This bibliometric study explores the growth of literature on the holy scripture of 'The Bhagavad Gita'. One of the ancient and life-strengthening texts of the world is originated in India. To conduct this study, two approaches were adopted to reach the neck of the study. For the literature review, all the normal and well-established databases such as google scholar, web of science, and particular websites of journals were visited and explored one by one. Some steps of the PRISMA algorithm were utilized for the selection of the literature. Secondly, for the data collection, only Web of Science data with the Keyword 'The Bhagavad Gita' with the limit of only 'Title' applied. From 2011 to 2022, a total of 64 publications has been published which is 61.54% of the total 104 publications published in the past 36 years. The majority of publications i.e. 21(19.23%) were published in the category of anthropology. Ashton, Geoffrey, Philosophy Department (University of San Fransisco) & Christian, Graham (Andover Harvard Theol Lib, (Cambridge) each contributed 03 publications on the topic. A maximum of 53(50.96%) publications were contributed by only USA and 165 citations for 53 publications. Many publishers approx. i.e. 50 different countries are listed on the Web of Science which published a total of 104 single or more single publications on the topic of 'The Bhagavad Gita'. This study will be more fruitful for the scientists, librarians, researchers, and authors to find out more authentic literature, evaluate the publications, and collection development. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of exchange rates of foreign currencies on the material budget in the libraries in India. Design/methodology/approach - A sample of journals costing in foreign currency was selected for the purpose of study. A comparison of inflation rate pertaining to serial price is done with the general rate of inflation in India. Findings - The paper finds that exchange rates of foreign currencies have extensive impact on the acquisitions budget of the libraries in India. Practical implications - Academic institutions may protect the buying powers of the libraries while allocating funds, keeping in mind the strengthening or weakening of Indian Rupee in comparison to foreign currencies. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to determine the materials cited in doctoral theses of botany, submitted to the Kuvempu University during the years 2000-2006, with the aim of improving the existing collection development of the library. Design/methodology/approach – The study employed descriptive research design. Theses submitted for the award of Doctoral degree from 2000 to 2006 to the Department of Botany, Kuvempu University were examined. The population of the study was all the theses submitted during the periods under study. Data were extracted from title page and references given at the end of each chapter. Extracted data were analysed using statistics. Findings – The study reveals that journals are the most preferred sources of information used by the researchers in the field of botany, accounting for 74.77 per cent of total citations, although citations from books, proceedings, theses, reports and patents are also found. It is also observed those researchers are not taking much advantage of internet resources. The journal Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture (USA) was ranked the first, with 158 citations, accounting for 7.57 per cent of the total journal citations. Further, Bradford's law of scattering was applied. It is observed that major citations come from journal literature. In addition, more cited materials were contributed by multi authors and degree of collaboration is 0.75. Research limitations/implications – The paper presents a sense of the importance of botany research, and as such informs that community, as well as researchers involved in citation analysis. Originality/value – The outcome of the study is an original research work with citation analysis of doctoral theses in botany. It highlights the information materials available and used by researchers of the Botany Department for their research work and those which need to be added for a healthy collection. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to study the extent to which outsourcing of human resources (HR) is used and the attitude of the library staff towards outsourcing in science and technology libraries in Delhi and Chandigarh, India. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is the result of a survey conducted in 25 science and technology libraries of Delhi and Chandigarh, India. Questionnaire and interview tools of survey were used to collect the primary data. Findings – Most of the Indian libraries have been using selective outsourcing for many years, which has had favourable impact on the activities and services of these libraries. Outsourcing seems a viable solution, as a majority of the libraries lack the required permanent HR. Normally, outsourcing is considered to be an anti-staff and an anti-professional activity. However, the study found the library professional staff supportive of outsourcing because it reduced their workload and improved their skills and professional competencies. Originality/value – This paper explores the hidden practices of Indian libraries to fill the gaps present in required and available HR. Indiana University's India Studies program is young, as is the Indiana University Libraries (IU Libraries) focus on India in the context of area studies programs. The process of crafting access to sources and developing library collections during a four-year period is the subject of the paper. The metaphor of making a patchwork quilt embellished with reflective mirrors representing virtual links is employed to emphasize the cooperative nature of acquisitions and collections in 2001, the year the IU Libraries migrated to a web-based catalog. Emphasis is placed on techniques for stretching resources. Uniform Resource Locaters (URLs) are included in footnotes to facilitate access to websites. Purpose: Monastery libraries have, for centuries, been the hub of religious education and research. They house collections that are unique and even rare and have been useful to students of religion as well as to members of the public. Some, along with the monasteries to which they are attached, even serve as tourist attractions, being as they are ancient relics with rich culture and history. The Tawang Monastery, in Arunachal Pradesh, India, is one such monastery whose libraries are unique and valuable. This paper reports results of a study on the collection in the two libraries of Tawang Monastery which not only found that they are among the best in terms of format, variety and value but also discovered shortcomings like shortage in staff and space which need to be addressed at the earliest.Design/methodology/approach