This study sought to determine whether ebook would enhance learners skills in Electrical Installation and Maintenance. In this study, the researcher employed descriptive experimental design. The researcher used one section with fifty Grade 8 learners as the respondents of the study who were in Sta. Catalina National High School. In this study, the researcher gathered data of the respondents in terms of their profile, learners' experiences and perception in using E-BOOK in EIM. The findings demonstrated that the experiences and perception of the respondents in terms of SLE in EIM were always observed, learners' performance in written and hands on activities has a verbal interpretation of excellent and very good while, the result entails that there is a increased of scores and grades of the respondents after the utilization of ebook. The study also revealed that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the respondents in written and hands-on performance. Health education aims to change unhealthy behaviors and promote population health. However, limited teaching time and standardized materials pose challenges, prompting elementary school teachers to explore technology-enhanced teaching strategies. To cultivate proper health attitudes and behaviors among elementary school students, many researchers have widely used e-books to teach health education-related courses. Many studies have proven interactive e-books to be effective in aiding both teaching and learning. However, despite the continuous innovation of e-books in educational applications, the long-term effects of e-books have yet to be investigated, since learning memory only responds to short-term memory effects. Therefore, this study attempts to develop a sequential multi-level prompting strategy for e-book learning in a mobile learning environment for tablet computers. Students from two primary school classes were recruited for the empirical study. The experimental group used a sequential multi-level, prompting-based e-book to learn, while the control group used a conventional e-book learning approach. According to the study's results, the proposed learning strategies were found to improve the learning achievement of primary school students for cardiovascular disease, guide students in building knowledge, develop thinking and problem-solving skills, and help students transform their learning from short-term to long-term memory through post-testing of problem-solving delays. It is certain that sequential multi-level prompting strategies can help younger learners better understand and remember learning content and apply the knowledge they have gained to develop correct health attitudes. The e-books industry is mature, and audiobooks are becoming increasingly popular. More and more publishers are coming to realize that audiobooks could be a potential revenue driver and intend to release audiobooks. Considering that there is a certain substitutability between e-books and audiobooks, publishers need to decide how to release a book in its audible version and its e-book version into the market. In this paper, we incorporate the discount factor and the consumers' acceptance level for audiobooks into the consumer utility by dividing consumers into two types, high-value type and low-value type, and construct two different release models: releasing the audiobook and the e-book simultaneously and releasing the audiobook after the e-book. Using an optimization tool, we investigate pricing strategies of a monopolistic publisher under two different release models. By comparing the theoretical results of the two models, we find that when the consumers' patience exceeds a certain threshold, releasing a book in its audible version after its e-book version is better for the publisher, and the publisher should adopt a skimming (refers to decreasing markups over time) pricing strategy for the e-book in this case. Further, the publisher should set a higher price for the audiobook than the e-book, whether or not they release the audiobook after the e-book. In addition, we conduct a numerical analysis to investigate how the discount factor, the percentage of high-value consumers, and the high-value consumers' acceptance level for audiobooks affect the consumer surplus and the social welfare. Student self-directed learning and creativity are needed to support the hybrid learning currently being implemented in higher education. This research aims to develop an integrated team-based project e-book to increase students’ self-directed learning and creativity. Products are designed according to the stages of the ADDIE model. The product is then tested for feasibility by material experts and evaluated by users. The results of the feasibility test conducted by experts show that the e-book is highly feasible for use. Meanwhile, user testing is conducted through pre- and post-tests. Furthermore, in-depth interviews were conducted with several students to enhance the depth of the obtained data. The results of user trials were analyzed using inferential statistical data analysis methods, specifically the paired sample t-test. The results of the analysis show that e-books can improve learning outcomes, students’ self-directed learning abilities, and student creativity in cultural anthropology courses. Therefore, the results of this research can be used with students to improve learning outcomes, creativity, and students’ self-directed learning abilities among students with similar characteristics. This study is motivated by students’ difficulties in comprehending abstract, complex, and dynamic concepts in the teaching and learning process of the Engineering Materials course. The course is very important because it is indispensable for advanced study program expertise courses. The objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of using the e-book Multimedia Animation (e-MMA) in the teaching and learning process of engineering materials courses on improving students’ learning outcomes in the crystal structure subject. The research utilized an experimental method completed with a randomized control group for pretest-posttest design. Two groups were assessed from two classes in Engineering Department randomly