Purpose To determine whether eyes with pathologic myopia can be identified and whether each type of myopic maculopathy lesion on fundus photographs can be diagnosed by deep learning (DL) algorithms. Design A DL algorithm was developed to recognize myopic maculopathy features and to categorize the myopic maculopathy automatically. Participants We examined 7020 fundus images from 4432 highly myopic eyes obtained from the Advanced Clinical Center for Myopia. Methods Deep learning (DL) algorithms were developed to recognize the key features of myopic maculopathy with 5176 fundus images. These algorithms were also used to develop a Meta-analysis for Pathologic Myopia (META-PM) study categorizing system (CS) by adding a specific processing layer. Models and the system were evaluated by 1844 fundus image. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity were used to determine the performance of each DL algorithm. The rate of correct predictions was used to determine the performance of the META-PM study CS. Main Outcome Measures Four trained DL models were able to recognize the lesions of myopic maculopathy accurately with high sensitivity and specificity. The META-PM study CS also showed a high accuracy and was qualified to be used in a semiautomated way during screening for myopic maculopathy in highly myopic eyes. Results The sensitivity of the DL models was 84.44% for diffuse atrophy, 87.22% for patchy atrophy, 85.10% for macular atrophy, and 37.07% for choroidal neovascularization, and the AUC values were 0.970, 0.978, 0.982, and 0.881, respectively. The rate of total correct predictions from the META-PM study CS was 87.53%, with rates of 90.18%, 95.28%, 97.50%, and 91.14%, respectively, for each type of lesion. The META-PM study CS showed an overall rate of 92.08% in detecting pathologic myopia correctly, which was defined as having myopic maculopathy equal to or more serious than diffuse atrophy. Conclusions The novel DL models and system can achieve high sensitivity and specificity in identifying the different types of lesions of myopic maculopathy. These results will assist in the screening for pathologic myopia and subsequent protection of patients against low vision and blindness caused by myopic maculopathy.

BACKGROUND Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the endometrium is an uncommon and highly aggressive tumor that has not been comprehensively characterized. We report a case of pure endometrial LCNEC and review the current literature of similar cases to raise awareness of the histological features, treatment, and prognosis of this tumor. CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 73-year-old woman who presented with irregular postmenopausal vaginal bleeding. Ultrasonography showed an enlarged uterus and a 5.1 cm × 3.3 cm area of medium and low echogenicity in the uterine cavity. Biopsy by dilatation and curettage suggested poorly differentiated carcinoma. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a heterogeneously enhanced uterine tumor with diffuse infiltration of the posterior wall of the uterine myometrium and enlarged pelvic lymph nodes. The patient underwent a hysterectomy and bilateral adnexal resection. Gross observation revealed an ill-defined white solid mass of the posterior wall of the uterus infiltrating into the serosa with multiple solid nodules on the serous surface. Microscopically, the tumor cells showed neuroendocrine morphology (organoid nesting). Immunohistochemistry revealed the tumor cells were diffusely positive for the neuroendocrine markers CD56, chromogranin A, and synaptophysin. Thus, the tumor was diagnosed as stage IIIC endometrial LCNEC. CONCLUSION Pathologic findings and immunohistochemistry are essential in making a diagnosis of endometrial LCNEC.

Purpose To investigate the dilated choroidal veins (DCVs) at or around myopic macular neovascularizations (MNVs) and to determine whether there is a hemodynamic relationship between them. Methods Fifty-eight eyes of 57 patients with myopic MNVs were examined. Dilated choroidal veins were defined as choroidal veins whose diameter was 2X larger than adjacent veins. Indocyanine green angiography and swept-source optical coherence tomography images were reviewed to detect DCVs that crossed the subfoveal area. The filling sequence of the DCVs and MNVs was determined. Results Patients' mean age was 71.4 ± 10.6 years. The mean axial length was 29.3 ± 1.8 mm. Dilated choroidal veins below or around the MNV were found in 17 eyes (29.3%). Emissaries of the short posterior ciliary arteries were seen at or around MNVs in 8 of the 17 eyes. In these eyes, the short posterior ciliary artery was filled first or almost simultaneously with the filling of the MNV, followed by a laminar filling of the DCVs. In one eye, afferent arterioles from the short posterior ciliary arteries and efferent venules connected to DCVs were seen. Conclusion Dilated choroidal veins are present below or around MNVs in about 30% of eyes with myopic MNVs. Our findings suggest that an MNV might be a vascular unit consisting of short posterior ciliary arteries, afferent arterioles, efferent venules, and DCVs.

Summary Armed with merits of the metals (e.g., electrical conductivity, catalytic activity, and plasmonic properties) and aerogels (e.g., monolithic structure, porous network, and large specific surface area), metal aerogels (MAs) have stood out as a new class of porous materials in the last decade. With unparalleled potential in electrocatalysis, plasmonics, and sensing, they are envisaged to revolutionize the energy- and detection-related application fields. However, MA development is severely retarded by the lack of a sufficient material basis. Suffering from the ambiguous understanding of formation mechanisms, big challenges remain for tailoring MAs for task-specific applications. By surveying state-of-the-art developments, this review strives to summarize design principles and arouse interest in broad scientific communities. Moreover, critical challenges and opportunities are highlighted to provide a research roadmap for this young yet promising field.

Purpose To determine the prevalence and characteristics of abruptly emerging vessels (AEVs) within patchy atrophy (PA) in myopic eyes. Methods We studied 160 highly myopic eyes of 144 patients between March and November in 2016. Fundus photographs and swept-source optical coherence tomography images were analyzed. Results Patient mean age was 67.1 ± 10.5 years. Mean axial length was 30.9 ± 2.0 mm. The mean size of the 264 PAs was 5.6 ± 8.3 mm. Abruptly emerging vessels were detected in 69 (43.1%) eyes and were located within or near PA edge in fundus photographs. Swept-source optical coherence tomography showed that the AEVs were continuous with perforating scleral vessels and were observed on the inner surface of the sclera at the site where they appeared in fundus photographs. A slight bowing of sclera around the AEVs was observed in 41 (59%) eyes. Patchy atrophy with AEVs was significantly larger (10.7 ± 11.3 mm) than PA without AEVs (3.4 ± 5.1 mm). Conclusion Abruptly emerging vessels are commonly found in eyes with myopic PA. The sclera surrounding the AEVs is slightly bowed. Further studies are needed to determine whether the penetrating site of AEVs is structurally more fragile and leads to Bruch membrane defects or AEVs are secondarily involved during PA progression.

