A series of heterobimetallic PdII/MII complexes (MII = Mn, Co) were synthesised and tested as precatalysts for sequential Sonogashira coupling–alkyne semi-hydrogenation reactions to form Z-aryl alkenes. The carbometalated heterobimetallic PdII/CoII complex CoPdL3’ demonstrated an apparent cooperative effect compared to the corresponding monometallic counterparts. This compound was identified as a potent single-molecule catalyst for the one-pot Cu-free Sonogashira coupling of aryl bromides with terminal alkynes followed by chemo- and stereoselective semi-hydrogenation of the alkyne intermediate using NH3·BH3 as a hydrogen source. Furthermore, different aromatic substrates have been tested to show the generality of the reaction for the synthesis of Z-alkenes, including biologically active combretastatin A-4. In addition, the homogeneous nature of the catalytically active species was demonstrated.

Indomethacin is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with a strong selective inhibitor activity towards cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme that is highly overexpressed in various tumour cells, being involved in tumourigenesis. Concomitantly, porphyrins have gained much attention as promising photosensitizers (PSs) for the non-invasive photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer. Herein, we report the design, and determine the singlet oxygen generation capacity and in vitro cellular toxicity of porphyrin- and chlorin-indomethacin conjugates (P2-Ind and C2-Ind). Both the conjugates were obtained in high yields and were characterized by 1H, 19F and 13C NMR as well as by high resolution mass spectrometry. The singlet oxygen generation properties were assessed by the 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran singlet oxygen trap method, which showed that C2 and C2-Ind are the best singlet oxygen photosensitizers. In addition, it was found that the presence of indomethacin did not influence the singlet oxygen generation of porphyrin or chlorin. Cytotoxicity studies of the conjugate in human HEp2 cells revealed that the porphyrin- and chlorin-indomethacin conjugates have similar dark cytotoxicities, while chlorin C2 was shown to be the most phototoxic. Despite having lower cellular uptake than C2-Ind after 24 hours, chlorin C2 had a broad localization in HEp2 cells while the chlorin-indomethacin conjugate C2-Ind could be detected in the form of small aggregates. DFT calculations were performed to shed light on the reaction energy involved in the formation of the indomethacin conjugates and to compare the relative stability of selected isomers in solution. Moreover, the calculated energy of their first excited triplet state structures confirmed their use as suitable photosensitizers to generate singlet oxygen for PDT.

Background and Objectives Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) elicit therapeutic effects against liver fibrosis in animal models. Human liver stem cells (HLSCs) are cells isolated from human liver tissue that have mesenchymal morphology and express MSC markers. HLSCs also possess intrahepatic stem cell properties. We introduce a rat model of liver fibrosis and trans-portal transplantation of HLSC to demonstrate alleviation of liver fibrosis. Methods and Results Liver fibrosis was induced by intraperitoneal injection of Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Sprague Dawley rats underwent simultaneous partial hepatectomy of the left hepatic lobe and HLSC transplantation via the portal vein. Gross appearance of the liver observed following CCl4 injection showed cholestasis and surface nodularity. Sirius red staining revealed deposition of collagen fibers in the extracellular matrix (ECM). Following HLSC transplantation, human albumin secreting cells were detected by immunohistochemistry in liver specimens. Recently, the combined therapy has become one of the main approaches in cancer treatment. Combining different approaches may provide a significant outcome by triggering several death mechanisms or causing increased damage of tumor cells without hurting healthy ones. The supramolecular nanoplatform based on a high-Z metal reported here is a suitable system for the targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic compounds, imaging, and an enhanced radiotherapy outcome. HfO2 nanoparticles coated with oleic acid and a monomethoxypoly(ethylene glycol)-poly(e-caprolactone) copolymer shell (nanoplatform) are able to accumulate inside cancer cells and release doxorubicin (DOX) under specific conditions. Neither uncoated nor coated nanoparticles show any cytotoxicity in vitro. DOX loaded onto a nanoplatform demonstrates a lower IC50 value than pure DOX. X-ray irradiation of cancer cells loaded with a nanoplatform shows a higher death rate than that for cells without nanoparticles. These results provide an important foundation for the development of complex nanoscale systems for combined cancer treatment.

A facile two-step synthesis of bis(1-methylhydrazinyl)pyrimidine from pyridine-2-carbaldehyde and 2-diphenylphosphanylbenzaldehyde gave access to the new asymmetric ligand 1. The phosphane selectively guides PdII into the softer tridentate N,N,P pocket, yielding monometallic complex 2. A second reaction with a 3d transition metal complex precursor (groups 7 to 12) fills the vacant N,N,N pocket and thus provides a variety of heterobimetallic complexes of the type PdII/MII (M = Mn (3), Fe (4), Co (5), Ni (6), Cu (7), Zn (8)). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies were performed for all complexes. The assembly of μ2-chlorido-bridged dimers was observed for complexes 5-7 in the solid state, while DOSY NMR experiments have shown that 5-7 are unbridged monomers in solution. As an exception, FeII prefers to form the homoleptic meridional complex [Fe{PdCl(1)}2](OTf)4 (4). The electrochemical behavior and the effective magnetic moment in solution were investigated for all complexes by cyclic voltammetry and Evans method, respectively. Experimental UV/vis results were interpreted by performing TD-DFT calculations on 1, 2, and 3.

