Purpose: This paper seeks to deepen and improve our understanding of business ethics in services by developing a typology that reconciles and integrates disparate and often conflicting ideas and viewpoints while providing practical guidance for ethical decision-making. Design/methodology/approach: The paper examines current theoretical approaches in ethics to provide an understanding of the ethical theories, how they have been applied and how they have evolved in businesses and marketing. It discusses conceptual issues related to ethical dilemmas and the available typologies. Findings: Based on the axioms of the Triple-A Framework for Ethical Service Research, the Typology of Ethical Dilemmas in Services (TEDS) is proposed. The typology identifies three types of dilemmas based on four dimensions considering all service interactions guided by normative ethics (virtue, deontological and consequentialism). Practical implications: The proposed DILEMMAS process illustrates the practical application of TEDS. Originality/value: This paper extends the ethics and services literature by offering a novel theoretical and practical approach to addressing ethical dilemmas. TEDS is authentic, advances our knowledge and applies to all service organizations that aim to manage ethical dilemmas effectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A growing body of research looks into business-led efforts to create social value by improving the socio-economic well-being of Base of the Pyramid (BoP) communities. Research shows that businesses that pursue these strategies—or BoP businesses—face distinct sets of challenges that require unique capabilities. There is, however, limited effort to synthesize current evidence on the mechanisms through which these businesses create social value. We systematically review the literature on BoP businesses, covering 110 studies published in business and management journals. We start by using bibliographic analysis to map the broad contours of the literature in terms of its common theoretical and empirical approaches, intellectual core, and evolution in time. We subsequently conduct a qualitative content analysis on the identified articles to synthesize their main findings. The analysis leads to a conceptual framework that explicates the antecedents, constraints, capabilities, and contingencies that drive social value creation. In addition to providing a rich and systematically organized account of the evidence, our analysis provides a critical reflection on the ethical dilemmas of social value creation efforts for the BoP, and outlines promising avenues for future research. Small business managers increasingly face decisions with ethical implications. It is therefore important to consider ethical decision-making processes in SMEs. Previous studies have shown that SME managers face additional hurdles and that they have fewer tools available to help them. This study of owners and managers of Australian SMEs, confirms that their decision-making process accords with James Rest's Four-Component Model (FCM). The study found that all four components of Rest's model were observable in the majority of the incidents raised by managers. This has important implications for developing a useful tool in the training and development programmes of SME managers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores the character of emotion (felt and displayed) and its value in understanding ethical dilemmas in work organisations. Specifically, we examine the emotional labour of human resource professionals (HRPs). Through in-depth interviews and diary study, we uncover the emotional and ethical struggles of HRPs as they search for the 'right thing to do' in situated interaction. Through the lens of emotion, we chart the process of how the very framing of what is deemed 'right' can move from the social to the moral order (Bauman, Postmodern ethics, 1993) and vice versa. Based on our findings, we contribute to understanding the linkages between emotional and ethical dilemmas, and how expectations of multiple 'others' at the individual, interpersonal and organisational level shape and constrain ethical choices. Purpose: The aim of this study is to explore the process of decision making in selected ethical dilemmas in business. Methodology/Approach: Three scenarios were presented to university students of business schools in Slovakia. All of the scenarios described specific ethical dilemmas which create opposition between profit maximization on the one hand and ethical approach to the business issues on the other hand. The participants were asked to evaluate the decision of the actor in scenarios according to a reduced Multidimensional Ethic Scale which included scales such as justice, relativism, utilitarianism, and egoism. The attitudes of students were explored through other related factors, particularly the age, religiousness, and political orientation. Finally, the ethical position of the students was explored through confirmatory factor analysis, while testing three different models of ethical decision making and possible latent variables. Findings: According to the results of the study, the age and the religion are the factors that determine the decision making in a significant way in most cases. Besides that, the confirmatory factor analysis suggests that students used specific ethical process for each of the scenarios so that they react rather situational than principally. Research Limitation/implication: The study was limited to a certain group of university students and therefore the results cannot be