Highlights The bonding interface of carbon‐fiber‐reinforced polymer (CFRP)‐reinforced steel structure is a weak part, and nanomaterial‐modified adhesives are expected to improve its comprehensive performance. This paper investigates the micro‐modification mechanisms of nanomaterials on epoxy resin adhesives using molecular dynamics simulation method. It explores how the functionalized nano SiO2 and carbon nanotubes affects the thermal and mechanical properties of the epoxy resin adhesive. The models established using Materials Studio software include the pure epoxy resin adhesive model (EP) with varying degrees of crosslinking, the functionalized nano‐SiO2‐modified epoxy resin adhesive model (EP + SiO2/OH), the single‐walled carbon nanotube‐modified epoxy resin adhesive model (EP + SWNT), and the synergistic enhancements model of the epoxy resin adhesive with nano‐SiO2 and carbon nanotubes (EP + SWNT + SiO2/OH). Based on the aforementioned models, the Forcite module is used to calculate the free volume, glass transition temperature and mechanical properties of the adhesive. The results show that the degree of crosslinking effects significantly the mechanical performance of epoxy resin adhesive. A high degree of crosslinking restricts the movement of the molecular chain, enhancing the strength of the epoxy resin adhesive. Furthermore, the trend of the mechanical and thermal properties of the four models remains constant with the rise of temperature, and the properties decrease most significantly in the range of the glass transition temperature. Moreover, the epoxy resin adhesive doped with nanomaterials exhibits varying degrees of enhancement in mechanical and thermal properties. The epoxy resin adhesive reinforced with functionalized nano‐SiO2 and carbon nanotubes exhibits better properties compared to those with a single nanomaterial. The micro‐modification mechanism is revealed for nanomaterial modified epoxy resin adhesive. The degree of crosslinking effects significantly the mechanical performance of epoxy resin adhesive. Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was prepared from waste plastic using the two steps pyrolysis method and subsequently functionalized with ethylene diamine (EDA) to develop amino‐functionalized rGO (EDA‐rGO). To make the thermal and mechanical properties more proficient, EDA‐rGO was further incorporated as a nanofiller into a low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) matrix using the melt mixing method followed by hot‐pressing. A variety of analytical methods, such as FT‐IR, XRD, XPS, DSC, TGA, DMA, Raman spectroscopy, and HRTEM, were used to characterize the elements and morphology of rGO and EDA‐rGO. The results showed that the addition of 5 wt% EDA‐rGO to LDPE polymers significantly improved the mechanical and thermal properties, such as storage modulus by 62%, loss modulus by 67%, young's modulus by 123%, tensile strength by 79.83%, respectively. The thermal decomposition temperatures of 5%, 10% and 50% were increased by 14.01, 9.34, and 4.8°C, respectively. This study provides a feasible and ecologically sustainable way of repurposing plastic waste concurrently enhancing the properties of polymer composites. Laminated polymer composites are widely used in ballistic barriers where polyethylene can be applied. The mechanical properties of polymers can be improved with the addition of nanofillers. Therefore, this work evaluates the effect of the combination of montmorillonite Cloisite 30B (OMt) and graphene (Gr) on the dynamics compression properties obtained from a split‐Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test for nanostructured maleinized high‐density polyethylene (HDPE). The nanofillers are incorporated into the polymeric matrix in its molten state, and their dispersion is evaluated through x‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analyses. Thermal analysis, including differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis are performed. Additionally, the viscoelastic behavior of the materials is studied from the results of storage and loss modulus obtained by dynamic‐mechanical analysis. Under the SHPB test conditions, it is possible to evaluate the material stress–strain curve, identifying its yield point, compressive strength, and deformations to calculate the elastic stiffness and toughness of the material. The nanocomposite with 3% OMt and 0.75% Gr (wt.%) shows the highest average compressive strength and toughness values. Furthermore, this sample shows similar Tpeak temperature, improved crystallinity index, storage, and loss modulus, with similar glass transition temperature compared to the HDPE sample. Understanding how dangling fragments of polyurethanes (PU) affect its microphase separation structure and damping properties can provide insights for designing desired materials at the molecular scale. By varying the types of diol extenders (such as 1,2‐ethyleneglycol, 1,2‐propanediol, and 1,2‐butanediol), PU samples with different dangling residues were successfully synthesized. Using atomic force microscopy and small‐angle x‐ray scattering, we confirmed that the introduction of dangling chains disrupts microphase separation and demonstrated a correlation between the degree of suppressed microphase separation and the size of the dangling residues. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed that dangling chains reduce the hydrogen bonding index while increasing the phase compatibility between soft and hard segments. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements revealed an increased glass transition temperature (Tg), indicating hindered movement of backbone segments due to dangling chains. Moreover, lengthening the dangling chains further decreased Tg. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) demonstrated improved damping properties with the introduction of dangling chains, although increasing chain length led to deteriorating damping properties, consistent with observations from DSC. These findings suggest that the variations in macroscopic properties of PU induced by dangling chains are linked to hydrogen bonding interactions and micromorphology at the molecular level. Low-cost amorphous nano-carbon (ANC) was employed as an absorbent to modify the microwave performance of AlN ceramics (AlN-4 wt% Y 2 O 3 - x wt% C, x = 0, 2.0, 3.8, 3.9, 4.0) via hot-pressing sintering, and the thermal and mechanical properties were also investigated. With the increase of ANC content from 0 to 4.0 wt%, the relative density of AlN composite decreases from 3.28 g cm−3 to 3.16 g cm−3 when sintered at 1800 °C for 2 h, and with the increase of sintering temperature from 1700 °C, the density of the 4.0 wt% ANC doped AlN composite presents trend of increase and reaches the maximum value of 3.16 g cm−3 at 1800 °C and then decreases. The XRD pattern shows that the composites are composed of AlN and Y–Al–O (YAG, YAP, YAM et al.) phases. SEM results indicate that average grain sizes for AlN and secondary phases gradually decrease with increasing carbon content, suggesting inhibited grain growth due to ANC addition. No obvious changes in phase constitution nor intensity changes were detected with the increase in carbon content and sintering temperature. As the carbon content increases from 0 to 4.0 wt%, the dielectric constant gradually increases from ∼9 to 13.89 at 10 GHz, the dielectric loss gradually increases from the vicinity of 10−3 to 0.38 at 10 GHz, and the reflective loss decreases from −27.92 dB to −49.40 dB, the thermal conductivity of the AlN-ANC composite decreases from 116.63 W m−1 K−1 to 50.13 W m−1 K−1. In addition, with 4.0 wt% ANC addition, the dielectric constant, dielectric loss, reflective loss, hardness, elastic modulus, bending strength, and fracture toughness are 13.89, 0.38, 49.40 dB, 6.4 ± 0.4 GPa, 262 GPa, 268.78 MPa, and 1.4 ± 0.1 MPa m1/2, respectively. Its ability to efficiently absorb microwave energy enhances the performance of devices including radar systems, communication equipment, and microwave heating systems, making it a promising candidate for microwave vacuum electronic applications. Allyl ether naphthol resin (ANPF) was synthesized by introducing 1,5‐dihydroxynaphthalene and 2,7‐dihydroxynaphthalene into phenolic resin and was copolymerized with 4,4′‐bismaleimidodiphenylmethane resin (BDM) to obtain allyl ether naphthol‐modified bismaleimide resins (15‐ANPF‐BDM and 27‐ANPF‐BDM). The resulting thermal stability