Purpose To assess and compare clinical features of a ridge-shaped macula (defined as macular elevation only in one meridian across the fovea) in individuals younger than 20 years with those of a dome-shaped macula (DSM) in patients aged 20+ years. Methods The retrospective observational case series study included 185 highly myopic eyes of 100 consecutive patients younger than 20 years, who were compared with highly myopic patients with DSMs, aged 20+ years and examined in previous studies. Results Seventeen (9.2%) eyes of the highly myopic young patients showed macular elevations all of which ran only in the horizontal direction across the vertical optical coherence tomographic section fulfilled the definition of a ridge and did not show any staphylomas or any macular Bruch membrane defects. By contrast, in the older patients with DSMs, the DSMs were significantly higher and had a narrower base than the ridges in the young patients, and showed macular Bruch membrane defects in their vicinity, with the axial length being significantly longer, the myopic maculopathy more severe, and the subfoveal choroid thinner. Conclusion Macular elevations detected in children and adolescents are usually ridge-shaped maculas and do not have the characteristics of DSMs. In comparison with DSMs, ridge-shaped maculas do not show a spatial association with macular Bruch membrane defects or posterior staphylomas and have a wider basis and smoother elevation slope. As a hypothesis, ridge-shaped maculas may be due to a folding of Bruch membrane at the posterior pole, potentially caused by an asymmetrical enlargement of Bruch membrane in the equatorial region.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with morphologic abnormalities of airways with various patterns and severities. However, the way of effectively representing these abnormalities is lacking and whether these abnormalities enable to distinguish COPD from healthy controls is unknown. We propose to use deep convolutional neural network (CNN) to assess 3D lung airway tree from the perspective of computer vision, thereby constructing models of identifying COPD. After extracting airway trees from CT images, snapshots of their 3D visualizations are obtained from ventral, dorsal and isometric views. Using snapshots of each view, one deep CNN model is constructed and further optimized by Bayesian optimization algorithm to indentify COPD. The majority voting of three views presents the final prediction. Finally, the class-discriminative localization maps have been drawn to visually explain the CNNs' decisions. The models trained with single view (ventral, dorsal and isometric) of colorful snapshots present the similar accuracy (ACC) (86.8%, 87.5% and 86.7%) and the model after voting achieves the ACC of 88.2%. The ACC of the final voting model using gray and binary snapshots achieves 88.6% and 86.4%, respectively. Our specially designed CNNs outperform the typical off-the-shelf CNNs and the pre-trained CNNs with fine tuning. The class-discriminative regions of COPD are mainly located at central airways; however, regions in HC are scattering and located at peripheral airways. It is feasible to identify COPD using snapshots of 3D lung airway tree extracted from CT images via deep CNN. The CNNs can represent the abnormalities of airway tree in COPD and make accurate CT-based diagnosis of COPD.

Acquirement of aligned semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube (s-SWNT) arrays is one of the most promising directions to break Moore's Law, thus developing the next-generation electronic devices. Despite that widespread approaches have been developed, it is still a great challenge to facilely prepare s-SWNT arrays with tunable electronic properties. Herein, a different perspective is proposed to produce s-SWNT arrays by implementing reversible methylation reactions on the as-grown aligned SWNT arrays. In this way, the metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes (m-SWNTs) are selectively and reversibly methylated to acquire semiconducting properties, to afford tunable electronic properties of the as-obtained SWNT arrays in a highly controllable and simple manner. Electrical measurements suggest a high fraction of s-SWNTs is attained (97.5%) after methylation, facilitating its exceptional performance as a field-effect transistor (FET) with an on-off ratio of up to 17543. This method may provide a new way for the preparation of s-SWNT arrays with tunable electronic properties and impressive prospects toward the fabrication of high-performance FETs.

A single-pixel neural network object classification scenario in the sub-Nyquist ghost imaging system is proposed. Based on the neural network, objects are classified directly by bucket measurements without reconstructing images. Classification accuracy can still be maintained at 94.23% even with only 16 measurements (less than the Nyquist limit of 1.56%). A parallel computing scheme is applied in data processing to reduce the object acquisition time significantly. Random patterns are used as illumination patterns to illuminate objects. The proposed method performs much better than existing methods for both binary and grayscale images in the sub-Nyquist condition, which is also robust to environment noise turbulence. Benefiting from advantages of ghost imaging, it may find applications for target recognition in the fields of remote sensing, military defense, and so on.

Importance Pathologic myopia due to an excessive increase of axial length is associated with severe visual impairments. Systematic analyses to determine the rate of and the risk factors associated with the axial elongation in adults with high myopia based on long-term follow-up of a large population are needed. Objective To determine the risk factors associated with axial elongation in adults with high myopia. Design, setting, and participants This cohort study used the medical records of 43 201 patient visits in a single-hospital database that were collected from January 3, 2011, to December 28, 2018. A total of 15 745 medical records with the patients' sex, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), axial length, type of myopic maculopathy, and the presence or absence of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) were reviewed. Data were analyzed from April 3, 2019, to August 5, 2020. Main outcomes and measures Changes in the axial length at each examination were calculated. The significance of the associations between the annual increase of the axial length and age, sex, baseline axial length, types of myopic maculopathy, and a history of CNV was determined. Generalized linear mixed models were used to evaluate the strength of the risk factors associated with an increase of the axial length in high myopia. Results Among 1877 patients with 9161 visits included in the analysis, the mean (SD) age was 62.10 (12.92) years, and 1357 (72.30%) were women. The mean (SD) axial length was 29.66 (2.20) mm with a mean (SD) growth rate of 0.05 (0.24) mm/y. Among the 9161 visits, 7096 eyes (77.46%) had myopic maculopathy and 2477 eyes (27.04%) had CNV. The odds ratio for inducing a severe elongation of the axial length was 1.46 (95% CI, 1.38-1.55) for female sex, 0.44 (95% CI, 0.35-0.56) to 0.63 (95% CI, 13 0.50-0.78) for older than 40 years, 1.33 (95% CI, 1.15-1.54) for BCVA of less than 20/400, 1.67 (95% CI, 1.54-1.81) to 2.67 (95% CI, 2.46-2.88) for baseline axial length of 28.15 mm or greater, 1.06 (95% CI, 0.96-1.17) to 1.39 (95% CI, 1.24-1.55) for the presence of maculopathy, and 1.37 (95% CI, 1.29-1.47) for prior CNV. Conclusions and relevance This cohort study found continuing axial elongation in adults with high myopia. The risk factors for elongation do not appear to be modifiable, so prevention of myopia may be the best approach to reduce the incidence of pathologic myopia and its complications in the future.