selected as the research sample. The subject that becomes the focus of this study is Crystal Structure to understand Concept Mastery and Problem-solving aspects. Thus, there will be two competency data from the research results. The application of e-MMA in the teaching and learning process can improve student learning outcomes. The e-MMA is very effective in solving the problems of students in understanding crystal structure because of their ability to provide images and animations of abstract objects. This study aims to identify the bibliometric outcomes of articles and research trends in specific areas. This study revealed research on the use of e-books for EFL education published in selected journals of the Web of Science from 2011 to 2020, and discusses the trends of the top-cited countries, journals, the most used keywords, and the popular subjects, learning strategies, target skills, and the research outcomes. A total of 53 selected articles were manually and systematically analyzed. The results revealed that the most productive country was Taiwan, and the most cited journal was Computers & Education. The most used keywords were "engagement." The bibliometric analysis can be reflected in the content analysis as preschoolers and elementary school students were the most common participants, guided learning were the most frequently used strategy, and the main target skill was reading. This review study provides an overview of the research agenda for the last 10 years, and highlights the trends in the field by analyzing relevant past research. When the use of e-books in EFL education studies was examined, reading comprehension, teaching/learning strategies, and learning engagement were found to be crucial in the studies. Therefore, there is a need to develop more useful features of e-books to support EFL teaching practices. This study presents an ontology-based visualization support system for e-book learners which promotes both meaningful receptive learning and meaningful discovery learning. To examine the system effectiveness, two learning modes are used: (a) reception comparison mode, where at the outset learners are shown complete versions of expert-generated topic maps; and (b) "cache-cache comparison mode," where at the first stage of learning all information concerning relations is concealed, and at the second stage learners are encouraged to actively create those relations before comparing the learner-generated and expert-generated relations. The 50 control group participants studied in reception comparison mode while the 146 experimental groupparticipants studied in cache-cache comparison mode. Differences in learning perception and achievement between the two groups are examined, as is the effect of learner expertise level on learning mode effectiveness. Although the control group reported significantly more pressure and less satisfaction than the experimental group, no significant learning achievement differences were found between the two groups. However, in cache-cache comparison mode, the performance of learners with low prior knowledge increased more than that of learners with high prior knowledge; on the other hand, for learners with high prior knowledge, no significant effect of learning mode on learning achievement was found. The learning process in which the atmosphere brings boredom and laziness and the lack of use of learning media is one of the factors in the lack of effective learning and the lack of enthusiasm of students in learning. For example, when learning takes place in schools, educators still use package books as materials in the learning process, so that educators cannot create a learning atmosphere. Therefore, educators need to increase their creativity by developing skills in making teaching materials in the form of utilizing technology-based learning media such as developing Arabic e-books using the Flip PDF Professional application. The purpose of this study was to develop Arabic e-books with the professional flip pdf application for junior high school students. In developing this e-book, researchers used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Borg & Gall technique, the subjects in this study were 125 junior high school students. Based on large-scale testing, the results of the questionnaire of students' learning independence in the e-book developed reached an average percentage of 82%, namely the "Good" assessment and also included the "High" category. The results of small-scale testing in the questionnaire assessment of students' interest in learning in the e-book developed reached an average percentage of 85%, namely the "Good" assessment and included the "High" category. Based on small-scale testing, the results of the questionnaire of students' interest in learning in the e-book developed reached an average percentage of 85%, namely the assessment of "Good" and included the "High" category. From the results of this study, the researcher concluded that the Flip PDF Proffessionalbased E-book for students developed was able to increase students' interest in learning and learning independence. The study was aimed at revealing the trends of students of the College of Basic Education towards the use of e-book in learning in Kuwait. The computational average of the instrument as a whole (3.88). The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences attributable to the effect of Gender, and that there were statistically significant differences attributable to the impact of the school level, and the differences were in favor of the third and fourth. This action research aimed to evaluate the impact of personalized reading plans on first-grade students' reading engagement and comprehension. Personalized reading plans were created for each student based on their interests and reading abilities within an e-book library. Qualitative and quantitative data were gathered from 10 first-grade students before and during the implementation of personalized reading plans. Overall, students showed an increase in reading engagement and spent less time engaging in off-task behaviors during the implementation of personalized reading plans. Additionally, system log data revealed an increase in the amount of time