Standardisation of genetic parts has become a topic of increasing interest over the last decades. The promise of simplifying molecular cloning procedures, while at the same time making them more predictable and reproducible has led to the design of several biological standards, one of which is modular cloning (MoClo). The Yeast MoClo toolkit provides a large library of characterised genetic parts combined with a comprehensive and flexible assembly strategy. Here we aimed to (1) simplify the adoption of the standard by providing a simple design tool for including new parts in the MoClo library, (2) characterise the toolkit further by demonstrating the impact of a BglII site in promoter parts on protein expression, and (3) expand the toolkit to enable efficient construction of gRNA arrays, marker-less integration cassettes and combinatorial libraries. These additions make the toolkit more applicable for common engineering tasks and will further promote its adoption in the yeast biological engineering community.

Background: The proliferation of systematic reviews has impacted library operations and activities as librarians support, collaborate, and perform more tasks in the systematic review process. This case report describes a toolkit that librarians with extensive experience in supporting multiple review teams use to manage time, resources, and expectations in the systematic review process.Case Presentation: The toolkit is a compilation of documents that we use to effectively communicate with and help review teams understand and navigate each stage of the systematic review process. Elements included in the toolkit and discussed in this case report are intake forms, communication templates and memoranda, a process flow diagram, library guides on tools for retrieval and data appraisal, and established standards for guidance during the write-up stage. We describe the use of the toolkit for both education and project management, with a focus on its use in helping manage team time, resources, and expectations.Discussion: The systematic review toolkit helps librarians connect systematic review steps and tasks to actionable items. The content facilitates and supports discussion and learning by both librarians and team members. This toolkit helps librarians share important information and resources for each stage of the process.

Background Transformer is an attention-based architecture proven the state-of-the-art model in natural language processing (NLP). To reduce the difficulty of beginning to use transformer-based models in medical language understanding and expand the capability of the scikit-learn toolkit in deep learning, we proposed an easy to learn Python toolkit named transformers-sklearn. By wrapping the interfaces of transformers in only three functions (i.e., fit, score, and predict), transformers-sklearn combines the advantages of the transformers and scikit-learn toolkits. Methods In transformers-sklearn, three Python classes were implemented, namely, BERTologyClassifier for the classification task, BERTologyNERClassifier for the named entity recognition (NER) task, and BERTologyRegressor for the regression task. Each class contains three methods, i.e., fit for fine-tuning transformer-based models with the training dataset, score for evaluating the performance of the fine-tuned model, and predict for predicting the labels of the test dataset. transformers-sklearn is a user-friendly toolkit that (1) Is customizable via a few parameters (e.g., model_name_or_path and model_type), (2) Supports multilingual NLP tasks, and (3) Requires less coding. The input data format is automatically generated by transformers-sklearn with the annotated corpus. Newcomers only need to prepare the dataset. The model framework and training methods are predefined in transformers-sklearn. Results We collected four open-source medical language datasets, including TrialClassification for Chinese medical trial text multi label classification, BC5CDR for English biomedical text name entity recognition, DiabetesNER for Chinese diabetes entity recognition and BIOSSES for English biomedical sentence similarity estimation. In the four medical NLP tasks, the average code size of our script is 45 lines/task, which is one-sixth the size of transformers’ script. The experimental results show that transformers-sklearn based on pretrained BERT models achieved macro F1 scores of 0.8225, 0.8703 and 0.6908, respectively, on the TrialClassification, BC5CDR and DiabetesNER tasks and a Pearson correlation of 0.8260 on the BIOSSES task, which is consistent with the results of transformers. Conclusions The proposed toolkit could help newcomers address medical language understanding tasks using the scikit-learn coding style easily. In future, more medical language understanding tasks will be supported to improve the applications of transformers_sklearn.

Purpose Image-guided surgery (IGS) is an integral part of modern neuro-oncology surgery. Navigated ultrasound provides the surgeon with reconstructed views of ultrasound data, but no commercial system presently permits its integration with other essential non-imaging-based intraoperative monitoring modalities such as intraoperative neuromonitoring. Such a system would be particularly useful in skull base neurosurgery. Methods We established functional and technical requirements of an integrated multi-modality IGS system tailored for skull base surgery with the ability to incorporate: (1) preoperative MRI data and associated 3D volume reconstructions, (2) real-time intraoperative neurophysiological data and (3) live reconstructed 3D ultrasound. We created an open-source software platform to integrate with readily available commercial hardware. We tested the accuracy of the system’s ultrasound navigation and reconstruction using a polyvinyl alcohol phantom model and simulated the use of the complete navigation system in a clinical operating room using a patient-specific phantom model. Results Experimental validation of the system’s navigated ultrasound component demonstrated accuracy of $$ < 4.5 mm and a frame rate of 25 frames per second. Clinical simulation confirmed that system assembly was straightforward, could be achieved in a clinically acceptable time of $$ < 15 min and performed with a clinically acceptable level of accuracy. Conclusion We present an integrated open-source research platform for multi-modality IGS. The present prototype system was tailored for neurosurgery and met all minimum design requirements focused on skull base surgery. Future work aims to optimise the system further by addressing the remaining target requirements.

Background: Few electronic resources are available for new mothers with concerns about changes in their pelvic floorfollowing childbirth. Patients may struggle when seeking authoritative information regarding pelvic floor conditions online given the sensitivity of the topic as well as the inadvertent connection to obscene or demeaning content found online. A health sciences librarian partnered with the Motherhood and Pelvic Health Study, an interdisciplinary research group, to provide expert searching skills for a particularly challenging health condition that patients struggle to find useful information on. Case Presentation: A custom rubric was developed to evaluate existing information products, which included criteria for cultural sensitivity, conflicts of interest, and other red flags. This evaluation process enabled the research team to identify top-tier evidence-based materials that were culturally congruent. This collaborative evaluation process led to the creation of a web-based toolkit resource for new mothers concerned about changes in their pelvic floor. The toolkit connects women to pertinent information on a national health organization’s patient portal, supplemented by videos created by the team to serve as models of communication for women and health care providers. Conclusion: When developing a web-based resource, health sciences libraries can partner with research teams to find, evaluate, and disseminate information. Culturally congruent toolkits such as this one can improve access to health information and lead to improved health outcomes. To ensure that the information highlighted in toolkits is both culturally congruent and authoritative, research teams should form advisory committees and partner with relevant professional medical associations.

International audience; Human-centered approaches to machine learning have established theoretical foundations, design principles and interaction techniques to facilitate end-user interaction with machine learning systems. Yet, general-purpose toolkits supporting the design of interactive machine learning systems are still missing, despite their potential to foster reuse, appropriation and collaboration between different stakeholders including developers, machine learning experts, designers and end users. In this paper, we present an architectural model for toolkits dedicated to the design of human interactions with machine learning. The architecture is built upon a modular collection of interactive components that can be composed to build interactive machine learning workflows, using reactive pipelines and composable user interfaces. We introduce Marcelle, a toolkit for the design of human interactions with machine learning that implements this model. We illustrate Marcelle with two implemented case studies: (1) a HCI researcher conducts user studies to understand novice interaction with machine learning, and (2) a machine learning expert and a clinician collaborate to develop a skin cancer diagnosis system. Finally, we discuss our experience with the toolkit, along with its limitation and perspectives.