generalized or applied to other students of this age. Neither it is possible to apply it to business managers. However, the study opens discussion on how future managers develop their ethical abilities. Originality/Value of paper: Although there are a lot of research studies in this area, this study combines some different approaches of measuring ethical decision making. It is also one of only few research studies of this kind in Slovakian circumstances. The specific Slovakian background is reflected in the stories chosen as scenarios and used in the research. It is inevitable that ethical questions arise in debt collection organizations and leadership, which is then good ground to identify whether debt collection is good or evil. Therefore we consider that a good standpoint for qualitatively explain the ethical dilemmas arising in our case study context. The article adopts a case study approach to examine Finnish Collection Agency Ltd., and applies a qualitative content analysis of interview data gathered by asking five employees to answer ten questions about how they see conflicts between their work and their own ethical thoughts. We obtained a rich description of the issues facing the debt collection business in Finland. In addition, the conceptual framework is further developed for forthcoming studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A large body of pedagogical research exists on developing curricula and ethics training tools to prepare college graduates for entering the workforce. However, many college students are already in the workforce while they attend school. Many of these jobs are entry-level or frontline employee positions in retail or service industries, which can be ripe opportunities for ethical misconduct. However, most research on ethics and employees has focused on upper-level managers and CEOs. Although insightful, ethics scholars contend that there are more low-level employees who face ethical dilemmas on a daily basis. Given the increase of working students and the paucity of research on entry-level job ethics, this study investigates, categorizes, and analyzes ethical dilemmas faced by college students who work while attending school. This article considers ethical decision-making models and corporate ethical values as its conceptual base. A qualitative approach for this study was taken due to the scarcity of research on ethical issues faced by entry-level employees and the call by ethics researchers for qualitative research to explore the complex and psychosocially embedded nature of business ethics. The implications of the emergent ethical issues and values from this study are then discussed for marketing educators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The global phenomenon contributed to the exclusion of borders between countries and economies, heavily impacting contemporary society. We observe the emergence of a new logic for the conduct of business activities, providing the formation of a highly competitive environment, which impose new models of working relationships and ethical dilemmas. Thus, this article aims to analyze the changes in labor relations and the ethical dilemmas imposed on organizations and the professionals who work in a global society. This study employed the method of qualitative analysis of moving images, performing a description of the movie sequences (narrative units) and finally conducting a content analysis. The methodology used was based on the premise that the film productions are reflections of cultural expressions and address issues that contribute to the analysis of real phenomena. To strengthen relations between cinema and society, films express the reflection of the beliefs and the core values of the culture. This assumption was used for the election of the French Film "Le Couperet" (original title) as an object of analysis, in that it provides a timely view on the world of work and its transformations in modern corporations. The film seems to signal, thus the risks pointed out by authors such as Ransome (1999) about the corrosive effect of these new arrangements work in belief as a source of realization of material and psychological expectations of individuals. The article points out the discussion of corporate ethics as a useful tool for members of the organization in order to retrain individuals to make the effects of a highly competitive environment are mitigated and thus seek a balance between cooperation and assertiveness, respecting the social and moral boundaries. This article first addresses the question of “why” we teach business ethics. Our answer to “why” provides both a response to those who oppose business ethics courses and a direction for course content. We believe a solid, comprehensive course in business ethics should address not only moral philosophy, ethical dilemmas, and corporate social responsibility – the traditional pillars of the disciple – but also additional areas necessary to make sense of the goings-on in the business world and in the news. These “new pillars,” that we advocate include moral psychology, organizational design and behavior, motivational theory, and a unit on how society, business, and law interact. This last unit builds upon the work of Francis P. McHugh (1988) who urged an integration of “disciplines related to business ethics.” Our seventh pillar would encompass an integration of law, socio-political theory, and policy to demonstrate how business helps construct its own regulatory framework. The concluding recommendation is for a comprehensive “Seven Pillars” of business ethics approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The move towards having more teaching of business ethics comes in part from a tendency to view managers negatively, drawing on anti-management theories that are presently popular in business schools. This can lead to a misdiagnosis of the causes of contemporary business problems. Teaching business ethics can, however, be ineffectual and counter-productive. Education in ethical philosophy can lead managers to be indecisive, sceptical or to rationalize poor conduct. The ethics of academics become salient and lapses in them undercut their claims to authority. The philosophical viewpoint that stresses free choice runs contrary to the social science mission to reveal the causes that determine human behaviour and provide solutions to problems. Pro-management theory offers a more positive appreciation of managers, with its three components of structural functionalism, strategic functionalism and stewardship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Personal values have long been associated with individual decision behavior. The role played by personal values in decision making within an organization is less clear. Past research has found that managers tend to respond to ethical dilemmas situationally. This study examines the relationship between personal values and the ethical dimension of decision making using Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis. The study examines personal values as they relate to five types of ethical dilemmas. We found a significant positive contribution of altruistic values to ethical decision making and a significant negative contribution of self-enhancement values to ethical decision making. Many believe that colleges of business have a role to play in improving the level of marketing ethics practiced in the business world, while others believe that by the time students reach the level of university education, their ethical beliefs are so ingrained as to be virtually unalterable. The purpose of this study is to add to the literature regarding university students’ ethical value judgments. It utilizes scenario studies to assess base line ethical values of junior level undergraduate business administration students, then techniques are employed to influence students’ perceptions of the ethics of various marketing practices, and students’ values are reassessed. A total of 667 junior and senior level students majoring in business administration (52% female; 48% male; 72% 22-years old or younger) participated in the pre-tests and 525 students (47% female; 53% male; 70% 22-years-old or younger) participated in the post-tests. The results of the before/after studies indicate that some experimental techniques are more effective than others in affecting change, but it is difficult to affect long-run change in those predisposed to unethical behavior. Ethical guidelines for psychologists are meant to stimulate and help psychologists to act appropriately with respect to clients, colleagues, and other individuals involved in their professional relations. This paper focuses on the similarity of codes of ethics of psychologists in European countries in general, and on specific ethical dilemmas in the area of work and organizations in particular. First, an overview is given of the development of ethical guidelines in Europe and the USA. Second, the results are presented of a survey by E-mail amongst members of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) to identify the differences and similarities between ethical guidelines of the affiliate members. Third, the potential dilemmas of stakeholders in work and organizational assessment are addressed. Finally, the results of a survey among Dutch selection psychologists are presented. The purpose of this study was to examine a possible tension between normative behavior and attitudes about normal behavior. It was concluded that ethical guidelines of European countries cover comparable (sub-)principles and that there are indications that individual psychologists agree with the written principles. In addition, suggestions for future research are given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While ethical and moral issues have been widely considered in the general areas of marketing and sales, similar attention has not been given to the impact of strategic account management (SAM) approaches to handling the relationships between suppliers and very␣large customers. SAM approaches have been widely␣adopted by suppliers as a mechanism for managing␣relationships and partnerships with dominant customers␣– characterized by high levels of buyer–seller inter-dependence and forms of collaborative partnership. Observation suggests that the perceived moral intensity of␣these relationships is commonly low, notwithstanding the underlying principles of benefiting the few (large, strategic customers) at the expense of the many (smaller customers and other stakeholders), and the magnitude of the consequences of concessions made to large customers, even though some such consequences may be unintended. Dilemmas exist also for executives implementing strategic account relationships regarding such issues as information sharing, trust, and hidden incentives for unethical behaviour. We propose the need for greater transparency and senior management questioning of the ethical and moral issues implicit in strategic account management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article demonstrates how the system archetype ‘drifting goals’ can be used in the classroom to explore ethical dilemmas. System