There are several ways to improve an internal combustion engine's performance, including increasing engine displacement, increasing turbocharger boost pressure and airflow, decreasing intake air temperature, increasing compression ratio, increasing bore-stroke ratio, and others. This paper discusses some of the findings from research into improving the performance of the V-TEC GD3 Sedan engine by modifying the standard engine from 1497cc to 1507cc for racing. The cylinder diameter changed from 73 mm before retrofitting to 73.25 mm after the retrofit, increasing the compression ratio of the engine from 10.1:1 before the retrofit to 11.4:1 after the retrofit. According to the findings, increasing the compression ratio had a positive effect on the performance parameters. Because of the increased compression ratio of the engine, the maximum brake power produced by the engine increased from 62 kW before retrofitting to 85.4 kW after the retrofit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