BackgroundCare coordination tools and toolkits can be challenging to implement. Practice facilitation, an active but expensive strategy, may facilitate toolkit implementation. We evaluated the comparative effectiveness of distance coaching, a form of practice facilitation, for improving the implementation of care coordination quality improvement (QI) projects.MethodsWe conducted a mixed methods evaluation of the Coordination Toolkit and Coaching (CTAC) initiative. Twelve matched US Veterans Health Administration primary care clinics were randomized to receive coaching and an online care coordination toolkit (“coached”;n = 6) or access to the toolkit only (“non-coached”;n = 6). We did interviews at six, 12, and 18 months. For coached sites, we‘ly collected site visit fieldnotes, prospective coach logs, retrospective coach team debriefs, and project reports. We employed matrix analysis using constructs from the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research and a taxonomy of outcomes. We assessed each site’s project(s) using an adapted Complexity Assessment Tool for Systematic Reviews.ResultsEleven sites implemented a local CTAC project. Eight sites (5 coached, 3 non-coached) used at least one tool from the toolkit. Coached sites implemented significantly more complex projects than non-coached sites (11.5 vs 7.5, 95% confidence interval 1.75–6.25,p ConclusionsCoaching had a positive influence on QI skills of (and relationships among) coached sites’ team members, and the scope and rigor of projects. However, a 12-month project period was potentially too short to ensure full project implementation or to address cross-setting or patient-partnered initiatives.Trial registrationNCT03063294.

The mass customization (MC) toolkit is the major enabler of relational value for consumers. Not a new concept, but nascent in the context of the MC co-design experience, mixed reality (MR) merges the real and virtual world. While the literature extols the significance of MR components - augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) - in manufacturing, IT, education and, to a limited extent, retail, few if any studies address its relevance to MC and the consumer’s perceived value of the co-design experience. Is a mixed reality configurator viable as the enabler of relational benefit in the consumer co-design experience? With visual and feedback features critical to the structure of successful web- based configurators, what characteristics must a MR toolkit possess to deliver optimal experiential value to the MC consumer? What is the nature of the MR toolkit and its bearing upon perceived complexity, control and enjoyment of the co-design process? Are these perceptions the most relevant to consider in designing a MC toolkit utilizing MR technology? This conceptual paper attempts to define a mixed reality toolkit and explore its potential influence on the consumer’s perception of value of the MC co-design experience in the mixed reality context.

Virtual reality (VR) systems offer a powerful tool for human behavior research. The ability to create three-dimensional visual scenes and to measure responses to the visual stimuli enables the behavioral researcher to test hypotheses in a manner and scale that were previously unfeasible. For example, a researcher wanting to understand interceptive timing behavior might wish to violate Newtonian mechanics so that objects can move in novel 3-D trajectories. The same researcher might wish to collect such data with hundreds of participants outside the laboratory, and the use of a VR headset makes this a realistic proposition. The difficulty facing the researcher is that sophisticated 3-D graphics engines (e.g., Unity) have been created for game designers rather than behavioral scientists. To overcome this barrier, we have created a set of tools and programming syntaxes that allow logical encoding of the common experimental features required by the behavioral scientist. The Unity Experiment Framework (UXF) allows researchers to readily implement several forms of data collection and provides them with the ability to easily modify independent variables. UXF does not offer any stimulus presentation features, so the full power of the Unity game engine can be exploited. We use a case study experiment, measuring postural sway in response to an oscillating virtual room, to show that UXF can replicate and advance upon behavioral research paradigms. We show that UXF can simplify and speed up the development of VR experiments created in commercial gaming software and facilitate the efficient acquisition of large quantities of behavioral research data.

While a number of risk assessment methodologies and software tools are available, it is most often the case that one must, at least, integrate them into a holistic approach that combines several appropriate risk sources as input to risk mitigation tools. In addition, cyber risk assessment primarily investigates cyber risks as the consequence of vulnerabilities and threats that threaten assets of the investigated infrastructure. In fact, cyber risk assessment is decoupled from privacy impact assessment, which aims to detect privacy-specific threats and assess the degree of compliance with data protection legislation. Furthermore, a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is conducted in a proactive manner during the design phase of a system, combining processing activities and their inter-dependencies with assets, vulnerabilities, real-time threats and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that may occur during the dynamic life-cycle of systems. In this paper, we propose a cyber and privacy risk management toolkit, called AMBIENT (Automated Cyber and Privacy Risk Management Toolkit) that addresses the above challenges by implementing and integrating three distinct software tools. AMBIENT not only assesses cyber and privacy risks in a thorough and automated manner but it also offers decision-support capabilities, to recommend optimal safeguards using the well-known repository of the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Controls. To the best of our knowledge, AMBIENT is the first toolkit in the academic literature that brings together the aforementioned capabilities. To demonstrate its use, we have created a case scenario based on information about cyber attacks we have received from a healthcare organisation, as a reference sector that faces critical cyber and privacy threats.

Social sustainability has for long been either neglected or downplayed in scientific literature and policy making and it remains an unsettled concept. The present paper critically examines several explanations for the unequal development of the social component of sustainability and suggests that social learning can serve as an insightful anchor for conceptualizing and operationalizing social sustainability. Collaborative governance is used to showcase this approach, specifically, a targeted review of multi-stakeholder schemes in natural resource management, wildlife conservation, and protected area governance. These schemes can exemplify a wide array of commonalities between the fields of social sustainability and social learning and reveal a fruitful cross-fertilization of the two concepts. The paper wishes to make two contributions. First, a specific dialectic between stakeholder collaboration and conflict under power asymmetries will be illustrated, which is characteristic in the operation of many multi-stakeholder governance schemes. Second, the need for scaffolding social learning in such schemes will be demonstrated so that a process-oriented account of social sustainability is attained. The way out offered by the present paper is that the dynamics between collaboration and conflict, properly managed by means of a toolkit with social learning templates for multi-stakeholder environmental governance schemes, may serve as a precondition for innovations sought.

**Background:** Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic condition affecting primarily individuals of African descent, who happen to be disproportionately impacted by poverty and who lack access to health care. Individuals with SCD are at high likelihood of high acute care utilization and chronic pain episodes. The multiple complications seen in SCD contribute to significant morbidity and premature mortality, as well as substantial costs to the healthcare system. **Objectives:** SCD is a complex chronic disease resulting in the need for primary, specialty and emergency care. Many providers do not feel prepared to care for individuals with SCD, despite the existence of evidence-based guidelines. We report the development of a SCD toolbox and the dissemination process to primary care and emergency department (ED) providers in North Carolina (NC). We report the effect of this dissemination on health-care utilization, cost of care, and overall cost-benefit. **Methods:** The SCD toolbox was adapted from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute recommendations. Toolbox training was provided to quality improvement specialists who then disseminated the toolbox to primary care providers (PCPs) affiliated with the only NC managed care coordination system and ED providers. Tools were made available in paper, online, and in app formats to participating managed care network practices (n=1 800). Medicaid claims data were analyzed for total costs and benefits of the toolbox dissemination for a 24-month pre- and 18-month post-intervention period. **Results:** There was no statistically significant shift in the number of outpatient specialty visits, ED visits or hospitalizations. There was a small decrease in the number of PCP visits in the post-implementation period. The dissemination resulted in a net cost-savings of \$361 414 (\$14.03 per-enrollee per-month on average). However, the estimated financial benefit associated with the dissemination of the SCD toolbox was not statistically significant. **Conclusions:** Although we did not find the expected shift to increased PCP visits and decreased ED visits and hospitalizations, there were many lessons learned.

