Kaedah-kaedah fiqh ialah prinsip fiqh umum yang menghimpunkan hukum-hukum permasalahan fiqh. Ia merupakan salah satu komponen penting dan asas sandaran ketika ijtihad dalam mengeluarkan fatwa. Mutakhir ini, pelbagai permasalahan baharu muncul ekoran daripada penularan pandemik COVID-19 yang melanda negara. Aplikasi kaedah fiqh pula dilihat antara instrumen yang terbaik dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut yang kebanyakannya kompleks dan keterbatasan nas syarak mengenainya. Terdapat beberapa pandangan hukum telah dikeluarkan oleh pihak berautoriti agama namun sebahagiannya telah dipertikai dari sudut keabsahan dan kerasionalannya. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis aplikasi kaedah-kaedah fiqh yang menjadi sandaran kepada pandangan hukum berkaitan pandemik COVID-19 dalam kertas kajian Jawatankuasa Muzakarah Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi Hal Ehwal Ugama Islam (MKI). Kajian ini berbentuk kualitatif menggunakan metodologi analisis dokumen yang merangkumi kitab-kitab klasik dan kontemporari kaedah fiqh, artikel penyelidikan dan kertas kajian yang dikeluarkan oleh jawatankuasa tersebut. Dapatan kajian mendapati beberapa kaedah-kaedah fiqh telah diaplikasikan dalam kertas kajian tersebut berkaitan isu pandemik COVID-19. Kajian ini juga diharapkan dapat memberikan nilai tambah kepada JAKIM dalam mengemaskini kaedah penyelidikan hukum di peringkat kebangsaan. It is one of main component and benchmark for the process of ijtihad in producing fatwa. Presently, there are a few of issues have risen up due to COVID-19 outbreak. The application of Islamic legal maxims considered among the best instrument in solving those issues meanwhile most of them are highly complexity as well as the generality of religious argument. The study attempts to examine applied Islamic legal maxims in producing fatwa relating to COVID-19 pandemic through the research papers of The National Council of the Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI). This is qualitative research using the methodology of document analysis includes classical and contemporary Islamic legal maxims books, research articles and research papers of the council. The outcome of the study discovers that numbers of Islamic legal maxims applied in the research papers of COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to determine the factors of online geography learning outcomes in class XI IIS SMAN 1 Samaturu. Learning outcomes' position was crucial and inseparable from the learning process. Learning outcomes can be used as an indicator of the success of the learning process. Low learning outcomes were a problem in the learning process, which is still developing, and solutions or factors that influence learning outcomes have yet to be found. This type of research uses quantitative descriptive. The subject of this study was students of class XI IIS, totalling 33 students. The technique used to collect data was a questionnaire. First, data analysis was carried out by giving student scores for each questionnaire item. Second, averaging student scores for all of these items, and third, determining student criteria. The results of this study obtained that the student's geography learning outcomes factor was the parental attention factor found in the indicators of giving awards, giving punishments, giving examples, giving guidance and helping difficulties and meeting students' learning needs. The last two indicators make a major contribution to low student learning outcomes.

The counselling profession plays a pivotal role and is often considered emotionally demanding. However, previously published studies on emotions at work have been limited in terms of research among counsellors. Hence, this study aims to explore (1) how counsellors perceive their profession, (2) how their work emotions come about when dealing with clients, (3) and what are the main job demands and resources of the counsellors. The current study employed qualitative research using a phenomenological research design. Individual in-depth semi-structured interviews with 44 registered professional counsellors in Malaysia were conducted to understand their experience of, and perceptions about, the counsellor’s job. Several themes developed based on the literature review, and discussions among the authors were made to see any disagreements regarding the selected themes. The team properly addressed any inconsistencies that arose. The first finding revealed that counsellors perceived their profession as a challenging occupation. As for the second finding, two themes were associated with the counsellors’ emotions at work: (1) positive and (2) negative emotions. Working conditions were the most recurring theme in the last finding of the study that influenced the job demands. In contrast, emotional support and professional growth were two job resources that helped reduce stress among counsellors.

Islamic education as one of the recognized scientific disciplines and has attracted the interest of the participants, especially for students who want to study it seriously. However, this field of study and discipline is not fast enough in its development, when compared to the number of other fields of Islamic studies. Even so, the portrait of Islamic education can actually be described in various perspectives. For example, from the educational perspective of Naquib al-Attas. This study aims to explore the educational concept of Naquib Al Attas in terms of the meaning and purpose of education, curriculum and educational methods as well as the authority and role of the teacher. The research uses a descriptive approach. This is done to be able to reveal the concept of education in Naquib Al Attas' thought based on reading related books and articles. The results of this study indicate that the thoughts of Naquib Al Attas tend to be selectively reconstructive which seeks to present an integrated Islamic education system. While in the Al Attas Curriculum seeks to integrate Science (Fardhu Ain and Fardu Kifayah), so the method used is the cultivation of Adab (Faith-Science-Charity).

Introduction: Many tools have been developed to determine medication appropriateness in older persons including the 2015 American Geriatric Society (AGS) Beers criteria and the Screening Tool of Older People’s Prescriptions (STOPP) criteria. We aimed to determine and compare the prevalence of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) based on the Beers criteria 2015 and the STOPP criteria v2 among older persons admitted to a general hospital in Malaysia. Methods: A cross-sectional study comprising of 160 patients aged 65 years old and above admitted to the general medical wards of a tertiary teaching hospital were recruited. Beers criteria 2015 and the STOPP criteria v2 were used to evaluate participants’ medication list on admission, during hospitalisation and on discharge for PIMs. Prevalence of PIMs which was calculated as the total number of patients with one or more PIMs over the total number of patients. Results: The prevalence of PIMs identified by Beers criteria 2015 on admission, during hospitalisation and on discharge were 54.85%, 64.40% and 48.80% respectively. The prevalence of PIM based on STOPP criteria v2 were 33.08%, 47.50% and 42.50% respectively. The most prevalent PIMs according to Beers criteria 2015 and STOPP criteria v2 were diuretics, tramadol, ticlopidine, proton pump inhibitor, benzodiazepines and antipsychotics. Conclusion: The prevalence of PIMs use is high among hospitalised older persons in Malaysia. While it is not possible to avoid all PIMs listed in the Beers and STOPP criteria, clinicians should exercise caution in prescribing drugs such as benzodiazepines, antipsychotics and proton pump inhibitors for older persons weighing the risk versus benefit of the drugs.

