This theoretical perspective sets out a theoretical foundation for the use of classical character archetypes in character development methodologies. It covers four reimagined classical archetypes: "citizen" ("polites"), one who plays socially responsible roles, "egoist" ("idiôtes"), one who plays prudent and individually responsible roles, "conformist" ("doulos"), one who plays fearing, childish, and conforming roles, and "brute" ("barbaros"), one who plays pretentious and brutal roles. The article also briefly compares these archetypes to some existing modern character archetypes in, for example, modern classical literature, psychology, political economics, and business theory.

The American cultural and political landscape has seen changes on the level of seismic shifts in the past four decades, thanks in part to the two very diverse fields of big business and biotechnology. Linking the two arenas together in the literary landscape is a growing body of young adult science fiction that envisions a future shaped profoundly by both. This paper surveys how the interplay between corporations and biotechnology is represented in this emerging body of work to explore diverse facets of a common theme: the biotechnical subjection of human matter to market force.

America's subprime mortgage crisis of 2007 spiraled into a global financial crisis in 2008. For much of the year, attention was riveted on the presidential primaries. A worsening economy made the election somewhat anticlimactic, but everybody rejoiced with the choice of the first "international" President. With stocks tumbling and major firms seeking billion-dollar bailouts, the impact on reference publishers was particularly gloomy, with many reducing staff and limiting new projects. This was evident at conferences like the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting, where publishers and vendors unveiled fewer new products, instead focusing on breathing new, Web 2.0-friendly life into existing ones. The acquisition of Greenwood by the family-owned ABC-CLIO caught many by surprise. SAGE's acquisition of CQ Press, on the other hand, was less surprising, since much of the publishers' content complements rather than competes. On the e-reference front, 2008 saw a proliferation of products in less-treated categories, including much-needed ventures into popular culture via Greenwood's outstanding--and Dartmouth Medal-winning--Pop Culture Universe and the still--growing field of women's studies via Adam Matthews Digital's amazingly legible microfilm collection, Perdita Manuscripts 1500-1700. Reflecting the astonishing diversity of the subjects covered in last year's reference gems, the list presented in this article is organized by subject to help facilitate collection development practices. Similarly, because consideration of formats is no longer an afterthought but an integral part of librarianship, information about alternative formats is made more prominent throughout.

This study examined the association of gender-role orientation to creative accomplishments and cognitive styles in 127 college students. Results indicated that the gender role orientation of instrumentality was positively associated with creative accomplishments in the business venture domain and that androgynous, versus non-androgynous, individuals were more creatively productive in the domains of literature, theater, and video-photography. Objective: The objective of this article is to systematically analyse the current academic research on refugee entrepreneurship in Europe and beyond. Refugee entrepreneurship represents a burgeoning area of study that has become increasingly significant following the European migrant crisis in 2015 and the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. We seek to determine how studies on refugee entrepreneurship differ in their theoretical approaches and methodologies from traditional research on immigrant and ethnic entrepreneurship. Research Design & Methods: The study adopts a systematic literature review method to identify and analyse key articles which discuss refugee entrepreneurship. We analysed the content of 75 academic publications to get a deeper understating of the research methods, and theoretical approaches, analysed ethnic groups, and destination countries and the key findings. Specifically, we explore how the current literature portrays the latest wave of Ukrainian refugees in the European Union. Findings: Our study reveals that research on refugee entrepreneurship is still in its early, predominantly exploratory stages. Most of the articles we reviewed were empirical, with a distinct preference for qualitative methods. A significant limitation of existing research is its static analysis; most studies were cross-sectional, which fails to capture the dynamic nature of entrepreneurial activities. Furthermore, our review highlights a clear dichotomy in the circumstances of refugees displaced within Europe – primarily Ukrainians and those from the Balkans – compared to those originating from the Middle East or African countries. Implications & Recommendations: We advocate for a more comprehensive approach to the study of refugee entrepreneurship, particularly through longitudinal analyses that can track changes within refugee-owned firms and the evolving attitudes of refugees towards entrepreneurship. We also recommend further investigation into the interactions between refugees and economic migrants, especially those from the same country or those who speak a similar language and share cultural ties. Such interactions could influence the evolution of opportunity structures in the destination countries, potentially leading to the creation of ethnic enclaves. Contribution & Value Added: We contribute to the existing literature on refugee entrepreneurship by identifying key researchers and most cited articles, and by discussing the evolution and adaptation of the most popular theoretical approaches used in these studies.