archetypes provide a framework that shifts the focus from seeing ethical dilemmas as stemming solely from the acts of individuals to exploring the systemic structures that are responsible for generic patterns of behavior over time. The use of a system archetype in the classroom is an important pedagogical approach and communication device to encourage systemic thinking. The drifting goals archetype exposes students to new ways of thinking about ethical problems and the structures that create them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contemporary economic thought presumes that individuals in a society always act according to their self-interest or private economic incentives, while important ethical motivations for action, such as a concern for others and public interest, are largely ignored. This paper is based on my experience of teaching an undergraduate course that highlighted the divergence between economic incentives and ethical motives for action in present-day life and business. Teaching tools such as lectures, case and group discussions were employed to address important ethical dilemmas of individuals and managers in contemporary societies. Readings underscored the evolving relationship of business ethics and economic incentives, and the relevance of ancient ethical principles (e.g., Ethics of Interdependence, and Ethics of Prudence and Self-Development) to present-day business ethics. The course emphasized the imminent need in contemporary societies to reduce the divergence between economic incentives and ethical motives for action, and called for a greater understanding of business ethics today, given the complex ethical concerns that managers confront in the current global environment. This purpose of the research was to examine how entrepreneurs experience and deal with ethical dilemmas. In so doing, the author also uncovered some interesting aspects of entrepreneurial life in South Africa. This was a phenomenological study, based on interviews with seven entrepreneurs in established service-oriented ventures. For the purposes of this research, an entrepreneur was defined as a person who has created something of value and assumed the risk of establishing and managing a business around it. Each of the participating entrepreneurs was asked to describe their business, any dilemmas they've experienced, how they were handled, and what challenges they experience as an entrepreneur in South Africa today. This paper focuses on how entrepreneurs in South Africa view the challenges facing them. These include overcoming the legacies of apartheid, containing crime, fostering an acceptable business ethic, dealing with diversity, and facilitating reconciliation between ethnic groups. Professional Ethics, viewed as a managerial challenge and opportunity in this study, deals with the often overlooked conceptions, actions and behavior of individuals who see themselves both as members of a profession and as members of an organization. Managers have to deal with this dual loyalty and inherent potential for conflict. This is of particular importance for new types of organizations when wanting to develop and sustain an ethical platform for the ultimate goal--assuring that future business decisions of individuals are in "ethical balance" with the organization's own values and goals. This paper explores the different climate change strategies chosen by three major multinational oil corporations: ExxonMobil, TotalFinaElf and BP Amoco. They are referred to, as the ‘fight against emission constraints,’ ‘wait and see,’ and ‘proactive’ strategies, respectively. The justifications given to support these strategies are identified. They cover the business, scientific, political, economic, technological and social dimensions. In a business ethics framework, the issue of climate change brings forth an ethical dilemma for the oil industry, in the form of a tension between profits and CO2 emissions. The strategies are analysed as three attitudes towards this dilemma: (i) placing priority on the business consequences while weakening the perception that anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are causing climate change; (ii) avoiding responsibility; and (iii) placing priority on the need for a modification of the business process while limiting the negative effect in terms of business consequences. In conclusion, we propose that beyond the ethical issues proper to climate change itself, additional ethical issues are raised if society at large is instrumentalised by an industry in its search for profit. Publicly gauging and valorising the ethical commitment of a corporation appear as ways of inducing more collaborative and proactive attitudes by business actors. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In this paper I examine how the constituent elements of a firm's organizational structure affect the ethical behavior of workers. The formal features of organizations I examine are the compensation practices, performance and evaluation systems, and decision-making assignments. I argue that the formal organizational structure, which is distinguished from corporate culture, is necessary, though not sufficient, in solving ethical problems within firms. At best the formal structure should not undermine the ethical actions of workers. When combined with a strong culture, however, the organizational structure may be sufficient in promoting ethical conduct. While helpful, ethics training and corporate codes are neither necessary nor sufficient in promoting ethical behavior within firms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We