A devastating earthquake with moment magnitude 7.5 occurred in the Noto Peninsula in central Japan on 1 January 2024. We estimate the rupture evolution of this earthquake from teleseismic P‐wave data using the potency‐density tensor inversion method, which provides information on the spatiotemporal slip distribution including fault orientations. The results show a long and quiet initial rupture phase that overlaps with regions of preceding earthquake swarms and associated aseismic deformation. The following three major rupture episodes evolve on segmented, differently oriented faults bounded by the initial rupture region. The irregular initial rupture process followed by the multi‐scale rupture growth is considered to be controlled by the preceding seismic and aseismic processes and the geometric complexity of the fault system. Such a discrete rupture scenario, including the triggering of an isolated fault rupture, adds critical inputs on the assessment of strong ground motion and associated damages for future earthquakes. The strong ground motion and tsunami associated with the earthquake caused severe damage to buildings and infrastructure, resulting in at least 245 causalities in the affected areas. The Noto Peninsula is affected by northwest‐southeast compression, and active reverse faults are known along the northern coast of the peninsula and its offshore region. Before the 2024 earthquake, the source region experienced long‐lasting earthquake swarm activity, which is a set of seismic events without an obvious mainshock‐aftershock pattern. Our seismological analysis found that there was a 10‐s‐long initial rupture episode around the hypocenter that overlapped with the earthquake swarm region. The initial rupture was followed by a series of three different rupture episodes on differently oriented fault segments. This earthquake highlights a multi‐scale rupture growth across a segmented fault network after a very quiet initial rupture process that was controlled by the preceding earthquake swarms and associated aseismic deformation related to fluid injection from depth. The rupture process advances our understanding of earthquake source physics and can lead to a better assessment of future earthquake hazards. Very low‐frequency earthquakes (VLFs) are characterized by longer source duration and smaller stress drop than regular earthquakes of similar magnitude. Recent studies have shown their frequent correlation with low‐frequency earthquakes (LFEs) on shared faults. The underlying source processes governing the occurrence of VLFs and their interaction with LFEs remain elusive. Here, we employ a slip‐weakening model for slow earthquakes. By comparing the source parameters of simulations and observations, it is suggested that VLFs are slow self‐arresting earthquakes that self‐terminate within the nucleation patch. Additionally, we adopt a composite model to reproduce the records of the simultaneous occurrences of a VLF and an LFE in the Nankai area. Our results present the possibility that VLFs, LFEs, and regular earthquakes can be distinguished using a unified dynamic framework. The increased seismic activity observed in the Himalayas, coupled with the expanding urbanization of the surrounding areas in northern India, poses significant risks to both human lives and property. Developing an earthquake early warning system in the region could help in alleviating these risks, especially benefiting cities and towns in mountainous and foothill regions close to potential earthquake epicenters. To address this concern, the government and the science and engineering community collaborated to establish the Uttarakhand State Earthquake Early Warning System (UEEWS). The government of Uttarakhand successfully launched this full-fledged operational system to the public on 4 August 2021. The UEEWS includes an array of 170 accelerometers installed in the seismogenic areas of the Uttarakhand. Ground motion data from these sensors are transmitted to the central server through the dedicated private telecommunication network 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This system is designed to issue warnings for moderate to high-magnitude earthquakes via a mobile app freely available for smartphone users and by blowing sirens units installed in the buildings earmarked by the government. The UEEWS has successfully issued alerts for light earthquakes that have occurred in the instrumented region and warnings for moderate earthquakes that have triggered in the vicinity of the instrumented area. This paper provides an overview of the design of the UEEWS, details of instrumentation, adaptation of attributes and their relation to earthquake parameters, operational flow of the system, and information about dissemination of warnings to the public. The Garhwal region, situated in the central segment of the Himalayas, stands as one of the most seismically active areas in the Uttarakhand Himalaya. The newly established earthquake early warning (EEW) system in the Garhwal region emphasizes the critical need for magnitude scaling relations to enable real-time estimation of earthquake size. This study employs P-wave onset data from both observed and simulated records to develop magnitude scaling relations specific to the Garhwal region. Initially, we modified the semi-empirical technique (SET) for P-wave simulation and validated this modification using the 1991 Uttarkashi (Mw6.8) and 1999 Chamoli (Mw6.4) earthquakes in the Garhwal region. The modified semi-empirical technique (MSET) demonstrates its reliability, as evidenced by the comparatively low root mean square error (RMSE) between observed and simulated records for both earthquakes. Subsequently, we apply MSET to simulate seven additional future earthquakes (Mw7.0–8.5) at the hypocentral locations of the 1991 Uttarkashi and 1999 Chamoli earthquakes. Moreover, conventional EEW parameters, such as average period (τc) and peak amplitude displacement (Pd), are extracted from 107 observed and 63 simulated P-wave onsets, utilizing a 3 s time window. Using this combined dataset of observed and simulated data, we introduce magnitude scaling relations based on the τc and Pd parameters. Subsequently, the developed scaling relations are tested to predict earthquake magnitude using the average values of estimated EEW parameters. The relatively small errors, measuring at 4.47–0.75%, and 2.45–0.60% for τc–Mw and 5.71–1.60% and 4.90–1.57% for Pd–Mw scaling relations, respectively for the Uttarkashi and Chamoli earthquakes suggest the applicability of these proposed relations. However, the scaling relations developed tend to underestimate the magnitude of earthquakes larger than 7.5, potentially attributed to the saturation observed in these relations for big earthquakes. Additionally, the calculated lead time for future earthquakes will range from 4 to 60 s for the sites situated within epicentral distances of 56–200 km. This lead time has the potential to play a substantial role in disaster mitigation in the Garhwal region, especially in the Indo-Gangetic plains and Himalayan foothills. The Bucaramanga seismic nest has the highest concentration in volume of intermediate depth seismic events with light and moderate magnitudes (Mb > 4.8) worldwide. Despite the nest depth (Zhypo ≥ 100 km), these events play a crucial role in the seismic hazard assessment for several cities in northern South America (NoSAm), particularly those situated close to their epicenters. Moreover, these earthquakes are widely felt across the country, even hundreds of kilometers away from the nest. This paper assesses the performance of commonly used subduction intraslab Ground Motion Models (GMMs) in predicting the updated nest database gathered and processed by the Colombian Geological Survey. This analysis confirms the necessity of a partially non-ergodic ground motion model for estimating the spectral accelerations produced by Bucaramanga nest earthquakes in northern South America. The GMM presented herein is the first model developed specifically for seismic nests in the region and is conceived as a regionalization of the recent NGA-Sub Abrahamson and Gülerce (Earthq Spectra 38(4):2638−2681, 2022) GMM. Additionally, we provide estimates of the variance components at both the earthquake and station levels and compare the developed GMM with the spectral accelerations recorded for typical earthquakes, for the highest magnitude earthquake in the database, and for a recent Bucaramanga nest earthquake having a moment magnitude over 5. Large‐scale disturbance events provide ideal opportunities to directly study recolonisation processes in natural environments, via the removal of competitors and the formation of newly vacant habitat. A high magnitude earthquake in central New Zealand in 2016 created major ecological disturbance, with coastal tectonic uplift of up to ~ 6 m extirpating vast swathes of intertidal organisms. One of the affected species was Durvillaea antarctica (rimurapa or southern bull kelp), which is an important habitat‐forming intertidal macroalga capable of long‐distance dispersal. Across the complex fault system with varying amounts of uplift, the species was either locally extirpated or heavily reduced in abundance. We hypothesised that neutral priority effects and chance dispersal from other populations would influence which lineages would establish. We sampled individuals of D. antarctica across the uplift zone immediately after the earthquake in 2016 and then repeatedly sampled new recruits in the same areas between 2017 and 2020, using genotyping‐by‐sequencing to provide 'before' and 'after' genomic comparisons. Our results revealed strong geographic clustering but little evidence of new lineages establishing at disturbed sites, although populations at uplifted sites remain at remarkably low densities. We infer that recolonisation has thus far primarily originated from refugial, remnant patches within the uplift zone. To complement the phylogeographic analysis, we estimated oceanographic connectivity among the uplift zone sample locations. The connectivity modelling estimated that northbound dispersal of D. antarctica was more likely, but we have not yet detected southern genotypes in the recolonised populations. As the ongoing recolonisation process transitions from an ecological to an evolutionary timescale, change remains possible. This study provides the first genomic 'snapshots' of a natural recolonisation process following a large‐scale ecological disturbance event, and ongoing research has the potential to reveal important insight into both micro‐ and macroevolutionary processes. Twenty-seven earthquakes in Taiwan with local magnitudes M L = 5. 