With the rapid development of optoelectronic fibers of multi-materials and structures, coupling between the optoelectronic fibers and the conventional optical fibers with high transmission is desirable. In this article, we propose a mode coupler to facilitate the transmission of electromagnetic wave from a dielectric fiber to a simple metal-core optoelectronic fiber in the terahertz regime. The coupler mainly consists of an air cone along its symmetric axis. The transmission characteristics of the terahertz wave of the frequency ranging from 2 to 8 THz for five hybrid modes are investigated using finite difference time domain method. We show the dependence of the transmission on the height of the air cone for the selected frequencies.

The malignant proliferation is one of the major characteristic for tumor cells, however the mechanism of lung cancer cells uncontrollable proliferation is still confusing. This study investigated the mechanism of up-regulated FOXA1 in lung cancer and its tumorigenic function in lung cancer. FOXA1 showed an increasing expression pattern with the pathological progression in lung cancer, and SOX9 expression pattern is positively correlated with FOXA1. Furthermore, combined up-regulated FOXA1 and SOX9 usually resulted in a poor survival prognosis of patients with lung cancer. In addition, SOX9 was identified as a transcription factor of FOXA1 in lung cancer and involved in affecting the expression of FOXA1 targeted genes-Bcl2, CDKN1B, RPRM and NKX2. What's more, SOX9 can rescue the declining tumorigenic ability of lung cancer cells caused by FOXA1 silenced. This study indicates that SOX9 dependent FOXA1 expression promotes tumorigenic ability of lung cancer cells.

To analyze the choroidal thickness (CT) of each type of myopic maculopathy, and to establish an OCT-based classification of myopic maculopathy.Retrospective, hospital-based, cross-sectional study.Highly myopic (HM) eyes that were examined by swept-source OCT.The CT was measured at the subfovea and at 3 mm nasal, temporal, superior, and inferior to the fovea. Myopic maculopathy was classified as tessellation, diffuse atrophy, patchy atrophy, and macular atrophy (MA) based on the fundus photographs. Diffuse atrophy was subdivided into peripapillary diffuse choroidal atrophy (PDCA) or macular diffuse choroidal atrophy (MDCA).The CT of each type of myopic maculopathy and cut-off value for diagnosis of diffuse atrophy.We studied 1487 eyes of 884 patients (mean age: 58 years; mean axial length [AxL]: 29.9 mm). Subfoveal CT decreased with an increase in the severity of the myopic maculopathy. The mean subfoveal CT in HM eyes with normal fundus was 274.5 μm, with tessellation was 129.1 μm, with PDCA was 84.6 μm, with MDCA was 50.2 μm, with patchy atrophy was 48.6 μm, with choroidal neovascularization-related MA was 27.3 μm, and with patchy atrophy-related MA was 3.5 μm. Using receiver operating characteristic curves, the optimal CT to predict the presence of PDCA was 56.5 μm nasally, and the CT to predict the presence of MDCA was 62 μm subfoveally. The subfoveal CT was not significantly different in eyes with MDCA and patchy atrophy. A decrease of the subfoveal CT was associated with an older age (P0.001), longer AxL (P0.001), presence of myopic maculopathy (P0.001), and presence of CNV (P = 0.002). A decrease of best-corrected visual acuity was not significantly associated with the subfoveal CT.Progressive and continuous choroidal thinning plays a key role in the progression from no maculopathy to tessellation and to diffuse atrophy. The cut-off value of CT can be used for diagnosing PDCA and MDCA. For progression from MDCA to patchy atrophy, factors other than further choroidal thinning such as Bruch membrane defect may be involved. The subfoveal CT was not a predictor of visual acuity in HM eyes without CNV.

Objective— Diabetes mellitus is associated with high-risk atherosclerotic plaques. This study aimed to compare characteristics of carotid atherosclerotic plaques in symptomatic Chinese diabetic and nondiabetic patients using vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging. Approach and Results— Patients with cerebral ischemic symptoms in the anterior circulation and carotid atherosclerotic plaque determined by ultrasound were recruited from a cross-sectional, observational, multicenter study of CARE-II (Chinese Atherosclerosis Risk Evaluation). All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging for carotid arteries. The morphological and compositional characteristics of carotid plaques were compared between diabetic and nondiabetic patients using linear (continuous variables) and logistic regression (binary variables). In a total of 584 recruited patients, 182 (31.2%) had diabetes mellitus. From the univariate analysis, diabetic patients had significantly greater mean wall area (33.7 versus 31.1 mm 2 ; P =0.002), maximum wall thickness (3.2 versus 2.8 mm; P P P =0.001), lipid-rich necrotic core (77.5% versus 58.5%; P P =0.011) than nondiabetic patients. After adjusting for clinical characteristics, the differences in presence of calcification ( P =0.018) and lipid-rich necrotic core ( P =0.001) remained statistically significant. Conclusions— Symptomatic Chinese diabetic patients are more likely to have carotid plaques with calcification and lipid-rich necrotic core than nondiabetic patients, suggesting that diabetic patients may develop more severe atherosclerotic disease that should be accounted for in their clinical management.

To investigate association of Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene promoter methylation with atherosclerotic cerebral infarction (ACI) in the Han Chinese population.Twenty-six ACI patients (the case group) and 26 healthy (the control group) were recruited randomly from Henan Han nationality population, from April 2016 to August 2016. Bisulfite pyrosequencing technology was used to examine the role of the aberrant gene promoter methylation in ACI in Han Chinese population. Especially, we used the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) method to elevate the correlation between ApoE Promoter Methylation and ACI.The case group was significantly more likely to have hypertension and carotid atherosclerotic plaques (Table 1). The case group had significantly lower levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), folate, and higher levels of homocysteine (Table 2). We observed that ACI patients (n = 26) had significantly higher methylation levels at cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) 14 and CpG16 compared with controls (n = 26) (Table 3). Importantly, our results indicated a significant association between ApoE promoter methylation and ACI (OR = 16.146; 95% CI, 1.154-225.832; P*.05; P*: adjusted for age, gender, carotid atherosclerotic plaque, hypertension, HDL-C, homocysteine, and folate) (Table 4).Our study indicates that ApoE promoter methylation may be associated with ACI in Han Chinese people.