define ethical system infrastructure as being composed of three major factors -- means, motivation, and opportunity. Means are defined as organizational rules, policies, and procedures. Motivation focuses upon the values and the interests being pursued by the position occupant and the organizational value system, while opportunity is discussed in terms of the environment in which the dilemma occurs, proposing that position in the hierarchy presents its own unique set of ethical dilemmas. Ethical breeches are discussed in terms of the interactional processes among means, motivation, and opportunity. Finally, a sequential process is suggested to use the infrastructural components to institutionalize organizational ethics training and subsequent behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The simplest way to define business ethics can be as an area of ethics that defines certain business acts as good or bad and based on these definitions, directs management to decide and follow "good" principles. More and more consumers require companies to make decisions for a more ethical way of doing business, but consequently they are increasingly paying attention to corporate abuse and abuse within individual businesses. Lately, there is a lot of writing, mainly because of the famous affairs in the business world, dedicated to discrimination in the business world. Discrimination in the business context is defined as a priority or less priority treatment for each individual, on grounds not directly related to their qualifications and actions in the workplace – race, sex, age, religion and other. Due to the prevalence of the dilemma and the desire for discrimination in the business world (and other areas) to be limited to the greatest extent possible, the institutions responsible for combating this type of treatment, form a growing number of laws which define a different treatment as a criminal offence punishable by a penal or imprisonment. In thesis, according to these guidelines, we identified theoretical aspects of business ethics and discrimination at work. We also focused on the legal aspects of banning discrimination in the labour market in the Republic of Slovenia. In this connection, we addressed the most common types of discrimination in Slovenia and identified proposals for practice through which the situation could be improved.

The main objective of this thesis is to explore the use of Codes of Ethics in organizations by Human Resources managers. We intend to assess the importance of this document in organizations, as well as its weight in decision-making. We chose a qualitative methodology, gathering ten semi-directive interviews with Human Resources managers working in companies with different dimensions and areas of activity. These interviews were subsequently subjected to a content analysis process. Some of the main results of this research show us that most Human Resources managers see the Code of Ethics as an important and indispensable component in the organization. This being the document which lists and defends the moral values the company wants to uphold, we were also shown that the Code of Ethics is crucial to the dissemination of moral behavioral patterns the company wants to implement. At the same time, it factors undeniably in the majority of Human Resources managers’ decision-making processes. However, we were also shown that this only happens if the document has clear content, is well implemented, well publicized, well internalized, and reinforced throughout time. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Due to an increase of internationalization Swedish SMEs are faced with more issues regarding ethical dilemmas when entering foreign markets than they have been in the past. The ethical dilemmas, such as bribery and corruption, affect companies’ entry strategies in regards of moral standards and becomes an issue for markets that are characterised as being unstable. A common denominator for unstable markets is political instability which usually leads to an increase of ethical dilemmas. This thesis provides a deeper understanding to how Swedish SMEs enter politically unstable markets and how CSR can be used as a tool to identify and avoid ethical dilemmas. To enable this study a qualitative research was conducted to analyse the process of already established Swedish SMEs in politically unstable markets. By doing so, practical and theoretical implications could be identified, subsequently contributing Swedish SMEs with valuable information on how to enter politically unstable markets. The outcome of this study suggests ethical dilemmas affect Swedish SMEs’ entry to politically unstable markets. In a market where ethical dilemmas are prominent SMEs ought to do a thorough risk analysis before entering the market and also select the mode of entry. This study concludes a trade based entry mode is most suitable for Swedish SMEs when entering politically unstable markets since local contact is crucial since it reduces the risks of entering the market. Furthermore, during the course of the study it became evident that CSR can be used as a moral framework to identify and avoid ethical dilemmas in politically unstable markets. CSR strategies provide moral and ethical guidelines for Swedish SMEs and thereby affect the selection process of markets and business partners. The findings of this thesis suggest there is a linkage between business ethics, CSR and entry strategies. Therefore, the research is valuable for Swedish SMEs who seek to enter politically unstable markets.