Rectal melanoma is a rare type of melanoma. Less than 3% of all forms of malignant melanomas with mucosal melanoma in the first place have been recorded. Low survival rates with poor prognosis are generally seen. Presentation of non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms results in delayed diagnosis and treatment. Rectal melanoma identified in a young man with signs that resemble spinal cord compression is not widely encountered. Mediscope 2022;9(1): 47-50

Background: Previous studies have shown that adolescents prefer less healthy food and their eating habits will affect their nutritional status in adulthood and old age. School canteen is a part of food retailing and provisioning that influence the diet quality of the adolescents. Healthy school canteen intervention is recommended as one of the public health strategies in supporting the development of healthy diet behavior. Objectives: To evaluate the effects of a healthy school canteen intervention program among middle school children. Methods: A mixed-methods research design including focus group interviews for teachers and principal, observation on school canteen, a survey for food handlers and food testing for hazardous chemicals. Thematic analysis of focus group data and descriptive analyses of survey data were conducted. Four schools were selected as intervention groups and four schools as positive control groups. Data collection phase took place between April 22 and May 2, 2019. Results: Only one school out of eight schools that had written commitment and a food safety team. In intervention school 50% of food handlers use personal protective equipment and 25% of food handlers received training. In the positive control group, none of the food handlers used personal protective equipment and they had not received any training. Food handlers in the positive control group have a higher rate of correct answers. Only 2 out of 4 schools in the intervention group had nutritious foods available in the canteen and 3 out of 4 schools in the positive control group. None of the school canteens were found positive for metanil yellow. Higher positive findings for Rhodamin B, Formaldehyde and Borax (33.3%, 60.0%, 33.3%, respectively) in the control group compared to the control group (28.6%, 27.3%, and 28.6%, respectively). Conclusions: Intervention groups have been slightly more successful in creating healthy school canteens, as they had a slightly better total score in the observation sheet compared to the schools from the positive control group. Collaboration with another stakeholder such as Primary Health Center (PHC) can be thought of as a solution to train food handlers about healthy practice while handling the food.

Since its development about 40 years ago (1981-2021), Morris water maze has turned into a very popular tool for assessing spatial learning and memory. Its many advantages have ensured its pertinence to date. These include its effectiveness in evaluating hippocampal-dependent learning and memory, exemption from motivational differences across diverse experimental manipulations, reliability in various cross-species studies, and adaptability to many experimental conditions with various test protocols. Nonetheless, throughout its establishment, several experimental and analysis loopholes have galvanized researchers to assess ways in which it could be improved and adapted to fill this gap. Therefore, in this review, we briefly summarize these developments since the early years of its establishment through to the most recent advancements in computerized analysis, offering more comprehensive analysis paradigms. In addition, we discuss the adaptability of the Morris water maze across different test versions and analysis paradigms, providing suggestions with regard to the best paradigms for particular experimental conditions. Hence, the proper selection of the experimental protocols, analysis paradigms, and consideration of the assay's limitations should be carefully considered. Given that appropriate measures are taken, with various adaptations made, the Morris water maze will likely remain a relevant tool to assess the mechanisms of spatial learning and memory.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in both developed and developing countries. Due to its heterogenous nature, it occurs in various regions of the body and often goes undetected until later stages of disease progression. Feasible treatment options are limited because of the invasive nature of cancer and often result in detrimental side-effects and poor survival rates. Therefore, recent studies have attempted to identify aberrant expression levels of previously undiscovered proteins in cancer, with the hope of developing better diagnostic tools and pharmaceutical options. One class of such targets is the π-subunit-containing γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptors. Although these receptors were discovered more than 20 years ago, there is limited information available. They possess atypical functional properties and are expressed in several non-neuronal tissues. Prior studies have highlighted the role of these receptors in the female reproductive system. New research focusing on the higher expression levels of these receptors in ovarian, breast, gastric, cervical, and pancreatic cancers, their physiological function in healthy individuals, and their pro-tumorigenic effects in these cancer types is reviewed here.

This research utilised the practise-based method of art focussing on the hero’s journey and his inquiry in the search for information and knowledge related to Hikayat Raja Pasai; a Malay mythological narrative, for the conceptual framing within phenomenology and methodology (practise-based research). Therefore, this research unfolds the creative process revealing the gaps in reading the narrative into drawing practise, animation making, and hermeneutic phenomenology method as an important instrument in practise-based research.

This research focuses on the Formulation of Regional Regulation Policy Number 3 of 2017 concerning the Riau Malay Customary Institution, Dumai City. This study aims to examine the process of formulating a Perda policy by the Dumai City DPRD and related institutions. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, in which the informants were determined by purposive sampling from various related agencies. The results of the study found that the process of determining Perda policies follows the direction of the prevailing laws, but the compilation process has not been carried out in a holistic manner, it is lacking in depth, especially in the phase of setting the policy agenda. In this context, it was found that the identification of the problem was not very deep related to the problems and peculiarities of the local cultural, customary and historical conditions. Apart from the Perda, there is also no clear framework for protecting, defending and fighting for the fate of indigenous peoples and local communities. Furthermore, in the drafting phase, it has not yet mobilized public participation, including providing public space and public discussions. In fact, this shows the openness in the formulation phase of the Perda. The interesting thing here is that the concept of the Perda in broad terms refers too much to the Perda of the Riau Provincial Malay Customary Institution. So it is advisable to clarify the concept and frame work "so that it is affective in achieving the mission and goals of the Riau Malay Customary Institution. This study concludes that the Perda is more oriented towards micro interests, namely internal organizations, besides the need to have a legal basis, it can also be used as a basis for obtaining grant allocation from the Dumai City APBD.

