Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a “Q&A interview” conducted by Joanne Pransky of Industrial Robot Journal as a method to impart the combined technological, business and personal experience of a prominent, robotic industry engineer-turned entrepreneur regarding his pioneering efforts in starting robotic companies and commercializing technological inventions. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The interviewee is Jack Morrison, CEO and Co-Founder, Scythe Robotics. Morrison shares how he and his co-founders started this innovative company, the milestones and challenges he’s faced and his long-term goals. Findings Morrison received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science and German from Bowdoin College. He attended The George Washington University as a PhD student in Computer Science but left to co-found Replica Labs, a producer of software that turns any mobile phone into a high-quality 3D scanner. Morrison served as Replica’s CTO until it was acquired by Occipital in 2016, where he stayed on as a computer vision engineer until co-founding Scythe Robotics in April 2018. Originality/value While mowing his lawn in Colorado, Jack Morrison had a sudden insight: what if he could apply the latest robotics technology he was so familiar with to the challenge of commercialized landscaping? In 2018, Morrison teamed up with Replica Labs co-founder Isaac Roberts and Occipital’s Davis Foster, to create Scythe Robotics, a company that builds autonomous robotics solutions for the $105bn commercial landscaping industry. In June 2021, Scythe Robotics emerged from stealth with over $18m in funding with its first commercial product: a transformational, all-electric, fully autonomous mower designed to keep crew productivity high while also increasing the quality of cut and worker safety. The machine features eight high dynamic range cameras and a suite of other sensors that enable it to operate safely in dynamic environments by identifying and responding to the presence of humans, animals and other potential obstacles. Simultaneously, the machine captures valuable property and mower performance data, which helps landscape contractors improve workflow, identify upsell opportunities, schedule more efficiently and manage labor costs. The all-electric powertrain is quiet, emissions-free and radically more reliable than gas-powered manual mowers. Scythe Robotics’ business model is based on Robot as a Service. Instead of buying machines outright, customers are billed by acres mowed. This massively reduces contractors’ expenses and eliminates substantial costs. Scythe Robotics is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado and has offices in Vero Beach, FL and Austin, TX. Scythe is the recipient of the 2020 ALCC (Associated Landscape Contractors CO) Innovation Winner and the 2021 Colorado OEDIT Advanced Industries Grantee.

A review of the book “Gaming AI” by the famous American author, economist and co-founder of the Discovery Institute, George Gilder, in which he argues that Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot think like a man, but can change conditions of a human jobs. Therefore, he expects that in the future AI will be controlled by a man in those types of jobs that are routine and mechanical, as well as help him/her in creativeness.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the intracranial lesions eroding the calvarium and presenting as bony swellings of the scalp. This kind of presentation is usually rare. This is because intracranial tumours usually manifest early with focal neurological deficits, seizures or features of raised intracranial pressure. Only a few patients, in whom the intracranial lesions, despite being present for a long duration, do not have neurological manifestations but erode the overlying bone and may present as bony swellings of the scalp. We studied the clinical presentation of such lesions, analysed their radiological and histological characteristics. METHODS This is an observational study from October 2018 to September 2020. A total of thirteen cases were studied in the Department of Neurosurgery, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. After clinical examination, an appropriate diagnostic workup was done, and all the cases were taken up for surgery. The clinical behaviour and histopathological features of the lesions were analysed. RESULTS In our study of thirteen cases, the most common cause of an intracranial lesion presenting as bony scalp swelling is meningioma which comprised almost 53.8 %, the second most common lesion is secondaries. Others included fibrous dysplasia and malignant small blue round cell tumour. CONCLUSIONS Intracranial lesions eroding the bone and presenting as scalp swellings are rare. In our study, the spectrum of these scalp swellings has ranged from benign lesions like meningioma to malignant lesions like secondary deposits. He was awarded the 2017 IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award for the best power engineer under 35. He is the founding chair of IEEE PES Subcommittee on Big Data & Analytics for Grid Operations. Dr. Chanan Singh is Irma Runyon Chair Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and a Foreign Fellow of Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering. He is a Fellow of IEEE. He received the inaugural IEEE-PES Roy Billinton Power System Reliability Award. He received the 1998 Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award given by the IEEE Power Engineering Society. Dr. Sanjoy K. Mitter joined MIT in 1969 where he has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering since 1973. He was the Director of the MIT Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems from 1981 to 1999. Dr. Mitter was elected a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and IFAC. He is the winner of the 2000 IEEE Control Systems Award. In 1988, he was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Munther A. Dahleh is the founding Director of MIT’s Institute for Data Systems and Society, and the William A. Coolidge Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He is a four-time recipient of the George Axelby outstanding paper award for best paper in IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. He is also the recipient of the Donald P. Eckman award from the American Control Council in 1993 for the best control engineer under 35. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of IFAC. Dr. Shmuel S. Oren is Professor of the Graduate School and the Earl J. Isaac Professor in the Science and Analysis of Decision Making in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the University of California at Berkeley and former Chairman of that department. He is a co-founder and the Berkeley site director, of PSerc—a multi-university Power Systems Research Center since 1996. He has also been a member of the California ISO Market Surveillance Committee. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of INFORMS and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering.