This paper provides a critical review of the climate university literature. Higher education institutions have increased their climate initiatives among students and society. Climate changes is becoming more and more present in daily activities. Whether it is about carbon dioxide emissions or deforestation, the social and economic consequences of climate change are challenging for each country in the world. Of all the institutions, universities play the most important role in educating people regarding the negative effects of climate change. While some universities use their own resources for this cause, others write plans and attract European projects to fund climate change objectives. The aim of this paper is to review the latest insights on Climate University. For this purpose, the paper analysed a database of scientific papers extracted from the Web of Science. The results underline the decisive role that higher education institutions play in promoting the fight against the causes of climate change. Society must understand the challenges of climate change and further develop solutions to address them. The new insights offered by this paper may be worthwhile for different stakeholders interested in climate change issues.

Organisational absurdity is an emerging field of study in management sciences. Often described in conceptual terms in the existing literature as a loss of meaning arising from the collapsing frontiers of rationality, there have been few attempts to engage empirically with this absurdity, particularly from the perspective of new recruits joining organisations, and more specifically those who have recently completed their studies. Our research seeks to explore the ways in which young graduates respond to organisational absurdity and its consequences. To do this, we use an original empirical approach, which has been recognised elsewhere as a pertinent means of tackling absurdity, namely, fictional analysis. We thus propose an analogy between today’s young graduates and the young Romantics of the 19th century, invoking a number of literary references for heuristic ends, in order to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon in question. Now as in centuries past, upon coming face-to-face with absurdity, a considerable number of young people respond by retreating from their professional responsibilities. This state of affairs is illustrated by a series of 35 interviews, revealing a profound sense of disenchantment, which, in many cases, can lead young professionals to turn inwards and withdraw from their professional environments. In the face of this distress, our research invites organisations to rethink the way they manage young graduates.

Purpose – this study aims to thoroughly investigate by reviewing previous literature on risk assessment queries for robo-advisors, comparing it with three existing robo-advisors and proposing suitable risk assessment questions for robo-advisor. Research methodology – utilize the deductive content analysis technique to examine the risk assessment issue for financial robo-advisors, which is influenced by previous study. Findings – there are nine questions share a similar context both in previous literature and among existing robo-advisors, with income being the most commonly used question. Then, there are three questions that are only asked by the existing robo-advisors: emergency funds, home ownership, and the source of transaction. These findings suggest some additional questions to enhance the effectiveness of risk assessment in robo-advisory services for individuals. Research limitations – only two previous research papers have focused on risk profiling, and three available applications used in this research. Practical implications – the robo-advisor’s developer should take into account various factors such as local culture and economic conditions, financial product knowledge, etc. when crafting diverse risk profiles to provide more precise investment recommendations. Originality/Value – the study is the first research which explore the risk profiling for financial robo-advisor, which used by existing robo-advisor then compared to other countries in the world.

This conceptual paper explores the surprising impact exerted by third elements on the escalation and de‐escalation of conflicts in business families. To this end, we draw on core concepts of Batesonian cybernetic theory to perform a reconceptualisation of pertinent literature on changing conflict dynamics gathered in family business research and consultancy. Based on this reconceptualisation, we identify explanations and key mechanisms for the impact of third elements on conflict dynamics. It discusses the evolving role of literature reviews as essential tools in a research process, their methodological intricacies, and their contribution to shaping the landscape of management studies. Through a thorough examination of their merits, limitations, and best practices, our article sheds light on how literature review articles serve as valuable resources for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in the field of management. In addition, the article points towards opportunities for using AI tools, for example Google Colab, ChatGPT, Methods Wizards, or Petal for single or multiple stages and tasks of structured literature analyses. This piece argues that the philosophical bedrock of conventional social science, including political economy, is a collection of over-aestheticized platitudes (viz., “the great books of the West”), whose common thread is, for the most part, a utilitarian and tritely moralistic appreciation of the human condition and human behaviour in general. in the search for an alternative poetic phenomenology, it is here proposed that the fiction of Leonardo Sciаscia (1921–1989) might be a more promising platform. method. Social scientists would be better off taking their literary cues from the Sicilian writer, whose insights on the physiology of power are here, as a result, subdivided and analyzed in the following sections: the elevation of “Sicily” to a standard categorization of modern societies; a typological description of woman and men; the facelessness of Mass-Man; the functionalism of the Mafia; society and power, Justice; fictional narrative; and theology. conclusion. Economists are interested in the work of Leonardо Sciascia when studying the problems of the incoming criminalization of the economy and the curtailment of the state (for example, in terms of issuing money), as well as the further merging of economic elites (oligarchy) with state power (plutocracy).