students spent reading e-books. However, there was a considerable decrease in the number of quizzes taken during the implementation, and students' reading comprehension scores did not improve after implementing the personalized reading plans. Book availability has never been higher. However, for years now, both in university and in other social circles, it has been said that young people do not read enough. This paradox makes it necessary to examine people’s reading and book buying habits from time to time in order to establish if the situation is changing considering the frequent appearance of new media that can transmit text. The paper presents the results of a quantitative study that investigated the behavior of Belgrade University students regarding the purchase of books out of the domain of university literature. In the electronic survey conducted in July 2020, 471 respondents participated, and their answers were related to book buying behavior in the past year. The results show that 84.3% (397) of students bought at least one book during the period. Most often, books were purchased in one of the bookstore chains (332), although the number of those who ordered them from bookstore websites (157) or on other websites (86) is not negligible. A certain number of students also bought e-books (33). Respondents most often choose classics, although they are also interested in thrillers, dramas, crime novels, as well as in educational content, philosophy and psychology. Half of the students who buy books also borrow reading material from the library. Of those who do not buy books, 23% (17) use library services, and 27% (20) of them read books in electronic form that they find on the Internet. Although 15.7% of respondents stated that they had not bought a single book in the last year, among them there is a large number of those who read. There are only 4% (19) of readers of free accessible e-books who do not buy books. This, and previously presented data in the paper indicate that the availability of various illegal and legal forms of books on the Internet still does not significantly affect the need of students, the future active players of this society, to bring books to the shelves of their library. This study aims to determine whether problem-based learning-based e-books can improve students' critical thinking ability in primary school science learning. Background: Continuous advances in mobile and multimedia technologies have increased interest in the use of e‐books in educational settings. Objectives: The current study investigated how the e‐book technology and different types of feedback influenced the learning, motivation, and cognitive load of students within the differentiation unit of mathematics class. Methods: Participants targeted for this study consisted of 125 first‐year students randomly assigned into one of four experimental conditions formed by a 2 (interactive e‐book vs. static PDF book) x 2 (simple feedback vs. video feedback) factorial design. Results and Conclusions: The findings showed that there is a significant main interaction effect between the use of interactive e‐book and video feedback when students' achievement scores are measured. While no interaction effects on intrinsic motivation between the type of e‐book and type of feedback were found, the findings revealed interactive e‐book and video feedback separately increased intrinsic motivation. With regard to cognitive load, the results revealed that the use of interactive e‐book that delivered video feedback significantly reduced students' extraneous and intrinsic cognitive load. We examined an intervention in kindergarten using an e-book for vocabulary enrichment. In programme (a), the children read the e-book with a dictionary and the teacher's support. In programme (b), the children read the e-book with the dictionary independently. In programme (c), the children read the e-book without a dictionary (control). The participants included 103 children (aged 5-6) from LSES families. They read the e-book in the kindergarten class six times. The children were tested pre, post 1 and post 2, on story focal words at the receptive, explanation and production level. Children who read the ebook with the dictionary and the teacher's support learned more words than those, who read the e-book with the dictionary independently, and more than the control. Achievements were maintained after one month. Children with an initial low level progressed more than those with a high level. The findings and their implications are discussed. Humankind always has an effort to produce information and code (write) it in order to keep the information permanent. While information has been produced before the invention of computer was subjected to the process of reading on the basis of tactual materials (such as clay, rock, papyrus, and paper); whereas together with the spread of computers and internet, information has begun to be produced in the electronic environment and offered to readers in this environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' habit of reading printed and e-books comparatively within the context of certain variables. In line with this purpose, semi-structured interview technique which is among qualitative data collection techniques was used in the study. The target population of the study consisted of fourth-grade high school students having education in a city center of Central Anatolia in the 2019-2020 academic year. In this context, 51 students were included in the study survey. In order to collect the study data, face-to-face interviews were conducted with students using a semi-structured interview form that was developed by the researchers and the data acquired were recorded in both written and audial forms. At the end of the interviews, the data were analyzed via content analysis method, and various concepts and correlations were analyzed in line with the purpose of study. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that while most of high school students preferred to read from the printed book, they generally have a low-level book reading and also the readers. Technological developments can be used to support learning. One example of technological development is replacing printed books with nonprinted books (e-Books). E-books can be used as interactive learning resources because they can be integrated with images, animations, videos, and flash to make them more exciting and look natural. This paper is one of the results of developing an e-Book based on scientific literacy on temperature and heat concepts. This study aims to produce a good e-Book used to support learning. This research uses ADDIE model development research (Analysis-Design-Development-Implementation-Evaluation) with descriptivequantitative data analysis data collection techniques using validation sheets to determine the validity of ebooks. The results show that the scientific literacybased e-Book that has been developed is very valid to be used as a learning resource. The percentage value of validity from the media aspect was 92.98%, while the material aspect was 94.73%. Finally, the percentage value of the validity of the language aspect was 94.60%. In a time of serious health crisis worldwide, this study is the extension of a case study already started (in February and March 2020) about the issue, reading behaviors, and preferences between the use of books and e-books. The COVID-19 pandemic came to impose social distancing in the world, closing universities, schools, and other services. The implementation of Internet services has presented itself as a valid response to the change that has so brutally arisen. Naturally, everyone had to adapt to it. In this context, the question about the preferences in using books or e-books is now even more relevant. This paper analyses the impact of COVID-19 in the behavioral trends in the use of scientific information from printed books and e-books in Portugal and Brazil. To this end, a survey was conducted on a user sample from various Portuguese and Brazilian higher education schools and public libraries. The first part focused on the characterization of the respondents, which includes data on gender and qualifications attended. In the second part, we obtained viewpoints about the advantages and disadvantages of each medium, frequency of use, choice of medium according to the purpose of reading, and devices used. The results let us examine the factors that influence and change the behaviors of users concerning their choice. Research such as this is beneficial to support the decision not only in selecting the information resources to be bought or pondering user preferences, but also to define strategies for advocating the use of various media that, rather than competitors, should be complimentary. Purpose: Receiving a cancer diagnosis for young people is likely to adversely impact the individual's quality of life. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are an emerging strategy used to improve psychosocial well-being. However, challenges have been reported in relation to adherence and accessibility of face-to-face mindfulness programs among young people. This study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a mindfulness-based interactive e-Book to improve psychosocial well-being of young people with cancer. Methods: Concurrent mixed methods approach with a pre-intervention-post-intervention survey and semistructured interviews evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of a MBI delivered over a 6-week period, and its effect on psychosocial well-being of young people with cancer 15 to 24 years of age. Results: Of the 31 young people, both survivors and on active treatment, enrolled in the study, 20 (64.5%) completed the post-intervention survey. Textual data and interviews (n = 3) revealed that young people enjoyed the intervention and found it useful and easy to navigate, but wanted more attention paid to cancer-specific stressors, as well as opportunities for face-to-face or online interactions. Psychosocial well-being measures demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in depressive symptoms (2.35 to 1.25, p = 0.03) and psychological distress (23.63 to 19.79, p = 0.03), along with nonsignificant increases in mindfulness (20.05 to 22.9, p = 0.08) and quality of life (62.0 to 69.1, p = 0.13). Conclusion: Young people found the self-help MBI, delivered in an interactive e-Book platform, useful and acceptable. Printed books would be about to die in front of the advantages offered by the digital world. But for 750 million illiterates over 15 worldwide, for two-thirds women (UNESCO, 2017), literature does not go through digital or printing on paper. There is also a disturbing degree of returning or functional illiteracy, significantly affecting a part of European population. Starting from an idea of literature that is above all the art of the word, the article analyzes the (in)utility of digital media compared to the emotional impact and prestige possessed by printed books; the relationship between e-books and printed books in the self-publishing sector; the importance of the human voice as an ancient and very modern means of telling stories and conveying emotions. Recent statistical data (e.g. Pepe Research, 2020) show the success of audiobooks and podcasts in Covid times, in Italy and in the "Westernworld", and for some types of disabilities. The article underlines the need to recompose the competition between digital and printed books into a fruitful collaboration. Finally, it is highlighted that the voice is, still today and everywhere - from the hi-tech world to African storytellers -an extraordinary tool to produce and promote knowledge about literature. This study explores effects of e-book and audio-book on EFL comprehension. It was conducted at a university in Korea with 75 college students. The whole experiment lasted for five weeks in 2020. To determine effectiveness of multiple modalities, participants were assigned to three different experimental groups: e-book, audio-book, and e-audiobook (a combination of e-book and audio-book) groups. While the e-book group was provided with passages in a text format, the audio group received the same passages in an audio format. The e-audio-book group was given both text and audio formats. At the beginning and end of the treatment, pretest and posttest were administered. As expected, the e-audio-book