied as the smooth switching function of the hybrid controller to promote the switching performance. In many industrial systems, symmetry is the key to ensuring efficiency and reliability. For example, in electric vehicles, the driving system often requires high symmetry. As widely used motors, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are often used in highly symmetrical structures as the driving devices. Consequently, maintaining the symmetry of the system relies on the normal and stable operation of the PMSM, and it is necessary to diagnose faults in the PMSM in a timely manner. In PMSM fault diagnosis methods, frequency domain features of the stator current are extensively used. However, these features change with the switching of motor operating conditions, leading to difficulty of diagnosis in multiple operating conditions. Therefore, a fault diagnosis method based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) phase tracker is proposed in this paper. Through phase tracking and angular domain resampling, the fundamental frequency of stator currents in different operating conditions are aligned, so as to fix the distribution of frequency domain features and solve the problem of features changing with operating conditions. Experimental results show that the proposed method can resample the stator current signals with a small error, detect faults in a relatively short time with high accuracy, and diagnose fault type and severity level under multiple operating conditions. In this paper, the optimal design of a brushless direct current motor with a three-dimensional (3D) structure using the response surface methodology (RSM) is presented. There were two optimization goals: reduction of the cogging torque and maintenance of the back electromotive force to prevent performance degradation. For motors with a 3D structure, a 3D finite element method analysis is essential, though it requires considerable computation time. This paper presents an improved voltage flux-weakening strategy of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in a high-speed operation. The speed control performance using voltage flux-weakening control is not affected by the motor parameters, so it is used in various motors for high-speed operations. In general, the voltage flux-weakening control uses voltage references to generate a flux axis current reference. However, there may be errors between the voltage reference and the actual voltage flowing into the motor. This causes an error in the current reference generation and reduces the efficiency of the inverter and motor due to the use of more current. In this paper, the problems that can occur due to voltage errors were analyzed through theoretical approaches and simulations, and improved voltage flux-weakening control to resolve these problems was presented. This method's advantage is that the error between the voltage reference and the voltage applied to the motor can be minimized, and the target speed can be reached with minimum current. As a result, it was possible to increase the energy efficiency by reducing the amount of current flowing through the motor. The effect of the improved voltage-based flux-weakening control method was verified through simulations and experiments. As a result, the voltage errors were reduced by approximately 2.16% compared to the general method. In this study, we designed a feedback linearization control strategy for linear permanent magnet synchronous motors (LPMSMs) as well as a robust control mechanism. First, the highly nonlinear system was transformed into an exact linear system by the feedback linearization technique. Then, we designed a robust controller to mitigate the impact of system parameter disturbances on system performance. This novel robust feedback controller can be applied to electromagnetic force, speed and position control loops in linear motors, correct the errors created by uncertainty factors in the entire system in real time, and set the system's settling time based on the application environment of the plant. Finally, we performed simulations and experiments using a PC-based motor control system, which demonstrated that the proposed robust feedback controller can achieve good performance in the controlled system with robust anti-disturbance control. This paper proposes a speed-loop periodic controller design for fault-tolerant surface permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive systems. Faulty conditions, including an open insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), a short-circuited IGBT, or a Hall-effect current sensor fault are investigated. The fault-tolerant SPMSM drive system using a speed-loop periodic controller has better performance than when using a speed-loop PI controller under normal or faulty conditions. The superiority of the proposed speed-loop-periodic-controller-based SPMSM drive system includes faster transient responses and better load disturbance responses. A detailed design of the speed-loop periodic controller and its related fault-tolerant method, including fault detection, diagnosis, isolation, and control are included. In addition, a current estimator is also proposed to estimate the stator current. When the Hall-effect current sensor is faulty, the estimated current is used to replace the current of the faulty sensor. A 32-bit digital signal processor, type TMS-320F-2808, is used to execute the fault-tolerant method and speed-loop periodic control. Measured experimental results validate the theoretical analysis. This work addresses the problem of mitigating the effects of the cogging torque in permanent magnet synchronous motors, particularly brushless motors, which is a main issue in precision electric drive applications. In this work, a method for mitigating the effects of the cogging torque is proposed, based on the use of a nonlinear automatic control technique known as feedback linearization that is ideal for underactuated dynamic systems. The aim of this work is to present an alternative to classic solutions based on the physical modification of the electrical machine to try to suppress the natural interaction between the permanent magnets and the teeth of the stator slots. Such modifications of electric machines are often expensive because they require customized procedures, while the proposed method does not require any modification of the electric drive. With respect to other algorithmic-based solutions for cogging torque reduction, the proposed control technique is scalable to different motor parameters, deterministic, and robust, and hence easy to use and verify for safety-critical applications. As an application case example, the work reports the reduction of the oscillations for the angular position control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor vs. classic PI (proportional-integrative) cascaded control. The application of line-start permanent magnet synchronous motors (LSPMSMs) is rapidly spreading due to their advantages of high efficiency, high operational power factor, being self-starting, rendering them as highly needed in many applications in recent years. Although there have been standard methods for the identification of parameters of synchronous and induction machines, most of them do not apply to LSPMSMs. This paper presents a study and analysis of different parameter identification methods for interior mount LSPMSM. Experimental tests have been performed in the laboratory on a 1-hp interior mount LSPMSM. The measurements have been validated by investigating the performance of the machine under different operating conditions using a developed qd0 mathematical model and an experimental setup. The dynamic and steady-state performance analyses have been performed using the determined parameters. It is found that the experimental results are close to the mathematical model results, confirming the accuracy of the studied test methods.