Refereed/Peer-reviewed

In the diploma thesis, we first defined what ethics is, what business ethics is, and how people and organizations look at it. Companies mostly ensure ethics of acting and behaviour through the use of ethical codes, which are the most common instrument for implementing the set principles of action and behaviour. Ethical codes are principles, guidelines and rules of a company that are based on their values and goals. They should summarize all the possible ethical dilemmas and situations in which employees can find themselves in the context of their actions and behaviour in the organization. We selected four random ethical codes, summarized and analysed them, and found out that the basic components are very similar, but they differ considerably by giving emphasis to different strands. The more important recurring sets are the attitude of the company towards the employees and vice versa, the attitude towards customers, suppliers, and business partners, as well as the attitude towards the environment. Considering the characteristics of the analysed codes, we have developed a new code of ethics, which will in the long run contribute to the company's reputation, and analysed whether it would also be suitable for other small Slovenian manufacturing companies. Based on this analysis, we came to the conclusion that this would only be partially appropriate. A composed code of ethics could only serve as a suitable basis for other small Slovenian manufacturing companies, but due to its specificity, we cannot completely copy it.

During my diploma project I focused on the influence of individual values on the business ethics in an organisation. Ethics is very important for the business. It matters for the organisation as well as for all their employees. The organisations must give their employees the feeling of respect and show them that the act of organisation is ethical. Ethical behaviour is expected on each level of the organisation. Top management must work in ethical way, as we all know if there is no ethics at the top, it is impossible to expect other employees’ actions being ethical. My diploma project consists of the theoretical and empirical section. The theoretical part describes organisation’s business ethics, its behaviour, organisation ethics in general, employers impact on organisations behaviour, employers values and impact of personal values on business ethics. In empirical part, I analysed how people who are experienced in recruiting are dealing with values and ethics in an organisation, also if they themselves are able to contribute to contribute to positive ethics in the organisation. I have identified through research that employees influence on the organisation as individuals and they do try to be ethical at work, including with doing their work as it should have been done. Personal characteristics and values of every individual are playing an important role when recruiting for new employees, as nowadays it is very important that individual shares values with the organisation and its employees. In this way, we can also determine more accurate role descriptions. The values are changing with seniority of the position. I identified that more senior decision makers who possess more experience are looking for positive as well as negative characteristics in junior employees. Through my research, I have found that top management should have been continuously educated in ethics because it is very important to introduce ethical climate inside the organization.

Global business has a huge impact on life in modern society. It creates commercial needs, meets them on the regular basis, but its ideology and practice at the same time affects social values and institutions. Traditional entrepreneurship in many ways promotes the mentality that it is particularly important to care for yourself and your personal interests. Only when society is confronted with the negative consequences of business mentality, such as destroyed local communities, large-scale social problems and huge environmental catastrophes, the fear of losing consumers profits, traditional entrepreneurship is pushed towards socially responsible actions. In those circumstances, a new idea of social entrepreneurship arises on out of public frustration and the determination that something needs to be changed. By making positive change in the society its main concern, social entrepreneurship brings hope for a gradual transformation of social values. In this diploma thesis we wanted to identify basic differences between traditional and social entrepreneurship. Is social entrepreneurship really a socially responsible entrepreneurship governed primarily by ethical principles? Can we expect social entrepreneurship to address the most common ethical issues in the corporate world more efficiently than classical entrepreneurship?

Razložili smo pojem poslovne uspešnosti in njeno merjenje s pomočjo različnih kazalnikov. In recent years we have witnessed an ever-increasing display of unethical behavior. Ethical and social behavior is becoming increasingly important in private and business because we are aware that other factors are also important for long-term success of the company. The opinions of different authors have in common the fact that ethics have positive impact on business performance. But is this really so? In the first part of graduate seminar, we first describe the ethics in general. Theoretically, we describe what business ethics, professional ethics is, and some ethical dilemmas company must face. We explained the concept of business performance and how is measurement using different indicators. The theory was tested on a practical case of 169 Slovenian companies. The aim of the thesis was to investigate the influence of business ethics on business performance. We found that the Ethics2 is positive statistically related to business performance, measured as growth profit or loss in years 2008 to 2013 (the correlation coefficient 0.207). This means that ethics can explain about 4% of the variation in performance observed enterprise.