Currently an increasing number of head mounted displays (HMD) for virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) are equipped with integrated eye trackers. Use cases of these integrated eye trackers include rendering optimization and gaze-based user interaction. In addition, visual attention in VR and AR is interesting for applied research based on eye tracking in cognitive or educational sciences for example. While some research toolkits for VR already exist, only a few target AR scenarios. In this work, we present an open-source eye tracking toolkit for reliable gaze data acquisition in AR based on Unity 3D and the Microsoft HoloLens 2, as well as an R package for seamless data analysis. Furthermore, we evaluate the spatial accuracy and precision of the integrated eye tracker for fixation targets with different distances and angles to the user (n=21). On average, we found that gaze estimates are reported with an angular accuracy of 0.83 degrees and a precision of 0.27 degrees while the user is resting, which is on par with state-of-the-art mobile eye trackers.

Purpose In the era of precision medicine, patient-specific dose calculation using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations is deemed the gold standard technique for risk-benefit analysis of radiation hazards and correlation with patient outcome. Hence, we propose a novel method to perform whole-body personalized organ-level dosimetry taking into account the heterogeneity of activity distribution, non-uniformity of surrounding medium, and patient-specific anatomy using deep learning algorithms. Methods We extended the voxel-scale MIRD approach from single S-value kernel to specific S-value kernels corresponding to patient-specific anatomy to construct 3D dose maps using hybrid emission/transmission image sets. In this context, we employed a Deep Neural Network (DNN) to predict the distribution of deposited energy, representing specific S-values, from a single source in the center of a 3D kernel composed of human body geometry. The training dataset consists of density maps obtained from CT images and the reference voxelwise S-values generated using Monte Carlo simulations. Accordingly, specific S-value kernels are inferred from the trained model and whole-body dose maps constructed in a manner analogous to the voxel-based MIRD formalism, i.e., convolving specific voxel S-values with the activity map. The dose map predicted using the DNN was compared with the reference generated using MC simulations and two MIRD-based methods, including Single and Multiple S-Values (SSV and MSV) and Olinda/EXM software package. Results The predicted specific voxel S-value kernels exhibited good agreement with the MC-based kernels serving as reference with a mean relative absolute error (MRAE) of 4.5 ± 1.8 (%). Bland and Altman analysis showed the lowest dose bias (2.6%) and smallest variance (CI: − 6.6, + 1.3) for DNN. The MRAE of estimated absorbed dose between DNN, MSV, and SSV with respect to the MC simulation reference were 2.6%, 3%, and 49%, respectively. In organ-level dosimetry, the MRAE between the proposed method and MSV, SSV, and Olinda/EXM were 5.1%, 21.8%, and 23.5%, respectively. Conclusion The proposed DNN-based WB internal dosimetry exhibited comparable performance to the direct Monte Carlo approach while overcoming the limitations of conventional dosimetry techniques in nuclear medicine.

On October 29th the workshop corresponding to the mid-term conference of BIM4EEB (Acronym of BIM Based Toolkit for Efficient rEnovation in Buildings, Horizon Project under grant agreement N. 820660 ) project was held during the Sustainable Places 2020 event. The main focus of the workshop was a general introduction of the project combined with vertical insights on the single tools that have been developed or are still in development. BIM4EEB grows from simple consideration: according to a BPIE analysis on EPC data, about 97% of building stock, currently not in A level, must be upgraded to achieve 2030 decarbonization objectives. As the biggest energy consumers, buildings consume about 40% of energy and they are responsible for 36% of CO2—they are strategic in order to reach the set of environmental goals and subjected to renovation and refurbishment during their lifecycle according to a specific schedule. Refurbishment becomes the crucial point of sustainability not only in construction but also in the environment in general for the coming years. The BIM4EEB project focuses on implementing a complete BIM (Building Information Modelling)-based toolkit to be adopted in the renovation of existing residential buildings to make the flow of information efficient, to enhance communication and data transfer decreasing intervention working time while improving building performances, quality, and comfort for inhabitants. The platform that controls all the tools developed for the best performance of renovation is BIMMS (Acronym of Building Information Modelling Management System platform), namely a management system linked to an operational and multifunctional toolkit for different AEC stakeholders, offering tools for increasing the adoption of BIM in renovation businesses based on an interoperable flow of information. During the workshop, six development tools have been explored in addition to the BIM Management System: BIM4EEB Fast Mapping of Buildings Toolkit, BIM4EEB BIMeaser tool, BIM4EEB BIM4Occupants tool, BIM4EEB Auteras tool, BIM4EEB BIMcpd tool, and BIM4EEB BIMPlanner tool

Synthetic biology is an advanced form of genetic manipulation that applies the principles of modularity and engineering design to reprogram cells by changing their DNA. Over the last decade, synthetic biology has begun to be applied to bacteria that naturally produce biomaterials, in order to boost material production, change material properties and to add new functionalities to the resulting material. Recent work has used synthetic biology to engineer several Komagataeibacter strains; bacteria that naturally secrete large amounts of the versatile and promising material bacterial cellulose (BC). In this review, we summarize how genetic engineering, metabolic engineering and now synthetic biology have been used in Komagataeibacter strains to alter BC, improve its production and begin to add new functionalities into this easy-to-grow material. As well as describing the milestone advances, we also look forward to what will come next from engineering bacterial cellulose by synthetic biology.

In response to COVID-19 stay-safe-at-home orders, the University of Minnesota Extension created and disseminated menu and shopping list toolkits for use by consumers and emergency food supply organi­zations. The menus were developed to use items commonly available from food pantries and small rural grocery stores. The menu and shopping toolkits have been useful to provide to consumers who are shelter­ing in place during the pandemic and may be useful to consumers and emergency food providers during other emergencies such as natural and human-made disasters that may limit access to food.