6 − 7. 3 and focal depths d = 8.0−215.8 km were preceded by thermal infrared radiation (TIR) anomalies. The data are taken as an example to investigate the mechanisms of generating the TIR and to examine whether the TIR anomalies can be considered as a precursor or not. Let T D and T N be the largest number of days before forthcoming earthquakes when the anomalies are observed in the day-time and the night-time, respectively. The precursor time, T, for an event, is the larger value of T D and T N . The plots of both T vs. M L and T D vs. M L are scattered. Regardless of two data points with abnormally large T N values, it seems able to recognize a positive correlation between T N and M L . Among the 27 earthquakes, 8 events were proceeded by Rn concentration changes whose precursor times are T Rn = 7. 4 − 1 7 1 days. For most of the eight events, T Rn is much longer than either T D or T N . Hence, the model of outflow of gases from the depths to the ground surface for describing the Rn concentration changes cannot interpret the TIR anomalies. Based on rock mechanics, the temperature rise, Δ T , is generated by frictional heating due to preseismic slip. That the TIR anomalies discontinuously appeared before earthquakes and the occurrence times vary for different events is inconsistent with the processes of generation of frictional heating caused by preseismic slip on a few shallow faults in the source areas before forthcoming earthquakes. On February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake with a moment magnitude of MW7.8 struck the town of Pazarcik in south-central Türkiye, followed by another powerful earthquake with a moment magnitude of MW7.6 that struck the nearby city of Elbistan 9 h later. To study the characteristics of surface deformation caused by this event and the influence of fault rupture, this study calculated the static coseismic deformation of 56 stations and dynamic displacement waveforms of 15 stations using data from the Turkish national fixed global navigation satellite system (GNSS) network. A maximum static coseismic displacement of 0.38 m for the MW7.8 Kahramanmaras earthquake was observed at station ANTE, 36 km from the epicenter, and a maximum dynamic coseismic displacement of 4.4 m for the MW7.6 Elbistan earthquake was observed at station EKZ1, 5 km from the epicenter. The rupture-slip distributions of the two earthquakes were inverted using GNSS coseismic deformation as a constraint. The results showed that the Kahramanmaras earthquake rupture segment was distinct and exposed on the ground, resulting in significant rupture slip along the Amanos and Pazarcik fault segments of the East Anatolian Fault. The maximum slip in the Pazarcik fault segment was 10.7 m, and rupture occurred at depths of 0-15 km. In the Cardak fault region, the Elbistan earthquake caused significant ruptures at depths of 0-12 km, with the largest amount of slip reaching 11.6 m. The Coulomb stress change caused by the Kahramanmaras earthquake rupture along the Cardak fault segment was approximately 2 bars, and the area of increased Coulomb stress corresponded to the subsequent rupture region of the MW7.6 earthquake. Thus, it is likely that the MW7.8 earthquake triggered or promoted the MW7.6 earthquake. Based on the cumulative stress impact of the MW7.8 and MW7.6 events, the southwestern segment of the East Anatolian Fault, specifically the Amanos fault segment, experienced a Coulomb rupture stress change exceeding 2 bars, warranting further attention to assess its future seismic hazard risk. On September 5, 2022, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of MS6.8 struck Luding County in Sichuan Province, China, triggering thousands of landslides along the Dadu River in the northwest-southeast (NW-SE) direction. We investigated the reactivation characteristics of historical landslides within the epicentral area of the Luding earthquake to identify the initiation mechanism of earthquake-induced landslides. Records of the two newly triggered and historical landslides were analyzed using manual and threshold methods; the spatial distribution of landslides was assessed in relation to topographical and geological factors using remote sensing images. This study sheds light on the spatial distribution patterns of landslides, especially those that occur above historical landslide areas. Our results revealed a similarity in the spatial distribution trends between historical landslides and new ones induced by earthquakes. These landslides tend to be concentrated within a range of 0.2 km from the river and 2 km from the fault. Notably, both rivers and faults predominantly influenced the reactivation of historical landslides. Remarkably, the reactivated landslides are characterized by their small to medium size and are predominantly situated in historical landslide zones. The number of reactivated landslides surpassed that of previously documented historical landslides within the study area. We provide insights into the critical factors responsible for historical landslides during the 2022 Luding earthquake, thereby enhancing our understanding of the potential implications for future co-seismic hazard assessments and mitigation strategies. The 2016 magnitude (MW) 5.5 Gyeongju earthquake, which occurred in Korea near assumed epicenters of several substantial historical earthquakes and Quaternary fault segments, underscores the importance of seismic hazard assessment in the region. However, uncertainties about potential seismic sources make evaluating the potential for a moderate-to-large earthquake challenging. Microearthquake monitoring through a dense seismic network can provide crucial insights into the regional seismic characteristics. An extensive temporary seismic array known as the Gyeongju Hi-density Broadband Seismic Network (GHBSN) was established to investigate microearthquake activity in the southeastern Korean Peninsula. This included the zone of aftershocks from the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake sequence. The GHBSN comprises 200 broadband stations located at approximately 4.5 km intervals in an area of approximately 60 × 60 km2 around the epicenter of the mainshock. A total of 4,773 events were detected from November 2017 to December 2021, including 3,935 events within the GHBSN. The detected events were categorized into five seismic regions excluding quarry blasting sites, that is, the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake region, eastern part of the Ulsan Fault, 2017 Pohang earthquake region, eastern offshore Gyeongju, and western part of the Miryang Fault. A local magnitude scale was developed for the southeastern Korean Peninsula using events detected through the GHBSN. This reflects the distance attenuation and site conditions of the GHBSN stations for earthquakes. An event catalog was created using two automatic detection methods based on the measurement of the energy ratio. This provided high-resolution hypocenter parameters at a completeness magnitude (MC) of 0.0 despite the seismic environment of the network being exposed to high cultural noise. The Gutenberg-Richter b-value was estimated as 0.82 ± 0.02 for all events and 1.01 ± 0.02 for those inside GHBSN. This implies that the seismicity reflects a representative intraplate seismic environment. Testing the obtainability of the focal mechanism solutions showed that the GHBSN outperformed the regional network. Depending on the relationship between the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes, a relatively large number of small earthquakes can provide detailed information on the geometric properties of the causative faults and the state of the acting stress. High-precision microearthquake observation and analysis through GHBSN could provide an unprecedented opportunity with seismic datasets to understand the seismogenesis of the southeastern Korean Peninsula, including the zone of aftershocks of the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake. A moderate size earthquake (ML 5.9) occurred near Mechuka in Siang Valley on 23rd April 2019 at 20:15:50.00 UTC in the rupture zone of the great Assam earthquake of 15th August 1950. This shallow-focused earthquake occurred close to NE trending Main Central Thrust has a thrust fault mechanism striking parallel to this major tectonics of the Himalaya. Including this event, a dataset of 46 local, micro and low magnitude earthquakes (1.5 ≤ ML ≤ 5.9) of the Siang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, NE India, are