BACKGROUND Ruptured ectopic is a life threatening obstetric emergency. Obstetrician must have a high index of suspicion for ectopic pregnancy and should be aware of importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the incidence, clinical presentation, risk factors, treatment and morbidity associated with ectopic pregnancy. METHODS Retrospective analysis of ectopic pregnancy was done in King George Hospital, Visakhapatnam from January 2020 to December 2020 in the department of OBG. The following parameters: Age, risk factors, clinical presentation, site of ectopic, diagnostic methods, mode of treatment were noted. RESULTS A total of 63 cases were reported during this time frame. It is a tertiary care centre getting referrals from nearby districts and other hospitals. Incidence of ectopic pregnancy in the present study is 0.89 %. 41.26 % of patients belonged to age group between 26 to 30 years. Out of 63 cases 49.20 % were multigravida. 28 % of the cases were associated with previous H/O abortions and 23 % of the cases were associated with PID and in 17.4 % of the cases there was no predisposing factors. 96.82 % the patients presented with pain abdomen. Shock in 34.92 % of the cases. Ampulla is the most common site of ectopic. In 76 % of the cases there was hemoperitoneum > 500 ml. Salpingectomy was done in 79.3 % cases. 84 % of cases required blood transfusion > 1 unit. There was no mortality. CONCLUSIONS Ectopic pregnancy is one of the obstetric emergency with significant morbidity and mortality. PID and post abortal sepsis are one of the important risk factors for ectopic pregnancy. As many patients may not have recognizable risk factors, a high index of suspicion is critical for early diagnosis. Early USG diagnosis of ectopic pregnancies reduces mortality and enables us to offer the patient conservative medical and surgical treatment. KEYWORDS Ectopic Pregnancy, TVS, Ampulla, Salpingectomy

The present paper is an attempt to answer Bernard Williams' classical dilemma of George the chemist, who is asked by a senior colleague to partake in a CBW research program. Both George and the colleague oppose the research, and George is advised not to publicize his attitude for George to get the job instead of someone more eager. On the one hand, George does not want to be involved in the research, yet on the other hand, he does not want to allow it to be completed faster. The author views George's potential actions as sabotage and argues that since the existing ethical codes demand putting safety ahead of the pressures of the employers, sabotage should not be out of the question. CBW endangers entire communities, and thus secretly sabotaging its research amounts to disaster prevention and should be considered a professional duty by consequentialists and deontologists alike, even if it may involve deception and furthermore deception about deception.

