Background: The coronavirus disease emerged in 2019, spread in Turkey as all over the world rapidly. In this process, young people began to experience some mental problems due to the fear of contagion, as well as some changes in their lifestyles. Aims: In this study it is aimed to investigate anxiety and depression levels of medical school students and the factors associated with these mental problems. Method: The forms were sent over the internet to the officials responsible for medical education at universities in various regions of Turkey. A total of 2,778 medical faculty students were included in the study. Students were asked to fill out the sociodemographic data form, the Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 (PHQ-9), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) Test. Results: Students' 67.3% were female and 31.7% were male. About 90.2% of the students in the PHQ-9 scale had depressive symptoms in the major depressive disorder (MDD) dimension, and 44.5% in the GAD-7 scale had moderate/severe anxiety symptoms. Gender, being a preclinical student, history of psychiatric treatment in the past, currently receiving psychiatric treatment, death of someone due to pandemic, economic and health situation, perception of mental health were found associated with MDD and Moderate/Severe Anxiety symptoms. Students with Anxiety and MDD reported significantly more anxiety about contamination and negative beliefs about precautions' sufficiency. Conclusions: It was determined that medical school students in our country showed anxiety and depression at a remarkable level during the pandemic. Examining the underlying causes of these high rates will be beneficial in terms of taking precautions during the long-term pandemic. In literature, there are a limited number of studies on this subject in our country, we believe that our study will be useful in future studies to determine the underlying causes of mental illnesses and what can be done to help students. Objective: Trophectoderm (TE) cells are the first differentiating cells in embryo development and have epithelial features. TE cells, which associate with implantation of the blastocyst into the uterine endometrium, contribute to the formation of the placenta. Inner cells mass (ICM) together with TE cells are used for determining embryo quality. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of TE and ICM cells on pregnancy outcome in 5th day blastocyst transferred in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) pregnancy. Material and Methods: This was a retrospective study using data from all patients who applied for blastocyst transfer IVF between January 2015 and March 2019 at the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Center of Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. ALPHA İstanbul consensus evaluation system was used for grading of the blastocyst. The embryo quality, expansion, ICM and TE morphology of the 5th day transferred blastocyst was assessed, together with abortion rate, live birth rate, pregnancy complications, and pregnancy outcomes. Results: There was a significantly increased risk of preeclampsia (PE) (7.8% vs 1.1%; p=0.041), preterm delivery (PD) (36% vs 17.7%; p=0.037), and antenatal bleeding rates (13.6% vs 5%; p=0.021) in TE-C compared to the TE-A + TE-B blastocysts. Furthermore, a higher rate of obstetric complications was observed in ICM-C compared to ICM-A and B (p=0.003). There was a significant correlation between TE morphology and implantation success, ongoing pregnancy rate, and abortion incidence. Conclusion: These results suggest that TE cell morphology is related to implantation success and pregnancy outcomes, especially in terms of the risk of abortion, PE, PD, and antenatal bleeding. It may be advisable to counsel women concerning possible poor obstetric outcome due to poor ICM quality. Future prospective and controlled studies are needed to clarify this association. Aim: Carbon monoxide poisoning is one of the significant causes of intoxication and presentation to pediatric emergency departments, especially in winter. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the demographic characteristics, and clinical and laboratory findings of pediatric patients who presented to the pediatric emergency department with carbon monoxide poisoning, and the secondary aim was to examine the laboratory values of the patients with impaired consciousness. Material and Methods: The demographic and clinical characteristics and laboratory values of 162 patients presented to the pediatric emergency department due to carbon monoxide poisoning between 2017 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The laboratory parameters of the patients with and without symptoms of impaired consciousness were compared. Results: The mean age of the patients was 8.94±5.33 years, and the gender distribution was homogenous. The highest frequency of presentation was during winter. Nausea, vomiting, and headache were the most common symptoms. Fifteen of the patients had impaired consciousness. While the laboratory values of the patients were generally within normal ranges, patients with high carboxyhemoglobin, lactate, and troponin values, and low pH were encountered. The carboxyhemoglobin and lactate levels of patients with impaired consciousness were found to be significantly higher than the patients without impaired consciousness (p<0.001 and p=0.019, respectively). Conclusion: Elevated carboxyhemoglobin and lactate levels were associated with impaired consciousness. Although carboxyhemoglobin levels are important for diagnosis and clinical follow-up, they should not be used as the only marker. Objective: To investigate the effect of the variability of Nas, Cls, Ks, lactate values and sodium effect (NaEffect), chloride effect (ClEffect), non-lactate strong ion difference (SIDnl) values calculated according to Stewart's approach on predicting intensive care unit (ICU) mortality. Methods: The study was conducted on 1 539 patients, retrospectively. Serum Na (Nas), serum Cl (Cls), serum K (Ks), serum Ca (Cas), serum Mg (Mgs), lactate, pH values and SIDnl, NaEffect, ClEffect, APACHE ? (first, last), and SOFA (first, last) scores were recorded. Radiometer ABL 800 (Denmark) was used for blood gas analysis. The variability of each parameter was calculated. The effect of variability of each parameter on 30-day ICU mortality was analyzed. Results: The variability of lactate (P<0.001, OR=0.580, 95% CI=0.505-0.652), pH (P=0.001, OR=0.004, 95% CI=0.000-0.104), NaEffect (P<0.001, OR=0.550, 95% CI=0.378-0.592), Ks (P<0.001, OR=0.385, 95% CI=0.244-0.565) values were protective factors of ICU mortality and Cls value was a risk factor (P=0.004, OR=1.095, 95% CI=1.024-1.164). Variability of ClEffect, SIDnl values did not affect ICU mortality. Conclusions: The variability of electrolytes is important. Background/Aim: Urinary system stone disease creates a significant burden on the health system. Many treatment methods are available, including extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), endourological procedures, and open and laparoscopic procedures. In recent years, in parallel with technological developments, endourological devices have become more usable in the renal system. For this reason, urologists are opting for endourological procedures more frequently. ESWL is the least invasive procedure for urinary system stone disease, and it has a higher success rate in pediatric patients than in adults. In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed the data from the pediatric cases in which we used ESWL treatment in our clinic. We aimed to reveal the effectiveness of ESWL and the factors that will increase the success rate of this procedure in light of the current literature. Methods: The files of