Objective The iWalk study showed significant increase in use of the 10-Meter Walk Test (10MWT) and 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) poststroke following provision of a toolkit. This paper examined the influence of contextual circumstances on use of the toolkit and implementation strategy across acute care and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings. Methods A theory-based toolkit and implementation strategy was designed to support guideline recommendations to use standardized tools for evaluation of walking, education, and goal-setting poststroke. The toolkit comprised a mobile app, video, and educational guide outlining instructions for 3 learning sessions. After completing learning sessions, 33 physical therapists and 7 professional leaders participated in focus groups or interviews. As part of a realist evaluation, the study compared and synthesized site-specific context-mechanism-outcome descriptions across sites to refine an initial theory of how the toolkit would influence practice. Results Analysis revealed 3 context-mechanism-outcomes: (1) No onsite facilitator? No practice change in acute care: Without an onsite facilitator, participants lacked authority to facilitate and coordinate the implementation strategy; (2) Onsite facilitation fostered integration of select practices in acute care: When onsite facilitation occurred in acute care, walk test administration and use of reference values for patient education were adopted variably with high functioning patients; (3) Onsite facilitation fostered integration of most practices in rehabilitation settings: When onsite facilitation occurred, many participants incorporated 1 or both tests to evaluate and monitor walking capacity, and reference values were applied for inpatient and outpatient education and goal setting. Participants preferentially implemented the 10MWT over the 6MWT because set-up and administration were easier and a greater proportion of patients could walk 10 m. Conclusion Findings underscore contextual factors and activities essential to eliciting change in assessment practice in stroke rehabilitation across care settings. Impact This study shows that to foster recommended walking assessment practices, an onsite facilitator should be present to enable learning sessions and toolkit use.

This paper introduces Squeezer, a tool for designing juicy effects inthe Unity game engine. Drawing upon inspiration from sound effect synthesizers and description languages, Squeezer can "synthesize" common types of juice effects, by combining simple effects into effect sequences. These effect sequences can be edited and executed even while playing the game in the editor, lowering iteration times and easing the exploration of effects. Background: The health risks faced by textile workers calls for a workplace health system that is comprehensive and accessible. To enhance the capacity of workplaces to strengthen their health system, a toolkit was developed by the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), a non-profit global business network and sustainability consultancy. Methods: The Health System Strengthening (HSS) toolkit was designed to provide a set of tools, resources, and concrete steps for the factory management and health staff to work toward continuous improvement of their on-site health systems. It was then implemented with academic collaboration simultaneously In three factories/ in three manufacturing units/ in three workplaces in South India over 6 months to find out its usefulness as a self-reference tool for HSS. Monitoring and evaluation tools and indicators were developed based on the logic framework. Results: The main outcomes of the HSS pilot program include the formation of a health committee which was able to utilize the modules, perform a self-assessment of the health system, and come out with short- and long-term action plans for HSS under expert supervision and guidance. Conclusions: Overall, the toolkit was found to be an effective solution for HSS in industries which require expert guidance for implementation.

The OAPEN Open Access Books Toolkit is a brand new free resource for researchers, created through a collaborative writing process by global and diverse members of the academic community and scholarly communications organisations. The toolkit aims to help authors better understand open access (OA) for books, to increase trust in OA book publishing, to provide reliable and easy-to-find answers to questions from authors, and to provide guidance in the process of publishing an OA book. The toolkit was developed in a series of workshops for authors, hosted by the university libraries at Oxford, Glasgow and Utrecht, in collaboration with Springer Nature and OAPEN. The idea for this toolkit came about in a Researcher to Reader workshop where discussions concluded that a trusted single resource was needed to tackle the lack of awareness and understanding amongst authors about OA book publishing, and common misconceptions about licensing and quality which form important barriers in the transition to OA books. This poster describes the content and layout of the toolkit, and the journey in developing it. We want the academic community to get involved by spreading the word about this toolkit and providing feedback for further development. The OAPEN Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that works with publishers to build a quality-controlled collection of open access books through the OAPEN Library and the Directory of Open Access Books, and provides services for publishers, libraries and research funders in the areas of deposit, quality assurance, dissemination, and digital preservation.

A simple yet efficient instrument-model refinement method for X-ray diffraction data is presented and discussed. The method is based on least-squares minimization of differences between respective normalized (i.e. unit length) reciprocal vectors computed for adjacent frames. The approach was primarily designed to work with synchrotron X-ray Laue diffraction data collected for small-molecule single-crystal samples. The method has been shown to work well on both simulated and experimental data. Tests performed on simulated data sets for small-molecule and protein crystals confirmed the validity of the proposed instrument-model refinement approach. Finally, examination of data sets collected at both BioCARS 14-ID-B (Advanced Photon Source) and ID09 (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) beamlines indicated that the approach is capable of retrieving goniometer parameters (e.g. detector distance or primary X-ray beam centre) reliably, even when their initial estimates are rather inaccurate.\udKeywords: data processing; Laue diffraction; instrument models; refinement; X-ray diffraction.

Supplemental digital content is available in the text., Objective Major gaps remain in our understanding of primary care patient safety. We describe a toolkit for measuring patient safety in family practices. Methods Six tools were used in 46 practices. These tools were as follows: National Health Service Education for Scotland Trigger Tool, National Health Service Education for Scotland Medicines Reconciliation Tool, Primary Care Safequest, Prescribing Safety Indicators, Patient Reported Experiences and Outcomes of Safety in Primary Care, and Concise Safe Systems Checklist. Results Primary Care Safequest showed that most practices had a well-developed safety climate. However, the trigger tool revealed that a quarter of events identified were associated with moderate or substantial harm, with a third originating in primary care and avoidable. Although medicines reconciliation was undertaken within 2 days in more than 70% of cases, necessary discussions with a patient/carer did not always occur. The prescribing safety indicators identified 1435 instances of potentially hazardous prescribing or lack of recommended monitoring (from 92,649 patients). The Concise Safe Systems Checklist found that 25% of staff thought that their practice provided inadequate follow-up for vulnerable patients discharged from hospital and inadequate monitoring of noncollection of prescriptions. Most patients had a positive perception of the safety of their practice although 45% identified at least one safety problem in the past year. Conclusions Patient safety is complex and multidimensional. The Patient Safety Toolkit is easy to use and hosted on a single platform with a collection of tools generating practical and actionable information. It enables family practices to identify safety deficits that they can review and change procedures to improve their patient safety across a key sets of patient safety issues.

Purpose Garment making by the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has existed for a long enough time to make the sewing culture a mainstream phenomenon today. It is thus essential to evaluate existing producers, the required information and the key requirements for production. This should consequently forge the way forward. Hence, the purpose of this study was to establish guidelines for the basic requirements as a means of operating garment mass production units in consideration of the unique economic, legal and social environment in Tanzania. Design/methodology/approach The study deployed a qualitative approach: interview sessions, questionnaires and observation together with the document review approach. A qualitative approach captured in-depth views, ideas and concepts from participants. Findings The study established the requirements for scaling up SMEs into mass production. The requirements include significant investment, well-planned strategies and an implementable industrialisation plan. The country also requires empowered workforces through the existing institutions, international collaborations with foreign investors, implementable policies, among others to excel in this sector. Research limitations/implications The identified information together with all factors is leading towards initiating textile-based industries. Thus, information resources concerning garment production in the Tanzanian context are suitable for both individuals and corporations intending to scale up their production. Originality/value This is probably among the first studies in Tanzania which explored the basic requirements for setting mass-production units for textile and apparel industries. The uniqueness relies on the involved participants from multi-perspective domains.