group benefited more than the other two groups in listening comprehension. However, they showed better performance in reading comprehension than the audio-book group only. Additionally, the e-book group performed better in reading comprehension compared to the audio-book group. Based on these findings, pedagogical implications are made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Currently, there is a more frequent replacement of books by e-books, which have become an increasingly viable format and make it easier for readers to read books in a variety of places. Public libraries therefore focus more often on the provision of e-books as one of the components of their digital services. However, these services do not always meet with an adequate demand from readers due to several factors, such as service charges or a lack of awareness. Therefore, in this article, the authors focus on the demand side, represented by e-book readers. Specifically, they focus on the Municipal Library of Prague's e-book readers' behaviour and propose a three-step research model. It consists of analyses focusing on: (1) the specifics of the Municipal Library of Prague's e-book readers; (2) e-book readers' interest in borrowing e-books; and (3) e-book readers' interest in the Municipal Library of Prague's e-service when they must pay a fee. As a data source, the authors use unique data from an online questionnaire survey among readers of the Municipal Library of Prague in 2019 by the Sociores agency. The results show that science fiction and fantasy readers represent the most significant group of e-book readers at the Municipal Library of Prague, and that Facebook is the most significant channel for communication with e-book readers. The authors also confirm the importance of e-book readers and smartphones as devices that significantly affect readers' decision to read e-books. Multisensorial books enrich a story with either traditional multimedia content or sensorial effects. The main idea is to increase children's interest in reading by enhancing their QoE while reading. Studies on enriched and/or augmented e-books also propose synchronizing additional content with text. However, they usually focus on audio, vídeo, images, or haptic feedback. In this work, we present MBook, a tool for presenting multisensorial books. It decouples the book's textual content from the additional content, as well as its synchronization, and rendering. Thus, a change in the additional content or its synchronization does not require changes to the book's content. To enable fine-grained synchronization, MBook captures the reading position using an eye-tracker. Experimental results with students within the 13- to 19-year-old age group point to MBook being able to provide good usability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A data hiding method based on integer factorization via e-books in the EPUB format with XHTML and CSS files for copyright protection is proposed. Firstly, a fixed number m of leading bits in a message are transformed into an integer which is then factorized to yield k results. One of the k factorizations is chosen according to the decimal value of a number n of the subsequent message bits with n being decided as the binary logarithm of k. Next, the chosen factorization, denoted as a b, is utilized to create a combined use of the and elements in the XHTML files to embed the m + n message bits by including into the two elements a class selector named according to the value of a as well as a text segment with b characters. The class selector is created by the use of a CSS pseudo-element. The resulting web pages are of no visual difference from the original, achieving a steganographic effect. The security of the embedded message is also considered by randomizing the message bits before they are embedded. Good experimental results and comparisons with exiting methods show the feasibility of the proposed method for copyright protection of e-books. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the first years of the new millennium, the popularization of e-books and widely available digital content built a strong case for the possibility of analog eradication. Within the past few decades, most popular analog forms of entertainment have been replaced by more compact and efficient methods of consumption. Purpose: Electronic books (e-books) have been in the market for decades but have been unable to replace paper books. Previous studies on e-books have failed to identify significant factors affecting the adoption and diffusion of e-books. This study develops a theoretical framework to explain the adoption behavior of e-books from the perspective of user resistance. Design/methodology/approach: After a pilot test with 50 e-book users, the research model is validated using a partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. A web-based survey method is used to collect data from a sample of 350 people – selected from Korean e-book users and nonusers – during a week in March 2017. This study tests the reliability and validity of the integrated model of planned behavior and resistance theory and tests the hypotheses with bootstrapping resampling. Findings: The results show that four barriers – usage, value, risk and image – cause resistance to change and users with higher resistance have lower intention to use. The moderating effect of self-efficacy between resistance to change and intention to use is confirmed. Self-efficacy interacts not only with the encouraging factors but also with resistance. Originality/value: This study expands the understanding of users' adoption behavior of e-books by examining inhibiting factors using a novel integrated model. The findings of this research provide insights for digital product providers, especially e-book publishers, to understand why digital products have not been successful in the marketplace. This article discusses the use of electronic books (E-Book), its potentiality and the analysis made for the construction of an E-book by the Mathematics teachers in a continuede ducation, developed with the purpose of working Digital Literacy with the involved ones. A survey instrument with open and closed questions was