The Beaux’ Stratagem is a phenomenal play in all measures. Since its first performance on stage in 1707, it has proved that its magnetic appeal to audiences of different periods has never lost its charm. It ever continues providing gusts of laughter and a profound debate of everlasting sensitive issues on stage. This study endeavors to unravel the factors behind its magnetic appeal, at the same to shed light upon the comic devices standing behind its unprecedented success. The Beaux’ Stratagem was written at a time when the early attraction of wit, risqué language, rakish behavior of gallants, and exposure of female frailties have been worn out and lost their magnitude. At the dawn of the 18th Century, the theater-goers were fed up with the Comedy of Manners, Farce, and Intrigues. and looking for something different. More possibly, Farquhar made out that the audience wanted to feel rather than to think; thus he curbed a natural bent toward wit and tried to engage a more sentimental side in his plays. However, the Beaux’ Stratagem did not completely split with the traditions common during the declining period; it blended them with the new overriding vogues of sentimental and exemplary comedy. As a result, Farquhar’s play came out as an amazing hybrid, coupling the two norms into one design, and producing a dramatic admixture that sounds more typical and better than the ones encountered in the plays of his predecessors and contemporaries.

There is a rich and increasing body of research pointing to the significant role that elite women played in property management during the eighteenth century. In this article we examine the contribution of an elite widow, Barbara Savile, to the management of her son Sir George Savile’s extensive landholdings in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire from 1700 until her death in 1734. We establish that Barbara Savile had a deep understanding of estate business and was a shrewd judge of character, expertise on which both Sir George and his stewards relied. She scrutinised account books, commissioned surveys for rental reassessment, was instrumental in the negotiation of wood contracts and was closely involved in the practical management of many aspects of tree and woodland management.

The war of the currents between Thomas Edison and George West inghouse didn't end in 1893 at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, when Westinghouse received the contract for producing the electricity to illuminate the entire exposition using his doublestopper light bulbs powered by ac. Edison, being a strong advocate and main promoter for the generation and transmission of power using dc, continued to develop and expand its use in large cities with steam powered, coalfired, central powergenerating stations. These stations initially utilized dc generators driven by reciprocating steam engines. On 17 December 1880, he established the Edison Illuminating Company to build his generating stations, beginning with projects in New York City. To provide support for his business interests, he hired a young, businessminded gentleman from England as his personal secretary. This gentleman was Samuel Insull, who would become directly involved in all matters related to Edison's power companies [2], [3].

This article explores the question of what happens when highly socialized and contingent forms of provisioning go wrong, and young men are forced to start again in unfamiliar urban contexts. The decline of George Mirembe's moneylending business in Kampala pre-empted his departure from the country and his arrival in Nairobi in search of new socio-economic opportunities. Lacking the documents and language skills necessary to enter formal sectors of the economy, George claimed asylum as a sexual refugee while working as a smuggler and a voice actor in the shadow film industry. His activities illustrate the advantages and limitations of the hustle as a framework for understanding the activities of transnational ‘others’ in African cities. I argue that translational practices of acting and storytelling have become a generalized tactic of survival among migrants in urban East Africa. Such practices are illustrative of a form of ‘uprooted hustle’ – or hustling on the move – that is oriented towards individual survival and exit rather than place-based transformation.

Objectives: Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a widely used modality in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). Siena EVAR and St.George Vascular Institute (SGVI) scores are risk scores to predict possible EVAR related reinterventions. This study was aimed to validate the risk scores and compare the predictivity of the scoring systems for hospital cost-effectiveness in our population.Materials and Methods: 39 patients with unruptured infrarenal AAA, including both elective and non-elective admissions which had a follow-up period from at least 6 months are included in our study. Siena EVAR score and SGVI score are calculated. The relation of the complications (adjuncts at the index operation, reinterventions during follow up), costs (index procedure and overall), aneurysm related mortality are compared among the risk groups. Results: In our study, SGVI score had a predictivity among high and low-risk groups involving reinterventions during follow up, cost on index operation and mortality (P < 0.05). Siena EVAR score had no significant predictivity (p > 0.05). Conclusion: A high-risk value in SGVI score must warn the surgeon to reassess the treatment option for AAA. If EVAR is indicated the health care providers and assurance system can count on a higher cost on index operation, a higher risk of reintervention and mortality during long term follow up.

