Abstract Complexation in aqueous salt-free semidilute solutions of poly(styrenesulfonic acid) and poly(ethylene oxide) leading to the formation of soluble poly(styrenesulfonic acid)–poly(ethylene oxide) complexes is studied. It is shown that the interaction of the components in such complexes significantly weakens with an increase in temperature, as well as with a decrease in the poly(ethylene oxide) chain length. Using viscometry and light scattering, it is demonstrated that, in dilute aqueous and aqueous-saline solutions, no complexes are formed between poly(styrenesulfonic acid) and poly(ethylene oxide) and the system is a compatible mixture of the polymers in a common solvent.

Objectives. To study the intensity of the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in glial cells in the substantia nigra of the brain in rats of different ages in health and in neuroinflammation. Materials and methods. Experiments were performed on 36 male Wistar rats – 18 young animals with body weight 250–300 g and 18 old animals with body weight 380–420 g. Immunohistochemical studies detected the study markers on cryostat sections in astro- and microgliocytes in the substantia nigra eight weeks after unilateral stereotaxic administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) into this area. Results. Significantly greater numbers of GFAP- and CD11β-positive cells (astro- and microgliocytes respectively) were seen in the substantia nigra of the brains of older rats. Age-dependent differences were seen in LPS-induced BDNF and iNOS production eight weeks after administration of endotoxin. Administration of LPS intensified the production of BDNF in astrocytes in young but not old animals, while the microgliocytes of old rats showed significant intensification of iNOS expression. Conclusions. The balance of trophic and harmful factors synthesized by glial cells in the substantia nigra of the midbrain in response to endotoxin stimulation depended on age. The glial reaction to endotoxin in young animals was protective in nature, while in old animals it increased the risk of oxidative neuron injury.

In this work, preparation of thermal barrier coatings based on zirconium oxide is shown. The phased treatment of the copper substrate is proposed in order to obtain a layered thermal barrier oxide coating on it. The sample surface is nanostructured, titanium is deposited layer-by-layer (by the vacuum-arc method) and then zirconium (by the magnetron method), and then zirconium is converted into zirconium dioxide by the microplasma method. The formed oxide-ceramic coatings contain elements from a solution, according to the results of elemental analysis, and zirconium dioxide in tetragonal and monoclinic modifications, according to the results of X-ray diffraction. A study of thermal cyclic stability was carried out. It is revealed that an increase in the time of microplasma treatment to a certain value has a positive effect on the thermal cyclic properties of the obtained layer material and it is able to sustain more than 90 cycles without serious damage to the surface layer.

he aim of study was to identify a response of the thymus CD68+ cells population to the introduction of tautomeric forms of magnesium orotate under magnesium deficiency.Material and methods. Magnesium-deficient status in rats was simulated by furosemide loading (30 mg/kg 14 days); then the animals were injected magnesium orotate in the initial oxo-form (Magnerot©, Vervag, Germany) and hydroxy-form obtained by mechanical activation, dosage 50 mg/kg, for 14 days., The density of thymocytes and macrophages was calculated in the subcapsular zone, cortex and brain matter (stained with hematoxylin and eosin) in the thymus, macrophages were studied immunohistochemically using monoclonal CD68 antibodies (Clone PG-M1).Results. The oxo-form of the drug was shown to lead to an increase in the number of CD68+ cells in the cortex of thymus (1.7 compared with the control) and medulla of thymus (2.3 times), an increase in the intensity of immunofluorescence (22.5%), the appearance of the thymus lobule of large CD68+cells in the cortex and the medulla part with a clearly traced intracellular localization of granules. The introduction of mechanically activated hydroxyl-form was accompanied by an increase in the number of CD68+ macrophages in the cortical area (1.5 times), and cortico-medullary partition (in 1.4 times), but did not affect the cerebral area of the thymus. The overall intensity of fluorescent staining reduced to 27.87±2.2 relative units (RU).Conclusion. The tautomeric forms of magnesium orotate have a diverse effect on the macrophage population of the thymus: the introduction of the oxo-form is accompanied by a significant activating effect on the CD68+macrophages in contrast to the hydroxyl form having a moderate modulating effect.

Current work describes the production of multi-component single-layer and multi-layer coatings by pulsed magnetron sputtering. The study scrutinizes the coatings in terms of their composition (X-ray diffraction analysis, XRD) and microstructure (transmission electron microscopy, TEM). The results demonstrate that the multi-component single-layer Al-Si-N coatings have nanocrystalline structure, while all the layers of the multi-layer Al-Si-N/Al-Si-0 coatings are amorphous due to the ingress of oxygen.