This study aims to identify parental attachment's effects on trainee counsellors' personality traits in the Universiti of Malaysia Sarawak UNIMAS. This research adopted a correlational research design. The respondents were 209 trainee counsellors from the Counselling Program, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak UNIMAS. Two questionnaires were used in this study: The Inventory of Parents and Peer Attachment (IPPA) and the Big Five Personality. The findings indicated a significant relationship between Parents Communication, Attachment and Extraversion and the Agreeableness Trait of Personality. It also showed a significant relationship between Parents Communication Attachment and Extraversion, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. We also found a significant relationship between Parents' Alienation Attachment and Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness. The study informs society about the need to increase awareness about the importance of knowing attachment styles and personality traits as both impact individuals' lives..

The research was aimed to study the relationship between attachment styles and marital quality between spouses. A total number of 52 spouses representing teachers from Sekolah Menengah Agama Daeratul Ma'arifil Wataniah 1 (SMA DMW 1), in Peninsular Malaysia's northwest coast, participated in this study. There were two sets of questionnaires used in this study: Experience in Close Relationship (ECR) and Marital Adjustment Test (MAT). The results showed that there was a significant relationship between attachment styles and spouses' styles. However, there is no relationship between marital satisfaction among spouses, and there is also no relationship between attachment styles and marital satisfaction among spouses. Future research is suggested to enhance the research by moving beyond self-report instruments to develop alternative methods of assessment as some of the questions should be more specifically suitable in Malaysian culture.

3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol esters (3-MCPDE) and glycidyl esters (GE) are processed-developed contaminants presence in vegetable oils after undergo refining process under excessive heat. Refined oils are extensively used in various frying applications, nevertheless, the reservation against their quality and safety aspects are of major concern to consumers and food industry. Realizing the importance to address these issues, this article deliberates an overview of published studies on the manifestation of 3-MCPDE and GE when vegetable oils undergo for frying process. With the modest number of published frying research associated to 3-MCPDE and GE, we confined our review from the perspectives of frying conditions, product properties, antioxidants and additives, pre-frying treatments and frying oil management. Simplicity of the frying process is often denied by the complexity of reactions occurred between oil and food which led to the development of unwanted contaminants. The behavior of 3-MCPDE and GE is closely related to physico-chemical characteristics of oils during frying. As such, relationships between 3-MCPDE and/or GE with frying quality indices - i.e. acidity in term of free fatty acid or acid value); secondary oxidation in term of p-anisidine value, total polar compounds and its fractions, and refractive index - were also discussed when oils were subjected under intermittent and continuous frying conditions.

The study aimed to establish the detection method for bound 3-, 2-MCPD, and glycidol using accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The ASE was modified for reduced solvent volume and process time to extract lipid from the chocolate spread, infant formula, potato chips, and sweetened creamer. The solvent selected for ASE was a mixture of iso-hexane and acetone at 100°C with the lipid and analyte recovery ranging from 96.9% to 98.6% and 84.1% to 107.5%, respectively. Due to its rich and diverse biodiversity of flora and fauna, Tasik Chini, a UNESCO Bisosphere Reserve, is a national heritage that must be preserved and protected. Ensuring healthy water quality here is vital for the survival of the ecosystem. Water quality was constantly being monitored through the use of a network of sensors and telemetry system that collect parameters to determine Water Quality Index since 2004. However, two events have rendered the setup to be inadequate: the economic activities around the lake and the big flood of 2014. Both events has proven that the IoT infrastructure at Tasik Chini is inadequate to mitigate major disaster. The risk of both natural and man-made disasters happening always increased yearly and has a huge impact on water quality monitoring as well as the dissemination and sharing of data and results. A proper management plan to mitigate these risks is needed. The purpose of this paper is to highlight a successful research methodology that has been proposed and done in monitoring and improving Tasik Chini water quality. First, needs analysis were carried out through face-to-face interaction with researchers and the indigenous community living within the vicinity of the lake. Historical water quality data were also compiled and analyzed to validate the degradation of water quality over the years. Second, a proper risk registers and risk respond plan was developed. The current telemetry and network of sensors were reengineered by introducing new online tools for sharing and disseminating of water quality data to more diverse stakeholders. Cloud and 4G services are now the integral part of monitoring. Third, an early warning system has been developed to complete the setup.

Based on the natural resource-based view theory, firms with improved environmental performance will have higher financial performance. Conversely, the neo-classical economic theory argues that improved environmental performance leads to lower financial performance. We argue that these contradicting findings are due to the political connection and treat it as the moderating variable to strengthen the positive effect of environmental performance on financial performance. Using carbon emission, spill volume, and total environmental fines as the environmental performance proxy, we only find that spill volume has a positive relationship with oil and gas companies' financial performance, supporting the natural resource-based view theory. Our results also show the positive effect of political connection on financial performance, supporting the helping-hand theory. Meanwhile, the moderating effect of political connection is only significant in weakening the negative impact of spill volume on financial performance. Practically, government regulation that bans the involvement of politicians in the boards of the oil and gas companies may allow firms to internalize the cost of the environmental damage, and could improve the environmental performance of the firms.

