This is performed in a perturbative expansion in the fine-structure constant and is broken down into pure QED, electroweak, and hadronic contributions. The pure QED contribution is by far the largest and has been evaluated up to and including with negligible numerical uncertainty. The electroweak contribution is suppressed by and only shows up at the level of the seventh significant digit. It has been evaluated up to two loops and is known to better than one percent. Hadronic contributions are the most difficult to calculate and are responsible for almost all of the theoretical uncertainty. The leading hadronic contribution appears at and is due to hadronic vacuum polarization, whereas at the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution appears. Given the low characteristic scale of this observable, these contributions have to be calculated with nonperturbative methods, in particular, dispersion relations and the lattice approach to QCD. The largest part of this review is dedicated to a detailed account of recent efforts to improve the calculation of these two contributions with either a data-driven, dispersive approach, or a first-principle, lattice-QCD approach. The final result reads and is smaller than the Brookhaven measurement by 3.7. The experimental uncertainty will soon be reduced by up to a factor four by the new experiment currently running at Fermilab, and also by the future J-PARC experiment. Abstract: Based on an integrated luminosity of 1.61 fb$^{-1}$ $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE, the Frascati $\phi$-factory, a search for the $P$- and $CP$-violating decay $\eta\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ has been performed. Radiative $\phi\to\eta\gamma$ decay is exploited to access the $\eta$ mesons. No signal is observed in the $\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ invariant mass spectrum, and the upper limit on the branching fraction at 90\% confidence level is determined to be ${\mathcal B}(\eta\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}), Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: The Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) has measured the muon anomalous precession frequency $\omega_a$ to an uncertainty of 434 parts per billion (ppb), statistical, and 56 ppb, systematic, with data collected in four storage ring configurations during its first physics run in 2018. When combined with a precision measurement of the magnetic field of the experiment's muon storage ring, the precession frequency measurement determines a muon magnetic anomaly of $a_{\mu}({\rm FNAL}) = 116\,592\,040(54) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.46 ppm). This article describes the multiple techniques employed in the reconstruction, analysis and fitting of the data to measure the precession frequency. It also presents the averaging of the results from the eleven separate determinations of \omega_a, and the systematic uncertainties on the result., Comment: 29 pages, 19 figures. Abstract: Based on a sample of 300 million KS mesons produced in ϕ→KLKS decays recorded by the KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE e+e− collider we have measured the branching fraction for the decay KS→πμν. The KS mesons are identified by the interaction of KL mesons in the detector. The KS→πμν decays are selected by a boosted decision tree built with kinematic variables and by a time-of-flight measurement. Signal efficiencies are evaluated with data control samples of KL→πμν decays. A fit to the reconstructed muon mass distribution finds 7223±180 signal events. Normalising to the KS→π+π− decay events the result for the branching fraction is B(KS→πμν)=(4.56±0.11stat±0.17syst)×10−4. It is the first measurement of this decay mode and the result allows an independent determination of |Vus| and a test of the lepton-flavour universality.

Abstract: The 3.4 σ discrepancy between the experimental value of the muon anomalous magnetic moment g-2 and the Standard Model prediction is one of the most intriguing indications of physics beyond the Standard Model. The MUonE project plans to measure the leading hadronic corrections to the muon g-2 by scattering high energy ( ∼ 150 GeV) muons off the atomic electrons of a low-Z target through the elastic process μ +e → μ +e. The angles of the incoming muons and the outcoming muons and electrons have to be measured precisely, to exploit the kinematical correlation of the μ -e collision. To reach this goal a modular target is foreseen, consisting of 60 low-Z (Be or C) elements, 1 cm thick, each sandwiched in layers of Si-microstrip detectors, organized in XY, XU and VY planes ( ± 45 °, to disentangle double tracks). In 2018, a feasibility test at the CERN North Area is foreseen, running parasitically on the beamline behind COMPASS. The setup consist of 16 layers with an area of 9.5 × 9.5 cm2, 410 μ m thick, single side AGILE silicon detectors, which have a readout pitch of 242 μ m and a floating strip scheme, resulting in a position resolution of the order of 40 μ m . The DAQ rate is of the order of a few kHz. The contribution will describe the setup, the DAQ system and the first data collected during the commissioning phase in April/May.