The results of investigation of the surface of a copper substrate modified with titanium ions are presented. Using TEM it has been established that a multi-level micro- and nanoporous nanocrystalline structure is formed due to simultaneous ion etching, heating, radiation-stimulated diffusion in the surface layer of the metal substrate. When bombarded with titanium ions the intermetallic phases of the equilibrium diagram of the Cu-Ti are formed. The penetration depth of titanium into the copper substrate under ion treatment has investigated in detail. It has been found that the phase composition and the surface morphology are dependent on fluence of the ion treatment.

Producing of cutting tools with high sharpness of the cutting edge (characterized by a small conditional inscribed roundness radius) improves the quality of edge cutting processing of hard-to-cut parts. However, existing carbides do not withstand increased contact loads and quickly destroy. This leads to a deterioration of the quality of the processed surface and to failure of the tool. The paper investigates the influence of different types of processing on the wear of carbide plates. It is found that an increase in the grinding speed leads to a decrease in roughness and an increase in tool life. The efficient ways of the improvement of plate wear resistance are the processing of plates with rhenium and argon ions and the application of thin Al–Si–N coatings.

The soil sorption properties were determined for the base of ash storage at a proposed power station on Sakhalin Island. The analyses of aqueous extracts of the coal ashes that are intended for use at the station resulted in the identification of potential pollutant elements that might be transferred with the infiltrate of atmospheric precipitation. The composition of the infiltrate-modeling solution was selected based on the data. The sorption capacity of the covering soil by identified pollutants was evaluated at static and dynamic conditions, along with the degree of potential desorption of these pollutants.

The paper focuses on the effect of spontaneous electric field emergence in mixtures of cesium nitrate and/or potassium permanganate microparticles with nickel, aluminum and aluminum oxide nanoparticles in the hydrogen atmosphere. It was established that increase in the share of Ni, Al or Al2O3 nanoparticles in the mix with KMnO4 powder from 0 to 0.25 (in terms of weight) leads to gradual decrease in electric field density in the powder to zero (T = 22–250°C). The authors identified the stimulating effect of nickel nanoparticles on hydrogen-initiated electric field emergence in the CsNO3 powder. It was established that spontaneous polarization of powders is caused by dissociative chemisorption of hydrogen molecules on the surface of KMnO4 and CsNO3 particles.

Core–shell polyaniline–latex particles have been obtained via oxidative polymerization of aniline hydrochloride in the presence of charged polystyrene latex. The polymerization conditions have been determined under which polyaniline is predominantly formed on the surface of latex particles to yield closed shells. The dependence of the electrical conductivity of the resulting particles on the initial concentration of aniline hydrochloride in the polymerization medium has been studied. Stable aqueous dispersions of polyaniline–latex particles have been prepared by modifying the particles with sodium 3-mercaptopropane sulfonate.

The results of investigation of the surface of a copper substrate modified by titanium ions are presented. Using TEM it has been established that a two-level micro- and nanoporous nanocrystalline structure is formed due to simultaneous ion etching, heating, radiation-stimulated diffusion in the surface layer of the metal substrate. When bombarded with titanium ions the phases of the equilibrium diagram of the Cu-Ti were formed with a characteristic dimension of the elements of the intermetallic “net” structure of 1–4 µm in size. The mechanical properties of the surface layer of the copper modified by titanium ions are studied.

This study analyzes the dependences of the size of the luminous region of hydrocarbon pellet cloud on the ablation rate, as well as on the ambient plasma electron density and temperature. The data were obtained in a series of experiments where spherical solid polystyrene pellets with a diameter of ≈900 μm at a speed of ≈450 m s−1 were injected into hydrogen plasma of the large helical device. The ambient plasma with an electron temperature of 0.5–1.5 keV and a density of (1–7) × 1019 m−3 was maintained by injection of neutral atom beams with total the heating power of 3–14 MW. A scaling law was derived for determining the transverse size of the cloud’s luminous region from the known values of the pellet’s current radius as well as the values of the density and temperature of the ambient plasma at the place of image acquisition. The interdependencies between various dimensions of the luminous region obtained in the line spectrum are established. The presence of such dependences makes it possible to describe the dimensions of the luminous region comprehensively by means of the scaling law for its transverse size.

