Previous research has revealed higher career adaptivity leads to higher career adaptability from between-person perspective. However, the construction of career adaptability is dynamic rather than static, so how career adaptivity influences episode-level career adaptability from a within-person perspective is critical but unknown. Drawing on career construction theory, we examined how future orientation, considered part of career adaptivity, influences weekly career adaptability. One wave of between-person data (N = 97) and four waves of within-person data (repeated measures) were collected from undergraduates in a Chinese university. The results found that future orientation positively predicted weekly career adaptability, and weekly future work self-mediated the relationship between them. Loneliness negatively moderated the relationship between future orientation and weekly future work self and further negatively moderated the indirect effect of weekly future work self between future orientation and weekly career adaptability. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the government export assistance moderate the relationship between strategic capabilities (i.e. innovation, market-linking, marketing, technology, and management capabilities) and export performance Manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: This study used a quantitative approach. Data was obtained via online questionnaires and physical distribution to respondents. Hypothesis testing was analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) technique. Findings: Results showed that the moderator strengthens the relationship between strategic capabilities and export performance if the SMEs use financing assistance provided by the government. Scholars' opinions diverge on the relationship between a firm's negative attainment discrepancy and its international expansion. To reconcile the dispute, we draw upon the behavioral theory of the firm and develop an empirical framework that integrates the perspectives of problemistic search, experiential learning, and vicarious learning. We contend that a firm's search behavior is jointly influenced by its performance feedback and accumulated (both direct and indirect) experience. Specifically, the international experience of the focal firm or its peers plays an important role in triggering the firm's internationalization process by shaping the direction of problemistic search: a firm is more likely to pursue international expansion as a solution for performance shortfalls if it (or its peers) possesses more general experience or successful experience in foreign markets. Analysis on longitudinal data (2011-2019) from publicly listed Chinese firms supports our hypotheses. This study makes theoretical contribution on firm internationalization literature and the behavioral theory of the firm, and provides a practical insight into firms' strategic decision-making process. When cross-border acquisitions take place, whose institutional logics should dominate the control in the daily operation of the acquired entity--the acquirer or the acquiree? To answer this question, this paper investigates how Geely, a Chinese automaker, successfully acquired Volvo from Sweden, a developed country, and managed the differences in the institutional logics of the two firms by transforming its dominant institutional logic. Through the lens of matching theory, we employ an inductive approach and conduct a longitudinal case study of Geely's acquisition. We find that matching commercial and social logic is an inevitable requirement to cope with external institutional pressures in cross-border acquisitions. We further reveal that the structured interaction between compatibility and complementarity facilitates the matching process between commercial logic and social logic, resulting in a synergistic logic via the three different mechanisms of compatibility, complementarity, and co-evolution. Our findings challenge previous research that focuses on conflicts as the foremost drivers of the transformation of different institutional logics in organizations. Based on our findings, we develop a matching process model that offers insights for firms from developing economies to navigate dominant institutional logic transformation and thrive in the marketplace through their strategic cross-border acquisitions. Purpose: Due to the recent global supply chain disruption, employee's productivity has become the main concern for organisations. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the employees' motivational factors namely reward, leadership and employee empowerment to their productivity. Design/methodology/approach: This study distributed the standardised structured questionnaires via social media with 150 usable responses collected. The non-probability purposive sampling is employed due to the targeted respondents. The usable data then be analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling. Findings: The findings show that reward and employee empowerment are positively affecting productivity. Besides that, employee empowerment also found the greatest effect among all the motivational factors to the productivity. Research limitations: Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the data collection must be conducted through an online platform which may not be able to capture the general perceptions of employees. Practical implications: Organisations are suggested to empower their employees with the involvement in decision-making projects. Also, organisations should be giving non-financial incentives to reward their employees. Finally, the management may highlight the direction of the organisation in the leadership