Abstract: The Muon g –2 experiment at Fermilab (E989) plans to measure the muon anomalous magnetic moment to a precision of 140 parts per billion (ppb), which corresponds to a total uncertainty of 1 . 6 × 1 0 − 10 . To achieve this level of precision the experiment must detect more than 1 . 8 × 1 0 11 decay positrons by using the 24 calorimeters distributed around the muon storage ring. Each calorimeter consists of 54 Pb F 2 crystals read out by SiPMs. The response of each of the 1296 channels must be calibrated and monitored to keep uncertainties due to gain fluctuations at the sub-per mil level in the time interval corresponding to one beam fill ( 700 μ s ) and at the sub-percent level on longer time scales. These requirements are much more demanding than those needed by most high energy physics experiments. This paper presents a novel laser-based calibration system that distributes light to all calorimeter cells, while allowing one to correct for laser intensity fluctuations and to monitor the distribution chain stability at unprecedented levels of accuracy. Results on the system performance during the first few months of stored muon operation in 2018 are also presented.

Abstract: The new Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab (E989) will measure the muon anomaly a μ = (g μ -2)/2 to an uncertainty of 16 x 10−11 (0.14 ppm). The experiment is running with a positive muon beam. The decay positrons are detected by 24 electromagnetic calorimeters placed on the inner radius of the magnetic storage ring. As the gain fluctuation of each calorimeter channel must be corrected to a few parts in 104, a state-of-art laser calibration system has been realized which provides short laser pulses to the calorimeters. The monitoring of these light signals is done by specific photo-detectors read by a specialized Monitoring Electronics, which is organized in devoted crates and performs the full data acquisition of the calibration signals starting from pre-amplification, then digitization and finally transfer of the information. Here we describe few key elements of the whole system, namely the single readout channel of the Monitoring Board.

Abstract: The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,143 new measurements from 709 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 120 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including a new review on Machine Learning, and one on Spectroscopy of Light Meson Resonances. The Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. Abstract: The new muon (g−2) experiment E989 at Fermilab will be equipped with a laser calibration system for all the 1296 channels of the calorimeters. An integrating sphere and an alternative system based on an engineered diffuser have been considered as possible light distributors for the experiment. We present here a detailed comparison of the two based on temporal response, spatial uniformity, transmittance and time stability.

Abstract: We searched for the $\mu^+\mu^-$ decay of a light vector gauge boson, also known as dark photon, in the $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma_{\rm ISR}$ process by means of the Initial State Radiation (ISR) method. We used 1.93~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the KLOE experiment at the DA$\Phi$NE $\phi$-factory. No structures have been observed over the irreducible $\mu^+ \mu^-$ background. A 90\% CL limit on the ratio $\varepsilon^2=\alpha^{\prime}/\alpha$ between the dark coupling constant and the fine structure constant of $ 3\times 10^{-6}-2\times 10^{-7}$ has been set in the dark photon mass region between 519 MeV and 973 MeV. This new limit has been combined with the published result obtained investigating the hypothesis of the dark photon decaying into hadrons in $e^+ e^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- \gamma_{\rm ISR}$ events. The combined 90\% CL limit increases the sensitivity especially in the $\rho-\omega$ interference region and excludes $\varepsilon^2$ greater than $(13-2)\times 10^{-7}$. For dark photon masses greater than 600 MeV the combined limit is lower than 8~$\times\, 10^{-7}$ resulting more stringent than present constraints from other experiments., Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Abstract: The absolute branching ratio of the K+ -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(+) (gamma) decay, inclusive of final-state radiation, has been measured using similar to 17 million tagged K+ mesons collected with the KLOE detector at DA Phi NE, the Frascati phi-factory. The result is: BR(K+ -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(+) (gamma)) = 0.05565 +/- 0.00031(stat) +/- 0.00025(syst) a factor similar or equal to 5 more precise with respect to the previous result. This work completes the program of precision measurements of the dominant kaon branching ratios at KLOE.