This article closely examines the song ‘The Rains of Castamere’, from the television series Game of Thrones (2011–19), to draw broader conclusions about how ‘medieval’ music manifests in contemporary popular culture and how music for television has become increasingly important in the last few decades. This article argues for the relevance of ‘The Rains of Castamere’ in popular music from three perspectives: first, as a musical adaptation of the ‘medieval’ world of 'folk’ music popularised in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels (1996–); second, as a song embedded in the rich tradition of modern ‘medieval’ music, which itself is a modern reconstruction influenced by cinematic and literary tropes; and lastly, as a track that exemplifies the influence of fan culture in both shaping and responding to popular medievalist music.

The Morandi Bridge (formally known as the Polcevera Viaduct) was more than just a critical part of the infrastructure of Genoa, Italy; it was part of the fabric of the city itself. When the bridge partially collapsed on Aug. 14, 2018, 43 people died, leaving a town and a country devastated. Costing more than 200 million euros ($234.8 million) for construction, the replacement structure, christened the Genoa-Saint George Bridge, has set new standards in efficiency for a project of its size and complexity.

An example of the East–Freeman Automatic Vent from Oxford was found in the early anaesthesia equipment collection at St George Hospital, Sydney. It weighs less than 200 g and is representative of a group of miniature ventilators that were described in the 1960s, including the Minivent from South Africa and the Microvent from Canada. All relied on a pressure-operated inflating valve that was described in 1966 by Mitchell and Epstein from Oxford. The ventilators were compact, portable and were powered by the gas supply from the anaesthesia machine or other driving source that distended a reservoir bag. The main problem was that they could stick in the inspiratory phase. This led to pressure in the lungs rising towards the driving pressure. There was a risk of barotrauma to the patient if the system was not promptly disconnected. While theyhad provided an alternative to hand bagging, they were superseded, as more sophisticated and safer ventilators became widely available.

BACKGROUND Oral malignancy is one of the commonest cancers in Asian countries. The incidence of oral cancer in India is 28 per one lakh population. The commonest site of oral cancer in India is buccal mucosa (>70%). Every year there is an incidence rate of 30 per one lakh worldwide and ten per one lakh in India. METHODS This is a hospital based, retrospective, cross sectional study, conducted in a tertiary care hospital attached to Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, from May 2017 to September 2019 on 30 cases. RESULTS Buccal mucosa is the most common site of oral malignancies (53.34%). The peak age of incidence is 30 - 55 years in this study. Male to female ratio in this study group is 2.75:1. The habit of smoking and chewing tobacco is in about 70% cases, making it the most common addiction habit among the cases in this study, followed by pan masala, betel nut chewing, and alcohol. Low socioeconomic status is commonly associated with oral cancers. The majority of cases presented as ulceroproliferative lesions (80%) in this study. CONCLUSIONS Oral cancer is a national problem. Oral cancer remains a challenge as the majority of the patients reported in advanced stages. Micrographic excision and alternate forms of therapy such as cryo, electro, chemo, and photodynamic therapy for smaller lesions and wide excision along with advanced reconstructive procedures have made surgery the anchor in management. Radiotherapy is another important modality of treatment as its side effects reduced with the invention of radio sensitizers and radio protectors. Adjuvant-chemo, concomitant-chemo, and radiotherapy are useful in advanced disease. Immunological agents such as Gefitinib and Erlotinib are in use. Effective multi-modality management has come into use with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy reducing the morbidity in oral cancers.

In her 1856 review of Browning’s Men and Women George Eliot highlights lines about the poet’s powers of observation as he “stood and watched the cobbler at his trade” and “took such cognizance of men and things.” As a novelist she shows similar powers, and such glimpses of life and work can be found throughout her fiction in the margins of the main action, from the handloom weaver seen through a window in the first of the Scenes of Clerical Life, through Dorothea’s famous view from her window of rural figures in the dawn in Middlemarch, to the small boy in fancy dress in the opening scene of Daniel Deronda. These and similar scenes involve a shift of attention away from the principal characters that may serve different purposes but is an intrinsic feature of her realism and its power to surprise us into new insight and understanding.