Background The infarct volume is associated with the clinical outcome after ischemic stroke. We investigated the factors associated with infarct growth and its effect on functional outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods The present retrospective study included 158 patients with acute ischemic stroke receiving endovascular treatment at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center from 2011 to 2016. The patients' clinical parameters were collected. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed before treatment and 24 hours after endovascular treatment to calculate the infarct volume. The infarct sizes were measured using apparent diffusion coefficient maps. The modified Rankin scale (mRS) scores at discharge and 90 days after discharge were used to evaluate the functional outcomes. An mRS score of 0–2 was defined as a good outcome. The predictors of infarct growth and mRS score at 90 days were analyzed using regression analysis. Results Patients with smaller infarct growth had significantly better clinical outcomes as measured by the mRS score at discharge and at 90 days and mortality at 90 days (P Conclusions Infarct growth was associated with the functional outcome. Smaller infarct growth correlated with better outcomes. A greater Alberta Stroke Program Early CT score and better perfusion predicted for smaller infarct growth.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of a new method of combined ultrasound elastography (UE) and thyroid imaging-reporting and data system (TI-RADS) in the differential diagnosis of small thyroid nodules. Methods: Ultrasonography(US), TI-RADS, Elasticity Imaging (EI), Virtual Touch Tissue Imaging (VTI) and Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification (VTQ) features of 142 thyroid nodules (maximum diameter ≤10 mm according to conventional ultrasound measurement) confirmed by surgery or FNA were retrospectively analyzed. Different elastographic methods in small benign and malignant thyroid nodules were compared. The diagnostic efficiency of three adjustment methods of conventional ultrasound TI-RADS classification and ultrasound elastography (VTI and/or VTQ) were compared. Results: The pathological examination showed that 70 thyroid nodules were benign and 72 were malignant. The differential ability of UE to diagnose the small benign and malignant thyroid nodules alone is not better than that of conventional ultrasound TI-RADS classification. The sensitivity of conventional ultrasound TI-RADS classification were higher than that of VTI and equal to VTQ(91.67% vs83.33%、91.67%), while the specificity of VTI was much higher than that of TI-RADS and VTQ(91.43% vs 75.71%、60.00%). The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of TI-RADS classification plus UE (VTI + VTQ) were 94.44% and 87.14% respectively. TI-RADS classification combined with UE (VTI + VTQ) was the highest diagnostic efficiency. Conclusion: Conventional ultrasound TI-RADS classification is the basis for the diagnosis of small thyroid nodules. The combination of TI-RADS with VTI and VTQ can significantly improve the differential diagnosis of small benign and malignant thyroid nodules. It may provide a new and reliable method for the clinical diagnosis of small thyroid nodules.

Background: Reticulon 3 (RTN3) is an endoplasmic reticulum protein that has previously been shown to play a role in neurodegenerative diseases, but little is known about its role in lipid metabolism. Methods: Obese patients (n=149), hypertriglyceridemic patients (n=343), and healthy control subjects (n=84) were enrolled to assess their levels of RTN3. To explore the pathophysiological roles of RTN3 in the control of lipid metabolism, we used transgenic mice overexpressing the wild-type human RTN3 gene, the RTN3-null transgenic mouse model, and multiple Caenorhabditis legans strains for molecular characterization. The underlying mechanisms were studied with 3T3L1 cell cultures in vitro. Results: We report that overexpressed RTN3 in mice induces obesity and higher accumulation of triglycerides. Increased RTN3 expression is also found in patients with obesity and hypertriglyceridemia. We reveal that RTN3 plays critical roles in regulating the biosynthesis and storage of triglycerides and in controlling lipid droplet expansion. Mechanistically, RTN3 regulates these events through its interactions with heat shock protein family A (Hsp70) member 5, and this enhanced interaction increases sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c and AMP-activated kinase activity. Conclusions: This study provides evidence for a role of RTN3 in inducing obesity and triglyceride accumulation and suggests that inhibiting the expression of RTN3 in fat tissue may be a novel therapeutic approach to treat obesity and hypertriglyceridemia.

AimTo determine whether there is a correlation between the presence of macular dilated choroidal vein (DCV) and the recurrence of myopic macular neovascularisation (MNV) after antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment.MethodsMedical records of 168 eyes of 163 patients with myopic MNV were reviewed for the presence of macular DCV and episodes of recurrences. A macular DCV was defined as a choroidal vein whose diameter was 2× larger than the adjacent veins coursing in the macular area of 5.5 mm diameter.ResultsMacular DCV existed in 47 (28%) of the eyes with myopic MNV. 70 eyes (41.7%) had recurrence during a mean follow-up period of 52.5±23.0 months. Recurrence was found in 28 of the 47 eyes (59.6%) with DCV, which was significantly more frequent than the 42 of the 121 eyes (34.7%) without DCV (p=0.003). Cox model analysis showed that macular DCV was an independent risk factor (HR: 2.0, 95% CI 1.1 to 3.5) for recurrence. The recurrence rate was significantly higher in eyes with DCV within the first 2 years after the onset than in eyes without DCV.ConclusionsMacular DCVs may be indicators of a more aggressive phenotype of eyes with myopic MNV. These eyes need careful monitoring after anti-VEGF therapies.

A consortium (HPP) with improved ability in biomass conversion was achieved by adjusting the proportion of Pseudoxanthomonas taiwanensis in a natural consortium (HP), but the mechanism behind was unknown. Herein, the diversities of microbial community structure and gene functions of the consortia were analyzed first, and found that HPP had a more balanced microbial structure with enriched gene pathways related to cellular processes, environmental information processing and metabolism. Then, key genes responsible for biomass conversion were further analyzed, finding that their abundance and distribution contributed to HPP’s efficient biomass conversion. Finally, consolidated bioprocessing of agricultural wastes by HPP was carried out to verify its enhanced ability, and ethanol with the highest yield that was ever reported was achieved at 0.28 g/g. This is the first study which reported the underlying mechanisms for synergistic effects of microbial consortia, and will guide the artificial construction of complex microbial consortium for specific purpose.