evaluated for the characteristics of the earthquake source, seismicity, stress drop and tectonic structures. The earthquake events were recorded by a close digital network of eight broadband seismic stations installed in December 2018 in the Siang Valley. The stress drop (Δσ) obtained for the Mechuka earthquake in the Siang Valley is 114.71 bars, the seismic moment (Mo) of 6.86E + 16 Nm and the source radius (r) of 1392.41 m. The seismic moments obtained from the microearthquakes vary between 2.44E + 11 and 6.86E + 16 Nm, and the source radius varies from 172.90 to 1392.41 m based on Brune's circular source model 1970. The corner frequencies (fc) of the events range from 1.03 to 8.04 Hz. Seismically intense clustering of microearthquakes has a low-stress drop below 10 bar except for the Mechuka earthquake, which varies from 0.05 to 114.72. This high-stress drop of moderate earthquake compared to its low values of lower magnitude earthquakes indicates that the earthquake of 23rd April 2019 is associated with high-strength material accumulating high strain during the earthquake-building process. Moment magnitude of whole data set ranges from 1.52 to 5.16. The scaling relationship between Mo and fc is obtained as 9.089E + 16fc–9.52, and for Mo and Δσ are modelled to be related as Mo = 8.96E + 10Δσ2.86. Evaluated low-stress drop for the smaller size of earthquakes shows brittleness of the upper crustal region. Research highlights: Modelling of earthquake source parameters to obtain scaling relations for Siang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. The estimated Mo, fc, r, ∆σ and Mw are 2.44 × 1011 to 6.86 × 1016 Nm, 1.03–8.04 Hz, 172.90–1392.41 m, 0.05–114.71 bar and 1.52–5.16, respectively. In this work, it is shown that early warning signals were recorded prior to a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that took place on December 29, 2020, near the Croatian city of Petrinja. The study relied on analyzing property changes in small-scale probability density fluctuations in three parameters of the Earth's magnetic field: X, Y and Z. The applied technique made it possible to identify a set of these precursors in intervals ranging from two and a half days to one day to less than one hour before this event. It has been observed that the three magnetic variation stations located at distances of approximately 300, 1000, and 1500 km from the epicenter exhibit significant differences in the occurrence of early warning signs and critical phenomena during an impending earthquake. We present the use of interconnected optical mesh networks for early earthquake detection and localization, exploiting the existing terrestrial fiber infrastructure. Employing a waveplate model, we integrate real ground displacement data from seven earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from four to six to simulate the strains within fiber cables and collect a large set of light polarization evolution data. These simulations help to enhance a machine learning model that is trained and validated to detect primary wave arrivals that precede earthquakes' destructive surface waves. The validation results show that the model achieves over 95% accuracy. The machine learning model is then tested against an M4.3 earthquake, exploiting three interconnected mesh networks as a smart sensing grid. Each network is equipped with a sensing fiber placed to correspond with three distinct seismic stations. The objective is to confirm earthquake detection across the interconnected networks, localize the epicenter coordinates via a triangulation method and calculate the fiber-to-epicenter distance. This setup allows early warning generation for municipalities close to the epicenter location, progressing to those further away. The model testing shows a 98% accuracy in detecting primary waves and a one second detection time, affording nearby areas 21 s to take countermeasures, which extends to 57 s in more distant areas. North China is one of the high-risk areas for destructive and strong earthquakes in mainland China and has experienced numerous strong historical earthquakes. An earthquake of magnitude MW 5.5 struck Pingyuan County, Dezhou city, in Shandong Province, China, on 6 August 2023. This earthquake was the strongest in the eastern North China Craton since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake. Since the earthquake did not produce surface ruptures, the seismogenic structure for fault responsible for the Pingyuan MW 5.5 earthquake is still unclear. To reveal the subsurface geological structure near the earthquake epicenter, this study used high-resolution two-dimensional (2D) seismic reflection profiles and constructed a three-dimensional (3D) geometric model of the Tuqiao Fault by interpreting the faults in the seismic reflection profiles. This study further combined focal mechanism solutions, aftershock clusters, and other seismological data to discuss the seismogenic fault of the Pingyuan MW 5.5 earthquake. The results show that the Tuqiao Fault is not the seismogenic fault of the MW 5.5 earthquake. The actual seismogenic structure may be related to the NE-oriented high-angle strike-slip blind fault developed in the basement. The present paper implements new approaches introduced in regard to pre-earthquake geo-chemical activity that results in lithosphere-atmosphere–ionosphere coupling (LAIC). Specifically, stratospheric temperature anomaly as a result of precursory atmospheric gravity wave (AGW) activity in the stratosphere is studied. A new technique is developed based on the parameters a) daily average temperature ( T mean ), b) daily maximum temperature ( T max ), c) T mean averaged over altitude, d) T max averaged over altitude. The new approach is applied to six earthquakes of Iran as well as Tohoku earthquake. Detected Anomalies are analyzed and discussed. Possible new variations such as stratospheric cooling as a result of active geomagnetic conditions are determined. Geographical maps and spatial distribution of temperature anomalies are presented to comprehend the possible source of variation. Moreover, space-based ULF emission observed by an in situ electric field detector (EFD) on board of China Seismic-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES) is presented as associated with 3 earthquakes that occurred in 2019. Detailed analysis of satellite overpass proximity to the earthquake epicenter, earthquake magnitude, and dates are examined and ULF anomalies associated with 3 magnetic field components are discussed. Smartphone location data provide the most direct field disaster distribution data with low cost and high coverage. The large-scale continuous sampling of mobile device location data provides a new way to estimate the distribution of disasters with high temporal–spatial resolution. On September 5, 2022, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Luding County, Sichuan Province, China. We quantitatively analyzed the Ms 6.8 earthquake from both temporal and geographic dimensions by combining 1,806,100 smartphone location records and 4,856 spatial grid locations collected through communication big data with the smartphone data under 24-hour continuous positioning. In this study, the deviation of multidimensional mobile terminal location data is estimated, and a methodology to estimate the distribution of out-of-service communication base stations in the disaster area by excluding micro error data users is explored. Finally, the mathematical relationship between the seismic intensity and the corresponding out-of-service rate of communication base stations is established, which provides a new technical concept and means for the rapid assessment of post-earthquake disaster distribution. On 6 February 2023, Türkiye experienced a pair of consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes of Mw 7.8 and 7.5, and accompanied by an intense aftershock sequence. These seismic events were particularly impactful on the segments of the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ), causing extensive damage to both human life and urban centers in Türkiye and Syria. This study explores the analysis of a dataset spanning almost one year following the Turkiye mainshocks, including 471 events with a magnitude of completeness (Mc) ≥ 4.4. We employed the maximum likelihood approach to estimate the b-value and Omori-Utsu parameters (K, c, and p-values). The estimated b-value is 1.21 ± 0.1, indicating that the mainshocks occurred in a region characterized by elevated stress levels, leading to a sequence of aftershocks of larger magnitudes due to notable irregularities in the rupture zone. The aftershock decay rate (p-value = 1.1 ± 0.04) indicates a rapid decrease in stress levels following the main shocks. However, the c-value of 0.204 ± 0.058 would indicate a relatively moderate or low initial productivity of aftershocks. Furthermore, the k-value of 76.75 ± 8.84 suggests that the decay of aftershock activity commenced within a range of approximately 68 to 86 days following the mainshocks. The fractal dimension (Dc) was assessed using the correlation integral method, yielding a value of 0.99 ± 0.03. This implies a tendency toward clustering in the aftershock seismicity and a linear configuration of the epicenters. The slip ratio during the aftershock activity was determined to be 0.75, signifying that 75% of the total slip occurred in the primary rupture, with the remaining fraction distributed among secondary faults. As a famous deep and large fault in eastern China, the Tanlu Fault passes through Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong and into northeastern China. It is important to improve the understanding of seismic hazard assessments in areas near faults. We start a scenario earthquake simulation in the M7.5 earthquake potential area of the Xinyi-Sihong segment of the Tanlu Fault. The fault rupture length and width are constrained according to the scaling law of large intraplate earthquakes, the background normal stress is depth dependent, and the initial shear stresses are determined using trial and error by matching the earthquake magnitude. Considering the 120 km rupture length of the M7.5 earthquake, we compare the horizontal uniform stress model and self-similar stress perturbation model. Our findings reveal that the seismic source time function of the horizontal uniform stress model is similar to that of the Haskell model and that of the self-similar stress perturbation model is more similar to that of a real earthquake case. We compare the dynamic rupture simulation and ground motion results under four different stress conditions and find that the shorter the characteristic length of the self-similar function is, the rougher the initial stress. For the M7.5 earthquake with an epicenter in the vicinity of Suqian, the Xinyi-Tancheng segment, which is located in the IX-intensity zone north of the epicenter, vibrates more strongly on the northern side than on the southern side due to the influence of the low-velocity zone and the peak slip rate. Earthquake early warning systems assess the size of an earthquake based on initial ground motion and provide warnings before the arrival of large waves. We employ the iterative regression to simultaneously estimate the station correlations and the corresponding linear relations for magnitude. We report the standard error reductions of the magnitude estimation based on the initial peak P-wave acceleration (${P_a}$ P a ), velocity (${P_v}$ P v ), and displacement (${P_d}$ P d ) as $14.52\% $ 14.52 % , $7.63\% $ 7.63 % , and $7.58\% $ 7.58 % , respectively. Factor analysis of the stationary correction reveals its correlation with several factors. Traces of past landslides were found on the seabed of Palabuhanratu Bay, West Java. This landslide is thought to have generated a tsunami, but has never been investigated before. This bay is located around the western part of the Cimandiri Fault which is an active horizontal fault with a length of 100 km. Therefore, it is necessary to study the potential impact of a tsunami in the Palabuhanratu Bay area caused by a combination of local earthquakes and underwater landslides around the bay. Evidence of past landslides was revealed through side-scan sonar data from the underwater research vessel Baruna Jaya IV in Palabuhanratu Bay, Indonesia, in 2020. The data from this survey provides evidence of debris flows (historical landslide data) at the survey site. We simulated 29 tsunami scenarios from combined landslide earthquake sources by solving shallow water nonlinear equations numerically. Tsunami sources from earthquakes are classified into three types, e.g., land faults, sea faults, and combinations of land and sea faults. While the source of the tsunami from the landslide is divided by volume. Combination of the earthquake magnitudes range from M6.80 to M7.85, and the landslide volume ranged from 3.06 × 105 m3 to 2.5 × 108 m3. This study concludes that in our scenario, the M8.12 type T7 earthquake generates the largest tsunami in the study area, followed by the T6L5 scenario with M7.85 from the Cimandiri Fault and landslide with a total volume of 2.5 × 108 m3. How to effectively mitigate atmospheric delay signals in InSAR observations has long been a pressing problem in the InSAR community. Here we propose a new method, DetrendInSAR, that addresses this issue by incorporating the spatiotemporal characteristics of displacements and atmospheric delays as a‐priori information. This enables simultaneously modeling and estimating surface displacements, atmospheric delays, and other unmodeled long‐wavelength errors (e.g., orbit errors) in InSAR time series. We use both simulated‐ and real‐data experiments to validate the performance of the proposed method, and results show a 20%–70% reduction of RMSE values for the DetrendInSAR‐obtained displacements compared with four commonly‐used atmospheric delay reduction methods. We also show that the DetrendInSAR method is capable of capturing the spatial and temporal details of sudden deformation jumps as small as 1 cm, due to a magnitude 5.4 earthquake, in InSAR time series. Based on the DetrendInSAR‐corrected ascending and descending Sentinel‐1 InSAR time series, we calculate the 2‐year postseismic east and vertical displacements of the 2021 Mw 7.4 Maduo earthquake, which better illuminate the postseismic deformation. Plate motion obliquity along the dominantly transform Queen Charlotte plate boundary (QCPB) peaks offshore Haida Gwaii. To investigate the effects of obliquity on plate boundary deformation, we analyze continuous seismic waveforms from temporary and permanent stations from 1998 to 2020 to generate a catalog of ∼50,000 earthquakes across Haida Gwaii. We use an automated technique based on auto‐regressive phase detection and onset estimation to obtain the initial seismic catalog, integrate existing catalogs, invert for 3D velocity structure using data from the best constrained period, and relocate the entire catalog using the new 3D velocity model. We investigate the seismically active sections of the transcurrent Queen Charlotte fault (QCF), noting that little seismicity locates directly along its bathymetrically defined trace. Instead, seismicity illuminates a complex system of segmented structures with variable geometries along strike. Other clusters highlight active shallow faults within the highly deformed Queen Charlotte terrace. Few aftershocks appear on the thrust plane of the 2012 Mw 7.8 Haida Gwaii earthquake except near its inferred intersection with the QCF at 15–20 km depths, suggesting elevated residual stress at the juncture of slip‐partitioning. Deep crustal seismicity (up to ∼20 km depths) beneath central Haida Gwaii aligned parallel to the strike of the thrust plane may represent landward underthrusting of the Pacific plate. Our results suggest possible coseismic strike‐slip rupture on the QCF during the 2012 earthquake and add support to the thesis that highly oblique transform boundaries are viable settings for subduction initiation. We also speculate that the 2012 earthquake may also have involved some motion on the Queen Charlotte fault. Ahi Tupua, the central section of the Taupō Volcanic Zone in the central North Island of New Zealand, encompasses Taupō and Ōkataina calderas and has been the most frequently active and productive silicic magma system worldwide during the Quaternary. The entire Taupō Volcanic Zone is underlain by the Hikurangi Subduction Zone where a Large Igneous Province, the Hikurangi Plateau, is being subducted, but Ahi Tupua exhibits much higher rates of magma output than either the northern or the southern sections. Trace element signatures of Ahi Tupua eruptive products suggest that both decompression melting and flux melting play a role in this rifted arc setting, with fluid flux signatures being more prevalent in regions of active caldera volcanism. Intermediate‐depth (50–300 km) earthquakes provide a means of studying faulting and fluid flow processes within and around the subducting slab beneath Ahi Tupua. Using data from the national seismic network and a 13‐station temporary network ("ECLIPSE"), we repick and relocate 397 intermediate‐depth earthquakes of magnitudes M2.5+ that occurred in a 29‐month interval, and compute focal mechanisms for a subset of 47 earthquakes. We observe some seismicity that may be within the mantle wedge but most of the relocated earthquakes occur within the crust and uppermost mantle of the subducted slab and exhibit a weak transition from predominantly normal‐faulting in the slab crust to predominantly reverse‐faulting in the slab mantle. No double seismic zone is observed beneath Ahi Tupua. These observations are consistent with dehydration of the slab and flow of slab‐derived fluids along existing faults into the mantle wedge, that drives flux melting and accounts for the distinctive geochemical signatures and voluminous output of Ahi Tupua calderas. In multiple observed caldera‐forming eruptions, the rock overlying a draining magma reservoir dropped downward along ring faults in sequences of discrete collapse earthquakes. These sequences are analogous to tectonic earthquake cycles and provide opportunities to examine fault mechanics and collapse eruption dynamics over multiple events. Collapse earthquake cycles have been studied with zero‐dimensional slider‐block models, but these do not account for the complicated interplay between fluid and elastic dynamics or for factors such as the heterogeneous fault properties and non‐vertical ring fault geometries often inferred at volcanoes. We present two‐dimensional axisymmetric mafic piston‐like collapse earthquake cycle models that include rate‐and‐state friction, fully‐dynamic elasticity, and compressible viscous fluid magma flow. We demonstrate that collapse earthquake intervals and magnitudes are highly sensitive to inertial effects, evolving stress fields, fault geometry, and depth‐varying fault friction. Given the consistent earthquake cycles observed in most eruptions, this suggests that ring faults can quickly stabilize and often become nearly vertical at depth. We use the well‐monitored 2018 collapse sequence at Kı̄lauea as a case study. Our model