The concept of spinal cord injury has existed since the earliest human civilizations, with the earliest documented cases dating back to 3000 BC under the Egyptian Empire. Howevr, an understanding of this field developed slowly, with real advancements not emerging until the 20th century. Technological advancements including the dawn of modern warfare producing mass human casualties instigated revolutionary advancement in the field of spine injury and its management. Spine surgeons today encounter "Chance" and "Holdsworth" fractures commonly; however, neurosurgical literature has not explored the history of these physicians and their groundbreaking contributions to the modern understanding of spine injury. A literature search using a historical database, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and PubMed was performed. As needed, hospitals and native universities were contacted to add their original contributions to the literature. George Quentin Chance, a Manchester-based British physician, is well known to many as an eminent radiologist of his time who described the eponymous fracture in 1948. Sir Frank Wild Holdsworth (1904-1969), a renowned British orthopedic surgeon who laid a solid foundation for rehabilitation of spinal injuries under the aegis of the Miners' Welfare Commission, described in detail the management of thoraco-lumbar junctional rotational fracture. The work of these 2 men laid the foundation for today's understanding of spinal instability, which is central to modern spine injury classification and management algorithms. This historical vignette will explore the academic legacies of Sir Frank Wild Holdsworth and George Quentin Chance, and the evolution of spinal instability and spine injury classification systems that ensued from their work.

Lake George (NY) is surrounded by Forever Wild Forest in the Adirondack Park and has a Class AA Special water quality rating, yet lake monitoring has revealed increasing anthropogenic impacts from salt and nutrient loading over the past 30 years. To reconstruct anthropogenic influence on the lake (e.g., salt loading, eutrophication, climate warming), we characterized modern stable isotopes and testate amoeba and diatom assemblages in surface sediments from 33 lake-wide sites and compared their variability to 36 years of water-quality data. Linear regression analyses support testate amoebae as rapid responders and recorders of environmental change because taxa are strongly correlated with percent change of important water quality parameters. Our assessment indicates that: 1) Netzelia gramen is associated with aquatic plants and filamentous algae, making them a valuable aquatic plant/alga indicator, which is supported by the co-occurrence of the diatom Cocconeis spp.; 2) difflugids are generally good indicators of eutrophication, except for Difflugia protaeiformis; and 3) seasonal differences in water quality trends are reflected in the fossil record on decadal time scales. We show that testate amoebae are highly sensitive to small environmental changes in an oligotrophic lake and exhibit established relationships from eutrophic and mesotrophic lakes as well as new, likely oligotrophic-specific correlations. Correlation coefficients of water quality variables and strains within a species also illustrate gradational relationships, suggesting testate amoebae exhibit ecophenotypic plasticity. Diatom and testate amoeba assemblages categorize modern lakebed sites into four subgroups: 1) benthic macrophyte; 2) high nutrient; 3) high alkalinity; and 4) salt loading assemblages.

The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of a traditional market revitalization program in Jember Regency. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The object of research is the Head of Infrastructure Facilities, staff working at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Assistant Treasurer as manager of the Mangli Market in Jember Regency. Data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the research finding, George Edward III's theory is not fully able to describe the phenomenon in the field. George Edward III only explained that the success of the policy implementation process was determined by 4 variables namely communication, resources, disposition and bureaucratic structure. The phenomenon in the field shows that the variable resources consist of budgetary resources, human resources and infrastructure resources. These three resources are not discussed in George Edward III's theory. Therefore the theory of George Edward III had limitations as an analytical tool.

The comic-book artist Carl Barks was one of the most-read writers during the years after the Second World War. Millions of children took in his tales of the Disney characters Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge. Often set in the Global South, Barks's stories offered pointed reflections on foreign relations. Surprisingly, Barks presented a thoroughgoing critique of the main thrust of U.S. foreign policy making: the notion that the United States should intervene to improve “traditional” societies. In Barks's stories, the best that the inhabitants of rich societies can do is to leave poorer peoples alone. But Barks was not just popular; his work was also influential. High-profile baby boomers such as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas imbibed his comics as children. When they later produced their own creative works in the 1970s and 1980s, they drew from Barks's language as they too attacked the ideology of modernization.