campaign. With the suggestions, this study aims to increase the organisations' productivity and eventually to the better organisations' performance. Originality/value: This study contributed to identifying the motivational factors among the employees in the post Covid-19 pandemic and adds value to the organisations' performance (productivity) to ensure a firmer recovery from Covid-19 pandemic. To better understand how CEO confidence influences emerging market multinational enterprises' (EMNEs) internationalization, on the basis of upper echelons theory, we use a sample of panel data of listed companies in China from 2008 to 2018 and find that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between CEO confidence and internationalization. We also explore the boundary conditions that moderate the effects of CEO confidence on EMNEs' internationalization through analysing the unique roles of the market and government in emerging economies. The research results show that market dynamism steepens the inverted U-shaped relationship, while government subsidies flatten the inverted U-shaped relationship. Our findings contribute to the upper echelons perspective of the internationalization of firms from emerging economies. The phaseout of methyl bromide (MB) fumigation creates an urgent need for an alternative phytosanitary treatment to limit the risk of international spread of the oak wilt fungus, Bretziella fagacearum. Fumigation with ethanedinitrile (EDN) is considered a potential alternative to MB fumigation to eradicate wood-inhabiting pests and pathogens. We evaluated the efficacy of EDN fumigation by comparing the rate of B. fagacearum isolation before and after fumigation of red oak (Quercus rubra or Quercus ellipsoidalis) log sections from oak wilt--affected trees. Logs (range 15.2 to 98.0 cm long; diameter 9.1 to 46.1 cm) were obtained from red oak trees that were naturally infected (NI) or artificially inoculated (AI) with B. fagacearum. The logs were fumigated for 24, 48, and/or 72 hours with 120 g/[m.sup.3] EDN. Frequencies of pathogen isolation from the sapwood before treatment were higher for AI logs than for NI logs. EDN treatments greatly reduced the frequency of viable pathogen recovery, but eradication occurred only in experiments using the smallest log diameters (9 to 14 cm). Our results suggest that EDN may have limited penetration in oak logs with intact bark, similar to fumigants currently used on wood products, such as MB and sulfuryl fluoride. The identification of the tree species and the extent of material deterioration in the wooden components of the walkway of the first courtyard of the ancient Yangjia Courtyard were analyzed in this study using bright-field microscopy, polarized light, fluorescence, and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy methods. The results are as follows: (1) samples No. 1 and No. 2, and No. 4, No. 3, and No. 5 taken from the roots of the wooden pillars were identified as lace-bark pine wood (Pinus bungeana), poplar woods (Populus spp.), large-fruited elm wood (Ulmus macrocarpa), and spruce wood (Picea sp.), respectively on the basis of observation of anatomical structural characteristics and analysis of selection principle of 'local selection' in ancient buildings. (2) The observation of polarization and fluorescence and the analysis of FTIR spectra showed that the brightness of crystalline cellulose birefringence reduced severely, and analysis of FTIR spectra showed that the absorption peaks representing cellulose and hemicellulose in the lace-bark pine and spruce wooden components disappeared or decreased. However, the polarization and fluorescence and the FTIR spectra of the poplar and elm wooden components showed that the brightness of the crystalline cellulose birefringence and the absorption peaks remained constant, as the controls did. (3) According to the results of the effects of the polarization and fluorescence effects and the FTIR spectra, we concluded that the lace-bark pine and spruce wooden components were severely attacked by brown rot fungi; in contrast, the wooden components of poplar and elm were not attacked by wood decay fungus, but were attacked by insects. Drawing on institutional theory, this study investigates how institutional pressure can affect digital platform risk. Specifically, it examines whether two types of institutional pressure--domestic market e-commerce policy uncertainty and foreign market e-commerce policy uncertainty--affect the perceived digital platform risk for international new ventures (INVs) and its relationship with their scope of internationalization. The recent crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has further impacted this new phenomenon, thus we examine its effects on the relationships between/among domestic and foreign market e-commerce policy uncertainties, digital platform risk, and the internationalization scope of INVs. We conduct four waves of a survey to test the Covid-19 effects as well as to minimize common method bias, analyzing the final sample of 394 responses from 260 Chinese INVs using structural equation modeling. The results show that domestic and foreign market e-commerce policy uncertainties positively affect the digital platform risk for INVs, with foreign market e-commerce policy uncertainty having a stronger positive impact. Moreover, we find that the Covid-19 pandemic interacts asymmetrically with the relationship between domestic vs. foreign market e-commerce policy uncertainty and the digital platform risk for INVs. In addition, the pandemic strengthens the negative relationship between digital platform risk and the internationalization scope of INVs. To investigate the decay extent