The reduction of the 1‐phospha‐2‐azanorbornene derivate endo‐1 with lithium aluminium hydride leads to an unprecedented 1‐phosphabicyclo[3.2.1]octa‐2,5‐diene, while a phospholide anion is formed with lithium. The latter can be protonated resulting in formation of an unusual 2H‐phosphole dimer. Furthermore, 3H‐phospholes, previously assumed to have no synthetic relevance as intermediates, were proposed to act as dienophile in the dimerisation of 3,4‐dimethyl‐1‐phenylphosphole at elevated temperatures based on theoretical calculations., 1‐Phospha‐2‐azanorbornenes (PAN) are shown to be suitable starting materials for novel bridged 7‐membered phosphorus heterocycles (using lithium aluminium hydride as reducing agent) or lithium phospholide (with elemental lithium as reducing agent). The anticancer effects of Shinan (Shinan-South Korea) sea salts on azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) with high fat diet (HFD)-induced colon cancer and obesity in C57BL/6N mice were studied. We prepared three types of sea salt: generally manufactured sea salt (GS), generally manufactured after filtering seawater (FS), and manufactured with only new seawater (NS). Sea salt intake increased colon length and reduced colon length/weight ratio, tumor number, and progression of colon cancer in colon tissue. The differently prepared sea salts also ameliorated liver injury. In addition, the mineral composition of each salt was different. Moreover, the sea salts enhanced activation of natural killer cell (CD56) expression in colon and spleen tissues. However, the mineral compositions of sea salts were not simply associated with anticancer effects in AOM/DSS+HFD induced mice. Thus, the anticolorectal cancer effects of sea salts may be mediated by different factors, which remain to be identified.

Propyl-paraben exposure is associated with aeroallergen sensitization, but its association with atopic dermatitis (AD) is inconclusive. No studies have been conducted on the metabolomic pathways underlying these associations. We investigated the associations between propyl-paraben exposure and aeroallergen sensitization, AD, and Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) score and identified the underlying pathways using untargeted metabolomics analysis. We enrolled 455 children in a general population study. Skin prick tests were performed with the assessment of EASI score. Urinary propyl-, butyl-, ethyl-, and methyl-paraben levels were measured. Untargeted metabolomics analysis was performed on the first and fifth urine propyl-paraben quintile groups. The highest urine propyl-paraben quintile group was associated with aeroallergen sensitization, but not with AD. Glycine, threonine, serine, ornithine, isoleucine, arabinofuranose, d-lyxofuranose, citrate, and picolinic acid levels were higher, whereas palmitic acid and 2-palmitoylglycerol levels were lower in the highest quintile propyl-paraben group, than in the lowest quintile group. The propyl-paraben-induced metabolic perturbations were associated with serine and glycine metabolisms, branched-chain amino acid metabolism, and ammonia recycling. Propyl-paraben exposure was associated with aeroallergen sensitization and EASI score, partially via metabolomic changes related with oxidative stress, mTOR, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors pathway, aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling pathways, and tricarboxylic acid cycle.

Herein, we report the development of a facile synthetic strategy for constructing diverse peptide structural architectures via chemoselective peptide ligation. The key advancement involved is to utilize the benzofuran moiety as the peptide salicylaldehyde ester surrogate, and Dap–Ser/Lys–Ser dipeptide as the hydroxyl amino functionality, which could be successfully introduced at the side chain of peptides enabling peptide ligation. With this method, the side chain-to-side chain cyclic peptide, branched/bridged peptides, tailed cyclic peptides and multi-cyclic peptides have been designed and successfully synthesized with native peptidic linkages at the ligation sites. This strategy has provided an alternative strategic opportunity for synthetic peptide development. It also serves as an inspiration for the structural design of PPI inhibitors with new modalities.

Oxidative addition of the P-P single bond of an ortho-carborane-derived 1,2-diphosphetane (1,2-C-2(PMes)(2)B10H10) (Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2) to cobalt(-i) and nickel(0) sources affords the first heteroleptic complexes of a carborane-bridged bis(phosphanido) ligand. The complexes also incorporate labile ligands suitable for further functionalisation. Thus, the cobalt(i) complex [K([18]crown-6)][Co{1,2-(PMes)(2)C2B10H10}(cod)] (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) bearing a labile cyclooctadiene ligand undergoes facile ligand exchange reactions with isonitriles and tert-butyl phosphaalkyne with retention of the bis(phosphanido) ligand. However, in the reaction with one equivalent of P-4, the electron-rich bis(phosphanido) moiety abstracts a single phosphorus atom with formation of a new P-3 chain, while the remaining three P atoms derived from P-4 form an eta(3)-coordinating cyclo-P-3 ligand. A straightforward synthesis of the tetradentate phospholane ligand 1 is reported. The 2 : 1 [M : L] reaction of 1 with [AuCl(tht)] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) resulted in the 4 : 2 [M : L] supramolecular coordination complex 2 where two ligands 1 are bridging four gold(I) cations. The formation of 2 can be rationalised via a geometrical analysis of the ligand. The coordination mode of the gold atoms was evaluated based on a CSD search, revealing the geometrical changes for a transition from linear to trigonal planar coordination environment.

The cyclo-(P4tBu3) synthon [Li{cyclo-(P4tBu3)}(thf)(tmeda)] (1) (thf = tetrahydrofuran, tmeda = N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine) is readily accessible in a one-pot synthesis from P4 and LitBu. The use of 1 as a cyclo-(P4tBu3) building block enables the rational synthesis of cyclo-(P4tBu3)-containing oligophosphanes, namely {cyclo-(P4tBu3)}2 (2), {cyclo-(P4tBu3)}2PtBu (3) and {cyclo-(P4tBu3)}2CH2 (4), C3v-symmetric pnictaphosphanes E{cyclo-(P4tBu3)}3 (E = Bi, Sb, As; 5–7) as well as AsCl{cyclo-(P4tBu3)}2 (8). Compounds 5 and 6 represent the first neutral homoleptic bismuthane and stibane that contain only bonds to phosphorus. All new compounds were isolated in moderate to good yields and fully characterised. The 31P{1H} NMR spectral data of 1, 2, 4, and 8 have been determined by automated line-shape analysis.

Background The association between dyslipidemia and atopic dermatitis in children is unclear. This study investigated the association between dyslipidemia and atopic dermatitis in children by analysis of disease onset, risk factors, and disease severity. Methods Subset I examined 7-year-old children in elementary school (n = 248), and Subset II was a retrospective long-term follow-up hospital-based study (n = 52 725) conducted from 1986 to 2016 that used propensity score matching. In the Subset I study, total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) were determined, and the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index was determined. In the Subset II study, the time of atopic dermatitis onset was determined for asymptomatic subjects whose TC levels were below or above 170 mg/dL. Results Our Subset I study indicated that children with atopic dermatitis (n = 69, 27.8%) had significantly higher levels of TC and TG, and that the SCORAD index had significant associations with high levels of TC and TG, and a low level of HDL-C. Our Subset II study (1722 with high TC and 6735 with normal TC after propensity score matching) indicated the high TC group had a greater hazard ratio (HR) for the onset of atopic dermatitis (consensus-based HR: 2.47; 95% CI: 1.23, 5.06, P = .012) during 5 years. Conclusion An abnormal blood lipid profile in children is associated with the presence of atopic dermatitis and the SCORAD index. The risk of atopic dermatitis onset was significantly greater with high levels of TC.