The Konawe Selatan District region is characterized by Karst hills, various soil types, and steep slopes. Functional classification considers the physical and non-physical characteristics of the location to determine its many uses. The map developed by the Regulation of the Agriculture Minister of Indonesia should be checked with the actual condition for the validation process before presenting to the society and Local government. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the compatibility of the area function map result with the actual conditions in Konawe Selatan District, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The research is a regional survey, collecting data from interviews and observations, and the data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively with percentages. The results show that the compatibility of the Konawe Selatan District area function map is 89.61%, functioning as a guideline in the land use plan. Furthermore, the map could guide potential land-use planning functions such as protected forests, limited production forests, rice fields, and settlements. In conclusion, the map is appropriate for disseminating information and material for land use policies in Konawe Selatan District to stakeholders. Peneliti menemukan bahwa motivasi berkaitan erat dengan keimanan yang mana iman ini adalah pengetahuan tertinggi pada manusia

Approximately 900 tonne of crude palm oil (CPO) underwent washing using 5 to 10% hot water (90 to 95°C) at a palm oil mill. The aim of the CPO washing was to eliminate and/or reduce total chlorine content present in the conventional CPO, as it is known as the main precursor for the formation of 3-monochloropropane-1, 2-diol esters (3-MCPDE). By a simple hot water washing, more than 85% of the total chlorine was removed. However, washing did not have significant (p > 0.05) effect on other oil quality parameters such as the deterioration of bleachability index (DOBI), free fatty acid (FFA) content and diacylglycerol (DAG) content of the oil. The latter has been established as the main precursor for glycidyl esters (GE) formation. The treated CPO was then transported using tankers and further refined at a commercial refinery. Refining of washed CPO resulted in significantly (p < 0.05) lower formation of 3-MCPDE, but GE content remained slightly high. Post-treatment of refined oil significantly reduced the GE content (p < 0.05) to an acceptable level whilst almost maintaining the low 3-MCPDE level. The study has proven that water washing of CPO prior to refining and subsequent post-refining is so far the most effective way to produce good quality refined oil with considerably low 3-MCPDE and GE contents. Dry fractionation of refined palm oil showed these contaminants partitioned more into the liquid olein fraction compared to the stearin fraction.

Sixty-four bottles of red palm olein and palm olein (constituted as control) samples were stored at permutations of common home setting variables which are: temperature (room temperature (24°C) or 8°C), light (kept in dark or exposure under light) and oxygen (opened or sealed caps). The effects of temperature, oxygen and light on the stability of red palm olein and palm olein were studied over 4 months of storage at simulated domestic conditions. The degree of auto- and photo-oxidations was evaluated by monitoring the following quality parameters: acidity, peroxide and p-anisidine values, fatty acids composition, carotenes and vitamin E. It is noted from the study that opened bottles of red palm olein was found to be stable for 4 months in comparison to its counterpart (palm olein) evidenced from their primary oxidative constituents (peroxides) and hydrolytic behavior (free fatty acids). Opened bottles are better off when stored at 8°C and protected from light for a longer shelf-life. Sealed bottles of palm olein showed better storage stability in the dark at 8°C; whereas sealed bottles of red palm olein was found to be stable at both temperatures studied without the influence of light. After 4 months of varying storage conditions, the fatty acid composition, vitamin E and carotenes of both oils remained unchanged. The phytonutrients in red palm olein rendered better storage stability when compared to palm olein.

The study was designed to evaluate the nutritive value, thermal stability and consumer acceptance of cupcakes baked with red palm olein compared to palm olein. Thermal stability was evaluated for acidity, peroxide, p-anisidine and total oxidation value (cumulative between peroxide and p-anisidine values), as well as fatty acid composition. The concentrations of phytonutrients including tocopherols and tocotrienols, alpha- and beta-carotene after baking were also determined. Acceptance of the cupcakes was assessed using a structured hedonic scale of five points by 29 panelists. As compared to initial test oil (red palm olein), acidity (red palm olein, 0.07±0.01% vs cupcakes containing red palm olein, 0.09±0.01%; P=0.0232), peroxide value (red palm olein, 0.33±0.05 meq O2 kg-1 vs cupcakes containing red palm olein 0.73±0.06 meq O2 kg-1; P=0.0011) and total oxidation value (red palm olein, 2.24±0.13 unit vs cupcakes containing red palm olein, 3.09±0.17 unit; P=0.0012) were found to be higher in cupcakes containing red palm olein, which is within the acceptable rancidity range (peroxide value < 7.5 meq O2 kg-1) for snack food category. No changes were found on oxidative parameters (acidity, peroxide, p-anisidine values and total oxidation value) in cupcakes containing palm olein. Cupcakes made with red palm olein retained nearly 100% of alpha- and beta-carotenes upon baking. Tocopherol homologues were stable in both comparisons, with 95% retention as compared to tocotrienol homologues (~85%). Cupcakes made from red palm olein received higher score (mean=3.29) in sensory evaluation as compared to cupcakes containing palm olein (mean=3.07). The study, therefore, encourages the inclusion of red palm olein in the formulation of bakery products.

The era of industrial revolution 4.0 is known as the era of openness that calls for the quality of human resources characterized by technological capabilities. Sophisticated technology results in a decrease in character for adults, including educators. Based on research from several regions in Indonesia conducted by UNICEF (2006), it was proved that around 80% were still prone to violence in the school environment conducted by educators to students. Based on the case above, the writer wants to give advice by creating child-friendly schools that are able to provide children's rights in order to be able to provide pleasant and comfortable services. This research was conducted at the Muhammadiyah Elementary School 2 in Berbah Yogyakarta. This research is a qualitative research that uses a phenomenological approach. In collecting data using the trianggulation method and reading related books. Based on the results of research to realize child-friendly schools in the industrial revolution era 4.0, SD Muhammadiyah Pajangan 2 Berbah applied. 6M, namely: 1) Cultivating 5S (greetings, smiles, greetings, courtesy and courtesy), 2) instilling Muhammadiyah pledges, 3) improving habituation (Riyadhoh), 4) improving infrastructure, 5) improving the quality of educators, and 6) terminating School canteen.

The existence of agroindustry in rural areas is expected to increase the demand for agricultural products and play a role in converting agricultural products into value-added goods. The purpose of this study is to determine the value addition and efficiency of the sugar palm agro-industry in Tinggo village, Tanggetada district, Kolaka regency. The data analysis method used is Hayami's value-added analysis and R/C ratio analysis. The results showed that the added value of sugar palm was Rp 1.750/unit, which means that the income of actors in the sugar palm agribusiness increased by an additional Rp 1.750/unit. And the value of the R/C ratio is 1.73, which means the palm sugar agroindustry is feasible to develop.