can produce many features of Kı̄lauea seismic and geodetic observations, except for a significant amount of interseismic slip, which cannot be readily explained with simple rate‐and‐state friction parameterizations. The Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) is one of the most seismically vulnerable areas due to its proximity to the Himalayas. Geographic information system (GIS)-based seismic characterization of the IGP was performed based on the degree of deformation and fractal dimension. The zone between the Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) and the Main Central Thrust (MCT) in the Himalayan Mountain Range (HMR) experienced large variations in earthquake magnitude, which were identified by Number-Size (NS) fractal modeling. The central IGP zone experienced only moderate to low mainshock levels. Fractal analysis of earthquake epicenters reveals a large scattering of earthquake epicenters in the HMR and central IGP zones. Similarly, the fault fractal analysis identifies the HMR, central IGP, and south-western IGP zones as having more faults. Overall, the seismicity of the study region is strong in the central IGP, south-western IGP, and HMR zones, moderate in the western and southern IGP, and low in the northern, eastern, and south-eastern IGP zones. We analyzed a large number (77) of low-to-medium-magnitude earthquakes (M3.5–M6.5) that occurred within a period of three years (2020–2022) in the Southern half of Greece in relation to the ELF activity in that region and time period. In most cases, characteristic ELF signals appear up to 20 days before the earthquakes. This observation may add an important new element to the Lithospheric–Atmospheric–Ionospheric scenario, thus contributing to a better prediction of incoming earthquakes. We discuss the role of ELF observations in reliable seismic forecasting. We conclude that the magnitude of an earthquake larger than M4.0 and the distance of the epicenter shorter than 300 km from the recording site is needed for typical pre-seismic signals to be observed. Finally, we remark that a reliable prediction of earthquakes could result from an integrated project of multi-instrumental observations, where all the known variety of precursors would be included, and the whole data set would be analyzed by advanced machine learning methods. Changes in deviations from the background values of the parameters of the sporadic E ionosphere (Es) are studied: the effective (virtual) height h'Es and limiting reflection frequency (foEs). Basically, the analysis was carried based on hourly measurement data from several Japanese ground stations for vertical sounding of the ionosphere in order to identify possible short-term ionospheric earthquake precursors with intermediate (from 60 to 300 km) hypocentral depths. All known events (12 earthquakes, from 1969 to 2022) are considered for which the necessary ionospheric data in the Japan region and magnitudes (M) ranging from 6.5 to 7.6 are available. From coincidence of the maxima in changes in the considered Es characteristics on the same day at pairs of stations separated by hundreds of kilometers, the time of appearance of possible ionospheric earthquake precursors was recorded. According to the ionospheric data available during the preparation period for the studied earthquakes, a tendency has been identified according to which the time the moment of the main influence is anticipated depends on the magnitude of the impending earthquake. Similarities and differences in the responses of the ionosphere to the preparation of surface (crustal) earthquakes and earthquakes with an intermediate hypocentral depth are revealed. Another tendency is also revealed: earlier appearance of the identified earthquake precursors with increasing hypocentral depth for earthquakes with an intermediate hypocentral depth at the same distances from the epicenter to the observation point. Plate-coupling estimates and previous seismicity indicate that portions of the Makran megathrust of southern Pakistan and Iran are partially coupled and have the potential to produce future magnitude 7+ earthquakes. However, the GPS observations needed to constrain coupling models are sparse and lead to an incomplete understanding of regional earthquake and tsunami hazard. In this study, we assess GPS velocities for plate coupling of the Makran subduction zone with specific attention to model resolution and the accretionary prism rheology. We use finite element model-derived Green's functions to invert for the interseismic slip deficit under both elastic and viscoelastic Earth assumptions. We use the model resolution matrix to characterize plate-coupling scenarios that are consistent with the limited spatial resolution afforded by GPS observations. We then forward model the corresponding tsunami responses at major coastal cities within the western Indian Ocean basin. Our plate-coupling results show potential segmentation of the megathrust with varying coupling from west to east, but do not rule out a scenario where the entire length of the megathrust could rupture in a single earthquake. The full subduction zone rupture scenarios suggest that the Makran may be able to produce earthquakes up to M w 9.2. The corresponding tsunami model from the largest earthquake event (M w 9.2) estimates maximum wave heights reaching 2–5 m at major port cities in the northern Arabian Sea region. Low-frequency earthquakes (LFEs) are seismic phenomena with the shortest timescale among various slow earthquakes observed on broad-band timescales. To understand the nature of such a broad-band slow phenomenon, it is important to investigate the rupture evolution process of individual slow events, such as LFEs. Here, we investigated the moment–duration relationship of LFEs at plate interfaces and volcanic regions, and showed that the moment–duration relationship of both tectonic and volcanic LFEs is characterized by a moment proportional to the cubic duration, similar to that in ordinary earthquakes. The difference between our obtained moment–duration relationship and the broad-band scaling suggests that the evolution process of LFEs may not be controlled, but only triggered by the slow earthquakes with longer durations, such as slow slip events driven by aseismic diffusion. The seismic moments of the LFEs are approximately three orders of magnitude smaller than those of ordinary earthquakes with similar durations. This result indicates that LFEs have rupture growth similar to that of ordinary earthquakes, although the rupture velocity and/or stress drop are much smaller. Considering the hypocentre spread of LFEs, the estimated rupture velocity and stress drop were approximately 100 m /s–1 km /s and 2 kPa–1 MPa, respectively. Additionally, the estimated moment magnitudes are much larger than the local magnitudes determined based on the maximum amplitudes, which is due to the longer durations and resultant smaller amplitudes of LFEs than those of ordinary earthquakes. Earthquake source parameters can be estimated using seismological observations, but the identification of the fault responsible is often complicated by location uncertainties and the inherent ambiguity between nodal planes. Satellite Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) can be used to observe ground deformation and model fault geometry but is limited by climate conditions (water vapour) and ground coverage (dense vegetation). In the tropics, the atmosphere is dynamic and most regions are densely vegetated, making detecting coseismic deformation challenging. Here, we perform a systematic inspection of coseismic interferograms from Sentinel-1 SAR images, to assess their suitability for detecting coseismic deformation in Costa Rica. Using data from the seismological network, we target seven earthquakes between 2016 and 2020 with depths |$\le \, 20$| km and magnitudes M w 5.3–6.2. For each event, we use the seismic parameters to compute line-of-sight displacements for ascending and descending geometries and for both nodal planes and generate 12- and 24-d coseismic interferograms where available. We obtain interferograms with coseismic displacement signals for three of the seven earthquakes. We invert the geodetic data to retrieve the earthquake source parameters but the lack of offshore geodetic coverage causes trade-offs between parameters and large uncertainties. The Jacó and Golfito earthquakes likely occurred on the subduction interface and the geodetic locations were 6–9 km closer to the coast than previous seismic estimates. The Burica earthquake occurred on a shallow steeply dipping thrust fault in the outer forearc. For the other earthquakes, no coseismic deformation was detected due to atmospheric noise or poor coherence. These results demonstrate the suitability of 12-d Sentinel-1 interferograms for monitoring shallow earthquakes of magnitude > M w 5.7 in Central America. This approach can be used to begin a surface deformation catalogue for the region, which will ultimately help improve the understanding of active deformation processes and improve hazard maps. Early Earthquake Warning (EEW) systems alarm about ongoing earthquakes to reduce their devastating human and financial damages. In complicated tasks like earthquake forecasting, Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions show promising results. The goal of this review is to investigate the AI-based EEW systems. Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, and PubMed databases were systematically searched from its beginning until April 18, 2023. Studies that used AI algorithms to develop EEWs and forecast earthquake magnitude were qualified. The quality assessment was conducted using the Mixed Methods Assessment Tool version 2018. Detailed analysis was performed on 26 of 2604 retrieved articles. Researchers predict earthquakes most often using neural network family models (21 studies). Among eight categorized groups of parameters for earthquake forecasting, it was often predicted utilizing seismic wave characteristics (65.38%) and seismic activity data (61.54%). AI models most often predicted earthquake magnitude (32.69%) and depth (15.38%). Logistic Model Tree and Bayesian Network had the highest sensitivity, accuracy, and F-measure efficiency (99.9%). Findings showed that AI algorithms can forecast earthquakes. However, additional study is needed to determine the efficacy of more data-driven AI algorithms in mining seismic data using more input variables. On October 28, 2022, a moment magnitude (Mw) 3.8 earthquake occurred in Goesan, South Korea, typically characterized as a stable continental region. Herein, we analyze 42 earthquakes, including the Mw 3.8 earthquake, the largest foreshock (Mw 3.3), which preceded the mainshock by 17 s, and the largest aftershock (Mw 2.9). The primary aim of this study is to identify interactions among the seismic events. To this end, we utilized the permanent seismic networks with the closest station at 8.3 km from the epicenter, and the temporary network deployed eight hours after the mainshock's occurrence. Relocation results delineate that the mainshock occurred at the southeastern tip of the hypocenter distribution of three foreshocks, trending west-northwest–east-southeast. The aftershocks form an overall spatially diffused seismic pattern that propagates toward both ends of the inferred lineament in the downdip direction. The rupture directivity of the mainshock, along with waveform similarity across the mainshock and foreshocks, confirms the inferred geometry, corresponding well with the focal mechanisms of the mainshock and the largest foreshock. We demonstrate that the change in Coulomb failure stress (ΔCFS) by the largest foreshock was positive where the mainshock occurred and that the mainshock generated ΔCFS capable of triggering the propagation of the aftershocks. A homogeneous earthquake catalogue is necessary to conduct a thorough seismological investigation and improve seismic hazard assessment. Therefore, the present study intends to determine the influence of magnitude homogenization based on different regression methods on the seismicity parameters. The earthquake catalog of the Bihar, India region has been used for the study. An events data catalogue consisting of 4001 events has been compiled over the period 1911–2023. The data is primarily sourced from international and local databases have been assembled to provide a comprehensive overview of seismic activity within the study area. Empirical relationships have been derived between moment magnitude and commonly used local and global magnitude scales by performing non-linear regressions using chi-square regression method (CSQ) and ordinary least-square regression method (OLS). Measurement error for both dependent and independent variables of various data sets was calculated for the CSQ process. In order to address the non-linear nature of the correlations, we used curvilinear models, namely, the exponential model (EXP), which was recently introduced by the authors of the global catalogue supported by the global earthquake model (GEM) foundation. The use of CSQ method reduces the bias created by OLS method for defining the nonlinearity of the relationship. Seismicity parameters, including the magnitude of completeness (Mc) and a and b values of the Gutenberg-Richter recurrence model, have been calculated for homogenised undeclustered and declustered catalogue spanning five specific time periods. Declustering has been performed to isolate the foreshocks and aftershocks from the mainshocks. The observed changes in the Mc and b values are found to be dependent on the introduction of more recent data over time. The study area has been divided into eight seismogenic zones based on the geographic variations in earthquake occurrence and the prevailing tectonic conditions. The estimation of Mc, b, and a values has been conducted for each zone, and the analysis has been performed to examine the variations in these parameters. Background: An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in Pazarcık District of Turkey at 04.17 on February 6, 2023 and another earthquake of 7.6 occurred at 13.24 on the same day. This is the second largest earthquake to have occurred in Turkey. The aim of this study is to investigate the earthquake-related level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviours, general health and psychological status of survivors who were affected by the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake and who were living in Nurdağı District of Gaziantep after the earthquake. Methods: Data of 2317 individuals older than 18 years of age who were living in earthquake neighbourhoods, tents and containers in Nurdağı District of Gaziantep were examined. Variables were evaluated to find out the demographic characteristics and general health status of earthquake victims. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) was used to find out psychological states of earthquake victims. Results: The rate of injuries was 14.2% and leg and foot injuries were the most common with 44.2%. The relationship between injury status; and age, marital status, and being trapped under debris was revealed (p < 0.05). Mean GHQ-12 score of the survivors was 3.81 ± 2.81 and 51.9% experienced psychological distress. In the evaluation with logistic regression, it was found that female gender, being injured in the earthquake, loss of first degree and second degree relatives (with a higher rate in loss of first degree relative), having a severely damaged -to be demolished house and having a completely destroyed house were correlated with higher level of psychological distress (p < 0.05). Conclusion: General characteristics, injury prevalence and affecting factors of earthquake survivors were evaluated in the present study. Psychological distress was found in victims. For this reason, providing protective and assistive services to fight the destructive effects of earthquake is vital. On 14 August 2021, an earthquake of moment magnitude Mw = 7.2 hit Haiti Island. Unfortunately, it caused several victims and economic damage to the island. While predicting earthquakes is still challenging and has not yet been achieved, studying the preparation phase of such catastrophic events may improve our knowledge and pose the basis for future predictions of earthquakes. In this paper, the six months that preceded the Haiti earthquake are analysed, investigating the lithosphere (by seismic catalogue), atmosphere (by climatological archive) and ionosphere by China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES-01) and Swarm satellites, as well as Total Electron Content (TEC) data. Several anomalies have been extracted from the analysed parameters using different techniques. A comparison, especially between the different layers, could increase or decrease the probability that a specific group of anomalies may be (or not) related to the preparation phase of the Haiti 2021 earthquake. In particular, two possible coupling processes have been revealed as part of the earthquake preparation phase. The first one was only between the lithosphere and the atmosphere about 130 days before the mainshock. The second one was about two months before the seismic event. It is exciting to underline that all the geo-layers show anomalies at that time: seismic accumulation of stress showed an increase of its slope, several atmospheric quantities underline abnormal atmospheric conditions, and CSES-01 Ne depicted two consecutive days of ionospheric electron density. We present a new geodetic strain rate and rotation rate model for Greece that has been derived using a highly dense GPS velocity field. The spatial distribution and the resolved rates of the various velocity gradient tensor quantities provided updated constraints on the present‐day upper crustal deformation in the region and revealed new details not reported previously. The spatial distribution of the second invariant demonstrated that the overall magnitude of strain rates is highest across two well‐defined provinces. The first follows the North Anatolian Fault and its two branches within the north Aegean, crosses central Greece and through the Gulf of Corinth it terminates in western Greece, while the second encompasses the extensional province of western Turkey and the eastern Aegean Sea islands. Our estimates revealed that shearing affects some of the fault‐bounded grabens of central Greece that lie to the SW of the North Aegean Basin implying considerable oblique extension. We identified a narrow region of counterclockwise rotation whose location and kinematics have been induced by the net effect across the intersection of the clockwise rotating domains of western and central Greece. The Aegean microplate and the Anatolian plate are separated by a wide transition zone which accommodates the curved stretching of the entire plate system. In both edges of the Hellenic forearc the dominant mode of crustal strain is E‐W extension. We found that earthquakes of M ≥ 5.6 are spatially well‐correlated with high‐strain areas, indicating that strain rate mapping could be used to inform future probabilistic seismic hazard analyses. Plain Language