One-helix proteins 1 and 2 (OHP1/2) are members of the family of light-harvesting-like proteins (LIL) in plants, and their potential function(s) have been initially analyzed only recently. OHP1 and OHP2 are structurally related to the transmembrane α-helices 1 and 3 of all members of the light-harvesting complex (LHC) superfamily. Arabidopsis thaliana OHPs form heterodimers which bind 6 chlorophylls (Chls) a and two carotenoids in vitro. Their function remains unclear, and therefore, a spectroscopic study with reconstituted OHP1/OHP2-complexes was performed. Steady-state spectroscopy did not indicate singlet excitation energy transfer between pigments. Thus, a light-harvesting function can be excluded. Possible pigment-storage and/or -delivery functions of OHPs require photoprotection of the bound Chls. Hence, Chl and carotenoid triplet formation and decays in reconstituted OHP1/2 dimers were measured using nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Unlike in all other photosynthetic LHCs, unquenched Chl triplets were observed with unusually long lifetimes. Moreover, there were virtually no differences in both Chl and carotenoid triplet state lifetimes under either aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The results indicate that both Chls and carotenoids are shielded by the proteins from interactions with ambient oxygen and, thus, protected against formation of singlet oxygen. Only a minor portion of the Chl triplets was quenched by carotenoids. These results are in stark contrast to all previously observed photoprotective processes in LHC/LIL proteins and, thus, may constitute a novel mechanism of photoprotection in the plant photosynthetic apparatus.

A dynamic covalent chemistry approach was used for the stereoselective synthesis of 1,10-diaza-3,8,12,17-tetraphosphacyclooctadecanes via condensation reaction of 1,4-bis(organylphosphino)butane, formaldehyde, and primary amines. The obtained 18-membered P4N2 macrocycles were isolated in pure form as meso- (RPSPSPRP) or rac- (RPRPRPRP/SPSPSPSP) isomers. The structural features of the individual stereoisomers were revealed by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray structure analysis. All P4N2 macrocycles form square-planar nickel(II) complexes with the RPSPSPRP isomer only, in which the orientation of the lone pairs of electrons at phosphorus favors this coordination mode, independent of the initial configuration of the ligand, indicating the ability of the 18-membered P4N2 macrocycles to stereoisomerize in the course of the complexation.

In a 2:2 reaction with silver(I) chloride or bromide, 1,5‐bis(1‐phospholano)pentane (1a) afforded frame‐like macrocyclic structures, with intra‐ (2, Cl) or intermolecular (3, Br) halido bridges. In contrast, 1,7‐bis(1‐phospholano)heptane (1b) formed coordination polymers 4a (Cl) and 4b (Br) with bridging bis‐phospholane and halido ligands. A unique paddle wheel‐type metallacryptand structure 5 was obtained from 1a and silver(I) bromide in a 2:3 reaction (M:L). Reaction of the electrochemically in situ from elemental white phosphorus generated phosphine oxide H3 PO in a single electrochemical cell, supplied with lead cathode and aluminium anode, with cyclic ketones (cyclopentanone and cyclohexanone) results in formation of secondary phosphine oxides (bis(α-hydroxycyclopentyl)phosphine oxide 2 a, isolated yield 15 %, and bis(α-hydroxycyclohexyl)phosphine oxide 2 b, isolated yield 12 %) with two α-hydroxycycloalkyl substituents at the phosphorus atom. Bis(α-hydroxycyclopentyl)phosphine oxide reacts with [PdCl2 (COD)] (COD=1,5-cyclooctadiene) to give a new palladium complex trans-[PdCl2 {P(OH)(cyclo-C5 H8 -1-OH)2 }2 ] (3 a, isolated yield 11 %) bearing phosphinous acid as a ligand formed via tautomerization of the phosphine oxide. Finally, the cytotoxicity of the synthesized secondary phosphine oxides on tumor and healthy human cell lines was studied. It was found that at a concentration of 10-6 -10-4 M, phosphine oxides 2 a,b exhibit similar IC50 values for the M-Hela cell line (ca. 50 mM), but are non-toxic for MCF-7 cells. For human alveolar adenocarcinoma cells (A-549), only 2 a is active (ca. 35 mM), while 2 b is not toxic.

Tertiary phosphines are generally known to withstand inversion under moderate conditions. In this work, a remarkable racemization process of three P‐chiral ferrocenyl phosphines is reported. Subjected to conventional column chromatography as highly enantioenriched compounds, they greatly experienced racemization when collected at the column outlet within minutes. Initially, attention was drawn to this unusual inversion behavior after observing that the superb enantiomeric excess of these ligands (>95 % ee in all cases) was almost lost in their corresponding ruthenium(II) complexes. Successively excluding possible racemization causes, these P‐chiral ferrocenyl phosphines were found to undergo a significant, acid‐catalyzed racemization process at room temperature within a few minutes. This process is mainly observed during standard column chromatography by using conventional silica or alumina, but can also be triggered deliberately by addition of certain acids. Therefore, the stereochemical preservation of P‐chiral phosphines during their purification may per se not always be guaranteed, since column chromatography is the most frequently used technique for purifying such types of compounds., Enantiomeric excess vanished! Subjected to conventional column chromatography as highly enantioenriched compounds, P‐chiral ferrocenyl phosphines suffered dramatically from racemization when collected at the column outlet even within minutes. What has happened? The authors have thoroughly investigated this most frequently used technique for the purification of such compounds and found a remarkable process as the explanation.