Abstract: We have searched for a light vector boson U, the possible carrier of a "dark force", with the KLOE detector at the DA Phi NE e(+)e(-) collider, motivated by astrophysical evidence for the presence of dark matter in the Universe. Using e(+)e(-) collisions collected with an integrated luminosity of 239.3 pb(-1), we look for a dimuon mass peak in the reaction e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-)gamma, corresponding to the decay U -> mu(+)mu(-). We find no evidence for a U vector boson signal. We set a 90% CL upper limit for the mixing parameter squared between the photon and the U boson of 1.6 x 10(-5) to 8.6 x 10(-7) for the mass region 520 < m(U) < 980 MeV.

Abstract: The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in particle physics and a persistent discrepancy of about 3 σ between standard model (SM) prediction and the experimental measurement has been observed. The leading order contribution aμhlo is actually the main source of uncertainty in the theoretical evaluation of the muon anomaly. It is obtained by a dispersion integral using the precision measurement of hadronic cross section. The KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE ϕ−factory in Frascati was the first to exploit Initial State Radiation (ISR) processes to obtain the e+e−→π+π−(γ) cross section below 1 GeV, that accounts for most (70%) of the leading order contribution to the muon anomaly. In year 2005 and 2008 the KLOE-collaboration has published two measurements of the π+π− cross section with the photon in the initial state emitted at small angle, and an independent measurement with the photon emitted at large angle was finalized in year 2011. These measurements were normalized using luminosity from Bhabha. In the last years, a new analysis of KLOE data has been performed for obtaining the pion form factor directly from the bin-by-bin π+π−γ to μ+μ−γ ratio. We present the results of this new measurement, showing the comparison with our previous measurements, and its impact on the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly.

From this ratio we obtain the cross section sigma (e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma). From the cross section we determine the pion form factor vertical bar F-pi vertical bar(2) and the two-pion contribution to the muon anomaly a(mu) for 0.592< M-pi pi < 0.975 GeV, Delta(pi pi) a(mu) = (385.1 +/- 1.1(stat) +/- 2.7(sys+theo)) x 10(-10). Abstract: In this paper we simulate the emission by charged particles in complex structures with help of Geant4. We take into account Cherenkov radiation, transition radiation, bremsstrahlung, pair production and other accompanying processes. As an application we investigate the full size electromagnetic calorimeter for the muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab. A calorimeter module (24 are expected in the experiment) consists of a Delrin front panel for installation of the laser calibration system, 54 PbF2 Cherenkov crystals wrapped by the black Millipore paper, and silicon photo-multiplier sensors. We report here on a simulation of radiation from positrons passing through the calorimeter system. We carry out the simulation using Geant4 toolkit, which provides a complete set of tools for all areas of detector simulation: geometry, tracking, detector response, run, event and track management, and visualization. We consider Cherenkov photons expansion when a positron moves down through the calorimeter at the arbitrary angle of incidence. Both spectral and angular distributions of Cherenkov optical photons in different parts of the calorimeter system have been evaluated as well as the transition radiation and pre-shower distributions from the panel and from the Al vacuum chamber of the storage ring. Abstract: The ratio R-eta = Gamma(eta -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma)/Gamma(eta -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)) has been measured by analysing 22 million phi -> eta gamma decays collected by the KLOE experiment at DANE, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 558 pb(-1). The eta -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma proceeds both via the rho resonant contribution, and possibly a non-resonant direct term, connected to the box anomaly. Our result, R-eta = 0.1856 +/- 0.0005(stat)+/- 0.0028(syst), points out a sizable contribution of the direct term to the total width. The di-pion invariant mass for the eta -> pi(+)pi(-)gamma decay could be described in a model-independent approach in terms of a(-) single free parameter, alpha. The determined value of the parameter alpha is alpha = (1.32 +/- 0.08(stat-0.09syst)(+0.10) +/- 0.02(theo)) GeV-2. 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE ϕ-factory has performed a new precise measurement of the pion form factor using Initial State Radiation events, with photons emitted at large polar angle. This measurement extends the M π π 2 region covered by KLOE ISR measurements of the pion form factor down to the two pion production threshold. The value obtained in this measurement of the di-pion contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment confirms the discrepancy between the Standard Model evaluation for a μ and the experimental value measured by the (g-2) collaboration at BNL. A combination of this new result with the previous KLOE results allow to cover ∼ 70% of the leading order hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly with 1% total fractional error.