patients aged 16 years and under who underwent ESWL at the Urology Clinic of University of Health Sciences Sanliurfa Mehmet Akif Inan Training and Research Hospital between January 2010 and December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Age, gender, stone area, stone localization, number of sessions, energy and frequency used, complete stone-free status, and secondary intervention requirement were recorded. The absence of stone fragments or the presence of fragments smaller than 3 mm only in imaging after ESWL was considered a success. Results: This study included 433 pediatric patients. The mean age of the patients was calculated as 12.02 (4.67) (range: 1-16) years. The most important factors affecting the number of residual stones were stone localization (P = 0.045) and size (P < 0.001). When stone localization was compared according to patient age, the older patients were found to have a significantly higher rate of stones in the proximal ureter than in the lower calyx of the kidney (P = 0.045) and renal pelvis (P = 0.048). Conclusion: Although there are continual advances in other minimally invasive surgical methods today, ESWL is a treatment method that can be safely applied in pediatric patients. Introduction: We aimed to determine the frequency of drug allergy and the risk factors associated with drug allergy with a standard questionnaire to be answered by the participants. Methods: In this study, we prepared and administered a questionnaire to inquire about drug allergy, recurrence of allergy, clinical findings, treatment for allergy, and accompanying comorbidities in outpatients admitted to the internal medicine clinic. Results: A total of 261 (138 men and 123 women) participants were included in this study. The prevalence of drug allergy was 36.8% in the study. It was observed that the most common cause of drug allergy was antibiotics (22.7%), acetylsalicylic acid (antipyretic drugs) (14.4%), and gastric protectors (10.3%). Among the allergic symptoms, urticaria (24.7%) stands first, angioedema (23.7%) second, and hematological problems third (15.5%). The fourth and the fifth are eye findings (13.4%) and skin findings (12.4%), respectively. The history of asthma and drug allergy in first-degree relatives was significantly higher in the group with drug allergy (p<0.001). Male gender, latex allergy, asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, diabetes, and recurrent urinary tract infection were risk factors associated with drug allergy. Discussion and Conclusion: In this study, the prevalence of drug allergy was found to be 36.8% in patients who applied to the Internal Medicine Clinic. Introduction: Total body irradiation (TBI) with megavolt photon energy is a treatment that can be applied before bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in many hematologic diseases. Two-dimensional TBI (2D-TBI) is one of the oldest RT techniques. We performed a retrospective study to evaluate the radiotherapy (RT)-related acute adverse events in pediatric patients with TBI. Methods: Patients who received TBI between January 1, 2021, and December 30, 2021, in the Radiation Oncology Clinic of Ankara City Hospital were evaluated retrospectively. The primary endpoint of the study was the assessment of RT-related acute adverse events (RT-AE). The Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 5.0 was used for RT-AE. Results: Twenty-one pediatric patients treated with 2D-TBI between February 20, 2021, and October 10, 2021, have been retrospectively analyzed. The median follow-up period is 7 (range 1-14) months. The median age of the patients is 11 (range 2-17) years. The median time to BMT following TBI is 4 (range 3-13) days. A total of 12 Gy was applied to 15 (71.4%) patients diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia. A total of 3 Gy was applied to 5 (23.8%) patients due to aplastic anemia and thalassemia major. A total of 4 Gy was applied to 1 (4.8%) patient who had anaplastic large cell lymphoma. In the first week after TBI, all 21 (100%) patients were neutropenic in grade 3 or higher. One day after TBI, there was a 23.4% increase in grade 3 or higher leukopenia [p=0.042; OR (95% CI) 0.278 (0.132-0.585)]. Discussion and Conclusion: The 2D-TBI is applied with acceptable toxicity. Background: During the COVID‐19 pandemic, there were difficulties in planning the nursing workforce and personal protective equipment. Aim: The purpose of this study was to identify the experiences and views of nurses on personal protective equipment use and nursing workforce planning in Turkey. Methods: This descriptive and cross‐sectional study was conducted between 23 December 2020 and 3 May 2021, among 362 nurses who agreed to participate in this study voluntarily. Results: The findings showed that the satisfaction scores were significantly higher for those nurses who worked in 8‐h shifts, were not assigned to different clinics, were notified by an official letter and 1 week or month in advance before assignment compared with nurses in other categories. Conclusions: The problems that have arisen in the COVID‐19 pandemic process have made it clear that there is a need for a nursing services management model in the event of an epidemic. Implications for Nursing Management: This study reveals the need for the 'Nursing Services Management Model in the Event of an Epidemic' by discussing the problems of nurse workforce planning and protective personal equipment management from the perspective of nurses who experienced these problems at first hand. Background/Aim: The definitive diagnosis of COVID-19 disease is made by demonstrating the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in nasopharyngeal swab samples. In patients who present with COVID-19-like symptoms but are found to be PCR negative, lung tomography, physical examination, and specific laboratory findings can guide diagnosis and treatment. This study aims to retrospectively evaluate the clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings of patients who presented with Covid-19-like symptoms. but were found to be PCR negative. Methods: This study was planned as a retrospective cohort study. Patients hospitalized in the pandemic service of Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University between 19 March and 30 September 2020 - who were PCR negative and defined as possible cases through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up guidelines of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health, were included. Of these patients, those without radiological pulmonary involvement were defined as group A, and those with radiological pulmonary involvement were defined as group B. Clinical and laboratory findings of both groups were evaluated and compared. Results: In the lung tomographic examination of 238 patients in the study, 16.4% in group A without radiological lung findings and 83.6% in group B with signs of inflammation were identified. While common complaints were high fever and diarrhea in group A, cough and shortness of breath were significantly higher in group B. The most common comorbidities in both groups were hypertension and diabetes, respectively, while hypertension was found to be significantly higher in group B. There was no mortality in any patient without lung involvement, but there was no significant difference between groups in terms of mortality. Conclusion: These techniques can be used in PCR-negative patients presenting with COVID-19, for an estimation of patients with a severe prognosis with pulmonary tomography findings, symptoms, laboratory results, and accompanying disease at the time of admission. Objective: Vitamin B12 deficiency causes hematologic and neuropsychiatric disorders, thus it is important to evaluate it in risky situations. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association between somatostatin receptor ligands and vitamin B12 in patients with acromegaly. Methods: Patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of acromegaly in the Endocrinology and Metabolism outpatient clinic of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty were evaluated. Patients were divided into groups according to their somatostatin receptor ligand use status. The groups were evaluated according to their vitamin B12 levels, demographic data, and biochemical parameters. Results: One hundred fifty-two patients were evaluated. Thirteen patients had vitamin B12 deficiency. The majority (11/13) of patients with vitamin B12 deficiency were using somatostatin receptor ligands. In addition, the number of patients with vitamin B12 deficiency who received lanreotide autogel treatment was significantly higher compared with patients who did not use somatostatin receptor ligands (P = .011). Vitamin B12 levels were higher in patients who received lanreotide autogel treatment than in patients who did not use SRL treatment (P = .040). There was a negative correlation between vitamin B12 levels and lanreotide autogel use time and the cumulative lanreotide autogel dose. Conclusion: It is important to evaluate vitamin B12 levels in the follow-up of patients with acromegaly receiving somatostatin receptor ligand therapy because these patients have lower levels of vitamin B12 compared with patients who do not use somatostatin receptor ligand therapy. Objective: This study was carried out to determine the effect of self-management support given to patients diagnosed with hypertension on the hypertension knowledge level, treatment adherence and self-care management, and to examine the changes in patients' blood pressure after the self-management support. Background: The rise of chronic diseases such as hypertension necessitates the equipment of patients with sufficient knowledge and skills necessary to manage their disease and self-care. Methods: This randomised controlled research was conducted with a total of 137 patients, including 69 intervention and 68 control patients. Data were collected using the "Patient Information Form", "Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale", "Hill-Bone Compliance to High Blood Pressure Therapy Scale" and "Self Care Management Process in Chronic Illness Scale" at the first interview and the last interview three months after the first interview. One week after the first interview, the patients in the intervention group received self-management support including information about hypertension and its management and blood pressure measurement skills. results: After self-management support, a significant improvement was found in hypertension knowledge level (p=0.000), treatment adherence (p=0.000), and self-care management (p=0.000) of patients in the intervention group A significant decrease was determined in systolic (p=0.000) and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.000) of patients in the intervention group. conclusion: Self-management support has shown positive effects in increasing hypertension knowledge level, adherence to hypertension treatment, self-care management, and blood pressure control in patients diagnosed with hypertension. This study also provides nurses with an approach in which they can effectively use training and counselling roles for patients. implications for research, policy, and practice: Patients diagnosed with hypertension should be educated by nurses about the disease. Nurses should teach the patients who are diagnosed with hypertension the ability to monitor their blood pressure at home. Cardiovascular rehabilitation nursing units should be established in hospitals to provide more effective self-management support to hypertensive patients. We conducted a randomized controlled study of the effects of a hot shower on pain, anxiety, and comfort during the first stage of labor. Our sample included 104 primigravidas. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of duration of labor, yet the transition phase time of the experimental group was lower compared to the control group. Also, the pain and scores of the experimental group were significantly lower than the control group in 4, 5-7, and 8-10 cm dilatation. In addition, the total comfort score of the experimental group was higher than the control group. We determined that the application of a hot shower in the first stage of labor reduces pain and anxiety has a positive effect on birth comfort and shortens the transition phase time. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the notch and shape variations of the glenoid cavity (GC), to emphasize its clinical importance, and compare it with the previous studies. Material and Methods: This study was performed with 157 (78 right sides, 79 left sides) adult Anatolian dry scapulae. The GCs were typed as oval, pear, and inverted comma shaped and noted the number of GC notch. Results: The most common GC shape was found as the pear shaped with 63 (80.8%) at the right side, 49 (62%) at the left side, and 112 (71.4%) in total. The second most common GC shape was found as oval shaped with 13 (16.6%) at the right side, 28 (35.5%) at the left side, and 41 (26.1%) in total. The glenoid notch was found at the right side, left side, and totally; 28 (35.9%), 19 (24.1%), and 47 (29.9%), respectively. All of the inverted comma shaped GCs had distinct glenoid notch, while the oval shaped GCs not. The pear shaped GCs had indistinct glenoid notch or no glenoid notch. The glenoid notch was found at the right side, left side, and totally on the pear shaped GC; 26 (41.3%), 17 (34.7%), and 43 (38.4%), respectively. Conclusion: Pear shaped GC was found as the most (71.4%) common shape in this study. Forty-seven (29.9%) of the scapulae had a glenoid notch. The notch and shape variations of the GC are important and this study will contribute to anatomists, orthopedists, and radiologists from this perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: The impact of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) on geriatric trauma presenting to the emergency department is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To examine geriatric trauma emergency department admission trends during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: This retrospective, observational, comparison study was conducted in an academic emergency department in Turkey. Trauma patients 65 years and older who presented to the emergency department within 1 year of March 12, 2020, were included. Patients admitted in the same date range in the previous year were included as the control group. The characteristics of the patients, injured area, and injury mechanisms were compared. RESULTS: Geriatric trauma admissions decreased (relative risk = 0.71, odds ratio [OR] = 0.69 [95% confidence interval, CI: 0.62, 0.77], p <.001). According to the type of injury, there was no significant difference in admissions to the emergency department (p =.318). During the pandemic, there was an increase in falls and a decrease in stab wounds and gunshot wounds (p =.001). Multiple trauma (OR = 5.56 [95% CI: 3.75, 8.23], p <.001), fall (OR = 2.41 [95% CI: 1.6, 3.73], p <.001), and-assault related injuries (OR = 4.43 [95% CI: 2.06, 9.56], p <.001) were determined as factors that increased the admissions to the emergency department compared with the prepandemic. CONCLUSION: Although geriatric trauma emergency department admissions decreased during the pandemic, those due to falls and assaults increased. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate the relationship between cord 25-hydroxyvitamin D level and bronchopulmonary dysplasia and other neonatal morbidities (sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis, intraventricular hemorrhage, patent ductus arteriosus, respiratory distress syndrome, retinopathy of prematurity) in preterm neonates. STUDY DESIGN: Infants aged <32 gestational weeks who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit between March 2014 and November 2014 were enrolled in this prospective study. Cord blood samples were obtained during delivery. 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was measured using an automatic biochemical analyzer. Patients were divided into two groups according to their 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels: 25-hydroxyvitamin D <20 ng/mL and 25-hydroxyvitamin D =20 ng/mL. We used descriptive statistics and multiple regression models to identify risk factors associated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia. RESULTS: Sixty premature infants were analyzed in this study. The mean cord 25-hydroxyvitamin D level was 13,8±6,8 ng/mL (range 3,5-30,7 ng/mL). Eighty percent of the patients (48/60) had 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels <20 ng/mL. Among the infants, 21 (35%) developed bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia had higher frequencies of 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency than the non-bronchopulmonary dysplasia group (p=0.028). Duration of hospitalization was also longer in infants with low levels of cord 25-hydroxyvitamin D. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between infants with and without vitamin D deficiency with respect to respiratory distress syndrome, patent ductus arteriosus, retinopathy of prematurity, necrotizing enterocolitis, sepsis, and intraventricular hemorrhage. CONCLUSION: This study shows the high rate of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women in the central Anatolian region (Sivas) of Türkiye. Low cord 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels were associated with an increased risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and prolonged hospitalization in very preterm infants. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aim to compare the maternal and obstetric outcomes between local adolescent Turkish citizens and adolescent Syrian refugees admitted to a tertiary care center in Türkiye. STUDY DESIGN: Between January 2014 and December 2019, a total of 57,049 births were performed in our hospital. The study included a total of 6,021 patients aged 19 years or younger pregnancy who gave birth at our hospital. Of this number, 5,164 (1,792 Syrian adolescent refugee cases and 3,372 local adolescent Turkish cases) were live singleton pregnancies. Our primary aim was to compare the maternal and obstetric outcomes between the two groups. RESULTS: In the pregnant refugee women, the maternal age was younger (p<0.001). Hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are significantly lower in Syrian pregnant women (p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). Anemia was significantly higher in Syrian refugee pregnant women (p<0.001). The double screening test and triple screening test were significantly lower in Syrian pregnant women (p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). Preterm birth rates and late preterm delivery prevalence (34-37 gestational weeks) were significantly higher in the adolescent Syrian immigrants' compared to the adolescent Turkish locals (p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). The average birth weight of the Syrian refugees was lower but the number of low birth weight babies was higher Turkish locals (p=0.010 and p=0.014, respectively). The preterm birth ratio and low birth weight ratio in Syrian adolescents has decreased over the years. CONCLUSION: Syrian adolescent refugees are particularly at risk of early pregnancy, high fertility rate, preterm birth, low birth weight, and anemia. Immigrant women should be provided with fertility, family planning, and training on behavior that protects reproductive health. Syrian pregnant women should be supported to receive services. Objectives: This study aims to determine the contamination incidence rate of bone fragments that have been dropped on the floor of the operating theatre, as well as how effective antimicrobial solutions are at decontaminating them. Methods: Bone fragments obtained after 30 total knee arthroplasties were used in the study. Inert pieces of bone emerging after the bone cuts during total knee arthroplasty were divided into 1 × 1 cm fragments. The bone fragments were first left in free fall on the floor of the operating theatre and then were kept in a number of antimicrobial solutions for 15 s. Subsequently, they were microbiologically and histopathologically examined. A swab culture was also taken from the floor of the operating theatre. Results: It was determined that 63.3% of osteochondral fragments in the non-intervened group were contaminated. Growth was likewise detected in all swab cultures. Microorganisms growing in the swab culture and the non-intervened group were similar and mostly Staphylococcus epidermidis and Klebsiella pneumoniae. When the growth rates of the 10% povidone-iodine and 4% chlorhexidine gluconate groups were compared with the growth rate of the non-intervened group, a statistical difference was found. No difference was determined between the growth rates of the sodium hypochlorite and the non-intervened groups. The histopathological analysis revealed no statistical difference between the groups in terms of bone marrow, vascular structure, fat tissue, and osteoblastic activity results in the osteochondral fragments Conclusion: Bone tissues dropped from a sterile area on the floor of the operating theatre are highly contaminated. An effective decontamination without bone cell toxicity was achieved using povidone-iodine. Although chlorhexidine gluconate solution had an effective decontamination effect compared to the non-intervened group, it was not 100% effective. This study was conducted to determine the effect of correct handwashing and mask-wearing training on COVID-19 fear and generalized anxiety in cardiac patients. Randomized controlled experimental study with the formation of intervention and control groups. The study (triple-blind) was conducted between August 11 and November 17, 2020, in the cardiology clinic of a tertiary hospital in western Turkey. The pre-study sample size was calculated as a minimum 45 at 80% strength, 0.05 significance level, and 0.60 influence quantity for each group. 112 volunteers meeting the criteria were included in the study. The study was completed with a total of 105 individuals in the intervention group (n=50) and control group (n=53). The post-study strength was (1- β) =1. This study was performed in five stages: (1) collection of data, (2) randomization, (3) providing training, (4) contacting the intervention and control groups for follow-up a month later, and (5) collection of the follow-up data. The training provided to cardiac patients increased the correct handwashing technique (U=36.00; p<0.001) and the correct mask-wearing technique (U=99.00; p<0.001) and decreased COVID-19 fear (U=883.5; p<0.001) and anxiety (U=751.0; p<0.001) (p <.05). It can be considered that the training provided to the cardiac patients in preventing COVID-19 may also be suitable for other risk groups. INTRODUCTION: Nucleated red blood cells and immature granulocytes are not normally detected in the blood of healthy adults. We aimed to investigate the effect of nucleated red blood cells and immature granulocytes on mortality in order to identify critically ill patients who were admitted to the emergency department, at high risk of death, and who was not traumatic. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was performed retrospectively in the emergency department of a tertiary education and research hospital between January 2021 and June 2021. All patients who died out of trauma and patients who were discharged from the emergency department on the same day were included. Nucleated red blood cells and immature granulocytes parameters were compared between the two groups. The primary outcome was all-cause death in the emergency department. RESULTS: Of the 188 patients included in the study, 129 (68.6%) were male. Nucleated red blood cells (1.88 ± 6.9/µL; 0.02 ± 0.08), % immature granulocytes (2.91 ± 3.04/µL; 0.58 ± 1.63) and immature red blood cells in deceased patients' granulocyte count (0.38 ± 0.46/µL; 0.04 ± 0.04) was significantly more significant than the control group (p < 0.001). When the area under the curve was examined, the highest value was found in nucleated red blood cells (Area under the curve = 0.920, p < 0.001). In multivariate regression analysis, high nucleated red blood cells, immature granulocyte count, and white blood cell levels were associated with all-cause mortality in the emergency department. Objective: The aim of the research was to determine the effect of education given to the women with hearing impairments on the behaviours of Pap smear test. Methods: This study was a controlled trial study with longitudinal design. The sample consisted of 156 women (intervention = 78, control = 78) who registered in hearing‐impaired associations in Izmir, Turkey. The education about cervical cancer and Pap smear test was given to intervention group with face‐to‐face interviews by using Turkish sign language. Three months later, the women were contacted and asked whether they have had a Pap smear test, and the total knowledge score of intervention groups was evaluated. Results: There was not a statistically significant difference between the mean total score of knowledge about cervical cancer and Pap smear test in intervention (0.6 ± 1.6) and control (1.1 ± 1.9) groups. After 3 months, having a Pap smear test was found to be statistically significantly higher between groups (intervention = 29.5%, control = %1.2), and the mean cervical cancer and Pap smear knowledge score of the intervention group (9.2 ± 1.4) was found to be statistically significantly higher than the score before education (0.6 ± 1.6). Objective: Breast self‐examination is an important component for the early detection of breast cancer. The lack of knowledge of deaf women regarding breast examination and screenings may delay diagnosis of breast cancer. The objective of the study is to examine the effect of a video prepared with the sign language giving breast self‐examination (BSE) skills to deaf women. Methods: This study used a quantitative, quasi‐experimental, comparison group research design. Participants were recruited from the Izmir Association for the Protection and Development of the Deaf, Izmir, Turkey. The research was conducted between March 2018 and March 2019. BSE training video was prepared by the researchers. One group (n = 30) watched a BSE training video with sign language. The other group (n = 30) watched a BSE training video without sign language. After the training video, the BSE Skill Assessment of all women were assessed on a female torso mannequin model using BSE Skill Assessment Form. Results: The BSE skills of the women who watched the training video with sign language were significantly different from those who watched the training video without sign language (p < 0.05). Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of therapeutic touch (TT) on spiritual care and sleep quality in patients receiving palliative care. Design and Methods: The research was conducted on 73 inpatients receiving palliative care in a training and research hospital. Data were collected with Socio‐Demographic Status Questionnaire, Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale (SSCRS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Findings: As a result of this study, a statistically significant difference was found between the intervention and control group SSCRS (Z = −7.356 p = 0.000) and PSQI (Z = −7.292 p = 0.000) in post‐test data after 4 weeks of TT application. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the sociodemographic characteristics and the mental, anogenital, and physical examination findings of child and adolescent sexual abuse victims and to discuss them in the light of the literature. Materials and Methods: This study included a total of 134 children and adolescent cases between the ages of 0 and 18 who were victims of sexual abuse, from among the reports prepared in the Forensic Medicine Clinic of Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal Training and Research Hospital between 2015 and 2019. Results: This study included 134 cases: 113 (84.3%) were female and 21 (15.7%) were male. The mean age was 13 ± 3.4 years (min: 3, max: 17). The average age of the defendants was 25.6 ± 13 years (min: 12, max: 75), and all the defendants were male. The defendants were strangers in 60 cases (4.8%). Sexual abuse mostly occurred as vaginal penetration in 46 cases (34.3%). Sixty--nine (51.5%) cases were exposed to abuse more than once. Depression due to sexual abuse developed in 14 (10.4%) of the cases. Conclusion: Considering that many child abuse victims have normal examination findings, it should not be forgotten that the interview and psychiatric examination with the child are as valuable as the genital examination. The purpose of the study is to determine the effectiveness of the "My Body is Special" Training Program (MBS-TP), which was developed using the creative drama method to gain information about body recognition and body safety in preventing sexual abuse in children. This is an experimental study conducted with a control group using a pretest/posttest design. This study was carried out in two preschools in Turkey, involving 87 children in the 5–6 age group. MBS-TP was applied to children in the intervention group through eight sessions over 3 weeks. Results indicate that the body's private areas were guessed at lower rates in the intervention group in the pretest (vagina/vulva 13.6%, penis 2.3%) than the posttest (vagina/vulva 77.3%, penis 68.2%). In the control group, in both the pretest (vagina/vulva 7.7%, penis 0%) and posttest (vagina/vulva 11.5%, penis 0%) knowledge was at similarly low rates. There was a statistically significant increase in the knowledge of "saying, doing, telling, reporting" skills of protecting their bodies for children in the intervention group in the posttest. Background: Occupational diseases can be prevented by implementing the appropriate occupational health and safety measures against occupational hazards in the workplace. Unfamiliarity with and mismanagement of occupational diseases by physicians is often linked to inadequate medical training. This study aims to investigate medical students' awareness of, knowledge and attitudes towards oc- cupational health, exposure to occupational hazards, and preventive measures. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with medical students between March and June 2021. Due to the introduction of online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, the questionnaire was sent to the students in the electronic medium. The data analysis was performed with SPSS (version 21). Pearson chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used for the comparison of the categorical variables for two independent groups. Results: Of the 547 medical students who participated in the study, 56.7% (n= 310) were female, and 43.3% (n=257) were male. The median age was 22 (18-30) years. Of the students, 29.4% (n=161) were attending the preclinical classes, 27.8% (n=152) were 6th-year, 21.9% (n=120) were 4th-year, and 20.8% (n=114) were 5th-year. Of the participants, 12.2% (n=67) scored their level of knowledge about the perceived occupational diseases 1 out of 5, 40% (n=219) scored 2 out of 5, 38.6% (n=211) scored 3 out of 5, 9.1% (n=50) scored 4 out of 5. It was found that the level of knowledge increased with the class level. Conclusions: This study showed that the medical students' knowledge about occupational diseases is at a moderate level, and it is essential to offer a dedicated course on occupational diseases during medical training in order to increase their knowledge about these diseases. There are several studies showing contradictory results on concurrent emotional and behavioural problems of children and adolescents who stutter (CAWS). This study aimed to identify whether there is a difference between Turkish-speaking CAWS and their typically developing peers (TDP) in emotional and behavioural problems. The study group consisted of 45 CAWS, aged between 3.40 and 15.92 years, and the control group consisted of 45 TDP, aged between 3.15 and 16.80 years. Participants were divided into three age groups: early childhood (0–6 years), middle childhood (7–11 years) and adolescence (12–18 years). CAWS and TDP were compared separately in each age group with Mann–Whitney U tests. Assessments of emotional and behavioural problems were conducted with the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL) for Ages 1.5–5 and the CBCL for Ages 6–18. In early childhood, CAWS had significantly higher emotional reactivity, anxiety/depression, somatic complaints, withdrawal, sleep problems, attention problems and aggressive behaviour scores than TDP. In middle childhood and adolescence, CAWS had significantly higher anxiety/depression, withdrawal/depression, social problems, attention problems, rule-breaking behaviour and aggressive behaviour scores compared to TDP. In adolescence, somatic problems and thought problems scores were also significantly higher in AWS than TDP. We concluded that emotional and behavioural problems associated with stuttering are noticeable from early childhood to adolescence. Objective: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an important therapy for hematological diseases. One of the most significant complications of HSCT is graft versus host disease (GVHD), and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is well known to affect GVHD and graft rejection. This study aimed to examine the effect of human leukocyte antigens (HLA) on the incidence of GVHD development in patients with leukemia. Methods: The association between HLA and GVHD formation was evaluated in 57 patients with HSCT with HLA-identical sibling donors, of whom 37 were boys and 20 were girls with a mean age of 10.11 years. All patients were diagnosed with leukemia; acute myeloid leukemia (n=33), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (n=15), and chronic myeloid leukemia (n=9). Transplantation pairs were worked for HLA-A, -B, -C, and -DRB1 alleles. Class I HLA antigens were investigated using Terasaki microlymphocytotoxicity, whereas class II HLA alleles with polymerase chain reaction - sequence-specific amplification method. Results: The frequency of developing GVHD in patients with HSCT was found to be 17.5% (n=10). HLA-DRB1*04 allelic frequency [p=0.024, odds ratio (OR): 4.87] was found to be higher in patients who developed GVHD. However, the HLA-DRB1*11 allelic frequency (p=0.031, OR: 0.12) was lower in patients who developed GVHD compared to patients who did not develop GVHD. Furthermore, HLA-B38 (p=0.002) and HLA-B41 (p=0.002) antigens were found only in patients who developed GVHD. The frequencies of the HLA-A26 allele (p=0.12) and the HLADRB1* 11 allele (p=0.037, OR: 4.0) were higher in patients with relapse after HSCT; however, the frequencies of the HLA-A2 allele (p=0.033, OR: 0.19) was lower in patients who relapsed after HSCT. Background: Nurses are exposed to declining work ability and quality of life because of biological and environmental factors. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of a self‐management programme based on an attitude–social influence–self‐efficacy model on work ability and quality of life for nurses aged 45 years and over. Methods: A parallel group trial design was used. Nurses who fitted the eligibility criteria of being aged 45 years and over were randomly assigned to an intervention or a control group. Data were collected between October 2017 and June 2018 at the hospital. The participants were blinded to group allocation. The primary outcome in the study was the impact of age on work ability. Results: Each group consisted of 30 nurses. There were no dropouts, so all subjects were analysed. Compared with the baseline, the intervention group's work ability was higher. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the amount of changes in Work Ability Index scores at the third month compared the baseline. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between postpartum depression (PPD) and women's perceived spousal support during the early postpartum period and the prevalence of PPD and affecting factors. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) and the Perceived Spousal Support among Women in Early Postpartum Period Scale (PSSAWEPP). The study was completed with 181 women. The prevalence of PPD was found as 28.2%. A significant negative correlation was found between the total EPDS score and total PSSAWEPP score and subscale scores of emotional support, social support and physical support (p < 0.01). It was also found that as spousal support perceived by women increased, PPD risk decreased. In our study, it was observed that spousal violence (aOR = 5.69, 95% CI: 1.65-19.55) and having an unintended pregnancy (aOR = 0.24, CI: 0.11-0.54) were two factors that significantly affected PPD. Objective: Nephron-sparing surgery (NSS) is the first-line treatment for T1N0M0 renal tumors (RT). The aim of this multicentric retrospective study is to investigate the national trends and the effect of non-tumoral factors in the preference of NSS as treatment of T1 RT in Turkey. Materials and Methods: Relevant data for patients operated between 1997 and 2017 was collected from the Urologic Cancer Database-Kidney Urooncology Association, Turkey (UroCaD-K). Results: We included 3195 T1N0M0 RT patients in this study. There was a significant increase in the number of NSS performed with time, 9.26% between 1997-2002 to 54.78% between 2013-2017 (p<0.001). NSS proportion decreased with increasing age (p<0.001); but increased with better hospital facility (p<0.001). From multivariate analysis; younger age, later operation date, larger hospital size with higher nephrectomy centers like university hospitals were independently associated non-tumoral factors favoring NSS over radical nephrectomy (RN). Conclusion: We observed significant disparity in the use of NSS for T1 RT among the elderly (>61 years), small hospital size (≤500 beds), lower nephrectomy volume (<100 nephrectomies/year), and Non-University Hospitals. This disparity can be resolved by persistent education of the residents and urologists with periodic courses and practical training, increasing the funds and strengthening the technical equipment of centers, thereby favoring the performance of NSS even in smaller centers. Objectives: This study aimed to develop a protective and improving protocol for foot health of the older people and to assess the effect of this protocol on foot problems, foot care knowledge levels and foot care behavior. Methods: This randomized controlled trial that was conducted in a nursing home in Turkey. The research was completed with 57 older people (28 intervention group, 29 control group) over the age of 60 living in a nursing home who met the eligibility criteria. Data were collected using the Older Person Identification Form, Foot Examination Form, Foot Care Knowledge Level