Podjetja, ki vlagajo v človeški kapital, so uspešna in imajo v svetu največji ugled. Companies in the global market are faced with dilemmas in the field of social responsibility and business ethics. The dominant source of dilemmas is the diversity of cultures and consequently different values in areas where the companies operate. The highest management of the companies is therefore faced with the challenge of how to ensure such action, that the company will uphold the wishes of the global consumer and at the same time meet the expectations of shareholders. Companies often find themselves in the so-called "gray area", which is located between ethics and laws. For decisions in such situations codes of ethics are the greatest support. Throughout history, perceptions of ethics and corporate social responsibility is changing and growing with social consciousness. Ethical business and corporate social responsibility in the global market have never before had such great importance. The main priority of business ethics is a requirement for a fair business. Ethnicity should be evident in the vision, mission and strategy of the company. Global companies have realized that ethically and socially responsible business brings many advantages. The greatest threat to social development is corruption. There are many organizations that fight together against corruption and thereby reduce its harmful impact. The corruption is often linked to money laundering. Illegally obtained money can be channeled to various terrorist organizations, which represents a major threat to security in the world. In third world countries, despite improving conditions, there are still a lot of factories where basic human rights of the workers are violated. Much of the blame for these violations bears global companies whose products are produced in these factories. Companies that invest in human capital are successful and have the highest reputation in the world.

With the development of economic and cultural globalization, the study of business ethics has been arisen in recent years. Business ethics involves in many fields such as culture, ethics and business behaviors. Generally speaking, universal ethics refers to the basic human rights and obligations of the agreement to all human beings. While the “Integrative Social Contracts Theory” can be used as an effective tool to analyze the universal ethics. In the framework of universal ethic, their has the specific ethical characteristics of Chinese and Western cultures, specifically speaking, Western ethics based on rules and emphasizing the equality and individual rights to avoid the conflicts among social members; Chinese ethics based on family and relations which tries to maintain a stable social order. This paper puts particular emphasis on discussing the issue of business ethics in China which aims to arouse the ethical consciousness of Chinese enterprises. Comparatively speaking, Chinese ethical systems have the dual influences on business behaviors, on the one hand, Chinese enterprises tend to manage emotionally which have the harmonious interpersonal relationship, high cohesion, and centralized decision-making authority; on the other hand, nepotism, parents system, the neglect of individual rights and equality and the weakness of institutionalized management is the malady of the Chinese enterprises. Only dealing with the ethical conflicts between different cultures, can more Chinese multinational enterprises succeed globally and more foreign companies invest in China.

Prav menedžerji morajo redno obveščati vse zaposlene o pomembnosti etike in jim dajati vzgled. Ker so v poslovanje podjetja vpletene številne osebe, mnogokrat prihaja do etičnih dilem. In my diploma work we first define ethics in general, describe the history of ethics and then go into researching ethics in the financial sector and among other things discuss the example of ethics in banks. We have found that ethics in financial management are very important for the long-term success of the company. A company's working atmosphere depends on all employees, especially from senior staff who can largely affect the ethics of the entire organization. Managers should regularly inform all employees about the importance of ethics and give them an example. In today's situation where there is so much corruption, people increasingly value honesty, reliability and trust - in other words ethnicity. And if a company's reputation is gone, it can quickly remain without customers for good. Because many people are involved in the company performance it can often come to ethical dilemmas. Each person will advocate their views, which are often opposing. The manager’s task is to coordinate the interests of different stakeholders in the company as well as outside it in a way that is beneficial to all parties involved.