Scholarly debate about world literature often relegates non-fiction as secondary to fiction. This article argues that non-fiction is as important as fiction, and uses the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award as a case study. Although the FT award focuses on business, it has a wider cultural impact influencing academia, global media, and literature. After seventeen years, the award's consistent quality of longlisted books has created a canon that has genuine literary value. My analysis of the award demonstrates that the finalists and winners have been concentrated in terms of author's country of work, author's profession, and primary subject. This concentration can be partly explained by the dominance of the US in the publishing of business books as well as by the mechanics of the award's selection process. The FT award also prompts a discussion about the merits of a literary award that embraces both fiction and non-fiction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Samples of works from the literature, history and business collections of a university library were searched in the LibraryThing (LT) social cataloging platform. Match rates were obtained, and the subject headings and LT tags of matching titles recorded. The tags were then compared across the three fields. Finally, the nature of those tags representing new concepts was analyzed. Findings suggest that literature and history are much more represented on LT than is business, but that even for this field LT covers over half the library's materials. While the amounts of tagging for literature, history and business were likewise very different, and the amounts that added retrieval value equally, or perhaps even more so, it was clear that access even to business titles could be greatly enhanced by social cataloging, when it was applied. Scientific research is the first step in preparing for master's thesis and doctoral dissertations. It is associated with the orientation of students and preferences that have been shown during basic studies, as well as the sense of doing scientific work. In addition to the methodology of scientific research and the field of master's thesis or dissertation, students should be familiar with both research techniques, fieldwork, and to acquire the necessary skills that will enable them to have extensive professional employment opportunities after the master's or dissertation completed. In this regard, it should be pointed out that the importance of scientific research is not measurable, not only for the preparation and writing of master papers and dissertations, but for further professional engagement.

In the context of economic development, business negotiations gain more attention from theboth, researchers and business people. While researchers are trying to concatenate negotiationswith other areas, businessmen are interested in gathering as much information as possible aboutstrategies they might use in relationships with partners. Following the model proposed by Agndal (Agndal, 2007), regarding negotiation analysis, thispaper aims to identify main research elements from the context areas by analyzing 31 peerreviewed articles published between 1994 and 2017, and 12 books. It results a synthesis of themain elements to be considered for a successful negotiation.

To the casual reader, Agatha Christie’s fiction seems to be saturated by a deeply conservative culture and supportive of the capitalist status quo. There is indeed some evidence in Christie’s prose that she identified with conservatism. Yet despite her leanings she adopted a critical stance on the world of business. She repeatedly depicted financiers as criminals, even murderers, during the inter-war years and later, in the post-war period, blurred the line between businesses and criminal conspiracies. Christie also used the crookedness of business to provide capitalism’s victims with a motive for murder. The article explains the gap between Christie’s political views and her portrayal of business by arguing that Christie’s fundamental task was to fashion dystopias. In so doing she regarded it as more important to capture the spirit of the times than to propagandise in ways which matched her allegiances. Thus Christie’s engagement with private enterprise provides a valuable snapshot of a society more critical of capitalism and, particularly between the wars, more ready to consider alternatives to it, than is the case in contemporary society.

Data is becoming an increasingly important asset in today’s organizations. Various challenges in the age of big data, such as high volume and high velocity, call for efficient database maintenance policies. This study focuses on deriving an optimal synchronization policy for consolidated database systems. By trading off synchronization cost with data staleness cost, we propose a time-based dynamic synchronization (TDS) policy, which evaluates the system state at predetermined checkpoints and synchronizes a consolidated database system only if given staleness thresholds are crossed. Although several database synchronization and knowledge refreshment policies have been proposed in the prior literature, the TDS policy retains their advantages and overcomes their inflexibility in that, under the TDS policy, system check and synchronization are easy to schedule, disruptions to business operations can be avoided, and synchronization is run only if necessary. Experimental results show that the TDS policy consistently outperforms benchmark policies, leading to substantial cost savings. In particular, the performance gap between the TDS policy and a static periodic policy is greater when data changes arrive less frequently but carry higher unit staleness costs, or when queries arrive more frequently and suffer higher unit staleness costs. Within this article, I explore how consumer activists use the petition site Change.org to successfully resist and challenge corporate business practices. Bringing together literature from communication, political science and consumer behaviour, and using case studies of two successful campaigns, I trace a process of online consumer activism where the comments of individuals pursuing personal publicity aggregate to attract negative media attention to a brand, leading to subsequent corporate behaviour change. This process of online consumer activism illustrates a dynamic interplay between online spaces of participation, personal publicizations and the formation of identities for both consumers and companies, furthering our understanding of how online spaces are being used for digital anti-corporate activism.