The use of complex non-drug technologies at the stage of rehabilitation of metabolic syndrome (MS) includes multifactorial correction of its main manifestations: abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, arterial hypertension and dyslipidemia. A prospective randomized study on the use of low-calorie diet (LCD) and nutraceutical correction of the nutritional status of patients with MS was carried out.To study the effect of a non-drug complex including LCD, physical exercises, as well as correction of the gut microbiome and hepatic protection in relation to reduction of visceral fat volume in abdominal obesity and the dynamics of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism hormones in metabolic syndrome.120 patients with MS were randomized into 2 groups: Group 1 received LCD, physical exercises in the gym, and physical activity like daily walking up to 3-5 km/day. Group 2 received LCD, physical exercises in the gym, physical activity like daily walking up to 3-5 km/day, as well as nutraceutical correction of increased appetite, gut probiotic composition, hepatic protection. The treatment duration was 4 weeks. Anthropometric methods in order to control the body weight, waist and hip circumferences and bioimpedansometry were used.As a treatment result, patients in group 1 represented a reduction in body weight, lean and active cell mass, a decrease in musculoskeletal mass and a decrease in total fluid due to extracellular fluid. A decrease in total cholesterol and blood triglyceride fraction was noted. Leptin decreased by 13.96%. Patients of the 2Thus, LCD accompanied by nutraceutical correction of the gut microbiota and hepatic protection can be effectively used in combination with physical training in order to reduce the fat mass without pre-sarcopenia development that was confirmed by positive dynamics of volume indices, bioimpedance measurements and reduction in leptin and insulin expression. 13,96%. Current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) films with the inclusion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) deposited on silicon and ITO substrates were experimentally studied. It is shown that such structures demonstrate rectifying properties and their current-voltage characteristics are nonlinear. With direct bias, the structures have a positive temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). With a reverse bias, the sign of TCR changes from negative to positive. A qualitative analysis of the results based on the tunneling mechanism of current transfer is presented.

The interaction of hydrogen molecules with the surface of the particles of a finely disperse dielectric CsNO3, KMnO4, or Pb(NO3)2 was found to be accompanied by the emergence of an electric field in the powder layer. This effect is independent of the material of the identical metal electrodes (Pt, Au, Hf, Mo, Pb, Al) and is determined by the decay into hydrogen Н+ ions and the electrons of the chemisorbed Н2 molecules.

Glucoamylase from fungus Aspergillus awamori is glycoside hydrolase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of α-1,4- and α-1,6-glucosidic bonds in glucose polymers and oligomers. This glycoprotein consists of a catalytic domain and a starch-binding domain connected by an O-glycosylated polypeptide chain. The conformation of the linker, the relative arrangement of the domains, and the structure of the full-length enzyme are unknown. The structure of the recombinant glucoamylase GA1 was studied by molecular modelling and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) methods. The experimental SANS data provide evidence that glucoamylase exists as a monomer in solution and contains a glycoside component, which makes a substantial contribution to the scattering. The model of full-length glucoamylase, which was calculated without taking into account the effect of glycosylation, is consistent with the experimental data and has a radius of gyration of 33.4 ± 0.6 A.

The temperature regime is calculated for two different designs of containers with uranium-bearing material for the upgraded VVR-Ts research reactor facility (IVV.10M). The containers are to be used in the production of 99Mo. It is demonstrated that the modification of the container design leads to a considerable temperature reduction and an increase in the near-wall boiling margin and allows one to raise the amount of material loaded into the container. The calculations were conducted using the international thermohydraulic contour code TRAC intended to analyze the technical safety of water-cooled nuclear power units.

Results of numerical simulation of signals from neutral particle analyzers under injection of the heating and diagnostic neutral beams in different operating modes of the ITER tokamak are presented. The distribution functions of fast ions in plasma are simulated, and the corresponding neutral particle fluxes escaping from the plasma along the line of sight of the analyzers are calculated. It is shown that the injection of heating deuterium (D0) beams results in the appearance of an intense background signal hampering measurements of the ratio between the densities of deuterium and tritium fuel ions in plasma in the thermal energy range. The injection of a diagnostic hydrogen (H0) beam does not affect measurements owing to the high mass resolution of the analyzers.