Increased migration has given rise to more advocacy efforts against female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C), legislation that criminalizes the practice, and guidance to the health sector for managing care of affected groups. More women and girls who have been cut or who are at risk of FGM/C are migrating from regions where it is common to countries where it is not and interacting with health professionals and other community practitioners in these host countries. Despite numerous studies on the negative health impacts of FGM/C, little is known about toolkits on FGM/C that providers can use in their prevention and response efforts. We sought to explore the nature of Internet-based products referenced as toolkits and materials characteristic of toolkits aimed at different service providers who may interact with women and girls affected by FGM/C. Through an online search, we identified 45 toolkits and collected data about each one. We found that the toolkits targeted different audiences and offered a diverse set of information and resources. The majority of toolkits were aimed at health professionals and provided factual and epidemiological-focused content, yet many did not include research evidence, skills development application, or approaches for implementing the toolkit in practice. This review is the first completed in the area of FGM/C to show a rich diversity of online materials. Future toolkits can be improved with the provision of evidence-based information and practical skills development for use by health professionals in implementing best practices in working with women and girls affected by FGM/C.

FORENSIC is an online platform to identify sources of fecal pollution without the need to create reference libraries. FORENSIC is based on the ability of random forest classification to extract cohesive source microbial signatures to create classifiers despite individual variability and to detect the signatures in environmental samples. We primarily focused on defining sewage signals, which are associated with a high human health risk in polluted waters. To test for fecal contamination sources, the platform only requires paired-end reads targeting the V4 or V6 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. We demonstrated that we could use V4V5 reads trimmed to the V4 positions to generate the reference signature. The systematic workflow we describe to create and validate the signatures could be applied to many disciplines. With the increasing gap between advancing technology and practical applications, this platform makes sequence-based water quality assessments accessible to the public health and water resource communities., Sewage overflows, agricultural runoff, and stormwater discharges introduce fecal pollution into surface waters. Distinguishing these sources is critical for evaluating water quality and formulating remediation strategies. With the falling costs of sequencing, microbial community-based water quality assessment tools are under development. However, their application is limited by the need to build reference libraries, which requires extensive sampling of sources and bioinformatic expertise. Here, we introduce FORest Enteric Source IdentifiCation (FORENSIC; https://forensic.sfs.uwm.edu/), an online, library-independent source tracking platform based on random forest classification and 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequences to identify in environmental samples common fecal contamination sources, including humans, domestic pets, and agricultural animals. FORENSIC relies on a broad reference signature database of Bacteroidales and Clostridiales, two predominant bacterial groups that have coevolved with their hosts. As a result, these groups demonstrate cohesive and reliable assemblage patterns within mammalian species or among species sharing the same diet/physiology. We created a scalable and extensible platform that we tested for global applicability using samples collected in distant geographic locations. This Web application offers a fast and intuitive approach for fecal source identification, particularly in sewage-contaminated waters. Background Alarming rates of unhealthy alcohol, non-prescription drug, and tobacco use highlight the preventable health risks of substance abuse and the urgent need to activate clinicians to recognize and treat risky use. Screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) is an efficacious and effective processes to identify, reduce and prevent risky use of substances. This paper describes a study protocol testing implementation of a toolkit to enhance use of SBIRT in acute care settings to recognize and address patient risky alcohol, drug, and tobacco use. Methods This study uses a phased cluster randomized mixed method design to test nurse-led implementation of an SBIRT toolkit on one medical-surgical unit at 14 acute care hospitals (critical access, community and academic health centers). Medical surgical units will be randomly assigned to implement the SBIRT toolkit (engagement and communication, assessment, planning, training, and evaluation tools) or a wait-list usual care control group that begins implementation 6 months later. Primary endpoints are documentation of SBIRT delivery in randomly selected electronic medical records at baseline, 6 months and 12 months after group 1 implementation (61 records per unit per time period, N = 2562). Two surveys will be administered to unit nurses: smoking cessation activities will be assessed at baseline and SBIRT use will be assessed on randomly-selected days after implementation. In addition, site coordinators will complete a baseline capacity assessment, an implementation fidelity survey post-implementation, and a structured interview at the end of the study. Multilevel mixed-effects effects logistic and linear models will be used to analyze use of SBIRT and cost outcomes. Discussion This study will guide subsequent SBIRT implementation, dissemination, and spread across rural, community and urban healthcare systems throughout the state and beyond. The long-term objective is to activate clinicians to recognize, intervene and refer people with risky substance use to improve health and decrease substance use disorders. ObjectiveA wide variety of methods are available to assess dietary intake, each one with different strengths and weaknesses. Researchers face multiple challenges when diet and nutrition need to be accurately assessed, particularly in the selection of the most appropriate dietary assessment method for their study. The goal of the current collaborative work is to present a collection of available resources for dietary assessment implementation.Design/Setting/ParticipantsAs a follow-up to the 9th International Conference on Diet and Physical Activity Methods held in 2015, developers of dietary assessment toolkits agreed to collaborate in the preparation of the present paper, which provides an overview of each toolkit. The toolkits presented include: the Diet, Anthropometry and Physical Activity Measurement Toolkit (DAPA; UK); the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Dietary Assessment Primer (USA); the Nutritools website (UK); the Australasian Child and Adolescent Obesity Research Network (ACAORN) method selector (Australia); and the Danone Dietary Assessment Toolkit (DanoneDAT; France). An at-a-glance summary of features and comparison of the toolkits is provided.ResultsThe present review contains general background on dietary assessment, along with a summary of each of the included toolkits, a feature comparison table and direct links to each toolkit, all of which are freely available online.ConclusionsThis overview of dietary assessment toolkits provides comprehensive information to aid users in the selection and implementation of the most appropriate dietary assessment method, or combination of methods, with the goal of collecting the highest-quality dietary data possible.

The Dissemination and Implementation Research Core, a research methods core from the Clinical and Translation Science Award at Washington University in St. Louis Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, developed toolkits about dissemination and implementation (D&I) concepts (e.g., D&I outcomes, strategies). This paper reports on the development of the toolkits. These toolkits respond to 3 identified needs for capacity building in D&I research: resources for investigators new to the D&I field, consolidation of tools, and limitations in local contexts.

Flooding is increasingly global challenge due to climate change and urban development practices. It can also be devastating to those affected. In the United Kingdom, it is projected that the number of people at high risk of flooding could rise from 1.5 to 3.5 million by 2080. Currently 400,000 homes and 75,000 businesses in England have an annual chance of flooding. In the UK, the Environment Agency provides useful information on flood risks for a given location. This information is supported with different guides by the local Councils on how to prepare for, and get help during flooding. What remains unclear and easy to access are customisable retrofit actions based on local flood risks, necessary for an individual or household to implement anticipatory retrofit actions, thereby improving the resilience of their homes. With this in mind, and knowing that studies about flood impacts focuses more on new construction or infrastructure solutions, this study aimed to provide a tangible solution to raise the awareness of people living in a flood area about the level of risk they are exposed to, and to aid decision-making about effective preventive solutions specifically designed for their house, in an autonomous way. The output is a decision-support tool developed to consolidate information about flood risks and present customised retrofit measures. The tool refers to the notions of damage and vulnerability of private housing to inform its operational diagnostic methodology. The output is a “to do list” of retrofitable work to increase resilience of the house against flood. 40 potential users evaluated and delivered positive feedback on the usefulness and functionality of the tool to raise awareness and improve resilience action. Future studies aim to fine-tune the tool and scale up the study.