Members of the light-harvesting complex protein family participate in multiple processes connected with light sensing, light absorption, and pigment binding within the thylakoid membrane. Amino acid residues of the light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding proteins involved in pigment binding have been precisely identified through x-ray crystallography experiments. In vitro pigment-binding studies have been performed with LIGHT-HARVESTING-LIKE3 proteins, and the pigment-binding ability of cyanobacterial high-light-inducible proteins has been studied in detail. However, analysis of pigment binding by plant high-light-inducible protein homologs, called ONE-HELIX PROTEINS (OHPs), is lacking. Here, we report on successful in vitro reconstitution of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) OHPs with chlorophylls and carotenoids and show that pigment binding depends on the formation of OHP1/OHP2 heterodimers. Pigment-binding capacity was completely lost in each of the OHPs when residues of the light-harvesting complex chlorophyll-binding motif required for chlorophyll binding were mutated. Moreover, the mutated OHP variants failed to rescue the respective knockout (T-DNA insertion) mutants, indicating that pigment-binding ability is essential for OHP function in vivo. The scaffold protein HIGH CHLOROPHYLL FLUORESCENCE244 (HCF244) is tethered to the thylakoid membrane by the OHP heterodimer. We show that HCF244 stability depends on OHP heterodimer formation and introduce the concept of a functional unit consisting of OHP1, OHP2, and HCF244, in which each protein requires the others. Because of their pigment-binding capacity, we suggest that OHPs function in the delivery of pigments to the D1 subunit of PSII.

The modular syntheses of C3-symmetric tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes and their homotrinuclear gold(i) complexes are reported. Choosing the arene core allows fine-tuning of the exact oxidation potentials and thus tailoring of the electrochemical response. The tris[chloridogold(i)] complexes were investigated in the catalytic ring-closing isomerisation of N-(2-propyn-1-yl)benzamide, showing cooperative behaviour vs. a mononuclear chloridogold(i) complex. Adding one, two, or three equivalents of 1,1′-diacetylferrocenium[tetrakis(perfluoro-tert-butoxy)aluminate] as an oxidant during the catalytic reaction (in situ) resulted in a distinct, stepwise influence on the resulting catalytic rates. Isolation of the oxidised species is possible, and using them as (pre-)catalysts (ex situ oxidation) confirmed the activity trend. Proving the intactness of the P–Au–Cl motif during oxidation, the tri-oxidised benzene-based complex has been structurally characterised., Trinuclear gold(i) complexes of C3-symmetric tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes with four accessible oxidation states catalyse the ring-closing isomerisation of N-(2-propyn-1-yl)benzamide with different rates depending on their redox state.

Introduction of a bis(isopropylidene)-protected galactopyranosyl moiety in s-triazine-based boron-rich carboxylic acids and amines results in soluble and suitable coupling partners for tumour-selective biomolecules with applications as selective agents for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). Bearing either a carboxylic acid or primary amine as a functional group, these compounds are highly versatile and thus largely extend the possible coupling strategies with suitable biomolecules. Modification of the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) selective agonist [D-Phe6, β-Ala11, Ala13, Nle14]Bn(6–14) with the carboxylic acid derivative yielded a bioconjugate with an optimal receptor activation and internalisation profile. This demonstrates the great potential of this approach for the development of novel boron delivery agents.

A family of helical dinuclear copper(I) pyridylphospholane complexes [Cu2L3X]X (X = BF4−, Cl− and Br−) was prepared. The family includes the first examples of this type of complex based on copper(I) chloride and copper(I) bromide. The two isomers typical of this class of compounds, namely head-to-head and head-to-tail complexes, were studied in solution by spectroscopic and optical methods, and in the solid state by X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, the solid-state luminescence of the complexes at different temperatures was studied, and the results were interpreted using quantum-chemical calculations. It was shown that the luminescence of the complexes is attributed to the 3(M + X)LCT transitions.

12-Lipoxygenase is crucial for tumour angiogenesis. 5,6,7-Trihydroxy-2-phenyl-4 H -1-benzopyran-4-one (baicalein) is a suitable inhibitor for this enzyme but is rapidly metabolised in vivo . Thus, an improvement of the metabolic stability is necessary to enhance the therapeutic efficiency. An emerging approach to enhance metabolic stability of carbon-based pharmaceuticals is the use of metabolically stable, non-toxic boron clusters, such as dicarba- closo -dodecaborane(12)s (carboranes) as phenyl mimetics. Therefore, the unsubstituted phenyl ring of baicalein was replaced by meta -carborane, resulting in borcalein, the carborane analogue of baicalein. This substitution resulted in a decreased inhibitory activity towards 12-lipoxygenase, but led to increased toxicity in melanoma (A375, B16, B16F10) and colon cancer cell lines (SW480, HCT116, CT26CL25) with decreased tumour selectivity in comparison to baicalein. Surprisingly, borcalein displays a different mechanism of cytotoxicity with increased intracellular production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS) and nitric oxide (NO).

Stereoselective synthesis of the first representatives of 1,12-diaza-3,10,14,21-tetraphosphacyclodocosanes was achieved via the Mannich-type condensation of 1,6-bis(phenylphosphino)hexane, formaldehyde and primary amines. Due to covalent self-assembly, individual RPSPSPRP isomer was isolated from a dynamic system containing all possible stereoisomers and a number of by-products.

Investigations on the antitumor activity of metallacarboranes are sparse in the literature and limited to a handful of ruthena‐ and molybdacarboranes. In this study, the molybdacarborane fragment [3‐(CO)2‐closo‐3,1,2‐MoC2B9H11] was combined with a vector molecule, inspired by the well‐known drug tamoxifen or 4,4′‐dihydroxytamoxifen (TAM‐diOH). The molybdacarborane derivative [3,3‐{4‐[1,1‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)but‐1‐en‐2‐yl]‐2,2′‐bipyridine‐κ2 N,N′}‐3‐(CO)2‐closo‐3,1,2‐MoC2B9H11] (10), as well as the ligand itself 4‐[1,1‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)but‐1‐en‐2‐yl]‐2,2′‐bipyridine (6) showed cytotoxic activities in the low micromolar range against breast adenocarcinoma (MDA‐MB‐231, MDA‐MB‐361 and MCF‐7), human glioblastoma (LN‐229) and human glioma (U‐251) cell lines. In addition, compounds 6 and 10 were found to induce senescence and cytodestructive autophagy, lower ROS/RNS levels, but only the molybdacarborane 10 induced a strong increase of nitric oxide (NO) concentration in the MCF‐7 cells., Privileged structures: Applying this drug design concept on the well‐known anticancer drug tamoxifen leads to its 2,2′‐bipyridine‐modified derivative, which is a vector for molybdacarboranes. The biological activity profile contrasts with those of other organic or inorganic selective estrogen receptor modulators: whereas the ROS/RNS levels are decreased, the NO levels increase. The ability to form nanoparticles with bovine serum albumin opens the way to modern nanomedicine.