and glass transition temperature (Tg) were explored by thermogravimetric and dynamic mechanical analyses. The char yield of 15‐ANPF‐BDM at a temperature of 800°C was 46.0%. Additionally, the Tg of 15‐ANPF‐BDM was measured as 311°C, which is an increase of 44°C compared to that of c. The mechanical properties of the ANPF‐BDM/quartz fiber (Qf) composites were also investigated. The results reveal that ANPF‐BDM/Qf composites exhibit similar mechanical strength to APF‐BDM/Qf composites at room temperature. In addition, the mechanical properties of the ANPF‐BDM/ Qf composites demonstrated significant improvement in mechanical properties retained significantly improved at 200°C, with a 68% flexural strength retention and a 96% interlaminar shear retention of 15‐ANPF‐BDM/Qf composites. The study primarily focuses on the in situ synthesis of polystyrene (PS) and copper oxide (CuO) nanocomposites. An extensive analysis was conducted on the optical, thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of PS with different CuO concentrations. The effective inclusion of CuO into PS was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV–visible spectroscopy, filed emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The reinforcement of CuO into the PS was established through FTIR. The optical bandgap energy deduced from UV–visible spectra decreases with CuO addition, whereas the refractive index rises significantly with the addition of CuO nanoparticles up to 7 mass%. The XRD analysis revealed the amorphous to crystalline transformation of PS with the homogeneous dispersion of nanoparticles. The SEM–EDX analysis revealed the uniform distribution of CuO nanofillers in the PS matrix. The CuO addition considerably increased the glass transition temperature and thermal stability of PS. The tensile strength, impact resistance and hardness of nanocomposite were significantly increased with the loading of CuO in the polymer matrix. The AC conductivity and dielectric constant of the PS was improved with the addition of CuO nanoparticles. The effect of temperature on conductivity, activation energy, and pre-exponential factor was determined using the universal power law and the Arrhenius equation. The highest electrical and mechanical properties were observed for 7 mass% nanocomposite. The synthesized PS/CuO nanocomposites with excellent optical characteristics, thermal stability, electrical conductivity, dielectric constant and mechanical strength can be used in supercapacitors and flexible nano-electronic devices. In the present research, the impacts of Ce additions at various concentrations (0, 1.0, 3.4, and 4.0 wt.%) on the evolution of the microstructure, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity of as-cast and as-extruded Mg-3Sn alloys were investigated. The findings demonstrate that adding Ce caused the creation of a new ternary MgSnCe phase in the magnesium matrix. Some new Mg17Ce2 phases are generated in the microstructure when Ce levels reach 4%. The thermal conductivity of the Mg-3Sn alloy is significantly improved due to Ce addition, and the Mg-3Sn-3.4Ce alloy exhibits the highest thermal conductivity, up to 133.8 W/(m·K) at 298 K. After extrusion, both the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties are further improved. The thermal conductivity perpendicular to the extrusion direction of Mg-3Sn-3.4Ce alloy could achieve 136.28 W/(m·K), and the tensile and yield strengths reach 264.3 MPa and 227.2 MPa, with an elongation of 7.9%. Adding Ce decreases the dissolved Sn atoms and breaks the eutectic α-Mg and Mg2Sn network organization, leading to a considerable increase in the thermal conductivity of as-cast Mg-3Sn alloys. Petroleum-based food packaging causes environmental problems such as waste accumulation and microplastic generation. In this work, biobased films from stable polyelectrolyte complex suspensions (PECs) of xylan and chitosan (70 Xyl/30 Ch wt% mass ratio), at different concentrations of citric acid (CA) (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 wt%), were prepared and characterized. Films were treated at two temperatures (135 °C, 155 °C) and times (30 min, 60 min) to promote covalent crosslinking. Esterification and amidation reactions were confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Confocal Raman Microscopy. Water resistance and dry and wet stress–strain results were markedly increased by thermal treatment, mainly at 155 °C. The presence of 5 wt% CA tended to increase dry and wet stress–strain values further, up to 88 MPa—10% (155 °C for 60 min), and 5.6 MPa—40% (155 °C for 30 min), respectively. The UV-blocking performance of the films was improved by all treatments, as was thermal stability (up to Tonset: 230 °C). Contact angle values were between 73 and 84°, indicating partly wettable surfaces. Thermoset-based polymer composites containing functional fillers are promising materials for a variety of applications, such as in the aerospace and medical fields. However, the resin viscosity is often unsuitably high and thus impedes a successful filler dispersion in the matrix. This challenge can be overcome by incorporating suitable low-viscosity modifiers into the prepolymer. While modifiers can aptly influence the prepolymer rheology, they can also affect the prepolymer curing behavior and the mechanical and thermal properties of the resulting matrix material. Therefore, this study investigates the effects that a commercial-grade low-viscosity additive (butyl glycidyl ether) has on a common epoxy polymer system (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A epoxy with a methylene dianiline curative). The weight percentage of the modifier inside the epoxy was varied from 0 to 20%. The rheological properties and cure kinetics of the resulting materials were investigated. The prepolymer viscosity decreased by 97% with 20 wt% modifier content at room temperature. Upon curing, 20 wt% modifier addition reduced the exothermic peak temperature by 12% and prolonged the time to reach the peak by 60%. For cured material samples, physical and thermo-mechanical properties were characterized. A moderate reduction in glass transition temperature and an increase in elastic modulus was observed with 20 wt% modifier content (in the order of 10%). Based on these findings, the selected material system is seen as an expedient base for material design due to the ease of processing and material availability. Addressing the issue of carbon contamination during the smelting of specialty metals or alloys, utilizing graphite crucibles, has attracted considerable research attention, prompting the exploration of novel ceramic crucible materials. AlN ceramic, renowned for their exceptional high-temperature stability and resistance to corrosion, have emerged as promising candidates to mitigate this concern. Nonetheless, the limited mechanical properties and thermal shock resistance of AlN curtail its widespread application. In this study, Y 2 Zr 2 O 7 was introduced as an additive to enhance AlN's properties, and AlN-based composite ceramics were fabricated by employing pressureless sintering. The effects of Y 2 Zr 2 O 7 addition (3–10 wt%) on the mechanical properties and thermal shock resistance of the resulting composites were examined. The findings revealed that the incorporation of 5 wt% Y 2 Zr 2 O 7 (AlN-5YZO) led to the highest relative density and a refined grain structure, resulting in superior mechanical properties. Notably, the flexural strength, fracture toughness, and Vickers hardness of AlN-5YZO reached 322 MPa, 3.70 MPa m1/2, and 13.34 GPa, respectively. Furthermore, the presence of crack branching and crack deflection within the composite ceramics impeded crack propagation, effectively augmenting their thermal shock resistance. AlN-5YZO samples exhibited residual strength retention rates of 91.0 %, 84.2 %, and 76.7 % after 10, 20, and 50 thermal shocks between 1000 and 1600 °C, surpassing those of pure AlN. Multi-layered graphene and graphene oxide have been used as reinforcements in nanodevices and nanocomposites due to their extraordinary mechanical and thermal properties. However, compared to graphene, graphene oxide has a lower Young's modulus and lower thermal conductivity. Nanodevices and nanocomposites based on multi-layered graphene and graphene oxide require different mechanical properties and thermal conductivity. This study employed molecular dynamics simulation to investigate 10 models of