applied in order to seek the opinion of Math teachers about the use of E-books. This initial step was used to choose tools that can be performed during teacher education. One of the developed activities during the formation, consisted of face-to-face meetings and distance learning, another activity was the didactic materials construction through Digital Technologies, leading teachers to reflect on their practice using these tools, placing them as active subjects in the proposed actions, aspect concerning Digital Literacy. From the perspective of this research, we understand that it is necessary the development of a Digital Literacy by the teacher to later help his student develop his own Digital Literacy. Aim: This study was conducted to determine the preferences of testing and learning styles of undergraduate nursing students within a baccalaureate school of nursing. Background: Historically, nursing education has been in a face-to face (F2F) lecture format. One of the most pronounced trends in higher education over the last decade has been a strong growth in distance education through online course work [1]. Method: A survey was given to 685 undergraduate sophomore level nursing students within a baccalaureate undergraduate school of nursing over eight semesters. This same survey was given again to these sophomore undergraduate nursing students during their senior year to determine if results waivered. There were 228 seniors surveyed over four semesters. Students were asked to indicate their age (17 to 27 years, 27 to 37 years, > 37 years) Students were queried about their preferences among the following categories: 1. Test taking preference: computer exams, or paper and pencil exams 2. Book preference: traditional hard copy textbook, or E-book 3. Learning style preference: online learning, or attending classroom lecture, or both Results: Overwhelmingly, sophomore and senior level undergraduate nursing students surveyed, selected their preferences in test taking, book usage, and instruction styles, to support traditional learning methodologies period. Conclusion: The results from this study emphasize the need for nurse educators to listen attentively to their students and not assume that advanced technology is the ultimate learning method to be utilized. Background: The author of this paper works in the critical care ward of an internal medicine department. During the study period, current trainees in a nurse post graduate year (NPGY) program joined our nurse team. While at our ward, they were required to demonstrate clinical nursing competencies in intensive care units in the facets of nursing knowledge, equipment use, prediction of emergencies, emergency response, and patient evaluation and management. The ability to interpret arrhythmias is critical to connecting and coordinating these competencies. However, arrhythmia interpretation is usually the most difficult skill for nurses to master. Purpose: This study was developed to improve the knowledge of NPGY trainees regarding arrhythmia interpretation, the accuracy of their arrhythmia interpretation and management, and their confidence in caring for patients with arrhythmia. Resolution: The period of this study spanned from April 5th to June 18th, 2018. After surveying the current capabilities of the NPGY trainees to provide a reference for improvement, several teaching strategies were adopted. These strategies included: (1) provision of arrhythmia clinical scenarios; (2) establishment of multimedia teaching and interactive e-books; (3) development of memory strategies; and (4) mind mapping. Results: The accuracy of the trainees' knowledge regarding arrhythmia interpretation increased from 52.5% pretest to 92.5% posttest, while their arrhythmia interpretation skill improved from 56.3% pretest to 92.5% posttest. Furthermore, their caring-for-patients-with-arrhythmia confidence score increased from 5.5 to 9.1. All of the objectives of this study were achieved. Conclusions: The diverse teaching approach employed in this study enhanced the ability of trainees to remember and recall relevant theories as well as improved their related practical skills. Furthermore, posttest, the trainees were significantly less nervous during encounters with patients with arrhythmia and demonstrated improved problem-solving abilities. Participation in this intervention significantly improved the confidence of trainees to serve as critical care nurses and to pursue a career in critical care nursing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The authors of this article adduce facts according to which the development of an online platform and an electronic book for the study of Ukrainian literature by secondary school students is relevant. We described the structure and basic functionality of the process. The features and advantages of e-learning resources have been identified. The quantitative status of the development of e-books in Ukraine has been analyzed. The lack of ebook regarding Ukrainian literature for secondary school is indicated. It is reported that the developed online platform operates in three modes. The e-book of Ukrainian literature contains fiction texts, analysis of fiction texts, presentations, video and audio files for fiction texts, control unit. E-books have an important place in library collections in supporting education and research activities. Libraries need to follow and evaluate different acquisition models which vary by supplier, in order to create an effective and balanced collection by using their budgets efficiently. There are different e-book acquisition models that show under which conditions content by suppliers may be accessed. These models are constantly changing due to economic conditions and technological developments. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the choice of acquisition model affects total library expenditures, whether the choice of model changes according to the discipline, and which are the most cost-effective unit-use procurement models. In this study, based on real usage data from Hacettepe University Libraries, e-book acquisition models offered by the publisher and aggregator were tested and, then cost and subject analyses were made with the developed scenarios. Among the models offered by the publisher a unit usage cost of 1.18€ was seen in the EBA (Evidence Based Acquisition) model. If this model was preferred there would be guaranteed lower expenses. Among the models offered by the aggregator, the lowest unit usage cost ($13.75) was seen in the DDA (Demand Driven Acquisition) model with STL (STL - Short Term Loan). With the use of STL, the most used titles were purchased automatically, and the DDA model with STL became an economical option for the library. It was concluded that the frequency of e-book usage varies according to discipline, and unit usage costs vary depending on the total cost paid and the number of uses. The budget of the library, the supplier conditions, and usage data affect the preference of acquisition models according to discipline. The results of this research, in which a comparative cost analysis of e-book acquisition models was performed, should be used in collection development and management. Usage data should be analyzed, and the most appropriate and economic acquisition models should be determined, in order for budgets to be used more effectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teachers are increasingly using new technologies such as tablets and apps during shared reading experiences at preschool. However, little is known about how teachers scaffold young children's shared reading with interactive e-books such as tablet-based storybook apps and how it compares to using printed books. In this observational study, a teacher read a storybook app to children ages 2 to 4 years (N = 13) individually or in a small group using an iPad. The same storybook was read to children in printed book form. The teacher's utterances were coded into three types of scaffolding behaviors (cognitive, affective, and technical). Scaffolding was observed for both the storybook app and the printed storybook. The frequency of cognitive scaffolding was similar across both the storybook app and the printed storybook. However, the frequency of affective and technical scaffolding was higher with the storybook app than with the printed storybook. The teacher made more utterances and spent a longer time reading the storybook app than the printed book. The findings suggest that affective and technical scaffolding may be important factors to consider during a shared reading with storybook apps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to overcome the shortcomings of the traditional method of integrating historical data of library e-book borrowing, such as high delay and low integration throughput, this paper proposes a method of integrating historical data of library e-book borrowing based on big data technology. Based on big data technology, this method builds an integrated platform for library e-book borrowing, which consists of data layer, business layer, interface layer and application layer. Through the data layer, a series of borrowing historical data generated by the borrowing integration platform are collected, and data integration module is used to clean and filter the collected borrowing historical data of e-books. The data integration layer solves the local distortion and realizes the integrated processing of borrowed historical data. Experimental results show that the proposed method has the advantages of short time delay and low integration error rate, and the highest integration throughput can reach 97%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the effects of incorporating e-books into instructional material on reading and listening development among secondary school students with different levels of English proficiency. The experimental group utilized an e-book in regular English class, and the control group used a print version with the same content. An achievement test and focus-group interview followed the six-week e-book intervention. The test results showed that the e-book had a positive impact on listening comprehension, particularly for low-proficiency students. For these students, multimedia input combined with a standard accent seemed more effective for the development of listening skills than access to only the foreign-accented English spoken by the teacher. Furthermore, the use of visual aids, such as images and captions, might support listening comprehension by helping the students visualize auditory input and providing contextual information. Audio-only input might not be enough for low-proficiency students, who have relatively limited capability to recognize words from speech. With regard to reading, the e-book intervention resulted in higher test scores compared to the print book, but the between-group difference did not reach statistical significance. Possible reasons include a small sample size in each proficiency group as well as technical restrictions and distraction caused by multimedia material. The interview data indicates that the use of technology was not perceived as particularly beneficial for learning. Instead, diverse classroom activities and interactions were considered more important than the technology itself to draw students' attention and sustain their motivation. The present paper assessed the usage of technical tools offering updates in medical information through various medical devices, database, apps, etc. The advancement in learning process aided by newly designed tools, viz. various devices, applications and databases are now within the reach of students. The new trend of dealing with e-books, audio books, etc., is an asset to the spectrum of education. Especially, students pursuing professional courses like medicine, etc., should make the maximum use of these new peripherals in technology. Nowadays, a change in reading pattern has been observed - a shift from traditional books to e-books and audio books. This paper significantly brings out the usage pattern of various mobile devices, database meant for medical education and various apps for e-book reader and audio books. The data from 1150 students belonging to 16 medical colleges in Karnataka were obtained through questionnaire, interview and observation techniques and the findings were elaborated with the help of suitable statistical techniques.