Abstract: Final state radiation in the process $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-$ is considered for the cuts used in the analysis of KLOE data at large angles. By means of a Monte Carlo event generator FEVA, effects of non-pointlike behaviour of pions are estimated in the framework of Resonance Perturbation Theory. An additional complication related with the $\phi$ meson intermediate state is taken into account and the corresponding contributions (the direct decay $\phi\to\pi^+\pi^-\gamma$ and the double resonance decay $\phi\to\rho^\pm\pi^\mp\to\pi^+\pi^-\gamma$) are added to FEVA. Abstract: A measurement of the vector to pseudoscalar conversion decay $\phi \to \pi^0 e^+e^-$ with the KLOE experiment is presented. A sample of $\sim 9500$ signal events was selected from a data set of 1.7 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} \sim m_{\phi}$ collected at the DA$\Phi$NE $e^+e^-$ collider. These events were used to obtain the first measurement of the transition form factor $| F_{\phi \pi^0}(q^2) |$ and a new measurement of the branching ratio of the decay: $\rm{BR}\,(\phi \to \pi^0 e^+e^-) = (\,1.35 \pm 0.05^{\,\,+0.05}_{\,\,-0.10}\,) \times 10 ^{-5}$. Abstract: Neutral kaons provide one of the systems most sensitive to quantum mechanics and CPT violation. Models predicting quantum mechanics violation, also related to CPT violation, have been tested at the CPLEAR and KLOE experiments. In this report results of CPLEAR obtained by studying the time evolution of single and two entangled kaons are reviewed. New or improved limits on decoherence and CPT violation parameters have been obtained by KLOE studying the quantum interference in the channel ϕ → K S K L → π + π − π + π − . No deviations from the expectations of quantum mechanics and CPT symmetry have been observed.

Abstract: The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is one of the most precisely measured quantities in experimental particle physics. Its latest measurement at Brookhaven National Laboratory deviates from the Standard Model expectation by approximately 3.5 standard deviations. The goal of the new experiment, E989, now under construction at Fermilab, is a fourfold improvement in precision. Here, we discuss the details of the future measurement and its current status. Abstract: In connection with the design of the electromagnetic calorimeter of the KLOE detector, we have studied the performance of several samples of commercially available plastic scintillating fibers with a particle beam at the CERN PS. Results on light yield, attenuation length and time resolution measurements concerning 2–4.5 m long samples of those fibers are presented.

Abstract: Effects due to non-pointlike behavior of pions in the process e + e − → π + π − γ can arise for hard photons in the final state. By means of a Monte Carlo event generator, which also includes the contribution of the direct decay ϕ → π + π − γ , we estimate these effects in the framework of resonance perturbation theory. We consider angular cuts used in the KLOE analysis of the pion form factor at threshold. A method to reveal the effects of non-pointlike behavior of pions in a model-independent way is proposed.

Abstract: We present the first observation of quantum interference in the process ϕ→KSKL→π+π−π+π−, using the KLOE detector at the Frascati e+e− collider DAΦNE. From about 5×104 neutral kaon pairs both decaying to π+π− pairs we obtain the distribution of Δt, the difference between the two kaon decay times, which allows testing the validity of quantum mechanics and CPT invariance: no violation of either is observed. New or improved limits on coherence loss and CPT violation are presented.

Abstract: We have measured the cross section σ ( e + e − → π + π − γ ) at an energy W = m ϕ = 1.02 GeV with the KLOE detector at the electron–positron collider DA Φ NE . From the dependence of the cross section on the invariant mass of the two-pion system, we extract σ ( e + e − → π + π − ) for the mass range 0.35 s 0.95 GeV 2 . From this result, we calculate the pion form factor and the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly, a μ .