Using Leicester's de-industrialized St George's area as a case-study, this article discusses three projects, all of which involved an academic team, including urban historians, working with a range of non-academic partners, in order to uncover the history and heritage of this part of the city in order to support the regeneration of the area. The first two of these projects leveraged digital media to engage public audiences, while the third used a more ‘traditional’ set of interpretation panels, removing the requirement for specific technology in order to access information as they passed along the street.

One of the landmark architectural advances of the twentieth century was the first automobile plant constructed of steel-reinforced concrete, an achievement that heralded the use of a revolutionary building technology for the largest and fastest-growing new industry in the United States. Numerous sources credit architect Albert Kahn with that first concrete auto plant as a result of his 1905 design for the Packard Motor Car Company's Building No. 10. However, as Michael G. Smith demonstrates in The First Concrete Auto Factory: An Error in the Historical Record, the Cadillac Motor Car plant in Detroit, designed by architect George D. Mason, preceded Packard No. 10. Moreover, Julius Kahn, Albert's brother, oversaw the engineering and construction of both the Cadillac plant and Packard No. 10, making essential contributions to both that have gone unrecognized until now. Smith describes how this significant error in the historical record came about and remained uncorrected even as researchers and writers pursued the subject.

EARLY LIFE George Hogarth Pringle, later an associate of Joseph Lister, was born in Kintail, Scotland in 1830. In 1854, he worked as a dresser at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh with Joseph Lister. After serving in the Crimean War, he settled in New South Wales and began practice in Parramatta. PRINGLE AND ANTISEPTIC SURGERY In October 1867, Pringle performed the first operation in Australia using the antiseptic principles advocated 6 months previously in the first of a series of articles published in The Lancet by Joseph Lister. Mystery surrounds how Pringle was able to adopt Lister's principles so quickly. Lister and Pringle had been friends in Edinburgh and previous writers have hypothesized that the two men corresponded whilst another has suggested Pringle was using antiseptic principles prior to Lister's work being published. Both these scenarios are unlikely. The Lancet appears to have been available in Australia within 4 months of publication. CONCLUSION The conjunction of an appropriate case and the arrival of a recent copy of The Lancet highlighting Lister's work is the likely source of Pringle's decision to apply antiseptic principles.

In this empirical, qualitative study, Teach For America (TFA) corps member teachers’ lives are examined through the lens of George Posner’s seven “frame factors,” namely, (a) temporal, (b) physical, (c) cultural, (d) economic, (e) organizational, (f) political-legal, and (g) personal, which offer insight into the contextualized TFA experience from induction at Corps Training Institute (CTI) through the 2-year TFA teaching commitment. Hundreds of corps member responses to these frame factors and external mandates were coded and analyzed, using unpublished categories developed by Barone, with particular attention to the developmental time line of one’s educational platform on TFAers’ professional practice.

This study examined whether killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor by current or former law enforcement officers in 2020 were followed by shifts in public sentiment toward Black people. Methods: Google searches for the names “Ahmaud Arbery,” “Breonna Taylor,” and “George Floyd” were obtained from the Google Health Application Programming Interface (API). Using the Twitter API, we collected a 1% random sample of publicly available U.S. race-related tweets from November 2019–September 2020 (N = 3,380,616). Sentiment analysis was performed using Support Vector Machines, a supervised machine learning model. A qualitative content analysis was conducted on a random sample of 3,000 tweets to understand themes in discussions of race and racism and inform interpretation of the quantitative trends. Results: The highest rate of Google searches for any of the three names was for George Floyd during the week of May 31 to June 6, the week after his murder. Short-term variability, spatial variability, and the vertical distribution of an intertidal macroalgal assemblage were examined on the coast of Barton Peninsula, Maxwell Bay, King George Island, Antarctica. Sampling was performed during the three austral summer seasons from November 2016 to January 2019. The sampling interval for short-term variability was 1–2 months. Sampling for spatial variability was performed at two sites 400 m apart. Eighteen algal species were identified, with 75% relative coverage of the predominant red Iridaea cordata and endemic brown Phaeurus antarcticus. Summer abundance can be described as a shift from I. cordata to P. antarcticus, and the change in color is intuitively presented using a contour plot for the first time. Short-term variation in the macroalgal assemblage showed 78.35% similarity between one month and 64.61% similarity between two months. The spatial variation analysis indicated 77.13% similarity between the assemblage at the two sites. If global warming continues, the algal population of this region is expected to expand. P. antarcticus, which is primarily found in the subtidal zone, is predicted to relocate southward or higher in the near future. Long-term monitoring of this research region, which is dominated by the two species, is warranted to determine the impact of global warming on the macroalgal assemblage.