Summary: Greece and its surroundings comprise a region of elevated seismic hazard because of the intense active deformation that is accumulated in earth's crust over time and which is expected to be released as earthquakes of various magnitudes. Given the importance of this relationship, we used a dense data set of GPS velocities to gain insight into the spatial distribution and patterns of the present‐day strain and rotation rates. We found that deformation is mostly concentrated across two zones. The first crosses the North Anatolian Fault, enters the north Aegean Sea, continues in central Greece and terminates in western Greece, while the second encompasses the eastern Aegean Sea islands and western continental Turkey. Across the first zone, the crust experiences various deformation modes due to the interaction of large lithospheric‐scale tectonic structures with smaller regions of localized faulting. Within the second zone, the crust is stretching in response to differences in direction and rate of movement between the Aegean microplate and the Anatolian plate. Comparison of strain rates with seismicity revealed that earthquakes with M ≥ 5.6 predominantly occur within high‐strain areas, giving implications that knowledge of the spatial distribution of tectonic deformation can augment seismic hazard analyses. On February 6, 2023, two separate destructive earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.5 occurred in Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye. More than 50,000 people lost their lives, and over 100,000 were reported injured. In this study, patients referred to hospitals with burn diagnosis and management of burn wounds following the disaster were evaluated. Information on burn injury admissions related to the earthquake was collected from all burn facilities in the country within 15 days after the earthquake. The patients' demographics, being under rubble, rescue times, burn causes, grafting procedures, and deaths were recorded. Following the earthquake, burn victims were transferred to the 13 Burn Treatment Centers located in 10 provinces. A total of 191 patients were burned. Among the burn patients, 101 (52.9%) were rescued from the rubble 2–60 h after the earthquake. Eight patients who were hospitalized at the burn centers died. Scalding and flame burns were the most common etiologies. Burned total body surface area, concomitant crush injury, hospitalization, and mortality was higher among the patients trapped under rubble (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p < 0.001, respectively). Victims who stayed longer time under the rubble required significantly more grafting procedures (p < 0.001). In a literature review, it was observed that there are a limited number of publications reporting earthquake-related burns. In the February, 6 Türkiye earthquake, flame burns were seen due to small fires that occurred in collapsed buildings during the earthquake. And also contact burns and hot liquid burns were seen in earthquake victims trapped under rubble. Bursting hot water pipes, overturned stoves, contact with hot central heating radiators, and heated construction irons caused scalding and contact burns. It is believed that prolonged entrapment may cause delays in burn treatment or lead to deeper burns due to prolonged contact with the burning agent, increasing hospitalization rates. Earthquakes with moment magnitude (M w) ranging from 6.5 to 7.0 have been observed to generate sufficiently strong acoustic waves (AWs) in the upper atmosphere. These AWs are detectable in Global Navigation Satellite System satellite signals-based total electron content (TEC) observations in the ionosphere at altitudes ∼250–300 km. However, the specific earthquake source parameters that influence the detectability and characteristics of AWs are not comprehensively understood. Here, we extend our approach of coupled earthquake-atmosphere dynamics modelling by combing dynamic rupture and seismic wave propagation simulations with 2-D and 3-D atmospheric numerical models, to investigate how the characteristics of earthquakes impact the generation and propagation of AWs. We developed a set of idealized dynamic rupture models varying faulting types and fault sizes, hypocentral depths and stress drops. We focus on earthquakes of M w 6.0–6.5, which are considered the smallest detectable with TEC, and find that the resulting AWs undergo non-linear evolution and form acoustic shock N waves reaching thermosphere at ∼90–140 km. The results reveal that the magnitude of the earthquakes is not the sole or primary factor determining the amplitudes of AWs in the upper atmosphere. Instead, various earthquake source characteristics, including the direction of rupture propagation, the polarity of seismic wave imprints on the surface, earthquake mechanism, stress drop and radiated energy, significantly influence the amplitudes and periods of AWs. The simulation results are also compared with observed TEC fluctuations from AWs generated by the 2023 M w 6.2 Suzu (Japan) earthquake, finding preliminary agreement in terms of model-predicted signal periods and amplitudes. Understanding these nuanced relationships between earthquake source parameters and AW characteristics is essential for refining our ability to detect and interpret AW signals in the ionosphere. The Lacq area in southwest France has been associated with continuous moderate induced seismic activity since 1969. However, the mechanisms driving this induced seismicity are not fully understood: reservoir depletion has been proposed as the main factor, and more recently wastewater injection has been suggested to play a more important role. The interpretation of these mechanisms relies heavily on the quality of earthquake locations, which we prove to be weak due to a lack of local instrumentation for several years. In order to provide the most complete and reliable induced event catalogue for the studies of the Lacq induced seismicity mechanisms and seismic hazard, we made an exhaustive compilation, analysis and improvement of all available catalogues. We also provided new earthquake detections and relocations in a 3-D velocity model from past and present temporary deployments never used for studying the Lacq area. Important remaining location uncertainties lead us to also carefully sort the events according to their location confidence, defining 3 classes of events (unconstrained location, location constrained within 2–3 km and 1–2 km, respectively). This new harmonized catalogue and the identification of well-constrained events, covering 50 yr of induced seismicity, allow us to propose that wastewater injection is almost certainly the main mechanism driving the seismicity, with (i) most of the constrained events located within the reservoir boundaries and (ii) the released seismic energy variations following variations in injection operations at different scales. In particular, we have also highlighted a change in the injection–seismicity relationship around 2010–2013. From 2013, despite lower injection volumes, seismicity remained persistent and some clusters of earthquakes were detected predominantly in spring, summer and early autumn, except in winter periods. From 2016, we observed a strong temporal relationship between days with higher rate/volume injections (approximately above 400 m3 d−1) and both clustered events and higher magnitude earthquakes (greater than 2.4). Current earthquake forecasting approaches are mainly based on probabilistic assumptions, as earthquakes seem to occur randomly. Such apparent randomness can however be caused by deterministic chaos, rendering deterministic short‐term forecasts possible. Due to the short historical and instrumental record of earthquakes, chaos detection has proven challenging, but more frequently occurring slow slip events (SSE) are promising candidates to probe for determinism. Here, we characterize the SSE signatures obtained from GNSS position time series in the Hikurangi Subduction Zone (New Zealand) to investigate whether the seemingly random SSE occurrence is governed by chaotic determinism. We find evidence for deterministic chaos for stations recording shallow SSEs, suggesting that short‐term deterministic forecasting of SSEs, similar to weather forecasts, might indeed be possible over timescales of a few weeks. We anticipate that our findings could open the door for next‐generation SSE forecasting, adding new tools to existing probabilistic approaches. By studying GNSS time series from various stations on New Zealand's North Island, we have discovered evidence suggesting that these irregularly occurring slow slip events might be governed by chaotic determinism. This implies the potential to forecast both timing and magnitude of slow slip events a few weeks in advance using deterministic methods, much like we predict weather patterns. Consequently, our theoretical findings could therefore pave the way for innovative approaches to short‐term slow slip forecasting. The geophysical effects of a strong seismic event as two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.8 and 4.9 occurred on September 8, 2023, in Morocco at close times 22:11 and 22:30 UTC with an epicentral distance between the foci of ~4 km were considered. The data of a number of INTERMAGNET observatories and the magnetic recording results obtained at the Mikhnevo Geophysical Observatory of Sadovsky Institute of Geosphere Dynamics of Russian Academy of Sciences, were used. In the absence of considerable global disturbances of the Earth's magnetic field, earthquakes were accompanied by a series of