Abstract: We have searched with the KLOE detector for the P and CP violating decay eta --> pi(+)pi(-) in a sample of 1.55 x 10(7) eta's from the decay phi --> etagamma of phi-mesons produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at DAPhiNE. Abstract: We searched for evidence of a Higgsstrahlung process in a secluded sector, leading to a final state with a dark photon U and a dark Higgs boson h', with the KLOE detector at DAFNE. We investigated the case of h' lighter than U, with U decaying into a muon pair and h' producing a missing energy signature. Abstract: After reviewing the traditional way of computing the leading order hadronic correction to the muon (g-2) through a dispersive approach via time-like data, I will present a novel approach, based on the measure- ment of the effective electromagnetic coupling in the space-like region extracted from Bhabha scattering data. We argue that this new method may become feasible at flavor factories, resulting in an alternative determina- tion potentially competitive with the accuracy of the present results obtained with the dispersive approach via time-like data 1 αem running and the Vacuum Polarization Precision physics requires appropriate inclusion of higher order effects and the knowledge of very precise parameters of the electroweak Standard Model SM. One of the basic input parameters is the fine structure constant which de- pends logarithmically on the energy scale (1). At zero mo- mentum transfer, the QED coupling constant α(0) is very accurately known from the measurement of the anoma- lous magnetic moment of the electron and from solid-state physics measurements: α −1 (0) = 137.03599976(50). (1) Vacuum polarization effects lead to a partial screen- ing of the charge in the low energy limit (Thomson limit) while at higher energies the strength of the electromag- netic interaction grows. This is due to virtual lepton and quark loop corrections to the photon propagator. This effect can also be understood as an increasing pen- etration of the polarized cloud of virtual particles which screen the bare electric charge of a particle. Thus, at large distances, we observe a reduced bare charge due to this effect of screening. As we probe closer we penetrate into the cloud of virtual particles, decreasing the screening effect and observing more of the bare charge and thus a strengthening of the coupling The charge has to be replaced by a running charge

Abstract: The electromagnetic calorimeter for the new muon (g-2) experiment at Fermilab will consist of arrays of PbF2 Cherenkov crystals read out by large-area silicon photo-multiplier (SiPM) sensors. We report here on measurements and simulations using 2.0 -- 4.5 GeV electrons with a 28-element prototype array. All data were obtained using fast waveform digitizers to accurately capture signal pulse shapes versus energy, impact position, angle, and crystal wrapping. The SiPMs were gain matched using a laser-based calibration system, which also provided a stabilization procedure that allowed gain correction to a level of 1e-4 per hour. After accounting for longitudinal fluctuation losses, those crystals wrapped in a white, diffusive wrapping exhibited an energy resolution sigma/E of (3.4 +- 0.1) % per sqrt(E/GeV), while those wrapped in a black, absorptive wrapping had (4.6 +- 0.3) % per sqrt(E/GeV). The white-wrapped crystals---having nearly twice the total light collection---display a generally wider and impact-position-dependent pulse shape owing to the dynamics of the light propagation, in comparison to the black-wrapped crystals, which have a narrower pulse shape that is insensitive to impact position., Comment: 14 pages, 19 figures, accepted to Nucl.Instrum.Meth. Abstract: The Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) of the AMS-02 experiment is a lead-scintillanting fibers sampling calorimeter characterized by high granularity that allows to image the longitudinal and lateral showers development, a key issue to provide high electron/hadron discrimination. The light collection system and the FE electronics are designed to let the calorimeter operate over a wide energy range from few GeV up to 1 TeV. A full-scale prototype of the e.m. calorimeter was tested at Cern in October 2001 using electrons and pions beams with energy ranging from 3 to 100 GeV. Effective sampling thickness, linearity and energy resolution were measured.

Abstract: The KLOE experiment uses a fine sampling lead-scintillating fibre calorimeter to measure energy, time and position of neutral and charged particles. The overall detector consists of 88 modules organised in a barrel and two end-caps, for a total granularity of 2440 cells, read-out by photo-multipliers at both fibre ends. The chosen design of a high sampling fraction with the usage of thin lead layers and fast scintillating fibres allows to reach good efficiency for photon energies down to few MeV, good energy resolution and excellent time resolution. The design, calibration and performances of the calorimeter on efficiency, time/position/energy resolution and particle identification is reviewed. The overall calorimeter impact on kaon tagging and on physics results is also presented. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The potential of DAPHNE to explore direct radiative decay $\phi \to \pi^+ \pi^- \gamma$ is studied in detail. Predictions of different theoretical models for this decay are compared. We find that it should be possible to discriminate between these models at DAPHNE in one year, even assuming a relatively low luminosity ${\cal{L}} = 10^{31} {\rm cm}^{-2} {\rm sec^{-1}}$. The influence of the decay $\phi \to \pi^+ \pi^- \gamma$ on the measurement of total cross section $\sigma(e^+e^- \to {\rm hadrons})$ by tagging a photon in the reaction $e^+e^- \to \pi^+\pi^- \gamma$ is also discussed.