Deboronation of a carborane-substituted diphosphetane 2 in toluene yielded the first nido-carboranyldiphosphetane 1. The P-P bond in 1 can be broken via dismutation reactions with diaryl dichalcogenides yielding nido-carboranyl bis-phosphanes that were not accessible via established synthetic protocols. Additionally, transition metal complexes of 1 could be isolated including one coordination polymer. Notably, when the deboronation of 2 is carried out in ethanol, unprecedented nido-carborane-substituted secondary bis-phosphane monoxides (3, 4) are obtained. These compounds are interesting starting materials for further reactivity studies due to their P-H bonds. Experimental findings are supported by DFT calculations including the calculation of reaction mechanisms and NMR spectroscopic parameters.

A hands-on experiment to obtain atomic and ionic radii with lumps of metal and ionic compounds is reported here. The experiment is performed with industrial-grade typical metals (iron, copper, aluminum, and lead) and single-crystal lumps of ionic compounds (sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and potassium bromide). Students measure the dimension of the given lumps with Vernier calipers and weigh them with a precision balance. After measuring the dimension and mass of the given lumps, students can calculate the atomic and ionic radius of each corresponding atom and ion with the obtained density values and information about the lattice structures. The obtained values of the metal atomic radii and the ionic radii of the ionic compounds are very close to the values in the literature. After this activity, the students came to appreciate that atomic radii, as typical submicroscopic and symbolic representations, are actually existing features and not an abstract concept. The experiment reported here is suitable for a first-year undergraduate general chemistry class as well as an introductory class at the high school level.

The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in body shape, physical fitness, and cardiovascular health-related factors after a 1-year combined exercise program in rural old men. Subjects were fourteen old men with more than 65 years of age living in Korean rural areas. The combined exercise program consisted of 90-min dynamic and static exercise sessions at a frequency of 3 days per week. Body shape (body weight [BW], body fat percentage [%BF], muscle mass [MM], body mass index [BMI], waist hip ratio [WHR]) and physical fitness levels (grip strength, standing up-right, one leg standing, sit and reach, and 2-min walking) were measured before, 6 months and 1 year after the program started. Cardiovascular health-related factors, including blood glucose, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), and triglyceride (TG) were measured. There were no significant changes in BW, BMI, %BF, and MM after the training. WHR was significantly decreased at 6 months and 1-year follow-up points compared to baseline. There was no statistically significant difference in grip strength, but there was a significant increase after 6 months and 1 year after standing up right, one leg standing, sit and reach, and 2-min walking tests. There were no significant differences in the levels of glucose, SBP, DBP, TC, LDL-c, and TG, but there was a significant increase in HDL-c after 1-year.

The unprecedented phospha-aza-Diels-Alder reaction between an activated electron-poor imine and 2H-phospholes yields 1-phospha-2-azanorbornenes in a highly chemoselective and moderately diastereoselective reaction. The intermediate 2H-phospholes, which act as dienes, are formed in situ from the corresponding 1H-phospholes. Theoretical calculations confirm that the phospha-aza-Diels-Alder reaction is of normal electron demand. The reactive P-N bond in 1-phospha-2-azanorbornenes can be cleaved by nucleophiles leading to the formation of 2,3-dihydrophospholes.

Purine nucleotides such as ATP and ADP are important extracellular signaling molecules in almost all tissues activating various subtypes of purinoreceptors. In the brain, the P2Y1 receptor (P2Y1R) subtype mediates trophic functions like differentiation and proliferation, and modulates fast synaptic transmission, both suggested to be affected in diseases of the central nervous system. Research on P2Y1R is limited because suitable brain-penetrating P2Y1R-selective tracers are not yet available. Here, we describe the first efforts to develop an 18F-labeled PET tracer based on the structure of the highly affine and selective, non-nucleotidic P2Y1R allosteric modulator 1-(2-[2-(tert-butyl)phenoxy]pyridin-3-yl)-3-[4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]urea (7). A small series of fluorinated compounds was developed by systematic modification of the p-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl, the urea and the 2-pyridyl subunits of the lead compound 7. Additionally, the p-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl subunit was substituted by carborane, a boron-rich cluster with potential applicability in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). By functional assays, the new fluorinated derivative 1-{2-[2-(tert-butyl)phenoxy]pyridin-3-yl}-3-[4-(2-fluoroethyl)phenyl]urea (18) was identified with a high P2Y1R antagonistic potency (IC50 = 10 nM). Compound [18F]18 was radiosynthesized by using tetra-n-butyl ammonium [18F]fluoride with high radiochemical purity, radiochemical yield and molar activities. Investigation of brain homogenates using hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) revealed [18F]fluoride as major radiometabolite. Although [18F]18 showed fast in vivo metabolization, the high potency and unique allosteric binding mode makes this class of compounds interesting for further optimizations and investigation of the theranostic potential as PET tracer and BNCT agent.

