The present study aimed to assess the usefulness of Dyna CT during transarterial uterine artery embolization (UAE) of fibroids. A total of 65 patients with symptomatic submucosal and intramural fibroids scheduled for transarterial UAE at the First People's Hospital of Changhou between May 2016 and September 2018 were included. Dyna CT and routine digital subtraction angiography (DSA) were performed in all patients during angiographic embolization of the bilateral internal iliac arteries. The visualization qualities of uterine artery origin and fibroids, as imaged by Dyna CT, were compared with DSA anterior-posterior images. Dyna CT provided excellent 3-dimensional visualization of vascular structures of the bilateral internal iliac arteries and uterine artery origin. Dyna CT was primarily useful in patients with overlapped uterine arteries or complex vascular anatomies on DSA anterior-posterior images (Dyna CT 100% vs. DSA anterior-posterior 69.2%, P=0.03). However, stained fibroids were identified in 57/65 cases (87.7%) by Dyna CT, and in all of the cases (100%) by DSA anterior-posterior imaging (P=0.03). Dyna CT is not suitable for procedural evaluation when used alone for transarterial UAE of fibroids. However, Dyna CT is an excellent supplement to DSA anterior-posterior imaging, as it provides additional information to aid in treatment planning.

Image segmentation is the indispensable part in the field of computer vision. There are tremendous methods for handling this task such as Otsu-thresholding and Fuzzy C-means (FCM). However, the segmentation results of the images are occasionally unsatisfactory due to the presence of noise. In this paper, two kinds of spatial information consisting of the relative position information and the intensity information of the neighborhood pixels in an image are taken into consideration in constructing the objective function in FCM. Moreover, Ant Lion Optimization, one of the recently proposed optimization algorithms is utilized to optimize the relevant index. Bioinspired ALO has the robust ability to find optimal parameters in search spaces. So the proposed approach to image segmentation based on Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) and Ant Lion Optimization (ALO) may alleviate this problem to a certain degree. A series of experimental validation has been implemented for demonstrating the performance of the proposed approach in the end of the paper.

In this paper, the elevator control system is designed for 4 floors and 4 station elevators using Panasonic PLC. The functions are realized: (1) at the beginning, the elevator is on any floor. (2) when a call signal comes, it can remember and respond to it. If the call signal is larger than the current floor, the elevator will go up, or go down. (3) when the multiple call signals come, first the elevator will response to the first call.

A photonic crystal fiber (PCF) sensor based on spherical-shape structure cascaded with core-offset structure is proposed and fabricated. The sensor head is composed of PCF and spherical-shape structure cascaded with core-offset structure which are made by the single mode fiber. The temperature and refractive index(RI) are measured by the sensor. Experimental results show temperature sensitivity and refractive index sensitivity are 8.13pm/°C and 188.09nm/RIU, respectively. It can be widely applied in biological and medical sensing.

The design, fabrication and characterization testing of a high-performance micromechanical resonant electrostatic field sensor at low driving voltages is presented. Structures including sensing electrodes, shielding electrodes and suspension beam design are discussed. The electromechanical behavior around the resonant frequency is described by an equivalent electric circuit to predict the output characterization of the sensors. The device is fabricated by a surface micromachining process. With low driving voltages compared with other reported devices, the electrostatic field sensors (EFS) have a resolution of 200 V m−1, the best reported figure for a MEMS-based device used in ambient air at room temperature. A nonlinearity of 1.8% (end-point-straight-line) in a measurement range of 0–10 kV m−1 is achieved. We have also achieved an uncertainty of 4.62% for the measurement data.

We bring forward a novel FBG sensor multiplexing technique based on the combination of wavelength- and spatial-division multiplexing technique. Furthermore, the data acquisition parameter of the multiplexing sensing FBG system is defined. With this technique, the FBG sensors system not only avoid frequently switching and improve the average response speed, but also are able to enact data acquisition rule according to the data acquisition factor that is composed with priority (PRI), the delay time and the wavelength shift of FBG sensors. Therefore, the smart FBG sensors multiplexing system is more rational and smarter than the conventional counterpart. The simulate result and the experiment work demonstrated that the average delay time of smart system is less than conventional ones and immune to the scale size.

Background Posttraumatic hydrocephalus (PTH) is a frequent complication secondary to traumatic brain injury, especially among patients keeping chronic unconscious. And effects of shunt implantation on improving outcomes among these patients are still controversial. This study was aimed to assess the long-term outcomes following shunt implantation among patients who had PTH and kept chronic unconscious. Methods A prospective study was performed to include patients who had PTH and remained in severe conscious disturbance from March 2010 to December 2010. All of included patients would have shunt implantation and be closely followed up at least for 2 years to assess final outcomes. Results Fifteen patients having PTH were identified. Before shunt implantation, 2 patients kept vegetative state (Glasgow Outcome Scale [GOS] score 2), and 13 patients kept minimally consciousness with severe disability (GOS score 3). After shunt implantation, the shunt device was removed because of intracranial infection in 1 patient, and the other patient died because of allergic shock. Among the remaining 13 patients, finally 7 patients had improvement on GOS or Modified Barthel Index (MBI) score during the 2-year follow-up, but only 1 patient achieved a good outcome (GOS score 4, independent life). Among them, 5 patients' outcomes improved as assessed by GOS or MBI score during the first 3 months following shunt implantation. During the fourth to sixth month following shunt implantation, there were 2 patients who showed first rise on GOS or MBI score. Beyond 6 months, no patient showed initial improvement. And among patients who showed improvement, most of them kept improving during a certain time. Conclusions A proportion of patients who had PTH and remained in severe conscious disturbance would benefit from shunt implantation, and the improvement may turn up late after this procedure.