Several theories exist on how managers think aboutethical responsibilities in a business environment. Some stress the economic way of thinking and explainwhy there is no space for moral reasoning in abusiness environment. Others claim that in a businessenvironment also moral considerations can play animportant role. In this article, we will explore theway managers have actually dealt with potentialdilemmas in organizational change processes, especially changes with drastic consequences foremployees. Do managers consider moral arguments? Dothey feel a moral responsibility towards theiremployees? And in what way do they include a moralresponsibility in the decision process and itsoutcomes? These questions were investigated throughcase studies in two organisations and interviews withsix managers in other companies. The framework whichis used in the research will be described and the mainresults of the field-research will be presented. Wedid find that managers actually strived to some extentfor fair and morally responsible solutions in dilemmasituations, but in another way then we expectedbeforehand. Managers did not base their acting onmoral arguments. Instead they used a more pragmaticapproach wherein acting in a morally responsible wayis based on strategic arguments, such as the positiveeffects for the organisation in the long run.

Societies nowadays require greater attention to social issues - social responsibility - so that companies no longer have for only purpose the maximum profit. Therefore, managing people - including their motivations and needs - and reply to a society moral and legally demanding while seeking to achieve the strategic objectives of the organization is a challenge to which Human Resource professionals have to be prepare. In these scenario of pressure from society, when it concerns to issues of corporate social responsibility, there is a relationship of conflict between the economic (the highest possible profit) and social objectives of the organization (answering the questions of social responsibility that society demands and meet the needs of their employees). The Human Resources professionals arise in this context as those responsible for arbitrating the conflict, assuming a mediating role of different interests within the organization. However, this position puts the professional in situations where their values come into conflict with the demands faced in day-to-day. The complexity of the practices of Human Resources Management and the paradigm of power relations within the organization will put those professionals in situations ethically questionable. Thus, the aim of this paper is to identify the ethical dilemmas that Human Resources professionals face in the course of their activities and to analyze how these dilemmas are understood and resolved. In order to achieve this objective, the study focuses on the concept of ethics and it tries to identify the ethical implications arising out of the Human Resources function and situations that may be considered ethical dilemmas for those professionals. The study is based on a theoretical review of this issue and the methodology used is qualitative analysis. Thus, we applied semi-structured interviews to six Human Resources professionals, which were addressed through content analysis. As main results we can say that the ethical dilemmas of Human Resources professionals are a result of their dual roles and from factors such as access to privileged information, organizational culture, management of communication and conflict management. Recruitment and selection, performance evaluation, separation (layoffs), prizes and benefits and discipline (moral and sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying professional) are practices that may pose ethical dilemmas that Human Resources professionals have to face and know how to manage. The main values mentioned by Human Resources professionals are respect, honesty, integrity, transparency, fairness, and professionalism exemption.

Organisational culture is a very complex notion that reflects the history of an undertaking and takes rather long to develop. It begins with the establishment of the company and changes during its history. Organisational culture affects the behaviour of the members of the organisation and the successful operation of the undertaking. It is extremely valuable for the organisation and therefore, managers should devote a lot of attention to it. Organisational culture of an organisation has a strong impact on the ethical operation of the organisation. Organisations in which organisational culture supports the ethical operation of their employees are economically more efficient compared to the ones operating unethically. For an organisation, ethics is important for different reasons. An organisation that operates in accordance with criteria, values, expectations and needs of the society, can expect a positive response from the public. An organisation that operates ethically enjoys the confidence and support of the society, which represents a strong foundation for the success of the company. The obligation of each and every accountant is to communicate with the public and act in its interest, although it may be against their own. He or she has to provide real and reveal important information, even if this is difficult to follow due to public pressure. The accountant's job includes personal values gained from their family and living environment. These values change during the operation of the accountant according to their expert colleagues, expectations of the company in which he or she works, accounting profession, and experiences gained through his or her work. Incorrect or unethical decisions are often influenced by the pressure of the management that wants to portray a better financial image of the company in order to attract new investors, receive loans or award bonuses.