The purpose of the article is to develop a model of the system of managerial diagnostics of the enterprise on the basis of the improvement of diagnostic purposes. The developed model of the system of managerial diagnostics of the enterprise is a set of subjects (owners, managers, investors, specialists, etc.), objects (management system), resources, technology, methods (a set of methods and means), business indicators and criteria (parameters) that, when interacting, provide the achievement (efficient and effective) of the diagnostic objectives of the system of the objectives of managerial diagnostics of the enterprise, taking into account the compliance of its competitive strategy of the state of the environment function of direct action (competitors, customers, suppliers, mediators, and other contact audiences) in the context of improving the efficiency and developing the management. It is determined that the system of goals of the model of the system of managerial diagnostics of the enterprise (taking into account the ensuring of the compliance of the system of management with strategic goals and tactical tasks) form the following key diagnostic objectives that require improvement on the basis of business indicators (parameters), namely: 1) diagnostics of the effectiveness of controlling the internal business processes of the enterprise; 2) diagnostics of the effectiveness of the typical organizational structure of enterprise management; 3) diagnostics of the efficiency of standardization of the work of linear and functional managers and specialists at the enterprise; 4) diagnostics of the enterprise in the areas of vocational education, labor activity and motivation, innovation work and social development; 5) diagnostics of the level of conflict in the team at the enterprise; 6) diagnostics of efficiency of use of information technologies in the management of the enterprise. The prospect of further research in this area is to improve the complex system of diagnostics of certain elements, spheres and types of activity of enterprises, taking into account the presented research results.

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the theoretical positions and to develop practical recommendations for improving the diagnostics of anti-crisis management of the enterprise in the system of managerial diagnostics. It is revealed that the specificity of crisis management of the enterprise (as a special diagnostic purpose of the system of management diagnostic purposes) is related to: 1) the strategy of anti-crisis management, which includes the prevention of crisis and the strategy to overcome the crisis; 2) the need for complex management decisions (functioning, development) in the conditions of limited financial and informational resources, high general level of uncertainty of the environment (displaying various events and aspects) and risk, etc. It is established that the diagnostics of anti-crisis management in the enterprise in the system of managerial diagnostics should include: 1) the study of basic business indicators (parameters) of production and economic activity of the enterprise; 2) comprehensive in-depth analysis of the influence of factors (internal, external) on the state of the enterprise (financial and economic, technical and technological); 3) expert valuation of the developed measures and prospects for financial rehabilitation and preventive sanation, as well as an assessment of the achievement of forecasting goals. The prospect of further research in this field is the development of a system of goals of economic diagnosis (diagnostics of activity) of the enterprise (institution, organization) taking into account the presented results of the study and the graphical interpretation of the improvement of the effectiveness of the anti-crisis management enterprise in the system of managerial diagnostics.

Background Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) impact patients’ lives through prolonged hospitalization, morbidity, and death, resulting in significant costs to both health systems and society. Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are two of the most preventable HAIs. As a result, these HAIs have been the focus of significant efforts to identify evidence-based clinical strategies to reduce infection rates. The Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) provides a formal model for translating CLABSI-reduction evidence into practice. Yet, a national demonstration project found organizations experienced variable levels of success using CUSP to reduce CLABSIs. In addition, in Fiscal year 2019, Medicare will expand use of CLABSI and CAUTI metrics beyond ICUs to the entire hospital for reimbursement purposes. As a result, hospitals need guidance about how to successfully translate HAI-reduction efforts such as CUSP to non-ICU settings (clinical practice), and how to shape context (management practice)—including culture and management strategies—to proactively support clinical teams. Methods Using a mixed-methods approach to evaluate the contribution of management factors to successful HAI-reduction efforts, our study aims to: (1) Develop valid and reliable measures of structural management practices associated with the recommended CLABSI Management Strategies for use as a survey (HAI Management Practice Guideline Survey) to support HAI-reduction efforts in both medical/surgical units and ICUs; (2) Develop, validate, and then deploy the HAI Management Practice Guideline Survey, first across Ohio hospitals, then nationwide, to determine the positive predictive value of the measurement instrument as it relates to CLABSI- and CAUTI-prevention; and (3) Integrate findings into a Management Practices Toolkit for HAI reduction that includes an organization-specific data dashboard for monitoring progress and an implementation program for toolkit use, and disseminate that Toolkit nationwide. Discussion Providing hospitals with the tools they need to successfully measure management structures that support clinical care provides a powerful approach that can be leveraged to reduce the incidence of HAIs experienced by patients. This study is critical to providing the information necessary to successfully “make health care safer” by providing guidance on how contextual factors within a healthcare setting can improve patient safety across hospitals.