Atrioventricular block (AVB) is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death, and most of AVB cases are presented as autosomal dominant. The electrocardiogram of AVB patients presents an abnormal progressive cardiac conduction disorder between atria and ventricles. Transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (TRPM4) is a nonselective Ca2+-activated cation channel gene defined as a novel disease-causing gene of AVB. So far, 47 mutations of TRPM4 have been recorded in Human Gene Mutation Database. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between TRPM4 mutation and pathogenesis of AVB. We investigated a Chinese family with AVB by whole-exome sequencing. An arrhythmia-related gene filtering strategy was used to analyze the disease-causing mutations. Three different bioinformatics programs were used to predict the effects of the mutation result. A novel mutation of TRPM4 was identified (c.2455C>T/p.R819C) and cosegregated in the affected family members. The three bioinformatics programs predicted that the novel mutation may lead to damage. Our study will contribute to expand the spectrum of TRPM4 mutations and supply accurate genetic testing information for further research and the clinical therapy of AVB.

Novel paravascular lesions with abnormal autofluorescence (AF) were found in eyes with pathologic myopia. Most lesions were uniform hypo-AF, followed by hyper-AF, and granular hypo-AF. Optical coherence tomography showed retinal thinning with or without defects of the retinal pigment epithelium. Pathologic myopia (PM) is characterized by an increase in the axial length of the eye and formation of posterior staphylomas. Much attention has been paid to the macular lesions in the clinical management of patients with PM. However, recent studies have shown that wider areas of the fundus can be affected such as radial tracts that emanate from the upper staphyloma edges and peripheral avascular zones. These findings suggested that PM may not simply be a macular disorder but a disorder with various pathologies in wide areas of the fundus including the far periphery.

Removing the apocrine sweat glands with nasal endoscope assisted suction cutter is a new technique that we have explored for the treatment of axillary odors. The aim is to introduce this new technique, compare it with traditional treatment and study the efficacy and patients satisfaction it brought about.A total of 82 patients (164 sides) with axillary odor were treated, 49 patients (98 sides) were treated with subcutaneou endoscopic assisted suction cutter, and 33 patients (66 sides) were treated with small-cut trimming. The efficacy of postoperative recovery was evaluated according to Tung grading method, and postoperative complications and satisfaction rate were also included in the comparative evaluation.The combined efficiency of nasal endoscope assisted suction cutter [100% (98/98)] was significantly higher than that of small-cut trimming [89.39% (59/66)]Remove the apocrine sweat glands with nasal endoscope assisted suction cutter, as a new feasible technology, is more effective than small-cut trimming method in the treatment of axillary odor.

Arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is one of the major causes of death worldwide and most commonly develops as a result of atherosclerosis (AS). As we all know, dyslipidemia is a leading pathogenic risk factor for ASCVD, which leads to cardiac ischemic injury and myocardial infarction. Dyslipidemias include hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) and decreased high density lipoproteins cholesterol (HDL-c). Mutations of dyslipidemia related genes have been proved to be the crucial contributor to the development of AS and ASCVD. In this study, a Han-Chinese family with ASCVD was enrolled and the lipid testing discovered an obvious reduced levels of HDL-c in the affected members. We then performed whole exome sequencing to detect the candidate genes of the family. After data filtering, a novel heterozygous nonsense mutation (NM_007168: c.3460C>T; p.R1154X) of ABCA8 was detected and validated to be co-separated in the family members by Sanger sequencing. Previous studies have proved that deleterious heterozygous ABCA8 variants may disrupt cholesterol efflux and reduce HDL-c levels in humans and mice. This study may be the second report related to ABCA8 mutations in patients with reduced levels of HDL-c. Our study not only contributed to the genetic counseling and prenatal genetic diagnosis of patients with ASCVD caused by reduced HDL-c levels, but also provided a new sight among ABCA8, cholesterol efflux and HDL-c levels.

The propagation of terahertz waves in a dust acoustic wave is investigated numerically. By assuming a sinus profile of the dust number density in the dust acoustic waves, the transmission properties are calculated using finite difference time domain method. It shows that the dust acoustic wave can function similarly as a Bragg filter to block the terahertz waves of a certain wavelength. The bandwidth of the filter depends on the density profile of the dust acoustic wave.

Loss of function of arginine vasopressin receptor 2 (AVPR2) may affect the recognition and binding of arginine vasopressin (AVP) which, in turn, may prevent the activation of Gs/adenylate cyclase and reduce the reabsorption of water by renal tubules and combined tubes. Finally, the organism may suffer from nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI), a kind of kidney disorder featured by polyuria and polydipsia, due to a break of water homeostasis. In this study, we enrolled a Chinese family with polyuria and polydipsia. The proband presented abnormal fluid intake and excessive urine output. A water deprivation and AVP stimulation test further indicated that this patient had NDI. By sequencing known causative genes for diabetes insipidus, we identified a novel mutation in AVPR2 (c.547G>A; p.V183M) in the family. This mutation, located in a conserved site of AVPR2 and predicted to be disease-causing by informatics programs, was absent in our 200 controls and other public databases. Our study not only further confirms the clinical diagnosis, but also expands the spectrum of AVPR2 mutations and contributes to genetic diagnosis and counseling of patients with NDI.

Patchy choroidal atrophy is observed as a grayish-white and sharply margined atrophy in the posterior fundus. The shape of patchy atrophy is longitudinally oval, or round, or irregular when multiple lesions merge. Patchy atrophy can derive from lacquer cracks or diffuse atrophy. It rarely affects the central fovea. Fundus autofluorescence shows uniform hypo-autofluorescence in the area of patchy atrophy. OCT images show a loss of retinal pigment epithelium, with or without a Bruch’s membrane defect.