three positive bay-shaped geomagnetic variations with a maximum amplitude from ~1 to ~10 nT, following each other after ~60 min. The maxima of the induced magnetic field variations were observed almost synchronously at a distance from ~800 to ~10000 km. The magnetic effect delay time relative to the main shock of the first earthquake was ~70 min. Taking into account the almost planetary nature and high synchronicity of the magnetic field disturbances caused over a significant range of distances, as well as the time delays corresponding in order of magnitude to the travel time of the seismic signal of a distance multiple of the Earth's dimension, it is suggested that the magnetic effect of the seismic event in question was caused by a global source such as an excited geodynamo. The ionospheric effect of the seismic event under consideration is reported as variations in the critical frequency f0F2 calculated from the data obtained by the ground-based sounding station of the del Ebre Observatory. Numerous significant earthquakes have occurred along the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ), Türkiye's most important fault zone. An earthquake with magnitude of Mw 6.0 occurred near the Gölyaka District of Düzce Province at 04:08 local time on November 23, 2022. According to the moment tensor solutions published by national and international seismology centers, the earthquake occurred at the northeast end of the Karadere segment within the NAFZ and was caused by a right-lateral strike-slip fault in the NW-SE direction. In this study, the differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) method was employed to analyze the deformation. Four Sentinel-1A complex datasets were used, two of which were ascending (2022/11/15 and 2022/11/27) and two of which were descending (2022/11/14 and 2022/11/26) pre- and postearthquake, to determine the deformation that occurred after the earthquake. In addition, surface deformation movements in both the east-west and vertical directions were calculated using these two data sets. Elastic dislocation modeling was performed by applying linear and nonlinear inversion to determine slip distribution related to the fault structure, using the displacement amount obtained from DInSAR results and data obtained from the Global Centroid Moment Tensor (GCMT) catalog. Based on the findings from the DInSAR analysis, subsidence of approximately 5 cm and eastward movement of 8 cm were detected on the northern block of the Düzce segment. This right-lateral movement corresponds to an area of approximately 105 km² northwest of the Düzce segment. On the southern block of the Düzce segment, elevation of about 3 cm and westward movement of about 3 cm were observed. Elastic dislocation modeling shows that the observed deformation model can be explained by slip on a single planar fault for the Gölyaka-Düzce earthquake. A right-lateral strike-slip fault with northwest dip was observed, extending down to a slip-centroid depth approximately 9.2 km within the upper crust region. The elastic slip modeling in this half-space resulted in a slip of 0.35 m, Mw of 6.1, strike of 264°, dip of 66°, and rake of --165°. This study reveals that the Düzce segment was the location where the earthquake occurred, but it is also believed that the Karadere segment was impacted by this seismic event. Overall, the study provides information about the occurrence of the Gölyaka-Düzce earthquake, subsequent deformation, and the elastic fault model in half-space. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a scalable end-to-end tree boosting system called XGBoost has been applied for predicting the magnitude of an earthquake from the early part of earthquake waveform data. This model uses the features extracted from the early P wave phase of the records as an input. The model's effectiveness has been verified by using data on earthquakes occurring in the Eurasian plate of Japan Islands from 1996 to 2021. Feature engineering has given 29 new features identified from the early P wave phase of the record, which show a high correlation with the magnitude of an earthquake. The comparison of predicted and actual magnitude shows that a trained XGboost model, which uses a single input record for magnitude prediction, gives an average prediction error of 0.004 ± 0.57 for earthquakes in the test dataset. In contrast, the average prediction error of –1.1 ± 0.80 and –0.65 ± 0.69 has been obtained for the magnitude estimated from conventional τc and Pd methods using the same test dataset. It is further seen that the average predicted magnitude of a single earthquake of magnitude 4.5 and 6.1 (MJMA) obtained by using multiple nearfield records using XGBoost model is 4.58 ± 0.33 and 6.32 ± 0.29, which is close to the actual magnitude of the earthquake. The results presented in this paper clearly show that the structured data can be effectively used by complex machine learning or deep learning models to predict earthquake magnitude from single or multiple records. In our study, we estimated earthquake source parameters and spectral decay characteristics of 378 seismograms corresponding to 80 small earthquake events with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 3.5. These earthquakes occurred between July 2011 and May 2012 in the Siang region of the Arunachal Himalaya which is not well-studied. To estimate source parameters, the classical Brune model is employed and through the analysis, a scaling relationship is established between the estimated corner frequency ( f c ) and seismic moment ( M 0 ), which can be expressed as M 0 = 1 × 1 0 22 f c - 3.18 . This relationship is in close agreement with previous studies conducted in the Arunachal and Himachal Himalaya regions. It provides support for deviations from self-similarity in the study area, offering valuable insights into the tectonics and structural heterogeneity beneath the Arunachal Himalaya. Our analysis revealed variations in source radius, ranging from 154.4 m to 312.6 m, and seismic moment, spanning from 2.37 × 1011 N-m to 9.32 × 1013 N-m. Interestingly, we observed an increasing trend in stress drop, ranging from 0.013 MPa to 3.26 MPa, within the same range of seismic moment. This significant variation in stress drop primarily occurs in the upper 10–15 km of the Earth's crust, indicating shear brittle failure in this upper crustal region. Furthermore, we conducted an in-depth examination of spectral parameters, including f c high-cut frequency (fmax), and high-frequency spectral decay parameter kappa (κ). Our study highlighted the dependence of κ and fmax estimates on both source characteristics and propagation path, with the source having the most substantial influence. This observation was substantiated through statistical analyses. Additionally, we explored the effect of recording site characteristics on κ and observed a significant contribution of shallow geology at the recording site. This was evident through a negative correlation between the site component of κ (κ0) and VS30, indicating that the local geology of the recording site plays a significant role in spectral parameter estimation. Based on our comprehensive data analysis and statistical observations, we conclude that the variations in source and decay parameters for earthquakes of different magnitudes are attributed to the diverse structural heterogeneities and complex seismotectonic processes underlying the Arunachal Himalaya region. On 15 January 2023, a shallow, moderate earthquake with a magnitude (Mw) of 4.7 and a depth of one kilometer struck the northern part of Leyte Island in the central Philippines. Originating along the northern Leyte segment of the Philippine Fault, a well-established creeping fault, the earthquake caused significant geologic, structural, and socio-economic impacts despite its low magnitude. Probable surface rupture and landslides were reported, leading to a comprehensive field investigation. Our investigation revealed an ~8 km discontinuous surface rupture along the northern Leyte segment of the Philippine Fault, with a maximum left-lateral displacement of 2 cm. This was the first documented occurrence of such a phenomenon associated with an earthquake of a magnitude less than 6, particularly along a creeping fault segment. The maximum ground shaking felt was reported on the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS) to be VI (very strong), equivalent to a Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) of VI along the fault strike. However, strong motion accelerographs recorded a peak ground acceleration (PGA) of 0.407 g, equivalent to PEIS VIII (very destructive), attributed to local site amplification influenced by subsurface geology. In the area where the local site amplification occurred, limited liquefaction was observed on marshlands with recent and alluvial deposits. Two landslides were observed in the mountainous area west of the fault. Structural damages were noted in areas with PEIS VI intensity and areas transected by the surface rupture. Despite the earthquake's low magnitude, the event documented significant impacts, including surface ruptures, liquefaction, landslides, and severe structural damage. The peculiarities of this event are attributed to the shallowness of the earthquake source, and local site conditions, including geology, geomorphology, and soil properties, contributed to the severity of the impacts. Moderate in size, this earthquake emphasizes the importance of documenting moderate-sized earthquakes as a tool and guide for medium- and long-term earthquake risk assessment and resiliency.
