The article offers information on the ninth Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) conference held in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 2008. "Reference in Digital Environments" and "Education and Training in/for Digital Libraries" were this year's tracks. For the first three days, participants of the conference met at the Inter-University Center, and the last two days at the Hotel Odisej. Tefko Saracevic of Rutgers University and Tatjana Aparac-Jelusic of University of Zadar opened the conference by reviewing the short history of LIDA and the longer history of its topics. Kathleen Kern, Helle Lauridsen, and Caleb Tucker-Raymond all stressed the role of the user in determining digital library services.

Digital librarians, journalists, and computer scientists including Klaus Tochtermann, Kevin Anderson, and Robin Dresel discussed topics such as the impact of the Internet on information management, social media, and electronic books.

Information about the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) Forum that was held in Beltsville, Maryland, in December 2007, is presented. The forum is entitled "Getting the Most out of Your Institutional Repository: Gathering Content and Building Use." It is designed for vendors, librarians and consultants to discuss institutional repositories seven years after they were first developed. Participants include Dorothea Salo, Roger Schonfeld, Peter Murray, and John Erickson.

Information about several papers discussed at a forum on contextualized attention metadata (CAM) is presented. Researchers and practitioners shared their perspectives significant to attention metadata. Seth Goldstein, chairman of AttentionTrust.org, discussed the challenges and opportunities of CAM collection and management.

Information about several papers discussed during the 7th International Workshop on Web Archiving (IWAW 2007) is presented. Presenters during the forum provide updates on the current state of development on a range of open-source tools for Web archiving. Also featured are best practice reports and novel research results.

The papers presented at the forum focuses on digital library modeling. Geneva Henry of Rice University in Houston, Texas described the methodology adopted by the Digital Library Federation for generating digital library functionality.

Information about the topics discussed at the Independent Professional Development (IPD) Conference held at Bedford School in Great Britain is presented. Topics include challenging librarians to consider creating and managing virtual libraries, the difficulties of applying and maintaining a virtual library, and managing the wealth of information that a virtual library collects. The conference also featured Bedford School librarian Lesley Harrison as the conference speaker.