In this paper, an improved AODV - PWAODV (Piggyback and Weighted neighbor stability Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing) protocol with lower route cost and smaller delay is presented. In the algorithm we introduce a piggyback mechanism and weighted neighbor stability algorithm. Essentially, the route cost can be reduced greatly by the use of piggyback mechanism and the link stability algorithm decreases the delay because of ensuring the robustness of the network topology. Finally, by comparison in the simulation via NS2, our newly-mentioned protocol could acquire better route cost and delay performances.

In the next generation mobile network, real-time multimedia applications need better network performance, such as lower handoff delay and packet loss rate. This paper proposes a new protocol named HBSIP, which is Hierarchical Bicasing based SIP. HBSIP is an improvement to the traditional mobile SIP, and the core idea is using the bicasting mechanism and hierarchical structure. Although HBSIP brings about additional network traffic load, in return it significantly enhances the network performance, including reducing handoff delay and packet loss rate. Due to the characters and performance of HBSIP, it is very suitable for the future seamless communication.

A kind of single-core PCF splitter based on tellurite glass was proposed,defected holes were arranged in the outer cladding,they can bring about strong coupling effect between defected mode and the fundamental mode.FEM was used to analysis its characteristics.The simulation results show that this kind of splitter can split light in the bands of 1.3and 1.55μm,propagate along the orthogonal polarized directions.For a propagation distance of 15 mm,the-20 dB bandwidth of crosstalk in 1.3and 1.55μm bands,reach 44.2and 67.1nm.The confinement loss at the wavelength are 0.063 dB and 0.0 48 dB.The proposed splitter has low crosstalk and low confinement loss.

With this technique, the FBG sensing system not only avoid frequently switching and improve the average response speed, but also is able to enact data acquisition rule according to the priority (PRI), the delay time and the wavelength shift of FBG sensors. Therefore, the smart FBG sensors multiplexing system is more rational and smarter than the conventional WDM/SDM multiplexing technique. To validate the feasibility and advantage of the multiplexing technology, a FBG strain sensing system and theory simulation were proposed. The resolution power of the sensing system is 1μe. The average delay time of the technique is lower one magnitude order than the conventional ones.

A new spread spectrum system, named frequency diversity spread spectrum multiple access system (FD/SSMA), which is based on the theory of parallel data transmission and time/frequency duality with the direct sequence spread spectrum multiple system (DS/SSMA) is proposed. It is verified that the FD/SSMA system has a low spectral density, the capability of multiple access, and the convenience of an FFT-based implementation. The performance of the FD/SSMA system in an AWGN channel is analysed.

A local micro-structured long-period fiber grating (LMSLPFG) is proposed and investigated experimentally. The LMSLPFG is fabricated by using hydrofluoric acid (HF) to partially etch a standard long-period fiber grating (LPFG), thereby forming a local defect in the cladding. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that partially etching will change the effective refractive index modulation in the cladding mode, which equivalently introduces a phase shift into the part of defect and manifests, in the spectrogram, as openning a transmission window between the stopbands, forming two transmission stopbands and one transmission passband. On this basis we study the temperatures and bending characteristics of the two stopbands and one passband. The results show that the temperature sensitivities of the two stopbands and one passband are all approximately 0.05 nm/℃; the bending sensitivity of the passband (2.61 nm/m-1) is less than those of two stopbands (4.71 nm/m-1). Thus by using the sensitive matrix, we can simultaneously measure the curvature and temperature, with only one grating used.

A kind of highly birefringent and highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed. The fundamental mode field, birefrin-gence, nonlinear coefficient, effective mode area and dispersion characteristic of the fiber are studied by the full-vector finite elementmethod. Simulation results show that the birefringence becomes larger by reducing the air hole pitch, and the birefringence reachesup to 10-2 at a wavelength of 1550 nm, which is about two orders of magnitude higher than that of the regular elliptic polarizationmaintaining fiber. At the same time, a nonlinear coefficient of 42 W-1·km-1 is obtained. There are two zero dispersion wavelengthsin the visible and the near-infrared region respectively, and flattened chromatic dispersion from 800 nm to 2000 nm is obtained. Sucha design provides a new approach to obtaining highly birefringent and highly nonlinear PCF, and the fiber has a broad prospect ofapplication in the polarization control, nonlinear optics and dispersion control.

Music exposure is known to play a positive role in learning and memory and can be a complementary treatment for anxiety and fear.However, whether juvenile music exposure affects adult behavior is not known. Two-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to music for 2 hours daily or to background noise (controls) for a period of 3 weeks. At 60 days of age, rats were subjected to auditory fear conditioning, fear extinction training, and anxiety-like behavior assessments or to anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) assays. We found that the music-exposed rats showed significantly less freezing behaviors during fear extinction training and spent more time in the open arm of the elevated plus maze after fear conditioning when compared with the control rats. Moreover, the BDNF levels in the ACC in the music group were significantly higher than those of the controls with the fear conditioning session. Tis result suggests that music exposure in juvenile rats decreases anxiety-like behaviors, facilitates fear extinction, and increases BDNF levels in the ACC in adulthood after a stressful event.