Background: Atrial fibrillation is associated with increased risks of death, stroke/systemic embolism, and bleeding (incurred by antithrombotic therapy), which may occur early after diagnosis. Methods: We assessed the risk of early events (death, stroke/systemic embolism, and major bleeding) over 12 months and their relation to the time after diagnosis of atrial fibrillation in 52 014 patients prospectively enrolled in the GARFIELD-AF registry (Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation) between March 2010 and August 2016. Results: Over 12 months, 2140 patients died (mortality rate, 4.3; 95% CI, 4.2–4.5 per 100 person-years), of whom 288 (13.5%) died in the first month (6.8; 95% CI, 6.1–7.6). Over 12 months, 657 patients had a stroke/systemic embolism (1.3; 95% CI, 1.2–1.4) and 411 had a major bleeding (0.8; 95% CI, 0.8–0.9). During the first month, the rates (per 100 person-years) of stroke/systemic embolism and major bleed were 2.3 (95% CI, 1.9–2.8) and 1.5 (95% CI, 1.2–1.9), respectively. The elevated 1-month mortality rate was mostly attributable to cardiovascular mortality (3.5; 95% CI, 3.0–4.1), in particular, heart failure, sudden death, and acute coronary syndromes (1.0 [95% CI, 0.8–1.4], 0.6 [95% CI, 0.4–0.8], and 0.5 [95% CI, 0.3–0.8], respectively). Age, heart failure, prior stroke, history of cirrhosis, vascular disease, moderate-to-severe kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and living in North or Latin America were independent predictors of a higher risk of early death, whereas anticoagulation and living in Europe or Asia were independent predictors of a lower risk of early death. A predictive model developed for the 1-month risk of death had a C-statistic of 0.81 (95% CI, 0.78–0.83). Conclusions: The increased hazard of early events, in particular, cardiovascular mortality, in newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation points to the importance of comprehensive care for such patients and should alert clinicians to detect warning signs of possible early mortality. The Streptococcus mutans Cid/Lrg system represents an ideal model for studying this organism's ability to withstand various stressors encountered in the oral cavity. The lrg and cid operons display distinct and opposite patterns of expression in response to growth phase and glucose levels, suggesting that the activity and regulation of these proteins must be tightly coordinated in the cell and closely associated with metabolic pathways of the organism. Here, we demonstrate that expression of the cid and lrg operons is directly mediated by a global transcriptional regulator CcpA in response to glucose levels. Comparison of the cid and lrg promoter regions with the conserved CcpA binding motif revealed the presence of two potential cre sites (for CcpA binding) in the cid promoter (designated cid-cre1 and cid-cre2), which were arranged in a similar manner to those previously identified in the lrg promoter region (designated lrg-cre1 and lrg-cre2). We demonstrated that CcpA binds to both the cid and lrg promoters with a high affinity, but has an opposing glucose-dependent effect on the regulation of cid (positive) and lrg (negative) expression. DNase I footprinting analyses revealed potential binding sequences for CcpA in both cid and lrg promoter regions. Collectively, these data suggest that CcpA is a direct regulator of cid and lrg expression, and are suggestive of a potential mechanism by which Cid/Lrg-mediated virulence and cellular homeostasis is integrated with signals associated with both the environment and cellular metabolic status.

The dinuclear ruthenium(II) phosphine complexes Ru2Cl(O2CCHxF3−x)3(PPh3)4(μ-H2O) (x = 0, 1, 2), containing fluoroacetate ligands, were prepared from RuCl2(PPh3)3 and NaO2CCHxF3−x in tBuOH. The X-ray characterization of these complexes reveals a bridging water molecule, stabilized by hydrogen bonds with the fluoroacetate ligands. The isolation of the complex Ru(O2CCF3)2(PPh3)2 is described, starting from RuCl2(PPh3)3 or Ru2Cl(O2CCF3)3(PPh3)4(μ-H2O) and TlO2CCF3, correcting the reported preparation in which Ru2Cl(O2CCF3)3(PPh3)4(μ-H2O) was obtained. Ru(O2CCF3)2(PPh3)2 easily reacts with CO, affording Ru(O2CCF3)2(CO)2(PPh3)2. The protonation of Ru(OAc)2(dppb) with trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of bidentate O and N donor ligands affords the complexes Ru(O2CCF3)2(dppb)(LL) (LL = ethyleneglycol, ethylenediamine), which are catalytically active in the transfer hydrogenation of ketones with 2-propanol. In the reduction of cyclohexanone, the glycol derivative displays a higher catalytic activity than the diamine complex, reaching a TOF of 22 000 h−1.

In this study, we investigated the feasibility of enzymatic digestion of polysaccharides for cell sheet harvesting. Cellulose was digested using cellulase; in brief, cellulose was pre-coated under a confluent cell layer, and then enzymatic digestion of cellulose under the confluent cell layer enabled cell detachment with minimal cell damage, yielding cell sheets. For the surface adhesion of the cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) molecules were conjugated with dopamine (DA), and the synthesized CMC-DA was pre-treated onto the surface of the culture plates. Then, human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) or corneal limbal epithelial cells (hCLEs) were cultured on the pre-coated CMC-DA and harvested using cellulase containing cell culture medium. Single hMSCs treated with cellulase showed higher proliferative activity, showing an aggregated morphology compared with trypsin-treated hMSCs. Additionally, hMSC sheets were detached from the pre-coated CMC-DA surface 10 min after cellulase treatment. Also, hCLE sheets were generated with a well-preserved morphology and transparency after cellulase-assisted cell sheet generation. These results demonstrate that the strategy of CMC-DA coating combined with cellulase enzymatic harvesting is an effective option for harvesting cell sheets.

We successfully demonstrated the effect of a membrane reactor for methanol synthesis to improve one-pass CO2 conversion. An Si-rich LTA membrane for dehydration from a methanol synthesis reaction field was synthesized by the seed-assisted hydrothermal synthesis method. The H2O permselective performance of the membrane showed 1.5 × 10−6 mol m−2 s−1 Pa−1 as H2O permeance and around 2000 as selectivity of H2O/MeOH at 473 K. From the results of membrane reactor tests, the CO2 conversion of the membrane reactor was higher than that of the conventional packed-bed reactor under the all of experimental conditions. Especially, at 4 MPa of reaction pressure, the conversion using the membrane reactor was around 60%. In the case of using a packed-bed reactor, the conversion was 20% under the same conditions. In addition, the calculated and experimental conversion were in good agreement in both the case of the membrane reactor and packed-bed reactor.