For this research, case study method was used by the researchers. The tools used for data collection were questionnaire and interview. This is because they were found to be easier and convenient methods to carry out this research. Apart from that, observation method was also carried out throughout the research period. Besides these field work research methods, literature review was also carried out to gather mostly historical and some background information about the monastic libraries in India. Internet searching was also carried out to find out other relevant information.Findings This study provides an enumerative account of collection development in the Tawang monastery libraries. During the study, certain pitfalls were noted. First, the ancient Parkhang library building is in a very precarious state of existence. In fact, the library building was undergoing renovation during the period of this study. Due to this very reason also, it’s collection of Kanjur and Tanjur religious texts have not been subjected to any preservation methods, although it is of utmost necessity.Research limitations/implications During this particular period of study the ancient Parkhang library was undergoing the process of building renovation. In fact, the whole library building was deserted as a result, and was in topsy-turvy condition. The tour of the library hall was given, for whatever it was worth by the librarian himself, during which some photographs were taken. Hence, most of the data collection was possible only due to the dedicated cooperation of the monks and a few learned teaching staff of the monastery school. Much relevant information was collected through personal interviews, apart from the questionnaire sets. On the other hand, no such hindrance was faced for the data collection from the school library.Originality/value This study, to an extent, shows that the collection development in the Tawang monastery libraries (especially Parkhang library) is a very vital and important asset, both for the state of Arunachal Pradesh and for India as well. It is the first full-fledged study on collection development in the Tawang Monastery libraries, covering all aspects of the topic at hand, and can serve as a precedent to other such studies. Over the last two decades, there has been a sea change in knowledge production and dissemination world over; thereby libraries are growing in a rapid changing environment. Numerous ongoing phenomena, such as - information as a commodity, growth in quantity, increased user demand, diminishing budget, raising cost of publications, complex technological requirements, and changing concept of ownership to access are the serious concern; which cannot be reversed. However, price escalations in journal subscription and confusing array of pricing models have prompted the significant growth in number of library-consortia. This paper discusses on consortium as an organization, and is one of the emerging toolkits for libraries to survive; demonstrates the characteristics of successful consortia; recognizes the constrains specific to northeast region; and suggests the formation of a consortium solely for the North Eastern Regional Libraries (NERL) in India. The study draws an attention to the environmental circumstances (viz. topographical, climatic, economic, political, cultural, etc.] that are unique to north-eastern part of India; which makes the NERL potentially different from the mainland, thus hampers the consistent growth of consortia in the region. The paper examines various supportive measures to initiate the Consortium, and uses a model approach to be known as PLACON (stands for PLANNER Consortia); expected to trigger the balanced development of the NERL, in order to take up the challenges of twenty-first century. It highlights basic principles, major projects, and model structure of the Consortium; which would be a centralized, efficient, highly cost-effective system and emphasizes the constant source of external funds that will provide further subsidies in acquisition of online resources. The proposal puts forth major recommendations where 'information infrastructure' is prerequisite to ensure a sustainable growth of the NERL is also discussed. It also presents the strategies for making decisions and proper executions as well as follow-up-actions to be required for implementation of the Consortium in order to achieve the resultant benefits in a real situation. The purpose of the study is to test the application of the Pareto Principle on the research productivity of journals. Oncology was selected as the subject of study and data were extracted from the "Web of Science." A series of keywords specifying Oncology and sub-fields have been derived from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). A string of 15 search terms (Lead, Related, and Narrow) was connected using the Boolean operator "OR" to retrieve results limiting the scope to journal articles of India and Iran consecutively. The results weren't strictly as per Pareto's Principle of 80/20 rule, but almost close (i.e., 75/25 in the case of India and 65/35 in the case of Iran). The results derived provide strong evidence that the Pareto principle fits the research productivity of journals to a great extend. The study could help libraries to improve the efficiency of collection development and financial management policies. The results will be highly applicable for the acquisition of scholarly journals for libraries, especially for library consortia. The central library of National Law University Delhi has rich collection of law e-books from various publishers. These e-books were available to the faculty and students through different publisher platforms and it was difficult to find them subject-wise. Library is currently using LIBSYS-7 automation software. The paper depicts detailed experiment carried out to weave these e-books into library catalogue through LIBSYS-7. The whole technical process is described step by step and searching e-books through OPAC. The e-books can be searched subject-wise along-with print books and their full text can be downloaded through OPAC. This experiment establishes library catalogue as core source of information of all library resources. Users get benefitted to a great extent in finding their desired e-book through library catalogue. This article discusses a study aimed at evaluating the use of open access publishing by researchers and scholars in science and technology fields in India. Topics include the difficulties faced by researchers in India concerning the visibility and circulation of their published materials, the importance of the open access movement in science and technology fields due to the serial subscriptions crisis facing libraries throughout the world, and the importance of improved information and communication technology (ICT) facilities in supporting the open access publishing movement.