Cancer metastasis occurs due to the ability of the tumour to evade immune recognition and response by altering the major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC class I). A comprehensive understanding of the MHC class I alteration in breast cancer metastasis is vital for the rational design and improvement of immunotherapies for advanced cancer. In this study, we associate it with the elevation of 'neonatal' Nav1.5 (nNav1.5) mRNA expression in the aggressive type of human breast cancer cells. Using real-time PCR, lower expression of TAP1 (by - 4.83-fold), which is a part of the MHC class I antigen processing machinery (APM) pathway component, in contrast to the greater expression of nNav1.5 (by 3.76-fold), along with other metastatic markers, MMP1 (by 57.48-fold) and fibronectin (by 2.88-fold) in aggressive human breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB231 were obtained. Subsequent knockdown of nNav1.5 (by 52.6%) in MDA-MB-231 via siRNA-SCN5A resulted in downregulation of another metastatic marker, fibronectin (by 52.9%) but importantly, rescued MHC class I expression (by 347% or 3.47-fold). Furthermore, the siRNA-SCN5A transfected cells failed to form a unified spheroid and incapable of efficiently invading the surrounding invasion matrix. In summary, the influence of nNav1.5 in regulating MHC class I mRNA expression to allow for breast cancer invasion is demonstrated, supporting the potential of nNav1.5 as an immunotherapy target to overcome tumour immune evasion thus preventing metastasis.

Neurodevelopmental disorders are defined as a set of abnormal brain developmental conditions marked by the early childhood onset of cognitive, behavioral, and functional deficits leading to memory and learning problems, emotional instability, and impulsivity. Autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, Tourette syndrome, fragile X syndrome, and Down's syndrome are a few known examples of neurodevelopmental disorders. Although they are relatively common in both developed and developing countries, very little is currently known about their underlying molecular mechanisms. Both genetic and environmental factors are known to increase the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders. Current diagnostic and screening tests for neurodevelopmental disorders are not reliable; hence, individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders are often diagnosed in the later stages. This negatively affects their prognosis and quality of life, prompting the need for a better diagnostic biomarker. Recent studies on microRNAs and their altered regulation in diseases have shed some light on the possible role they could play in the development of the central nervous system. This review attempts to elucidate our current understanding of the role that microRNAs play in neurodevelopmental disorders with the hope of utilizing them as potential biomarkers in the future.

GABAA receptors are the major inhibitory neurotransmitter receptor in the human brain. The receptors are assembled from combination of protein subunits in pentameric complex which may consist of α1–6, β1–3, γ1–3, ρ1–3, δ, e, θ, or π subunits. There are a theoretical > 150,000 possible assemblies and arrangements of GABAA subunits, although only a few combinations have been found in human with the most dominant consists of 2α1, 2β2, and 1γ2 in a counterclockwise arrangement as seen from the synaptic cleft. The receptors also possess binding sites for various unrelated substances including benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and anesthetics. The α5-containing GABAARs only make up ≤ 5% of the entire receptor population, but up to 25% of the receptor subtype is located in the crucial learning and memory-associated area of the brain—the hippocampus, which has ignited myriads of hypotheses and theories in regard to its role. As well as exhibiting synaptic phasic inhibition, the α5-containing receptors are also extrasynaptic and mediate tonic inhibition with continuously occurring smaller amplitude. Studies on negative-allosteric modulators for reducing this tonic inhibition have been shown to enhance learning and memory in neurological disorders such as schizophrenia, Down syndrome, and autism with a possible alternative benzodiazepine binding site. Therefore, a few α5 subunit-specific compounds have been developed to address these pharmacological needs. With its small population, the α5-containing receptors could be the key and also the answer for many untreated cognitive dysfunctions and disorders.

Introduction Inpatient falls are associated with serious and life–threatening injuries in 4-6% of cases1. This includes Intracranial Injury (ICI). Imaging of the Head is required to detect and manage patients with head injury2; however there are no specific guidelines to facilitate utilisation of Head CT after Inpatient Falls. Objective The goal of this study is to review the utilisation of Head CT to determine rates of intracranial injury (ICI) following inpatient falls. Methodology This is a retrospective study of all patients admitted to the Medical Department, HKL in year 2017 who sustained an inpatient fall. The data was obtained from the database of the Falls Team HKL and review of medical notes. Results 152 patients, with an average age of (61.65±15.51) years were included in this study. Of these 94 (61.8%) were male, 85 (55.9%) were ≥ 65 years. 45 (29.6%) patients had a Head CT after inpatient fall. Median time to request for Head CT was 130 (IQR 30–582.50) minutes from the time of fall. Head CT was more likely in patients with Direct impact to head during fall (Adj.OR;4.71(95%CI 1.39 – 15.85). Fifty-seven (37.5%) patients sustained Direct impact to head during fall, however only 32/57(71.1%) had a Head CT as inpatient. Patients who had Direct impact to head during fall, were more likely to develop Giddiness (Adj.OR;5.96(95%CI 1.94-18.30) and Hematoma (Adj.OR;6.186(95%CI 1.59 – 24.03) after fall. Intracranial injury (ICI) was identified in 5/45 (11.1%) patients who underwent a Head CT. Patients with (ICI) had an average age of (74.00 ±7.906) years. All 5 patients were reviewed by the Neurosurgical team. Of these, 1/5 (20%) patient died during hospitalisation and 1/5 (20%) patient was discharged in a terminally ill condition. Conclusion Intracranial injury (ICI) was identified in 5/45 (11.1%) patients who underwent a Head CT and they were more likely to be ≥ 65years. Head CT was more likely in patients with Direct impact to head, headache, hematoma and confusion after inpatient fall.

Red palm olein is known to be high in carotenes and vitamin E (tocols) and possess various nutritional benefits. This study evaluates the effect of prolonged heating using three common cooking techniques i.e. deep-fat fryer, microwave oven and conventional oven, on the profiles of carotenes and tocols as well as the physico-chemical changes occurring in red palm olein when compared to conventional palm olein. Physico-chemical changes in all oils were gauged based on their peroxide, p-anisidine and total oxidation values, acidity, and fatty acid composition. Both red palm olein and palm olein were thermally stable based on their lower rate of hydrolytic and oxidative degradations as well as higher tocols retention, which allow the oils to undergo heating up to 3 hours using deep-fat fryer and conventional oven. Nevertheless, red palm olein seemed not suitable for prolonged heating processes considering lower retention of carotenes. Microwave heating also influenced the stability of phytonutrients.