Background Following a neurological event, people’s long-term health and well-being is hampered by a system that struggles to deliver person-centred communication and coordinated care and fails to harness individual and family capability to live well with the condition. We aimed to implement and evaluate a toolkit package to support these processes for people with long-term neurological conditions. Methods This is a multi-phased study drawing on the principles of participatory research. In this pilot phase, the toolkit package was introduced to clinicians, who introduced it to clients in four neurorehabilitation settings (inpatient and community-based). Individual and focus group interviews were carried out with clients (n = 10) and clinicians (n = 9). Data were categorised by the four components of Normalisation Process Theory (NPT), and data within each component was then coded inductively. This analysis was used to inform revisions to the toolkit package and wider implementation processes. Results There was widespread support for the principles underpinning the toolkit package from clients and clinicians. However, it was less clear how the client toolkit could support these principles in clinical practice which impacted buy-in. The flexibility of use of the client toolkit, which we encouraged, made it difficult for clinicians and clients to be clear about its purpose and for clinicians to operationalise in practice. Clinicians and clients identified a number of barriers that limited the time, energy and work users were able or prepared to invest, to the extent that uptake of the toolkit package was modest. Use of the toolkit package appeared more likely when clinicians perceived it to augment existing processes (e.g. goal setting) rather than detract from ‘doing’ therapy. This analysis was used to inform revisions to the toolkit package, including simplification of the client toolkit, development of videos with examples of use and a modular and reflective training package for clinical services. The refinements were intended to improve sense-making and minimise the cognitive barriers associated with implementation of a new intervention. Conclusion Understanding how supporting the client toolkit could add value to the therapeutic encounter was necessary for clinicians to invest time and perceive the worth of the toolkit package. BackgroundPatient experience surveys (PESs) often include informative free-text comments, but with no way of systematically, efficiently and usefully analysing and reporting these. The National Cancer Patient Experience Survey (CPES), used to model the approach reported here, generates > 70,000 free-text comments annually.Main aimTo improve the use and usefulness of PES free-text comments in driving health service changes that improve the patient experience.Secondary aims(1) To structure CPES free-text comments using rule-based information retrieval (IR) (‘text engineering’), drawing on health-care domain-specific gazetteers of terms, with in-built transferability to other surveys and conditions; (2) to display the results usefully for health-care professionals, in a digital toolkit dashboard display that drills down to the original free text; (3) to explore the usefulness of interdisciplinary mixed stakeholder co-design and consensus-forming approaches in technology development, ensuring that outputs have meaning for all; and (4) to explore the usefulness of Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) in structuring outputs for implementation and sustainability.DesignA scoping review, rapid review and surveys with stakeholders in health care (patients, carers, health-care providers, commissioners, policy-makers and charities) explored clinical dashboard design/patient experience themes. The findings informed the rules for the draft rule-based IR [developed using half of the 2013 Wales CPES (WCPES) data set] and prototype toolkit dashboards summarising PES data. These were refined following mixed stakeholder, concept-mapping workshops and interviews, which were structured to enable consensus-forming ‘co-design’ work. IR validation used the second half of the WCPES, with comparison against its manual analysis; transferability was tested using further health-care data sets. A discrete choice experiment (DCE) explored which toolkit features were preferred by health-care professionals, with a simple cost–benefit analysis. Structured walk-throughs with NHS managers in Wessex, London and Leeds explored usability and general implementation into practice.Key outcomesA taxonomy of ranked PES themes, a checklist of key features recommended for digital clinical toolkits, rule-based IR validation and transferability scores, usability, and goal-oriented, cost–benefit and marketability results. The secondary outputs were a survey, scoping and rapid review findings, and concordance and discordance between stakeholders and methods.Results(1) The surveys, rapid review and workshops showed that stakeholders differed in their understandings of the patient experience and priorities for change, but that they reached consensus on a shortlist of 19 themes; six were considered to be core; (2) the scoping review and one survey explored the clinical toolkit design, emphasising that such toolkits should be quick and easy to use, and embedded in workflows; the workshop discussions, the DCE and the walk-throughs confirmed this and foregrounded other features to form the toolkit design checklist; and (3) the rule-based IR, developed using noun and verb phrases and lookup gazetteers, was 86% accurate on the WCPES, but needs modification to improve this and to be accurate with other data sets. The DCE and the walk-through suggest that the toolkit would be well accepted, with a favourable cost–benefit ratio, if implemented into practice with appropriate infrastructure support.LimitationsSmall participant numbers and sampling bias across component studies. The scoping review studies mostly used top-down approaches and focused on professional dashboards. The rapid review of themes had limited scope, with no second reviewer. The IR needs further refinement, especially for transferability. New governance restrictions further limit immediate use.ConclusionsUsing a multidisciplinary, mixed stakeholder, use of co-design, proof of concept was shown for an automated display of patient experience free-text comments in a way that could drive health-care improvements in real time. We introduce the IoT Un-Kit Experience, a co-design approach that engages people in exploring, designing and generating personally meaningful IoT applications and that also serves as a means to explore IoT kit design through in-home workshops. Un-Kit represents a seemingly uncompleted set of sensors, actuators and media elements that have a decontextualized appearance - unfinished state, undefined purpose and unboxed form. The approach emphasises users contemplating and experiencing the IoT elements in their familiar space through detailed and layered conversation with researchers; rather than focusing on connecting up the kit itself, thus their ideas are not constrained by the kit or their competence with it. We illustrate the approach through in-home workshops with older adults, envisioned users of IoT who have had limited voice in its conception. The Un-kit approach supported participants to lead the process and to imagine new artfully integrated designs, with personally legible interactions and aesthetic qualities that fit their desire. We offer insights for a more situated and responsive approach to design of the IoT and its constituent kits.

Squeeze interaction, defined as squeezing a soft object that affects computed feedback, is a promising interaction technique due to its expressive character. Skweezee for Processing is a Processing library that allows makers to im- plement squeeze interactions in a lightweight manner. The library offers a set of features based on data extraction al- gorithms and aims to preserve the dynamics of squeezes in the mapping from user action to system output. Distribut- ing Skweezee for Processing as an open source library, we invite the community to further investigate the potential of squeeze interactions and to contribute to the extension and improvement of the library. We emphasize the potential for rich squeeze interaction by demonstrating a game that implements squeeze interaction as core mechanic. Addi- tionally, we demonstrate the ease of implementing squeeze interactions in a variety of settings using the Skweezee for Processing library. INTRODUCTION: We propose AudioVisual User Interfaces (AVUI), a novel type of UI linking interaction, sound and image. It extends the concept of Graphical User Interface (GUI) by adding interconnected sound and image.\ud \ud OBJECTIVES: We aim to situate AVUIs in relation to identified relevant fields: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), sonic interaction design, cognitive psychology and audiovisual art, and to identify benefits of AVUIs in the context of those fields.\ud \ud METHODS: In this research, we combine literature review of related concepts with a user-centered design methodology, involving a community of audiovisual artists and performers.\ud RESULTS: We contextualize AVUI within the identified fields and identify benefits for the implementation of AVUIs in relation to those fields.\ud \ud CONCLUSION: These results can contribute to the further adoption of AVUIs by the HCI community, particularly those interested in multisensory experience involving sound and image.

The mentoring kit for a mentoring program provides the mentors with the necessary resources and tools to help to mentees and teams to understand, apply and integrate their strengths in their respective roles. The tools of the kit offer a working model with the mentee to develop an effective strategy that improves his/her performance through development based on strengths. One of the most effective methods for managing and developing talent within students are mentoring programs. These programs provide a vehicle in which knowledge and wisdom is shared while creating an environment for learning and growth. Novice mentors could benefit from a toolkit to help structure effective mentoring programs. This article describes such a toolkit to provide mentors with the necessary resources and tools to help mentees and teams to understand, apply and integrate their strengths in their respective roles. The objectives of this toolkit are: 1. Deliver models and structures so that the mentee has the ability to: - Develop transformational, theoretical and experiential learning processes. - Develop, evaluate and optimize your resources to function with greater creativity, prominence, leadership and proactivity. 2. Stimulate the development of skills that provide innovative perspectives. 3. Learn to apply the tools and skills acquired in the educational field to: - Understand and diagnose situations in context. - Develop intervention plans with his/her mentor adjusted to the needs and expectations of themselves. - Generate spaces for the identification of barriers and conflicts in his/her processes. - Stimulate actions to overcome challenges or opportunities. – Effective accompaniment of the mentees to reach their goals. Additionally, the tools included in the kit offer a working model for the mentee to develop an effective strategy that improves his/her performance through development based on strengths. This article presents the importance of the use of mentoring tools, under the guidelines of the mentoring toolkit design. This paper reflects simple tools that can be used in a systematic way so that in the mentoring process the participant can perform the most difficult task of all, that of investigating themselves and at the same time the mentor can count on valuable data to be able to facilitate the work. Future research will focus on the evaluation of the toolkit.