multi-layered graphene and graphene oxide (in the form of different layer arrangements) in single, double, and triple layers. The results showed that an increase in the number of graphene oxide layers leads to irregularities in the nanosheets, resulting in decreased thermal conductivity (by 64.4%) of the nanosheets decreases. Furthermore, the greater number of graphene layers in multi-layer nanosheets resulted in an increase in Young's modulus (by 79.3%) and tensile strength (by 73.7%). Moreover, the arrangement of graphene and graphene oxide is a crucial factor that can significantly impact the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of the models. Moreover, an increase in temperature can lead to a decrease in Young's modulus of multilayered nanosheets. The novel plasma ageing technique has been used to investigate the effects of different treatment times of a co-polymer reinforced with montmorillonite nanoclay, where the effects of plasma ageing of the reinforced acrylic co-polymer (BA, STY and MAA) were obtained with nanoclay (sodium MMT) at different concentrations. The molecular weights of the samples were obtained by observing the change in the viscosity of the nonreinforced polymers, as well as an analysis of the thermal properties using the thermogravimetric analysis technique to determine their thermal stability, which showed an early decomposition of the exposed nanoreinforced materials to plasma concerning the reference sample 0 min. The differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed an increase in the glass transition temperature when adding the nanoreinforcement, but a decrease with saturation, likewise, it was observed that when adding this nanoreinforcement (MMT) to the polymeric matrix this protects the matrix when exposed to plasma. This acquires an increase in elastic modulus, which indicates a fragility in the nanomaterial. The structure of the nanocomposite was studied by means of the X-ray diffraction technique of the samples exposed to plasma treatment, obtaining patterns where intercalated nanocomposites are present. Biochar-based composites have proven to be the best solution to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of polymeric composites. This paper presents the biochar produced from Anacardium occidentale nut shell (AONS) treated with alkaline materials. Composites were developed using the solution casting method at different weight proportions of untreated and alkali-treated AONS biochar/vinyl ester resin (VER). Thermal properties like thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), and mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural, and impact. Electrical properties were carried out for the composites. DSC results showed the crystallization temperature of untreated and treated VER/15wt%. AONS composites are 13% and 19% higher than pure vinyl ester. Mechanical studies showed that treated and untreated AONS biochar/VER composite samples were increased significantly compared to the pure vinyl ester sample. More importantly, 15wt% of alkali-treated biochar-added composites obtained higher properties than the other composites. This study looked at the mechanical, electrical, and thermal surface conductivity of a polyester composite reinforced with flax fiber and thermally reduced carbon quantum dots. The primary objective of this work was to ascertain how incorporating carbon dots from thermally reduced biomass sugarcane bagasse enhanced the qualities of the polyester composite and resulted in its development as a sustainable material for cutting-edge applications. By pyrolyzing sugarcane bagasse, carbon dots were produced, and then hand layup was used to create the composites. After that, the effects of the addition of carbon dots were evaluated by testing the composite material in accordance with the American Society for Testing of Materials (ASTM) criteria. The findings demonstrated that increasing the amount of carbon dots in a polyester composite by up to 5 vol.% increased its tensile, flexural, and impact strength. However, the properties changed when the carbon dots content was raised to 7 vol.%. The highest hardness of the 7 vol.% carbon dots distributed composite, in contrast, was 82 shore-D, and its specific wear rate was reduced at 0.005 mm3/Nm. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss are both at their maximum values in the 7 vol.% carbon dots dispersed composite, at 4.1 and 0.15, respectively. This polyester composite also exhibits excellent thermal conductivity (0.394 W/mK), demonstrating effective heat transfer bridge development. Thus, these polyester composites with better surface conductivity (electrical, thermal, and hydrophobicity) and mechanical properties could be employed as a functional material for electrical and thermal applications. This study aimed to create a high flame retardant, load bearing and thermally stable epoxy composite for various engineering applications. To achieve this, cashew nut shell de-oiled cake derived biosilica and satin weaved sunn hemp fibre was utilized as reinforcements along with epoxy resin. The biosilica is prepared using thermo-chemical process, whereas the satin weaved sunn hemp fibre was made using hand loom. Furthermore, the composites were manufactured by the hand lay-up method and characterized in line with the ASTM standards. According to the results, the lowest value of combustion rate is approximately 11.93 mm/min for the composite designation RSB3. The addition of sunn hemp fibre and 3.0 vol. % of biosilica composite (RSB2) yielded a tensile strength of 164 MPa, flexural strength of 204 MPa and modulus of 6.21 and 6.82 GPa, respectively. It is noted that the thermal conductivity improved marginally when the biosilica is added into the composite. Furthermore, adding cashew nut shell biosilica decreases the specific wear rate of the composites. Such natural fibre composite with high resistances to heat as well as mechanical load and thermal stability could be employed in automobiles, industries making consumer and electronic goods as well as sports applications. In recent years, many different biomedical implants have been created for prolonged usage within the human body. The number of these implants has been steadily expanding. It is a common practice to use metallic bioimplants as substitutes when attempting to replace human body components in an anatomically acceptable manner. But the metallic bioimplant was mostly made biocompatible by putting a biocompatible coating on its surface and then using the right surface modification techniques. This was the primary method by which the biocompatibility of the bioimplant was achieved. Thermal spraying is a method that is frequently employed in surface modification treatments to modify metallic bioimplants. These methods can be found in the medical field. This is due to the adaptability of the thermal spraying method. Because of their capacity to respond and adapt to physiochemical circumstances, coatings that are based on hydroxyapatite (HAp) are the most popular type to be used in thermal spraying. This is due to the fact that HAp is a naturally occurring mineral. On the other hand, the majority of the HAp coatings are unsuccessful as a result of the coating’s weak mechanical qualities and insufficient adhesive strength. Supplying the coating in question with reinforcement in the form of hard particles and doing so in the appropriate proportions makes it feasible to alter the qualities of HAp-based coatings to fulfill a variety of requirements. This can be accomplished by providing the coating with reinforcement. The purpose of this inquiry was to deconstruct and analyze a variety of thermally sprayed (TS) coatings. These coatings were used to adhere HAp-based coatings on bioimplants. In addition, a detailed discussion is offered on how the reinforcements have an effect on the mechanical and biocompatible qualities of the coatings. Highlights This study investigated the effect of multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and reclaimed gypsum of varying contents on the mechanical properties and thermal stability of polypropylene (PP) composite materials. The results indicated that the incorporation of reclaimed gypsum and MWCNTs powder into PP composites could enhance the tensile strength, impact strength, and bending modulus of PP to a certain extent. The above properties of AGY/MWCNTs/PP composites were increased by 14.6%, 131.8%, and 