This study was conducted to investigate on the effect of different sampling regions of palm-refined oils and fats on the 2- and 3-monochloropropanediol fatty acid esters (MCPDE) and glycidol fatty acid esters (GE) levels. The American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS) Official Method Cd 29a-13 on the determination of MCPDE and GE in edible oils and fats by acid transesterification was successfully verified and optimised, with slight modification using 7890A Agilent GC system equipped with 5975C quadrupole detector. The determined limits of detection (LOD) for MCPDE were 0.02 mg kg-1 and 0.05 mg kg-1 for GE. The method performance has showed good recovery between 80% and 120% for all pertinent compounds with seven replicates assayed in three separate days. Round robin test with two European laboratories, i.e. Eurofins and SGS, has shown compliance results with those of the present study. Among the sampling regions, only one refinery located in the central region of Malaysia showed a significant increment of the MCPDE and GE levels after refining process. The GE level averaging at 2.5 mg kg-1 was slightly higher than that of 3-MCPDE averaging at 1.3 mg kg-1. Both esters were preferentially partitioned into the liquid phase rather than the solid phase after fractionation. However, the overall results exhibited no direct correlation between the esters content and the different sampling locations of the palm oil products in Malaysia. Analysis of total chlorine content also displayed significant variations between sampling locations which clearly show its effect on the chlorine content in the CPO samples.

Background Nursing education in Iran has conventionally focused on lecture-based strategies. Improvements in teaching and learning over the years have led to an expansion of the pedagogies available to educators. Likewise, there has been a suggestion for a move toward more learner-centered teaching strategies and pedagogies that can result in improvement in learning. This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of Problem-Based Learning in developing cognitive skills in learning Pediatric Nursing among university students. Methods In this quasi-experimental, posttest-only nonequivalent control group design, the subjects were undergraduate students who had enrolled in Pediatric Nursing II at Islamic Azad University in Iran. The experiment was conducted over a period of eight weeks, one two-hour session and two two-hour sessions. Two experimental groups, Pure Problem-Based Learning (PPBL) and the Hybrid Problem- Based Learning (HPBL), and one Lecturing or Conventional Teaching and Learning (COTL) group were involved. In the PPBL group, PBL method with guided questions and a tutor, and in the HPBL group, problem-based learning method, some guided questions, minimal lecturing and a tutor were used. The COTL group, however, underwent learning using conventional instruction utilizing full lecture. The three groups were compared on cognitive performances, namely, test performance, mental effort, and instructional efficiency. Two instruments, i.e., Pediatric Nursing Performance Test (PNPT) and Paas Mental Effort Rating Scale (PMER) were used. In addition, the two-Dimensional Instructional Efficiency Index (IEI) formula was utilized. The statistical analyses used were ANOVA, ANCOVA, and mixed between-within subjects ANOVA. Introduction Falls among hospital inpatients are common, generally ranging from 2.3 to 7 falls per 1000 patient bed days1. Around 30% of falls as inpatient are injurious2. Falls are associated with a longer length of stay in hospital and greater utilization of healthcare facilities3. Objective The goal of this study is to describe patient characteristics, circumstances of fall and clinical outcomes after inpatient fall Methodology This is a retrospective, descriptive study of all patients admitted to the Medical Department in year 2017 who sustained an inpatient fall. The data was obtained from the database of the Falls Team HKL. Results 162 patients, with an average age of (61.82±15.50) years were included in this study. Of these, 103(63.58%) were male and 74(45.68%) were ≥65 years. 120(74.1%) were walking unaided prior to admission. 146(90.1%) patients were admitted with an acute medical illness and 13(8.0%) with an acute fall. Median time to first fall was 5(IQR 3-8) days after admission. 160(98.77%) falls occurred in the ward. 79(48.77%) falls occurred between 9:00pm to 6:59am. 75(46.3%) patients fell near their bed and 56(34.6%) fell in the toilet. 47(29.01%) had an injurious fall; 32(19.7%) had minor injury, 9(5.6%) had moderate injury and 6(3.7%) had severe injury. Patients with injurious falls were more likely to have “Direct Impact to Head” during fall [OR; 12.73 (95%CI 5.62 – 28.82)]. They were also more likely to have a Head CT after fall [(OR; 6.41 (95%CI 3.02 – 13.62)]. 18(11.1%) patients died during hospitalisation. Median time to death was 9(IQR 4-16.25) days after fall. 144(88.9%) patients were discharged alive at median 6(IQR 3.75 – 9.25) days after fall. Upon discharge, only 49(30.2%) patients were walking unaided. Conclusion Inpatient falls affects patients of all age groups, regardless of gender. Our data shows that Inpatient falls can cause increased morbidity due to falls related injuries; however, there is no difference in age, gender, length of stay or death as inpatient between patients with injurious and non-injurious falls.

Chemical stabilizers especially calcium based stabilizer, namely lime and cement had been widely used to modify and stabilize the soil. Extensive studies were carried out by researchers to improve the effectiveness and cost-benefit of stabilizers by introducing various types of blended lime and cement. Unconfined compressive test (UCT), one of the most simple and quick strength tests, is commonly used by researchers to indicate the suitability and successfulness of newly introduced stabilizer. The aim of this study is to establish the relationship and correlation of unconfined compressive strength and tangent modulus, E at 50% of unconfined compressive strength of artificial organic soil admixed with lime zeolite. Two types of artificial organic soils, which named as Type A and Type B were prepared manually by mixing commercial kaolin with humic acid powder in different percentages. The artificial organic soils were admixed with blended lime zeolite in different ratio and cured for 7, 28 and 56 days in an oven with controlled temperature of 50°c. The strength of the materials were determined by compressing the specimens using a UCT testing frame and the tangent modulus, E50 were calculated by plotting a linear slope at 50% of ultimate strength over stress-strain curve. The findings of the study showed that the strength and E50 are strongly correlated and important as the indicator of rigidity of the material as well as its capability to resist compressive load.