PURPOSE To determine the incidence and long-term outcome of macular atrophy (MA) after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in pathologic myopia. METHODS Highly myopic patients who underwent PPV for myopic traction maculopathy and macular hole retinal detachment at Tokyo Medical and Dental University between 2012 and 2016 were studied. Fundus photographs and/or optical coherence tomography were examined before and after PPV at every visit. RESULTS A total of 133 eyes were followed for 39 months with the mean age of 62.8 years and the mean axial length of 30.0 mm. Postoperatively, 14 eyes (10.5%) developed fovea-centered MA, observed initially as a small, isolated, whitish lesion at the center of fovea at 3.5 months after PPV. The appearance of the MA was distinctly different from the choroidal neovascularization-related MA or patchy atrophy-related MA. With time, the lesions enlarged circumferentially. In these 14 eyes, the final best-corrected visual acuity was worse than the baseline, although the difference was not significant. The occurrence of MA was significantly associated with the preoperative foveal status. CONCLUSION The development of MA can occur in 11% of highly myopic eyes after PPV for myopic traction maculopathy and macular hole retinal detachment. This postoperative MA might be a new complication of pathologic myopia.

Slow dynamics in an amorphous quasi-two-dimensional complex plasma, comprised of microparticles of two different sizes, was studied experimentally. The motion of individual particles was observed using video microscopy, and the self-part of the intermediate scattering function as well as the mean-squared particle displacement was calculated. The long-time structural relaxation reveals the characteristic behavior near the glass transition. Our results suggest that binary complex plasmas can be an excellent model system to study slow dynamics in classical supercooled fluids.

Complex plasmas are low temperature plasmas that contain microparticles in addition to ions, electrons, and neutral particles. The microparticles acquire high charges, interact with each other and can be considered as model particles for effects in classical condensed matter systems, such as crystallization and fluid dynamics. In contrast to atoms in ordinary systems, their movement can be traced on the most basic level, that of individual particles. In order to avoid disturbances caused by gravity, experiments on complex plasmas are often performed under microgravity conditions. The PK-3 Plus Laboratory was operated on board the International Space Station from 2006 - 2013. Its heart consisted of a capacitively coupled radio-frequency plasma chamber. Microparticles were inserted into the low-temperature plasma, forming large, homogeneous complex plasma clouds. Here, we review the results obtained with recent analyses of PK-3 Plus data: We study the formation of crystallization fronts, as well as the microparticle motion in, and structure of crystalline complex plasmas. We investigate fluid effects such as wave transmission across an interface, and the development of the energy spectra during the onset of turbulent microparticle movement. We explore how abnormal particles move through, and how macroscopic spheres interact with the microparticle cloud. These examples demonstrate the versatility of the PK-3 Plus Laboratory.

Purpose To reveal clinical features of patchy atrophy in pathologic myopia and investigate the status of the Bruch membrane and retinal pigment epithelium by swept-source optical coherence tomography. Methods This study reviewed highly myopic patients who visited the high myopia clinic between January 2015 and February 2018. Wide-field photographs and wide-field fundus autofluorescence fundus images were used as the primary method for identifying PAs, and swept-source optical coherence tomography images were used for investigating the retinochoroid status of PAs. Results Four hundred fifty-six PAs were detected in 137 eyes (118 patients). Patchy atrophys were located most often in the macular area (28.3%), followed by the inferior (25.9%), temporal (18.9%), nasal (14.5%), and superior (12.5%) region. All 210, PAs which had been fully or partially scanned by swept-source optical coherence tomography, showed a retinal pigment epithelium defect, and 174 (82.9%) PAs showed a Bruch membrane defect on the available scans. In 101 (82.8%) of 122 PAs with clearly detectable borders of the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch membrane defect, the Bruch membrane defects were smaller than the retinal pigment epithelium defects. A dome-shape inward bulging of the sclera was observed in 10 PAs. Conclusion These morphological findings may provide a basis for exploring the biomechanical etiology of the PAs as part of the development of pathologic myopia.

A binary complex plasma consists of two different types of dust particles in an ionized gas. Due to the spinodal decomposition and force imbalance, particles of different masses and diameters are typically phase separated, resulting in an interface. Both external excitation and internal instability may cause the interface to move with time. Support vector machine (SVM) is a supervised machine learning method that can be very effective for multi-class classification. We applied an SVM classification method based on image brightness to locate the interface in a binary complex plasma. Taking the scaled mean and variance as features, three areas, namely small particles, big particles and plasma without dust particles, were distinguished, leading to the identification of the interface between small and big particles.

We investigated the clinical characteristics of cilioretinal arteries (CAs) and cilioretinal veins (CVs) in eyes with pathologic myopia. Ninety-five eyes with pathologic myopia and CAs were studied. The retrobulbar vessels from which the CAs originated were identified by indocyanine green angiography (ICGA). The results showed that 114 CAs were identified in the 95 eyes. ICGA showed that 60% of the CAs branched directly off the short posterior ciliary arteries (SPCAs) and 40% originated from the Zinn-Haller arterial circle (ZHAC). The SPCA-derived CAs tended to be located superiorly and served a large retinal area whereas the ZHAC-associated CAs tended to be located temporally and served mainly the macular area. In 15% of the 95 eyes, the CVs were observed to run parallel to the CAs. The CVs exited the eye at the same point where the CAs entered the eye. This study showed that CAs in eyes with pathologic myopia can be divided into those that are SPCA-derived and tend to emerge in the superior optic disc sector, and those that are ZHAC-associated and usually emerge temporally. An elongating peripapillary scleral flange in eyes with progressive axial myopia may lead to a change of chorioretinal vascular system.