Abstract: We present a detailed study, done in the framework of the INFN 2006 Roadmap, of the prospects for e+e- physics at the Frascati National Laboratories. The physics case for an e+e- collider running at high luminosity at the phi resonance energy and also reaching a maximum center of mass energy of 2.5 GeV is discussed, together with the specific aspects of a very high luminosity tau-charm factory. Abstract: We have measured the ratio R ϕ = BR ( ϕ → η ′ γ ) / BR ( ϕ → η γ ) by looking for the radiative decays ϕ → η ′ γ and ϕ → η γ into the final states π + π − 7 γ and 7γ, respectively, in a sample of ∼ 1.4 × 10 9 ϕ mesons produced at the Frascati ϕ factory. We obtain R ϕ = ( 4.77 ± 0.09 stat ± 0.19 syst ) × 10 −3 , from which we derive BR ( ϕ → η ′ γ ) = ( 6.20 ± 0.11 stat ± 0.25 syst ) × 10 −5 . Assuming the η ′ has zero gluonium content, we extract the pseudoscalar mixing angle in the quark-flavor basis, φ P = ( 41.4 ± 0.3 stat ± 0.7 syst ± 0.6 th ) ° . Combining the value of R ϕ with other constraints, we estimate the fractional gluonium content of the η ′ to be Z 2 = 0.14 ± 0.04 and the mixing angle to be φ P = ( 39.7 ± 0.7 ) ° .

Abstract: We describe the method of measuring the integrated luminosity of the $e^+e^-$ collider DA$\Phi$NE, the Frascati $\phi-$factory. The measurement is done with the KLOE detector selecting large angle Bhabha scattering events and normalizing them to the effective cross section. The $e^+e^- \to e^+e^-(\gamma)$ cross section is calculated using different event generators which account for the $O(\alpha)$ radiative initial and final state corrections, and the $\phi$ resonance contribution. The accuracy of the measurement is 0.6%, where 0.3% comes from systematic errors related to the event counting and 0.5% from theoretical evaluations of the cross section., Comment: Submitted to Eur. Abstract: Effects due to the non-pointlike behaviour of pions in the process e+e− → π+ π− γ can arise for hard photons in the final state. By means of a Monte Carlo event generator, which also includes the contribution of the direct decay φ → π+ π− γ, we estimate these effects in the framework of the resonance perturbation theory. We consider angular cuts used in the KLOE analysis of the pion form factor at threshold. A method to reveal the effects of the non-pointlike behaviour of pions in a model-independent way is proposed.

Abstract: We have measured the cross section sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-gamma)) at an energy W = m(phi) = 1.02 GeV with the KLOE detector at the electron-positron collider DA Phi NE. From the dependence of the cross section on the invariant mass of the two-pion system, we extract sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)) for the mass range 0.35 < s < 0.95 GeV2. From this result, we calculate the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly a(mu).