of wooden components in the ancient buildings of Danxia Temple, the absorption peak intensities, changes in chemical components, and cellulose crystallinity of red oak (Quercus sp.), birch (Betula sp.), and maple (Pterocarya sp.) wooden components were determined and analyzed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The results are as follows: (1) The absorption peak intensities representing cellulose and hemicellulose decreased or disappeared obviously in the decayed red oak wood (DROW); on the contrary, those representing lignin increased. The indexes of the content of cellulose, hemicellulose, and cellulose crystallinity also decreased; on the contrary, those of the content of lignin increased. Those results indicated that cellulose and hemicellulose in DROW were largely degraded by brown-rot fungi. (2) The absorption peak intensities representing cellulose and hemicellulose decreased both in the decayed birch wood (DBW) and the decayed maple wood (DMW), whereas those representing lignin increased. The indexes of the content of cellulose, hemicellulose, and cellulose crystallinity also decreased, whereas those of lignin increased. Those results showed that cellulose and hemicellulose in DBW and DMW were seriously harmed not only by insects but also by brown-rot fungi. Although trademarks are mentioned in many firms' initial public offering (IPO) prospectuses, their influences on the IPO valuation process are underexplored. This paper studies the relationship between a firm's pre-lPO trademarks and its IPO underpricing. Using 4457 US IPOs during the period 1980-2018, we find that firms with a larger number of trademarks prior to the IPO date experience significantly less IPO underpricing. We employ a quasi-natural experiment brought about by the 1996 Federal Trademark Dilution Act and an instrumental variable approach to establish causality. Our findings suggest that trademarks help reduce information asymmetry among various IPO participants, leading to less underpriced IPOs. In 2018 and 2019, U.S. tariffs on imports from other countries rose significantly, particularly on imports from China. Although higher tariffs may raise costs for both foreign and domestic firms, recent studies suggest most of the burden fell on U.S. businesses and consumers due to higher prices and fewer imports. But tariffs do not affect all categories of goods evenly, nor do all households spend the same share of their income on tariff-affected goods. Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis), an apt example of an anisotropic, functionally graded composite material, is the most important commercial bamboo species of China. This species has excellent mechanical properties due to its unique vascular bundle structure. This article examines the variation in mechanical properties of single vascular bundles with respect to their location within a bamboo culm. The mechanical exfoliation method was used to prepare the single vascular bundle. This study found that moso bamboo has superior stiffness and strength. Additionally, the variation in properties was large in the radial direction but minimal in longitudinal direction. The large variation in mechanical properties of vascular bundles can be ascribed to the synergistic effect of the fibrous sheath and parenchyma rather than to changes in fibrous sheath properties. In order to investigate the decay mechanism in red oak (Quercus rubra) and Schima {Schima spp.) wood in the ancient building of Xichuan Guild Hall, the changes in chemical composition were determined using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. The results were as follows: (1) The absorption peak intensities that represented the structural contribution of carbohydrates, and the crystallinity index of the cellulose in the red oak components, decreased noticeably by 55.70 percent in H1039/H1508, and 26.85 percent in H1370/H2900: while those of lignin were increased as a result of the brown rot process. These changes indicated that the brown-rot fungi had stronger degradation effects on hemicellulose and cellulose over lignin. (2) The absorption peak intensities of the carbohydrates (a part of the lignin) and the crystallinity index of the cellulose decreased noticeably by 22.50 percent in H1039/H1508, 25.00 percent in H1508/H1735, and 21.74 percent in H1429/H897 after white rot in the Schima wood components. This research aimed to investigate the compressive fracture behavior and the compressive strength parallel to the grain in relation to moisture contents (MC) below and above the fiber saturation point (FSP) in Calamus simplicifolius cane. FSP of the rattan was investigated using a dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) apparatus, and the fracture behaviors of compression parallel to grain were analyzed by three-dimensional X-ray microcomputed tomography. The study indicated that the value of FSP derived from the DVS method was 25 percent. The average compressive strength parallel to the grain was found to be 39 MPa at 3 percent MC, 30 MPa at 10 percent MC, 17 MPa at 12 percent MC, 12 MPa at 27 percent MC, and 10 MPa at 45 percent MC. The strains of the yield and densification stage were prolonged with increasing MC, whereas the stress in the linear elastic stage decreased with increasing MC. The cracks of the rattan core and the deflection angle at higher MC were larger than that of low MC. Below the FSP, the compressive failure of the rattan showed a shear band oriented around 45[degrees] to the loading axis, and the surface was rough. Above the FSP, the rattan samples showed brooming failure. The interface among fiber bundles was delaminated and the fiber surface in the failure area was smooth.