Serious concerns about the way research is organized collectively are increasingly being raised. They include the escalating costs of research and lower research productivity, low public trust in researchers to report the truth, lack of diversity, poor community engagement, ethical concerns over research practices, and irreproducibility. Open science (OS) collaborations comprise of a subset of open practices including open access publication, open data sharing and the absence of restrictive intellectual property rights with which institutions, firms, governments and communities are experimenting in order to overcome these concerns. We gathered two groups of international representatives from a large variety of stakeholders to construct a toolkit to guide and facilitate data collection about OS and non-OS collaborations. Ultimately, the toolkit will be used to assess and study the impact of OS collaborations on research and innovation. The toolkit contains the following four elements: 1) an annual report form of quantitative data to be completed by OS partnership administrators; 2) a series of semi-structured interview guides of stakeholders; 3) a survey form of participants in OS collaborations; and 4) a set of other quantitative measures best collected by other organizations, such as research foundations and governmental or intergovernmental agencies. We opened our toolkit to community comment and input. We present the resulting toolkit for use by government and philanthropic grantors, institutions, researchers and community organizations with the aim of measuring the implementation and impact of OS partnership across these organizations. We invite these and other stakeholders to not only measure, but to share the resulting data so that social scientists and policy makers can analyse the data across projects.

This work, framed in the IEA SHC Task 51 “Solar Energy in Urban Planning”, presents an illustrative perspective of solar energy in urban planning through the analysis of 34 international case studies conducted in 10 countries. The aim here is to examine challenges, barriers and opportunities for active solar systems and passive solar strategies by taking into consideration interrelated technical and non-technical aspects in ongoing and completed projects. It focuses on exposing potential pitfalls and illustrating lessons learned in case studies divided into three categories: (i) existing urban areas, (ii) new urban areas, and (iii) solar landscapes. The analysis has yielded insights into the solar energy strategy adoption, the evaluation of solar energy production, solar irradiation and daylighting, and the architectural quality, sensitivity and visibility of the solar systems for urban planning. The outcomes have implications to stimulate successful practices in implementing solar strategies in urban planning and facilitating their replicability worldwide by avoiding common mistakes. © 2019 The Authors. The cyber security toolkit, CyberSecTK, is a simple Python library for preprocessing and feature extraction of cyber-security-related data. As the digital universe expands, more and more data need to be processed using automated approaches. In recent years, cyber security professionals have seen opportunities to use machine learning approaches to help process and analyze their data. The challenge is that cyber security experts do not have necessary trainings to apply machine learning to their problems. The goal of this library is to help bridge this gap. In particular, we propose the development of a toolkit in Python that can process the most common types of cyber security data. This will help cyber experts to implement a basic machine learning pipeline from beginning to end. This proposed research work is our first attempt to achieve this goal. The proposed toolkit is a suite of program modules, data sets, and tutorials supporting research and teaching in cyber security and defense. An example of use cases is presented and discussed. Survey results of students using some of the modules in the library are also presented.

Objective To (A) explore perspectives of people with a long-term neurological condition, and of their family, clinicians and other stakeholders on three key processes: two-way communication, self-management and coordination of long-term care; and (B) use these data to develop a ‘Living Well Toolkit’, a structural support aiming to enhance the quality of these care processes. Design This qualitative descriptive study drew on the principles of participatory research. Data from interviews and focus groups with participants (n=25) recruited from five hospital, rehabilitation and community settings in New Zealand were analysed using conventional content analysis. Consultation with a knowledge-user group (n=4) and an implementation champion group (n=4) provided additional operational knowledge important to toolkit development and its integration into clinical practice. Results Four main, and one overarching, themes were constructed: (1) tailoring care:referring to getting to know the person and their individual circumstances; (2) involving others: representing the importance of negotiating the involvement of others in the person’s long-term management process; (3) exchanging knowledge: referring to acknowledging patient expertise; and (4) enabling: highlighting the importance of empowering relationships and processes. The overarching theme was: assume nothing. These themes informed the development of a toolkit comprising of two parts: one to support the person with the long-term neurological condition, and one targeted at clinicians to guide interaction and support their engagement with patients. Conclusion Perspectives of healthcare users, clinicians and other stakeholders were fundamental to the development of the Living Well Toolkit. The findings were used to frame toolkit specifications and highlighted potential operational issues that could prove key to its success. Further research to evaluate its use is now underway.

Against the backdrop of a dramatic increase in citizen science activity worldwide, we convened a combined symposium and focus group at the 2014 International Marine Conservation Congress to consider the challenges and opportunities for mobilizing citizen science in the marine and coastal environment. Highlighting the diversity of existing models and approaches to citizen science, participants focused on six different conservation-related outcomes that citizen science projects can potentially support: policy, education, community capacity building, site management, species management, and research. We provide two example case studies of projects and summarize the key themes and recommendations associated with each of those outcomes. The result is a series of “toolkits” that can help to guide new and existing citizen science projects that aim to support management and conservation of ocean resources, as well as providing insights and recommendations to stimulate further research on and assessment of marine and coastal citizen science programs. Citizen science is an effective approach to conservation and it is time for this underutilized resource to become a more prominent approach for marine and coastal conservation.

The general line of research is concerned with development of information technologies and computer simulation tools for management information and analytical support of complex semistructured systems. Regional socio-economic systems are considered as a representative of this system type. Investigation is carried out within the bounds of development strategy implementation of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and national safety until 2020 in the Murmansk region, specifically under engineering of high end information infrastructure for innovation and security control problem-solving of regional development. Research methodology consists of system dynamics modeling method, distributed information system engineering technologies, pattern-based modeling and design techniques. The work deals with development of toolkit for decision-making information support problem-solving in the field of innovation security management of regional economics. For that purpose a system-dynamic models suite of innovation process standard components and information technology for remote formation and control of innovation business simulation models under research have been developed. Designed toolkit provides innovation security index dynamics forecasting and innovation business effectiveness of regional economics. Information technology is implemented within the bounds of thin client architecture and is intended for simulation models design process automation of complex systems. Technology implementation software tools provide pattern-based systemdynamic models distributed formation and simulation control of innovation processes. The technology provides availability and reusability index enhancement of information support facilities in application to innovation process simulation at the expense of distributed access to innovation business simulation modeling tools and model synthesis by the reusable components, simulating standard elements of innovation processes. The distinctive feature of the developed technology is system-dynamic pattern description translation into XML-format. That gives the possibility for autonomous model application (without modeling environment). Proposed working-out results are domain-independent and are usable for modeling systems engineering for different knowledge domains.

The Integrated Nutrition Pathway for Acute Care (INPAC) is an evidence and consensus based pathway developed to guide health care professionals in the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition in medical and surgical patients. From 2015 to 2017, the More-2-Eat implementation project (M2E) used a participatory action research approach to determine the feasibility, and evaluate the implementation of INPAC in 5 hospital units across Canada. Based on the findings of M2E and consensus with M2E stakeholders, updates have been made to INPAC to enhance feasibility in Canadian hospitals. The learnings from M2E have been converted into an online toolkit that outlines how to implement the key steps within INPAC. The aim of this short report is to highlight the updated version of INPAC, and introduce the implementation toolkit that was used to support practice improvements towards this standard.