36.2%, respectively, with the impact properties being significantly affected. Univariate analysis of variance revealed that MWCNTs powder and recycled gypsum exerted a significant impact on the mechanical properties of polypropylene composites. Moreover, the initial weight loss temperature of AGY/MWCNTs/PP demonstrated a notable increase, from 318.71 to 398.48°C, while the maximum weight loss temperature exhibited a comparable rise, from 406.85 to 461.54°C. The impact performance and thermal stability of polypropylene composite materials have been demonstrably augmented. A synergistic effect between reclaimed gypsum and multi‐walled carbon nanotubes in the reinforcement of polypropylene composites was demonstrated. Highlights Nowadays, non‐timber sources are of greater interest as they avoid deforestation and the pollution which occurs with cellulose obtention. An emerging alternative is using weeds such as windmill grass (Chloris spp.) to isolate cellulose since the plant grows in large quantities near crops or landfills used for farming. The present study aims to explore windmill grass as an alternative source of cellulose for applications as reinforcement in biopolymeric matrices. Treatment was conducted using the peroxyformic pulping method, varying the formic acid (FA) and hydrogen peroxide (HP) concentration to obtain an optimum cellulose extraction condition. The isolated celluloses were analyzed for chemical composition, yield, chemical functionality, crystallinity, and morphology. The optimum pulping condition (FA = 87.5%, HP = 3%) shows the gradual removal of non‐cellulosic components by microscopy. X‐ray diffraction analysis revealed a high crystallinity index (89.63%) with a characteristic cellulose type I pattern. To evaluate the reinforced effect of Chloris spp. celluloses, film formulations were made using sweet potato starch, glycerol, and cellulose at different concentrations (2.5, 5.0, and 7.5% w/w). The films' mechanical, physicochemical, and thermal properties were measured, and results indicate that adding cellulose fibers significantly improves these properties of sweet potato starch films, revealing further applications and non‐wood windmill grass added value with potential applications in the packaging sector. While improving the thermal conductivity of composites, single‐size carbon nanotubes (CNT) often degrade their mechanical properties due to the agglomerates. To overcome this limitation, this study reported thermoplastic resin matrix composites synergistically reinforced with small, medium, and large‐size carbon nanotubes (S‐CNT, M‐CNT, and L‐CNT). Using the thermal conductivity (λ) and mechanical properties (flexural strength [F], compressive strength [C] and tensile strength [T]) as the response values, we conducted 21 sets of mixing design experiments and developed the associated quadratic term models. Further multi‐objective optimization was carried out for the above response values. Optimized multiscale CNT synergistically modified composites (S‐CNT, M‐CNT, and L‐CNT contents of 1.25, 7.02, and 2.56 wt%) exhibited a λ value of 1.168 W/mK, which was 121% higher than that of pure composite and also superior to the same content of S‐CNT‐ (1.031 W/mK), M‐CNT‐ (1.016 W/mK), and L‐CNT‐modified composites (0.983 W/mK). Additionally, the optimized composite demonstrated excellent mechanical properties (F = 1482 MPa, C = 848 MPa, and T = 1759 MPa), which were 13%, 11%, and 13% higher than those of the pure composites, respectively, and also surpassed those of the S‐CNT‐, M‐CNT‐and L‐CNT‐modified composites. Liner materials have extensive applications in automobile industry, packaging, and aeronautics. One of the specific uses of such materials is in thermal barrier, coating rockets, missile, and other systems used in space and defense. Each liner material exhibits different properties according to their chemical structure and composition. In this study, accelerated thermal aging of the liner material, silicone‐hollow glass microsphere composite (SHGC) has been studied along with the determination of its life span. The effect of such aging on the thermal properties of SHGC has been studied using thermogravimetry. Activation energy of the process has been determined to be in the range of 45–55 KJmol−1. The results have been compared with already reported silicon polymers. Shelf‐life of SHGC composite has also been determined using Arrhenius model. Stochastic model has been applied to determine the lower and upper limits of shelf‐life. Shelf‐life of SHGC is found to be 24 years with 28 and 18 years of upper and lower error limits. In this study, graphene nanoplatelets were applied to polyester fabrics using the knife‐coating method at different concentrations (50, 100, and 150 g/kg). SEM, DSC, and TGA/DTG analyses were performed. The influence of graphene coating on hydrophobicity and surface roughness was examined by water contact angle (WCA) measurement and root mean square roughness, respectively. Abrasion resistance and tear strength tests were also performed. The effect of graphene used as a filler on the flammability of polyester fabric was evaluated for the first time according to the BS 5852 standard. No significant weight loss (only in the range of 0.4%–1.5%) was observed in the graphene‐coated samples even after 100,000 cycles. While the WCA value was 0 for the uncoated fabric, the blind coating and maximum graphene‐coated sample measured 86° and 95°, respectively. The coating process reduced the roughness of the base fabric, and the decrease continued with the increasing graphene ratio. The tear strength values that were 45.5 N in the warp and 53.6 N in the weft direction in the blind coating, increased to 52.2 and 59.1 N, respectively, at the maximum graphene concentration. Graphene coating enhanced thermal stability, increased hydrophobicity, and improved flame retardancy in the test using a smoldering cigarette. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have drawn extensive attention due to their exceptional characteristics and potential uses in electronics and energy storage. This investigation employs simulations using molecular dynamics to examine the mechanical and thermal transport attributes of the 2D silicene–germanene (Si-Ge) lateral heterostructure. The pre-existing cracks of the Si-Ge lateral heterostructure are addressed with external strain. Then, the effect of vacancy defects and temperature on the mechanical attributes is also investigated. By manipulating temperature and incorporating vacancy defects and pre-fabricated cracks, the mechanical behaviors of the Si-Ge heterostructure can be significantly modulated. In order to investigate the heat transport performance of the Si-Ge lateral heterostructure, a non-equilibrium molecular dynamics approach is employed. The efficient phonon average free path is obtained as 136.09 nm and 194.34 nm, respectively, in the Si-Ge heterostructure with a zigzag and armchair interface. Polysaccharides are an excellent renewable source for developing food-packing materials. It is expected that these packages can be an efficient barrier against oxygen; can reduce lipid peroxidation, and can retain the natural aroma of a food commodity. Starch has tremendous potential to be explored in the preparation of food packaging; however, due to their high hydrophilic nature, packaging films produced from starch possess poor protective moisture barriers and low mechanical properties. This scenario limits their applications, especially in humid conditions. In contrast, lignin's highly complex aromatic hetero-polymer network of phenylpropane units is known to play a filler role in polysaccharide films. Moreover, lignin can limit the biodegradability of polysaccharides films by a physical barrier, mainly, and by non-productive bindings. The main interactions affecting lignin non-productive bindings are hydrophobic interactions, electrostatic interactions, and hydrogen-bonding interactions, which are dependent on the total phenolic –OH and –COOH content in its chemical structure. In this review, the use of lignin as a reinforcement to improve the biodegradability of starch-based films in wet environments is presented. Moreover, the characteristics of the used lignins, the mechanisms of molecular interaction among these materials, and the sensitive physicochemical parameters for biodegradability detection are related. Difunctional glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) is