At IHEP (Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), computing resources are contributed by different experiments including BES, JUNO, DYW, HXMT, etc. The resources were divided into different partitions to satisfy the dedicated experiment data processing requirements. IHEP had a local Torqu&Maui cluster with 50 queues serving for above 10 experiments. The separated resource partitions leaded to imbalance resource load. In a typical situation, BES resource partition was quite busy without free slot but still with lots of jobs in idle, while JUNO resources are free and wasted seriously. After moving resources from Torque&Maui to HTCondor in 2016, job scheduling efficiency has been improved a lot. In order to balance the imbalance resource load, we designed an efficient sharing strategy to improve the overall resourceutilization. We created an unified pool shared by all experiments. For each experiment, resources are divided into two parts: dedicated resource and sharing resource. The slots in dedicated resource only run jobs from its own experiment, and the slots in sharing resource are shared by jobs from all experiments. Default ratio of dedicated resource to sharing resource is 1:4. To maximize the sharing effectiveness, the ratio is dynamically adjusted between 0:5 and 4:1 based on the number of jobs submitted by each experiment. We have developed a central control system to decide how many resources can be allocated to each experiment group. This system is implemented at two sides: server side and client side. A management database is built at server side, which is storing resource, group and experiment information. Once the sharing ratio needs to be adjusted, resource group will be changed and updated into database. The resource group information is published to the server buffer in real-time. The client periodically pulls resource group information from server buffer via https protocol And resource scheduling configuration at client side is changed based on the resource group information. With this method, share ratio can be modified and deployed dynamically. Sharing strategy is implemented with HTCondor. ClassAd mechanism and accounting-group in HTCondor facilitate to utilizethe sharing strategy at IHEP computing cluster. With the sharing strategy, resource usage has been improved dramatically.

PURPOSE To report on a progressing ridge-shaped macula parallel to Bruch membrane defects and a macular suprachoroidal cavitation. METHOD Single case report. RESULT The right eye of a 54-year-old man with an axial length of 30.96 mm showed 2 extrafoveal Bruch membrane defects with a partial herniation of the retina into the choroidal space and an ophthalmoscopically yellowish area inferior to one of the Bruch membrane defects. Optical coherence tomography revealed a horizontal transfoveal ridge of the sclera, Bruch membrane, and macula and a deepening of the suprachoroidal space, corresponding to the ophthalmoscopically detectable yellowish area and fulfilling the criteria of a macular suprachoroidal cavitation. After a follow-up of 10 years, the height of the ridge increased parallel to a further deepening of the macular suprachoroidal cavitation and an increase in axial length by 0.67 mm. CONCLUSION The findings support the notion of a progression of a ridge-shaped macula parallel to a further deepening of a macular suprachoroidal cavitation in an axially elongating eye.

A new cooperation of the enterprises and college model is presented in this paper. The new cooperation model not only avoids the dependent on the government severely, but also stimulates the passion of the enterprises in the cooperation between enterprises and college. The best features about the new cooperation model are leaded by the social need and employment of the multi-agents instead of the only college. The application results show that the educational quality has advanced obviously through the CNM cooperation between the enterprises and college based on social need.

BACKGROUND Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. The purpose of the study was to observe the features of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and the combination with Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) of conventional ultrasound for assessing small breast lesions. OBJECTIVES The study was to explore the small breast lesions' features of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and the combination with Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) of conventional ultrasound, in order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of early breast cancer. METHODS 105 lesions were subject to conventional US (ultrasound) and CEUS before operations or biopsies. Among 105 breast lesions, six patient diagnoses were established by thick core-needle biopsy, while the rest were all confirmed by surgery and pathology. Purpose. To determine the effect of osthole on the retina in a chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) rat model and to investigate its therapeutic activity. Methods. Seventy-two rats were randomly allocated into 6 groups. CCH was induced by permanent bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) in five groups. Sham surgery was performed without occlusion of the artery in the sixth group (control group). Animals were administered with saline (model group), osthole (osthole-IG group), aspirin (aspirin group), or ginaton (ginaton group); the osthole-PI group was performed with peribulbar injection of osthole. Four rats in each group were sacrificed every 5 days after drug administration, and histopathology along with morphology of retina were observed. Fundus fluorescein angiography was performed before the animals were sacrificed at day 15. Retinal Akt, NF-κB, Bax, and Bcl-2 levels were assessed using immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and reverse-transcription PCR; retinal injury was assessed using TUNEL in situ; retinal levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured. Results. Fundus fluorescein angiography revealed the retinal vascular diameter in the osthole-IG group rats to be wider than that in the model, osthole-PI, aspirin, or ginaton group rats. Histological analysis of retinal tissue revealed an increase in retinal thickness in all treatment groups, and significant improvement was noticed in the osthole-IG group. TUNEL staining revealed fewer apoptotic cells in the osthole-IG and osthole-PI groups than in the other groups. For immunohistochemistry results, in the osthole-IG group, levels of NF-κB and Akt were lower than those in the other treated groups, while levels of the ratio Bcl-2/Bax were higher. Levels of MDA were lower and levels of SOD were higher in the osthole-IG group than in the other groups. Conclusions. Osthole protects the retina from ischemia injury secondary to CCH induced by BCCAO, mainly through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic effects.

Background The molecular pattern of severe burn-induced acute lung injury, characterized by cell structure damage and leukocyte infiltration, remains unknown. This study aimed to determine whether calpain, a protease involved in both processes, mediates severe burn-induced acute lung injury. Methods Rats received full-thickness scald burns covering 30% of the total body surface area, followed by instant fluid resuscitation. MDL28170 (Tocris Bioscience), an inhibitor of calpain, was given intravenously 1 h before or after the scald burn. The histological score, wet/dry weight ratio, and caspase-3 activity were examined to evaluate the degree of lung damage. Calpain activity and its source were detected by an assay kit and immunofluorescence staining. The proteolysis of membrane skeleton proteins α-fodrin and ankyrin-B, which are substrates of calpain, was measured by Western blot. Results Time-course studies showed that tissue damage reached a peak between 1 and 6 h post-scald burn and gradually diminished at 24 h. More importantly, calpain activity reached peak levels at 1 h and was maintained until 24 h, paralleled by lung damage to some extent. Western blot showed that the levels of the proteolyzed forms of α-fodrin and ankyrin-B correlated well with the degree of damage. MDL28170 at a dose of 3 mg/kg b. w. given 1 h before burn injury not only antagonized the increase in calpain activity but also ameliorated scald burn-induced lung injury, including the degradation of α-fodrin and ankyrin-B. Immunofluorescence images revealed calpain 1 and CD45 double-positive cells in the lung tissue of rats exposed to scald burn injury, suggesting that leukocytes were a dominant source of calpain. Furthermore, this change was blocked by MDL28170. Finally, MDL28170 given at 1 h post-scald burn injury significantly ameliorated the wet/dry weight ratio compared with burn injury alone. Conclusions Calpain, a product of infiltrating leukocytes, is a mediator of scald burn-induced acute lung injury that involves enhancement of inflammation and proteolysis of membrane skeleton proteins. Its late effects warrant further study.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most lethal gynecological malignancy, with a low 5-year survival rate. Most patients with ovarian cancer are diagnosed in late-stages. A rising number of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been found to act as key regulators of gene expression by applying novel high-thought methods, such as next generation sequencing (NGS). Non-coding RNAs not only play important roles in carcinogenesis, but also affect the clinical treatment strategies. One of the biggest challenge in OC treatment was chemoresistance, which causes poor prognosis and high recurrence rate after applying traditional remedies. Of note, it has been proved that ncRNAs were deeply correlated with chemoresistance in several cancers, which made ncRNAs considered to be potential therapeutic targets in ovarian cancer. Among of all ncRNAs, the studies of miRNAs and lncRNAs in ovarian cancer chemoresistance were much clearer. In this study, we reviewed the most relevant researches in this field, and described the relationships between ncRNAs and chemoresistance in ovarian cancer.