Mode of action studies showed that 5-methyl-N,N-bis[6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl]pyridin-2-amine (4), a representative from a new class of herbicidal tris-pyridyl amines, is an inhibitor of cellulose biosynthesis (CB). The compound undergoes an oxidative photocyclization, when exposed to UV-B light (300–340 nm) in the presence of oxygen, to give a new class of herbicidal pyrrolodipyridines. These compounds are potent inhibitors of the herbicide target enzyme phytoene desaturase and no longer inhibit CB.

The development of novel, tumor-selective and boron-rich compounds as potential agents for use in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) represents a very important field in cancer treatment by radiation therapy. Here, we report the design and synthesis of two promising compounds that combine meta-carborane, a water-soluble monosaccharide and a linking unit, namely glycine or ethylenediamine, for facile coupling with various tumor-selective biomolecules bearing a free amino or carboxylic acid group. In this work, coupling experiments with two selected biomolecules, a coumarin derivative and folic acid, were included. The task of every component in this approach was carefully chosen: the carborane moiety supplies ten boron atoms, which is a tenfold increase in boron content compared to the l-boronophenylalanine (l-BPA) presently used in BNCT, the sugar moiety compensates for the hydrophobic character of the carborane, the linking unit, depending on the chosen biomolecule, acts as the connection between the tumor-selective component and the boron-rich moiety, and the respective tumor-selective biomolecule provides the necessary selectivity. This approach makes it possible to develop a modular and feasible strategy for the synthesis of readily obtainable boron-rich agents with optimized properties for potential applications in BNCT.

To use implantable biomedical devices such as electrocardiograms and neurostimulators in the human body, it is necessary to package them with biocompatible materials that protect the internal electronic circuits from the body’s internal electrolytes and moisture without causing foreign body reactions. Herein, we describe a hydrogel surface-modified polyurethane copolymer film with concurrent water permeation resistance and biocompatibility properties for application to an implantable biomedical device. To achieve this, hydrophobic polyurethane copolymers comprising hydrogenated poly(ethylene-co-butylene) (HPEB) and aliphatic poly(carbonate) (PC) were synthesized and their hydrophobicity degree and mechanical properties were adjusted by controlling the copolymer composition ratio. When 10 wt% PC was introduced, the polyurethane copolymer exhibited hydrophobicity and water permeation resistance similar to those of HPEB, however, with improved mechanical properties. Subsequently, a hydrophilic poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) hydrogel layer was formed on the surface of the polyurethane copolymer film by Fenton reaction using an initiator and crosslinking agent and the effect of the initiator and crosslinking agent immobilization time, PVP concentration and crosslinking agent concentration on the hydrogel properties were investigated. Finally, MTT assay showed that the hydrogel surface-modified polyurethane copolymer film displays excellent biocompatibility.

Safety assessment of biological drugs has its challenges due to the multiple new different modalities, for example, antibody-drug conjugates, bispecifics, nanobodies, fusion proteins and advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), their different pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, and their ability to trigger immunogenicity and toxicity. In the public and in the pharmaceutical industry, there is a strong and general desire to reduce the number of animals used in research and development of drugs and in particular reducing the use of nonhuman primates. Important discussions and activities are ongoing investigating the smarter designs of early research and dose range finding studies, reuse of animals, and replacing animal experiments with in vitro studies. Other important challenges include absence of a relevant species and design of studies and developing genetically modified animals for special investigative toxicology studies. Then, the learnings and challenges from the development of the first ATMPs are available providing valuable insights in the development path for these new potentially transformative treatments. Finally, development of strategies for assessment of immunogenicity and prediction of translation of immunogenicity and associated findings to the clinic. On this, the eighth meeting for the European BioSafe members, these challenges served as the basis for the presentations and discussions during the meeting. This article serves as the workshop report reviewing the presentations and discussions at the meeting.

(R)-[Ru(eta(6)-p-(MeC6H4Pr)-Pr-i)Cl-2{Ph2PNHCH(CH3)(C6H4-4-F)}] (1) and cis-(R,R)-[PtCl2{Ph2PNHCH(CH3)(C6H4-4-F)}(2)] (2) have been obtained by the reaction of the chiral aminophosphine (R)-Ph2PNHCH(CH3)(C6H4-4-F) with [{RuCl(mu-Cl)(eta(6)-p-(MeC6H4Pr)-Pr-i)}(2)] or [PtCl2(cod)] (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene). Both complexes were characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. Compound 1 was also characterized by X-ray crystallography. The antitumor potential of both compounds was investigated by using the crystal violet antiproliferation assay. Complexes 1 and 2 were found to inhibit the growth of three human cancer cell lines, whereby the Ru complex was considerably more potent than the Pt complex, with IC50 values between 1 and 3 and 12-15 mu M, respectively, but still less potent than cisplatin in the same three cell lines.

This study aims to examine the contribution of nanoporous silica entrapped lipid-drug complexes (NSCs) in improving the solubility and bioavailability of dutasteride (DUT). An NSC was loaded with DUT (dissolved in lipids) and dispersed at a nanoscale level using an entrapment technique. NSC microemulsion formation was confirmed using a ternary phase diagram, while the presence of DUT and lipid entrapment in NSC was confirmed using scanning electron microscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction revealed the amorphous properties of NSC. The prepared all NSC had excellent flowability and enhanced DUT solubility but showed no significant difference in drug content homogeneity. An increase in the lipid content of NSC led to an increase in the DUT solubility. Further the NSC were formulated as tablets using D-&alpha, tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate, glyceryl caprylate/caprate, and Neusilin&reg, The NSC tablets showed a high dissolution rate of 99.6% at 30 min. Furthermore, NSC stored for 4 weeks at 60 &deg, C was stable during dissolution testing. Pharmacokinetic studies performed in beagle dogs revealed enhanced DUT bioavailability when administered as NSC tablets. NSC can be used as a platform to develop methods to overcome the technical and commercial limitations of lipid-based preparations of poorly soluble drugs.