an energetic binder promising for propellant formulations. The multifunctional fluorine‐containing GAP has been synthesized to enhance its mechanical properties. This work outlined multifunctional GAP partially grafted with 1,2,3‐triazole‐5‐(α‐hydroxyl)‐fluorinated polyether (GAP‐g‐3F) synthesized by thermal and catalyst‐free azide‐alkyne cycloaddition reaction, in which the azide groups were from GAP and electron‐deficient alkynes from β‐propargyl‐α‐hydroxyl poly (tri‐fluoropropane glycidyl ether) (PHP3F). PHP3F was synthesized via the typical cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐((2,2,2‐trifluoroethoxy) methyl) oxirane and propargyl alcohol as the initiator. The chemical structures, molecular weight, and thermal properties were characterized by FTIR, NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA, respectively. HNMR results showed that 8 % of total azide groups in GAP were grafted. GAP‐g‐3F had a slightly higher glass transition temperature than that of GAP. The results of TGA showed that GAP‐g‐3F had suitable thermal decomposition resistance up to 200 °C. The thermal properties, mechanical properties, cross‐linking network structures, and microstructures of the polyurethane networks cured with hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer as a crosslinking agent were determined and compared by TGA, universal tensile test, swelling measurement, and SEM, respectively. The initial decomposition temperature of GAP‐g‐3F‐based polyurethane networks (GAP‐g‐3F‐PU) was around 220 °C, thus meeting the requirements for propellants. In addition, GAP‐g‐3F‐PU exhibited superior mechanical properties, showing an almost twelvefold increase in tensile strength to 16.9 MPa compared with difunctional GAP‐PU with 1.4 MPa tensile strength. The results of the swelling measurement revealed that the GAP‐g‐3F‐PU sample showed a higher crosslinking density in comparison to the GAP‐PU sample. SEM results indicated that the multifunctional fluorine‐containing GAP could enhance compatibility between the soft and hard segments of polyurethanes, leading to a decrease in their separation degree. This finding showed that the synthesis of a multifunctional GAP partially grafted with fluorinated polyether via a triazole ring may be a promising solution to decrease the separation degree increase of PUs, thereby improving the mechanical properties. First-principles computations are used to investigate the structural, stability, mechanical, optical, thermal, and electronic characteristics of perovskite material. A novel RbBa 2 Ti 3 O 10 perovskite material is studied by using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) suggested by Perdew, Burke, and Ernzerhof (PBE) approach in the CASTEP code. According to findings, the compound structure is tetragonal in nature with a space group of 123 (p4/mmm), a lattice parameter, and a volume. RbBa 2 Ti 3 O 10 exhibits indirect bandgap semiconductor behavior, according to its electronic characteristics. The Kramer-Kroning (KK) relations are used for determining optical properties to observe light-matter interaction. Perovskites' mechanical attributes, including their ductility, compressibility, elastic anisotropy, modulus, and mechanical index, were assessed and assigned. The thermal properties of the compound are examined, including its density, minimum thermal conductivity, melting temperature, and Debye temperature. Polypropylene (PP) recyclates face limitations in their use due to lower qualities compared with virgin PP, resulting from contaminations and the mixing of different PP grades. In particular, their high melt flow rate (MFR) hinders their suitability for applications requiring low MFR, such as pipes. This study investigates the feasibility of producing low MFR PP recyclates from packaging waste. For this purpose, recyclates were produced exclusively from manually sorted extrusion blow molding grades and compared with a recyclate derived from a conventional PP waste stream. Different washing temperatures and recyclate production processes were used to study their effects on the properties of the recyclates. The main objective was to determine the lowest achievable MFR and the rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties of the recyclates from improved sorting. The results are intended to serve as reference points for the evaluation of future automatic sorting trials. The enhanced sorting resulted in an 80% reduction in the MFR and improved ductility, thereby extending the potential applications of the recyclate. The different washing and production processes did not have a significant effect on the investigated properties, except for a slight decrease in the MFR with hot washing and the omission of the pelletizing step. Biochar, a carbon‐rich biomass material has emerged as promising reinforcement and offers versatile applications and potential benefits in various fields, especially in fused deposition modeling (FDM). This study focuses on the development and characterization of groundnut shell‐derived biocarbon (GNSC) reinforced polylactic acid (PLA) filaments for FDM. The GNSC was synthesized through pyrolysis using a tubular furnace at temperatures 700, 800, and 900°C. Synthesized carbon was characterized using Raman spectroscopy, XRD, and SEM analysis. The results showed that the synthesized carbon particles were graphitic, spherical, and nanosized with an average diameter of 40 nm. The preferred biocarbon material, GNSC800 was selected for its high carbon content (98.25%) observed through EDX analysis. Composite filaments were produced with different GNSC800 loadings of 0.25%, 0.5%, and 0.75% using solvent casting and extrusion techniques. Thermal stability was evaluated using TGA and DSC, which showed improved properties with the addition of biocarbon. The mechanical properties and electrical conductivity were enhanced with the inclusion of biocarbon. The data were also validated using ANOVA and Tukey's test. Filament with the 0.5 wt% loading showed the most favorable thermomechanical properties exhibiting a 39.8% increase in tensile strength and a 17.5% improvement in tensile modulus. The strength of zirconium diboride ceramics was tested by three different methods, 3‐point flexure, 4‐point flexure, and compression. Nearly full‐density ceramics were obtained by hot pressing commercial ZrB2 powder with the addition of .5 wt.% carbon as a sintering aid. The thermal properties and hardness were studied for ZrB2 milled with ZrB2 and WC media. Based on phase purity and higher thermal conductivity, ZrB2 ceramics prepared from powders milled with ZrB2 media were selected for mechanical property studies. The strength in 3‐point flexure was 546 ± 55 MPa. The flexure strength was 476 ± 41 MPa in 4‐point bending, which was ∼20% higher than the previously reported value of 398 MPa for ZrB2 with similar grain sizes due to higher relative density and lower impurity contents. Compression testing was performed at room temperature, and the strength was 1110 ± 358 MPa. Finally, the fracture toughness of pure ZrB2 ceramics was determined by the chevron‐notched beam method to be 3.6 ± .7 MPa m1/2. The strength and fracture toughness values are higher than those previously published for ZrB2 ceramics and can be attributed to higher density and lower grain size. The strength‐limiting flaw sizes were comparable to the grain size, suggesting that porosity and impurity phases did not play a significant role in the strength of these ceramics. Highlights The study investigates the impact of cobalt ferrite (CF) concentration on the electrical, thermal, mechanical, magnetic, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of Epoxy/Graphene/Cobalt ferrite composite samples. This paper presents the novel impact of agglomeration formation using an increased CF concentration, which results in the  enhancement of electrical conductivity and slight decrease in EMI SE after 7% CF loading. The scanning electron micrograph provided a clear evidence for the formation of agglomeration with the increase of CF content. The amount of CF loading in Ep/Gr was varied steadily to achieve electrical percolation. The maximum tensile strength value of 21.6 MPa was observed for sample with 7% CF. The sample with 15% CF exhibited the maximum saturation magnetization of 7.5 emu/gm. TG‐DTA showed thermal degradation of all samples up to 800°C. The maximum shield effectiveness (SE), 16 dB was observed for sample with 7% CF in X band and 22 dB for sample with 10% CF in Ku band frequency range. The composites exhibited great absorption properties compared to reflection in both X band Ku band frequency range. These epoxy‐based composites are useful as cost effective EMI shielding material. This study investigates the impact of algae loading on the properties of PBAT/algae bio‐composites produced through a melt extrusion process. The integration of algae as a filler demonstrated a reinforcing effect on the PBAT matrix, leading to an increase in modulus with higher algae loading. Concurrently, the tensile strength and maximum tensile strain of PBAT decreased with an increase in algae content. The thermal stability of PBAT was affected by adding algae, resulting in bio‐composites exhibiting an intermediate behavior compared with their neat precursors. The optimal formulation is achieved with 20 wt.