Abstract

The article examines the eating habits and patterns in Canada, based on the initial results of the 2004 Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS)-Nutrition. The CCHS-Nutrition was the first national comprehensive survey of Canadians' eating habits since the early 1970s. A historical overview of the topic is provided based on the results from the national survey of Canadian dietary habits from 1970 to 1972. Both surveys show that calorie consumption is highest during adolescence and declines with age. Canadian children did not meet the minimum requirement for daily servings of vegetables, fruits, milk products and meat. In contrast, children and teenagers exceed upper limit for fat intake.