A mechanism of extraction of cerium by tributyl phosphate (TBP) from phosphate solutions using model and production solutions containing, %: 26–28 P2O5, 1.2–2.8 SO3, 0.3–0.8 CaO, 0.1–0.4 Al2O3, 0.3–0.4 Fe2O3, and 0.09–0.1 REE(NO3)3 is investigated. The model solution of phosphoric acid corresponds to the industrial solution of extraction phosphoric acid (EPA) by the content of P2O5 and Ce(NO3)3 and value of pH (0.6). Dependences of extraction parameters on the TBP concentration in o-xylene and concentration of nitrate ions introduced by magnesium and calcium nitrates, which are used as a salting-out agent, are found. The composition of the extracted organic complex of cerium Ce(H2PO4)(NO3)2TBPorg is determined. A constant of extraction equilibrium and the Gibbs energy of extraction are calculated. It is concluded by the results of the experiment that it is unreasonable to use TBP to extract Ce from phosphoric acid systems without introducing a considerable amount of the salting-out agent.

The required combination of performance properties for internal tin Nb3Sn wires for high energy physics includes high critical current density (J c) and RRR values as well as low magnetization and effective diameters (Deff ) value. It is quite a challenge to achieve them all at once. A comprehensive study has been carried out on two internal tin Nb3Sn wires with essentially different layouts and 37 sub-elements each. The first type of wires has distributed diffusion barriers. The second one has common diffusion barrier with sub-elements internally divided by resistive separators. Two sets of data for two types of wires have been obtained, which include transport measurements of J c(B), magnetization loops M(B), superconducting transition temperature (Tc), RRR values, Sn-concentration by EDAX measurements and XRD analysis. XRD analysis of the superconducting layers has shown that the compressive macrostress is larger for the wire with overall barrier than for the wire with distributed diffusion barriers. This observation correlates with a shift of the stress-dependent curves of the superconducting transition. The difference in the volume fractions and the homogeneities of the Nb3Sn phase leads to a significant difference of the J c(B) dependences and the values of the Kramer critical field (BKr) for these types of wires. In summary, the high critical current density for the first type of wires and the low hysteresis losses for the second type of wires have achieved with high RRR values in both cases.

The effect of irradiation with H+ and Ne+ ions with an energy of 150 keV on memristive Au/SiO x /TiN/Ti structures, which were obtained by magnetron sputtering and exhibited a reproducible resistive switching effect, is studied. It is demonstrated that the low and high resistance states remain unchanged up to a dose of 1 × 1016 cm–2 in the case of irradiation with H+ ions and a dose of ~3 × 1015 cm–2 under irradiation with Ne+ ions. Immobilization of 210Ро on natural minerals (magnetite, glauconite), rocks (basalt, dunite), and synthesized manganese dioxide of the composition MnO1.97 was studied. Basic and ultrabasic rocks (basalts, dunites) widely occurring in the nature can be used for making artificial geochemical barriers for the removal of Po from weakly acidic and neutral liquid radioactive wastes. Dunite ensures the most efficient 210Ро immobilization from acidic solutions, and basalt, from neutral solutions. The degree of 210Ро removal upon 48-h interaction with dunite and basalt was 93 and 80% relative to its initial content in solutions with initial pH 3.0 and 7.0, respectively. With all the samples except MnO1.97, the 210Ро immobilization in the initial step (0–5 h) is more efficient in the initially neutral solutions, but with time the degree of the 210Ро removal from the initially acidic solutions becomes higher. The rate of the 210Ро immobilization on MnO1.97 does not appreciably depend on pH in the examined acidity range.

Electrically conducting samples of polymer composites of different compositions based on the reactor powder of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) with a special morphology filled with fine powders of graphite, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and electrically conducting carbon black (CB) are investigated. Strengthened oriented electrically conductive polymer composites possessing high tensile strength and conductivity values are obtained by the compaction of mechanical mixtures of the polymer and fillers powders, followed by the uniaxial deformation of materials under homogeneous shear conditions. Changes in the electrical conductivity of oriented composite materials during reversible “tension-contraction” cycles along the orientation axis direction are studied. The influence of the type of nanosized carbon filler on the electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of strengthened conductive composites oriented under homogeneous shear conditions is investigated.

Rheological properties of dispersions of carbon nanotubes in dimethylsulfoxide solutions of polyacrylonitrile are studied at different concentrations of the components. The viscosity values of all the studied dispersions are substantially dependent on shear rate. For a number of systems, the energies of activation of viscous flow are determined. The relationship of viscosity and the energy of activation of flow to the compositions and possible structural features of dispersions is discussed. The concentration regime where a thermally reversible mixed network exists with crosslinks formed by physical contacts of the polymer with nano-tubes is characterized.