% of algae incorporated into the PBAT matrix. Bast fiber-reinforced polymer composites (BFRPs) are grabbing considerable research attention due to their assertive impact on the environment and excellence in biodegradability. Though BFRPs have excellent ecological performance factors, they also lack in some cases, such as lower mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties, due to the significant moisture absorption, minimal thermal stability, and inherent nature of bast fibers. BFRPs exhibit weaker fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion as compared to synthetic fiber-reinforced polymer composites, resulting in lower mechanical properties. Nowadays, a wide variety of fiber and matrix modification techniques are practiced improving the fiber-matrix interaction, which ultimately improves the mechanical properties. Among the fiber and matrix modification techniques, nanofiller integration is the most promising one. This study reviews the impacts of introducing carbon-based nanofillers, particularly graphene and carbon nanotubes (CNT), in diversified BFRPs. The influence of carbon-based nanofillers on the mechanical, electrical, and thermal behavior of BFRPs and their potential prospects are comprehensively reviewed. Rare earth silicates are promising environmental/thermal barrier coating (E/TBC) materials facing severe CMAS (CaO‐MgO‐Al2O3‐SiO2) corrosion. Previous studies mainly focused on the intrinsic properties of precorrosion coatings, but there were few studies on their CMAS corrosion products that play a crucial role in the performance of coatings in postservice stage. In this work, the mechanical and thermal properties of nine corrosion products between lutetium silicates and CMAS are studied using first‐principles calculations. Their differences of elastic stiffness are attributed to the different crystal structures and bonding strength. The T:O ratio is identified as a factor of the crystal structure for silicate products, and it has a good correlation with their elastic stiffness. Moreover, the divergences of thermal conductivity are dominated by three essential factors, that is, atomic vibration intensity, lattice vibrational anharmonicity, and complexity of crystal structure. Compared with rare earth silicates, six products, that is, the α‐CaSiO3, β‐CaSiO3, Ca2MgSi2O7, Ca2Al2SiO7, CaAl2Si2O8, and Ca2Lu8(SiO4)6O2, showing good damage tolerance and low thermal conductivities, are predicted to be advantageous to E/TBCs. These discoveries reveal the mechanical/thermal properties of corrosion products between lutetium silicates and CMAS and are expected to support the future researches on the performance of E/TBC in the postservice stage. Highlights The homogeneous dispersion of multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in a polymer matrix significantly affects the overall properties of composites. In this study, MWCNTs/epoxy (EP) composites were prepared using DeoxyriboNucleic acid (DNA) as a dispersant. The MWCNTs were uniformly dispersed in a phenalkamine curing agent and crosslinked with an epoxy resin matrix. The non‐covalent functionalization of DNA‐dispersed MWCNTs was confirmed by characterizing both the pristine and DNA‐modified MWCNTs. Additionally, the dispersion state and stability of MWCNTs in the curing agent solution were evaluated. Tensile strength and single‐lap‐shear (SLS) were employed to assess the mechanical properties of the composites. The results indicated that the DNA‐dispersed MWCNTs composites exhibited superior strength and toughness, with tensile and shear strengths of 46.81 and 19.64 MPa, respectively, at optimal ratios. These values represent increases of 68.38% and 50.96% compared to pure EP. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) revealed that the energy storage modulus of DNA‐dispersed MWCNTs/EP composites increased to 2722 MPa, a 24.7% enhancement over pure EP. Furthermore, the thermal properties of the composites were thoroughly investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that the initial decomposition temperature of the DNA‐assisted dispersed composites rose to 330°C. The macromolecular relaxation of the EP materials occurred at higher temperatures, leading to an increased glass transition temperature. DNA was used to disperse MWCNTs in phenalkamine curing agent. MWCNTs/EP composites were made by crosslinking DNA‐dispersed MWCNTs with epoxy resin. DNA‐dispersed MWCNTs boosted tensile and lap shear strength. To enhance mechanical, adhesive, and thermal properties of Room Temperature Vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber, a silicon-containing polyurethane/epoxy resin modifier (ESiPU) was developed. A three-phase system of polyurethane/epoxy resin/silicone rubber was prepared through blending, modification, and co-curing. FT-IR and 1H-NMR were employed to characterize the chemical structure of ESiPU. Microscopic analysis revealed improved compatibility between modified epoxy resin and silicone rubber. Mechanical testing showed significant enhancements in tensile strength, elongation at break, and adhesive strength, with RTV-20phr exhibiting increases of 236, 266, and 259%, respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated higher initial decomposition temperature compared to pure RTV. At the same time, the char residue at 800 °C increased to 8.67%. TG-IR analysis demonstrated ESiPU's ability to delay thermal degradation. Contact angle test confirmed improved hydrophobicity. Polylactic acid (PLA) composite serve as widely used filaments in fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing. This study investigates the enhancement of PLA composite's comprehensive mechanical properties and thermal stability through the incorporation of carbon fiber (CF). The influence of FDM process parameters on the mechanical properties of PLA composite is also analyzed. Results show that adding 5 wt.% CF significantly enhances the stiffness and comprehensive mechanical properties of PLA composite. The order of printing factors affecting the tensile strength of the PLA composite product is as follows: printing layer thickness, bottom plate temperature, printing speed, and nozzle temperature. Finally, optimal tensile strength is achieved under specific conditions: 0.1 mm layer thickness, 60 °C bottom plate temperature, 40 mm/s printing speed, and 215 °C nozzle temperature. Background: Hyaluronic acid liquid‐core hydrogel beads (HA‐LHB) is a good way for oral intake of HA. However, HA may affect the reaction–diffusion of sodium alginate (SA) and Ca2+ leading to poor mechanical properties, since HA is a polyanionic electrolyte having electrostatic effect and a certain spatial site‐blocking effect. Results: The mechanical properties of HA‐LHB were modified from bathing solution, core solution and secondary calcium bath time. The mechanical properties varied with the SA structure and concentration in bathing solution, where SA with high G (guluronic acid) segment compounded with SA with high M (mannuronic acid) segment at a mass ratio of 7:3 with a 11 g kg−1 concentration showed the best mechanical properties. The secondary calcium bath can greatly improve the mechanical properties due to the tight network formed by bidirectional crosslinking, and 15 min reaction reached the plateau if Ca2+ is sufficient. And the mechanical properties were positively correlated with calcium lactate concentration only at <70 g kg−1 in core solution, but the diffusion of Ca2+ was hindered by the tight gel network at higher concentrations. Moreover, the mechanical properties can be maintained during heat treatment, due to the rearrangement of alginate network structure. Conclusion: Our results suggested that the problem of poor mechanical properties of LHB in the presence of high HA concentration can be avoided by process control, which may broaden the development of HA and popping boba market. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Composites are fabricating by reinforcing waste bambara nut shell powder (BNSP) as a bio-filler into an epoxy resin matrix. The composite is fabricated by varying the mass fractions of filler in the range of 5–35 wt%. The effects of bio-filler content on physical, mechanical, and thermal properties are evaluated. The studies reveal that the tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength, and impact strength increased with increasing bio-filler content. The highest mechanical properties of BNSP-loaded epoxy composites are achieved at bio-filler mass content of 15 wt%, whereas hardness increased for 5–35 wt% with peak value at 35 wt%. The water absorption and thickness swelling of the BNSF/epoxy composites increased with increasing bio-filler contents, while the density decreased with an increase in bio-filler content. The TGA results revealed that an increasing bio-filler content decreased thermal stability, whereas the Tg and Tm of the composites increased with increasing bio-filler content. The melt quenching technique was used to prepare tellurite glasses with compositions 70TeO2–20BaO–10WO3 (BT:W glass), 70TeO2–20BaO–10Y2O3 (BT:Y glass), 70TeO2–20BaO–10SrO (BT:Sr glass) and 70TeO2–20BaO–10Li2O (BT:Li glass). The impact of modifying ions Ba2+, W6+, Y3+, Sr2+, and Li+ on structural, physical, thermal and mechanical properties of the prepared glasses has been explored by using XRD, DTA, and FTIR spectroscopic techniques. XRD analysis conformed that the prepared glasses are amorphous and homogeneous in nature. The FTIR spectra revealed the presence of TeO4 trigonal bipyramids, TeO3 trigonal pyramids and NBOs in the network of BT:Y, BT:Sr and BT:Li glasses. Meanwhile, the structure of BT:W glass is composed of TeO4, TeO3, WO4 and WO6 units, which are connected to each other through W–O–Te linkages. The glass transition temperature and thermal stability increased in the order BT:W glass > BT:Y glass > BT:Sr glass > BT:Li glass. These results were compared to those of binary 80TeO2–20BaO glass (BT) and pure TeO2 glass. Changes in the thermal properties have been analyzed and predicted by correlating them with the calculated molar volume, ratio of packing density to mean atomic volume, dissociation energy per unit volume, field strength of the modifying ions, average single bond strength, and elastic moduli. The R-squared values of the regression lines can be improved if the effect of all structural groups as well as the uncertainty inherent in experimental measurements are taken into account. The highest thermal stability and glass transition temperature of BT:W glass making it a good candidate for shielding material in the fields of medical, industrial, and nuclear applications. This paper investigates the effect of fiber surface treatment on various properties of hair fiber reinforced composites. Human hair fiber reinforced modified epoxidized soybean oil based composites were prepared by compression molding technique. Acid treatment of hair fibers was carried out by using three different concentrations of HCl solution (0.25%, 0.75%, and 1%, respectively) in order to achieve improvement in adhesion between the fiber and the matrix. Epoxidized soybean oil was modified using methacrylic acid and methacrylic anhydride to form methacrylic anhydride modified epoxidized soybean oil. Rosin acid derivative (a rigid comonomer) was prepared and used as a crosslinker. Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy was carried out to study the interaction among the components of the composites. Various properties, namely, mechanical, thermal, flame resistance, and chemical resistance were checked. Scanning electron microscopy of the fractured surface of the composites was carried out to examine the morphologies. Hair fibers treated with 0.75% of HCl showed maximum improvement in all the properties and could be employed as reinforcement in various composites to be used for structural applications. The present study explores the influence of Cobalt oxide nanoparticles(Co3O4 NPs) on the physicochemical characteristics of Poly(vinylalcohol)/ Chitosan (PVA/Cs) blend. Using a variety of techniques, the pure blend and the nanocomposites' composition, structure, optical, thermal, and mechanical properties, and antibacterial activity were characterized. The Co3O4 NPs were produced by precipitation method utilizing cobalt salt as the raw material. The crystalline nature of the nanoparticles and semi-crystalline behavior of the PVA/Cs are demonstrated by the XRD data. Adding nanoparticles to the pure blend reduced the intensity of the semi-crystalline. The rise in absorption intensity observed in UV-visible spectra upon the incorporation of Co3O4 NPs into the PVA/Cs blend indicates an improved dispersion of the nanoparticles within the blend. When Co3O4 NPs are added, the energy band-gap Egdir and Egind of PVA/Cs–Co3O4 samples greatly decrease. According to TGA data, the thermal stability of nanocomposites was significantly higher than that of the PVA/Cs blend, and it rose as the concentration of nanoparticles increased. When compared to neat PVA/Cs film, mechanical property investigation of PVA/Cs–Co3O4 nanocomposites films revealed enhanced features. The effectiveness of the PVA/Cs–Co3O4 nanocomposite films in inhibiting the growth of microorganisms was assessed by evaluating their antimicrobial activity (ANMAC) against a range of bacteria and fungi. The inclusion of Co3O4 NPs led to an increase in activity against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria as well as fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger (C. albicans and A. niger). The addition of Co3O4 NPs to the PVA/Cs blend effectively improved the material's optical, thermal, mechanical, and antibacterial properties. This remarkable improvement stems from the Co3O4 NPs, which were introduced into the PVA/Cs blend in different amounts, leading to the development of novel nanocomposites. In recent years, natural fiber-reinforced hybrid composites have been utilized in many applications because of their lower cost, biodegradability, and low density. The aim of this research is to convert crab shell waste into an effective reinforcement in jute/carbon fiber hybrid composites. Various weight percentages of crab shell powder (0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%) were used to prepare crab shell powder hybrid composites. The performance of the crab shell powder hybrid composites was evaluated by preparing the specimens to conduct tensile, flexural, impact, and hardness tests as per ASTM standards. The results show that the inclusion of 5% crab shell powder displayed a better enhancement in the properties of the hybrid composite compared to other weight percentages. The tensile, flexural, and impact strengths of the 5% crab shell powder hybrid composite increased by 21%, 52%, and 50%, respectively. Also, the hardness of the hybrid composite was enhanced by 33%. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests were conducted on the tensile-fractured specimen surfaces, and their morphology and structure confirmed the presence of a well-bonded interface between the fiber and matrix. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetry (TG) analysis have shown that the crystallization behavior and thermal stability of the composite were enhanced with the inclusion of crab shell powder. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered an advanced form of carbon. They have superior characteristics in terms of mechanical and thermal properties compared to other available fibers and can be used in various applications, such as supercapacitors, sensors, and artificial muscles. The properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are significantly affected by geometric parameters such as chirality and aspect ratio, and testing conditions such as temperature and strain rate. In this study, the effects of geometric parameters and temperature on the mechanical properties of SWNTs were studied by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using the Large-scaled Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS). Based on the second-generation reactive empirical bond order (REBO) potential, SWNTs of different diameters were tested in tension and compression under different strain rates and temperatures to understand their effects on the mechanical behavior of SWNTs. It was observed that the Young's modulus and the tensile strength decreases with increasing SWNT tube diameter. As the chiral angle increases, the tensile strength increases, while the Young's modulus decreases. The simulations were repeated at different temperatures of 300 K, 900 K, 1500 K, 2100 K and different strain rates of 1 × 10−3/ps, 0.75 × 10−3/ps, 0.5 × 10−3/ps, and 0.25 × 10−3/ps to investigate the effects of temperature and strain rate, respectively. The results show that the ultimate tensile strength of SWNTs increases with increasing strain rate. It is also seen that when SWNTs were stretched at higher temperatures, they failed at lower stresses and strains. The compressive behavior results indicate that SWNTs tend to buckle under lower stresses and strains than those under tensile stress. Due to the large increase in human population, the need for more buildings and other amenities is widening. Concrete is considered one of the most abundant and popular materials used in the structure and construction fields. It is known as a composite mix composed of cement and aggregates including fine and coarse and water. Despite its good properties, its capability to be formed in different shapes and its ability to resist severe conditions, concrete will struggle with the presence of extremely high temperatures. So, different types of concrete must be found to resist those challenging conditions. Refractory concrete can be considered a good choice to be used in places exposed to elevated temperatures and severe conditions. Mainly, refractory concrete is made up of ordinary Portland cement replacement well known as refractory cement, specific types of fine and coarse aggregates and are known as refractory or temperature-bearing aggregates and water. To the best authors' knowledge, review papers about refractory concrete are rare. For this reason, more than 65 papers were consulted including many recently published. This review describes the different types of materials used in refractory concrete. Furthermore, the different fresh, hardened, structural, durability and thermal properties of refractory concrete are also included such as slump, density, compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, ultrasonic pulse velocity, shrinkage, mass loss, porosity, water absorption, damage level and thermal conductivity. In this study, poly(l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLCL) block copolymers with an ABA structure were prepared using a two-step polymerization process, and their microstructures, thermal, and mechanical properties were systematically investigated based on the introduction of ε-caprolactone as a comonomer in the first step to form the B block. As a result, it was observed that as the content of the B block, or the ε-caprolactone comonomer increased, the average sequence length of l-lactide decreased, indicating that a potential impact on the crystallization behavior and thermal properties of the final PLCL block copolymers. However, the decrease in thermal properties, such as the melting temperature, was less significant than expected. For instance, the melting temperature of pure PLA in this study was 172.5 °C, whereas the PLCL block copolymer with 9 mol% ε-caprolactone comonomer had a melting temperature of 171.1 °C, showing a relatively minimal difference between the two samples. Additionally, as the ε-caprolactone content increased, tensile strength and initial modulus of the PLCL block copolymer slightly decreased, while the breaking strain significantly increased. This suggests that the two-step polymerization method proposed in this study is effective in imparting flexibility to PLA while minimizing its mechanical property degradation. Consequently, the introduction of comonomer such as the ε-caprolactone through controlled polymerization process offers valuable insights for developing PLA materials with diverse properties. A novel epoxy resin, DPHP, was synthesized from diphenolic acid, which contains biobased levulinic acid, with triethylphosphite, to improve the flame retardancy of bisphenol‐A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) epoxy. Curing experiments were conducted using isophorone diamine as a curing agent for BADGE and DPHP mixtures. Variations in cure kinetics, mechanical properties, and flame retardancy were evaluated across different DPHP contents. The introduction of phosphorus functional groups into DPHP affected the polarization of epoxide CO bonds, resulting in reduced apparent activation energy for epoxy curing reactions. However, the higher epoxy equivalent weight of DPHP compared with that of BADGE led to a decrease in the tensile strength and the glass transition temperature of the cured material with increasing DPHP content. A significant increase in char yield for combustion of the epoxy blend was observed, ranging from 8.3% at 0 wt% DPHP to 20.1% at 50 wt% DPHP. Additionally, cone calorimeter measurements showed significant reductions in heat release rate and total heat release, leading to a decrease in fire spread from 1.07 MJm−2 s−1 at 0 wt% DPHP to 0.43 MJm−2 s−1 at 50 wt% DPHP. Highlights The objective of this study is to improve the properties of polylactic acid (PLA), a biopolymer produced from renewable resources, without compromising its environmentally friendly “natural composite” properties. The aim was to expand the application range of PLA by making it suitable for the production of high performance composites. With this in mind, it was decided to use inorganic and environmentally friendly materials such as basalt fiber (BF) and boric acid (BA) as reinforcements. Adhesive wear and tensile tests were used to investigate the tribological and mechanical performance of the composites. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dimensional stability analysis (DSA) methods were used to investigate the thermal properties. Scanning electron microscopy analysis was also used to investigate the morphological properties of the samples. In addition, a matrix modification process using Joncryl®, an epoxy‐based chain extender chemical, was applied to enhance the interfacial interaction between the composite components and improve the composite properties by improving the dispersion of reinforcing materials. As a result of the characterization tests, it was observed that a significant improvement in the properties of the material type containing 10 wt% BF, 0.25 wt% BA and 2 wt% Joncryl® was achieved. A 19% increase in tensile strength of this type of material was observed compared with unreinforced PLA, while the sharp peak increase in the coefficient of friction (COF) curve was shifted from 20 m to 60 m. As a result, it has been presented that environmentally friendly and inorganic materials such as BF and BA can be used to produce composite materials that will serve sectors where the need and use of high performance materials is intense, especially in the automotive, aerospace and aviation sectors. The properties of PLA matrix composites were improved by the simultaneous use of BF and BA and the addition of Joncryl®. The structural properties of PLA, an environmentally friendly polymer, have been improved without compromising this characteristic. In this study, we successfully realized the hydrolytic ring-opening co-polymerization of ε-caprolactam (CPL) and lysine derivative. A novel antibacterial modified polyamide 6 with a branched structure was obtained after the quaternization of the co-polymers. The co-polymers exhibited a significant increase in zero shear viscosity, melt index and storage modulus at the low frequency region. The quaternized co-polymers displayed thermal properties different from pure PA6 and good mechanical (tensile) properties. The antibacterial activity of the quaternized co-polymers depends on the quaternary ammonium groups' incorporated content. At 6.2 mol% incorporation of quaternary ammonium groups, the strong antibacterial activity has been introduced to the co-polymers. As the quaternary ammonium groups approached 10.1 mol%, the antibacterial polymers demonstrated nearly complete killing of Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram negative).