This thesis constructs a history surrounding the organization and hanging of the 1910 International Exhibition of Pictorial Photography, which was arranged by Alfred Stieglitz and the Photo-Secession for the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (then the Albright Art Gallery). This history identifies those involved in the planning and execution of the exhibition and is presented as a timeline of events revealed largely through correspondence between Stieglitz and Cornelia Sage, Director of the Albright Art Gallery. This thesis also examines in detail the installation of the 594 selected works exhibited at the Buffalo institution. In addition, this thesis project outlines the procedure of developing a small exhibition to honor the centennial anniversary of the International Exhibition of Pictorial Photography. Presented to the curatorial staff at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, New York, the proposed exhibition is intended to hang during the 2010 calendar year.

As digital media replaces traditional chemical experimentation, the photograph as an object made from chemicals and light has been replaced by a technology that embodies only the image. Even traditional slide projections and the more current digital presentations do not accurately portray the photograph as an object, focusing instead on its surface image. This thesis combines production of actual photographic objects, along with technical descriptions, chemical recipes and formulas. The project, created to be a teaching collection and process sample guide uses Robert Hunt's early photographic descriptions from both A Popular Treatise on the Art of Photography (1841) and A Manual of Photography (1853). The actual collection of objects that is the product of this work is held at Ryerson University and George Eastman House. It is comprised of a clamshell box that houses photographic processes including The Chromatype, The Energiatype and The Fluorotype, along with a self-published book. The photographs and text are intended for use as a resource for photography students, teachers, historians and museums with an advanced knowledge of and interest in photography.

This paper investigates the changes of buildings to what extent the regulations related to plot ratio are implemented in the city of George Town, Penang, give impact on land use distribution. This study used a quantitative method by conducting field observations to identify building heights in the city of George Town, which was divided into two segments of the road. Then, GIS software was also used as one of the instruments to map the compliance analysis on study area in the city for the development control tool. The results show that quantitatively, the buildings along Jalan Dato Keramat that have been monopolised by residential activities acquire a higher building height and the maximum of plot ratio caps. There is only a small portion in Jalan Gurdwara that complies with the plot ratio limit. However, the characteristics of the area were determined by several parameters, such as building height, zoning land use activities, and building conformity. Thus, more detailed regulations regarding the changes in shape and plot ratio cap according to zoning activities on the exact location and activities are highly required.

On December 14, 1799, 3 prominent physicians-Craik, Brown, and Dick-gathered to examine America's first president, George Washington. He was complaining of severe throat symptoms and was being treated with bloodletting, blistering, and enemas. Dick advised performing an immediate tracheotomy to secure the airway. Both Craik and Brown were not keen on trying tracheotomy and overruled that proposal. Washington was not involved in making that decision. He most likely had acute epiglottitis that proved to be fatal at the end. If Dick had prevailed, a tracheotomy could have saved Washington's life. Human factors analysis of these events shows that his physicians were totally fixated on repeating futile treatments and could not comprehend the need for a radical alternative, like tracheotomy. That was aggravated by an impaired situational awareness and significant resistance to change. Leadership model was also based on hierarchy instead of competency, which might have also contributed to Washington's death.