Comparative frying studies on the processing of extruded product were conducted under intermittent and continuous frying conditions using two separate frying systems, i.e batch and pilot scale continuous fryers, respectively. Thermal resistance of palm olein were assessed for a total of 5 days of frying operation at 155°C - the unconventional frying temperature gave the product moisture content of 3% after intermittent and continuous frying for 2.5 min and 2 min, respectively. The formation of free fatty acid in palm olein in the case of intermittent frying was more than 2-fold higher compared to its counterpart (0.66%). Smoke point inversely evolved with oil acidity: the value dropped progressively from 215 to 177°C and from 219 to 188°C when extruded product was intermittently and continuously fried, respectively. In the light of induction period, repeated frying exhibited a gradual decrease in the value after 5 days of frying (12.2 h). Interestingly, continuous frying gave somewhat similar induction period, as demonstrated by fresh palm olein, across frying time. Frying at lower temperature, to some extent, provides opportunity for palm olein to retain 74% of its initial vitamin E during continuous frying. This benefit, however, is somehow denied when extruded product was processed under intermittent frying conditions--only 27% of vitamin E was remained at the end of frying session. Regardless of frying protocols, transient in polar compounds was minimal and hence comparable. The colour in the case of continuous frying appeared to be darker due to higher degree of oil utilisation for frying. The data obtained will provide useful information for food processors on how palm olein behaves when frying is undertaken under different frying protocols.

MultipurposeAmphibiousVehicles(MAV)and other blunt-shaped floating vehicles encounter the problem of a large bow wave forming at high speeds. This wave formation is accompanied by higher resistance and at a critical speed results in bow submergence or swamping. Three new shapes of hull bow design for the multipurpose amphibious vehicle were conducted at several speeds to investigate the hydrodynamic phenomena using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD, RANS code) which is applied by Ansys-CFX14.0 and Maxsurf. The vehicle’s hydrodynamic bow shapes were able to break up induced waves and avoid swamping. Comparative results with the vehicle fitted with U-shape, V-shape and Flat-shape of hull bow, showed that the U-shape of the hull bow has reduced the total resistance to 20.3% and 13.6% compared with the V-shape and flat shape respectively. Though, the U-shape of hull bow is capable to increase the amphibious operating life and speed of vehicle. Also it has ability to reduce the vehicle’s required power, fossil fuel consumption and wetted hull surface.

The soil-contaminated areas can be cleaned-up by the emerging science and technology of bioremediation. This study aims to investigate the survival of Pseudomonas putida (P. putida) as biodegradable agent in soil contaminated with biodiesel/diesel blends (B5). The spillage simulation of B5 was conducted at laboratory scale for 24 days of treatment. The results show that contamination of biodiesel/diesel blends in soil induced a reduction growth of P. putida. The growth of P. putida was measured high in control compared to B5 sample proved the inhibitory effect has occurred. Nevertheless, the P. putida colonies counts for sample B5 were persisted high until the end of treatment period at 5.0 x106 CFU/ml. P. putida is very sensitive to any ecosystem perturbation therefore this study notably serves as necessary information and potentially exploits as a useful oil-soil biodegradable agent in soil bioremediation.

Lime, a traditional calcium based stabilizer, had been widely used in chemical stabilization to improve the strength of soil. Past researches had shown that the major reaction product of lime and soil such as Calcium Silicate Hydrate (CSH) was formed abundantly under the observation of microscopic studies. However, sometimes it will be quite difficult to confirm the existence of CSH phase if solely based on its needle like structures, especially when other rod like structures will also exist. Practically, the recognition of the CSH phase by using XRD spectrum through matching with published data had speed up the process of identification. If the method is viable, then theoretically, the molecular weight ratio of silica and calcium, S/C of CSH gel is specific and can be determined based on its possible chemical compound. Hence, this study was carried out in an attempt to examine the possibility use of its S/C ratio as a quick method to confirm the existence of CSH gel. Two types of artificial organic soils were formed by admixing kaolin (inorganic matter) and humic acid (organic matter) with the ratio of 7:3 and 5:5. Four types of admixtures with different percentages ratio of lime and zeolite (a kind of pozzolan) were used to stabilize the soils. The specimens were cured at elevated temperature of 50°c in order to accelerate the development of reaction products. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope with attached Energy Dispersive Analyzer (FESEM-EDX) was utilized to observe and determine the existence of reaction products and its bulk chemical composition. The S/C ratio of needle like structures were determined and it is found that the S/C ratio fluctuates and varies significantly from one specimen to another. It is believed that due to the limitations of the experimental setup, the EDX analysis can only serve as semi-quantitative and act as a reference guide on the existence of element. Despite of its limitations, the EDX analysis is useful in distinguish the CSH from other structure which is physically un-identical.

Johore, the southern part of west peninsular Malaysia is found to be rich in peat soil, especially at the Pontian & Batu Pahat district. The physico-chemical properties of the peat soil at the region had been extensively studied by various researches but limited studies were based on the interface layer of peat soil and non organic soil. The behaviour of the interface layer soil is believed to be governed by its organic matter content. Three locations of Batu Pahat, namely Parit Nipah, Parit Sidek & Batu Puteh which are difference in terms of geography setting were chosen in this case study. The main objective of this study is to characterize the geochemistry properties of the organic soil as a guide of its engineering behaviour. The soil specimens were collected using peat auger and undisturbed sampler. The organic contents and types of organic were determined in laboratory based on Loss on Ignition at 440c, carbon content and its molecular functional group. The pH, sulphate content, chloride content and cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the organic soil were also determined as a guide of its potential stabilization by using chemical stabilizer. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) were utilized to determine the bulk chemical composition of the soil and its functional group, respectively. The findings of this study are expected to give a better overview of organic soil which enable designer to have a better understanding when dealing with this kind of material.

