The article focuses on advocating for accessible e-resources in libraries and addressing the misconception that disability is a one-size-fits-all concept. Topics discussed include the need for a more comprehensive approach to accessibility, the importance of recognizing that not all disabilities are visible, and individuals should have the choice of whether or not to disclose their disability.

Librarians and faculty members are now working together through Open Access (OA) publishing to make faculty-produced scholarly content available to researchers worldwide. The University of South Florida Tampa Library has been working with the Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) Digital Commons platform to create a substantial institutional repository (IR) that includes OA journals, conference proceedings, and data sets, among other materials. Library staff members are currently involved in a variety of activities, including negotiating memoranda of understanding, loading backfiles, registering Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) with CrossRef, designing layout, doing final publication steps, and assisting with technical issues. In 2011, the IR, Scholar Commons @ USF, went live, allowing the library to pull fragmented collections previously hosted on other platforms into a single system with improved discoverability. Purpose – This paper aims to elucidate the value of opening up digital collections for end-user development of mash-ups and to evaluate the suitability of libraries' infrastructure for this purpose. Design/methodology/approach – The author surveyed ARL members' digital collection platforms to assess the terms of use statements and options for programmatic access. Findings – The findings show that 17 per cent of the institutions surveyed offer some means for mashing up digital collections, and that, while more than half the collections surveyed have some form of terms of use or rights statements, they were not written to support this type of use case. Research limitations/implications – Results of the research suggest that a mashable digital collection service is feasible for most libraries. The article offers the author's insights regarding the challenges and triumphs faced by the State and University Library in Denmark in creating digital archive of broadcasted radio and television (TV) programs which were available online. She says that the library is not allowed to access previews and sound clips without signing a contract with Mediestream. Moreover, the library is planning to make all its digital collections available through online portal.

This paper discusses changes in the ownership models of intellectual property and how they are shifting the way libraries provide information. The author argues that the main change in intellectual property is the way that owners distribute information, not in the sense of new media, but in the sense of new legal constructs governing distribution. The article discusses the impact on libraries of a move toward viewing information as a service that must be licensed, not bought. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a new service providing Danish citizens access to articles from printed journals delivered in a digital form. Design/methodology/approach – The paper describes the interlibrary loan infrastructure between Danish libraries and the legal agreement between the copyright holders and the State and University Library. Findings – The service already covers 82 per cent of the Danish population. Originality/value – The digital article service is a rather unique service, especially regarding the delivery of articles from popular printed magazines in digital form to the patrons. Today, libraries within all institutions of higher education are viewing serials collection development in a new light. This paper looks at the issues revolving around these new dynamics, including distance education, electronic serials and how librarians should proceed in the near future. Much change is expected in US Copyright law. At the time of writing the US Register of Copyright issued a substantial report on how copyright will be viewed in our new digital era.