This paper provides a brief overview of the collection of Delhi Public Library. System (DPLS). The focus was to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the book collection in relation to the population of Delhi, the capital city, India. Questionnaire and interview methods were used to collect data about the collection, and collection development process. Additionally, annual reports and other documents were used for the purpose. The major findings of the study highlights that the DPLS has very low membership with respect to the total population of Delhi, DPLS has only 64883 registered members compared to the 16.75 million population of state, Rate of growth of the collection is also low. The article presents information about an analysis done by India's Annamalai University of the 2005-2009 issues of the "Indian Journal of Chemistry." It states that researchers determined the number of contributed articles, the geographic distribution of the articles, and the number of citations per article, then used biometrics to make conclusions about the data. It reports that bibliometric analysis, as applied to the Library and Information Science field, is useful in identifying research trends since librarians can use results to plan their collection development, especially when budgets are tight.

The article discusses the sharing of library resources by academic libraries at technological institutes in North India. The cooperation of libraries in combining their financial resources to offer high-quality electronic information products is discussed, mentioning that libraries have collaborated through consortia and cooperative collection development since the 19th century. Also discussed is the importance of collaboration in the development of library collections due to the improved ability to meet the needs of library users and avoid the unnecessary duplication of library materials.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to find out the budgetary allocation for books and journals (Print and Electronic) and growth of resources during 2003-2004 to 2012-2013. The study also explored the significant/non-significant relationship for budget allocated for books and journals (Print and Electronic) as well as growth of resources across the libraries. This will help the librarians of such universities to build their collection accordingly. Design/methodology/approach: The data were collected with the help of a structured questionnaire. Moreover, information was obtained from the primary library records such as annual reports, budget estimates, ledgers and also the staff involved in the acquisition section. The hypotheses were tested using chi-square test. The relationship between budgetary allocation and growth of resources amongst the five university libraries during 2003-2004 to 2012-2013 were analysed and discussed. Findings: Maharishi Dayanand University library had the highest budget for purchase of books (Rs.125 lakh), whereas Panjab University library had the highest budget (Rs.208 lakh) for purchase of journals (Print and Electronic) during 2012-2013. Panjab University library allocated Rs.18 lakh for purchase of books and Rs.208 lakh for purchase of journals (Print and Electronic) during 2012-2013. Punjabi University library allocated 16 lakh for purchase of books and 45 lakh for purchase of journals (Print and Electronic) during 2012-2013. Guru Nanak Dev University library allocated Rs.16.80 lakh as the budget for purchase of books and Rs.8.30 lakh for purchase of journals (Print and Electronic) from 2007-2008 to 2012-2013. Kurukshetra University library allocated Rs.9 lakh for purchase of books during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, whereas it had allocated Rs.79.20 lakh for purchase of journals (Print and Electronic) during 2008-2009. Maharishi Dayanand University library allocated Rs.125 lakh for purchase of books during 2011-2012 and 2012-2013, whereas it allocated Rs.125 lakh for purchase of journals (Print and Electronic) during 2012-2013. Research limitations/implications: The study was limited to five universities of Northern India, which comprised Panjab University, Chandigarh (PU); Punjabi University, Patiala (PbiU); Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (GNDU); Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (KU); and Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak (MDU). The data related to budgetary allocation for resources and growth and cumulative growth of books and journals (print and electronic) during 2003-2004 to 2012-2013 were collected and analysed. Originality/value: This is the first of its kind of study in these universities, which provides an overview of how much budget was allocated for collection development in these university libraries. The authors present assessment strategies, research results, and decision making in the process of building a website and formalizing management procedures for a library in Kerala, India serving a significant number of deaf students. The strategies include user interviews and developing user experience personas, collecting and incorporating examples from other library sites in building a new website, and communicating new methods of managing and promoting library resources to the university community. The co-presenters encountered difficulties and some resistance regarding their suggestions for changes in the website as well as the public and technical services offered by the library due to differences in infrastructure and expectations in academic culture.