Extending the frying-life of oils is of commercial and economic importance. Due to this fact, assessment on the thermal stability of frying oils could provide considerable savings to the food processors. In this study, the physico-chemical properties of five palm products mainly palm oil, single-fractionated palm olein, double-fractionated palm olein, red palm olein and palm-based shortening during 80 hours of heating at 180 degrees C were investigated. Heating properties of these products were then compared with that of high oleic sunflower oil, which was used as reference oil. The indices applied in evaluating the quality changes of oils were free fatty acid, smoke point, p-anisidine value, tocols, polar and polymer compounds. Three palm products i.e. palm oil, single-fractionated palm olein and double-fractionated palm olein were identified to be the most stable in terms of lower formation of free fatty acid, polar and polymer compounds as well as preserving higher smoke point and tocols content compared to the other three oils. The low intensity of hydrolytic and oxidative changes due to prolonged heating, suggests that these palm products are inherently suitable for frying purposes.

This paper attempts to present the social issues and fading identity problem faced by the Sikh community in Malaysia. Past studies show that there are no significant researches done specifically to identify the negative elements of the community issues. Several studies done mainly focussing the Sikh identity and language issues without relating to the social problems faced by the minority community. Through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) three main issues were identified. The issues of language fading, identity threat and mix marriages are found to be the major problems faced by the Sikh community in Malaysia. Thus, the findings of this study hoped to unveil the real problems of the minority community and would be addressed by the Sikh religious institutions and organizations. The Sikh organizations must also engage with the government agencies as equal partners to eradicate the social problems. The outcome shows that the Punjabi language is on the threat as dominated by other major languages namely English and Malay.

The Murut Tahol community is one of the few well conserved indigenous groups in Sabah. This community is known for being a community that has its own distinctive identity. Although they were ruled by various administrations like the British North Borneo Charted Company (BNBCC) since 1881 till 1941, the Japanese Ruling (1946-1962), the era of post-independence since 1963; they are still holding adamantly to their traditional culture. The arrival of religious influences like Christianity started since the 1950s also did not distance themselves with their community’s culture. Therefore, this has proven the ability of the Murut Tahol community to ensure their traditional cultures are preserved. Research that has been done on the Murut Tahol community in Kampung Alutok, Ulu Tomani, shows that the community is making adaptations to its culture so that it can be on par with the religion they have adopted and that it is well-suited with the passing of time. Therefore, their culture has always been relevant to the time and conditions of their community. The interesting thing about this community is their ability to separate cultural landscape that cannot be changed with the cultural practices that can be flexible; subsequently making their own choices on the cultural aspect that needs to be preserved or otherwise.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of atmospheric frying followed by drainage under vacuum on the stability of oil, compared to similar frying with drainage at atmospheric pressure. Changes in the oil were assessed by the free fatty acid (FFA) content, p-anisidine value (AnV), colour, viscosity, fatty acid profile and concentration of tocols. The rate of FFA formation in the case of vacuum drainage was found to be about half that of atmospheric drainage. Oil deterioration by oxidation and polymerisation was also reduced by the use of vacuum drainage. The AnV of the oil after vacuum drainage was lower by about 12%, the total colour difference was improved by 14% and viscosity was slightly reduced after 5 days of frying, compared to the values for oil that had been drained at atmospheric pressure. There was a reduction in the loss of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the case of vacuum drainage after 5 days of frying but differences in retention of tocols were only evident in the first two days of frying.

Characterisation of fatty acids composition of three palm-based reference materials was carried out through inter-laboratory proficiency tests. Twelve laboratories collaborated in these tests and the fatty acids compositions of palm oil, palm olein and palm stearin were determined by applying the MPOB Test Methods p3.4:2004 and p3.5:2004. Determination of consensus values and their uncertainties were based on the acceptable statistical agreement of results obtained from the collaborating laboratories. The consensus values and uncertainties (%) for each palm oil reference material produced are listed as follows : 0.20% (C12:0), 1.66+/-0.05% (C14:0), 43.39+/-0.39% (C16:0), 0.14+/-0.06% (C16:1), 3.90+/-0.11% (C18:0), 40.95+/-0.23% (C18:1), 9.68+/-0.21% (C18:2), 0.16+/-0.07% (C18:3) and 0.31+/-0.08% (C20:0) for fatty acids composition of palm oil; 0.23+/-0.04% (C12:0), 1.02+/-0.04% (C14:0), 39.66+/-0.19% (C16:0), 0.18+/-0.07% (C16:1), 3.81+/-0.04% (C18:0), 44.01+/-0.08% (C18:1), 10.73+/-0.08% (C18:2), 0.20+/-0.06% (C18:3) and 0.34+/-0.04% (C20:0) for fatty acids composition of palm olein; and 0.20% (C12:0), 1.14+/-0.05% (C14:0), 49.42+/-0.25% (C16:0), 0.16+/-0.08% (C16:1), 4.15+/-0.10% (C18:0), 36.14+/-0.77% (C18:1), 7.95+/-0.29% (C18:2), 0.11+/-0.07% (C18:3) and 0.30+/-0.08% (C20:0) for fatty acids composition of palm stearin.

The aim of this article is to investigate the current conditions of the adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in preserving cultural identity among the ethnic minorities in Peninsular Malaysia. ICT plays a crucial role in the present knowledge-based globalization era and the usage has become a basic necessity for all members of the society in managing their daily lives. It has pervaded every aspect of human life and has significantly changed the manner in which society communicate and interact with one another. This is particularly important as the ethnic minorities in Malaysia inevitably facing the great challenges of losing their cultural identity through the assimilation process into the larger mainstream society. ICT appear as an alternative which help in enhancing the efforts for cultural preservation. The penetration of ICT in ethnic minority everyday life has directly or indirectly provides a platform for them to express and share their ideas, thoughts, perceptions and knowledge about their existing culture. However, are the ethnic minorities have sufficient resources to adopt ICT to preserve their culture is still unexplored. The extent of the ethnic minorities' awareness of the advantages of ICT to preserve their cultural identity is still questionable.

An improved understanding of the bus operation is important for a well managed bus services.