Form, and Foot Care Behavior Scale at baseline and 6 months later. When assessing the study data; Descriptive statistics, Student t-test, Mann Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed ranks test, chi-square test, continuity (Yates) correction, Fisher exact chi-square test, McNemar test and GEE were used. Results: At the end of the research, there were statistically significant improvements in problems related to dermatology (appearance, hygiene, and moisture); problems related to circulation (temperature); problems related to sensory issues (feeling and pain); problems related to footwear; and problems related to self-care between the intervention and control groups. Also, there were statistically significant improvements in problems related to dermatology (appearance and hygiene); problems related to circulation (temperature, color, and edema); and problems related to sensory issues (feeling and pain) for the posttest compared to the pretest in the intervention group (p < 0.05). In terms of foot care knowledge level and foot care behavior scale mean scores, statistically significant differences were found between the groups and for the intervention group pretest and posttest mean scores. Conclusion: The foot care protocol applied to older people was identified to reduce foot problems by a significant level, and increase mean points for knowledge levels about foot care and the foot care behavior scale. This study was conducted for the aim of assessing the effect of nursing care applied to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on their sexual experiences and quality of life. The sample of the study was determined via power analysis, patients were assigned groups using a simple random sampling method. The data were collected between December 2019–June 2020. The researcher applied the nursing care to patients in the experimental group in their home three times. There was a statistically significant difference between posttest mean scores of the Short Form-36 Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire subscales and Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale of the patients in the experimental and control groups (p < 0.05). In this study, it was determined that there was an increase in the Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire mean score of patients with COPD after the nursing care; whereas, there was a slight decrease in the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale mean score. This descriptive study aimed to determine the perspectives of nursing students regarding sexual development of children with intellectual disability. This study was conducted with 455 nursing students at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey over the period September–November 2020. Data were collected from the students by e-mail. The instruments used to collect the data were a "Personal Charateristics Form" and the "Perspectives on Sexual Development of Children with Intellectual Disability Questionnaire," which were prepared by the researchers. In this study, 55.4% of the students had previously received training on sexual development and health, and the source of education for 41.5% consisted of the courses taken in their undergraduate program. Of the students, 23.1% did not wish to communicate with children with intellectual disability or their parents about sexual development, 76.9% felt inadequate in their communication with children and parents about sexual development, 46.2% felt they could identify deviations in sexual development in children with intellectual disability, and 81.5% believed that children with intellectual disability were more vulnerable to sexual abuse. The viewpoints of 4th-year students about sexual development of children with intellectual disability were more positive. Background: It is important to develop self‐management behaviours in adolescents to prevent chronic kidney disease progression. Objectives: This study evaluates the effect of a self‐management program that was developed based on individual and family self‐management theory to aid adolescents with chronic kidney disease in the acquisition of competencies in the management of their disease. Design: This is a randomized controlled study. Participants: The study was conducted with 20 intervention and 20 control patients, who were treated at two hospitals in Ankara between December 2018 and May 2019. Measurements: Self‐Management Assessment Form, Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory‐Adolescent Form and clinical parameters. A training program, specific to chronic kidney disease, was administered over three sessions in a group training setting when the patients came to the clinic for follow‐up. After the training program was completed, the patients were monitored for three months through home visits once every two weeks, totalling six visits. Results: Following the application of self‐management training, a statistically significant difference was found self‐management knowledge and behaviours, quality of life and anxiety mean scores of intervention and control group (p <.05), a significant decrease in only blood urea nitrogen among the clinical parameters when compared to the control group. Conclusions: In this study, a self‐management training program was developed based on Individual and Family Self‐Management Theory, aiming to have a positive effect on the self‐management behaviours of adolescents in the cognitive and psychosocial domains. Background: Peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion is the most frequently used method for intravenous (IV) treatment in pediatric patients. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the Intravenous Infiltration Management Program on the success of PIVC insertion and infiltration in infants. Methods: The study was carried out using a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups and included 750 PIVC procedures for 218 infants between 28 days and 12 months of age. Results: The program decreased the number of PIVC insertions per patient, although it was not statistically significant (P = .076) and had an impact on the success of the PIVC attempt (P < .001), first PIVC attempt (P < .001), PIVC dwell time, and early detection of infiltration (P < .001). In the current study, a questionnaire to evaluate satisfaction levels and related factors upon discharge was completed by 100 patients receiving care for mentai illness in a tertiary care hospital in Turkey. The relationships among sociode mographic variables, nonpharmacological interventions, and participants'views the about treatment course and quality of care they received were investigated. Overall satisfaction levels of participants were good. Older participants reported more positiveopinions. Involuntary hospitalization, useof restraints/seclusion, or electroconvulsive therapy did not change overall satisfaction. Participants who were hospitalized for the first time were more afraid of other patients, which may imply that this population needs special care from the treatment team. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of motivational interviewing (MI) on adherence to treatment and quality of life in chronic hemodialysis patients. This study was conducted with a randomized controlled pretest, posttest, and follow-up design from March to July 2016 in the hemodialysis center. After the intervention (n = 30) and control groups (n = 30) completed a pretest, patients in the intervention group received four individual face-to face MI sessions per month. Then both groups participated in a posttest, 3 months after which a follow-up was conducted. A significant increase in adherence to treatment (according to both subjective and objective data) was observed in the experimental group compared to the control group. No significant difference was found between the two groups in their quality of life scores; however, within the experimental group, there was a significant increase in these scores between the posttest and the 3-month follow-up. The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between dialysis adequacy and the incidence of symptoms in subjects treated with HD. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted at two HD centers. The data were collected with the 'Descriptive Characteristics Form of the Participants' and the 'Dialysis Symptom Index (DSI)'. The study was reported according to the STROBE Declaration. The study was completed with 120 patients. The most common symptom reported was feeling tired or decreased energy and the least common was difficulty concentrating. No statistically significant relationship was found between DSI results and the Kt/V or urea reduction rate levels used to evaluate dialysis adequacy. Dialysis-related symptoms can also be seen in patients with adequate dialysis levels. It is therefore necessary to query the symptoms experienced by the patients at regular intervals. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ShotBlocker on the intramuscular injection pain and satisfaction in emergency adult patients. This research was designed as a randomized controlled, double-blind, experimental study. The study was conducted with 74 patients who applied to the adult emergency department. Patients were randomized to ShotBlocker and control groups. Patient Assessment Form, Visual Analog Scale, and Visual Analog Patient Satisfaction Scale were used. The mean scores of postinjection pain and satisfaction level were analyzed between the groups; it was determined that while postinjection pain mean score of the experimental group was statistically significantly lower than that of the control group (p = 0.0001), satisfaction scores were statistically significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (p = 0.004). When the correlation between the intragroup Pain Scores (VAS) and the Satisfaction Scores (VAS) of the groups after injection was examined, a statistically significant and inverse correlation was found (p < 0.05). Objectives: We compared the quality of life (QoL) in children with precocious puberty (PP) and healthy children aged 8-12 years. Methods: This descriptive and comparative study was conducted with 105 children with a diagnosis of PP and another 105 healthy children. We collected data using a Descriptive Information Form and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). Results: The mean overall PedsQL score (OS) was 78.71 ± 10.84 for children with PP and 82.43 ± 9.81 for healthy children (p < .05). The mean PedsQL Proxy-Report OS was 74.51 ± 13.27 for children with PP and 81.90 ± 9.86 for healthy children (p < .001). Conclusions: We found QoL of children with PP was lower than that of healthy children. In this context, pediatric nurses may have a role in early identification of children with PP and provide psychosocial support using a multidisciplinary approach to counseling. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of web‐based nursing process teaching on senior nursing students' care plan preparation skills. METHODS: Pretest‐posttest intervention design was used. A total of 131 senior nursing students were evaluated for 5 weeks. Data were collected using a datasheet, a nursing care plan (pretest‐posttest), and a self‐efficacy form. FINDINGS: The intervention group had significantly higher data collection, planning stage scores, and a total care plan score than the others. The intervention group was competent in all self‐efficacy items, except the one concerning prioritizing nursing diagnoses. CONCLUSIONS: Web‐based nursing process teaching offered with the curriculum helps students to develop care planning skills. Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is common in intensive care units. One of the important practices for preventing VAP is the 30°--45° elevation head of bed (HOB) angle. Aim: Determining whether or not intensive care nurses can determine the HOB required to prevent VAP formed the primary study objective. Methods: The study was conducted with 36 intensive care nurses in an Education and Research Hospital. The data collection form developed by the researchers was used to collect demographic information in addition to the accuracy of the nurses' knowledge, practices, and estimations concerning the HOB angle required for VAP prevention. The HOB elevation estimates and accuracy of the nurses were measured by the researcher using an inclinometer. Results: When asked about the recommended HOB angle to prevent VAP, 55.6% of the nurses responded with 45°, 22.2% responded with 30°--45°, and 11.1% responded with 30°. While 91.7% of the nurses used the estimation method when setting the HOB angle, only 48.5% stated that they were confident of their estimate and often set the intended HOB angle incorrectly. There were no significant relationships between the nurses' length of nursing experience or intensive care experience and nurses' accuracy when estimating the HOB angle. Conclusions: The number of nurses who used the estimation method to determine the HOB angle was high, but the angle estimates were often incorrect. The importance of using an external angle indicator when setting the recommended HOB angle to avoid VAP should be emphasized in training programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study aimed to determine the vaccination rates and the levels of awareness on pneumococcal, influenza, tetanus and hepatitis B vaccination among patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Material and Methods: The study was performed on patients with DM who presented to the outpatient Clinic of Internal Disease at Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital. Patients were asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding their vaccination status, attitude, and awareness about vaccines. Results: A total of 293 patients [121 (41.3%) males and 172 (58.7%) females] with a mean age of 65 years were included in the study. The mean duration of diabetes was 15 years. Overall, 47.8% of patients reported awareness about the need for vaccination while the rate of being unvaccinated was 52.2%. Reasons for the lack of vaccination were as follows: 67.3% of patients were unaware of the reason for not receiving vaccines; 17.5% patients did not want to be vaccinated; 13.3% patients reported that their physicians did not recommend vaccination; 1.5% reported unavailability of vaccines, and 0.4% reported negligence. Among vaccinated cases, 34.1% were vaccinated against flu; 20.8% against tetanus; 9.9% against pneumonia; 7.8% against hepatitis; and 5.1% received vaccination for other diseases. Conclusion: The levels of vaccine awareness and vaccination rates are low among diabetic patients. It is essential to raise vaccination awareness among this patient population. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of carbapenemase and CTX-M genes among 330 blood culture isolates of Enterobacterales with reduced susceptibility to at least 1 carbapenem, between 2010 and 2015. Methods BD Max CRE assay and in-house PCR were used to detect carbapenemase and CTX-M genes. Results At least 1 carbapenemase gene was detected among 113 (74.3%) of the 152 carbapenem resistant isolates. The OXA-48 (69.7%) was the most common carbapenemase followed by VIM, NDM and IMP, whereas no tested isolates were KPC-positive. Eighty-six isolates (56.6%) had CTX-M and 65 had both OXA-48 and CTX-M. Carbapenemase production in Enterobacterales was significantly increased in years (P <.05). Conclusion Our study indicates that there is ongoing endemic circulation of the OXA-48 producing organism in our facility.