Abstract: The discovery by the ATLAS and CMS experiments of a new boson with mass around 125 GeV and with measured properties compatible with those of a Standard-Model Higgs boson, coupled with the absence of discoveries of phenomena beyond the Standard Model at the TeV scale, has triggered interest in ideas for future Higgs factories. A new circular e+e- collider hosted in a 80 to 100 km tunnel, TLEP, is among the most attractive solutions proposed so far. It has a clean experimental environment, produces high luminosity for top-quark, Higgs boson, W and Z studies, accommodates multiple detectors, and can reach energies up to the t-tbar threshold and beyond. It will enable measurements of the Higgs boson properties and of Electroweak Symmetry-Breaking (EWSB) parameters with unequalled precision, offering exploration of physics beyond the Standard Model in the multi-TeV range. Moreover, being the natural precursor of the VHE-LHC, a 100 TeV hadron machine in the same tunnel, it builds up a long-term vision for particle physics. Altogether, the combination of TLEP and the VHE-LHC offers, for a great cost effectiveness, the best precision and the best search reach of all options presently on the market. Abstract: We report the results on the radiative decays phi --> eta'gamma, phi --> pi(0)pi(0)gamma and phi --> etapi(0)gamma obtained with the KLOE detector at the DAPhiNE phi-factory, using a sample of similar to 16 pb(-1). The value of the branching ratio for the phi --> eta'gamma decay is related to the s (s) over bar and gluon content of the eta'. A fit to the two-pseudoscalar invariant mass for the pi(0)pi(0)gamma and etapi(0)gamma final states gives the contribution of the direct terms phi --> f(0)gamma, phi --> sigmagamma and phi --> a(0)gamma, allowing us to investigate the nature of these light scalar mesons. Abstract: The main aim of the KLOE experiment at DA Phi NE, the Frascati phi-factory, is to study CP violation in the K-0-(K-0) over bar system. Requirements on electromagnetic shower detection, in the 20-280 MeV/c range, are very stringent. A hermetic, lead-scintillating fiber sampling calorimeter, characterized by a fiber:lead:glue volume ratio of approximately 48:42:10, has been chosen. Energy resolution of sigma(E)/E similar to 4.7%/root E(GeV) and time resolution of sigma(T) similar to 58 ps/root E(GeV) are the most significant characteristics of this detector.

Abstract: In the fixed energy environment of the $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider DA$\Phi$NE, KLOE can measure the cross section of the process $e^{+}e^{-} \to$ hadrons as a function of the hadronic system energy using the radiative return. At energies below 1 GeV, $e^{+}e^{-} \to \rho \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ is the dominating hadronic process. Abstract: A direct measurement of the gravitational acceleration of antimatter has never been performed to date. Recently, such an experiment has been proposed, using antihydrogen with an atom interferometer and an antihydrogen confinament has been realized at CERN. In alternative we propose an experimental test of the gravitational interaction with antimatter by measuring the branching fraction of the CP violating decay of K L in space. In fact, even if the theoretical Standard Model explains the CPV with the presence of pure phase in the KMC Kobaiashi-Maskava-Cabibbo matrix, ample room is left for contributions by other interactions and forces to generate CPV in the mixing of the neutral K and B mesons. Gravitation is a good candidate and we show that at the altitude of the International Space Station, gravitational effects may change the level of CP violation such that a 5 sigma discrimination may be obtained by collecting the K L produced by the cosmic proton flux within a few years.

Abstract: The stringent requirements of the KLOE experiment on dimensions, efficiency, resolution and transparency of its drift chamber led to building a tracking device which can be considered innovative from many points of view. Details of the design and construction of this detector, together with preliminary results from the test of its full scale prototype, constructed and operated under a test beam at CERN, are presented and discussed.

Abstract: The KLOE detector was designed primarily For the study of CP violation in neutral kaon decays at DAPhiNE, the Frascati Phi-factory. The detector consists of a tracker and an electromagnetic calorimeter. A lead-scintillating-fiber sampling calorimeter satisfies best the requirements of the experiment. providing adequate energy resolution and superior timing accuracy. We describe in the following the construction of the calorimeter, its calibration and how the calorimeter information is used to obtain energy, point of entry and time of the arrival of photons, electrons and charged particles. With e(+)e(-) collision data at DAPhiNE for an integrated luminosity of some 2 pb(-1) we find for electromagnetic showers, an energy resolution of 5.7%/rootE(GeV) and a time resolution of 54/rootE(GeV) ps. Abstract: The design and construction of the large Drift Chamber for the KLOE experiment at the Frascati φ-factory, DAΦNE, are described. The relevant aspects of the various elements of the detector are reviewed together with a description of the track reconstruction program and of the calibration procedures. The performance of the detector based on measurements with cosmic rays and with e+e− colliding beams during DAΦNE commissioning is presented.