Changing the aromatic core of C3-symmetric tris(ferrocenyl)arene-based tris-phosphanes has profound effects on their coordination behaviour towards gold(I). Depending on the arene (s-triazine, benzene, or trifluorobenzene), four different coordination modes can be distinguished and their preference has been rationalised using computational methods. The corresponding 1 : 1 ligand-to-metal complexes, studied by variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy, revealed fluctional behaviour in solution. Given the presence of up to three or six ferrocenylene spacers per complex, their electrochemistry was investigated. The redox-responsive nature of the complexes can be advantageously exploited in the catalytic ring-closing isomerisation of N-(2-propyn-1-yl)benzamide, where the benzene-based 2 : 3 ligand-to-metal complex has been shown to display multiple activity states depending on the degree of (reversible) oxidation in a preliminary trial., Dalton Transactions, 49 (46), ISSN:1477-9226, ISSN:1477-9234

Summary Background and aims Sarcopenia, defined as loss of muscle mass, strength and function, is associated with adverse clinical outcomes in patients with cirrhosis. Despite improved understanding of the multifaceted pathogenesis, there are few established therapies to treat or prevent muscle loss in this population. This narrative review examines the available literature investigating the role of nutraceuticals for the prevention or treatment of muscle wasting in chronic liver disease. Methods A comprehensive search or Medline and PubMED databases was conducted. Reference lists were screened to identify additional articles. Results A number of nutritional supplements and vitamins target the specific metabolic derangements that contribute to sarcopenia in cirrhosis including altered amino acid metabolism, hyperammonaemia and inflammation. Branched chain amino acid (BCAA) supplementation has proposed anabolic effects through dual pathways of enhanced ammonia clearance and stimulation of muscle protein synthesis. l -carnitine also has multimodal effects on muscle and shows promise as a therapy for muscle loss through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and ammonia lowering properties. Other nutraceuticals including l -ornithine l -aspartate, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and zinc and vitamin D supplementation, may similarly have positive effects on muscle homeostasis, however further evidence to support their use in cirrhotic populations is required. Conclusion Nutraceuticals offer a promising and likely safe adjunct to standard care for sarcopenia in cirrhosis. While there is most evidence to support the use of BCAA and l -carnitine supplementation, further well-designed clinical trials are needed to elucidate their efficacy as a therapy for muscle loss in this population.

Background Phthalates can cause respiratory and immunological disorders. However, little is known about the role of serum periostin and YKL-40 levels in mediating the effects of phthalates. We investigated the mediating role of these biomarkers in the relationship between phthalates and airway dysfunction. Methods A total of 487 children (aged 10 to 12 years-old) were examined. Four high-molecular-weight phthalate (HMWP) [Σ4 HMWP] metabolites and 3 low-molecular-weight phthalate (LMWP) [Σ3 LMWP] metabolites in urine samples were measured. Serum periostin and YKL-40 levels were measured. Airway function was measured using impulse oscillometry. A mediation model was used to quantify the mediating effects of periostin and YKL-40 on airway dysfunction. Results After adjustment for height, gender, BMI z-score, aeroallergen sensitization, secondary smoking, and vitamin D level, the level of urinary Σ3 LMWP metabolites was significantly associated with respiratory system resistance at 5 Hz (Rrs5; adjusted β: 0.020, 95% CI: 0.005 to 0.034; P = .010). The levels of urinary Σ4 HMWP and Σ3 LMWP metabolites were significantly associated with periostin level, but not with YKL-40 level. In addition, the periostin level was associated with Rrs5 (adjusted β: 0.048, 95% CI: 0.015 to 0.081; P = .005) and Rrs20-5 (adjusted β: 0.040, 95% CI: 0.011 to 0.069; P =.007). Serum periostin level had a significant effect in mediating the relationship between Σ3LMWP and Rrs5 (13.9%, 95% CI: 10.7 to 77.0; P Conclusion Exposure to LMWPs was significantly associated with airway dysfunction, and this effect was partially attributable to increased serum periostin level.

The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of chiral 1-alkyl-1,2-diphosphacyclopenta-2,4-dienes ((1-(−)-menthyl)oxymethyl-1,2-diphosphole and 1-(+)-neomenthyl-1,2-diphosphole) with diphenyldiazomethane leads to novel P-chiral bicyclic phosphiranes having six chiral centers. The degree of diastereoselectivity depends on the substituent at phosphorus, and dramatically increases in the case of (+)-neomenthyl group (de up to 71%). DFT calculations indicate that the cycloaddition is thermodynamically controlled.

The hydration behavior of alkyl-diammonium di-cations and alkyl-dicarboxylate di-anions, of varying alkyl chain length, was examined using basin-hopping (BH) global optimization techniques. For every di-ion investigated, a conformational transition from linear to folded is observed at a critical hydration number, n*, specific to each di-ion. A stepwise hydration study has been undertaken for alkyl-dicarboxylate di-anions in finite water clusters containing 1-12 water molecules, and low-energy structures have been examined for larger water clusters. An even number of carbons in the alkyl chain gives rise to more stable conformations in unhydrated, implicitly solvated, and explicitly solvated conditions. This work provides valuable information on how the hydration of ammonium and carboxylate ions influence larger biomolecules' conformations.

Dysfunctional resolution of intestinal inflammation and altered mucosal healing are essential features in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Intestinal macrophages are vital in the process of resolution of inflammation but the mechanisms underlying their mucosal healing capacity remains elusive. Here, we describe a subset of E prostanoid receptor 4 (EP4) expressing intestinal macrophages with mucosal healing properties both in human and mice. Notably, Csf1r-iCre EP4-fl/fl mice showed defective mucosal healing and intestinal epithelial barrier regeneration in a dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis model. Mechanistically, an increased mucosal level of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) triggers the secretion of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1 (CXCL1) in monocyte-derived EP4+ macrophages via MAPKs. Subsequently, CXCL1 drives epithelial cell differentiation and proliferation from regenerating crypts during the resolution phase of colitis. Thus, EP4+ intestinal macrophages are essential for the support of the intestinal stem cell niche and for the regeneration of the injured epithelium.One Sentence SummaryProstaglandin E2 licenses E-type prostanoid receptor 4 intestinal macrophage regenerative capacity promoting mucosal healing via the secretion of CXCL1