With the advancement of next generation sequencing in past several years, a rising number of non-coding RNAs have been found as new actors to regulate gene expression. Non-coding RNAs not only play important roles in carcinogenesis, but also affect the clinical treatment strategies. They have been proved to be deeply correlated with chemoresistance in several cancers. Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death in gynecological malignancy, with low 5-year survival rate. Most patients are identified when they have late-stage disease. This review mainly makes a compilation of the most relevant research literature in this field with the purpose of shedding light on the relation between ncRNAs and chemoresistance in ovarian cancer.

Based on the dynamic analysis of ANSYS for the intense state of cutlery and ice, the device can be judged whether it can successfully finish the ice and snow removing job. And the process of straight cutting tool of the same height, width and length with the bending one removing the same ice is analyzed using ANSYS under the same the situation. So the stress distribution diagrams were studied. Comparing the stress distribution diagrams between the cutting tools and ice and snow, some results can be gotten. In addition, the rationality of the choice of cutting tool can be proved.

By introducing 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone (UVA) and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) as the ligands, the ternary rare earth complex of Eu(UVA)3Phen is synthesized, and it is characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectra (MS) and infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy. Results show that the Eu(III) in complex emits strong red luminescence when it is excited by UV light, and it has higher sensitized luminescent efficiency and longer lifetime. The organic-inorganic thin film of complex Eu(UVA)3Phen doped with nano-TiO2 is prepared, and the nano-TiO2 is used in the luminescence layer to change the luminescence property of Eu(UVA)3Phen. It is found that there is an efficient energy transfer process between ligands and metal ions. Moreover, in an indium tin oxide (ITO)/poly(N-vinylcar-bazole) (PVK)/Eu(UVA)3Phen/Al device, Eu3+ can be excited by intramolecular ligand-to-metal energy transfer process. The main peak of emission at 613 nm is attributed to 5D0→7F2 transition of the Eu3+, and this process results in the enhanced red emission.

Background Myopic foveoschisis (MF) is among the leading causes of visual loss in high myopia. However, it remains controversial whether internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling or gas tamponade is necessary treatment option for MF. Methods PubMed, EMBASE, CBM, CNKI, WANFANG DATA and VIP databases were systematically reviewed. Outcome indicators were myopic foveoschisis resolution rate, visual acuity improvement and postoperative complications. Results Nine studies that included 239 eyes were selected. The proportion of resolution of foveoschisis was higher in ILM peeling group than non-ILM peeling group (OR = 2.15, 95% CI: 1.06–4.35; P = 0.03). The proportion of postoperative complications was higher in Tamponade group than non-Tamponade group (OR = 10.81, 95% CI: 1.26–93.02; P = 0.03). However, the proportion of visual acuity improvement (OR = 1.63, 95% CI: 0.56–4.80; P = 0.37) between ILM peeling group and non-ILM peeling group and the proportion of resolution of foveoschisis (OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 0.76–4.28; P = 0.18) between Tamponade group and non-Tamponade group were similar. Conclusions Vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane peeling could contribute to better resolution of myopic foveoschisis than non-peeling, however it does not significantly influence the proportion of visual acuity improvement and postoperative complications. Vitrectomy with gas tamponade is associated with more complications than non-tamponade and does not significantly influence the proportion of visual acuity improvement and resolution of myopic foveoschisis. BACKGROUND: Adherence to a combination of healthy lifestyle factors has been related to a considerable reduction of cardiovascular risk in white populations; however, little is known whether such associations persist in nonwhite populations like the Asian population. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to examine the associations of a combination of modifiable, healthy lifestyle factors with the risks of ischemic cardiovascular diseases and estimate the proportion of diseases that could potentially be prevented by adherence to these healthy lifestyle patterns. Combine harvester is the most widely used modern forest machinery; tracked and wheeled logging machine is the common stumper. But each type of logging machine has its shortcomings and therefore it is need to develop a combination of tracked and wheeled logging machine. This logging mechanism takes the form of tracked feet while preserving the flexibility of wheeled logging machine, and also it has the obstacle-crossing ability of tracked harvester. The most important indicator of the performance of this new logging machine is its trafficability in soft and uneven road. This thesis uses multi-body dynamic simulation analysis software RecurDyn to build up the 3D model of such four feet tracked logging machine, and analyzes its dynamical process when meeting ditch. Eventually the logging mechanism performance is got. The conclusions provide foundation for design of combined harvester with four tracked feet.

Background Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is the first molecularly and clinically characterized genetic disease of lipid metabolism. It is an autosomal dominant disorder with significantly elevated levels of total cholesterol and low density of lipoprotein cholesterol in serum, which would lead to extensive xanthomas and premature coronary heart disease. Mutations in low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 and Apo lipoprotein B-100 (APOB) have been identified to be the underlying cause of this disease. Methods Genetic testing and reports of the mutations in the Chinese population are still limited. In this study, 11 unrelated Chinese FH families were enrolled to detect the candidate gene variants by DNA direct sequencing. Results and conclusion We identified 12 mutations (11 in LDLR and one in APOB) in ten FH families. Three novel LDLR mutations (c.516C>A/p.D172E, c.1720C>A/p.R574S and c.760C>T/p.Q254X) were identified and co-segregated with the affected individuals in the families. Our discoveries not only further supports the significant role of LDLR in FH, but also expands the spectrum of LDLR mutations. These new insights will contribute to the genetic diagnosis and counseling of FH patients.
